“Echo and I have scoured through Imperial and Republic files, but intel about the Advanced Science Division is limited.” Tech revealed as he tapped through the information.
“Do we know where they’re detaining Crosshair and the other clones?” Hunter asked.
“Negative. Their base of operations is unknown.”
“Well, what about their chief scientist?”
“There’s even less on Dr. Hemlock, and I was very thorough. He is a ghost.”
“Not quite.” Echo interjected as he came down from the cockpit. “According to a contact of mine, Hemlock’s set to attend a high-level Imperial summit in two rotations.” He walked over to the other control panel and inputted the information.
“Where?” You queried as you all stepped across to look at the screen.
“Tarkin’s compound on Eriadu.” He pulled up an image of the location. “If we do a covert infiltration, we can plant a homing beacon on Hemlock’s ship and track him to his base.”
“And to Crosshair.” Omega added.
“Hmmm, it won’t be that simple.” Hunter disputed. “We’d be at a tactical disadvantage, and I’m not sure it’s worth the risk.”
“Hunter, I know why you’re saying that but if what I was sensing was actually Crosshair, he was in a lot of pain, and this is real. He needs us.” You said as gently as you could manage.
“I agree.” Tech concurred with you. “I understand your hesitation. We have not always agreed with Crosshair, but he is still our brother. We do not leave our own behind.”
“If there’s a chance to get him back, we have to take it.” Omega piled on.
“Definitely.” Wrecker said.
In his heart, he agreed with what you all were saying but he had the responsibility of looking at the bigger picture and what he saw worried him. “What about reinforcements?”
“Well, Rex is on a separate mission, so it’s just us.” Echo answered. “A small enough team to get in and out without alerting them. But we’ll need to move quickly.”
Hunter needed a minute to really think about this. This wasn’t a decision that he could make lightly. He walked over to the door and went outside.
“Hold on.” You said to the others before you walked out the ship and sat on the steps.
“This isn’t a good idea.” Hunter said as he paced in front of you. Every survival and leadership instinct he possessed was telling him that this was a bad idea, yet this was his brother. He couldn’t turn his back on him, not when there was a chance that he could’ve changed yet he couldn’t shake that doubt.
“I understand your reluctance, I really do, but-”
“Do you think it’s worth risking everything we’ve built here?”
“It’s not it, Hunter. It’s him. And I know if there was the smallest chance that we could get Crosshair back with us and you didn’t take it, it would haunt you.”
Hunter didn’t reply immediately but he knew you were right.
You spoke into the silence. “That being said, if you truly can’t sanction this, I will walk back in there with you and back you up.”
Hunter paused his pacing and exhaled deeply. He turned to face you. “We’re finally somewhere safe. I don’t want to lose that. But...” He swallowed thickly, “I don’t want to lose him either, not if there’s a possibility that he’s made a different choice.”
You stood and stepped towards him. You took his hands in yours “It’s just one more mission. One more and we can call it.” You whispered.
“One more.” Hunter repeated quietly. “One more to get our brother back.”
You nodded and placed a delicate kiss on his lips. “Come on.” The two of you walked back aboard the Marauder to the awaiting faces of your team.
“Let’s get started.” Hunter said and you all began to get preparation officially underway.
--
Phee watched as you and the others were getting ready to leave. “So, where you all headed?” She asked as you and Omega wandered over to her.
“It’s a covert mission.” Omega said in a hushed tone.
“Oh, I see. Well, I expect details when you get back.” Phee instructed the young girl.
“Bye, Phee.” Omega said cheerily before she ran back to the ship.
“He never said anything.” Phee mused as she looked past you over to Tech.
You followed her stare and rested a friendly hand on her shoulder. He’s the smartest yet sometimes the dumbest person I know. Just be patient with him and you’ll get there eventually.
“Yeah, I guess.” Phee acknowledged with a nod. “Be safe out there.”
See you later. You started to make your way back to the Marauder.
“Hey, wait a minute!” Phee shouted after you. “You never opened your mouth to say all this! Does this mean I’m in?”
“Call it a belated ‘thank you for bringing us here’ gift!” You called back before you hopped up the steps, but you didn’t go all the way in yet, you loitered by the doorway to wait for Tech, and you couldn’t help but be a little bit nosy as you saw Phee now making her way over to him.
Tech glanced up from his datapad and saw that Phee was heading towards him. He quickly focused his eyes back on the screen.
“So, you were just going to leave without saying goodbye.” Phee queried.
“That is correct.” Tech replied bluntly, thinking that would be sufficient but he felt Phee’s gaze become more pointed. He shifted his eyes to look at her. “Did you require a briefing?”
“You know, when two friends are talking, it’s called a conversation.” His lack of response did not surprise her. “Well, don’t go running off with any pirates or smugglers while you’re gone.”
“Yes. This mission should not involve either.”
Phee pushed the datapad down and took a step closer to him. “That’s not exactly what I was getting at.” She couldn’t help but release a soft chuckle at the clueless expression on his face. “See you around, brown eyes.” She gave him one last smile before she turned on her heels and walked away.
You noticed the way Tech watched her go and although you couldn’t see his face, you could sense the deeper feelings that were there even if he couldn’t quite acknowledge them yet. I’m sorry.
“For what?” Tech cocked his head at you as he paused at the bottom of the steps.
If Hunter and I were anything like the way you two are, I understand why you all had so many plans in place and the time you two have been around each other has been far less than what you had to put up with.
“I do not understand what-” Tech darted up the stairs.
You caught his shoulder to stop him from getting past you. “I’m also sorry because I told Hunter I’d leave you to your own devices, but I need to just offer you a little familial advice.”
“Advice?”
“With regards to you and Phee.”
“I hardly think there is a me and Phee. We-”
“I know. I’m not going to dive into all that yet. I’m only going to say when we’re back, maybe take her somewhere quiet, have a nice walk and just talk. Let yourself feel that slightly uncomfortable and awkward but at the same time content and happy feeling that comes from being around her because it could lead to something that nice that you both deserve.”
“I still do not know exactly what you’re referring to.” Tech deflected.
He could say that he all he wanted but you saw the way his eyes drifted downward as he said that. “Just feel. That’s all.” You affectionately squeezed the top of his arm before you let him go and you got the rest of your armour on as the ship powered up and left the island.
--
“I have identified a suitable location to land outside their sensor range.” Tech said as the ship got ready to exit hyperspace.
“How are we bypassing those cruisers?” You questioned as you saw the red warnings on the dash.
“Using a clearance code Rex and I acquired from one of our contacts.” Echo answered.
“Good to have you back, Echo.” Wrecker said merrily. “Just like old times.”
The ship came out of hyperspace.
“Wrecker, man the tail gun. Just in case.” Hunter directed as he saw the cruisers ahead.
“You got it.” Wrecker affirmed as he got up from his seat.
Echo transmitted the clearance codes and you all waited with bated breath.
“If this doesn’t work, be ready to fly out of here.” Hunter said as you all awaited confirmation that you were in the clear.
After a few more seconds of silence, the ship’s commlink beeped and an officer’s voice came through. “Vessel 1143, you are clear for approach.”
You made sure your armour and weapons were secure before you pulled your hood and mask up as the others put on their helmets. You were officially doing it now. You only hoped getting this intel about Crosshair would indeed be worth what was being risked.
--
“Let’s make this quick before they realise we didn’t land at the base.” Echo advised as he stepped off the ship first and the group of you got underway.
--
“What kind of approach are we making? A side-wind breach?” Omega asked inquisitively as you all stealthily made your way through the tree-covered mountain path.
“It worked on Raxus.” Tech said in reply.
“It won’t work here.” Echo corrected him. “The Empire’s protocols have changed since then.”
Wrecker let out a smug scoff. “Thanks to us.”
“No tanks and no explosions this time, Wrecker.” Echo reminded him as he walked past him.
Wrecker let out a disappointed groan. “Fine.”
Having reached the edge of the perimeter, you glanced up to see the sky rail system in place that crossed the abyss below and inwardly groaned. We were supposed to be avoiding heights.
Hunter half turned his helmet in acknowledgement before he looked through his macrobinoculars at the building on top of one of the mountain peaks. “Hmm. The compound is heavily fortified.”
“But there’s a weak point in the rail line that we can exploit.” Echo pointed out as he peered investigated the terrain through his own pair. “We’ll sneak past the sensor and hitch a ride under one of the cars.”
“You mean hang? Over that?” Omega said nervously.
You didn’t blame her attitude. This plan didn’t thrill you either.
“Well, it’s the only way to access the compound unnoticed.” Echo replied simply.
“Tech, disable the sensor.” Hunter ordered.
“That would trigger an alert. I can temporarily disrupt the feed, but I estimate only 30 seconds for us to clear the zone before it reactivates. We must be precise.”
You felt bad but you couldn’t help it, the way you all turned to glance back at Wrecker was pretty instinctual.
Wrecker protested in an affronted fashion. “What? I can handle it!”
Echo handed Tech one of the cable attachments for his blaster whilst Hunter monitored the sensor.
Hunter signalled for Tech to go and for now the only thing the rest of you could do was wait for his word.
“Stand by.” Tech advised into his comm as he got to work.
You heard the screech of metal on metal and looked ahead to see another railcar in the distance. You tapped your comm, “Another railcar is approaching. Are we set?”
“Not… yet.” Tech replied as he waited for official confirmation that the sensor had powered down. When he had that, he spoke into his comm, “The sensor is down. Move in!”
You all ran to the edge of the cliff and fired your cables to the side of the car.
You joined the others in grabbing a hold of whatever structure was available on the outside and eagerly awaited this particular part of the mission to be over.
--
“Halfway there.” Echo called back to the rest of you.
Wrecker calmly chuckled. “This isn’t so bad.” But he then made the mistake of looking down to the empty space below and groaned. “Never mind.” He started counting down the minutes.
--
When the car was arriving at the terminal, you all hopped off onto the outside platform before moved too far in.
Hunter landed a punch to the first trooper and tossed him over the rail before he pressed himself against the side of the building as you fired a shot past him that took care of the second trooper that was getting their blaster ready. He halted Omega from advancing past him as the door to the outside opened to reveal another soldier coming out. Without hesitation, he fired his own shot that sent the trooper flailing over the side and he led the way inside.
--
Your way in had brought you into the main landing bay and you took cover behind one of the many vast storage containers.
Hunter pulled out his macrobinoculars and scanned the various ships.
“Which ship is Hemlock’s?” Omega whispered.
“We need to access the hangar manifest from the control room.” Echo said.
“Echo, Tech, and (Y/N) with me.” Hunter ordered before he spoke to Wrecker and Omega. “You two, plant the homing beacon.”
You split up and got your missions jobs underway.
--
The four of you managed to make it up to the control room and stun the officers inside with little trouble.
“I’ll monitor their security channels.” Echo said whilst you and Hunter moved the unconscious bodies and Tech got to work on getting the manifest.
“Found it. Hemlock’s shuttle is at docking lane four.” Tech informed Wrecker and Omega through his comm.
“Copy that.” Came Omega’s reply.
“Hmm. Something’s not right.” Echo mused as he stared at the screen. “Many of the surveillance systems have had cycled deactivations in various corridors.”
“That is highly irregular considering the number of top-ranking Imperial officers present.” Tech agreed.
Hunter signalled to you and Tech, “The three of us will check in out and Echo, you keep an eye on things.”
The three of you drew your blasters and left the room.
--
You’d heard over the comms that Omega had successfully planted the beacon, but you were dealing with a more urgent matter. Your investigation of the cameras had led you to find a thermal explosive primed for activation.
“Someone is targeting this base.” You said warily as a bad feeling started to settle in your gut and you started to feel into the Force around you.
“One charge will not cause much damage.” Tech theorised.
You and Hunter reacted simultaneously and drew your blasters as you heard footsteps just round the corner of the corridor.
“Good thing we have more.”
You and Hunter kept your arms steady as two people disguised as Stormtroopers stepped in front of you. You were not reassured by their actions of raising their blasters in surrender.
“Didn’t expect to find you three here.”
“Saw Gerrera.” You breathed as the man removed his helmet, but you didn’t relax your stance since you knew his intentions here could not possibly fit in with yours.
“I told you on Onderon you had a choice to make. Looks like you’ve chosen. Keep an eye out.” He instructed his partner before he walked closer. “Did you make yours?” He asked you directly.
You gave a curt nod before you asked, “What exactly is your plan here?” You weren’t quite able to keep the suspicious out of your voice.
“I’m levelling this compound, along with all the Imperials inside it.”
You finally lowered your blaster and scoffed. “You can’t be serious?”
“Can’t let you do that.” Hunter added. “We’re tracking one of the officers. We need to find his base where clones are being imprisoned, including one of our own.”
“You expect me to call this off to save a few prisoners? We are trying to fight an Empire.”
You couldn’t help but take a protective step to the right as he advanced towards Hunter. You held Saw’s pointed glare and matched it.
“Have you considered that by destroying this facility you are wiping out any chance to gather intel that could help your cause?” Tech interjected logically.
“That would require the bigger picture thinking that he’s not all that great at.” You couldn’t help but snap.
Saw’s jaw clenched at your words, but he replied to the clone, “Taking out several of their commanders is a good start.”
“Well, that victory will be short-lived as their ranks will quickly be replenished.” Tech debated.
“Maybe so. But sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.”
As he spoke, you felt a hot wave of rage rise in your veins and it took a considerable moment of effort to tamper it back down. “You’d be destroying any shot we have at-”
“I would’ve thought you would understand. They murdered your people and you’re letting them get away with it. If you truly cared about what happened, you would be doing more. You survived and instead you’re playing happy families and-”
This time, it was Hunter who got protective as he saw the flash of grief and anger behind your eyes and the way Saw had started to crowd your space. “That’s enough.” He said sharply.
Saw glanced between you both with a knowing look in his eyes but before he could say anything else, his companion came back.
“We have to go now. A security team’s been alerted.”
You had to check in with yourself again. Something felt very different. You were usually far more level-headed with your emotions but if Hunter hadn’t interrupted when he had, you knew you would’ve acted in a way that you’d only done once before and had vowed to never repeat. It was like the Force was preparing you for something else, but you didn’t know what.
The doors suddenly opened behind you and a team of troopers walked through the door and it became a shootout as you all retreated to up the corridor. The exit the three of you needed was being occupied by the Imperials so you took cover to deal with them, but Gerrera and his now wounded partner were able to get clear.
Tech rolled a stun grenade down the corridor, and it took out two more troopers and you shot the other exposed soldier which gave you all the chance to advance.
As you rounded the corner, you pushed the remaining trooper’s blaster out the way and let Hunter use his body as a shield from the other soldiers lining the next corridor whilst you and Tech shot at them.
When it was finally clear, Hunter discarded the body and tapped his comm, “We’ve been compromised. Get back to the rail line.” He said urgently as the three of you sprinted down the hall.
--
Navigating the maze of corridors was hard enough but it was only made more difficult with the onslaught of Imperial fire as the many squads of Stormtroopers continued their pursuit. All the three of you could do was provide sporadic rounds of cover fire as you retreated but it wouldn’t be sustainable for long. Thankfully, the others intercepted you and so you all were able to find your way back to the railcar, but you knew the soldiers wouldn’t be far behind.
“We need an access code.” Tech said as he tried to get the car to start.
“I’ll override it.” Echo said as he plugged in.
Whilst Echo worked on that, the rest of you took aim at the troopers that were now making their way into the railcar. Unfortunately, it powered up with some Imperials in the second car, but you had the numbers, you just needed to hold out and get away from the compound.
--
Suddenly, the lights in the car flickered and you could feel the speed start to slow down.
“We’re losing power!” Echo announced with frustration as he knew there was nothing, he could do to prevent it.
You shot the last trooper before you joined the others in
As you stared out into the clouds and saw the enemy railcar a few metres ahead with a squad to Stormtroopers already setting their sights on you, you found yourself wishing you’d shot Gerrera when you’d had the chance. He’d followed through on his plan, but the Imperials were still standing, and it was the six of you who were going to pay for it instead.
“This is going to be a problem.”
Which you knew was Tech’s way of saying you were absolutely fucked.

Hunter: No, eight glasses!
Wrecker: I heard ten.
Crosshair: You need to drink at least five glasses of water per minute.
later…
Tech: Okay, I just read through every study I could find to try to figure out whether low-grade dehydration is even a real thing.
Omega: What did you learn?
Tech: If you spend all day doing research and forget to eat or drink, you start to feel pretty bad.
Hunter: I’ll get some water.
Tech: But how many glas–whoa, feeling dizzy.
Echo: Maybe you should just drink straight from the tap.
Tech: Hunter, we tried things your way.  Hunter: No, we didn't.  Tech: I did it in my head and it didn't work.

Echo: I'll offer you some friendly advice-  Crosshair: I don't want your advice.  Echo: Well, then consider it unfriendly advice.
Hunter, skipping rocks on a lake with Wrecker: It’s such a beautiful evening.  Wrecker: Yeah, it is.  Wrecker: *whispering* Take that you fucking lake.
Echo: So I’m the only one around here who can clean up, huh? You can't even lift a finger?  Crosshair: Do I get to pick the finger?
Hunter: Fun Fact! The average person will walk by 36 murderers in their lifetime.  Crosshair: I like how this is a "fun" fact.  Tech: It's fun because they didn't decide to murder you.
Tech: I just watched Crosshair jump off of a spinning chair. Luckily, he wasn’t hurt that badly. But the whole time, Wrecker was screaming for help, which caused Hunter to run in to help Crosshair. Just note that all of this happened in the span of six minutes.
*The squad's reaction to being told they're the chosen one*  Omega: I will not let you down.  Wrecker: Sounds fun.  Crosshair: K.  Echo: No, I'm fucking not.  Hunter: Do I have to be?  Tech: Please god, I am so tired.

Wrecker: *walking around disappointed after visiting an aquarium*  Tech: Wrecker, what did you think a tiger shark was?
Tech, to Omega: If you see Wrecker, give him this message *makes a neutral face*  Tech: He’ll know what it means.  *later*  Omega: oh, and Tech said to give you a message.  Omega: *makes a neutral face*  Wrecker: Oh no. The neutral face of displeasure.
Crosshair: What do you guys do when you're stressed?  Omega: Try and calm myself down!  Echo: Sleep.  Hunter: Get myself into even more stress, so that the first reason for my stress gets cancelled out.  Tech: I don't.
Hunter: I am convinced Crosshair and Wrecker share a brain cell.  Echo: And it's not in use very often, it seems.
Wrecker: Vegetable oil is made from vegetables, coconut oil is made from coconuts, so BABY OIL-  Echo: CAN'T WE JUST HAVE A NICE FAMILY DINNER FOR ONCE?!
Rex, walking into his house: Hello, people who do not live here.  Hunter: Hey.  Wrecker: Hi.  Tech: Hello.  Omega: Hey!  Rex: I gave you the key to my place for emergencies only!  Echo: We were out of Doritos.

“Far away from the sand,” Obi-Wan laughed, stepping out onto the beach and taking a deep inhale of the salty sea breeze. “Him and Padme are off… exploring,” he snickered.
“Eck,” Ahsoka cringed, shrinking in on herself. “Disgusting, I did not need that image.”
“Aww what’s wrong Ahsoka, can’t stand the idea of- Oh god.”
Rex’s jaw dropped as he slowly caught up to what exactly Ahsoka was gagging at, and both her and Obi-Wan laughed at the morphing look of disgust. He was no stranger to whatever his general and the senator had going on, but it had never really… occurred to him.
“Never seen you make that face before,” Cody laughed, slinging his arm around Rex. “Finally figure out what your General does when he sneaks off with the senator?”
“I wish I hadn’t…” he mumbled, hanging his head. “Wait, how do you know what they’re up to?”
“I mean, they just had children, I think it’s pretty obvious. Plus General Kenobi doesn’t always realize that the void has ears.”
“The void doesn’t have ears, the commander with a non existent sleep schedule has ears, and I’ve told you to stop eavesdropping on me,” Obi-Wan scowled, glaring at Cody.
“Sorry general, won’t happen again.”
“Hang on,” Ahsoka cut in, “what else have you-”
“Hot! Hot! Hot! Hunter! The ground is burning my feet!”
The group turned to their right to find the bad batch walking down the path to the beach, Omega already dancing around on the sand. She was jumping between feet before Wrecker came up behind her and lifted her up off the sand with a boisterous laugh.
“We did try to warn you,” Tech sighed. “Ah, captain Rex, commander Cody, I see you’ve already settled in.”
“Hello!” Omega cheered and waved awkwardly from her position in the air.
The group headed out further towards the water, Wrecker carrying Omega on his shoulder. She stared out at the water in awe.
“I thought you lived on Kamino,” Ahsoka asked, slowly her pace to be beside Omega, “isn’t water nothing new to you?”
“Ya, but Kamino’s always so gloomy, this place is completely different! It’s like looking at the stars!”
Hunter jabbed his arm back and Crosshair sputtered.
“What was that for?” he hissed.
“No.”
“I didn’t even say anything.”
“Crosshair,” Hunter stopped, and turned back to him, “don’t even think about it.”
They were standing alone, a little away from where the others were setting out umbrellas and blankets. Tech had brought down a cooler, and Echo was securing the umbrellas to bases under the sand.
Crosshair smirked.
“Come on, it’ll be funny. You can even go in with her.”
“You’re gonna scare her.”
“That’s part of the fun. You can’t protect her from everything,” Crosshair brushed past him, “She’s going to get dunked.”
“Then I’ll just dunk you.”
“Hmph, it’ll be worth it.”
Before Crosshair could take another step, Hunter came up behind him and hauled him over his shoulder, grabbing everyone else’s attention. Crosshair thrashed about, pushing on Hunter in a half hearted attempt to break free.
“What is going on over there?” Cody yelled.
“Nothing to worry about sir,” Hunter replied, running towards the sea and tossing Crosshair in.
Ahsoka’s eyes lit up as she watched the sniper hit the water and she turned to Rex with a sinister smile tugging at her lips.
“What is-”
“Ahhhhhh!”
Obi-Wan was cut off by Rex screaming as he flew out from under the umbrella and into the sea. The Captain landed much further in than Crosshair, who was sat in the shallows, and began spluttering once he resurfaced.
“That looks like fun! Omega hang on!”
“What why- Ahhhhh!”
Wrecker lifted Omega off the ground and ran into the shallow water, before throwing her in like the other two.
Hunter stared in shock as Crosshair started laughing.
“I never said I’d be the one to dunk her, captain.”

The Bad Batch Headcanons [How Protective They Are]
Tumblr media
【rating:pg-13 and sfw!】
【warnings:Mostly fluff about the different protective behaviors, but has mentions of Crosshair showcasing possessiveness, mentions of Echo having body image issues, and relationship insecurity.】
【a/n:I tried to keep these on the shorter side, but I think that's not possible with me. Sorry for any spelling mistakes!】
Hunter:
Tumblr media
On a scale of one to ten, Hunter rests at a solid eight out of ten at all times and especially when it comes to you.
He is already naturally protective over his brothers and Omega, so when it comes to you it's expected. But, the fact that he can sense all of the potential dangers to you means this man dials it up even more.
He knows he and the rest of the Bad Batch attract trouble, you could be put into danger by simply knowing them much less being in an intimate relationship with one of them. In large crowds this man will be by your side all of the time, holding onto your hand tightly for good measure. Whenever you're in a new environment, this man is hovering only a step away. He will glare at any person who tries to approach you that he doesn't like the look of. He is the type to shield you from blaster fire with his own body and so much so, you needed to have a talk with him afterward.
When you mention it to him, Hunter explains that he doesn't want you ever feel scared and that he just wants to keep you safe—he feels like it's his job to keep the person he loves most kept out of harms way. If he doesn't, he feels like he's failed as your partner. But, after a few gentle kisses, you reassure him that nothing will ever happen to you and that if he is really worried about keeping you safe, he can teach you how to defend yourself better.
Crosshair:
Tumblr media
The highest out of his brothers, Crosshair rests at a nine which isn't surprising to anyone.
He is has jealous tendencies by nature already, so when it comes to the thought of someone trying to take you away from him—he's not letting you go out without him on a good day.
Especially after his injury on Bracca, there is a deep honest insecurity that you'll leave him behind just like his brothers did. He doesn't exactly express this in a healthy way as he never talks about his feelings or what he's experienced. So, in order to compensate, to say he is possessive doesn't even scratch the surface. More often than not, he won't let you ever come on missions and if you do, you are ordered to stay by his side.
If any individual dare to flirt or much less talk with you while Crosshair's around, this man has no shame. He will glare daggers at the person attempting to talk to you, saunter over, ask to speak with you, and bring you somewhere secluded—once you're out of sight, his lips and hands will be all over you. He doesn't like when someone threatens what he considers to be rightfully his and only his. He recognizes his own behavior and it drives him crazy that you make him feel that way, but he considers you addicting.
Wrecker:
Tumblr media
The lowest out of all his brothers, Wrecker stands at a small two on the protectiveness scale.
This may seem low for him, but there's a very good reason why he's not as protective as his brothers—who would even try to mess with you with Wrecker standing beside you?
Nearly eighty percent of the time, Wrecker is usually stuck to your side or is pulling you around by your hand. You don't really have to worry about any creeps or anyone looking at you for that matter, especially when Wrecker leans down to receive a kiss from you on his cheek or pulls you into his lap. In his mind, he knows he can protect you and knows his own natural strength so he doesn't really worry. He towers over nearly everyone you encounter since he stands at six feet six inches.
The other twenty percent, by the chance that he isn't with you it usually means he's currently in the process of looking for you. So, if someone does try and talk to you, he usually finds you before long. In all honesty, he's not the best at social cues and doesn't even notice if the person is trying to flirt with you. He simply comes over with a big goofy smile, wraps you up in a big hug, and gives you a messy kiss. At that point, if the person isn't scared that they just tried it with you then that person doesn't know fear.
Tech:
Tumblr media
Not a surprise, Tech rests at a three or a four depending on the day and that's not because he doesn't care.
In most situations, he assumes you can take care of yourself without interference from him. But, if you truly need him for any reason, he's got your back within seconds.
It all comes down to communication between the two of you, if you express that you can handle most situations then he respects that and will let you do your thing. But, if you tell him that some social situations make you uncomfortable or that he needs to step in sometimes, he will. He's very secure in your relationship and often doesn't express jealously in the slightest, he trusts you and to him that's what matters. There was one time where he did get a little flustered when you apparently paid more attention to Hunter than him, but that was quickly resolved with a cheeky kiss from you.
If someone comes up to you and you do need him, you've come up with a way to let him know you're uncomfortable. It's a small little device disguised as a bracelet that is directly connected to the computer on his bracer. It will send him a small alert and he'll come to help. Tech is rather tall, standing at six feet four inches, and even if he was smaller that wouldn't stop him from speaking his mind. But, if the problem grows bigger, then he'll call the rest of his brothers.
Echo:
Tumblr media
Echo is sort of a middle ground, he sits at a solid six which isn't entirely shocking or unbelievable.
He's just enough confrontational that if he notices your visible discomfort he will step in but holds himself back from any overbearing possessive behavior, unlike Crosshair.
Deep down, however, he does want to feel secure in the fact that you're all his and no one else's. There is genuine insecurity that you'll move on from him to someone who can give you more than he can or, in his own words, more appealing that he is. He will often express his feelings of insecurity and after an exchange of kind, reassuring words he'll feel a lot better. With gentle reassurance when he needs it and helping his confidence, this fear lessen more and more over time. When he does, there's a night and day difference.
Instead of only stepping in when he needs to, when someone comes up to you he has no issue with coming over. Swiftly, Echo will loop an arm around your waist and pull you flush against his side. There will be a genuine smile on his face when he asks you who the person in front of you both is. With the security in knowing you're his, he likes it when others know they can't have you like he can.

Injured Pt. 2
Rating: SFW/PG-13
Word Count: 1.9k
Pairing: not so subtle hint to Hunter x Fem Jedi!OC
Warnings: Blood/bleeding, burn, and just general injured person, swearing, and FLUFF TIME (also sparks of feelings and the characters not recognizing them is like a drug to me so have fun)
Summary: You commissioned the bad batch to take you to Dantooine for your own personal mission in search of a Jedi temple, being an ex-jedi clone wars veteran. The rogue clones inevitably find a fight, which leads to Hunter getting injured. How will you all escape, and will you be able to rescue Hunter before its too late?
Authors note: Thanks for the notes on part 1! If part 1 was action, this is where the fluff ensues.
Link to part one here
You saw the blood on Hunter's hands, and images flashed through your brain. Dead clone troopers, your last fight on Umbara where your battalion was wiped out. I can’t let that happen again. You dove out of your cover and rushed to him. “Wrecker, help me get him!”
Echo shouted in through comms “Crosshair, focus your shots on whoever's firing that thing!”
You easily avoided the blaster fire, and with Wreckers help you pulled Hunter back to cover. You started assessing the blaster injury on him. It looked black and red, splotches of blood staining his uniform. “Hunter, can you hear me?”
Hunter gripped his side where the blaster shot him. “Yeah.” His voice sounded a bit weak. He wasn’t doing too great.
“I can help him, but we need to get to the ship now.” You spoke to the group.
“I’ve got it!” Tech spoke triumphantly, and made quick movements with the stolen comm unit he held. Suddenly all fire ceased from the Empires troopers. You peeked out and saw the troopers were clutching their heads, like they were in pain. It looked like Tech was sending them some strong feedback, a few had even passed out.
“Let’s move!” Echo called out. Wrecker helped Hunter stand, you went to the other side to support him, and you began your retreat. Crosshair remained for a minute to shoot down some troopers who were recovering, then he joined in the escape.
The ship wasn’t far, and you fortunately made it there in time before you and the group had to engage in another skirmish. Omega was standing by the ship, and saw you approach. She looked at Hunter and you think you saw tears well up in her eyes. “Hunter!” She ran toward him. “Is he okay? What's wrong?”
“Just a blaster shot, don’t worry about it.” Hunter spoke and gave her a reassuring nod. You knew he didn’t know for sure if he was okay or not. Everyone boarded the ship quickly.
“Get him to the medical station and do what you can Sera, Tech let’s get the ship out of here.” Echo spoke. He seemed to be comfortable acting as lead to the group with Hunter being more or less out of commission.
You and Wrecker moved to the medical bay with Hunter held up between the two of you, everyone else stayed behind. Crosshair had put a hand on Omegas shoulder to keep her from following you. Once at the small medical station on the ship, Wrecker helped set Hunter down.
“Is he gonna be okay?” Wrecker asked. He looked at you with worry written all over his face
You removed Hunter's helmet and the top of his armor, being gentle with your movements. “I think I can fix this, give me a minute.” His face looked a little pale, a sheen of sweat coating his skin.
The boys knew you had medical experience. There was a day where Omega had sprained her ankle while you were in the area. You were able to treat the small injury, and she healed relatively fast. Then she got a scratch, then Wrecker hit his head, and soon enough you began to get calls from them if a serious injury was involved. They knew to give you space and let you work.
You hesitated, and then removed your mask, setting it aside on the nearby table. Your hood fell to your shoulders. None of the bad batchers, save for Omega, had seen you without your mask, but you needed it off to work better. Plus with the battle you all went through together, you figured hiding your face wasn't a priority right now. Your blonde hair was in a tight braid. It was short and barely extended past the base of your skull. Hunter looked at you curiously, but his gaze kept shifting, like he was having a hard time staying conscious. “Keep your eyes open Hunter. I’m gonna clean this and we’ll get you patched up.”
You wiped some sweat off of him and he nodded at you, gritting his teeth. You cut away his shirt, and revealed the wound. You saw he was quite toned and muscular once the shirt was gone, and you felt your face grow warm.
Stop looking at his muscles Sera. You shook your head to snap out of it and got back to work. There were multiple shots on his right flank, nearly missing the center of his abdomen. His skin was burned where the shots had hit him. The burn wasn’t too deep, but there was some blood and irritation. Hunter must’ve been in a lot of pain. You glanced at his face. He was good at hiding it.
You administered a numbing agent, hoping to help with the pain. He seemed to relax a bit after this. Then, you looked around to check and be sure nobody else was in the room to watch. You closed your eyes, and put your hand over the wound. You opened yourself up to the force, and used it to sense Hunter's body. After a moment of concentration, it was easy to start the flow and you began to heal him. This was the real reason why you excelled in first aid: you could heal with the force, and it had made you a damn good general during the clone wars.
I still couldn’t save them. My troopers.
You cast the thought away quickly. You stopped your force healing, and got to work with bacta. You hadn’t used the force to seal up his wound, but you tried giving some life force to him as an attempt to ease away more of the pain and give him some strength. He seemed to gain a bit more color, and he looked stronger.
“You don’t look so bad.” Hunter said. He was looking at you, studying your face. You raised your eyebrows at him questioningly as you cleaned his wound out.
“Without the mask, I mean. You look nice.” You felt the heat return to your face again. You thought of his somewhat exposed body in front of you, then glanced at his face. “You’re not too bad yourself,” You said teasingly.
“I mean it.” He countered. “Why the mask?” You sighed at his question. That’s complicated.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.” He averted his gaze. He seemed embarrassed, or maybe sorry that he had gotten that reaction from you. You watched him for a second, debating whether or not to share.
You looked back at your hands and kept working as you spoke. “You’re all hiding from the Empire, right? Let’s just say you’re not the only ones.” He contemplated what you said for a moment.
“Thank you Sera.” Hunter's eyes found yours, trying to hold your gaze. He seemed earnest in his appreciation.
“Just don’t get into the habit of getting shot, alright?” You smiled at him and he chuckled at your joke. You sealed a large bacta patch on the wound. “But I think you’ll live today.”
“I also meant for coming and helping us.” He made eye contact with you. You felt a flutter in your chest, an unexpected response from his intense gaze.
You broke away from his gaze and sat down. “It was nothing. Like I said, I thought you guys could use the help. And I know you’re all capable, but I wanted to do what I could.” You shrugged when you finished.
Hunter sat up and put a hand on your shoulder. “We could’ve been in worse shape without you today Sera. That wasn’t nothing.” His hand was warm. You became more aware of your breathing suddenly and took a deep breath. You looked back up to him, and he was still staring at you. He wasn’t the easiest person to read, but you could tell he really wanted you to know that he was grateful.
You put your hand on top of his. More warmth spread through your body. “It was really nothing Hunter.” You smiled shyly now. Well, this is kinda weird. You thought. Why am I feeling like this around Hunter? Is it because he’s not wearing a shirt? You continued contemplating why you felt your heart trying to beat out of your chest, and the fact that Hunter's touch made an electric current pulse through your body. Maybe because I don’t have the mask on. Being exposed and whatnot. You decided this was a good theory.
“Let me know if you start feeling some pain, I'll be able to help.” You squeezed his hand as you spoke. “Sure thing.” He replied. You felt his fingers twitch underneath yours. You felt the flutter in your chest again when his fingers moved under yours.
The door opened and Omega walked in. “Hunter, are you okay?” She walked up to him, looking at the patch on his side. You felt his hand slip out between your shoulder and hand, taking his warmth with him. “Yeah kid, I’ll be fine thanks to her.” He tilted his head towards you.
“Hunter, it’s really-“ you interjected again, preparing to downplay your role in helping Hunter. Omega had interrupted you though by giving you a hug. You looked down for a second, then quickly glanced at Hunter. You thought you saw him smile, but he was getting up now. You looked back to Omega and patted her back, returning the hug. “Thank you Sera!” She released you and looked up at you with admiration. You had a soft spot for her, and you couldn’t help but smile genuinely at her. “Sure, Omega. It was no problem.”
Hunter walked past you two, then stopped at the door, leaning at the frame. You watched him, an eyebrow raised questioningly. He turned to look at you. “You know, we could probably use your help more often if we go out on more missions like this. I’m sure everyone else would agree.”
“Are you asking me to tag along when there’s a next time?” you asked, crossing your arms and raising your eyebrows to emphasize the when, not if. You were smirking too, enjoying the fact that Hunter was asking for your help. It was a rare occurrence and you wanted to enjoy the moment by teasing him for it.
He sighed. “Yeah, I am.” He looked away from you and waited for your response. Your smirk turned into a smile. You stood up and walked to Hunter, slightly punching his arm. “Yeah I could come and save your ass more.” You laughed, and he rolled his eyes at your comment.
Omega looked between the two of you, happy at the relationship that seemed to be developing. “You saved their ass?” She spoke, and your eyes widened. Hunter said “Hold on Omega, Sera didn’t mean to say that, Right?” He looked at you with furrowed brows, and the tone of his voice dropped when he addressed you. “Yep! That word doesn’t exist Omega, don't say it!” The words came out quickly and you walked past Hunter with a quick movement.
“Sera!” He followed you and exited out of the med station, you sensed a quippy back and forth conversation was about to happen. You smiled as he moved to follow you. I think I just made a friend. You thought. And if your suspicions were correct, you think you would get another 5 friends down the road.

Name and Soul: Chapter 3
AH! Here we go! Enjoy!
@mqgriett @darkangel4121 @thelambandthewolffe @maulscrosshair @trash-dino-5000
Crosshair x F! reader
Word Count: 2091
Warnings: SPOILERS for episode 3, Wrecker being best uncle, Sad Crosshair stuff, internal conflict, Tarkin being awful
“That doesn’t look very comfortable, kid.” You crouch down to Omega, who set herself up against Gonky and a wall.
“It’s okay, we’re fine.” The girl smiles up at you before looking back to her datapad.
You sit down next to her, patting the droid behind her. “How’s that diary coming along?”
Omega smiles and reaches next to her, opening the diary excitedly. “Really well! I can’t wait till we get him back. Do you think I could be as good of a shot as he is?”
“Oh I know you can,” You lean down to her ear, “And don’t ever tell him this, but I think you could be better.”
“No way, you’re lying.” Omega smiles and pushes your arm, laughing.
“Omega, I swear on my life, that I would never lie to you. You have talent and you're smart. You have a lot of opportunities out there.”
“Y/n! Can you give me a hand over here!” Echo pokes his head out from the cockpit.
“Yeah, one sec.” You rest your hand on the girl's shoulder, “I’ll be right back.”
“Y/n!”
“Alright alright, I’m coming!” You roll your eyes as you walk over to the man.
“The ship got hit hard when we left Saleucami. Everything has been glitching ever since. Things would go faster if I had some help.” Echo glares at Tech, who’s fiddling with… something.
“As soon as I finish this scanner.”
You lean on Tech’s chair. “But if the ship crashes, you won’t have the tools to finish your project.”
The man raises his eyebrow and glances at you. “If the scanner isn’t finished, we might have a repeat of Kamino’s events.” The three of you go silent before Tech changes the subject. “Besides, the ship's diagnostic report indicated no critical systems were compromised.”
The ship rumbles and you and Echo are thrown to the floor. When you look up again, you no longer see the blue of hyperspace.
“What were you saying about the ship being fine again?” Tech glares at you before grabbing the controls. The ship rumbles, nearly knocking you down again. “We’re crashing.”
You strap yourself in across from Wrecker and Omega. The internal lights start flashing red.
“We’re gonna die! We’re gonna die!” Wrecker grips his seat.
“Wrecker!” The man looks at you, following your eyes to Omega, who looks terrified. She frantically looks between the two of you.
“We’re gonna… be fine. We’re gonna be fine.”
--
“Is it over?” Omega looks at you, still shaken up.
You walk to her and squeeze her hand, “Yep, it’s all over. Are you okay?”
The girl nods hesitantly, “Y-yeah, I think.”
“... we have one spare capacitor onboard.” Tech states to the rest of you.
Omega walks over to a shelf and pulls out a box. Something you recognize.
“Omega…”
“Is it in here?” The girl looks at you all, stopping on your mute expression. “What?”
You straighten up, “That’s Crosshair’s weapons kit.”
Wrecker groans, “I’ll say it. I kinda miss him.”
Tech begins to describe what the inhibitor chip can do, but Hunter cuts in. You furrow your brows at his actions.
“Look, debating this won’t fix the ship.” Hunter glances at you before continuing. “We need to get off this rock.”
--
“Is it possible to implant a chip into a natural born?” Tarkin stares at the clone through the glass.
“It is.” Nala Se speaks quietly. “Why do you ask?”
“Private L/n is a very skilled soldier, those skills would be useful. Once she is caught, I need her unwavering loyalty.”
“Governor Tarkin.” Rampart walks into the room. “I have the report on Private L/n.”
“Very good, what did you find?” Tarkin turns his attention to the man for a split second.
“She’s as skilled as any clone, if not more. She graduated top of her class as a marksman at the Academy of Carida. If I may, L/n’s skills would be incredibly useful for Project War Mantle.”
“My thoughts exactly, Rampart.”
--
You stuck your hand out from the floor of the ship, Omega handed you a tool, curiously looking down at you.
“Where did you learn all this stuff?”
“Oh way before the war, this isn’t my first.”
“It’s not? Where were you before?”
You take off Tech’s spare goggles and sigh, “I think that’s a story for another time.”
Wrecker walks by, rubbing his head. “Ow! Ow”
You stand up and tap Wrecker’s leg. “What’s up with you?”
Wrecker winced again, “I must’ve hit my head in the crash. Ow.”
You hop up, setting down your tools. “I have an ice pack, that’ll help.”
“Thanks, Y/n.” Wrecker follows you back, “Y/n?”
“Hm?”
“My head doesn’t hurt that bad. But I wanted to ask you something.”
You turn around, confused. “Go ahead.”
“Well, you know how Omega has no room, like one of her own? What if we made her one? Make it a surprise.”
You smile widely, “I think that’s a great idea, Wrecker. We need to distract Omega though.”
“Guys, you need to come see this!” Hunter calls out.
As you walk out, you see a large shadow cross the window. “Woah! What the heck was that?”
Omega looks at you wide-eyed, “Some creature with a huge tail!”
Tech clears his throat, “Most likely an Ordo Moon Dragon, it took the part.”
A moment and some banter later, Hunter and Omega are getting ready to go after the creature. You look at Hunter, “Be careful.”
“Will do.”
You then look at Omega, “And you stay close to Hunter.”
“I promise! Cross my heart!” The girl responds happily.
You chuckle and wave as the two walkout. You glance at Echo and Tech arguing in the cockpit. You roll your eyes and walk to Wrecker. “Okay, let's get started! With Hunter’s senses, we don’t have a lot of time.”
--
Crosshair stands at the door, “Sir, you called me again.”
“Yes, you will have to abandon your search for Clone Force 99 for a moment. Onderonian insurgents have been found again, I will introduce you to your new squad. Find the insurgents and eliminate them. After you complete this, then you can continue your original task.”
“Yes sir, find Private L/n, terminate Clone Force 99.” The man walked out and back to his barracks. He sits on his bunk, grabbing the same necklace that he’s looked at more than a dozen times before.
Why do I care? I don’t know this woman. I love her… Wait, no. She’s a traitor. Don’t hurt her.
Crosshair lifts the ring into the light. He falls back onto his bed, clipping the necklace around his neck, completely unaware of what he did. I miss her. She betrayed the Empire. I miss my brothers. They left me. I’m sorry… I’m so sorry.
--
“What’s this?” Wrecker picks up the diary from the floor. You look back from the blankets you tie up to the top of the ceiling.
“Omega is writing all the stuff that happens in there. She said it’s for when we get Crosshair back.” You turn back, looking out the window of the gunner room.
“You don’t believe her?” Wrecker places the diary on the gunner chair.
“I do. But every day we leave him there makes it feel like it’s impossible. And no one acknowledges what happened. Not even Hunter…”
Wrecker places his hand on your shoulder, “I know, but Hunter misses him. You know how he is, he can hide that stuff easy.”
“I know, but I wish he would talk about it.”
--
This man was pissing Crosshair off. He’s arrogant. And chatty.
“Hey clone, what’s that around your neck?”
“None of your business.” Crosshair glares at the blonde man.
He smirks, “A little lady, maybe?” He scoffs, “Why would someone go with a clone.”
The group steps out of the ship, sneaking through the woods. Crosshair straightens his back.
“Move out.”
--
“Wrecker, I think we need one more blanket, just to be safe. And do we have any lights?” You jump down from the room, waiting for Wrecker.
“We have lights.” The man lifts a string of them up. “I’ll get 'em.”
“I’ll go get another blanket.” You walk to your room, glancing at the bunk. Crosshairs blanket is folded at the end, just like you left it that morning. You pick it up and hold it to your face. You smell him. It’s comforting, warm, and very uniquely Crosshair.
“Here we go, one blanket.” You place the blanket with the others. “It looks great so far.”
--
“Where’s Gerrera?”
“I don’t know, I wouldn’t tell you anyway.” The insurgent sneers at the helmeted man.
Crosshair tilts his head, “I believe you.” He lifts his blaster. NO! He pulls the trigger and the woman falls to the ground.
He lifts his weapon to the civilians. STOP!
“What are you doing? Gerrera’s fighters are dead. We should bring civilians in.” The blonde man steps forward.
“Those weren’t our orders.”
“Forget it, this is wrong.”
Crosshair walked up to the man, stopping toe to toe.
“You want to know why they put me in charge?”, stop it… please. “It’s because I’m willing to do what needs to be done.” He pulls out his blaster and pulls the trigger. The man drops. No, no, NO! Good soldiers follow orders. “Finish the mission.”
--
You are finishing up the room when Wrecker comes up. He’s holding something. Lula?
“What’s Lula doing here?” You look at the large soldier, who rubs the back of his neck shyly.
“I thought that Omega would like it, something to hold onto.”
“I think that’s great, Wrecker. She’ll love it.” You hold the doll and place it on the bed… next to her diary.
--
Crosshair looks at what’s left of his “squad”.
“If any of you tell higher-ups about this,” He pulls the necklace from under his armor. “I will kill you all.”
The soldiers tense up and all nod at the same time.
“... good.” I- I killed them. Innocent people. The ship lands, he goes through another lengthy debrief, he goes back to his barracks. Ignoring the others, he sits on his bunk, completely silent. Images flash through his head… of you. This woman. Y/N! Your smile, your hair, everything about you. He looks at the ring around his neck. He was right. Why would she be with me… who could love me?
--
“Tech! Can we please leave?”
“Gladly.” The man flips a few switches and the ship starts moving.
“Y/n!” Omega runs up to you.
“Omega! I heard you completed the mission? How’d it feel?”
“Well, I was really scared at first, but then I was able to get the part by tricking the creature!” The girl smiles up at you.
“I knew you’d be fine! And you saved Hunter.” You put a hand on her shoulder. “I’m proud of you, Omega.”
The girl hugs you, “Thank you, y/n.”
Wrecker walks up behind you, “Hey kid. Come with me.”
Omega raises her eyebrow, looking at Wrecker, then you.
You and the man chuckled, “Just cover your eyes.”
Wrecker guides Omega to the back of the ship, you following behind. He stops in front of the gunner room.
“Okay, open ‘em.”
Omega gasps at the view, looking from the room to Wrecker, back to the room, then you.
You walk up with a smile. “Well, what do you think?”
“I- I love it. You guys did this?”
“Yep! Y/n picked out the lights. We put it together when you guys left.”
“It was Wrecker’s idea. A great one at that.”
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” Omega jumps up and down before climbing up the ladder, sitting on the blankets. “I never had my own room before.” She picks up Lula, then sets the diary on her lap.
“You’re a part of this squad now too. You deserve your own room.”
--
You are lying in your bed, staring at the ceiling. The door swooshes open, revealing Omega, holding the diary loosely in her hand.
“Omega, it’s late. Why are you up?”
“I couldn’t sleep.” She walks across the floor and crawls up onto your bed. “Can you tell me a story? Please?”
You look at the girl and nod. Omega scoots into your side and rests her head on your shoulder.
“Hmmm, how about another mission story?”
The girl nods, paying attention.
“So, we met with a Jedi, Anakin Skywalker…”
Hunter walks to your room the next morning, finding you asleep against your headboard, Omega asleep, snuggled into your side.

“What do you mean you lost Omega?!” I shouted at Hunter’s image.
“I’m sorry, hun” Hunter’s eyes were full of pain and sadness.  I know it wasn’t his fault, after all they told Crosshair and me everything that happened, how the Empire somehow found them through some scavengers, nearly lost all their lives, only for a bounty hunter to show up, shoot Hunter in the chest and kidnap Omega.
I let out a sigh, “No, I’m sorry, it’s not your fault.  Are you okay, love?”
“Slightly sore”
“Huh, sore?” Wrecker pushed Hunter out of the way, “He nearly died!”
“His injury was pretty bad Medic Kambe, we could have used you” Tech finished pushing Wrecker out of the way.
“Are the rest of you okay?”
“Yes, vod’ika.  We are all fine.” Tech answered
“Tell us what the plan is?” Crosshair asked
“We need to figure out who’s after Omega, it’s the only way we’re going to find her” came a woman’s voice, I’ve never heard before.
“Who’s that?” I asked
A beautiful woman came into view, my throat tightened, who was this woman, and why was she leaning on my Hunter’s shoulder.
“Hi, I’m Phoenix Ghost” came her smooth voice, her skin was perfect, her eyes piercing, “relax doll, I’m not interested in your man, I’m married”, she held up her finger displaying a ring.
“Oh … no … I wasn’t …”
“Ha, yes you were” Crosshair chuckled
“Can we focus on what’s important, please” Hunter cut in
“Do you guys have an idea as to who wants Omega?” Phoenix Ghost asked
“You mean besides the Empire” Crosshair answered
“The Kaminoans” I answered contemplatively.
Everyone looked at me, the silence grew, “What do you mean, cyare?” Hunter inquired.
“That actually would make sense” responded Crosshair
I simply nodded, “Somebody wants to fill us in?” Asked Echo
“The Empire, specifically Admiral Rampart, didn’t want to bring you guys in, they wanted you all eliminated except for Omega…” Crosshair began
“… but” I interjected, “if Omega is brought in by the Empire, then there would be no use for the Kaminoans, since the Empire would have all the answers once they ran a deep scan on Omega.”
“What answers are they looking for?” Phoenix Ghost inquired
“How to make an elite clone, one …” I let out a sigh, “one who is force sensitive”
“WHAT!” Came the answer not just through the comm, but from Lurwa and Crosshair.
“Excuse me, but who else is there with you?” Questioned Tech
“It’s one of my Elite Squad, they wanted to escape the Empire too”
“Yeah sorry, everyone meet Lurwa Zelga, formerly ES-03” I added
“Actually, I was formerly ES-02” Lurwa said
“Oh, sorry about that”
“Why is she tied up?” Hunter asked
“We don’t know if we can trust her” answered Crosshair
“Then why are you allowing her to listen in?” Hunter was getting annoyed, “You know what it doesn’t matter! What are we going to do about Omega?”
“Babe, it’s okay, we’ll figure it out.”
“No, it’s not okay.  I FAILED HER!”
Everyone went silent, “Crosshair, I’m going to take the comm in the back okay, can you transfer it to the other room?”
Crosshair nodded, “Hunter, can you go to a private comm?”
*sigh* “Fine”
Hunter got up and moved, and went into the bunk room of the ship, Hunter’s face popped up on the private comm, “Alright babe, talk to me”
“There’s nothing to talk about”
“Oh I think there’s plenty to talk about, just start at the beginning, from after escaping the explosion of the engine”
Hunter ran a hand over his face, “Omega and I were almost cornered by the Empire, I really thought we were done for, but then we managed to find cover and make our way to the ship.  When we entered the hangar there was nothing but stormtrooper bodies lying everywhere.  I knew at that moment something wasn’t right.  Rather than waiting for the guys to show up, Omega and I walked in.  I should’ve … I should have made her wait, made her hide until I knew it was all clear.  I was so stupid! I put her needlessly in danger.  All my training, all my ability and I failed her.”
“You keep saying you failed her, but you still haven’t told me how?  Come on babe, talk”
“As we walked further in, a bounty hunter stepped out of the Marauder.  I don’t know who he was, he was a Duros with a ridiculous hat, blue skin, some sort of tubing coming out of his face.  His voice was dark and determined.  He didn’t look that dangerous, I mean he looked dangerous, but I didn’t think he … I thought I …
Bounty Hunter: I’ve taken down so many clones over the years.  Once you figure out one, the rest are easy.
Hunter: You’re in for a surprise
Bounty Hunter: I doubt that
Omega: He’s a bounty hunter
Bounty Hunter: Ain’t you smart, kid's got it all figured out
Droid: You’re in trouble now
Hunter: Who hired you?
Bounty Hunter: Son, that's confidential information.  Now hand her over.
Hunter: She’s with us, she’s not going anywhere
Bounty Hunter: That’s unfortunate, for you.
Next thing, I know, I've woken up to Wrecker, asking where Omega is.  He’s freaking out.  Tech is wondering what happened.  They’re trying to get me to the ship.  There’s a pain in my chest, that’s making it difficult for me to breathe.  Don’t you see, I failed her!  I’m just like all those other clones that were bested by him.  I wasn’t … I wasn’t good enough.  I wasn’t … I wasn’t strong enough.  I … I failed her cyare.  S-she was like a daughter to me, and I … I couldn’t … I couldn’t protect her.”  Hunter’s tears were clearly seen through the holo, I wanted nothing more than to be by his side, reach out and wipe the tears.
“Babe, look at me”
His head was in his hands, as he shook his head.
“Look at me, right now”
Hunter dropped his hands and looked me in the eye.
“This guy, this bounty hunter, he may have been faster than you.  But that’s because he’s probably had numerous of these duels, or at the least has been doing this for a ridiculously long time.  Not to mention, you did survive a ridiculous assault from the Empire.  It’s not your fault love.  It’s the Empire’s fault.  It’s this universe’s fault.  It’s the fault of the Kaminoans who put a stupid chip in every clone, that made them turn against the Jedi.  It’s not your fault.  You did your best to save her, and protect her.  We’re going to get her back.”
“How?  We don’t even know where he took her.”
“Maybe we can get help, we can figure all this out.  We just have to breathe.  We’re going to get her back.  We’re going to get your daughter back.  Our … daughter back, Hunter.”
Hunter let out a sigh, “You know cyar’ika, I didn’t think it possible to love you anymore than I do right now”
“I love you too”
- - - - - - - -
“So… that’s the Medic?”
“Phoenix…”
“What? I’m just asking a question ner riduur”
“Mmhmm”
I looked over to Echo and mouth a ‘no’, he looked at me and mouthed ‘no’ back.  I shrugged.
“How are we going to find Omega?” Wrecker asked
“I have an idea on that front”
“What do you got, Phoenix?” asked Crosshair from the comm
“I have some bounty hunter contacts, I think I know who it could be that took Omega, but I got make a few calls”
“Like you need the bunk room, kind of calls?” Asked Fives
“No, vod.  Not that kind of call.  A regular good old fashioned comm call”
“Alright, well we’re almost at the rendezvous point, we’ll comm you guys when we land” Crosshair offered
“Welcome back Crosshair” Wrecker said
“Good to be back”
Crosshair was gone in an instant, “Excuse me, riduur”, I leaned over Echo, and pressed the numbers for a comm link, “You know we still haven’t had our break” Echo whispered in my ear, I couldn’t help but grin.  “I think that’s going to have to wait, ner kar’ta.”
“Fine, but I say once everyone is safe, you and I take off somewhere no one will find us.”
I just looked at him, smirking.
“Whatcha guys talking about?” Fives asked
Echo rolled his eyes at his brother, I couldn’t help but laugh, “Huh, watcha talking about?” He asked, poking Echo in the shoulder, “How we should space you, Fives?” Echo answered.
“What?! What did I do?” He asked hurt
“Okay boys, find your happy places” Tech said
Echo simply looked at me, wiggling his eyebrows.  I stood straighter, hiding the blush creeping up my face.
“Your face is getting red, Ghost” Tech noticed
“Yes, thank you Tech”
“Why is your face getting red?” He inquired
“How are you this smart, and this stupid?” Fives asked
“Fives!” I shouted “Be nice, and apologize, that was rude!”
“Ha, I like you” Wrecker said, “You know how to control these di’kut”
“Wrecker, don’t make me force you to apologize too”
“Ow!” Fives screamed, I turned to face Fives, “What happened?”
“Tech flicked me” he answered
“He deserved it” Tech defended
“Don’t make me get the get-along shirt, and force you guys to get in it.”
“Get a ‘what shirt’?” Tech asked
“It’s a big shirt, that the two of you have to wear until you get along” explained Echo
“Uh … hello?” Came Sugi’s voice
“Hi Sugi”
“Gorgeous! How are you?”
“Ki ca?” (Who that?)
“It’s Gorgeous, Embo”
“Ah, Gorgeous! Bungour.” (Hello)
“Hi Embo, nice to see you”
“Vus volez êtr ma feme?” (Want to be my wife?)
“Ha, thanks Embo, but I’m married.” I held my ring finger up to show him I noticed Echo’s hand tightening on the controls, “Besides, aren’t you with Sugi?”
“Ne fat pasde mal demande”(Doesn’t hurt ask)
I simply shake my head, “Maybe you guys can help us, my friend’s daughter was kidnapped, I’m very fond of her, she's like a niece to me.”
“Gorgeous, I’m so sorry to hear that, how can we help?” Sugi asked
“Well, you guys know a lot of bounty hunters, if I describe the guy do you think you might know who he is?”
“Neput pas fair dema” (Can’t hurt)
“My friend said he was a Duros, blue skin, had a deep voice, wore a ridiculous hat”
“Wait… you said hat?” Sugi asked
“Yeah”
“Did he have tubes coming out of his face?”
“Yeah”
“It could be Cad Bane”
“Cela pourat êtrun problèm” (This could be a problem)
“Why is it a problem?”
“Gorgeous …”
“What?  Tell me.”
“Il des meileur” (He’s the best)
“Kriff! How good?”
“Let’s say he takes on extremely difficult jobs.  The ones that no one in their right mind would take.”
“Ki est ton ami?” (Who’s your friend?)
“I can’t say.  Do you know where we can find him?  Or if we can intercept him?”
“Well usually … “
“Attende” (Wait)
“What is it, Embo?”
“Il est la” (He’s here)
“Where?”
“Jabba’s Palace” Sugi answered
“Keep him there.  We’ll be there as soon as we can.”
“What’s in it for us if we do?” Sugi asked
“I’ll owe you one?”
“Et moi?” (What about me?)
“I’ll owe you one too”
“How about I owe him one.” Echo answered
“Ki ca?” (Who that?)
“My husband”
“Ha, jalux?” (Jealous?)
“Anyways, keep him busy, and we’ll both owe you guys.”
“Not a problem, Gorgeous.”
“Thanks you guys, see you in a few”
The comm ended, “How is that you stayed single all this time?” Fives asked
I looked at him, “Fives…”
“What, I’m serious, the amount of people that hit on you, while you were working the cantina, even before you left the GAR” I looked over to Echo, his knuckles were white, I could see the veins on his hand.
“Echo, my dear, you need to relax”
“I’m changing our heading to Tatooine, I’ve relayed the message to Crosshair” Tech interrupted.
“I’m going to go tell Hunter” I looked over to Fives and mouthed ‘behave’, he just gave me a smirk.  I leaned over to Echo and whispered, “Ignore Fives.  You’re the only one for me”, I kissed him on his cheek.  His grip on the control loosened, and he let out a sigh, “I know, I just …”
“I know, Echo.  It’s okay” I kissed him once more on the cheek.
I turned to walk out, and glared at Fives again, mouthing ‘Seriously, behave’.  Fives raised his hands in surrender.
- - - - - - - -
“Hunter” I called knocking on the bunk door.
“Come in”
I walked in, the call with Kambe long ended, his hands holding his head, I could tell he was crying, “You ok?”
“I don’t want to talk about it, what do you want?”
“We found Cad Bane”
“Who?”
“The bounty hunter who took Omega”
He shot straight up, his eyes were full of anger and hatred, “Where?”
“Tatooine”
“How?” His anger was building, I could see his fists were clenched by his side, he looked ready to strike.
“I have some friends that know him, we were talking when he walked into the Palace”
“Who’s Palace?”
“Jabba’s”
“Do you think he’s the one who wants Omega?”
“No.  More likely, it’s a layover till he meets his contact.”
He didn’t say anything, I could feel his rage boiling over, “Hunter…”
“What!” I raised my hands and backed away.  I just looked down at the ground and turned to walk away.
“Wait!” Hunter called, I stopped and turned, “I’m sorry, it’s just …”
“I know”
“How could you?”
I let out a sigh, “Have a seat” I motioned to the bunk behind him, “Echo didn’t tell you how we met, did he?”
Hunter shook his head, “It was just after he joined the 501st …
- - - - - - - -
“I can’t wait to get out there, do Hevy proud” Fives said
“I think he would be proud of us, no matter what we did” Echo responded
“Of course, you would believe that”
“Men!”
“Captain Rex, Sir!” They both stood and saluted the Captain, I stood behind the Captain of the 501st, looking at these two fresh faces.  Fives glanced over to me, and did a quick once over, I couldn’t help but smirk, cheeky bastard.  Echo gave me a side look, but kept his eyes on the Captain.
“At ease boys, I have a special mission for the both of you.  This is Agent Halcyon, she has been tasked with a special mission and needs two good men to go with her.  I am trusting that you both will be good soldiers and show Agent Halcyon what it means to be part of the 501st!”
“Sir, yes Sir!” They both echoed.
“Agent Halcyon” he stretched out his hand and shook mine
“Captain Rex, always a pleasure” I winked at him, he smirked and walked away.
“Alright guys, relax.”
“Thank you, Agent Halcyon” chimed Echo
“First, it’s just Halcyon, don’t use titles.  What are your boys' names?”
“I’m Fives, that’s Echo.  I’m the one whose name you'll never forget to scream out.”  Fives winked, Echo rolled his eyes at his brother.
“Oh really?” I stepped up to Fives, my face an inch from his, he took a noticeable swallow, “Tell me Fives, exactly how will I not forget you?”
“Um… I …”
“Listen here trooper! You think you’re the first one who’s tried to get into my pants?”
“Uh…”
“Better man than you have tried, and do you know how many have succeeded?”
“Um…”
“None.  So take your ego, your misogyny, your desire to try to accumulate notches on your belt, and shove it! Is that understood?”
“Yes, ma’am”
“Good!” I stepped back, “Now that we have that straightened out, you both are going to follow me.  First we need to get you guys some civilian clothing, secondly I need to go over the mission with the both of you.  Now unless Echo here has any comment he would like to make?”
“No, ma’am”
“Oh one more thing, stop calling me ma’am.  It’s Halcyon.”
- - - - - - - - - -
“Is the plan clear?”
“I don’t understand, why are they trying to kidnap Senator Orn Free Taa’s daughter?” Echo asked
“He has the deciding vote on a bill in the senate, it’s not unusual for Senators and their families to be threatened.  Problem is we don’t know who exactly is threatening him, whether it’s the opposition of the bill, the separatist, or someone who has a personal vendetta against him.  It’s no secret that not all his people are happy he’s their representative.”
“Do we have to guard her in her house?  Wouldn’t it be better if we take her from there?” Fives asked
“Normally, I would say yes.  For me, I personally would rather keep her out of public view, but unfortunately that’s not possible.”
“Why’s that?” Inquired Echo
“She’s pregnant.  The stress of the constant danger of being on the move, could endanger the baby.  So while you guys maintain eyes on the perimeter I’ll be her personal bodyguard.”
“No offence Halcyon, but you’re just one person.”
“With you two, that makes three.  I think the odds are in our favour.  Plus, you don’t get to be the best, by being weak” I smirked at Fives, “If you guys want, we can spar a few rounds before we land on Ryloth, and I can prove how good I am.”
“Not necessary, Halcyon, Fives’ just an idiot.”
“Ha, spoken like a true brother.  Let me guess, you guys are batchmates.”
“Yeah we are” Fives answered, “How did you know?”
“When you're around enough clones, you can tell.  Alright you two, get all the equipment you need, once we leave the Resolute, we’ll be on our own.  I’d rather you guys take more than what we need, and have too much, then not enough.  Is that clear?”
“Yes, ma’am” they both saluted.  I just shook my head, “Sorry, Halcyon.”
“That’s okay, meet me at the ship at 0630”
- - - - - - - -
“Madam Oofatfeli” I bowed before Senator Orn Free Taa’s daughter.
“Halcyon, it’s been too long,” she stepped forward and hugged me.  Oofatfeli was one of the most beautiful women, her skin was an iridescent blue, it was a very rare and special Twi’lek colour.  Her husband passed away during Ryloth’s occupation, leaving her a widow and a child to raise on her own.
“You’re positively glowing”
“Oh! Feel! The baby just kicked.  Kid’s going to be just as strong as Mirtilo was.”
I placed my hand on her bump, as she guided me to where the child was kicking, I couldn’t help the smile that appeared on my face.  “Mirtilo would have been such a proud father.  I have no doubt about that.”
Fives and Echo seemed uncomfortable, quietly I asked “Oofatfeli, would you mind if they…” I motioned my head to them.  She smiled that radiating beautiful smile, “Not at all” she whispered back.
“Fives, Echo, come here”
They stepped closer, I guided their hands to where the baby had been kicking, “I don’t understand” Echo said.
“Just wait” Oofatfeli answered, and just like that, the baby started kicking again.
“What was that?” Fives asked confused
“That’s the baby, it’s kicking” I answered
“That … that’s the baby?” Fives was mesmerized, “I never …”
“It’s amazing! Right?  To know that life has been created, and being cared for, by an amazingly, devoted mother.”
“See this is why you and I are friends, Halcyon.  You offer up praises like their nothing.”
“Hey if I’m the aunt and godmother of this child, trust me, I’ll offer up all the praises I can muster” I chuckled, “Alright boys, enough lollygagging, time to get to work.  I want every exit checked, examine the perimeter and tell me what areas, we’re vulnerable.  I want a backup hiding place.  I want a handful of weapons and explosives stored in the two hiding places.  I also want some explosives armed in the areas we won’t be able to cover.  Nothing too damaging, just enough to knock a perpetrator out.  Finally I want weapons hidden throughout the house, under tables, couches, maybe in some of the cabinets.  I want to fortify our last resort position.  If we need to hold them off, I want to know we can do it until backup arrives.  Understood?”
“Yes, Halcyon” answered Echo
“Great.  Any questions?”
“Just one?”
“What is it, Echo?”
“Can I feel the baby kick one more time?” I just looked at this man, this handsome man, so different from his brother, and at that moment he captured my heart.  He was so sweet, tender and caring, a soldier through and through, but went weak in the knees for a baby.
“Ha, sure, give me your hand Echo” Oofatfeli said, after a few moments, Echo’s smile radiated pure joy.  I couldn’t hide the smirk on my face, or the adoration in my eyes watching him, he glanced over to me, and smiled sweetly.  A blush started to form on his face.
“Ahem!” Fives cleared his throat
“Right, time to go” Echo said
Both boys left, “So… Echo?” Oofatfeli quirked an eyebrow at me.
“What about him?” I asked while grabbing my bag and beginning to set up my equipment, my trusty DC-15LE rifle, nicknamed Peacekeeper, it was an inside joke with myself, how far I went from being a Jedi Knight, an actual keeper of the peace.  She was my partner in crime.
“You know what?  I saw that look between you two.”
“He was being sweet with the baby, that’s the only look you saw.”
The rifle now strapped to my back, I began placing all my other DC-17 hand blasters, in strategic easy to grab locations.  “Yeah, but that’s not what I felt” Oofatfeli continued following me around.
“There was nothing to feel”
“Come on, just because you may have trained as a Jedi, doesn’t mean you can’t connect with someone.  It might even be good for you.”
“Oofatfeli, I love you like a sister, but you are way off base.  There is nothing between Echo and me, especially since I just met him, what, a few days, like three days ago.”
“When Mirtilo and I first met, in the span of an hour we knew we were meant to be.”
“That’s different”
“How is that different?”
“You look like you, and I …” I motioned to my whole body, I let out a sigh, “… I’m not the kind of girl, guys go for.  A one-night stand, sure they’re quick to try to get in my pants, but a relationship…” I shook my head.
“Is that why you still haven’t been with anyone?  You want a relationship and not a one-night stand?”
“I don’t know what I want, and until I do, it’s better if I’m alone.”
“Maybe you need to stop listening with your head, and listen to your heart.  Cause from what I saw, there was more there in that look, then just a one-night stand.”
“Alright, we’re done with this conversation.”
“Ha, that’s what you think.  But we can be done for now.  I need to use the fresher, I swear this kid thinks my bladder is a bouncy ball.”
I laughed, “Halcyon” came Echo’s voice, “Yes, Echo?”
“The perimeter is secure, we’re coming back in.”
“Okay.” I turned to put away my bag, when I heard, “Dude you got it bad for her” came Fives voice.
“No, I don’t.”
“Listen, I don’t blame you, she’s hot.”
“We all know what you think of her”
“Did I come across a bit too aggressive? Maybe.  Do I regret it? Not at all.”
“You're impossible.”
“Just admit, you like her.”
“Fives, shut up!”
“Hey I wasn’t imagining the look you gave her, or that smile vod.”
“I … uh…”
“You do like her!”
“Fives, she’s going to hear you?”
“She already has” I answered, “Next time, make sure to turn off your comm.”
I heard a beep and that was the end of that conversation.
- - - - - - -
Oofatfeli was sleeping in her room, the two boys were resting in the guest room, while I kept watch.  I noticed a shadow on the floor, walking along the roof.   I chimed the boys, and walked to Oofatfeli’s room.
Fives and Echo emerged in no time, “What’s the problem?” Fives asked.
“There’s someone on the roof.  You two guard Oofatfeli, I’m gonna wake her up, I want you both to take her to room A, while I check it out.”
“Halcyon…”
“This isn’t up for discussion, Echo.  You guys are here as the last line of defence if I fail, get it!”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
I opened the door quietly, thank goodness we made sure to cover the windows with a heavy curtain.  I nudged her awake. I put my finger to my lips, and escorted her into the hallways, into Fives and Echos waiting arms, “Go with them.”  She looked scared, “Sis?” Her eyes were wide and kept darting everywhere,
“Hey, look at me.  I’m not going to let anything happen to you, okay?  I’m going to take care of it.  Fives and Echo are the best, they’ll protect you, okay.”
She simply nodded, I motioned with my head for Fives and Echo to take her to the room.  Once I knew they were locked and secure, I went to the window to see if I could see where the shadow was, it was just on the roof, closest to the east window.  I climbed up the ladder to the attic, when I heard a shift on the roof, they headed towards Oofatfeli’s room.  I climbed back down the ladder quietly, and heard them walking along the wall of the house.  I waited in her room, with my DC-17 blaster in hand.  I closed my eyes, allowing the force to calm me, steadying my hand.
I heard a slight scrape on the window, and then a hand pushed aside the curtain. I grabbed the hand, dragging the person through the window, glass erupting everywhere and flung them in the room, throwing them against the wall.  I stunned the man lying on the ground looking at me, he was out in a matter of seconds.  I looked outside to see another shadow, however knowing the jig was up, they ran to the south side of the house.  I didn’t hesitate and exited the house, through the kitchen door on the west, I heard the perpetrator land on the gravel outside the house, and ran after them, within seconds, they were in front of me.  I hurled myself at their feet, knocking them down.
I stood grabbing Peacekeeper off my back, and aimed my rifle at the man’s head while he laid on the ground, “Go ahead, make a move”.  The man before me raised his hand. “On your knees” once he was kneeling before me, I threw the cuffs I had in my back pocket at him.
Cuffed, I brought him back to the house.  I had him sit in the dining room, tying him to the chair, separating his hands and tying each arm to the arm of the chair.  I then tied his legs to the leg chair.  Once I knew he was secure, I walked back to Oofatfeli’s room and dragged the man over to the dining room, tying him up the same way.  I double checked all their pockets, removing any weapons I could find.
“Fives, Echo?” I yelled.
I heard Fives yell back, “We clear?”
“So far, I only found these two”, I answered, hearing Fives coming up behind me in the dining room.  He looked from me to the two men sitting before me.  One unconscious and the other tied and gagged.
“Okay, so I’m never getting on your bad side”
I laughed, “Glad to hear it.”
I stepped up beside him, keeping my voice low, “Take Oofatfeli to the guest room, there’s glass everywhere in her room, I also want you to call the Senator’s guard, find out how they let these two threw.”
Fives nodded and walked away.
“Now, you’re going to tell me who hired you and why you’re here.”
- - - - - - -
“I don’t understand?”
“It appears Mirtilo didn’t die in the occupation, as everyone thought.”
“No.  He died.  I know he died.”
“Did you see a body?”
“It was the occupation, people disappeared, we were lucky if we found a body.”
“Well, I have to go with what they told me.”
“Maybe he’s lying” offered Echo
“It’s possible, but he would have to be quite strong to resist my interrogations.”
“What does that mean?” Fives asked
“Not the time” I offered, “Oofatfeli, can you think of any reason why Mirtilo would be doing this?”
She shook her head, tears welling up.  I looked at Fives and Echo, “Could you guys give us a minute?”  They both nodded, I put my arms around her as she leaned into my shoulder crying, I rubbed soothing circles on her back, when I felt eyes watching us, I looked up to see Echo watching me.  My heart was breaking for her, to know the man she loved was the one behind the threat on her life, I couldn’t help but have tears well up in my eyes.  Echo looked into my eyes with determination, and closed the door.  I don’t know why, I didn’t yell at him to leave, but that look of determination filled me with a sense of purpose.  I wasn’t going to let Mirtilo hurt her, or the baby.
“Sweetie, do you think you can talk now? We’re alone.”
“I know why.”
“Why is he doing this?”
“He never agreed with my father’s political views, he believed Ryloth should be completely free, not belonging to any system.  The bill on the floor is to increase the Republic’s presence on Ryloth, to make sure the Separatist do not come back.  If Mirtilo was alive, he would have fought my father tooth and nail against the bill.  Mirtilo was afraid the Republic could be corrupted and become a dictatorship, ruling with an iron fist over the people of Ryloth.  But to go so far as to threaten me or our unborn child…” She raised herself and shook her head.
“Does he feel that your father would back down if something happened to either of you?”
“My father prides himself on his people and family.  If he couldn’t protect his family, he would lose the support of the people on Ryloth, and with it his wealth and status.”
I nodded, “What do you want to do?”
Oofatfeli looked at me shocked, “What do you mean?”
“My dear, this is your husband.  If you want to stay, I will defend you till my last dying breath, but that could mean the end of your husband’s life too.  If you want to leave, we can go to Coruscant and bring the matter to your father fully, maybe get him to back off from the bill.  At least that will guarantee the safety of you and your baby.  But this is your life and your baby’s, I will not tell you what to do.”
She nodded, “I think we should stay.  If I flee, I’m caving into his demands, he may be my husband, but he’s wrong.  Every action he has taken has been the wrong one.  Why did he hide from me?  Why didn’t he return home?  I will not cower from him.”
I nodded, she was right, I knew Mirtilo, regardless of his views, he would never harm them.  There had to be another explanation.
“Okay, then, we’re going to reinforce everything.  I want you to stay in Room A at night.  That way it can be a stronger defence point.  We won’t have to worry about getting to you to bring you to the safety of the room.  I’m also going to get you to carry a blaster the entire time, in case we’re incapacitated.  Finally, we’re going to get a midwife here, just in case you go into labour.  I want you to think of one that you trust, that you know will defend you and protect the little one.”
Oofatfeli nodded, “For now though, my dear sister” I patted her shoulder, “I want you to get some rest, while I deal with those two men out there. Just lay back down.  I’ll have Fives sit here with you, keeping watch, is that okay?”
“Yeah, but instead of Fives, can I have Echo”
I looked at her quizzically, “Sure, any specific reason?”
“I feel he’ll be calmer if something happens with the baby.”
I nodded, “Yeah, I think so too.  Not a problem.” I helped her lay down on the bed, and approached Echo, who was standing outside the door.
“Are you okay Halcyon?”
I ran my hand over my face, “Honestly, Echo, I don’t know.  Mirtilo was like a brother to me, when we thought we lost him, it … it was hard, you know.”
“Yeah, when we lost Hevy, Droidbait, and Cutup, it was … it’s still hard, I miss them.”
I nodded, “Listen, can you stay in the room with her?”
“Sure, but why me?”
“She thinks you’ll be calmer should something happen with the baby”
Echo nodded, “I don’t blame her” he chuckled, looking over at Fives.
“Thanks” I patted his upper arm, I was about to walk away, when Echo grabbed my hand, “Halcyon?”
I turned to look at him, “Yeah, Echo?”
“I’m sorry about earlier, the comm issue.  It was unprofessional and disrespectful of you.  I …” he looked to the floor, still holding my hand against his arm, “… I hope you can forgive me.”
“Echo, there’s nothing to forgive.  If anything I’m the one who should be apologizing” Echo looked into my eyes, questioning, “I should have told you right away, that I could hear Fives asking you the question.  But I guess…” I looked away, the blush rising, maker! I hate it when Oofatfeli’s right.
“You guess?” He stepped closer, moving my hand to hold in his left hand, while his right forefinger and thumb purchased on my chin, turning my head so he could look into my eyes, “I guess I just wanted to know the answer.”
Now he was the one blushing, “Oh!”
“Yeah” I leaned forward, he inched his face forward, less than a hair’s breadth away.
“Ahem!”
Realizing how close we were, the fact his hand was still holding my face, at some point my left hand rested on his right wrist, I don't remember when that happened, while our other hand was holding each other.  I pulled back quite quickly, I don’t know what happened.
“Sorry” I muttered
“No.. it was my fault” Echo sighed.
“I have to…” I motioned towards the other way.
“Yeah, I need to …” Echo motioned to the guest room.  We looked at each other one last time and walked away as quickly as our feet could carry us, with Fives standing there smirking, watching us move away from each other as fast as possible.
“Not interested, my ass!” I heard Fives mumble.
“Hey Halcyon”
“Yes, Fives” I answered as I made my way to the dining room, “I’m sure if you ask Echo out, he’ll say yes.”
“Not the time Fives”
“Ha, yeah right!”
“Did the Senator’s guards show up?”
“Yeah they did, they’re with the men in the dining room.”
- - - - - -
“Care to explain how these men breached your security?” I questioned the head guard, with my arms crossed under my chest.
“Agent, I apologize.  I don’t know what happened.”
“Well let me tell you what is going to happen, from now on, I want double the guards, no, triple.  I want ID checks on all the guards stationed.  I want background checks done.  No visitors in or out of this place.”
“Agent that’s not necessary”
“Oh really?” I questioned motioning to the two men tied to the chairs in the dining room.
“Point taken.”
“Finally, I want an investigative team to search for Mirtilo, I want an answer, a lead, or even a suggestion by the time the sun rises, in the next 6 hours.  If I don’t have any of that, I will contact the Chancellor and the Senator myself, and we’ll see how things turn out for you.” I leaned forward, anger dripping from each word.
“Agent…”
“Did I stutter?”
The head guard didn’t answer, “Fives, did I stutter or make myself unclear in any way?”
“No, Agent.  You were very clear.”
“Then I see no reason why you four men should be standing in front of me still, remove these men, arrest them and bring me a lead by the time the sun is up, or you will see a side of me, you wish never to see!  Do I make myself clear!”
“Yes, Agent” the head guard seethed, “very clear”.
“Good.  Get out of my face.”
The men untied the two intruders, and departed from the house.  The house was quiet now, all the lights were on.  I turned to face Fives.
“Fives”
“Yeah”
“I’m going to contact the Chancellor and the Senator now.  I don’t trust that man.”
“I agree, there’s something off about him.”
“Can you contact Rex, while I’m talking to the Chancellor and see if he can lend us a few more men.  I have a feeling this was a trial run.”
“Not a problem, I’ll do it right now.”
- - - - - -
“This is troubling Agent” the Chancellor’s concern was clearly evident.
“You really believe Mirtilo is alive?” Asked the Senator
“I don’t know, it could be they are using his name as a martyr for the cause.  For him to try and endanger the life of his wife and unborn child, I can’t see him doing that, no matter his political view.”
“I agree” concurred the Senator
“Tell us what you need, Agent,” the Chancellor inquired.
“I would like some extra men, I have a feeling they’ll be back in stronger numbers.  I also would like to request a Jedi to investigate this so-called rumour.  I do not believe the Head Guard is to be trusted.”
“Very well, since the 501st are already aware of the situation, we will redeploy General Skywalker to you, along with a garrison of his men.”
“Thank you, Chancellor” I bowed before the man, “Senator, believe me when I say I will protect Oofatfeli till my dying breath.”
“I know my dear, I never doubted that.”
I bowed to both men, and ended the transmission.
“Rex said he’s getting his men together, and they’ll be here by the morning, they were on their way back from a mission.”
“Remind me to buy Rex a drink at 79’s when we’re back on Coruscant.”
“I think you’ll have to buy everyone a drink”
“That’s fine, my credits are good” I smirked
“And, I’m sure Echo, would be all too happy to have a drink with you” I looked at him trying to hide the blush creeping up, as my lips tried to hide the smile appearing.
“You’re the worst, you know that!”
“Hey, I want to see you two get together, is that so terrible?”
“Really, because not that long ago, you were trying to get into my pants.”
“Yeah, but you know that was all talk.”
“You’re like the brother I never wanted, you know that.”
Fives beamed from ear to ear, “You know what we call brothers and sisters in Mando’a?”
I shook my head ‘no’, “Vod, so vod’ika, I will be happy to be your vod.”
“What does that word mean, v-vod’ika?”
“Little sister”
“Ha, I think I’m older than you.”
“It’s the sentiment more than anything else”
“Alright, vod.  I’m gonna check on Oofatfeli”
“Don’t you mean Echo?”
“Shut up!”
- - - - - - -
I opened the door slightly, to peer in, and noticed Echo had his blaster resting on his lap, his feet up on the other bed, his eyes closed.  Oofatfeli rested peacefully, I came up and placed a hand on his shoulder, he startled himself awake, thankfully quiet enough that Oofatfeli didn’t hear.  I motioned for him to follow me out.
I kept my voice low “We contacted the Chancellor and the Senator, they’re sending backup.  General Skywalker and a garrison of your unit, will be coming to investigate and protect.”
“Do you think we’re in trouble?”
“I think Mirtilo is dead, and they’re using his name as a way to justify their actions.  I think they don’t care about her or the baby, they just want to hurt the Senator.”
“You’re worried”
“Yeah I am.  I don’t have family, they’re my family” I motioned my head to where Oofatfeli lay sleeping.
“Well you have us now too” Echo grabbed my hand, rubbing circles on the back.
“Ha, yeah, I sort of adopted Fives as my brother” I chuckled, holding his hand tighter.
“What about me?”
“What about you?” I asked looking into his eyes
He stepped forward, moving my hair off my face, “What am I to you?”
“I … um…” I moved closer, my free hand resting on his chest, “Echo, I’m not good at this… I’ve never … I haven’t felt this way before.”
“Neither have I” he leaned in and closed the distance, his kiss was sweet, just like him.  His hand moved to the back of my neck pulling me in, deepening the kiss, while his other hand moved to my lower back pressing me flush against him.  The kiss lasted for what felt like eons, in that moment we said everything we needed to say.  We pulled back eventually when we needed to breathe again, his forehead resting against mine, “She’s your family, and I’ll protect her like she’s mine.  We won’t let anything happen to them.  I promise.”
“Echo, you can’t promise what the future hasn’t written”, I pulled back to look at him, “However, I appreciate the sentiment.”  I smiled and pecked his lips.
“I could get use to this”
“Yeah, me too.  Alright, we gotta focus.  I have no doubt they'll be back tonight.  I may have forced their hand.”
“What do you mean?”
“I told them if they didn’t provide me with answers in the morning I was going to call the Chancellor.”
“But you already called the Chancellor”
“Yeah, because I don’t trust them.  Something’s going on.  The 501st should be here in a matter of hours, if not sooner.”
“You’re amazing, mesh’la. I’ll follow you anywhere.”
“You’ll have to tell me later what that means.  Get to your position, I’ll stay with her.”
He nodded and walked away, I knew at that moment he was my future, whatever may happen, he was it, for me.
- - - - - - -
I looked down at the ring on my finger, moving it back and forth.  After everything Echo and I have been through, I had no doubt the Force brought us back together.
“What happened next?” Asked Hunter.
“Oh, right!”
- - - - - - - -
*Beep, beep* I pressed the button on my comm, “Fives, what is it?”
“We got movement.”
“Where?”
“South-west side of the house”
“How many?”
“Hard to say, maybe about 20”
“Kriff!”
“Language” came Oofatfeli’s sleepy voice,  I looked up to see her sleepiness ebb, when she the look on my face, “They’re back aren’t they?”
I nodded, “Time to get you to Room A”
“What about the midwife?” She asked, rising from the bed, I held her hand and guided her to Room A, “No time for that now, I’m afraid.  I have an idea.”
“Do either of you guys know how to deliver a baby?”
“Echo does” Fives answered
“It was basic med training.”
“Wait, you're a medic?” I asked
“No, but at least one trooper in each squad needed to know basic med until the medics arrived.”
“Okay, then you’re going to stay with Oofatfeli in Room A”
“Halcyon …”
“Echo, please! She’s my sister.”
“Alright, I’ll meet you at Room A”
The comm turned off, I made sure my comm was off as well.
“So… what did I miss?”
“Not the time”
“Come on? Humour me, get my mind off of what’s happening.”
“Fine, we kissed”
“Eeek!”
“You’re hopeless”
“Actually I’m hopeful.”
I rolled my eyes at her. Echo was waiting for us in the room by the time we showed up.  We situated her on the cot in the room.  I leaned down and kissed her forehead.
“Be careful, sis”
“I will, Oofatfeli” I placed my hand on her shoulder, she grasped it, as I pulled away.
“Look after her” I whispered to Echo
“I will” he grabbed my hand, “You better come back in one piece.”
“I promise, Echo.  If they take a shot at me, they better aim true, or I’m coming for them.”
He chuckled, “My badass Agent”, he leaned and pecked my cheek, I cupped his cheek, and pecked his lips.  I squeezed his hand once, and walked out.  Echo locked the door behind me.
“Alright Fives, where are they? Echo, can you hear us?”
“Yup”
“Halcyon, they’re by the hedges, edge of the property.”
“Explosives ready?”
“Just say the word.”
I sat in the hallway upstairs, with the window that faced west, all the lights had remained off, after the Senator’s Guard left the house with the two men.  I propped Peacekeeper against the windowsill, thankfully the moon wasn’t out, so there wouldn’t be any reflection.  I looked through my scope.
“Alright Fives, on my count of four, ready?”
“Ready.”
I breathed out, steadying my breaths, “Four … three … two … one … now!”
The explosives went off, in the chaos, I took out six men all head shots, five of the men died in the explosives being thrown clear.  Two of the men lost a limb and were unable to fight.  Leaving seven for Fives and I to engage.  I took down two more that came closer to the house.  Fives was able to get two as well.  Leaving three.  I heard a window break on the opposite side of the house.
“Fives we got intruders on the East, you handle the remaining three on the West, and I’ll head to the east.”
“Copy”
I shouldered Peacekeeper and flew down the stairs to the dining room, where I heard the windows breaking.  As I was heading down the stairs, I saw flashes of red bolts flying towards me, I grabbed my DC-17s and double barrelled it.  I took down three of the intruders in a matter of seconds as I slid down the banister.   I tucked and rolled once my feet hit the floor, taking out two more, when I righted up again.
I crouched down behind the dining table, hearing the three remaining men that had entered the house.
“Where is she?” The first assailant asked
“I don’t know” answered another
“Find her!”
I launched over the table shooting at two of the assailants in the opposite room.  The leader took off heading to the kitchen, “Fives, I think the leader is heading back towards you”
“Copy”
I heard another window breaking this time upstairs, “Fives there are more intruders, they just broke the windows upstairs, I’m going back up.”
“Where the hell are they coming from?”
I heard a blaster shot coming from the kitchen, “Fives!”
“I’m good, the leader is down.”
“Guys, I think I got company”
“Coming, Echo. Hold on” I raced back up the stairs as fast as my legs could carry, but the blaster bolts raining down were preventing me from going up, I was pinned by the banister.  Fives came up beside me, but he couldn’t get an angle either.  I put away my blasters, “Halcyon, what do you think you’re doing!”  I closed my eyes, raised my hands, sensing the five men on the upstairs banister, I heard shouting and screaming, but I couldn’t pay attention.  I felt as my force grabbed each of those men around the throat, I squeezed and pulled them down over the banister.  Each with a broken neck as they landed on the floor below.
Fives was shocked, “How… how …”
“Not now!” I grabbed my blasters and ran up the stairs, I turned the corner and the men had broken down the door.  Echo was on his knees with a blaster to his head.  Oofatfeli was being held by the Head Guard, a blaster pointed at her belly, tears were streaming down her face.
“Stop, Jedi!”
I raised my hands, “I’m no Jedi!”
“Yeah right, and anyone can just grab people invisibly, choke them and pull them over the banister.”
“I’m not here to talk about what I am or not, let them go.”
“No! We need to make a point.  The Republic doesn’t belong on Ryloth.  Ryloth deserves to be free!”
“I agree” Oofatfeli’s face was shocked, Echo, didn’t know what to make of it.  Fives was stuttering behind me.
“You do?” The Head Guard asked.
“I do” I put my blasters in my holder
“This is some sort of Jedi trick!”
“Ugh! For the last time I’m no Jedi.”  Returning my hands back to a surrender position.
“Then what are you?”
“We’re not talking about me, we’re talking about the people of Ryloth and what's best for them, and you seem to think you know what’s best for them?”
“I do… we do” he motioned to the other two men remaining, the one holding Echo at gunpoint, and the third one pointing his gun at Fives.
“So you want to free Ryloth, want to have the Republic leave?”
“Yes!”
“Then what?”
“Then Ryloth would be free”
“Yes but then what?  You say Ryloth would be free, but then … what?  What would happen if the Separatist came back to occupy Ryloth?”
“We would fight them off”
“Really like you did when they first occupied Ryloth?  How did that work out for you?”
I could see in the other two men’s eyes their doubt beginning to form, I could also sense it through the force.
“What do you know about it?”
“I was here.  I fought on the front lines alongside Mirtilo.  We spent many nights around the campfire as soldiers talking about a free Ryloth, but you know what else we talked about?”
“What?”
“How without the Republic, Ryloth would truly be lost.  We barely held the front lines for weeks and months, but without the constant relief supplies from the Republic, from Alderaan, we wouldn’t have survived.  By the way, where were you during the occupation?”
“What?!”
I took a step forward, as I sensed the other two men’s doubt growing even more.
“Where were you?  I met all the Twi’leks who were fighting during the occupation, many of them respected me for being one of the few GAR Agents who stood beside them, fighting for supplies and relief.  Do you know what they called me?  What Mirtilo called me?”
“What?”
“Halcyon.”
“Your Halcyon” the man who had his gun pointed at Fives said.
“Yes, I’m Halcyon.  You’ve heard of me?”
“Every Twi’lek has heard of you, you never gave up, you fought beside our leaders day in, day out.  Oftentimes giving up your food and sleep to those who needed it more.  You saved my sister, when she was pinned down by droids.”
“What’s your sister’s name?”
“Don’t tell her!” Yelled the Guard.
“Aola, Aola’kopi”
“I remember her.  She’s a very brave girl.  Is that why you joined this man?  To honour your sister?”
“Yes.”
“Do you think you’re honouring her now? Holding a pregnant woman hostage, the life of her unborn child in the balance?”
The man lowered his weapon, dropping it on the floor.
“What are you doing?!” The man holding Oofatfeli screamed.
“The right thing.  For my sister.”
He kneeled on the ground, hands behind his head.  Fives raised his gun to hold the man captive.
“What about you?  Do you think you’re doing the right thing?”
“I … I …”
Echo didn’t let him finish; he grabbed his arm and flipped him over, pinning him to the ground with the man’s own blaster.
“Looks like it’s just you and me, now” I took another step towards the Head Guard holding my sister.
“Freeze, or I’ll shoot”
“You’ve seen what I can do with the Force, do you really want to test my patience?”
“No, Ryloth needs to be free!”
“I agree.  Free from tyranny, free from terrorists, free from a war that plagues the universe.  However, these are trying times, do you really think your lives will be better, right now during a war?”
“It’s not fair!”
“No, it’s not.  Now…” I closed my eyes taking a deep breath, I focused on the man, the anger boiling over, he still held her, I noticed how the grip he had on her throat tightened, she was struggling, I had to act or the baby could be hurt, “Let. Her. Go.”
He took another step down the hallway, I took a step forward, Fives close behind me.  “I won’t repeat myself again.  Considering that’s my sister, I’ve been extremely patient.  Let. Her. Go.”
I moved till I was directly in front of him, he loosened his grip on her, Oofatfeli, didn’t wait she ran straight into my arms.  I held her for a second before the blaster went off.
- - - - - - -
“She didn’t wait for me to disarm the man, she felt the grip loosen and she just went for it. I tried to scream to tell her to wait, but she took off before I had a chance to tell her no.  He saw it as his only way out to inflict pain on the Senator, on the Republic.  I held her in my arms, as I watched the life flow out of her.  The baby didn’t survive either, despite my best efforts.  I lost my family that day.  I failed them.  Despite everything, my connection to the force, my training, I wasn’t good enough, fast enough, or strong enough.  The only remaining survivors of the terrorist cell were the two that gave themselves up.  But in the end it didn’t matter.  I lost my sister and the baby.  Having to face the Senator was one of the hardest things I had to do.”
Hunter looked at me with a new understanding, “I’m so sorry, Phoenix”
I nodded, wiping a tear, “I know what it’s like to fail, to feel like you weren’t enough, that if you did one thing different, the whole outcome would have changed.  I keep thinking what if I just pushed him with the force, what if I choked him with the force, what if we didn’t stay in that house and left without giving her an option.  However, it doesn’t matter about the what-ifs.”
“Why not?”
“Can’t change the past.  No matter how much we wish things could have been different, wishing doesn’t make it so.  We have to face our actions, and do better.”
Hunter nodded.
“Hunter, what happened wasn’t your fault.  You did everything you could.  You protected Omega to the best of your ability, Cad Bane is the best bounty hunter ever.  Do you realize he only takes the jobs no one in their right mind would touch with a ten foot pole?  Do you understand, you walked away from a duel with the best in the universe!  That’s nothing to scoff at.  I watched the recording from your HUD, you were 0.1 seconds slower then him.  That’s all the difference.  0.1 second.  That’s incredible!  We know where he is.  We’re going to get Omega back.  I’m not letting another niece slip through my fingers.”
“Oofatfeli, was going to have a daughter?”
I nodded looking at the ground, “Yeah, she was going to name her after me”
“Halcyon?”
“No, my real name.  Tala, Tala Ilian.  She was going to call her Tala”
“That’s a beautiful name”
“Hence, why I don’t go by it anymore, it only reminds me of what I lost.”
*Knock, knock*
Hunter and I both wiped our eyes, “Come in” answered Hunter.
Fives walks in, noticing our faces, but not saying anything “We’ll be landing on Tatooine soon”
“Thanks, Fives”
I get up to head to the door, I nod to Hunter, an understanding passing between us that many could never understand.  In that moment, he reacted with all the emotion that had been building, he grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug.  A tight brotherly hug, “Thanks Phoenix.  It means a lot”
I pat his back returning the strength of his hug as much as possible “You’re welcome, Hunter.”
I pulled back, once his arms loosened and his hands rested on my arms, giving him a sisterly smile, “Come on, vod.  Wouldn’t want your medic to think something’s going on or my husband for that matter.”
Hunter chuckled nodding in agreement, “Or your ori’vod” added Fives.
I looked at him and rolled my eyes, “I regret ever adopting you, you know that” I answered as I walked by him, “Too late, there are no refunds or returns on this purchase” he motions to his whole body.
I walk up beside Echo, placing my hands on his shoulder, I lean forward and kiss his cheek, “I love you” I whisper in his ear.  He turns his head and pecks me on the lips, “Love you too, rid’ika.”
“Alright, Tatooine in five … four … three … two … one” Tech’s voice echoes through the cockpit, tension rising not knowing what we could possibly be facing.

A Hidden Truth
Summary - Hunter couldn’t help but notice the attachments that had been forming between Omega and his brothers over the past few days. Despite this, he couldn’t help but feel as if he had been unable to form his own bond with Omega. He doubts his true feelings until Omega appears in one of his nightmares.

Hunter knew that Omega’s avid curiosity had its pros and cons. It made it difficult to take her off of the ship since she always wanted to explore and he was worried she would get hurt, but it also meant that after a long day of exploring and curious questions, she was wiped out and ready for bed.
Cut had warned him that putting children to bed was one of the hardest parts of being a parent, but it was the easiest thing for him. Hunter partially contributed that to the fact that Wrecker had designed a room for Omega and she was always excited to sleep in her little space.
Tonight was no different than the past few days. Omega had been Tech’s little shadow today, following him around both inside and outside the ship as he made repairs. For every question she had, Tech would respond with an answer that almost always led to follow-up questions. Hunter was initially worried that Omega’s questions would slow his younger brother down but on the contrary, he got more work done with her at his side.
Hunter tried not to hover over them too much, but he couldn’t help but observe his brother’s soft side for Omega. Tech was always reluctant to accept help from the others when it came to repairs, even when he desperately needed it. Seeing the soft smiles he’d send Omega when she asked a particularly good question or when he would let her tighten the last screw on a project made Hunter realize just how attached Omega was getting to their team.
She’d grown attached to all of them, spending quite a bit of time with each brother until she’d managed to make a space for herself in all of their hearts. She’d taken to Wrecker like a fish to water, letting the large clone carry her around on his shoulders or, on one memorable occasion, used her as a weight in place of Gonky. Wrecker was like a jungle gym for children, and Omega certainly took advantage of it. Wrecker never seemed to mind as he’d always laugh and try to tickle Omega as she climbed around on his back, giggling away.
Wrecker, in turn, was quick to grow attached to Omega. He’d donated his precious Lula, one of their only physical memories of their oldest brother 99, after only knowing her for a few days. He’d shown that he cared for her well-being and emotions on several occasions, but the most memorable was when Omega went to him after she accidentally tore one of Lula’s ears.
The toy had been gifted to Omega at that point, but Hunter didn’t miss the glimmer of tears in the girl’s eyes as she presented the torn toy to Wrecker with an apology fumbling from her mouth. Wrecker had only smiled at her and gently taken the toy from her grasp, offering to fix it for her. The sight of the giant man hunched over the little toy in his hands, Omega tucked under his arm, was one that Hunter wouldn’t soon forget.
Echo had been hesitant to accept Omega into his life, but he’d been like that with the rest of the Bad Batch too. Even though Echo spoke very little of his years with the Domino Squad, Hunter knew that their deaths had impacted Echo in a way that words couldn’t express. Hunter couldn’t bear to imagine the pain of being the final brother but somehow, it seemed that Omega helped lessen that pain for Echo.
It started once Omega found the trooper doll in the Pantoran market. For every spare second of the day Echo had, he could be found kneeling down next to Omega and playing with her. Most of the time he simply observed while she walked the doll around the ship, but Hunter didn’t miss the day that Echo gave Omega a small strip of fabric and helped her tie it around her doll’s waist to represent a kama. The smiles spread across the former ARC trooper and child’s faces had lasted all day and eventually spread to the rest of the squad.
Hunter thought that Omega only helped Echo with his emotional pain, but that changed when he walked in on Omega helping Echo with putting on his armor. At that time, Echo had been trying, and failing, to hide the pain in his joints from the rest of the team. Omega, of course, has been one of the first to notice and offered to help by aiding Echo in putting on his armor. Since then, it had become a routine for the two.
Even Crosshair, who’d barely been with the girl for a minute, had allowed her to touch him. Hunter hadn’t been listening to their conversation at the time, but he did notice the moment Omega laid a small but comforting hand on Crosshair’s shoulder. Hunter’s youngest brother was usually not one who accepted physical touch, especially from strangers.
Hunter, however, felt that he was different from his brothers when it came to Omega. He certainly cared for the young girl and was constantly worried about her well-being, but he just didn’t think she shared the same attachment to him as she did with his brothers. Hunter was the one that Omega had first drawn herself to and while they’d had their moments together, Hunter wasn’t sure if they were the same as what was happening with his brothers.
Hunter sighed, laying down in his bunk in an attempt to tell his brain to be quiet. These thoughts were not going to get him anywhere. As long as Omega was safe and happy, that’s what mattered. Even if it was his brothers that were what made her truly happy and not him. He took one last peek in the direction of Omega’s room before shutting his eyes.
-
Hunter’s sleep was plagued by nightmares most nights, but he immediately knew something was off with tonight’s as soon as it started. It didn’t begin in the usual warzone that his other nightmares did. Instead, Hunter was simply walking down an unrecognizable dirt road with dozens of trees growing along the sides. If he had any trust in his dreams, he might have been at peace.
He had been walking down the road for so long that he was beginning to think that this was nothing more than a strange dream when the road opened up to form a small lake with lush greenery all around. A flash of blonde hair caught his attention and he instantly knew it was Omega. Just as he was about to call out her name, she turned around and happily exclaimed, “Hunter! Isn’t it absolutely beautiful here?”
Hunter was left without words as Omega grabbed him by the hand and pulled him to the edge of the lake. She made him kneel down with her as she pointed to every fish, bug, and plant that came their way with excitement laced in her voice. Hunter happily listened to her, enjoying every second of her happiness.
A metallic sound from behind them caused Hunter to turn around to survey the area. He hadn’t felt anyone behind them and after careful observation, he determined that it was probably just a trick of the wind. Turning back around, he found that Omega was no longer by his side. When he looked around the lake, he couldn’t see her at all.
“Omega, where are you?” Hunter called out, getting to his feet. He waited a moment to see if she would reply and after he heard nothing, he bolted for the trees behind them. He hadn’t heard a splash so he knew she hadn’t jumped in the lake, but the sound he had heard might have been a distraction so someone could grab Omega.
He found no traces of any footsteps besides his own, but that didn’t stop Hunter from continuing his search for Omega. He desperately screamed her name to the point that his voice was eventually reduced to a whisper, but that never halted his search for her.
Just as Hunter was about to start searching for Omega on the path that he’d entered from, a flash of blonde hair in the middle of the lake caught his attention.
Before he could even jump in the lake after her, Hunter was released from his nightmare. Hunter sprung up, his body making all of the movement necessary to breathe, but no air made its way into his lungs. After a moment, air finally rushed into his lungs. Hunter was sweating profusely, but his entire body felt frozen. He remembered how frantic he was to find Omega and how quickly fear had taken over his heart when he was unable to find her. The memory of her small body floating face-down in the lake made him sick to his stomach.
After several minutes of deep breathing, Hunter was calm enough to know that he had to check on Omega. In the back of his head he knew she was probably fast asleep, tucked away in her room, but the haunting final images of his nightmare pulled him to his feet. Years of training allowed him to silently make his way around his sleeping brothers and up the ladder to Omega’s room. He slowly pulled back the curtain that hid her room away only to reveal two big, brown eyes staring back at him.
“Hunter?”
“Omega?”
The pair spoke each other’s names in unison, clearly surprised to see the other awake.
Hunter collected his thoughts and spoke, “I’m sorry if I woke you, I just wanted to come by to check on you. You should be asleep.”
Omega put her head down and sniffled, which was the moment Hunter saw the redness around her eyes.
In a shaky voice, Omega admitted, “I can’t go back to sleep. I had a bad dream and I don’t want it to come back.”
Hunter felt a heaviness in his heart as he took in Omega’s words. He had no idea she’d been having nightmares, and the thought of her alone up in her room crying and afraid had his heart in pieces.
Even though he wanted to do more to comfort Omega, he’d never been around a child for long and didn’t know how to handle this.
Hunter thought back to when Echo first joined the team and how his constant nightmares affected him, affected them all. The brothers all eventually formed a schedule where they would sleep close to Echo so that the grounding sensation of having another person next to him allowed Echo to sleep peacefully.
“Would you like me to come up there and sit with you?” Hunter asked, hoping Omega took this well. The girl nodded, but kept her head down. Hunter carefully pulled himself into the small space of Omega’s room, sitting down next to her and stretching his legs out.
Hunter was trying to think of what to say next but before he could even get an idea, Omega mumbled, “Do you ever get bad dreams?”
Hunter thought about how to reply for a moment before saying, “Yeah, I do. Everyone has bad dreams sometimes.”
A silence fell between the pair for a moment before Omega asked another question, “What do you do when you have bad dreams?”
The question stunned him for a moment. Just a few hours ago, Hunter was denying that Omega had a serious attachment to him and now here she was, asking about his ways of handling nightmares so she could use them for herself.
In all honesty, Hunter didn’t have much of an answer for her. He was used to calming and comforting his brothers after their own nightmares, but he seldom went to them about his own. He knew that he should reach out to them, but he preferred to keep up his image as the strong leader. Even though they had their own ways of dealing with nightmares, he was unsure if their methods would work for a child.
Still, Omega was waiting for some kind of answer from him and he’d hate to disappoint her.
Finding his voice, Hunter spoke in a careful tone, “Sometimes, talking through your nightmares to another person can be helpful. Physical touch can work as well.” As desperate as he was to help Omega, he didn’t fully know how to help a child. He could only hope that he could help her through her nightmare.
“So...is it okay if I tell you about my dream?” Omega asked, lifting her head to meet Hunter’s gaze.
“Sure thing, kiddo,” Hunter replied, happy to be able to just listen to her.
Hunter didn’t miss how Omega moved closer to Hunter and tucked herself into his side as she began to recount her nightmare.
“It started when I was walking down this pretty path that had lots of trees and plants and animals and at the end of the path, there was a lake and … and you were there. I don’t remember everything that happened, but one second we were playing together and then you were just … gone.”
Tears began to drip down Omega’s cheeks as she continued,  “I looked everywhere for you, but you just left me. I was alone and I was scared, but then I woke up.”
With every shaky word Omega spoke, Hunter’s heart shattered into smaller and smaller pieces. Their nightmares were so similar to each other and Hunter hated having to hear about the girl’s fears.
He’d noticed early on that she never liked to be alone, always insisting on coming out with them on missions even when it was dangerous, but Hunter overlooked that as Omega just being curious. Now, he knew that it was so much more than that.
Hunter thought about telling Omega about his own nightmare, but quickly decided against it. This was about her, not him.
His instincts took over as he wrapped his arms around the crying girl and lifted her into his lap, holding the side of her head with one hand to press her head against his chest. Hunter silently ran his fingers through Omega’s short hair as she wrapped her arms around him and continued to cry softly, her sobs muffled against Hunter’s blacks.
Thankfully, his instincts were right as her tears eventually began to slow down and her breathing evened out after several minutes. Still, Hunter couldn’t help but continue to keep her cradled close to him and keep his hand running through her soft hair.
“I know your dream was scary, but that’ll never happen. I will never leave you,” Hunter spoke in a soft tone he didn’t know he was capable of.
Omega didn’t respond, only snuggling closer to him at his words.
He heard Omega giggle slightly and lifted her head to say, “I can hear your heartbeat! I like the sound of it.”
Hunter smiled at the fact that Omega seemed to completely forget about her nightmare and replied, “Just keep listening to that sound, it’ll help you fall asleep.”
Omega didn’t reply as she tucked her head back against his chest, closing her eyes with a sleepy smile spread across her face.
Hunter knew that he should try to go to sleep himself, but he couldn’t help but stare at the child in his arms as he eventually watched sleep wash over her. Omega looked ten times more innocent asleep than she did awake, and Hunter did his best to commit the image before him to memory.
He wanted to stay awake for Omega in case she woke up from another nightmare, but the warmth of her small body cradled in his arms and the soft sounds of her breathing slowly lulled him to sleep.
Hunter would wake up with a crick in his neck and the stiffest knees of his life, but the warmth nestled in his heart made it all worth it.

A helping hand / A bad batch fanfiction
So, this is my first fanfiction, and hopefully I can write more than one part to this, because I've got some ideas for where this story could head. The first bit may go on for a while, but just so I can set up the story. I hope you enjoy it!
genre: Mainly fluff, but a bit of angst too, self-insert
warnings: minor injury (sprained ankle), star wars curses, mentions of slavery
You stared out of the window as the sun faded over the nabooian hillside. You watched the evening breeze sway the tall grass. This was probably the least eventful year you've had, and to be honest, you were pretty glad about that. You were sick of fighting. Being a Jedi seemed like the ideal life for you, until that fateful day on Ord Mantell, where the Jedi couldn't save you from Hondo Ohnaka and his cronies. You shuddered at the very memory of that weequay slimeball, how he took you away from the life you had ever since you you could remember. For six long years, you were a member of his crew, performing all of the stealth operations that the pirates were too lazy to do themselves. You were only a Padawan when they abducted you, but they were delighted to have a lightweight asset to the team, even though you were a mere child. Those six years taught you things, like how to steal, lie and charm your way out of many a sticky situation, though the skills you treasured the most were first taught to you at the Jedi order. They taught you how to heal, nurture and channel the living force to help the ones in pain. Now, of course, you learned how to use the force in the way any Jedi should, but after you were abducted, you had a bit of time on your hands between raids, as the pirates were more into full-on fist to fist pillagers, and only needed you when they needed stealth on their side. In your moments of quiet, you learned how to compromise with the force, willing it to bend to your will, while allowing it to manifest in you. After a while, you became strong enough to harness it with a flick of your hand. But you knew better than to use this in front of the pirates, as they'd want to have you on the frontlines, and knowing them they'd probably try to make a profit of you. No, you had to escape. That was the only other reasonable option. So, while the pirates were in a drunken stupor, you crept onboard an unoccupied ship and with a bit of luck and an equal amount of guesswork, you shot into space, free at last. However, one thing pirates did not teach you was how to fly a ship, so you held your breath with every groan and creak of the old ship, praying that it wouldn't fall apart. Another thing the pirates never taught you was what the big red lever on the steering pad was, so naturally you wanted to try it. Needless to say, it didn't go very well, as you hurtled through the stars at lightspeed, cursing loudly as you held on for dear life on the back of the pilot's chair. Luckily, you pulled the lever again just as you were headed towards a serene-looking green planet. Naboo. You took a sigh of relief as you assumed control of the ship once again, as you had been to Naboo on a mission once, and you wanted to return desperately, though revisiting Naboo hadn't been on top of your list of priorities when you were with the pirates. You landed miraculously unharmed, in an unoccupied meadow, and with a whoop of joy, you sprang from the ship. You trekked through the fields until you found an abandoned cottage, with a broken wooden fence on the outskirts of a village, from which you could hear the laughs of children. You made yourself at home in the ragged shack, taking your pack off your shoulders. You smiled to yourself. You were home.
BANG!
Your reminiscing was interrupted by a deafening crash outside your home (which was no longer ragged-you may have been brought up by pirates, but you still had a Jedi's need for a good environment). You sprang to your feet and dropped your cup of tea as you raced out of your home to find a ship in even worse condition than yours, flattening your new crop of meiloorans. "HEY!'" You shouted, not caring who was inside that shuttle," WHO ARE YOU?!" You clutched your lightsaber, prepared to brandish it menacingly if needed. The hatch of the ship hissed open, and a man with shaggy, dark hair and a red bandanna emerged, holding a blond haired child gingerly, as if the kid was an extension of his own soul. Behind him was a hulking mass of a guy, who you could sense an overwhelming sense of worry from, followed by a smaller man in goggles, tentatively observing the child as he trailed behind his companions, and rounding up the odd group was a sickly, pale man with prosthetic limbs with paternal concern etched on his face . You stowed your lightsaber back onto your belt and headed towards them. You didn't need the force to tell you that these people needed help.
“Hey, fellas.” you said as you strode towards the team “Is there a problem?” Under closer inspection, these guys- brothers, it seemed, had enough panic shared between them to make a whole town feel uneasy. Your eyes flicked quickly to the nearby village, whose people you had been the resident doctor for since you arrived. Keep them talking, you thought to yourself, if they want to harm the villagers, they’re going to have to get through me. You highly doubted they would struggle against a small, simple medic anyway, even though you had the force on your side.”Can you help us?” You flinched slightly as the dark and broody man with the sleeping child in his arms addressed you. You cleared your throat “Of course. Does it involve her?” you said as you pointed to the kid. The goggled one pushed himself forwards anxiously and responded “Yes. We believe it to be a fracture in her ankle, though she has fainted from the pain she was in.” A fractured ankle? That was an easy fix. “Can you heal her?” The largest one inquired, looking the most unsettled of all of them. You smiled at them.“Of course I can” you said reassuringly “Come with me”. The crew all stood and watched nervously as you carried the child to your operating table (which was just an old bed) and examined her. “You were right, gents.” you said as your eyes flicked over her unconscious body “ A broken ankle.” The pale paternal one stepped towards you and asked, “Is she going to be ok?”. “Yes, fortunately, you came to the right person, er-” you paused when you realized you knew none of their names. “If you don’t mind me asking, who are you guys?” The group shared a glance, then the husky-voiced one spoke up “Ma’am. I am s- Hunter. And this is Tech, Echo, and Wrecker.” he indicated to each one in turn. You look at the girl. “And her?” “H-her name is Omega.” Echo said, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion. “Well, I’d best get to work. I’m going to need you to wait outside for the procedure if that’s alright.” You said as you move to sit next to the little girl. Hunter scowled in indignation.”I’m so sorry, but I’m going to need privacy for the operation. I’m sure she’ll be fine” you say as you put a hand on his shoulder, willing the force into your words. He didn’t seem to approve, but he motioned the others out. “Do not hurt her. If you do, I swear-” he growled. You put your hand to your chest as you say “I know what she means to you, sergeant. I promise to heal her.”. He looked puzzled as you addressed him, as he knew he didn’t introduce himself with his usual official rank. Kriff, you thought, I mustn't slip up like that again. His gaze raked you once more, and he nodded solemnly. “Thank you.” he said as he left the dimly lit room.
“Fractured ankle. Easy fix.” you muttered to yourself as you hold your palm over her foot, calling the force to your aid. You inhale deeply and close your eyes, focusing on a mental image of the little girl, Omega, smiling and well.
I am one with the force and the force is with me.
I am one with the force and the force is with me.
The chant echoed in your mind, over and over. You hear a low hum around you, a hum building up in you. Your fingertips shivered as a surge of energy whooshed through you, and into Omega. She began to stir, her eyes fluttering as she mimics your internal chant. Her eyes snapped open as she let out a shuddering gasp. “Hello,” she said, smiling uncertainly. “Omega? You did so well there,” you whispered “You were so brave! How do you feel?” The little girl giggled as she sat up. “ I feel…good. I feel good.” she said, with certainty in her voice. You extended your arm. “Good enough to walk?” you asked with a crooked smile. Omega grasped your hand and nods confidently. Together, you walked through the door to the meadow, where the guys sat, looking forlorn at the ground. “Wrecker!” the little girl cries out excitedly. “KID!” You looked up from Omega to see a 6’7 mass of pure muscle barrelling towards your patient and picked her up into a hug. “We were worried!” he exclaimed, beaming at her as he lowered her to the ground. The others then approached the child, Hunter crouching to her level as he asked“How d’you feel, kid?” “I feel like I could run for hours!” he chuckled at omega’s response and stood back up at his full height. “Thank you,” he said to you, his face looking like he was trying to conceal a grin. “It was no trouble.” you said, nodding softly. Your gaze flitted from one brother to another, and they all looked immensely relieved, though your gaze lingered on the bespectacled Tech, whose expression was slightly harder to read. He stared at you quizzically, like he was trying to piece a puzzle together. He knows, you thought, slightly panicked, he knows I’m a Jedi. Or was. Whatever. He knows I’m force-sensitive. Fortunately, no one else shared that expression. Wrecker was completely over the moon that Omega was alright, Echo was too busy trying to stop Wrecker and Omega from racing each other, saying “we’ve had enough accidents today,” and Hunter was standing away from them, smiling softly. Suddenly, a sharp, swift pain ran through your body, like a thousand needles ramming into you. The world went blurry as you sank to the floor. You felt a firm hand on your shoulder and the blur of color sharpened back into detail. You looked up to see Tech, his face grim. “We-” “Y/N!” Tech was interrupted by two figures rushing towards you. Wait...did I tell them my name? You mused to yourself, but your train of thought was interrupted by a hand clasped around yours, a small, soft hand. Omega beamed up at you, and you couldn’t help but beam back. “Come with us,” Omega said confidently. You were taken aback by such a sudden invitation, and evidently, your flustered expression showed as the child’s warm smile faltered. “i -if you want.” “Yeah! We need a medic!” Oh. You looked to your other side, and Tech was gone, but in his place was Wrecker, who was smiling expectantly. You never assumed someone so tough-looking could be so youthful and childlike. Both of them gave reasons as to why you should go with them, though omega was giving some considerable points (“You healed me so quickly, and it would be great to have you with us!”) while Wrecker, bless his heart, gave some very different reasons ( “we can blow more stuff up!”). Hunter came towards you and took you aside. “Say you’ll think about it,” he said gruffly. So Hunter put those two up to it, you thought, smirking internally. “I will.”
You made up your mind. You had gathered your belongings (though there weren’t many) and put them into your pack. You had left a note on the door of your hut, explaining that you had to leave, and you didn’t know when you were coming back. You had left your medical assistant basic recipes for extra cures they didn’t already know. You bid the villagers goodbye and took a deep breath as you adjusted your pack handles. One more chapter of excitement, you thought as you walked aboard the havoc marauder.
“Strap in Y/N,” Omega said as you entered the upper atmosphere of the planet you once called home, “You’re not going to want to miss this view.”
END
………..
So, I hope you enjoyed that, and let me know if you want a part two!
