Major Shōgun Ep. 9 spoilers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yabushige truly gives meaning to the term 'rat bastard'. Toranaga factored his inevitable betrayal into his plans, and Yabushige STILL somehow managed to spring a surprise betrayal. If it wasn't so horrible, it would be impressive how two-faced the man manages to be.
So, about Mariko .... (I'm actually glad I randomly got spoiled the day before seeing this episode and was prepared otherwise I would not have survived what happened to her.)
My take ... Mariko's death was 'pointless' in the same way Nagakado's death was pointless. Nagakado died a senseless death that failed to accomplish anything, but then Toranaga gave his son's death meaning and honour by thanking Nagakado for dying to earn him some time. Mariko blocking the door with her own body served nothing in the sense that it wouldn't prevent Ishido's men from getting in nor did it change the fate of anyone else in that room. But by choosing to sacrifice herself like that and die at the hands of Ishido's agents, Mariko derailed Ishido's plan to take her captive and ensured she'd become a martyr to Toranaga's cause. Mariko not only fulfilled Toranaga's plan, she exceeded it.
Mariko's mission was to get the hostages freed or die trying and in so doing force Ishido to dishonour himself by openly revealing his hand instead of keeping up the facade that he's not keeping anyone against their will. Mariko did both: got the hostages freed and died a martyr to the cause. (Yes, Ishido may choose to turn around and keep the hostages anyway instead of releasing them as agreed, but in doing so he'll only dishonour himself further and lose more support.)
When Toranaga gets to Osaka, he'll have the moral highground and the support of the other samurai families who didn't want Mariko to die like that and who now see Ishido for what he really is. (Also, when the time comes, I think the Christian Regents will now be prepared to turn against Ishido.)
And Mariko got what she'd wanted all along: dying with honour in response to what happened to her family. Her death was meaningful. She served her duty like her father told her to. And she got to spend her last night being at peace and experiencing something like happiness with John.
Buntaro dishonoured her for so many years by keeping her alive for selfish reasons and when he finally offered her the release of death, it was also for selfish reasons. Buntaro was only willing to allow her to finally die because HE wanted to die then and wouldn't be affected by her death since he'd be gone too. Buntaro ordered Mariko to stay alive. John asked Mariko to stay alive many times, and when she ultimately wouldn't change her mind, he not only accepted and respected her decision, he honoured it by offering to second her. Mariko died knowing John finally understood. He finally got it.
Mariko died, and now she is finally free.
Tumblr media
EDIT to add:
She died calling herself Akechi Mariko instead of Toda Mariko. She disavowed her husband and her unwanted marriage with her last words. She was truly freeing herself!!!

As much as I'd like Shōgun to return to the dynamic pacing that characterized the first part of the show (have we really spent the last four episodes in Ajiro?), slowing the action down has allowed for some fascinating explorations of character and theme.
One that featured heavily in this week's episode (as well as in the previous one) is the idea of myth-making and story.
Toranaga, of course, is the center of one such myth. The “boy warlord,” he won his first battle at age twelve and then served as second to his defeated enemy, taking off his head with one blow. This is the story that Saeki Nobutatsu tells at dinner, a tale that delights his young, impressionable nephew. Nagakato, who wants to prove himself to his father, takes such story as truth and wants to emulate him by riding off to battle, where he will likely be killed, but as a glorious end that will be told and retold. (“Will we die with blood on our swords?” he asks, which is the only honorable way to die.)
Lady Ochiba is surrounded by her own legends. Whereas Toranaga's exploits are the stuff of dinner party entertainment, she literally watches her own life be made into drama. The play performed at the Noh theater depicts her courtship by the Taikō, a courteous affair where her character does not speak, an frozen mask covering any expression she might make. (“Dear Lady Ochiba,” the fictionalized Taikō tells her, “if we have a son, prestige will spread in every direction...”)
(Mariko is also haunted by a story, that of her father's actions against Kuroda. But unlike Toranaga and Ochiba, she has no desire to disillusion herself. In her mind, her father died a hero, the man he killed a tyrant, and for fourteen years she has suffered by not being able to fulfill her duty to him by joining him in death.)
But what Shōgun is also trying to tell us is that life is nothing like the myth. A glorious death, the honor of one's family, the prestige of bearing the Taikō's only son, these require far more of us that we can ever imagine, pain and horror laced through every act.
The true story is one we never want to tell. It is being drugged and assaulted on a nightly basis by your consort and his wife, all in the hopes that you will give them a child. It is hacking at the bloody neck of your defeated enemy, until the ninth blow finally severs his head. It is attempting to kill your uncle in the darkened garden of a tea house, only to slip on a wet stone and dash your brains against the rocks, not a single drop of blood on your sword.

And thy mercy shall follow me
Tumblr media
2. He woke in an hour, crying out, fearful, the color leached from his sun-bronzed face.
“Mary, Mary! Christ, the babe’s screaming, quick, lass—”
He spoke in his native tongue, far more guttural than Portuguese, but Mariko could make out the name he’d spoken. He must be calling for his wife, as the priests said the heretics did not honor our Blessed Virgin. In any case, he was frantic, trying to sit up, trembling with fever, with weakness, his lips beginning to become chapped.
“Anjin-san, you are safe. I am here, Mariko-sama,” she said as calmly and slowly as she would speak to an elder with eyes milky with age. She reached out a hand to touch his wrist and gauge how high his temperature had climbed but he jerked and flailed, hitting her away with enough force he would have bloodied her nose if she’d leaned in closer.
“Ai!” she exclaimed before she could stop herself.
In the next moment, Sugi started to rise, called out “Lady Toda—” and Anjin’s eyes lit with awareness. They were the color of the night sky as dawn broke and recognition was overcome with shame in an instant.
“I beg your pardon, most sincerely,” he said, his voice like a frog’s croak, too rough to go on.
“You needn’t,” Mariko said. “You’re very ill. You weren’t even awake. You must drink some water and a little of the tea the physician left for you.”
“It tastes of the grave,” he muttered.
“It will help,” she said, though she was unsure if it was the truth. He needed it to be, so she gave it to him. He tried to lift his head and she saw the effort it cost, an effort he couldn’t sustain.
“I’ll manage the cup. You swallow,” she said.
“You shouldn’t,” he began, then coughed, a harsh, wretched sound, his shoulders hunching up with the force of it. Mariko laid a hand on his chest lightly, as if it might soothe him. Anjin looked at her, panting as he caught his breath. “I’ll try not to make a mess.”
She put the cup to his lips and moved the hand that had been on his chest to the back of his head, helping to bring him forward enough to drink. His hair was softer than she’d thought, the curls tangled and matted.
“Swallow, Anjin,” she said.
He got most of the tea down, only sputtering at the end. She used the sleeve of her robe to wipe his chin, forgetting the cloth that had been left with the medicines. It was a gesture she would have used with her son or her sisters. Not with Buntaro.
“Thank you, Mariko-sama,” he murmured, spent. His eyes fluttered closed. There was something terribly young about his face as he drifted off to sleep, something old in the hollows of his cheeks. She felt the memory of his skin against her palm, the silkiness of the hair at the nape of his neck.
He still burned.

"We (women) own our wealth and property, our bodies and our spirits. Here, the wife looks after everything (finance and administration). This leaves him (husband) free to do his duty to his lord (military and politics). We have no word for 'love'. Duty, loyalty, honor, respect, desire, those words and thoughts are what we have, all that we need."

In an episode filled with political machinations, Toranaga looked to outmaneuver Ishido and Ochiba no Kata at every turn. I would run through a wall for Toranaga-sama. Shōgun is the best.
I’m not even kidding a little bit. I’m getting ready for it now. I will run through that wall.
Hiroyuki Sanada is an absolute gift to our television screens. The man lends his gravitas to everyone with which he shares a scene and makes everyone better. We’re truly blessed.
Tensions are rising throughout Japan in this episode. In Osaka, Ishido and Lady Ochiba no Kata are scheming ways to quickly:
Find a person to be the new Regent
Vote that person to officially be a Regent
Vote to impeach Toranaga
Obviously, there are some brutally murdered dead bodies bumps in the road, and things didn’t go exactly to plan. Then, Toranaga gets word of their murder of Sugiyama and declares that they will now strike with the battle plan “Crimson Sky” which I hope is as dope as it sounds.
Elsewhere, Toranaga reveals the truth to Mariko about why her father had her marry Buntaro was to protect her and so she could help finish his mission of protecting Japan.
The scene between Mariko, Fuji, Blackthorne, and Kiku was fantastic. The side eye and tiny smile that Fuji gave when Kiku said that Mariko and Blackthorne are together a lot was hilarious.
Look, I’ve made it no secret that I love this show. It’s another week with another great episode. I hope this show wins all of the awards.

Send me ✔ and I will bold my preferences for your muse! // @icybreaths
My muse(s): Mariko 'Mari' Hagihara
Do I know your muse(s):  yes | no | a little | tell me about your muse
This is the part where I'm shameless and admit I love reading your headcanons and finding out more about Jewel because I am weak and think she is the bee's knees. I do love it when people come into my IMs and scream about muses with me though so if you ever wanna!
Setting: our verse | my verse | your verse | modern | alternate universe | other
Bleach verse works best for them both I think as that's Jewel's main verse and one of Mari's like 87 AUs.
Pre-established relationships? yes | no | depends on the relationship
Possible relationships: friends | classmate | co-worker | roommate | family, real or adopted | dating or blind date | married | friends with benefits | unrequited love | lending a hand | teacher - student | rivals | allies | partner-in-crime | enemies | protecter - guarded | business partners | spy - infiltrated | manipulator - manipulated | star-crossed | first meeting | other
I just remember your post saying Jewel's been a Shinigami for a good few hundred years and Mari's relatively new to the role, having done it for about sixty or so years, so I can see her looking up to Jewel in her own way. They both have a zanpakuto that people probably don't initially respect (albeit for different reasons, but I can see Mari having an admiration for Jewel that she doesn't say out loud but is kind of obvious to anyone who knows her. She's just a cool lady.
I’m in the mood for: fluff | angst | horror | romance | humor | crime | hurt / comfort | action | supernatural | slice of life | crack | dark threads | light threads | any genre | multi-para | shorter para | one-line | any length | plotted threads | unplotted threads | other
I am very much a go with the flow but also scream about things in IMs kind of girly because I am a loser. I really enjoy the little thread we have going at the moment!
Feel free to: message me ooc | message me ic | tell me your ideas | write a starter | answer one of my opens | send a meme | reblog this with your preferences - let’s find common interests!

Life in Golding - miniseries
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The New Girl
Carrietta White stood at the town limits of Golding, fiddling with the handle of her suitcase. Even as she walked past the comparatively small sign reading Welcome to Golding!, she found she really did not want to be here one bit. But there was nowhere else for her to go. Too much destruction was behind her.
Two figures were coming out to meet her at the town limit, one male and one female. The closer they got to Carrie, the more she realized how utterly ridiculous the gray-haired man looked, with a fancy suit and an eyepatch like a character in a play. The woman, judging by her uniform and badge, was the sheriff of Golding. Carrie clutched her suitcase until she felt her knuckles go numb.
“Hey, kid,” the sheriff said, in a surprisingly warm voice for her demeanor. She had cherry red hair peeking out in wisps from under her hat. “It’s good to see you!”
“Carrietta White,” the man said, in a deep Southern drawl just as theatrical as the rest of him. “Our newest resident! It is very good to see you, indeed.”
“It’s just Carrie,” was all Carrie could mutter.
The sheriff laughed. “Well it’s nice to meet you, Carrie. I’m Sheriff Heelshire, but most people call me Sheriff Jeri; see, my given name is Jericho,” she winked at Carrie, who relaxed ever so slightly. “And this wacko is Mayor Buckman.”
“Mayor George W. Buckman of the great city of Golding,” the mayor boomed, stretching his arms out wide. Sheriff Jeri shot Carrie a conspiratorial smirk, rolling her eyes, and Carrie bit back a giggle.
“He’s just here to welcome you to town,” Sheriff Jeri put a hand on Mayor Buckman’s shoulder, who looked at her, surprised.
“Well, now,” he said, “I thought I’d help you give her the tour, at least until we make it to the bakery. I’ve got to make sure we show her good hospitality.”
The sheriff rolled her eyes again, not even remotely secretly this time. “Alright, lead the way then, Mayor Whackman - I mean, Buckman.”
Mayor Buckman did not seem perturbed by Sheriff Jeri’s insolence. On the contrary, he laughed heartily as he led both the sheriff and Carrie down Golding’s main street.
Carrie tried to take everything in, but there was too much to remember on the first time seeing everything. Her head was spinning from all the changes, and she was dimly aware of the orange leaves floating on the breeze around the lamp posts along the sidewalk, the complete lack of litter, and various storefronts saying things like Mariko’s Floral Arrangements and Golding Gazette. Mayor Buckman walked ahead of Carrie and the sheriff, talking in his booming voice almost more to himself than to the others.
“There’s the post office up there, Miss Lucy manages that. If you get any mail, you can walk up and pick it up, but sometimes Mr. Coltrane delivers the mail when he’s not on routes out of town. Speaking of Mr. Coltrane, his wife manages that bank right there. There’s the pharmacy, the doctor’s office….”
Sheriff Jeri continued to make funny faces behind the mayor’s back, making Carrie laugh quietly, until the mayor stopped short. “And there’s where my sweet Sylvie works, her bakery!” He opened the door under a sign that read Golding Glory Goods and motioned the ladies through.
Inside the air was heavy and sweet, and Carrie instantly felt more at ease than she had earlier. She fiddled with her suitcase handle and looked sideways at Sheriff Jeri, who winked at her. There were a few tables situated throughout the bright bakery, and even fewer people seated at the tables enjoying sweet treats. Carrie noticed an Asian lady in a black judicial robe, a patriotic-looking clown, and a skinny man with long blond hair all sitting together sharing a large cupcake, a couple sitting together at a corner table, each eating fruit tarts, and a woman sitting alone with a book, a small plate of Linzer cookies, and a cup of tea.
A young, smiley, rosy-cheeked lady behind the counter grinned brightly at the three newcomers. Sylvie Buckman was quite a bit younger than Carrie expected, but something about the almost motherly mannerism with which she rushed around the counter to greet them made her seem more mature.
“Why, you must be Carrie!” she smiled, stretching her arms out as if to hug Carrie before drawing back suddenly, gasping softly. “You know what? You need a cinnamon roll.”
Carrie blinked. “What? But I don’t have…”
“It’s on the house, honey,” Sylvie Buckman said, guessing Carrie’s protest. In a flash, she disappeared behind the counter and reappeared with a steaming, sticky cinnamon roll on a small blue willow plate. “They’re fresh! Oh, and Jeri,” she said, turning to the sheriff, “I’ve got that cookie assortment you wanted, all packaged and ready to go!”
“Thanks, Syl,” Sheriff Jeri smiled. “Brahms says you bake the best chocolate chip cookies in Golding, and I’m willing to concede defeat on that point,” she laughed a little, adding, “Although I still make better chicken parm.”
Sylvie laughed. “I’m not arguing!” she said jovially, presenting Sheriff Jeri with a large box wrapped in a brown ribbon and smelling wonderful. “And I saved you a slice of cherry pie, mister,” she leaned on her counter and pointed to the mayor, who chuckled heartily and sauntered up to his wife.
Carrie peered down at her cinnamon roll, gingerly pulled a piece off of it, and tasted it. Instantly a warm light spread through all the way down to her toes, like a gooey, spiced hug. “Mmm,” she said aloud without realizing it.
Her inadvertent noise drew the attention of the whole bakery to her. Before she could say or do anything, Mayor Buckman’s voice boomed, “Everyone, this is Carrie White, our newest resident here in Golding! Carrie, this is my wife, Sweet Sylvie,” he said, beaming at the baker, who waved gently at Carrie.
Sheriff Jeri took over the introductions. “Right, this is Daniel and Tsianina Robitaille, local artisans,” she indicated the couple eating fruit tarts, who smiled and nodded at Carrie, as their mouths were full. “This is Bethany Cromeans, the funeral director and president of the Golding Knitting Club,” Sheriff Jeri introduced the woman sitting alone, who shook Carrie’s hand and murmured Nice to meet you. “And this is Captain Spaulding, Otis Driftwood, and Eugenia Driftwood. Otis is a farmer, his wife Eugenia is our justice of the peace, and Captain runs a restaurant with one of our other farmers.”
“Best fried chicken in the state!” Captain Spaulding, the clown, proudly proclaimed. “Or barbecue, if you ask Drayton Sawyer.”
Carrie smiled shyly at everyone, growing quite overwhelmed. Perhaps sensing this, Sheriff Jeri put her arm around Carrie and said rather loudly, “Well, I’ll be getting Carrie on up to her new home. I’ll return the plate when I come back through town, Syl,” she added.
“You’re moving into Strawberry Oaks, right?” Bethany Cromeans asked, looking back up from her book. “The Voorhees family?”
Carrie shook her head, more out of confusion than anything else.
“Jason and Mo are fostering her, yes,” Sheriff Jeri answered, making it as obvious as she could that she didn’t want to continue this conversation.
“There’s lots of foster kids in Golding,” Tsianina Robitaille said, seemingly finally swallowing the fruit tart. “Ours included, and George and Sylvie’s. You’ll meet them all in school.”
“Right, we’ll see y’all,” Sheriff Jeri ushered Carrie out the door and back into the crisp Golding air. “Sorry about that,” she said once they had walked a ways up the road. “I just thought you needed to get out of the spotlight, all things considered.”
Carrie didn’t say anything at first, wondering if the sheriff knew where she came from.
“I had to read your file, see,” Sheriff Jeri confirmed, as if reading Carrie’s thoughts. “I have to know the backgrounds of every foster kid that comes to Golding, that way I can place them in a family that will actually help them.” she paused before continuing. “I know a little of what all that feels like. That stuff with your mom? Mo is kind of familiar with it too. Lots of maternal trauma here in Golding, I’ve noticed.”
Before Carrie could even comprehend a reply to this, a beat-up truck pulled up next to the two of them and a man leaned out of the driver’s side window. “Hey, Sheriff,” said the man, in a Southern drawl similar to that of the mayor. “Y’all need a lift up to Strawberry Oaks? I’m headed up that way myself; Anjali borrowed one of Mo’s cake pans so I’m returning it while she’s working.”
“Sure,” Sheriff Jeri replied, motioning for Carrie to follow her as she walked around the front of the car. “Carrie, this is Bo. He’s the shop teacher at the school - you’ll have to call him Mr. Sinclair there, of course.”
Carrie gave Mr. Sinclair a tight-lipped smile as she and the sheriff climbed into the truck, and settled herself to gaze out the window for the journey to Strawberry Oaks.

Give me one favorite quote for each of the phantom thieves! >:3c
thank you for the ask! i'llll give a couple favorite quotes i think, where appropriate. this game has a whole lot of really phenomenal dialogue at times djhfbgbhj
Ren: "Checkmate." - one of his like only four voiced cutscene lines in p5 the game. really fucking good. "Nice to work with you, Ryuji!" - fucking amazingly charming little exchange from the p5 anime where ann playfully blows off ryuji, who gets grumpy about it, to which ren immediately chimes in. it's so fun and cute and full of personality.
Morgana: "We are the Phantom Thieves, and we're here to take your bride!" - great line, definitely should have been haru's and not his, but it's still fantastic. "I want to stay here forever!" - morgana coming clean right before he returns to the thieves legit makes me tear up. it's such a wonderful scene and this line lives rent free in my head.
Ann: "I will rob you of everything!" - final line of her awakening cutscene and it STILL gives me chills. "He called me pretty lady :D" - hearing this during Jose's introductory scene in royal made me laugh so hard i almost choked. it was so fucking funny and cute and just jdhfbgjhbj g-d. ann getting happy cause this tiny little baby boy was nice to her, just makes me grin.
Ryuji: "There's a place for you here too. Right next to me." - the chariot 9 confession scene that never was. g-d. canon ryuji has it fucking rough, crushing on a guy who is Contractually Obligated to be heterosexual. anyway this scene is great and this line is great. "Stop looking down on me with that stupid smile on your face!" - another awakening line that just fucks so incredibly hard. it's really good shit.
Yusuke: "No matter how often I may lose my way or stumble on our path...I will always return." - Yusuke's third semester awakening scene was probably the only section of his canon characterization that i really liked? but boy howdy was it good. it was REALLY good.
Makoto: "Don't get all cocky because I normally behave myself. I am DONE playing nice." - yet ANOTHER awakening line that fucks severely.
Futaba: It's impossible to pick one specific line for this slot but I'll just say every single line Futaba has in P5S between battles and for treasure and stuff. She's a constant delight, literally throws out meta references to the series' MUSIC "Bring on the mass destruction!" "Wanna give 'em a last surprise?" it's fucking amazing djhfbgjh. and her MENU lines??? she makes autistic noises every time you open her part of the menu!!! biggest grin
Haru: I've said some of my favorite haru lines in a previous ask today but if i had to pick a specific line i liked from her cool moments in Scramble... "No matter how many times you fall, you can always get back up and start again!" - throwing mariko's own words back at her, giving the same pep talk mariko gave her when she was a child. it's sweet and cliche and i love it.
Kasumi: "You're telling me I'm not cutting it? As if I don't know that better than anyone!" - another awakening line that gives me such fucking chills aaaaa g-d. so fucking good. Laura Post did fucking AMAZING with this.
Akechi: Honestly, the entirety of the boiler room scene could go here. I don't think I could quote it by heart or anything, but it's damn close to that level of rent-free djhfbgjhb. Especially "So how!? How can someone like you have something I don't!?" fucking kills me every time. g-d. insane in the brain.

Love Unlimited Infinity Comic #19-#24 “X Loves of Wolverine”
of course i’m gonna read through this one too! X Lives was a hilarious trash fire and i enjoyed it, X Deaths was terrible, and Life of wasn’t that bad. so is this one any good?
#19
Logan’s on a date with Mariko. talks about how he’s not usually this fancy, how she’s the first lady he could see having a future with (we’ll forgive forgetting all the others since you know, swiss cheese memories). confirmation Logan can speak French is kinda neat. so a jerk comes in complaining they took his table, so Logan and Mariko leave to go get street food. a mugging happens, Mariko smacks the mugger with a sign. then she says she’s returning home tomorrow and asks him to come with her. ok, not a terrible start...but this isn’t gonna be a whirlwind tour like Life of/Lives is it? boo.
#20
in Japan, Mariko and Logan are still dating. then wild boars attack. ok, random; Logan waxes poetically about man vs monster...because he fought off wild boars...kinda stretched thin there huh buddy. so he runs off to tell a bartender how he done screwed up...and the bar tender’s hitting on him? is that meant to be Seraph? eh, he goes back to make up with Mariko, declaring his love.
#21
and now they’re getting married. but the X-gang are there to attend. oh but the necklace the bartender was wearing is back on another woman, so...that’s our villain? or is she Jean, since Chuck just brought up that she’s dead right now?
Tumblr media
why are these turning into slash fiction??
so wedding time until Phoenix crashes it. huh, weird.
#22
jean steals Logan from the wedding, claiming she loves him and that he knew Mariko was going to bail. so...is this all a memory replay then? that’d track with the title themeing... Jean suggests that they elope to the starts and become the Guardians of the Galaxy. he calls shenanigans cause scents don’t match, stabs her, and oh look the necklace reappears. and as Logan falls being thrown off a cliff, the art transitions into him on a bed? and some creepy bug lady plugged into him wearing the pendant. so yup, it’s a memory replay.
#23
Logan wakes up in bed to Mariko...then Jean crashes AGAIN, but as Marvel Girl this time. so...is that the real/current Jean then and bug lady is masquerading as Mariko? oh but wait, Silve Fox now pops in, so i think bug lady isn’t anyone specific? does bug lady make you relive your past love, but Logan has had too many so she’s getting jumbled?
Logan gets out  of there to try to clear his head and figure out what’s going on. but then Storm and Mystique show up to be scorned lovers too. Charlemange and Amir? idk who those exes are. oh but we got Rose to show up...then i think Itsu and Deathstrike maybe? are we not going to have Clara?? someone off panel says “I love you, bub” but idk which one...but yeah no Clara, and no one that could be mistaken as Clara. are we to assume that he didn’t really love her then? cause it can’t be these ae all the women he got killed by loving them, because idt he was ever responsible for Storm’s death at the very least...
#24
we open this up with who i think was the hostess from the fancy restaurant and the bartender, bringing home a drunk guy. she’s white haired, got the necklace, so obviously bug lady. OH wait, she’s some form of psy-vamp, feeding off of past love memories. so...he’s Valentine from Monster High. huh.
her name’s Annika, and she explains her deal. seems Logan’s healing factor is messing with her, coupled with his swiss cheese memory, so she’s ODing on his love juice (ew not that one) and getting love drunk (heh) and claims to be in love with him now?? anyways, he stabs himself awake, and just kills her. the end.
over all, that was lame. it’s a short one and done which is good, because it wasn’t worth much else. but i’ll also give, if Life of was the Unlimited companion to X Lives, this was certainly that to X Deaths; promised multiples, really only focused on a narrow one point, far less fun and less nice to look at.

                                         ╔═════ ∘◦ ✾ ◦∘ ══════╗
after countless of busy weeks which were only filled with text messages and a couple of phone calls, natsuki and mariko finally got a chance to bring their plans to life. the duo had always been known for their constant travels, may they be local or international. there was just something so precious and valuable whenever they spend time with each other, crossing all sea and land boundaries, and discovering areas that would most certainly hold memories they will never forget. this time around, both have decided to explore the seventh largest city in japan that lies within the surfaces of osaka bay, kobe.
the second day was just about to start with natsuki yawning against the back of her hand and mariko chuckling at the sleepyhead. she could not blame the other for it since they were guilty of heading back to their hotel quite late last night; with the excuse that they could not possibly just end their day one dinner without seeing the kobe tower glow beautifully and majestically against the dark blue blanketed sky.
... that and they have already splurged on shopping at harborland.
a pout appeared on natsuki’s lips and she began slapping her cheeks in hopes to make her feel more … human. even going out of her way to encourage mariko to do the same, which after a couple more of teasing, the other eventually gave in.
“you know,” mariko started, slipping on her shoes by the genkan. “rather than abusing our cheeks, why don’t we just get coffee before we do our itinerary for today?”
she was right. mariko is always right and much saner.
this was why the pair soon found themselves sat in carefully crafted wooden chairs, hidden from the public eye thanks to the intricately designed and painted shoji blinds. the ladies could not help but smile contentedly as they breathed in the scent of coffee beans, the grinding machine not too far away producing its unique melody that rang a symphony in their ears. fortunately, it was still early enough for the famous establishment to be deserted by people and they could have some moment of peace to keep their energy bar full. because really, starbucks is everyone’s go-to place whenever they need some quick caffeine fix.
why did they choose starbucks anyway? why not a local café? one could possibly tease them for traveling miles just to grab coffee at a shop that was obviously all over tokyo. yet what these people did not know is how different the ambiance and architectural style this branch has. its structure resembled a traditional japanese home which blended naturally in the neighborhood. instead of shrill metal-scraping noises coming from trains traveling to and from stations plus loud, rambunctious conversations as background music, kobe’s version felt one with nature. there were flocks of birds happily chirping on the trees surrounding the area and colorful, seasonal flowers bloomed healthily in bushes - definitely providing the much needed relaxation time spent in café should be like.
“much much better~” natsuki hummed against the rim of her finished cup, a satisfied smile etched on her lips.
“i told you. no body harm needed.” mariko grinned with her manicured eyebrows wagging.
“alright alright~ stop fighting me now, miss mariko!” she stood up with a little stretch and offered her hand for the other to take. “shall we start our adventure?”
with their hands clasped that swung in the air and a skip on their steps, kobe was once again ready to witness their one of a kind friendship.
