DP x DC Dead Soulmates
This is probably the only soulmate au I'll ever do so enjoy
Soulmate au where your soul mark turns black when your soulmate dies
Danny and Jason are soulmates. The problem? Both of their soul marks are black. Sure, they came back, but not in a typical way, so each thinks the other is dead
So what do we get? Longing. Two guys longing for a love they thought lost to them, thinking tenderly of a future they don't think they could have, even without the added craziness of their lives. Standing on rooftops, smoking in the cold november air, their breath indistinguishable from the smoke, their spent cigarettes flicked off the edge like discount shooting stars, lamenting their fates, probably to each other for the dramatic irony of it all
they both get it. The quiet kind of grief, longing for somebody they never got the chance to know, thinking about how things could have been different, how the should have been different. That understanding is what draws them towards each other
and then? Jason sees Danny's mark, Jason shows his own, they stare at each other, silent for a moment, before arms wrap around the other, lips pressed together, and quiet tears fall like rain to the rooftop beneath their feet
longing, angst, and then happy ending
and you can thank this song for inspiring the mood for this

mr schwartz is one of the gayest songs alex has ever written, there i said it. and all right yes any song that has references to putting on a persona/leading a double life/hiding in any way WILL inevitably come through as queer to my gay arse regardless of the actual intention behind them. and yes we’ll never really know where alex’s head was at when he wrote the song or what it was about.
but. i just find it interesting that the song with the most explicitly romantic - as in, cannot be interpreted as platonic - lyrics on the car album (‘might be half a love song in it all for you…. kiss me now before it gets too cute’) is also the song that includes such heavy-handed references to pretending to be someone else, specifically in order to avoid letting others (‘the crew’) down. much to think about.

Whelp, I've graduated from writing poetry to full-on love songs. Unfortunately I don't have Gale's voice, so my own mezzo-soprano will have to suffice lol

C Am F C
C Am F G
C Am
You saved me the very

First day that we met

I’ve loved and been used before

But you’ve given me hope
F C
For the first time in ages

That I could be worth something more
If I fall will you catch me?
If I fall in love?
I’d give you each star in
The heavens above
My heart and my soul
Anything I can do
I’d happily do it for you
If you’ll catch me

I’d blow your mind

I’d give you the best gifts that I could find
Em
Yet you say you want
Em
Me as I am

Not the miracle, just the man
Em
If it is true
Em
I’ll leave behind

All of my old ambitions

I’ll start right here

A life with you my new mission

Heterosexual men will see the worst fucking man in the universe and be like “OMG literally me” even though they’re not half as shitty, then watch that man breathe a tenth of the word “boyfriend” in season 11 episode 47 and decide the show is no longer for them and instead exists exclusively for gay people.

thinking about how i am forever in alongside the boys in jumpers on bikes from schools and cars, with autumn leaves fallen sparse across the mid afternoon. she blazed about how cultural language is an operating system, a simple interface rendered feeble and listless when tested with divinity or a true understanding of the human condition. i never did understand the duality of art and reality, living life and treating it as such but with a certain disconnect to touch that cajoles at the artist with comfort and abandon, and between the spires and rolling roofs of the white city, that orange english light cast only one, singular shadow, for you are not beside but within me
