hello kind people of tumblr, my partner and i are in need of help. my partner is a tattoo artist, and a highly talented one at that. you can check out his work on instagram here. unfortunately, he was wrongly replaced at the tattoo shop he worked at in favor of nepotism and someone's bestie being given a job there. since then, he's been freelancing and having tattoo appointments at home. however, his printer broke last night and can't be fixed. it will cost more than we can afford to replace it so he is now without one, meaning he cannot do tattoos. a decent quality one will cost about $1000, and on top of rent and bills (i'm on food stamps) and feeding our cats, we're not in a place to purchase one. if he can't do tattoos, we have no money. if anyone has enough kindness to spare and wants to help us, you can send donations to paypal here!

please share this so it gets around, because tattooing is our main source of income and we need it to get by. thank you so much for taking the time to read this and help us out! we will be so grateful for even the littlest donation, it makes a difference!

Any other neurodivergent artists just kinda end up depicting themselves with like....I don't know, a kind of split of some sort?

Like, maybe there's you and this part of you that just causes you issues, or there's you and the part of you that you need to do stuff but doesn't always cooperate, or you and the part of you that you find useful but sometimes overtax....that kind of stuff.

I'm aware of systems and figure y'all have your own cans of worms I'm not quite familiar with, but this is about whether a decision to depict my focus as a cat that really likes what I like and otherwise just doesn't really help when I need it is not entirely just a me thing.

First art of the new year is all about re-structuring your internal monologue.

In my early 20s I was working full time in London with many social commitments and a variety of hustles and side projects.

In my later mid 20s I cater to many sensory and social drain needs I have and indulge in special interests while respecting my lower energy reserves and celebrating my different way of processing the world.

Did I get more autistic? Nah. I got less fake.

A non-exhaustive list of the ways autistic people may show empathy even though we are assumed to not have it.

Are these exclusive to autistic people? No, not at all, we're just more often pathologized for them.

If I'm in a relationship with someone who does this, does that mean I just have to suck it up even if it doesn't work for me? No, it doesn't, but you do probably have some adjusting to do. You'll need to treat it as a mutual miscommunication instead of something it's all on the autistic (or ADHD, or whatever) person to fix. You'll have to change some of your expectations and get comfortable asking for (and explaining) the show of empathy you need - and you may even find out that the way you show empathy isn't working so great for them either. 😉
