Pine furniture

For those of you who don’t know, pine is a very easy wood to work with so it would most definitely be one of the district 7 workers’ favorites. However, it’s also one of the most common woods out there, meaning it’s cheap. Very cheap. And the richer people get, the more they care about the label and price. So Treech is like “nu uh” and rips off the headset to properly look Dr Gaul in the eye while explaining to her all the ways in which this is not a proper simulation of the real thing. She tries to argue (because being told off by a district kid has got to be a big blow to her ego) only to be shushed and for Treech to go on a full on rant. Lamina joins in too. They reveal some of the realities of the horror that is life in the districts and their little show of having big opinions on (to the capitol) minor things shows their humanity. This dominoes to a fix-it, but what I’m more focused on is stuff like this:

“the furniture in a big ass caste worth more than my entire district was made of pine? PINE?! WHAT?!?!” He screeches, voice cracking with slowly growing hysteria.

“No!” Lamina exclaims. “I fucking wish! Do you know how much easier my life would be if filthy rich assholes cared even a little less about wasting money?!”

One of the mentors: “What’s the issue? It’s just wood…”

I guess I should have expected a character like him, that's both deeply poetic in his speech and courtly in his upbringing, would come to idealize a chivalric romance a bit, and translate his feelings on/of love to an element of courting that's as ritualistic and processional as ballroom dancing, but sometimes just realizing the obvious can really knock you off your feet for a second

like. just like how there is almost a blueprint to a perfect storybook romance in both stories and -consequently- in his head (I think romance might even be one of the literary genres with the highest number of unwritten rules that need to be fulfilled for a work to count as a romance), there is also a fairly strict method to a court dance. There is a series of well-known and practiced steps that was laid out in advance, and one is to perform them in succession, and in sync with one's partner. If one of the parties doesn't know or doesn't want to follow the rules/steps, it gets... tangled, messy, and you both stumble. The dance and the relationship both fall apart. The happy ending of a tale is not reached without all the steps in-between being followed, and he so dearly wants his fairytale ending, his happy, fulfilled love, I just---

it's such a perfect metaphor, and what makes it even more perfect is that Wyll is ostensibly aware of it, and he chose it, purposefully, and i don't want to watch the Act 3 commitment scene because I've not yet done it myself and don't want to spoil it, but I would be so surprised if he a.) made no mention of storybook romances, or b.) didn't just straight up propose y'know

The Sanders Sides Instagram Archive (as I'm now calling it) is about 95% complete, with a few things needing to be fixed.

I'm debating on posting it now and fixing it later, though, since it's already this much complete and it took a week or so to actually find, compile, and cite all the images and I'm excited to show it off.

This is very very true. I want there to be more papyrus centric aus that dives deeper into his character, his beliefs, his own personal struggles that I want to explore more of and shine a light onto. Truth be told, I’ve been very hard on myself with this au but for a good reason! There’s so much angst in undertale and that it kind of loses its touch with the characters themselves! Not to bad mouth any but, undertale is meant for you to choice the ‘right’ thing to do. You go through this incredible story with amazing and wonderful characters that you grown an attachment to, a key to all this is your sympathy towards these fictional characters. Oh man I could go on and on of how your choices, your own sympathy and empathy towards these character can effect your choices, this world that is terrifyingly shown that you have control of your choices. You are the one who’s done this. You can literally make yourself out to be the hero, the savior of this story, or become the villain.

And that’s what I really want to explore in the Existential Crisis AU. Of course I will be painfully honest with myself, it’s not a new concept or a new idea. It’s something everyone has thought of, made headcanons and theories of etc. (you being the villain, how your choices effect everything and everyone, characters remembering resets which mainly sans does in aus and theories) just a lot of things. But I still wanna give my own personal touch to it. Because honestly, I truly love papyrus, I love his character and I want to try my hardest to keep him in character as possible, especially in the beginning of the au and try to slowly write his character into one that starts to show a more emotional and vulnerable side of him.

To add onto her human parents, how do you think they would feel if they ever received their memories back and saw Sophie’s life. They would see the child they raised for more than a decade living with a different set of parents, even though she knew they were alive and living. Next, they would hear about the Black Swan and how she was repeatedly put in danger by them. They would not be happy to hear about that. Then, they would have contend with the Elvin world and everything that was happening. Last, they would have to deal with realizing how everything they had was taken away. For the wipe to work, they would need to wipe everyone who ever knew their family. Her parents would have lost their parents, extended family, and friends. They would remember them, but they would not remember them, which is horrific.

Well you just went and answered your own question! That's an excellent summary of all the horrifying realities they'd have to face and their consequences. I must admit we know very little of them, but from what we do know, all I can imagine is horror and a determined refusal to go along with what anyone tries to say to them.

They'd see all this and want their daughter back. They'd see how she was taken from them and exposed to all these horrible things and people, put in so much danger the past 2 1/2 years, and they'd not trust a word said to them. I could see them potentially meeting more issue with it all if they actually talk to Sophie herself, because they'd be faced with the reality that there are things and people she cares about there. And that she's not the daughter they remember.

Her human parents don't know Sophie anymore, that would be another realization. When their memories of her end, she was a quiet, shy overachiever who always tried to avoid attention, plagued by headaches. Meeting her again, now she's a powerful, confident, unapologetic leader who stands up and pushes back. She holds her own, makes her opinions known, and isn't afraid to rebel. Her parents have no idea how to parent that, wouldn't recognize her like this. It would throw them for a loop, painful to both her parents and Sophie herself how disconnected they are.

There's potential that Sophie could convince them somewhat of how much she cares about the elven world, but that wouldn't stop them from wanting her back under their roof, their supervision, back to a "normal" life. The heartbreaking conflict there is that...the "normal" life they'd try to give her wouldn't be normal. Sophie is abnormal in every situation, and it would just be another ruse unless concessions were made on both sides--unlikely to happen.

William and Emma truly get screwed over in every variation, it seems. Their desire for a family taken advantage of, losing their daughter, their lives being replaced, losing their memories multiple times. And even if they became fully conscious, there's no easy solution without sacrifices on either side, which is a whole thing on its own.

I've gotten slightly distracted from the original question, which is how they'd feel I think they'd see all of this and have no clue how to process the anger and helplessness and the grief over it all, only able to focus on the fact that they want their daughter back. But given how little we know and how speculative and theoretical these circumstances are, I may very well be wrong. Who knows!
