Trying my hand at some long exposure photography to get a silky effect on a waterfall. The first photo was taken at 1/2.5 sec, the second at 1/6 sec. A resident physician at the University of Ottawa's faculty of medicine who was suspended over pro-Palestinian social media posts says he's been reinstated but has no plans to return to the institution. Dr. Yipeng Ge, 29, was sanctioned by the university last November after it got several complaints about a series of pro-Palestinian posts he'd made, ones that included references to "apartheid" and "settler colonialism." At the time of his suspension, Ge had been a fourth-year public health and preventive medicine resident and was completing a residency at the Public Health Agency of Canada. His research has focused on Indigenous health, anti-racism and decolonization.

Welp, I've done the leaf thing for this year. Went out and collected a bunch of leaves in the rain. The first one is similar to one I did last year, (just with 2023 leaves), and the second one is different. I really wanted to go outside despite the weather. I might make other leaf arrangements tomorrow or on Monday, depending on my mood. I always enjoy doing this even though the results are similar to previous years. It never gets tiring for me! I find it really interesting that when the leaves are organized in a rainbow sequence, the dark Norway Maple leaves, (I think Acer platanoides), look more like their natural brownish/purple colour when neighbouring red leaves, than when they are randomly placed with different colours. It makes them look more blueish. I find the scattering of light effect to be very cool.

A journalist was barred from entering CANSEC, one of the world’s largest arms and weapons ‘defense trade show.’ The organizer stated they did not want to see headlines like, “War mongers gather in Ottawa” and get questions like, “how do you feel about killing children?”

This year, CANSEC only granted access to select, friendly media. Organizers wanted to avoid reports that are critical of war and those profiting from weapons sales that kill millions around the world every year. 

This despite the event’s sole purpose of showcasing and blatantly doing business in service of war and global conflict.

Every year since 1998,  hundreds of arms dealers, weapon manufacturers, foreign government representatives, Canadian ministers, surveillance manufacturers, and military officers have come to Ottawa to attend CANSEC.
