Phosphenes
New Story! FFN and AO3
Harry isn't one to keep secrets, unless he knows that the secret is worth keeping for a few days. And when it comes to surprising Ginny and Teddy, it's usually worth it. A Muggle AU Hinny fluffy one-shot.
My wonderful friend @thisismegz had a big celebration last month and on the one month anniversary of that event, I'm dropping this little gem of domestic AU Hinny bliss. Congratulations, darling! May happiness follow you all your life!
Phosphenes
Ginny gasped as Harry opened the door and pulled her against him, claiming her lips with his own.
"This is your fault." She sighed as she kissed along his jaw.
"I couldn't wait anymore." He pressed her against the door to close it. "I told you as much. However, I didn't think about the fact that you would still be leaving in the morning for two away games in a row. But now that you're home-"
"Ginny!"
Harry chuckled and pulled away to scoop Teddy up in his arms.
"Hi, Teddy!" Ginny promptly took Harry's godson from him. "How are you?"
"Good! I got up early and talked with Mummy and Daddy!"
"And are they finding lots of dinosaur bones for you?"
"Daddy says they aren't digging that deep but Uncle Harry says we'll go to the museum and I can dig up the ones there."
"Oh that does sound fun. Do I get to come too?"
"Yes!" Teddy kissed her cheek. "Uncle Harry takes us to the cafe with the yummy brownies when you come."
"Then I think I must come so you can have your brownie." Ginny kissed Teddy back.
"Uncle Sirius and Aunt Marlene might join us for that by the way." Harry tickled Teddy's side. "Marlene has a meeting at the museum this afternoon."
"Are we going today then?"
"I thought it would be a good way to celebrate after we tell him."
"You haven't told him?"
"Told me what?"
"You told your parents right? Because I called mine the next morning from the airport."
"I told my mum and dad but asked them to let me tell everyone else." Harry casually checked his phone as he leant against the wall.
"Tell me what?"
"Why on earth would you wait? Harry, it's been nearly two weeks!"
Teddy pulled her face into his little hands and pressed his forehead against hers. "Tell me what!"
Ginny laughed and kissed Teddy's nose. "Harry asked me to marry him Teddy, and I said yes."
Teddy cheered and threw his little arms around her neck. "Yes! Now you'll be my Aunt Ginny and you'll be here whenever I come to stay with Uncle Harry and we'll always get brownies after the museum!"
Ginny turned to Harry who had his phone pointing at her and Teddy. "Are you recording this?"
"That's why I waited to tell him." He smiled back at her. "A kid ought to have something to remember from when his godfather gave him a godmother."
"I don't think it works that way." Ginny wiped at the tears trying to fill her eyes.
"We'll make it work that way. Now, Teddy, should we take your new godmother to the museum?"
"Yes! I'll get my shoes." He shimmied until Ginny put him down and then went running for his room at Harry's until his parents returned from their dig.
Harry wrapped his arms around her and kissed her soundly. "I love you."
"I love you too." She melted as he kissed behind her ear. "Do Sirius and Marlene know? Or Remus and Tonks?"
Harry chuckled, "Yes, everyone knew but Ted."
"So all of this was to rile me up?"
"You're cute when you're miffed." He brought his lips back to hers. "Besides, you can't tell me that wasn't the best way to tell Teddy."
"I'm in for it aren't I?" Ginny laughed and wondered if they might be able to tire Teddy out enough to get him to take a nap this afternoon.
"Nah, only when we have big things to announce."
"Then heaven save me when we have our first kid."
Harry laughed and kissed her. "Don't worry, I'll behave myself when we reach that point."
"I'm ready!" Teddy came barreling into the entryway. "Let's go!"
"Just let me grab my keys." Harry kissed her once more before moving for his keys.
"Ginny?" Teddy took her hand.
"Yes, love?"
"Can I call you Aunt Ginny or do I have to wait until you and Uncle Harry are married?"
Ginny swallowed the little lump of emotion that climbed up her throat. "You can call me Aunt Ginny now."
Teddy wrapped his arms around her legs and held on tight. "I love you, Aunt Ginny!"
Harry smiled at her from the corridor and Ginny laughed as a single tear escaped down her cheek. "I love you too, Teddy."

This was a #STEMARegional submission by @stangeranfanficion that I selected back then to include as an Ultra Beast in my region.
Phosphenes, or colloquially "seeing stars", is the phenomena of the the retina being activated even if there is no light. This may occur due to pressure on the eyes or rubbing them or some external causes such as diseases, electricty/magnetism, chemicals, and even long exposures to no light (also called prisoner's cinema).
Phosces (Dark/Fairy): It is hard to directly look at them because their bodies constantly fade in and out of the darkness. They spiral around whoever gets knocked out; some say they are caring for the injured and other say they are taunting.

Ever since I was at least 5 years old I can remember seeing thousands of tiny, multicoloured dots flying around my vision like TV static. They are much more noticable in the dark and when I blink or close my eyes.
There's aso always been a ring of more prominent redish dots in the centre of my vision that moved with my eyes.
When I was little I thought I was seeing molecules in the air after learning about them on an episode of Magic School Bus.
***
Turns out there is actually a name for this phenomenon:
CEV - Closed Eye Visualisations
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination
Althout apparently that is only supposed to be seen when you're concentration and dissapear when you're not but mine is just alwasy there so it could also be
VSS - Visual Snow Syndrome
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow_syndrome
The little dots are called phosphenes and theres been some really interesting research done on them and the different causes for them http://www.oubliette.org.uk/Three.html
***
Whatever it is, its harmless and we don't fully know why some people have it more than others but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I actually found a quora thread with a bunch of people talking about there experiences with it.
https://www.quora.com/What-causes-us-to-see-tiny-coloured-dots-in-darkness-For-example-if-you-are-in-a-dark-room-you-don%E2%80%99t-just-see-pitch-black-but-thousands-of-tiny-dots
So yeah. The more you know.

I don't care if it's phosphenes or spiritual visions, I see amazing gradients and shapes when I close my eyes, meditate, swim, and/or do yoga. I'm going to try to recreate them in my art.

Came across this post on tumblr and reblogged it.
Tumblr media
I scrolled through the comments and someone said that this “grid” is a phosphene, which is “a ring or spot of light produced by pressure on the eyeball or direct stimulation of the visual system other than by light”. I literally experienced this grid pattern when I injured my hand on a beach once. I was holding a very heavy rock that had a fossil in it. I was intending on cracking it open but never got the chance. The tide was coming in and my dad called out to me that I needed to get back to the carpark. The rocky beach was wet and I slipped sideways slowly, so I had to catch myself with the back of my left hand and the heavy rock pressed the top of my hand against another rock. What I think happened is that I pinched the nerve between my middle and ring finger knuckles. Was this ulnar nerve entrapment? I don’t know. I kept flexing my hand because it felt funny, almost sore but not. When my dad met me and we kept walking up the beach I felt lightheaded and he had to hold me up so I didn’t fall over. I felt nauseous and my vision went weird. Things sort of went totally white and then I saw row and rows of orange dots - a grid.
I looked it up tonight and found this.
Tumblr media
The cortex examples in D and E are roughly what I saw, like a dot grid notebook. Not sure how this chart can help me understand what I saw, but I suppose it tells me that my cortex was activated or disrupted when the nerve in my hand was impacted. If you’re reading this and have any additional information, can make corrections, and/or can help me understand what happened to me, please reblog or comment on this post.

Flying on the waves of Goddess
Since the beginnings of human culture, the whirls, spirals, waves & swirls patterns have been painted & carved on rocks, stones & walls of caves in what is called the Stone Age.
Perhaps in a Matriarchal milieu, matriarchy meaning, society organised by practices, symbols & values related to motherhood, birth & community caring, activities that could be seen as more ‘feminine’.
Masculine & feminine are two regulatory principles within consciousness, for a moment we can set aside implications for sex & gender.
Matriarchy is fundamentally non-patriarchy.
We can’t therefore look at the cave & stone spirals & swirls, through only the eyes of patriarchal academia.
Who sees the swirling-wave patterns as functional art & culture or postulates them to be the externalisation of rising content within the nervous system during meditative, shamanic, trance, ecstatic or peak states.
The content of altered states of consciousness. Where, the nervous system generates primary forms/symbols as universal spiritual content, suggesting a timeless “protoshamanic” substratum & “dream-time” as the source for spiritual & cultural contents.
The organic realm itself is the substratum generating the dream scapes of spirit— in a single mechanism; as the shamans & witches have told us for a long time, they commune with the forces of Nature (animism), perhaps ingesting sacred plants, through sensuality, through dance & drum of some sort.
So here we are,
as we transit (fly, drift, float, fall etc.)
between stages & states of consciousness, there are concomitant changes within our biology & organic chemistry,
that also coincides with energetic changes.
And the energetic changes are visually observable ‘within’; as the practitioner witnesses the rising of light patterns & forms within his consciousness, called phosphenes, as consciousness changes states from waking, dreaming, trance, samadhi etc.
This then became the first art, language & expressions of consciousness, telling its own story.
