Some R&B artists such as Ray Charles, Little Richard,James Brown, and Aretha Franklin has ranked the most influential and innovative R&B performers. R&B artists would perform and sing at places such as: block parties, dances and talent shows.
Louis Jordan has created R&B in the 1950’s. Louis Jordan first started singing with a band and joined band members from Jesse Stone band. His band is called Tympany Five. Their band would be at the Elks Rendezvous club in Harlem. Louis Jordan would play saxes and do vocals. His other band members such as Courtney Williams playing the trumpet, Lem Johnson playing tenor sax, Clarence Johnson playing the piano, Charlie Drayton as bass and Walter Martin playing the drums. In the 1940s Jordan has released a dozen of hit songs such as Saturday Night Fish Fry, Blue Light Boogie, Ain’t nobody here but us chickens, Buzz me, and one of his biggest hits was Caldonia. Louis Jordan was also known as the “ King of the Jukebox” because himself and his group Tympany Five dominated the 1940s R&B charts for the “ race charts” back then. Jordan became more popular after he had a hit with Decca records, which was a good thing because it helped to make him as popular with whites as with blacks.
R&B is a music genre that combines rhythm, blues, pop, soul, funk, hip-hop and electronic music, which combines soulful singing and a strong back beat. It started from African American 1940s Blue’s with rhythm taken from Jazz.
Rap Battles can be written with some complex rhyming techniques. There is a poetic flow. Rapping was done at parties to engage with the crowd and to keep the party fun and hype. When Coke La Rock was free styling, others began to start to pick it up and try it out as well. After that rapping has got record companies/labels attention, But some companies weren’t interested to invest money towards rap. Six years later Coke La Rock emerged a rap song. During the summer of 1979 a band named Fatback has released a rap song called “King Tim.
Coke La Rock is known as one of the first rapper to ever spit rhymes after joining DJ Herc in 1973. They are also both recognized as the creators of hip-hop. They realized it’s improtant to rap at a party because it will become more fun and entertain everyone! During one of these parties Coke La Rock spit his first bar which was: “ There’s not a man that can’t be thrown, not a horse that can’t be rode, a bull that can’t be stopped, there’s not a disco that I Coke La Rock can’t rock”.
Hip-Hop is a culture of art movement. It started in the early 1970’s in the Bronx of New York City. Hip-Hop culture spread to both urban and suburban communities in united states.The founder of Hip-Hop culture was Clive Campbell known as DJ Kool Herc.
