I don't think we get to know what dorm Ramshackle originally was (I haven't gotten to any of book seven yet, I'm on book six in the English sub version…as much as I want to learn it, I don't know Japanese so I can't play it in Japanese unfortunately :')) so I made a dorm amd a history for since ✨ boredom ✨ so, here you go :)
Tumblr media
I'm putting the information below a cut so that it doesn't take forever with scrolling if you want to just skip…and because of uncensored ideas of k!ll!ng :)
Trivia:
The name Indaecor is a blend of the words indagator or indagatoris meaning explorer in Latin and aecor meaning ocean or sea in Latin (translation according to https://www.latin-english.com/english/explorer/ since I don't know much Latin unfortunately but wanted to use it to make the name since quite a few dorms have names of words blended or even just put on top of other words)
I originally wanted to use Cruella as my inspiration since that'd be awesome and make sense considering that we're technically the housewarden and Crowley called us a "beastmaster" and she doesn't already have a dorm…and then I felt like an idiot because I remembered professor Crewel
I decided upon Captain Hook because I haven't seen any TWST adaptation of him, it would be quite easy to match him into the dorm's aesthetic with a bit of recoloration on the furniture, and he has a way that he could be seen in the light of a hero
Considering that this isn't a canon dorm and we don't know why Captain Hook was out for Peter's blood I decided to story merge
Captain Hook is called "The Captain" due to his status as a pirate captain and Peter is called "The Orphan" due to the facts that since he was so untraceable and he kept so much secret around his family that they were thought dead
Indaecor is the dorm of "chivalry"
The hook and sword are due to The Captain's hook hand and weapon of choice
The red and purple color scheme matches his coat and hat
The reason Indaecor dorm is at the gates instead of in a pocket dimension like the other dorms is because due to it's chivalrous spirit they would house anyone who needed a place to stay upon visiting Night Raven and because due to their chivalry they were the first ones to come to assistance in the case of an intruder or someone needing help either inside or outside the school grounds
The dorm uniforms (shown below) are based upon The Captain's traditional uniform
Tumblr media
Backstory synopsis and why Indaecor was removed as a dorm:
As a young boy The Captain lived under a tyrant who wouldn't let anyone leave his reign, but one night The Captain snuck out but lost his left hand to a struggle with the tyrant. A few years pass since The Captain escaped he now has refugees he's helped escape the tyrant and they soon become a band of pirates helping more people escape while in an eternal stalemate with the tyrant.
Decades later it was found out that the tyrant was a long-time hero called The Orphan who was known for housing a gaggle of playful children and protecting them from an unnamed yet aggressive enemy which meant that the stories contradict and that they're both the villains of the stories, an idea that the headmage at the time was not fond of seeing be associated with the school and thus revoking Indaecor's status as a dorm.

As a fellow lover of books and black sails, do you have any book recommendations that give off black sails vibes or just seem like something a person who loves the show would love to read? Thank you either way!
Yes!!!!!
First of all, last year I actually made a whole page/post of exactly this, so definitely check that out! (That's two different links and I suspect you'll have better luck with the first link on desktop than mobile, but it's the same stuff in either place.)
Then here are some books I've been meaning to add to the list since then and hadn't gotten around to:
A Clash of Steel by C.B. Lee – a total reimagining of Treasure Island as a queer romance about Chinese and Vietnamese girls and women. I loved this book! Two particular characters from the original were merged into one character which never would have occurred to me and it was SUCH a good reveal.
The Last Smile in Sunder City by Luke Arnold – It’s by Luke Arnold.
When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill – About women (especially queer and otherwise nonconforming women) in the 1950s refusing to be silenced and controlled. And they’re dragons.
The Arabian Nights – I recommend the new(ish) version translated by Yasmine Seale and annotated by Paolo Lemos Horta, which is enormous but really interesting. This is a really foundational text that has consciously or unconsciously influenced a lot of other stories over a long time, and I don’t think it’s a leap to guess that Treasure Island, Black Sails, and some of the other books on my list are among them. Plus, here’s a quote from the introduction that might give off some familiar vibes: “Every story in the global canon of fantastical literature is in some way a vessel shipwrecked on the rocks of its misinterpretation… Assessed in these terms, One Thousand and One Nights is perhaps the greatest and most sprawling ruin of them all.”
Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown – Some poor bastard finds himself stuck as the cook on a pirate ship, gets his leg amputated, and falls in love with the ruthless captain. Hmm.
A Conspiracy of Truths and A Choir of Lies by Alexandra Rowland – Explores the roles of storytellers in society through the misadventures of really fascinating unreliable narrators.
And the recent reads that prompted the post I think you're responding to were The Drowning Empire trilogy (beginning with The Bone Shard Daughter) - a very compelling fantasy series which I initially picked up primarily because the covers look kind of like the Black Sails intro sequence - and Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco, which yes! I did look at entirely because it had Silver in the title. It's a vampire book and it has some weaknesses BUT it's a polyamorous romance which counts for a lot. Plus I've been resisting reading Flint and Mirror by John Crowley which. has Flint in the title.
Hope this helps!

Rules: Share the first line of your last ten published works or as many as you are able to, and see if there are any patterns!
tagged by @whetstonefires!
(Last ten published works, huh? That does rather narrow it down...)
1. The Man Who Would Not Stop for Death – a short, pulpy original noir scene for The Merry Whump of May.
The problem with discovering your payday is committing felonies — apart from the fact that they're committing felonies at all, of course — is that your odds of getting paid take a sharp downturn.
2. The Man and the Moon – a longform noir serial in which the same protagonist finds himself attempting to apply hardboiled rationalism to cosmic horrors from beyond the stars.
Chicago is an improvement over Hoboken, which should paint a sufficiently damning picture of both cities.
3. To Serve Satan: Miss deManners' Guide to the Heavenly Host – a Good Omens short about Crowley's methods that came to me fully-formed in a dream, so I'm not sure I should be counting it, but it did probably come from my brain technically so what the hell.
"Would either of you like something off the dessert trolley, sirs?"
For once, it was Crowley who looked up with such sudden diamond-bright joy that it cut.
4. But Be the Serpent Under ’t – an AU of my own pirate noncon epic in which Captain Crowley possesses one of his captors.
When Crowley finally died, it came almost as an anticlimax.
5. The Seas Incarnadine – the aforementioned epic pirate noncon fic, which I stg I am going to finish one of these days. (This sentiment also applies to every other unfinished fic on this list.)
This whole piracy lark had, in retrospect, gone a bit further than intended.
6. Conversant With Terrible Objects – DC mirrorverse character study of Owlman in the form of filthy, filthy phone sex with Superwoman.
The Crime Syndicate believed that Owlman loved Gotham City, when they credited him with the ability to love at all.
7. Black-Clad Bats and Making Money – the one where John Mulaney becomes the Riddler™
You may recognise me as the man who programmed — because that’s what being a game programmer gets you, instant celebrity, like Shigeru Miyamoto and the guy who invented Tetris — you may recognise me as Edward Nigma, the man who programmed Labyrinth of the Minotaur, a bestselling game whose apparent claim to fame is that it is unwinnable.
8. Crowskin – the one where Owlman catches an Australian magpie like a fuckin' baseball.
“What,” uttered Johnny Quick, “the fuck.”
9. Those Who Fight Monsters – a casefic wherein the mirror-universe Riddler deals with the moral dilemma of rescuing Owlman's favorite child assassin.
You would think, thought Edward Nigma, crouching behind the wall of shipping containers he’d scaled partway up for a better vantage point, that criminals would find somewhere else to conduct their business.
10. King's Gambit – DC mirrorverse fic where Lex Luthor and Sinestro discuss rationalism and then kiss (and then try to reverse-engineer God so they can use him as a nuke)
“Good news,” said Sinestro as he pulled away. “You’ll probably keep the eye.”
So the first thing I notice is that I like to open with an immediate, snappy Establishing Character Moment, usually in a close POV. That's probably related to the fact that my usual catalyst for writing down a scene I've been building up in my head is finding an opening hook that I like too much not to use, and which leads naturally into my mind expanding on it for another few paragraphs whether I want it to or not; also to the fact that most of my fic is character-centric, and almost always written in a POV limited to the inside of the viewpoint character's head even when it's in third person.
Something I wasn't expecting from this selection of opening lines – and possibly this is a pattern that would be broken if I included some of my many, many unpublished WIPs – is how many of these take a tongue-in-cheek jab at a significant aspect of the story itself. I don't think it's a matter of being convinced of my own metafictional cleverness, nor of being unconfident in my premise and seeking to lampshade it before the reader gets a chance to notice the cracks themselves...more that my favorite characters tend to be those that overthink everything, in part because I find it a relatable trait. Hmm.
Let's pull in a few of my closest-to-publishable WIP openings, for the hell of it:
My mother, may G-d bless her because he certainly hasn't given her much to work with so far, named me Sidney Solomon Jacobi.
--
"Y'know Sandra Nylund?" I ask, winding my way through the bullpen to my desk, where I navigate the organised chaos of notes and reports until I find the file I'm looking for.
--
The new navigator arrived on the HMS Essex's eighth day in port.
--
The thing about alcoholism was that it was perfectly socially acceptable to drink yourself to death.
--
The second time someone called him, she had Owlman tied to the bed.
Okay, yeah, I'm figuring that pattern's probably just a weird coincidence. Interesting that it worked out that way, though.
Tagging off the top of my head: @punishandenslavesuckers @anneapocalypse @weird-mcgee – and anyone else who sees this, consider yourself tagged as well!

Thinking about Theo and music....
So originally I thought "Theo can't sing." But I also got a fair bit of inspiration for his relationship to Cheliax from Captain Von Trapp's relationship to Austria from the Sound of Music (deepest apologies to Messrs Crowley and Fell), and I just had an idea...
So when he's young, Theo isn't necessarily great at singing, but it's one of the ways he keeps his spirits up on his 'low' days - unlike most gnomes, he started bleaching in utero, and I have it manifest for him largely as childhood depression, kept in check partly by his anxieties. Theo's mom taught him to sing when he's down or scared (assuming it's safe to do so), even if it's just a silly song about how much he hates everything, because it will help keep him from complete despair. So he sings a lot in his youth, but never as a performance. It's always for himself.
When Thrune takes over, I imagine there's something of a crackdown on what is and is not acceptable music. Songs and ballads are a way of retelling history, after all, and Thrune has always been very careful about controlling the people's understanding of history. So most of Theo's favorite songs - especially the ones about what it means to be Chelaxian - probably became straight up dangerous to sing. And since a lot of what Theo is upset about during this time isn't safe to admit aloud, he can't sing his silly little "I hate this" songs. There are some songs that are still safe - Cheliax didn't crack down as hard on Brastlewark because they didn't want to deal with the GNOMES, so silly Brastlewark specific songs are probably fine, but part of why Theo loved the Chelaxian songs is they gave him a sense of identity (something he struggled with as a young man) in a way the more whimsical gnomish songs didn't. He tries to keep singing to himself to keep his spirits up, but censoring himself just reinforces his grief, so he eventually stops singing altogether. It's part of why he declines so quickly - he is essentially grieving in secret, totally isolated, and without his usual coping mechanisms.
Once the bleaching runs his course, of course, Theo is a very different person. His emotions have muted enough that singing to himself for comfort is largely unnecessary. He kind of forgets he used to sing to himself for years - to the point it doesn't even come to mind while raising Qweck. Its partly a defense mechanism - it just isn't safe for him to remember that aspect of himself. It's not until he flees to Kintargo that he remembers.
Kintargo's prominence in the Chelish Opera scene and the unique Kintargan dance halls suggest to me that the city's culture is very musical. So I imagine that not too terribly long after fleeing Brastlewark - after Giliys's patron has been dealt with but before he knows what he's going to do with himself now that being a librarian seems out of the question - Theo is wandering the city, and he happens to pass by a school and he hears singing. It sounds like some kind of chorale practice, which is common enough - even in Brastlewark, they had a children's chorus (though it sounded dreadful because they could never get the kids to sing the same song at the same time) - but there's something bout this chorus that stops him in his tracks.
They're singing the old songs.
Songs about Cheliax and her history that Theo hasn't heard since before the Ascendancy. Songs he forgot he knew because it wasn't safe to know them. Songs that carried him through some of the most difficult days of his childhood, that he had to forget during the most difficult days of his adulthood.
That's when Theo knows he's going to be alright. Because whatever else is going on, there are children who sing the old songs. He's never going to sing as much as he did in his youth (even if he was so inclined, spontaneously breaking out in song in the middle of the street is less accepted in Kintargo than it was in Brastlewark), but after that, from time to time, he'll catch himself humming to himself - and then he'll allow himself to continue because he's safe here.
And during those times when he's overwhelmed and afraid and alone - especially during that year when Giliys and Qweck run off to hell to try to retrieve the souls Giliys damned for his patron - he'll go for a long walk around the city, and somehow his feet will always take him outside that school, to hear the children sing the old songs.

Lankum Album Review: False Lankum
Tumblr media
(Rough Trade)
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Lankum are a true progressive folk band, exploring the genre’s crossover appeal. Yet, the Irish quartet don’t make accessible music, necessarily; rather, they find common themes among tales of heartbreak, murder, oppression, and the terrible things the human race is capable of, diving headfirst into the darkness of old stories and applying it to new worlds. Produced by John “Spud” Murphy, the band’s latest album False Lankum is far and away their most ambitious and best, as horrific at times as it is beautiful. It begins with “Go Dig My Grave”, a standard tale of lovelorn suicide and its resulting note with burial instructions, that’s seen versions by everyone from Jean Ritchie and Doc Watson to Lambchop. It starts with singer Radie Peat, a capella, an uneasy shrillness in the weariness of her voice and the sharp tones of the guitar stabs. Eventually, the piercing drones and stomping percussion--meant to invoke the Irish process of keening--emulate the never-ending strikes of shovels in the ground during a burial. It’s straight out of an Ari Aster film.
False Lankum take traditional Irish music and put it up against a mirror, the inherent doom of the song’s themes staring right back at it in the face. “Master Crowley’s” is an instrumental fiddle reel that morphs into something truly sinister and dangerous, woozy concertinas and string instruments squeaking and growling like rabid, out-of-breath animals. On “Lord Abore and Mary Flynn”, Cormac MacDiarmada’s pained singing carries the dark, sad jaunt about a mother who poisons her teenage son instead of allowing him to choose his own love. Epic closer “The Turn”, one of two Daragh Lynch originals, sees the vocal harmonies in lower octaves, the song structure alternating between ambient and a galloping, fatalistic chorus. “Turn, we’ll find better days / Burned to the ground / Mourn, it’s the only way / We’ll make a sound,” they sing, before the song ends with clattering drums and squealing drones, the true sound of mourning, indeed.
Of course, there’s beauty and triumph in the pain on False Lankum, like on Gordon Bok tune “Clear Away in the Morning”, where the abstractly doom-filled strings are nonetheless gentle in their delivery alongside whispered vocal harmonies. “Netta Perseus”, another original, sports muted harmonies and plucked guitars, rolling drums and synthesizers that take us into an abyss of sound. The harmonic, chanted “The New York Trader” is a sea shanty about sacrificing the life of a confessed murderer boat captain in order to calm the seas, immigrants coming ashore in “Amerikay” bloodied but alive, which is how you feel as the song thrashes about until its conclusion.
And then there’s centerpiece “Newcastle”, which has origins in the 17th century but, along with “Lord Abore and Mary Flynn”, has undeniable contemporary applications. The former could be sung from the perspective of the latter’s victim. “Why should I not love my love? / Why shouldn’t my love love me? / Why shouldn’t I not speed after her / Since love to all is free?” the band longingly ask on “Newcastle”, presenting the questions of freedoms and human agency as matter-of-fact, righteous parts of existence rather than something to be begged for. In telling these stories, Lankum keep folk alive and well, peeling back its layers to reveal raw wounds.

Check In: Heaven or Hell?
Check In: Heaven or Hell?
by asunshinepuff, Lady_Nightmare
Current theories on the creation of Heaven and Hell are that if I simply created them and they didn’t just happen into being, as most people tend to believe. It would have to be when I sent Lucifer to his room, which was the basement, for not listening to me when I told him not to mess with my work.
But then the question is. How would one get into heaven or hell? Is redemption possible?
Is there anyone who can stop the meddling of heaven and hell?
That is for me to know, and for you to find out.

TWST OC-Daksha Hook
Tumblr media
Actual Name: Daksha Rao
Age: 28
Position: Staff Member NRC
Subject: Sea Navigation (Elective) /Mathematics (General Subject)
Dominant Hand: Right
Species: Human
Homeland: Briar Valley
Favorite Food: Grilled Bell Peppers
Unique Magic: Pirate's crew
Can heal a whole party of people from magical damage (especially from fire/omni magic)
Can also cut down an opposing crew's entire attack damage by half
Main drawback is the user loses 25% of their magical power so they have to cooldown before they attack or they risk over blotting
OC Lore:
A young girl of unknown origin sets out for adventure and opportunities to seek riches.
The captain set off with her crew to the valley, to engage in commerce work and set out her personal riches with many thanks to a business partner.
Then a shipwreck occurred which left the whole boat in tatters.
She concurs that there has to be a culprit considering the ship was in top condition when it was set to sail but cannot focus on that now since she is out of money and needs to pay back the ship
After a catastrophic shipwreck which left many severely injured but not dead fortunately but still unable to work their usual jobs so they have to find work elsewhere.
There was talk at the local tavern of NRC hiring new staff members for the new incoming students and they rushed to the nearest opportunity to get the job
There she attended the interview and got selected to teach a regular course and an elective course to which she chose math and sea navigation.
Thus begins her two main missions:
Get enough money to repair the boat
Find the person/fairy?? who sank the boat in the first place.
Fun Facts
Her left hand was bitten off by a crocodile after a swimming incident at the age of 15.
Has a steel hook in place for a hand
Daksha did not realize that she signed up to teach at an all boys school until after the interview was completed
It was an "oh shit" moment when she walked into the staff room and it was all dudes
In her defense, when she got to the interview only Crowley was there and the school was practically empty.
Lucky for her almost everyone thought she was a dude with long hair.
Except Sam and Trien which had their doubts but are cool with it nonetheless because they are good at what they do.
Adores Sea Shanties and Sing Along
Terrorizes everyone to come to Karaoke with her
Captain Hook as a childhood Idol
Sam and her are good friends which is cemented by the symbiotic friendship of he gets her things and she buys him drinks at the bar or tavern ( or any personal favors/connections to rich people)
Favorite thing to do together is to annoy Crewel outside his office to distract him from work sometimes.
Thinks Divus is cool but they don't see things eye-to-eye sometimes.
Whether it comes to teaching methods or personal habits they have a hard time seeing eye to eye
But they get along when they need to.
Gives a great deal of Respect to Trien because she thought he was a senior citizen
A rookie mistake (he is only 58) but it still deeply hurt.
Cool with Vargas refuses to exercise with him bolting at the first chance at escape
The students think she is cool and the Sea Navigation class is mainly students from Octaniville and some assorted third years as well.
Fairly chill with many outside trips to the sea and other areas of twisted wonderland.

Seeing some posts/fanart with "let the gays run away together!" that include Crowley alongside OFMD and other shows and... it rubs me the wrong way, honestly. I feel like it is saying Aziraphale should have run away with Crowley and that just... puts an emphasis on their relationship like its the most important part of the story. Like them running away would be the happy ending. When Crowley asks Aziraphale to run away with him, he's panicking. The end of the world is in hours, they've lost the Antichrist, Hell knows he fucked up (and Satan has promised him personal, eternal torture)... he basically sees no way out besides running for their lives and hoping that Heaven and Hell are too busy killing each other to notice them missing. And Aziraphale wants to go. You see on his face how badly he wants to go. But he's still clinging to the last, desperate hope that he can talk to God and stop the War. He's an angel, he has faith. He still wants to avoid the whole mess-- he doesn't just want to save themselves, he wants to save Earth and everything on it. So he tells Crowley no, and you see how it hurts him to do it. He can't let himself run away. He has to try. And the thing is, Aziraphale was right. No, he didn't get in touch with God. But his encounters with the Metatron and the Archangels are what finally push him to see that Heaven is just as bad as Hell. That they really are okay with destroying the planet and all of humanity. That if he wants to stop Armaggeddon, he (and Crowley) have to do it themselves. They get their happy ending, because Aziraphale was determined to stay and try until the very last. Because they didn't run away to be alive and miserable on an empty rock orbiting Alpha Centauri. Because Madam Tracy wouldn't let Aziraphale shoot Adam. Because Shadwell discorporated Aziraphale. Because all of them, in their own way, thought it was hopeless but stood up and decided to try anyway. And they won.

Just a pair of ineffable werewolves out on the town :3 Inspired by this video; Aziraphale is based on an Alaskan Malamute, Crowley is based on the extremely leggy Maned Wolf.

Ok since everybody is extremely excited about pirates at the moment, I want to take a sec to recommend the podcast Campaign: Skyjacks, which is about SKY PIRATES.
It's set in the original world of Speir, where God died about 200 years prior, the stars fell, and the ocean is now extremely haunted. Fortunately people discovered a material called Featherweave which is lighter than air when heated, and allowed for sailing ships to be remade as Skyships.
Did I mention this world also has giant rideable birds? It does, they're awesome.
The story focuses on the crew of the Uhuru, a feared pirate ship under the command of Captain Orimar Vale. Unfortunately, when the story starts, Orimar has been killed while on an away mission. Fortunately (?) the ship's doctor is also a necromancer. So our characters decide to just... raise Orimar as a zombie and Weekend at Bernie's him so the rest of the crew doesn't know! Obviously a foolproof plan.
Our main cast is Travis, a changeling rogue; Gable, a 7ft tall fallen angel; Jonnet, a 14 year old kid with a Destiny and a third eye; and Dref, the doctor/necromancer.
It's a great show and while it can deal with some surprisingly heavy topics there are extensive CWs on episodes. Note that there are consistently a lot of crass/sex jokes as running gags.
If you'd prefer to avoid the heavier themes and dirty jokes, there is a spinoff called Skyjacks: Courier's Call, which follows three teens working on a skyship for the mail service. It's a much lighter series but still full of the same cool fantasy worldbuilding.

Absolutely not surprised the Touch Grass Fanfic post got the #1 spot, it's gotten more notes than I've ever had on anything else. Still kind of annoyed it turned into a whole discourse on lawns, though. It was meant to be a way to share a funny post I saw about taking fanfiction too seriously... and then people took it too seriously, about entirely the wrong topic. Very happy people liked my werewoofs and wing art, though, and hopefully made some new Skyjacks fans!

Hi! lgbtqcreators anon again. It’s been a while since I’ve watched Good Omens but reading your thoughts made me think about what made me fall in love with it in the first place: Aziraphale and Crowley and their relationship. Episode 3 is actually my favorite for that reason, I too loved seeing their relationship develop through the years. I am also nonbinary and asexual and I actually began to question my gender identity around the time I watched the show, so having them definitely helped me feel more comfortable.
Also, totally understand you owning all things Good Omens, I mean, if you love something of course you’d want to collect everything related to it.
Other questions I have:
What are your all time favorite movies? What about comfort movies?
Editing-wise what are your favorite layouts/effects/fonts?
More Good Omens for you: Out of all the versions which one is your favorite and why?
I hope you have a wonderful day!
hey!! ahh I'm so so glad good omens helped you feel comfortable with your identity! I will fight anyone who says the show is queerbaiting for not explicitly showing a sexual mlm relationship - I feel incredibly seen by it <3 in the words of neil gaiman himself: "whatever crowley and aziraphale are, it's a love story"
favourite movies:
the princess bride (all time fave)
pitch perfect
night at the museum (comfort movie)
thor: ragnarok
captain america: civil war
editing faves:
anything with gif overlays/cut outs is always impressive to me because I know how fiddly it can be! and people who do text animations? the TALENT. I also just love seeing people do fun things with colouring
good omens:
oooh okay. so number one has to be the show - the joy of seeing it on screen is incomparable! AND I loved the little changes they made from the book, especially in the last episode.
next, it'd be a tie between the physical book and the original audio book. a lot of the book is told through footnotes, so reading them myself was good fun but is maybe a little bit easier to keep track of in the audio book?
the cast version of the audio book is wonderful because it's them BUT! the delivery of some lines is different in the audio vs the show, and when you've seen the show as many times as I have that can be a bit jarring haha
thank you for such thoughtful questions! hope you're enjoying your day <3

Cards and Creatures- (Randomisation in Games) -”Research”
Tumblr media
Tarot Cards, Divination Through Randomisation- Research
Tarot cards are a set of 14 to 22 and even 56 unique and individual cards originally used for games but later elaborated into a form of divination by the occult of France through cartomancy. Through selecting the cards from the deck, the dealer can supposedly read your fortune and future depending on what cards were pulled and in which order. The cards are sometimes referred to as arcana, with some being referred to as minor or major, those with suits, (Queen, King, Jack and knight,) being minor with those without a suit being major.
The cards, (specifically those used by the occult for readings,) are decorated with visual and physic illustrations, depictions of the cards name, such as the High Prissiest or the Emperor and Wheel of Fortune. The game was never originally made with the intent of fate, with changes being made by those who believed the cards had greater meaning, with such facts as the original suits, Batons, Coins, cups and swords having coins changed to disks and batons to wands, with the 3 most popular divination tarot decks being that of Marseilles, Rider-Waite-Smith and Thoth.
I wanted to look at tarot cards as they are a form of randomisation that we are currently working on found not in games but the real world that has an interesting idea behind it that can only be found in a mystics belief.
I was first introduced to Tarot through Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, where it’s 3rd part, Stardust Crusaders, has the cast traveling to Egypt to defeat a curse, where all the enemies have abilities called stands that are named after the tarot, with the last batch of enemies taking on the names of Egyptian God’s, the birthplace where people site the tarots original mystical existence, even if no proof supposedly exists to such claims, but rather site it to Italy. The characters took on names such as Star Platinum, after the star tarot, and Hermit Purple, after the hermit tarot. later, in the second half of the story, a character even appears, Boingo, named after band Oingo Boingo, who has the stand Thoth, named after the Egyptian god that a tarot deck is named after, with it appearing as a book, what was sometimes what the deck was referred to by English Occultist Aleister Crowley.
Life, a Roll of the Dice- Research
The conception of life, of creating matter that can think freely and evolve throughout its life and grow to become something more than the sum of its parts is a magical thing that we organisms can witness and experience in our life. Quite frighteningly, however,  our lives, and those of those around us,are out of our hands, you might believe that you are in control and that your are the captain of your own personified existence, but everything that makes you, you, is not anything you can freely dictate, unless you are in a religious space where such words don’t stand to scrutiny.
You are made from two people, these two people were made from 4 people, those 4 people had their own makers, and to their makers their own, sprawling up a root so far reaching that some overlap with other roots without knowing, without ever finding out, makes you who you are. You are a wall decked in switches, with a chaotic ball randomly flipping them on and off constantly till it runs out of energy what dictates what you are. You are born into this world, with no bearing in which way you should go, with you waking up in the world unaware of where you are, and if you are unlucky, you might not even wake up, that is what makes you, you.
What I’m trying to say is that we have no control over existence, we exist because we exist, not to fill out a plan, or to fit into a space left out for us, rather, we are made by accident, by a species too developed and negligent to care about their planet, but not wise enough to realise that we are no longer needed. Animals reproduce to survive, some do it out of duty, some might even do it to survive, but they all do it so they may continue to live and that their existence as a species my prhosper. But humanity, even though we have taken over the world and have enslaved animals for our own survival, why do we continue to make more children? To continue the species still, perhaps because you like to do it or because you want to start a family, but still, from our primal needs, we have a desire to survive through our children.
When you are born, you were made for someone else, you had no say, no say in where or who and even why. And now you must live. You must exist. You have no power, no choice, you are ferried into school and education so you might obtain a job so you can die, you have no choice, its randomisation.
One day you could get cancer, or one day you could lose your leg due to an infection, perhaps you just lost your job due to a pandemic what as not prevented, maybe you haven't even graduate yet, still working on trying to work, just to find out your dream job or perhaps the profession you want is no longer needed and has been replaced, or that you might be getting into realising that your dream job wasn’t a dream after all. We can make choices, that's a guarantee, but to pull out a card from a deck and get the card you want isn’t easy, especially if that deck is a thousand cards high
I wanted to talk about this as I find it hard to talk about things i'm not so interested in, i can talk for ages about things such as Destiny, such as seen in this project, but other factors are far less enjoyable. In my life, randomisation has played a huge roll. For factors minor and major. I was born a boy in a family of girls, my gender being brought up when talking about why i'm different, I was named after my father's fake name because he hated his own, and through a simple gaming limitation of 3 letters, I was named to that fact that the only reason im here is because one day my mum had to get a client who had a boot sale who had just had their kid move out who just happened to have an original xbox, what I, out of anything, chose.
Randomisation is present everywhere in life, from your genetics making your hair blond and your eyes blue to deciding if you will even live to your twenties. This rant is not the best organised or the best explained, that in apparent, and that's also due to Randomisation, as out of all the traits to give me in this world, from good looks, a receptive and well adaptable brain to even having a good immune system, I was sadly born and idiot who’s too lazy to learn.
Russian Roulette:
Russia's favorite game, throw one bullet into a revolvers chamber and give it a spin, see if when you pull the trigger your brains get splattered against a nearby wall or friend. In honesty, this game seems absolutely stupid, why would your risk your life and try to include others in endangering their own for near no gains? Is it because through this high risk there is and equally high reward for those who risk it?
Is it the thrill of having a loaded gun to your head, its chamber still spinning on its axle, hearing the clicks till it slows down, almost sounding like a clock as it finally lands on one, your heart is pumping worthlessly as adrenaline is surging through your body as fear tangos with excitement as your finger pulls, will you live or die? The conclusion is ever a sudden wave of euphoria, or the sudden coolness of a bullet, what also leaves you unable to feel anything bad, a win win.
Of course, the randomisation of this game is present in the gun itself, the bullet had usually only 6 locations it can go before it goes off, and one of the chambers is always aimed at your head, luck dictation if you have the wrong one.
Lottery:
Pay a pound, lose a pound, pay a pound, win a grand, the lottery is gambaling for the masses. The lottery is simple, its cheap and it's easy to get into, and to put one's mind at ease, even if you lose, all donations go to a good cause so what harm is it to go have a scratch and see if your one of the lucky few to win, what's not so uncommon, but its not thousands, usually it's a few pounds, maybe 2 pounds, perhaps a tenner if your lucky.
Lottery tickets are made in a variety of forms under a million different names yet are near drag and drops of each other, a rectangular card with a clean latex coating that can be rubbed away, revealing the contents underneath and to see if you win.
Of course, each card is made in a factory, with a few winners being made specifically for the purpose of not causing winnings to outweigh losers, this makes sense in a business standpoint, they are etrodinerely cheap to make, and extremely easy to store, but they lose money through winners, so they are far less produced, with some rolls of cards not even having a winner at all, be it the scratch off variant of number variants.

1-10・“We Worked Hard!”
Tumblr media
       ♡—Coliseum - Special Stage—♡
Everyone: .....
Jade: A ship...
Idia: That’s a ship...
Crowley: Th-There’s not a single remnant of the original coliseum left!
Ruggie: Shishishi! Everyone’s so surprised~
Leona: Ha, obviously. None of the other dorms made sets this large-scale.
Jack: Yeah! I think the way our Halloween turned out really reflects Savanaclaw!
If our stage is a ship, then obviously, for our costumes...
We’re pirates.
When I was in elementary school, I read a book about pirates who fought a huge crocodile while on a voyage...
I used to play pretend pirate a lot ‘cause I really idolized the main character, the captain.
I’d put on a hat, use a stick as my sword, and pretend to look for hidden treasure with my friends.
Kalim: Oh, I know that book! I played pretend pirate all the time~
Deuce: Me too. I guess it’s a famous children’s book all around the world.
Idia: That’s the “Adventures of the Moustached Captain,” series, right? I read all seven volumes and both spin-offs. Ortho read them in the past too.
Jack: When they said we had to wear costumes, I was reminded of dressing up as a pirate. And that became our theme this year.
Leona: Pirates sail the oceans with just their power and wit and nothing holding them back. They’re completely free.
It’s a fitting theme for a survival-of-the-fittest like Savanaclaw, isn’t it? A great idea coming from a little first-year.
Jack: Thank you!
So if we were going to dress up as pirates, we needed to have a ship...
And so we got one ready. It’s supposed to look like a sunken ship. You can go inside it too!
Since we’ve turned ourselves into the ghosts of daring pirates, who eternally guard their precious treasure...
We couldn’t skip the treasure either.
I tried my best to make replicas with examples Ruggie showed me.
And he’s so talented. I was amazed by how he just kept churning out copies of those gold coins.
Ruggie: Usually I never take side jobs that don’t bring me any money.
But, Halloween only comes around once a year. I worked hard for all that food we’re gonna get on the 31st!
Idia: Hnn... I don’t want to admit it, but even the inside looks like the real thing.
The shape of the ship is exactly how it is in the kid’s book. It’s like a live action version.
How did you build the ship? It’s actually there, not just an illusion, right? Was it Leona’s magic?
Jack: Huh? Magic?
Nope. All of us in Savanaclaw hauled the wood over and built it ourselves.
Idia: Wood... Wait, what? This whole set-up was built by hand!?
Jack: Yeah, it was... Does something look off?
Idia: No, no, something like this can’t even be considered a set anymore. This is full-on construction. And you guys just sweated away building this by hand...
Savanaclaw really is full of fitness beasts. No way could I ever do something like this.
Leona: Oi, radish sprout. If you’ve got any complaints then say ‘em louder.
Idia: I-I-It’s nothing...
Ruggie: Stuff like this is nothing special for us.
‘Cause we’re always doing magift training every morning anyway.
Crowley: Savanaclaw, which is always keeping up with their daily training, put their dorm-wide strength to good use...
This is a spectacular Halloween setup that embodies the wonders of adventure and loves from your childhood.
Next we’ll go to the library. Ignihyde is in charge of the decorations there!

How many works do you have on AO3?
248
What's your total AO3 word count?
235,871
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
44, if you lump all Marvel/MCU, all DC, and all Tolkien into one each. My top 5 by number of works are:
The Old Guard (Movie 2020) (54)
Good Omens (24)
due South (24)
The Hobbit (21)
Marvel Cinematic Universe (13)
Are there any new fandoms you want to write for?
I have a couple more ideas for Encanto, but I really go by what I have inspiration for. I don’t plan a lot of it.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Silver is the Moon  (The Old Guard (Movie 2020)) (595 words) Hits: 3229 Kudos: 467 - Joe being a mushball poet.
Calling Across the Sea  (Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett) (1347 words) Hits: 5522 Kudos: 376 - With Aziraphale hanging out in pre-colonial South America, Crowley invents a...shellphone. Also phone sex.
Teasing Means We Love You, Irritation Means You're Still Alive (The Old Guard (Movie 2020)) (625 words) Hits: 1690 Kudos: 299 - Guard family teasing.
Remedy (Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)) (2011 words) Hits: 5652 Kudos: 294 - Jim’s squirrelly, Bones “helps.”
Such Simple Trials  (Captain America (Movies), Agent Carter (TV), Marvel Cinematic Universe) (897 words) Hits: 1970 Kudos: 290 - Steve referees a push-up match and is hot for Peggy and Bucky.
Which of your fics do you want more attention for?
Ummm, all of them, I like attention. My Dragon Age Inquisition fics, probably. I love my big cheerful mercenary Adaar, you see, and like writing worldbuilding explanations for game mechanics.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes! I like hearing what people think and encouraging them to talk to me more. ^_^
What sorts of things do you normally write?
Character study and worldbuilding.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Menarche (Loki (TV 2021) - Sylvie in the early days of her childhood trauma tango...
What's a fic that pushed you out of your comfort zone?
Ehhh...
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you've written?
Yup. Probably Girl Genius & Unstoppable Wasp, if only for smushing two tiny fandoms together.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yup. A Jim/Scotty Star Trek fic with @intosnarkness and some other things not on Ao3. Nothing recent, though.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Lost some of my taste for the Discworld Watch (not the tv show) stuff I was floating around. Not writing cop-fic right now.
What are you currently working on?
A meet-the-new-immortals fic set between the current stories in The Guard goes to Space. And like five other things, but that’s the one that I’m focusing on.
What are your writing strengths?
Good words, feeelings.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Long stories. I can’t sustain a plot like that.
What was the first fandom you wrote for? Most recent?
Good Omens. Encanto.
What's your favorite fic you've written?
Currently Dates and Almonds (The Old Guard, Joe solves a problem) or Maudlin and Tipsy (Dragon Age Inquisition, Adaar’s unrequited crush).
What fic are you most proud of?
JL-6474 Clothes Company 77 (Star Wars, renegade stormtroopers build a community). I did a bunch of research for it and I really like the worldbuilding I put together.

The first automobile in Detroit was driven by Charles Brady King along Woodward Avenue on March 3, 1896, a few weeks before Henry Ford drove his first car in the city.[52] In 1909, the first mile (1.6 km) of concrete roadway in the country was paved between 6 and 7 Mile roads at a cost of $14,000 (equivalent to $2.17 million in 2015)
(I didn’t move to metro Detroit until late 1983, so a lot of the above was foreign to me)
