The unexpected discovery of China’s earliest writing occurred when Wang Torong came down with malaria. The prescription of ‘dragon bones’ to help the healing process set off an investigation which ended up leading to the oracle bones of Yinxu, the earliest known source of Chinese writing.
Ongoing use of dragon bones in Chinese medicine raises concerns among experts, lamenting the continual depletion of potential paleontological and archaeological treasures.

Description
Oracle bones–animal bones used for pyro-osteomantic divination rituals in East Asia–are one of the most important types of bone artifacts in Chinese Neolithic and Bronze Age sites and the source of inscriptions representing the earliest written texts in ancient China
Pyro-osteomancy is, in general, a process where random cracks appear in a bone after it is heated by fire, or a hot poker, and the pattern of cracks is interpreted by a human expert
Typically, in ancient China, some inscription is made on the bone after the ceremony, recording what might, or did, happen
Although these inscriptions remain the focus of most research, oracle bone use far predates the inscribed examples and continues after they were a primary medium for writing
The earliest oracle bones in China come from sites in northern China that date to the late 4th millennium BCE
Between the late 3rd millennium and late 2nd millennium BCE, oracle bone divination became increasingly specialized and focused on a limited variety of animal taxa as it was associated with individuals and institutions that held positions of power in early Chinese politics
Based on the inscriptions on the Bronze Age oracle bones from the site of Yinxu in Anyang, Henan, we know that the burning of these bones was a central part of a system of prognostication that was associated with the decision making by the royal court of the Shang Dynasty
We can further infer that the other examples of oracle bones that are not inscribed represent divination practices in various contexts in early China, and represent the significant role that divining practices had in helping people make sense of the dynamic and unpredictable world within which they lived

trigger warning for cancer!!
just got off the phone with my dad and my corgi, macy, does have bladder cancer. the vets have been taking their time trying to figure out everything but they finally got back to my dad today to tell him the news. we have 3 options for treatment and none of them are cheap. i hate to do this but i’m in the process of moving 2 more hours away from my family and i want to help them out as much as i can while also not having to ask them for money.
i’m not asking for donations, i’m really not, i sell divination readings so if you’d like to help my parents, myself, and most importantly — macy, please consider buying a reading from me! i have p*yp*l, v*nmo, c*sh*pp, ko-fi, and z*lle ((message me for that))
i’m more than willing to offer multiple readings for a lower price, i’m just desperate to help my parents and my dog. we have 4 dogs in total so having to spend a lot on macy is going to cause issues for everyone in the house so please, please consider sharing this post so people can potentially buy a reading from me.
this is a post that no one ever wants to make but here are some silly pictures of macy begging for my siblings food!!

i just realized something extrodinary.
Ouranos, Kronos, and Zeus were/may be overthrown by a son, right?
Ouranos's wasn't prophesized, but man. it probably would've been.
Meanwhile, Kronos's was prophesized.
And we're pretty sure Zeus is paranoid about that happening to him.
and i was thinking; "wow, i wonder what, exactly, about them that has this air of "will be overthrown" hanging over them."
and it hit me.
they're all terrible fathers. the cycle keeps repeating.
and it won't stop until whatever's wrong is corrected.
and who, of Zeus's godly sons, is widely acclaimed to be one of, if not the best, godly parent?
Apollo.

"The so-called oracle bone inscriptions (jiaguwen 甲骨文 "plastron bone inscriptions") are remnants of archival documents from the late Shang period 商 (17th-11th cent. BCE) upon which records of royal divinations were carved or inscribed. The material is the plastrons (breastshields, gui fujia 龜腹甲) of tortoises or scapulae (shoulder-blades shou jiagu 獸胛骨) of different cattle. The oracle bone inscriptions are the oldest extant Chinese texts written in a perfectly developed script. Unfortunately there are no older stages of the Chinese script preserved (except some clan insignia and examples of logographs of uncertain meaning), but it appears in full maturity on the Shang oracle inscriptions." http://www.chinaknowledge.de/Literature/Historiography/oracle.html
