(ngl this also just turned into my character analysis of Ak!Jay’s psychological gymnastics from Comics ((AK Genesis & Batman: AK)) and games) (still wrote the comfort shit tho)

hc, but i dont think any jason todds like the rain. it reminds them too much of the time he was a kid, didnt have a place to stay and went to sleep cold and wet

or when he was still young and with his family, his apartment would get flooded.

BUT ANYWAYS—

alone, i dont think jason can comfort himself very well.

beats himself for it when its over, drops him back into a spiral

just very much not healthy

I Ramble Abt Jason Todd

post writing this, i feel like that one tweet thats like, ‘i never realized she was holding a plate of corn in this scene.’

Ak!Jays spirals or episodes come from two things, his self-esteem or self-worth, along with his lack of self-identity

Ak!Jason (Post/During AK) has a very hard time with his self worth, it solely stems from wanting to prove people wrong about himself. he obviously doesn’t like being perceived in the wrong way.

Ak!Jason (Post/During AK) says he’s move pasts his traumas, yet his identity and reasoning is constantly rooted in them, leading to so much contradictory dialogue and mental FUCKING GYMNASTICS.

ak!jay juggling if he wants to be loved by batman/batfam or wants to end it

i think he often ponders if he was better off being killed by the joker, or if he can really be redeemed from his actions as Arkham Knight by helping Gotham as Red Hood.

and if it’s enough for the people around him or someone to accept him.

if he can truly ever be loved

he has a lot of crisises about his identity and purpose more often then not b/c he cant find a reason for either besides his own anger and approval addiction.

, his biggest fear is losing, being worthless, and unwanted.

his constant drive is winning and proving himself as the best.

it causes his always feeling the need to prove himself, just so that hes wanted.

the first introduction of his internalized self-deprecation is with his father, other then the Arkham Knight Annual

though he rejects this “truth” in the Annual, showing his determination to prove himself more then what Bruce and the Joker idealizes him to be, I think its a good mirror into Jasons mind and what really makes him start cracking

Ex. , his biological father canonically telling him he was a loser growing up, and his mom seems to personify/objectify Jason as gothams gravitation keeping them in gotham.

another example is the way he is talked to throughout scarecrows psychotropic

throughout the comic and game he goes between or showing a desire for a connection with bruce and praising joker for his upbringing, then chastising them.

its very clear jason has an identity issue, with him isolating himself because he believes he is too broken (game dialogues), his need for validation stemming from his childhood, his fear of abandonment, and overall internal dilemmas of wanting a connection or not. obviously hes not good with working out his emotions on his own without doing considerably impulsive things.

jason wanting to be his own person v jason wanting to be a better person for the people in his life

He see’s the place he was tortured as a rebirth for him, along with his plan to destroy Gotham and Bruce.(AK: Genesis)

This only comes from his desire to want his own separate identity, by ending these cycles of Bruces actions and Gothams nightmares he also believes that he will be truly free.

his only true identification with himself is anger and resentment, being built, gravitated, and broken by anger. feeling like hes always losing or lost, and his desire to just win something and therefore be wanted

okay to stop a fuckton of more rambling jason todd, abandoment issues, jealousy/obsession issues, need for connection, validation, relationships, self-destructive isolation, brainwashing induced perception issue, intense mood swings which also cause perception issues.

i guess it could try to be argued that Jason doesn’t actually want validation bc he got over the psychotropic; but i disagree with the way he constantly talks about being underestimated and feeling like he has to prove himself throughout the comics and his dialogue with Barbra in game.

i also want to make it clear that throughout the ak!comics he does help civilians so it does really have morality for other people. He does separate Gothams Gravity from the people, and claims the worst of the worst (villains and such) are the people who succumb to gotham.

Ok Actually Comforting

so its pretty god damn hard to comfort this dude, he’s a chronic over analyzer, could probably turn anything and everything you say against himself or you, and yet would crave validation and intimacy.

which makes him a bit of a trip,, but i love him. so.

a lot of the time you’ll have to go with his flow

if its really bad he’ll isolate himself, he feels like he’s letting you down by breaking in front of you. He can’t let you see him as weak because to him its a liability for your relationship.

as well as the fact that his perception becomes very extreme/warped when very emotional. he’ll can range from believe your lying to him, to he’s not worth that kind of comfort and he’s wasting your time.

it takes a lot of patience for him to accept that he isnt an inconvenience to you and you do actually care

overtime, a lot of fucking time, he’ll slowly come around to this. instead of leaving for days or weeks at a time, Jason will leave for at most a day or two, but around midnight he’ll be home craving your presence.

he cant be alone again, he really doesn’t wanna be alone again, he needs to make sure you don’t wanna leave him.

probably just goes to sleep facing you, or holding your hand if hes feeling especially mushy.

he’d be so quiet, having the internal battle of leaving you or letting him feed into his desire of just having you around him.

Jason needs that in a partner! Someone who is warm to him! someone who makes him feel wanted or needed! Someone who makes him feel safe!

I think if you catch him just as he gets triggered/begins to spiral, you can help him not crash out.

Being over the top mushy with him isnt gonna work, he needs someone to ground him and be 100% with him.

sometimes he doesn’t need to talk or just doesn’t want to, again presence.

but acknowledging him every now and then to make sure he knows your not brushing him off or forgot about him.

when you’re in a closer relationship he definitely just wants you in his arms, needs to hold you close.

Home-cooked meals with him, justing going about your life with him, making him feel wanted, making him feel acknowledged.

i think he’d open up every now and then, but i think he’s also still a self-assured person who needs guidance at the right time. to just be sure he’s on the right path and youre with him.

one of his triggers is his own jealousy, accidentally making him feel like he’s replaceable or him believing you’ll get tired of him.

he needs so much reassurance.

just be there with him, guide him, love him, make sure he’s on the right path.

he needs a lot of things, sometimes its naps, sometimes its food, sometimes just to be in your arms, sometimes to help you cook, sometimes watching you work, sometimes he’ll have you lay your back on his chest and read with him, sometimes he just wants to fall asleep with you, sometimes he wants to cry in your arms, JUSDHRIDJDJDISO JASON TODD COME HOME WE MISS YOUUUU

What are some relationship (not just romantic, but any type of relationship) headcanons you have for the chain (plus people like Malon, the Zeldas, etc)?

So I'm generally not good at picking up subtle parts of platonic relationships for the Chain because Jojo is really good at subtle writing. I have autism. Enough said. Anyway, I'll just focus on romantic relationships for the Chain and kinda expand on the Zeldas because I feel some are headcanons that very few people have for the Links and Zels. (A lot of my ideas for the Zeldas come from my Hylia's Heroines AU where all the Zeldas meet)

I'm not usually the type to come up with romance related headcanons, but I adore the canon ones between Time and Malon, and Sky and Sun. There's something so tooth-rottingly sweet between each of their relationships, even if we only see Sky's through his perspective. Another one I like the idea of is Hyrule and Aurora, who's the Zelda from Link's Adventure. The idea I have for her is a kind of energetic girl with traits like of Legend. Very sarcastic and good with humour, quite sassy. I love her. Their love almost comes off as puppy love, it's very sweet and affectionate.

Not talking about Aurora and Hyrule, the different Zeldas are obviously my interpretations because we haven't seen a single Zelda in the actual comic (bar Flora in a flashback for a single panel). I'll split it into sections coz it's easier to read that way.

Basically co-workers;

Time and Lullaby, Twi and Dusk, and Wars and Athena(/Artemis) fall under this category, but in different ways. While Twi and Dusk spent very little time together and thus don't know each other on too friendly of a level, Time and Lullaby basically worked to saved Hyrule together, though by differing means based on the timeline. I imagine Time became a little connected to Lullaby in the Adult Timeline, which carried over to the Child Timeline and they became friendly as kids after Time reported Ganondorf as a traitor. After he left for Majora's Mask and returned to Hyrule, I think the two would have reconnected. They're riding the line between co-workers and basically siblings lol.

Warriors and Athena fought a war together, they bond based on trauma but due to the fact that their relationship was solely formed during the war and is between a soldier and a princess, they keep it professional. It's likely to furthest Wars got was possibly becoming a battle advisor/planner.

Siblings

Legend and Fable being siblings is one of my favourite relationship headcanons the fanon has. I have no idea where it came from but its very interesting, one of my current favourite LU fics follows this idea. In my eyes, they're very distant since Legend grew up outside of the castle. They're still civil but it's almost like Legend isn't a prince at all.

Another one is Dawn (Zelda 1) and Hyrule, though they're similarly a little bit distant towards each other, though they aren't actually siblings. Dawn takes a lot more after Fable than Aurora and there's a whole succession crisis thats happening now that there's a second princess in the mix. There's a lot of resentment and petty arguing, which includes playing homeworker and messing with each others love lives. Hyrule's aware of it but doesn't really know the extent because of his complete lack of knowledge about court politics. He stays away from Dawn mostly out of respect to Aurora but is civil when needing to interact with Dawn.

Tetra and Wind too! I see Tetra as an adult and grew up thinking that so I place them squarely in the sibling section. They're very close actually, they feel a bit like best friends lol.

Friendly (but in differing ways)

Four and Dot come to mind - I see them as second cousins because of their connections to Sky and Sun. They grew up together so their childhood besties basically, but it's like remixed because they're cousins so it makes it closer I guess? It's a bit chaotic post-Four Swords, but they manage lol.

Wild and Flora are here too, they reconnected after BotW and hang around each other. It's prob really hard to get a monarchy going again after Hyrule's governed by independant states so she likely just wanders around with him and does scscieny things. Technically Tetra and Wind fit in here too, on Legend and Fable on a good day. Oh, and Time and Lullaby. Yeah some ride the lines between categories and get honorary placements lol.

Honourable Mentions!

For the other love interests! Twilight has Midna and Ilia. It's a bit complicated for him, I think hes got a forbidden love kinda thing going on with Midna, but does eventually get with Ilia coz it's considered the right decision for him. There will always be that longing for Midna though.

Wild and Mipha are complex too, Mipha obviously loved the person who Wild used to be, but it's up in the air whether it was reciprocated due to things such as his position and his role and expectation etc. I personally think its an alliance thing - Rhoam's relations with the Zora is getting rocky, and there isn't a Zora Prince for his previous Zelda to marry, but there is a princess who seems to fawn over Zelda's bodyguard. Wild likely doesn't hold any such feelings for her in BotW due to the detattchment between him and his previous self, but still feels and understands what happened as most people remember their memories through the emotions they felt in the moment.

Legend and Ravio definitely have something going on, whether it be a once begrudging friendship turned close or a bromanceof some kind, no one really knows and they certainly don't either. All they know is that since they're living together in close proximity anyway, might a well just chill out within arms reach of each other.

And any relationship that came about amongst Skyloft's Knight Academy is solely Sky's doing. He's playing matchmaker and sussing out who's in who's mind. I imagine the thing with Patrice was genuine and they did like each other for a small amount of time before Sky discovered he loved Sun, but Patrice knew it wouldn't work out because he's searching for Sun and could almost sense the longing he had for his best friend. It didn't really matter if it was platonic or romantic longing, but Patrice knew it wouldn't work out so she split it off. It was nice for a while.

And my girl Linkle! She's is wholly underrepresented in this fandom which is a complete injustice. I imagine that she is Wars' older sister that donned her green clothes to protect both her country, her farm, and what was left of her family. I have a whole rewrite for Hyrule Warriors in a Google Doc that makes Linkle a part of the main story, wherein she creates a friendship with Lana and Midna, and I feel that for some reason I may have made Linkle and Midna connect a little too much for it to not come off as romantic. Who knows, maybe Midna just has a thing for farm-living heroes in green?

🧏‍♀️ DEAF SIGNING GIRL - do they have any disabilities? (if so) what are they?

MARA: yes <3 girlie has sooo much ptsd and autism. she doesn't have any physical disabilities aside from like the general chronic pain issues that living in a nuclear wasteland brings, although some nerves in her face are damaged and she deals with some minor facial paralysis

RED: also ptsd and autism #slay she also has psychosis although it kind of varies in severity, it's pretty low level and doesnt affect her life a ton for the most part but she will kind of occasionally slip into periods of debilitating paranoid delusions with hallucinations sprinkled in for extra flavor. its initially caused by all the trauma but her little months-long drug bender during fnv definitely uhh made that worse lol. her hearings also impaired later in life (gradually gets worse the longer shes been living in the wasteland)

NIX: another autistic girlie omg <3 as for physical disabilities i am not sure!! i have been thinking about making her chronically ill but i have yet to settle on if she is/if so which specific illness

👖 JEANS - what is their most iconic outfit?

MARA: i think her most instantly recognizable outfit like to other wastelanders is the minutemen general uniform but i like her retiree outfit which is a pink plaid button up and some grey slacks

RED: the merc veteran outfit OH OR the tunnel snakes jacket!!!

NIX: not a full outfit ig but DEFINITELY her gecko skin jacket

🌵 CACTUS - what is a sore subject for them?

MARA: her exes tbh ... talking about cait has been unofficially banned by nick for everyones sake. also she hates talking about her husband outside of like. opening up about trauma associated with him/her old life. but he doesnt come up as much because he fawking died before anyone could meet him lol whereas cait was like in the besties companion group before the breakup

RED: her dad oh my god. pretty much anything about the vault tbh she is coping by pretending none of it exists and ignoring it

NIX: theres no sore subjects for her really like. she will get sad talking about bad things that happened to her obviously but she never gets angry at people for bringing something up and she tries her best to stay positive - like if the bighorners come up in conversation shell try and talk about like things they taught her or good times she had with them instead of getting upset thinking about howthey umm Died

🍲 SOUP - do they like to cook? are they good at it?

MARA: she LOVES cooking omg. that post thats like fallout 4 shouldve let the sole survivor make all those weird gross 50's foods she does that 100%. she is good at it too!! she has her little besties group over for dinner every week and she cooks almost every time :)

RED: red doesnt really like cooking for the most part BUT she is so good at grilling meat or veggies over a fire. autism be damned my kid can work a grill

NIX: nix is so fucking good at cooking but ONLY on a campfire. if you tried to teach her how to use an oven or a stove she would start crying. she loves making weird meals out of random parts of animals and plants!! it doesnt always come out great but she gets so excited thinking up new recipes<3 arcade is so scared about it hes like someday you are going to suck the venom out of a radscorpion venom gland and die and shes like ok sunburn boy

🏀 BASKETBALL - do they know any pre-war sports? do they like to play any?

MARA: mara never played sports but she liked to watch baseball and hockey sometimes!!

RED: red is #1 baseball fan of ever she loved playing it in vault 101 she was so good at batting. she sucked at like every other part of it though lol

NIX: nix does not know what a sport is and the concept confuses her. "how is that different from a game?? why does it get a different name thats dumb"

🚆 TRAIN - what is their answer to the trolley problem?

MARA: mara would kill the one person to save the 5 but she would get so like fucked up about it. every night when she closes her eyes she sees the face of that one person as the trolley grows closer and closer. she falls back into alcoholism

RED: red would walk away from the lever. "thats none of my business i dont even know these people"

NIX: nix would somehow like reprogram the trolley in those 15 seconds before it runs a bunch of people over and save everyone involved because shes a genius

🧹 BROOM - how clean or messy are they usually? do their cleaning habits (or the opposite) annoy the people around them?

MARA: mara is very messy and clumsy but she does her best to like clean up after herself after shes done doing whatever she was doing

RED: red is kind of a slob tbh. when she was a kid she would have to get like all her comics taken away and banned from hanging out with amata and cyan or playing baseball to be motivated to clean up her room

NIX: nix is neat but only because like. the way she was raised 1) she never really had a ton of stuff in the first place? so it was hard to be messy when there wasnt a ton of stuff to make a mess with. 2) her family was nomadic so there wasnt a lot of time to make a mess wherever she was, and if she did make a mess around camp she always helped clean it up before they packed up and moved again because a lot of emphasis was placed on not messing up the land and leaving it how they found it (this was partially for safety reasons as they were pretty much constantly being tracked by bounty hunters or the ncr, and partially just because respect for the environment was important to the bighorners) and 3) not wasting supplies was important, wastefulness was frowned upon and supplies were never really in great abundance so every time you cooked or sewed or tinkered or anything you took those scraps and turned them into something else useful instead of just tossing them aside

🧸 TEDDY BEAR - what are their thoughts on children? do they have any / would they ever have any and home many?

MARA: mara LOVES kids so much, she used to be a middle + elementary school art teacher before the war and she was so excited about having shaun. she brought synth shaun with her when she left the institute, and she is raising him with her wife (curie). i think one kid is more than enough for her right now when shes still dealing with a bunch of minutemen and railroad responsibilities but once she retired if there were like orphans that needed adopting she would 100% be down to have more kids!! she is not getting pregnant ever again though. she didnt even really want to when she had shaun before the war, and the idea of being pregnant in the wasteland is a million times less appealing

RED: red loves kids she thinks theyre so funny and cute and she is like uncharacteristically kind to them compared to adults. i dont think shed be a good parent though lol and she knows that so while i think when shes older shed love to be like an aunt or something she does not want to have kids of her own. she kind of does anyway though um LOL in my fo4 playthrough i know 100% she would never leave synth shaun behind to die so she brings him to sanctuary and asks jun and marcy to look after him but he still like is programmed to believe shes his mother so she visits and hangs out with him whenever she can. i think she likes him even if being called mom is soooo uncomfortable 2 her

NIX: nix thinks kids are cooler than adults <3 but its definitely hard for her to make friends her age since shes like #weird :( she has not thought much about having kids

🏳️‍🌈 PRIDE FLAG - what is their sexuality?

breaking format for this but mara + red are both lesbians and nix umm idk she hasnt really thought about it

♍️ VIRGO - what is their zodiac?

breaking format again oops but red is the only one with a canon birthday (july 13, so shes a cancer) lol idk enough abt astrology to assign mara and nix zodiacs

🍒 CHERRIES - a random sweet headcanon.

MARA: i think mara and the vault tec rep guy have little lunches when shes in sanctuary!! they are friends :)

RED: she lets bittercup give her a little makeover one time and i think it sparks a love for nail polish <33

NIX: stories from arcade, the medical supplies shes donated & help shes offered, and just her generally likeable personality have all made nix really well-liked around the old mormon fort and at least one of the Followers always has some sort of little present for her when she comes around to visit

🧨 DYNAMITE - a random angsty headcanon.

MARA: most of mara's family is essentially immortal, and its hard for her to deal with. her son, her wife, and two of her closest friends will all stay the same as she ages and eventually dies and it scares her

RED: red finds it really hard to work with robotics after the events of fallout 3. tinkering with machinery and robots was a favorite hobby of hers, one of the first things about the wasteland that she truly enjoyed and that let her start to let go of her vault life and accept living in the wasteland, but her tremor makes the more delicate work almost impossible and some of the tech is just too reminiscent of the enclave for her

NIX: even by the end of fnv nix still doesnt remember her family in its entirety, although by this point she knows she has amnesia and she knows there are several people who were in her life but she cant remember. she feels really guilty about it, thinks if she really had cared about them then she'd remember

alright, here we go:

i obviously hate the guy now, but back when i used to really like and respect ryan, i still never found him as funny as everyone else. there definitely are bangers and iconic moments he had, but most of what i remembered fondly was because of the people around him.

personally, i believe gavin is great, both on his own, and when he bounces off of other people to get a laugh from them and the audience. jack of all trades and shit. ryan's humor worked for me almost solely due to how the others reacted to him. you know how he played up the whole "wholesome dad with slightly edgy/creepy humor" persona? i laughed my ass off when someone like jack or geoff was like "what the fuck is wrong with you?" when he casually said something off-putting.

when ryan did the same thing during, say, a solo twitch stream, it just didn't grab my attention as much unless i was looking at reactions from the live chat. it didn't hit the same, but it was the closest i could've gotten to that feeling. what i felt when watching his solo streams is something i can put in another, Much shorter ask, but basically, i felt that the vibes were Off, so i didn't watch his streams as much as many other fans in the community did.

because of all of this, i miss the collaborative jokes, like that pubert thing, that ryan played a larger part in. with other stuff, i can push ryan out just fine, but if it's something he directly started or contributed a lot towards, it feels much more awkward for me to listen to, knowing all the nasty shit he was doing when the cameras turned off.

I really liked Ryan way back when. He was the favorite AH member of a best friend of mine, hell I knew a kid who named themselves after one of his characters names. His dark humour seemed like a kind of silly act and that the real guy was the open family guy who was explicitly supportive of the queer fans. Hell a lot of the fans he especially attracted were the queer AH and RT fans because of this. He built this image if himself perfectly. Its only now in retrospect that any of us can see what was wrong, what wasn't really a joke and happening behind the scenes.

Like I would get annoyed by Ryan (especially when he bullied Matt I would sit there and think of what I would have yelled at him while watching Galacticraft and often have to replay bits from 5 mins earlier okay i got MAD) but I never saw outward criticism of these patterns until after because, as a fan favourite, those perceptive people who noticed something offncouldn't speak out without being silenced.

Like his whinyness, his entitlement and argumentative ways seemed like a joke or a bit back then so I could put up with it but now we know it wasn't a joke, that it was tiring for the other AH members, that he'd do the same thing to get what he wanted from those girls. It makes my skin crawl knowing what we know now.

Streams especially make it obvious looking back. But I never watched and still don't watch AH members stream as I need a LOT to focus on live stuff, so I never noticed the disconnection. I thought them not streaming together was a rule like the one that made Ray leave. Ryan's deliberate disconnection ftom the others in streams, where he found a few of his victims in chat, made sense because AH had no way of seeing chat or his behaviour and his mods were essentially powerless to do anything because if he wanted them to not know something, he could do it easily. It was the perfect area where he had ultimate control

Hell I could have easily have been in the same position of many of those girls. At the height of his behaviours I was completely isolated from friends and family, at the lowest point in my life using content to fight away depression qnd had latched onto an unhealthy relationship. The only thing that stopped me from joining the community was that I found Ryans streams boring as shit. And thats because I have adhd and autism that makes my viewing tastes and times incredibly specific.

completely and most definitely a mortal. there is definitely nothing weird about any of the things that happen here. the fact that they’ve avoided death so much that they literally outnumber the winchester bros combined is,,,completely a coincidence. the fact that they met team free will at eleven and have only aged like,,,,,four years is,,,,,just a weird character trait!!! there is completely nothing going on here. now that you know that they are (completely) human, we can move on.

they kinda just,,,,slipped in to the bois lives around season two. like the bros saved them from a vampire and they just,,,kept showing up. eventually the bois just handed charlie a flannel and called it a day.

they don’t really like killing things but they could literally kill god. (not really, they just like to talk loudly about that in front of chuck)

usually they spend their time hanging in the bunker and other various places

they have the uncanny ability to just...be places. like they just hang with crowley in hell and death likes to go out for food with them. like, they’re just endearing enough to make everyone not hate them.

muggleborn slytherin who probably belongs in hufflepuff. probably could smash hermione to the ground with their grades if they actually handed any assignments in. they most definitely suck up to their professors.

they were killed at like sixteen in the marauders era, then reincarnated but like they still had their memories. obviously they couldn’t do anything about their own death so they just chilled.

child prodigy who literally got through high school by smoking weed and asking their teachers extensively uncomfortable questions.

they’re basically just a kid from earth who tagged along and when the doctor finally realized they were there,,,,the gang was already surrounded by aliens and charlie was talking so fast and so rudely that they annoyed the aliens into putting them to death. at which point they decked the leader and smashed a chair over another dudes head.

kid of hecate who fights with a full on axe. just...a battle axe. the head of it is almost as big as their torso. they have big dick energy and also big axe energy.

they spend most of their time in arts and crafts. you know those beads that everyone’s got? yeah charlie be making those.

ch’laey was part of an alien species that was enslaved in a similar way to the concentration camps. their species was kept for fourteen sun rotations until ch’laey came into their powers, at which point they fought their way out of the camp. the enslaving force massacred the entire camp, and ch’laey escaped to earth, where world war one was in full swing. they hooked up with diana prince, and the rest is funnier.
