i don't understand why t100 s5 is so unpopular in fandom because imo it was easily the best written season of the entire series??? i mean
everyone's six year glowup was fantastic. all the characters looked really attractive. clarke, kabby (their whole aging gray hair thing was hot even if they became totally unbearable hypocrites), octavia, diyoza and mccreary, spacekru... also BELLAMY'S BEARD???? hello that was awesome he truly leaned into his Cheer Dad personality
becho was one of the sweetest and healthiest relationships. lack of flashback/spacekru centric ep aside (my only complaint about s5 tbh), they got through their past differences together, in an environment where they weren't in any significant danger or participated in opposite sides of a war (which lbr was the only reason their dynamic was "unhealthy" in the first place), and they were able to prioritize their mental health and become real friends who shared things about themselves
bloodreina and diyoza were the best villains ever??? their ice cold bad bitches personalities were so fascinating to watch onscreen. i get that octavia is unpopular because of her treatment of bell in s5 but as a character she totally POPPED (also wonkru's whole blood cult thing and eligius being full of sociopathic war criminals was great entertainment material, and part of what made my s5 watching experience so enjoyable)
spacekru slowly becoming fond of each other and transitioning into a found family over their six years together offscreen was amazing. their affection and loyalty towards each other was so heartwarming, they never cared about the war, or eligius vs octavia, only being reunited and spending time in each other's company. plus the group's banter/chemistry, the memori breakup + resulting angst/raven & emori friendship, bellamy being murphy's Big Brother/bullying murphy into recognizing his self worth/respecting and valuing murphy's input to the discussion (just murphamy's developed friendship in general), marper being involved in the memori breakup because they care about their friends' happiness, the echo/monty hug and echo/murphy friendship, emori comforting echo, bellamy refusing to leave raven behind, were also total highlights of the season
k*bby betraying octavia immediately when given the chance and leaving her to deal with the consequences of the cannibalistic blood cult, abby torturing raven (a girl she dared to call "daughter) for the sake of an addiction she couldn't control....... they finally revealed their true colors and it was glorious (and kinda sad because i could not stand them as characters anymore, although at least they remained consistent in their hypocrisy)
cl*rke torturing her own friends to "protect" the daughter she placed a shock collar on (and being called out by the narrative for it/not being handed blanket forgiveness) was absolutely amazing
mccreary and abby/diyoza (even kane) had ridiculous amounts of sexual tension, it was absurdly hot
i love vincent, that cannibalist freak. he's like a feral rabid pet and it was adorable (also he put kane's life in danger which was hilarious, in the sense that it served as abby's punishment)
the aesthetic appeal of wonkru and their hunger games style feeding ritual, octavia's tyranny, it was positively fucked up :D i also loved echo's arc as a "spy," subverting her inital role in the series (something that brought her so much vitriol from fandom) and using it for a positive purpose
it was horrifying and gruesome and violent which automatically gives it five stars in my book 😌

A/n: 18+ if you don't like the warnings please don't read
Summary: Y/n is a Doctor, she's has to choose between saving McCreary's life and letting him die. Being under Diyoza's control and being in McCreary's constant line of site, she has been fighting the tension and is trying to find ways around his treatment, just as Diyoza ordered.

"Uncle Kane." Y/n whispered. "Abby is in no position to operate on anybody, She's high as a kite and all she wants is more pills!"
Marcus crossed his arms over his chest, the only real doctor around was Abby. Y/n was trained in the medical field, but she's never operated on anyone.
"I can do it." She said. "I know I can, I'm more capable than Abby!"
Suddenly the door opened and three men walked in, two of them grabbed Kane and started pulling him towards the door.
"Where are you taking him?" She asked.
"That's none of your concern." The taller man replied.
"If anything happens to him-"
"You're a doctor? Correct?"
"That's right."
The man leaned against her desk and looked down at the boards, they had the names of who was infected. She fallowed his gaze, this man was sick.
"Which one is yours?" She asked.
He pulled the third one out and handed it to her, she flinched when his fingertips touched hers.
"Paxton McCreary? So you're the man everyone seems to be afraid of?"
He chuckled and looked out the window.
"Are you afraid?" He asked.
Y/n was quite for a second, she scanned him. He was a tall guy, he could over power her, he had a muscular build and....no shit, he had a gun.
"No." She lied.
"You wouldn't be very good at poker."
Y/n smiled and looked down at the board in her hands, she read his symptoms and looked up at him as he stood straight, towering over her.
"Can you cure me?" He asked.
"I believe so, I don't have as much experience as Abby. But I will most certainly try."
Y/n watched as he unzipped his coverall's, bringing it down to his waist. He pulled his white tank up over his head and sat on the operating table.
Y/n swallowed when she saw the tattoos that littered his back, he cracked his neck and looked over at her.
"Let's begin."

"I don't want you to save McCreary until all my people are cured first." Diyoza said.
"You can't give me a patient, and tell me not to cure him! He's sick for fuck sake! He doesn't have a lot of time!"
"Good. That's what I'm hoping for."
Y/n shook her head and walked away, it had been almost a month since she gave Paxton his checkup. She's spent a lot of time with him since, they've talked about each other, she's told him shit she hasn't even told her uncle.
The feeling Y/n got when she was around him made her feel alive, but scared at the same time. Just yesterday she dropped her gun because her hand got sliced, he turned to her and gently gripped her hand. She hissed as he examined her palm, McCreary had cleaned it and bandaged it.
She never expected that he would be kind to her, but now he smiles and jokes with her, Paxton pushed her out of the way when one of Octavia's men shot at her.
"Y/n!" He yelled. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, they came out of nowhere."
"We gotta get you somewhere safe."
Paxton picked her up and brought her into a nearby cave, he checked her out, making sure she wasn't injured.
His hand came up to caress her neck, McCreary moved her hair away when he saw the scars across the side of her neck.
"How did this happen?" He asked.
"it's a long story."
"We have nothing but time."
"Well, it starts off like this. I was alone on a cargo ship, it had just left an asteroid. I thought I was alone until I got to the bridge, the rest of the ship was empty, I even shouted and no one came. So I get to the bridge and I see this robot thing, it had razors for hands and two extra arms coming off the back of it. I approached it slowly, dumbass move I know."
McCreary smiled, attempting to light a fire.
"So, anyway. This thing saw me and came towards me at an alarming speed. So I ran, this thing was fast! Like police are after you and you're on foot kinda fast. I get cornered at the airlock and it attacks me, it sliced my neck and nearly killed me. Luckily I was able to fight it off and smash it before I got totally shredded."
"So that's how you got those? Huh?"
"Yep, that's the story of how I got these ugly scars."
Paxton sat down beside Y/n and put his arm around her.
"They're beautiful."
His response shocked her, they locked eyes, tilting his head, his gaze fell to her lips.
"Please." She whispered.
Paxton obliged, connecting his with hers. He ran his fingers through her hair and made a fist, pulling her head back.
Paxton crashed his lips to hers and grazed her bottom lip with his tongue, she slightly opened her mouth so he could invade.
The kiss was all teeth and tongues, when they finally pulled away to take a breath, he rested their foreheads together.
"Y/n." He whispered.
"Hmm?"
"You're so fuckin beautiful."

listen i personally disagree with female children being used as a tool for bad men's redemption arcs but i feel like if the writers had executed it correctly (doubtful tbh) then mccreary being in hope's life would be a very fun thing lmao
idk mccreary definitely cared about his and diyoza's kid (in like, his own very twisted and violent way) and had some kind of attachment and passion for the unborn child... and he didn't even see it as some kind of opportunity for redemption or a way to pursue a morally righteous path which means he didn't intend on changing into a Better Man and being shoehorned into Asshole White Guy Stops Being An Asshole Because He Has A Daughter trope, he just cared for his daughter as like. this person whom he would father and is responsible for raising

I was thinking about something... Am I the only one who thought while watching 7x08 of The 100, the backdoor pilot Anaconda "Did Jason Rothenberg write Bill Cadogan as a more charismatic and more powerful self-insert?" Maybe subconsciously? Maybe that was one of the reasons why that episode was well-written, he was writing about something he knows a lot about. I noticed the similarities of the Cadogan family dynamics to the Lightbourne family dynamic from a season before (such as both men being called out for being megalomaniacs/narcissists).
It also strikes me that all the main villains of the last 2 seasons have been megalomaniac privileged white men - Bill Cadogan, Sheidheda, Russell Lightbourne. And even in the other season - we can add the two Wallaces (and the Wallace family dynasty was referenced in Anaconda, too, with the mention of President Wallace’s administration). In season 5 the most villainy villain was McCreary, as a sociopathic manchild who destroyed the Earth because he couldn't have it all for himself. In the entire show, the human Big Bads of all seasons have been entitled white guys. (The other Big Bads were a computer program and a nuclear disaster, and season 1 didn’t have an overall main villain but many minor ones.)
I normally wouldn’t find anything strange about that - it’s an obvious and safe choice for a villain - but the specific character traits of the megalomaniac, egotistical, power-obsessed and entitled white men of these last couple of seasons and especially season 7 and Cadogan, have really made me think that there may be something subconscious going on there on Rothenberg’s part (probably not intentionally, as that would entail way too much self-awareness).
And there’s also another pattern I’ve noticed this season in particular (though it did not start this season, but now it’s really been maximized). When I wrote my review of 7x12, I was still giving the show the benefit of the doubt and trying to find the positives as well as the negatives, but there was something that had been making me increasingly uncomfortable throughout the season, and I couldn’t help mention that the show finished the last season with the Brainwashed into a Cult Jordan storyline, which was then dropped and ignored in season 7, but only to be replaced by the Indoctrinated into a Cult storyline for another man of color, this time the show’s second protagonist/male lead.
There is pattern of men of color constantly being portrayed as followers, manipulated and/or brainwashed, usually by white male villains. Even those MOC who still have a mind of their own and aren’t background characters (I think that’s only Gabriel at this point) are not leaders. (Gabriel may do his own thing, but he’s not in charge and agreed to be a Disciple.)
Jordan was brainwashed last season by an annoying Devout guy, a minor character called Trey . That didn’t end up having consequences except for Jordan spouting pro-Prime propaganda and getting hated by the fandom, and was retconed/ignored/dropped in season 7, except for Jordan continuing to be manipulated by the Devout (Trey and Alyssa) and Sheidheda (as Russell).
But after dropping that storyline, the show had Bellamy - who was a leader and a damn good one - indoctrinated into a cult and a follower of Cadogan. Then murdered. I really don’t want to talk anymore about that horrible plot and death scene. I was deeply uncomfortable with the plot to begin with, but was hoping that the show would do something that makes sense and is respectful to Bellamy’s character. My ideal version was that his friends and particularly Clarke get through to him and he realizes that individual love is not bad, but that his visions and beliefs weren’t entirely wrong, and that he turns his back on Cadogan and his interpretations of it. We know how that worked out.
Nelson was a leader, but was manipulated and used by Sheidheda in a way that didn't even make sense, preying on Nelson’s emotions and impulsiveness. Later murdered.
Sheidheda’s main follower was Knight of Sangedakru. There were some minor hints he may have been rethinking his loyalty and fans speculated he may turn, but nope.
Reese Cadogan was the child loyal and subservient to Bill, desperate for his father’s approval. And Bill thinks he may have been killed by his sister (because he can't imagine another reason he didn't bring him the Flame - in his mind, he couldn't have possibly broken away from his influence).
Miller and Jackson are background characters, in spite of having been on the show since season 1. Miller's most important arc in the last few seasons was having been a loyal follower or Blodreina. Jackson spent most of his time in the previous 6 seasons as Abby’s sidekick.
Even if we go back to previous seasons... Not to go over the minor characters like Shumway (season 1 minor villain- a follower of Diana Sidney, manipulated and murdered by her). But even Jaha, who was a strong leader, love him or hate him, was a brainwashed follower of ALIE for a full season.
Monty and Lincoln were characters of integrity, but were never put in charge. Lincoln was also a brainwashed slave/monster for half a season - but at least he got to get a revenge on his brainwasher Cage Wallace. Then he got murdered the next season.
I’d have thought Bellamy was an exception once the show seemed to have stopped trying to impose the idea he was a “follower” and let him be a really good leader in the later seasons.... And then season 7 happened. (I used to argue the line about him being a “follower” rather than a leader was just something a villain used to taunt him and that was not meant to be gospel truth, but guess what, the latest season has decided to confirm that ALIE!Raven’s taunting was indeed the truth, including that about Clarke being poison to everyone close to her and bringing them all death...)
The only exception was Pike, and he was made to be more hated than any of the white villains who were much worse in terms of motivations, actions and having a sympathetic qualities/backstory to explain their actions.
