The tender, unearthly magic of the Spring has crept into my heart. I hear the song of birds, I smell new odors, see new colorings, and the softness of the air melts me. And I feel. Oh, God, how deeply I feel, and grieve and rejoice. More than ever in my life before, more than all I felt during childhood, and that was a great deal, more than all I felt during girlhood, which I thought nothing could surpass; I stand on the threshold of the world itself, and a new life has taken hold of me.
Anaïs Nin, The Early Diary of Anaïs Nin, 1920-23

TW: spoiler alert
I'll admit something that will make my followers hate me, but to be completely honest... I'm not the biggest fan of dogs. I don't know why, I used to like them, then I became scared of them, then I had a very bad experience with mine, but I'm not sure that really counts, though it was borderline traumatic.
That being said. That scene absolutely shocked me. I could feel my eyes filling up with tears.

Sharing this in case someone among my followers is interested. I would love to - coincidentally I even had a dream about it last night! I was in somebody's car listening to Rammstein (not exactly my favourite German-speaking band, but still), finally on my way to getting a certificate! - but I'm already dedicating most of my energy to learning French for now. I do some exercises from time to time just to make sure I don't forget that little I already know, but I can't focus as much as I would like to. I'll seriously think about it anyway.
Is there someone out there who is curious about learning German and wants to be a lab rat in my dream of investigating the question
how fast can I help a person go from zero to comfortable in German?
Tumblr media
I don't have huge amounts of time myself but beyond texting, (video) calling (Skype/Discord/Whatever) would be an option when there's time
And I would of course offer up myself as a lab rat to learn your language too if you're interested in teaching it :>
About me: 21, language student, like to read, gay, have a cute dog, always trying to be less online but failing, idk what else to sayyyyyy but I'm very nice!
No money involved! I'll get you all the resources to study, meaning you wouldn't have to buy a textbook or smth
_____
plz spread this even if it doesn't apply to you I just want to be language obsessed with someone ': ]

Finally watching The Zone of Interest. It's only the beginning and I'm already overwhelmed. [Please don't reblog, I'm already having a hard time.]
I'm also somewhat angry because I don't think people like me, people like us, are the... intended audience for this kind of film. And the intended audience will never watch or care. Instead we watch and we care, we watch because we care, and we already understand very well, we know the pain of the protagonists, we know their history and (if you're like me, which is very likely, you've been sad and angry and felt impotent about it since you've heard about it in primary school - I remember reading so many books about the H*locaust, waiting for that good ending). I don't know how to explain it without sounding selfish. Another example that comes to mind is Roots or any other production about African slavery, but thinking about it, it's a bit different because people empathize much, much less with PoC the more dark-skinned they are. But I'm digressing.
I can't go on writing. I'm feeling light-headed. I'm very stressed right now and I should be doing something else rather than watching things that make it harder to cope with reality, but... well, I wish I could but I really have nothing. I'm waiting for tonight so I can watch Skinamarink, I finally found it online.
P.S.: Unserious/serious question - where did they find that big of a river for the shooting in the 2020s? (written with a painful weight in my chest)

Oh, and before anybody insinuates anything:
I'm not saying this randomly because I'm the nth shallow person who idealizes Japan, at all. It's certainly a beautiful country with an impeccable (as far as I know) aesthetic, but I am well aware of its ugly side too (oh, and "ugly" it's quite the euphemism) so don't come at me. I'm just a big estimator of their poetry and literature, even more since I read about its origins - and I'll stop here, you really don't want to get me started, I think you finally got the gist of it.
Craving specific Japanese novels, condemned to read whatever random thing from random Western authors I have in my library. I'd give anything to read "The Memory Police" right now, just to mention one. I'm so sad.

I love Matilda because it's a story about a child who sees injustice around her and gets mad about it and questions why things aren't fair, and instead of the ending being that she learns how the world works and that life isn't fair, she catapults one of the adults who abused her out of a building with her mind
