Jae-Mean
Na Jaemin x Male Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cw: idol au, top jaemin, pwp, sex toys, excessive use of lube, reader is part of dream, fingering, dumbification.
an: he's getting so big, need him asap 😵‍💫
“are you ok yn?” asked renjun patting his back, “yeah i'm ok.. just a bit tired” he answered while catching his breath. all the members were practicing the dance for the new comeback but everyone realized that yn looked strange, well everyone except jaemin who tried hard to hide his smirk “yes yn tell us if you need a break” said jaemin with fake concern in his voice.
no one knew about it but yn and jaemin had a relationship based only in sex, as a way to “relieve some stress”.
jaemin is a bit mean with yn when it's about to sex, for example, one time he marked him everywhere, that when the fans saw one of the hickeys yn had to lie saying that an insect had bitten him, or that one time that just before an interview jaemin fucked the other mercilessly and he had to endure the pain for more than an hour while sitting.
“i think i'm going to my dorm to rest a bit” said yn getting ready to leave, “wait let me help you” jaemin offers himself while running towards yn.
“you're a psycho.. jaemin”, sighs yn, “i can't hold it anymore”; “come on ynnie just a little more” jaemin smirks again patting his back “it'll all be over soon”...
in the dorm, yn was with his face on the bed and ass up while jaemin was fingering him. “shiiit yn, you did it so well holding in all this lube”. his fingers going in and out, soaked in lubricant, while the rest dripped little by little from the dilated hole of the smaller one “you're gonna pay for this jaemin” whimpered the bottom, hiding his flushed face on the mattress, trying to hide the moans.
jaemin just smirked, continuing fingering out the lube and with the other hand stroking his cock “shush ynnie just relax and let me take care of you”.
minutes after going to the choreography rehearsal jaemin called yn and made a bet with him, “come on don't be boring, what’s so hard about keeping half a bottle of lube inside your ass. just imagine the sounds it’ll make when i fuck it out of you” he whispered that last part near yn's sensitive neck. “what the fuck!” yn yells “you're a sick pervert”; “i will buy you food for the rest of the month” jaemin added… “deal” quickly answered yn.
“here i go”, jaemin scooped some of the lube that was in the bed sheets and smeared it in his big veiny cock “i'm gonna fuck out all that lube out of you” he slowly put the tip inside and then slammed himself making the bed squeak and drawing a muffled moan out of yn. jaemin was fascinated by the sounds caused by the excess of lube "it feels so good augh.. and .. fuck.. so wet.. shit, i won't be able to control myself yn".
he thrusted so hard that some of the lube splashed and landed on yn's back and jaemin's abs. yn kept his face down on the mattress, jerking himself, “i love how you act so feisty against me but as soon as my cock enters you, you become the most submissive whore in all the world” jaemin blurted out, yn clenched his hole when he heard that, “i felt that you whore” he laughs.
the taller was gripping so hard that he left marks on each side of yn's waist, “come here” he grabbed yn by the shoulders pulling him towards him, now yn's back was leaning on jaemin's chest, "damn you look so fucked up" he mocked. yn had hooded eyes and some drool falling from his mouth, his face was still the same or even redder than before. “i can't take it anymore” he cried.
jaemin lay down on the bed letting yn ride him but with a vibrator inside his ass. "hold on a little longer yn, now just focus on riding me" said the top. little did yn know that the vibrator inside of him was one of those controlled via an app, an app that jaemin was searching on his phone “found it” he murmurs and press the button with the number 1 right away.
“oh my fucking go-” yn rolled back his eyes, the vibration sending shivers to his whole body. on the other side jaemin was trying hard to hold in his moans, the vibrations sending waves of pleasure to his shaft. “fuckkkk~” yelled the taller when he pressed the number 2 button, the vibration increased therefore the stimulation too, jaemin could no longer control himself, he's now growling like a wild beast while yn tried not to cum.
the phone slipped from jaemin's hand and when he tried to grab it he accidentally pressed the number 5 button…
they both had an orgasm at the same time thanks to the vibrator at maximum speed, jaemin's cock squirted lots of sperm into yn's ass, some of it sliding down his shaft and falling to the sheets. yn also came, his cock spurted a lot too and some of it reached jaemin's face. “take it out jaeee~” begged yn, the overstimulation hitting them both “i fucking.. caa~an't i feel so.. weak” replied the taller.
luckily the battery of the vibrator died so it stopped minutes later, jaemin’s cock slipped out of yn's ruined hole along with the vibrator. feeling so tired yn fell on top of jaemin falling asleep with the other doing the same seconds later.

My Love Mine All Mine
a ‘na jaemin x male reader’ smau!
na jaemin and y/n l/n have known each other for years. inseparable since they met—graduating school together—landing their first job together—quitting together. hell, they even had their first kiss with one another. but it’s never been like that—their relationship doesn’t go beyond platonic soulmate-ism. romantic feelings never seem to cross their minds even after years of their friends (and friends of friends) continuously asking whether or not they were dating. it isn’t until jaemin’s love life suddenly starts to pick up where y/n feels conflicted on his feelings.

Jaemin x Jisung x Male Reader
Tumblr media
"There's an urgent call for you." A staff whispered to Y/N. The said boy grabbed his phone and walked out of the practice room. Biting his lip, he pressed answer.
"Eomma?"
"Hi, this isn't Mrs Lee. I'm sorry, sir, your parents got into a car accident."
"W-what?"
"I'm really sorry. This is Seoul Hospital calling."
"T-thank you." Y/N shakily pressed the end call button, feeling his heart in his throat and unable to breathe.
He made a beeline for the practice room, grabbing his bag and dashing out the door, pulling on a jacket, cap, and mask.
Getting into the nearest idol car, he quickly asked to go to Seoul Hospital, the driver going as soon as Y/N closed the door.
Y/N got there fifteen minutes later. He rushed to the front desk and asked hurriedly for his parents, heading down the hallway to the waiting room.
Hours passed, with no sign of his parents name. He switched on his phone only to see multiple messages from Jaemin and Jisung, coupled with over a hundred missed calls form each.
He called Jaemin, the latter picking up on the first ring.
"Y/N, where are you?"
"I'm at the hospital." Y/N said softly. "My parents got into a car accident."
"Wait for us, wer ecoming." Jaemin said, and hung up.
With Jaemin and Jisung by his side, the hours ticked by faster.
"Family of Lee Su-Hyeong?"
"Is he okay?" Y/N blurted, worry washing over him.
"Your father will be perfectly fine." The doctor informed with a warm smile. "Your mother is doing great too, we expect to see a full recovery."
"Thank you, doctor." Y/N bowed gratefully. They went up to the ward and Y/N cautiously knocked, pushing the door open.
"Y/N/N?"
"Eomma, what happened? Why did you yget into an accident? Did you let Appa drive again?"
"No. No." Mrs Lee said. "Another car was in the wrong lane."
"Oh, well... I'm glad you're fine. The doctors said you'd make a full recovery."

Their hopeless fate
Na jaemin x male reader x lee jeno
Tumblr media
Warning: mentions of torture, slight angst, mentions of bullying (jeno and jaemin), character deaths (not these three), slight horror.
Hello everyone! I'm back with another fic. Once again I hope you guys like this fic as well and thank you to anyone who read and support my stories. Love you all!
this fic contains boy's love and polyamorous relationship (multiple partners relationships) if you are uncomfortable with that, please see yourself out I won't hesitate to block or report you if I see any harmful words directed towards me or my works which I don't appreciate.
They were the most well known in the city.
Being born from the most wealthiest families, jaemin and jeno were what you would call egotistic rich kids. They would mock others that are below them. They would go as far as threatening them if they don't do what they are told to do.
They always wanted to go and face the unknown so they only need to ask their families so that they will allow them to go. Their families did allow them but on one condition that they bring a priest from the temple to help them.
Jeno and jaemin were mad. They didn't need some priest or priestess from the temple to help them. They can handle their own.
But when they got out of their homes equipped with their gears to start their adventures, they were met with a boy similar to their age waiting at the front gate.
Y/n l/n was his name and he was the priest that was supposed to accompany them.
Jeno looked at him and notice his quite normal clothing. His face grimaced. "Was he supposed to travel with a commoner?"
Jaemin on the other hand was fuming on the inside. How dare such a mere apprentice priest accompany them, his parents have lost their minds!
Still nothing could be changed so they let him go with them.
Y/n was shy, that's what they picked up from their 15 minutes walk outside the city gates. He doesn't talk to them until he is spoken to and even then he will only mutter a word or two, which also annoyed jeno because he doesn't like it when people ignore him.
Jaemin was getting impatient. He heard that the forest was surrounded by monsters but then where are they? They've been walking around the forest for the past 30 minutes.
He was about to scream in anger when y/n stops in his tracks.
They're here...
Suddenly wolves and slimes came out of the bushes in front of them and attacked.
Luckily, jeno got in front just in time to shield them from the attacks while jaemin uses his claymore to kill all of the wolves in their way.
Y/n tries to help them by healing their injuries and inflict debuffs on the wolves and slimes such as moving slower or rendering them blind.
Soon enough, they managed to defeat the large amount of monsters in the area. Y/n decided to check both of the older boys just to make sure they don't have any injuries. once he was finished and they have rested well enough, they move forward.
But just as they move through the forest into the mystical woodland, they were stopped by the elves. They told the crew that the area is contaminated by evil at the moment and that traveler should go away and find safety.
Jeno and jaemin however find this to be a way to make their adventure more exciting and decide to help the elves vanquish the evil.
The elves looked skeptical, wondering if these two humans are strong or not until they see Y/n.
While normal life forms can't see it, but other life forms can. Y/n was wearing shorts with knee high socks that holds very powerful daggers. The aura that it carries made the elves know that these humans are trustworthy and decides to let them go forward.
The three humans follow the elves to a clearing which holds the elf leader. He was absolutely pretty as an elf. Jeno and jaemin were practically head over heels over the elf leader and tries to bluntly flirt with him. Huang renjun, which was his name was not amused and demanded that they go deal with the unnatural causes at once.
However because the woodland needed the power of renjun in order to stabilize it, he journeyed with them to the source of contamination. The handsome duo still tried to win the elf's heart, but he just show no interest in them. Y/n had to pull them back to stop them from embarrassing themselves.
They did find it, but in a sad way...
It was in one of the elf folks specifically renjun's sick mother. It was very heartbreaking for renjun to end his own mother's life. Y/n did try his best to cleanse the evil and restore her life back but it was no use.
After the peace have been restored to the mystical woodland, renjun secretly give a blessing to all three of them, to make sure they are safe. He also rejected jeno and jaemin's confession, saying that their fated partner is not him. They all look at y/n who was playing in a flower meadow with the younger elves. Y/n was really gifted with beauty.
They both pouts while walking back to the city, tired of their little adventure. They had fun and Y/n was also a helpful boy despite being so quiet and timid. When they reached the city, everyone had their eyes on them. They sweat at this, had something happened?
Y/n looks back and forth from the people to jeno and jaemin, finding out that they weren't looking at those two. They were looking at him. He looks down as the memories fills him. He broke the oath, that's why they're looking at him like that.
I'm sorry jeno.... Jaemin...
They barely have time to react before Y/n pulls them out of the city as the mobs of people follows them with weapons. Knowing that he no longer have to keep the priest act, he took out his daggers and starts throwing them at the mob, effectively killing them.
Quick! This way!
He pulls them into a hidden cave in the woods before covering their breaths.
Jeno: you better explain to us why we're being hunted down?!
Y/n: I really wanted to tell you guys but I couldn't find myself to.
Jaemin: just tell us what happened you little shit?
Y/n: they wanted to kill you! Are you happy?! They wanted me to subdue you guys and bring you back to the city so that they can execute you guys!
Both men were stunned by the revelations. They didn't knew that the city wanted them dead.
Jeno: wait what about our parents?
Y/n: they're even worse. They wanted to make you scream, torture you and skin you alive before executing you. Said that they hired me to get rid of them because the gods forbid people who have sinned.
Jaemin: they said that they accepted us, does that mean their love... Was fake all along?
Y/n: we can get pay back you know? You only need to hold my hand and let the power consume you..
Jeno and jaemin look at each other, their lives before, the happiness of always being on the top. None of that mattered anymore now that they know, their entire lives were a lie.
They look at each other and nod. They look at y/n who smile was like the radiant sun. They remembered what renjun said and smiled.
They hold y/n hands before jeno kisses y/n. They melted into the kiss as jaemin takes a turn, devouring y/n lip. The power inside them grows as the passionate make out continues causing the area around then to crumble.
Renjun feel the crumble and only smile.
Humans are truly foolish, I just feel sorry for them.
The trio went back into the city, only this time the mobs and people were afraid. The power of darkness inside each of them had granted them tremendous strength, able to destroy the whole city. They looked at the remains of the city before looking at each other. They smile at each other before sharing kisses together and venture forward once more into the unknown.
This story was then made into a legend for every town and city to know.
Any who does bad things or sinful things will be dead the next day. The last thing that the victims saw was the shiny tip of a dagger that quickly slash through their hearts.

(14,331 words) - large
summary ➣ Na Jaemin, a figure from Y/N’s distant past, comes back into the picture. Journeying through the memories they both thought they left behind, they start to recognize how much has truly changed.
genre ➣ angst (+ fluff)
note ➣ This is ending five of seven for the dear dream series. This story takes place right after the dear dream prologue, an ‘alternate’ to endings such as champagne problems (Jeno), stars around scars (Mark), and the others.
For the endings, the prologue is a good place to start if you want a little bit of context. However, this story can also be read on its own if you just want some Jaemin content. Happy reading ♡

Feeling himself waver too much under the weight of the sunlight twisted up in his hands, Y/N slung his bag over his shoulder, tucked in his chair, and made his way out the door with nothing to say but the chatter and whispers against the hallway tiles that his tattered sneakers made. He didn’t truly realize how long he was holding his breath for those four walls until his exhale rang throughout the empty corridor, kicking up the light settled in the notches of the tiles. The suspension of his whine nearly wilted the shine of the sunlight on his shoulders, the endless ways his mind tugged at him only subsiding to let something else surface - something he couldn’t shake in that classroom no matter how desperately he tried.
As if cinders and ashes burrowed beneath his surface, Y/N was only able to shrug them off when he made his way further down the corridor. It was so intense, so spiteful, it was as if something was piercing Y/N’s chest, burning through it that left him at a loss. The feeling was so familiar, shook him to his core, and made his hands tremble in a way that was so singular - as if someone were to be watching him, lingering silently, almost longingly on his shoulders, only to relent by the time Y/N made it to the stairwell by the library.
There was always a place Y/N would go to help soothe the quivering in his hands, a safe haven that brought him peace and untied the sunlight that did nothing but taunt him of a simpler time. A time where the nostalgia on his tongue tasted as sweet as the first bloom of the spring season, or as bright as the strawberry sunshine he’d walk on with a hand in his.
Shaking his head, Y/N tried to mend the cracks he could already feel forming in his resolve with a malformed and misshapen breath before pushing through the doors and descending the concrete stairs toward the main foyer of the school, where the library was. Maybe he could finally find some peace in a place that hasn’t yet been stained with the nostalgia that turned bitter under Y/N’s skin, there were no tattered seams of make-shift attempts to preserve Y/N and Jisung’s memories, no gravity to spin Y/N out and lead him away from his own orbit.
It was a blank canvas, a place where Y/N could sit in as much quiet as his mind would let him and soak in the glow of a sunset he didn’t need to fear being taken away from him.
Y/N wound further down the rest of the stairs, making his way out to the school’s main foyer, and finally had a pause in the thoughts that were wearing him thin and tearing him apart. He decided to text Renjun back after another breath, at a loss of words the moment he read over Renjun’s text again.
Renjun said that he was ‘still free tonight to make up for yesterday’, and it left Y/N stuck in the doorframe, leaning against it and fidgeting with the golden sunlight that pooled in his hand. He was desperately trying to fit himself in the spaces between the letters, hyper-analyzing every line - even if there was only one line.
Whatever meaning Y/N was trying to dissect from Renjun’s text was only made into an even more unintelligible blur as he began to realize how quickly Renjun was ready to admit to mistakes he never makes. The more Y/N understood that he didn’t know why Renjun’s happiness seemed to constantly threaten to wither under the slightest storm, the simmer of guilt that bubbled beneath his skin seemed to burn brighter, dig into him with a shiver of starlight that used to mean so many different things. There was nothing Renjun needed to admit to but being the only light Y/N could count on to shine in his sky.
But Renjun’s light was fading, he was burning out day after day and Y/N couldn’t figure out why for as long as he tried to look. Maybe, all Renjun needs to reignite the sparks under his skin is a little bit of reassurance. For Y/N to take a look at all the ways Renjun has been drawing hearts under his scars, spinning his grief into the gold that’s settled on all of their midday study sessions and the delicate blues dancing between them on morning walks that Renjun wished could have lasted forever.
Y/N wished that he had made it more obvious, how much Renjun means to him, how grateful he is for having him, as well as how sorry he was for leaving Renjun to bend and twist himself up to fit the margins of Y/N and Jisung’s half-finished story instead of giving them one to start together. If he could just see Renjun now, take him to their favourite place to watch the setting sun sit along the silhouettes of houses in the distance, and tell him that he is everything Y/N needed and wants.
Finally making his way throughout the foyer, and staring fondly over the emojis Renjun placed next to his name when they exchanged numbers with shy smiles in the back of their science classroom, it brought everything back in a way that made Y/N’s breaths turn him inside out. How the morning dew shone in swathes of ivory-lit pearls on the fields during the only class they had together, how they’d get lost in the world Renjun’s always wanted to build with Y/N as they’d soak in the remnants of the dawn’s blue glow and never listen to their teacher’s lessons.
That corner of that classroom, it was one of their only instances of pure peace, waking up early on their bi-weekly Tuesdays just to snag the window seats and take in the sunrise together - it was the only time Y/N didn’t worry. It was so temporary and fleeting, and the moment it slipped out from under them when Renjun needed to move up a class level to fill his AP requirements, it felt as if it didn’t exist.
All the memories of Jisung, the fires that Jeno’s remarks stoked under his skin, and his frayed nerves that would leave him suspended in a place where all he could feel was regret and guilt and all the turmoil that creeps into him, slowly submerges him by the time the day ends. He didn’t have anything to hold on to, not the faint aroma of Renjun’s organic tea that clung to every one of his sweaters, and not the light of their smiles whenever Renjun would drop his eraser and their fingers would barely touch. It was all Renjun needed to grin, though, as the things that Y/N would sweep under the sun-stained tiles of their school were things that would keep Renjun going until they met up at each other’s lockers for a quick hug goodbye.
Tapping into his phone, throwing out a message as quickly as he could to a probably paranoid Renjun idling on the other end of the screen, Y/N said that ‘it’s fine’ and that he ‘didn’t need to make up for anything’.
The moment Y/N realized that wasn’t enough, he felt something brush against his shoulder, nearly knocking him off balance.
“Oh, sorry…” It took a moment for the voice to settle into Y/N’s head, as his focus on texting Renjun detached him from everything except the floor beneath him. However, when it finally did, when its familiar melody carved its way onto his skin in a way he could just recognize, Y/N looked up.
“Renjun?” Y/N watched with a smile as a fray of messy hair spun into gold under the light that seemed to bounce under the flinches Renjun stumbled through. He turned around and met Y/N’s eyes with a surprised and relieved smile as he trotted toward him, his phone held open and on in his hands. It was as if he were restlessly pacing around the school, tying up hallways in his nervous steps as he probably waited so long for Y/N’s response. It made Y/N’s stomach twist up, thinking about how long Renjun might have been willing to stay on the other end to finally see something, anything. “I’m sorry if I kept you waiting…”
“No, please, don’t worry about it.” Renjun shrugged as he finally saw Y/N’s messages show up on his screen, tucking his phone back in the pocket of his corduroy pants with as much satisfaction as he could muster under all the stress he’s been feeling. “I’m just glad you got my text…”
“Did you get mine?”
“Yeah, I still feel like I need to make up for lost time, at least.” Even if it was just a clumsily stolen glance at his phone before he stuffed it in his pocket, Renjun could still find space for himself between all the words and meet them with a sigh. He felt conflicted, struggling to decide whether the breath he let out after reading Y/N’s texts shoved any weight off his shoulders, or if it was just more for him to hold on to. “I feel like you’ve been down more often, and I feel bad for not helping in any particular way. I-”
“Renjun…” Y/N stepped forward and took Renjun gently by the shoulders.
This was his opportunity to make things better, to take the bittersweetness that fell on all the conversations that disappeared on them and left scraps of quiet, strained laughter in their sands and build something over them. He wanted to make a new impression in what they both claimed to be a friendship - sometimes, when Y/N was left alone with his thoughts, he saw them as nothing less than two burnt-out stars huddling for warmth. He needed to fix that, to catch the beautiful friendship they both felt slipping through their fingertips for a reason they couldn't quite place.
“Please don’t feel bad, you don’t need to make up or compensate for anything. My feelings shouldn’t be your sole responsibility…”
“Y/N, is everything okay…?” Renjun considered all of Y/N’s words, letting them sink in, but as they did, Renjun felt nothing but the sting of all the moonlit nights they haven’t experienced yet. He felt this trembling in Y/N’s voice, and all Renjun wanted to do was reach out, take Y/N’s hands in his, and relive the glow he’d see in Y/N’s stray smiles. Even if it would burn him black, wear him out and reduce him to ashes, he wanted Y/N to be alright.
“There’s just a lot that I need to make up for.” Hesitating, Y/N continued with a breath, truly thinking about how much they truly needed to do and how far they needed to go. Maybe if they go to places they’ve never been but always knew about, they can finally stop painting their pictures with the colours that follow lonely sunsets, second thoughts, and frayed ends of half-finished conversations. Their memories can be more than a lesson to learn, a star to wish upon. Renjun could chase the stars in Y/N’s eyes instead. “I’m free tomorrow since I have way too much to do today, so if you want…?”
“Okay, sounds like a plan. We can go on a study date or something since midterms are coming up.” Renjun smiled, thinking about how all the things they tossed aside, the things they never regarded as more than just recurring colours in the sky, could be so much more. He could see the distress evident in the shifting of Y/N’s gaze, the trembling of his pensive frown, and wanted to do anything but leave Y/N to his own devices. “But, Y/N… I want to respect your space and focus, but I feel like there’s something you want to get off your chest. We should study together and talk about it... I’m here for you.”
“We’ll work everything out tomorrow, okay?” Y/N sighed in contentment as Renjun nodded and moved closer to wrap Y/N up in his arms. “I’ll see you then.”
“Okay, see you then.” Renjun’s smile was bright, radiant, already carrying less weight and the very prospect of making things just a little bit better. Looking at the folds of Renjun’s sweater vest eclipsing the edges of his shadow as he rounded the corner of a hallway and disappeared into the sunlight streaming through the windows, Y/N let out a chuckle. Everything that kept Y/N awake, the tapestries Jisung shred, all the nostalgia that’s run bitter and frail like ashes on Y/N’s tongue with every attempt to bite back the precious words he and Y/N once shared; Y/N can finally feel its hold on him begin to loosen, the chatter in his mind starting to settle down.
Those moments where Y/N’s taken out of his way before he's concerned, where he’s wrapped up in his grief before he notices Renjun’s presence or that beautiful shimmer in his eyes, Y/N was finally going to stop putting Renjun after things that have lost their importance. Renjun is important to him, and as his best friend, he is the most important.
It was time for Y/N to finally show it.
*
Y/N pushed through the glass doors of the library and winced at the shrill whine of the hinges that mocked a greeting towards him as he made his way further in. The walls were practically all glass, floor-to-ceiling windows allowing for the sunlight to pool on the ground, flourish on every surface, and through every crack in dapples of golden light. When Y/N shuffled in more to find a place to settle down and finally make peace of all the stress and turmoil tearing at his seams, he saw the sun-soaked silhouettes of a few more figures, sitting at tables with piles of books and a weathered flush on their cheeks.
They were stranded on islands, surrounded by an ocean of amber sunlight and the expectations that have brought them to the same place Y/N was. In the air of silence that was created through the sunlight that threatened to shatter under one wrong move, one loud word, anything above a whisper; it was this sort of solidarity. An understanding that the dust-soaked spines of all the books that have yet to be touched, and all the unwanted words and prose and poems and history in all the stories stacked up on the shelves Y/N weaved between were nothing but a breeding ground of cynics and loners. Y/N didn’t want to become one of them, he wanted to be happy, he wanted to feel the relief and weightlessness he did at the beginning of freshman year, but the change in his tides had a far different idea for him.
Y/N found a seat in the far corner, a table that was placed right next to the window for Y/N to soak in all the sun’s pretentious light. Every time he turns toward the horizon now, it feels as if its brandish and shine are playing a cruel trick on him, shying away from him the moment he tries to take it in his hands and make something out of it.
As he laid out his things and instantly fell into the rhythm of answering questions for his biology homework, he looked out the window next to him and how it overlooked the baseball diamond that was already filled up with blurs and figures of red and white. He could practically hear the rattling of the cages from where he was, he could see the breezes carry away clouds of red sands kicked up by the varsity baseball team. Getting lost in the warmth of the sunlight as it tangled up in his hands again, and trying his best to keep up with the content for his classes could only last for so long until he fell victim to the sound of Jeno’s voice cutting through the sky, practically making the glass walls of the library shatter.
It was never as difficult as Y/N wanted to make being able to make his bully, Jeno out of the nameless, faceless crowd of social higher-ups he’s made his home, he could always pick out his piercing gaze and the fires inside them so easily. He could feel the rasp that underlit every single one of Jeno’s words in such a meticulous, calculated way, that it was no wonder everyone fell prey to the things he said, especially Y/N. Jeno always wanted to leave some sliver of Y/N’s confidence left, leaving him with something to hold onto so he could pick it apart and take the rest out from under him when he came back for more.
Something that also broke his focus was the moving of sunlit shadows in the corner of his eye, for some reason, its silhouette looked so familiar, yet so foreign to him, as if its image hung on the frayed edges of Y/N’s memories, danced on the edge of the daydreams he used to have.
“Y/N…?”
Y/N looked up to the near-breathless call of his name, everything seeming to freeze the moment he met a pair of widened, dark brown eyes - their shimmer shrinking sheepishly behind the effortless waves of his hair. Those eyes, they carried so many long-lost memories with them, shone the light of a time that Y/N thought was worn out from under Y/N’s trainers that were there to see the better days within the melodies that voice held. He couldn’t stop looking at this person, as he took in all their features - which looked like figments of what felt like a past life.
This person was dressed in a whole new light that wasn’t the glow of the fragile moon as that smile greeted him in the copper blush of the summer sunsets that still lingered on them by the time they were carelessly burning down streets and calling them their own. Y/N’s hands were once tied with the ones that were shoved nonchalantly in a blue and white varsity jacket.
It was Na Jaemin, his unmistakable wide, flourishing grin bringing the summer before their freshman year back to Y/N in crashing waves.
“Oh my God… Y/N, it’s really you!”
Y/N was still trying to let it all sink in, how, by this strange stroke of luck and coincidence, his summertime odyssey and love letter to the sunlight was standing just before him. Y/N could recall, as clear as day, the looks they shared back in middle school, the notes they’d try to pass to each other across desks, the walks they’d take during their school's lunch break thinking that their entire world spanned the block’s worth of sidewalk they were allowed to stay in until they could head home and venture farther into the horizon of rooftops and cherry sunlight.
Jaemin was Y/N’s first ever love, and Y/N was Jaemin’s. They were each other’s ivory-lit daydreams, the shine in their young and innocent eyes, the glimmer of a hopeful future, and the fires of ignorance that fueled all of their sleepless nights splitting the earnings of their gas-station raids on Jaemin’s bed and then fighting over something they’d always only get one of.
With Jaemin, the summer slipped away from them, out from under them.
All of the sudden, they slipped out from under each other as well. The moment the next school year hit, they fell through each other’s fingertips. As they graduated middle school, they split off to different high schools and assumed completely different lives under a sky that they were still supposed to share, a sky that was waiting for them to sign their initials on its horizon.
Endless days, restless nights, moments frozen in time with their bated breath as they made it to the highest point of their town and claimed it to be their throne, they were all gone as they slowly and surely faded from one another’s embrace.
“Jaemin…?” Y/N gasped, his voice barely breaching the surface of the sunlight, his shock and awe ripping the air from his chest. Jaemin’s smile was still the same as before despite how much he’s grown since they last exchanged looks like this. Every once in a while, Jaemin would part the tides of Y/N’s thoughts, he always wondered if their separate, flower-lined paths would ever cross again, if they’d ever be able to see each other’s bloom, or if they’d even remember each other despite their summer being one they’d claim to never forget. “I- what…? What’re you doing here…?”
“Just scoping out my competition for tomorrow.” As Jaemin found himself getting lost in the glow of Y/N’s gaze, he sent himself scrounging up for all the memories he thought withered away, were lost to him with all the time that passed. But looking in Y/N’s eyes once more - how he’s grown so much yet hasn’t changed one bit - taking in the colour of his flush as it bloomed in his cheeks like bundles of sunset-stained roses, it made everything resurface so effortlessly, as if all this time was nothing but a single flicker in the space between them. “Oh, I’m my school’s baseball captain, I have a game against you tomorrow so I wanted to see if the fabled Lee Jeno’s team is really worthy of all the praise everyone seems to give it.”
“Baseball captain, huh…?” Tilting his head, trying to get the sunlight to caress Jaemin’s skin in just the right way, Y/N could see faint outlines of all the things Y/N thought were washed up and painted over. Flashes back to makeshift baseball diamonds in the corner of their old school’s fields, soot and sand covering their linked pinkies. Y/N never thought much of baseball until Jaemin would bring it up in their wandering conversations. He was so passionate about it, and the way his smile gleamed whenever he’d talk about it for just long enough, it ignited Y/N’s pulse, and it felt as if Y/N never wanted that feeling to fade. Y/N would always be on the bleachers, watching Jaemin play whenever they were old enough to try out with a bright smile, the feeling of Jaemin’s hands in his with every time he stole to home base or carved the ball’s shadow into the sky with every time he hit it.
Y/N still felt himself feeling out the sweetness of the laughter between his teeth as he recalled tucking as many clovers into Jaemin’s uniform pocket as possible, and looking up to meet Jaemin’s fond grin. This rabbit hole, following stray thoughts like a bad habit - he never realized how much of Jaemin he truly remembered until he was right in front of him.
“Wow, I guess things really do change…” Y/N didn’t know whether he was saying it to himself or Jaemin as he scrambled to find a seat and pulled it up to the edge of Y/N’s table. Jaemin’s eyes still held such an innocent shimmer, even after weathering the storm and song of three of the longest, most gruelling years of both of their lives. And as if their memories have never faded, as if it was another day of meeting each other at the corner of their school at sunrise to waste away enough of the morning together before school would steal the rest of their day with them.
Back then, their only worry, the only hands that could’ve taken anything from them, were those of that shrill whine of the school bell. Y/N wished that was all he had to worry about, all he had to count down to, instead of counting down the days to graduation just to leave all this behind him. Scars left in the hallway; fragmented blessings and promises and pieces of his broken heart scattered in every room that he and Jisung ever snuck into to have their lunch in peace; sparks of every confrontation with Jeno left to dance by streams of sunlight until Y/N would walk by them again and realize that his numbered days to fight only keep growing…
He just wanted to see it all go away, he finally wanted to grow out of something, instead of seeing everything slip from his grasp and move faster than his world ever could.
“Crazy concept, I know.” Jaemin’s giggle only shone brighter as he saw Y/N roll his eyes with a smile. He missed Y/N being on the other end of his sarcasm, it was never the same with anyone else, even with the spaces he filled with new friends, new hands to hold his in the nights between then and now. It was never the same as the sparks that coursed through them whenever he’d take Y/N’s hands in his own, tie their fingers together and promise to never let go. He broke that promise, though. It fell straight through his fingers the moment Y/N’s weren’t there to tangle between him.
At least he didn’t know that he wasn’t the only one from Y/N’s past and present to break his promises.
“How are you, though, Y/N? It’s been forever since we last spoke. How’s the high school life treating you?” Jaemin wanted to know anything and everything about Y/N now that he’s here. All the things that could’ve transpired, all the new colours that Y/N could’ve reached to paint his portraits, and all the space to say the things they could have never conceived. Jaemin wanted to know every single thing.
Y/N didn’t want Jaemin to know anything, though, as all he had to show for all the time they’ve spent apart were the wounds that have barely healed, all the faded stars around his burns that Jisung claimed to be beauty marks, and all the colours he can’t see clearly anymore now that the memories stained with them have been stolen right out from under him. What he does have are the sleepless nights; the days of constant stress and worry that left him too tired to think by the time Renjun’s smiles waited eagerly for him by his locker; the weight of Jeno’s shadow constantly swallowing him up; dragging him down and waiting for him to trip just for Jeno to make sure Y/N couldn’t stand up without feeling the shame in falling.
Letting out a sharp sigh that Jaemin could practically feel the edges of the moment Y/N let it out, Y/N just tried as hard as he could to convince Jaemin that he was just fine. And that all of his time wasn’t wasted on chasing things that were supposed to be, things that Y/N wished could still be.
“It’s going well, I guess. I can’t complain…” Y/N struggled to piece his words together without tripping over himself, but he did with a frail breath that almost crumbled from under him. With another deep sigh, Y/N latched onto the light still streaming through the windows, everything rushing back to him too fast - three years and he still can’t find a way to weather his thoughts. “Not one bit…”
He never wanted to complain, things could always be worse. But losing everything in one morning, looking at his unread texts with a present he spent weeks on for Jisung and having nothing meet him but empty spaces, reading all the notes piled up in the back of his locker and trying to savour all the affection that was left to flower in them until they were nothing but scrawlings of worn ink… He couldn't complain, as he couldn’t find the words.
All of this to serve a social hierarchy he and Jisung spent nights scoffing at. Jisung threw away their aspirations to get a station wagon they couldn’t afford, drive to the cliffside they could only see in silhouettes against the sky, and get the best view of the beaches that held their sunset-lit slow dances in the waves - selling them all for a glistening red sports car Jisung pulls up to school in now.
“Y/N…” Jaemin let out a defeated, strained breath as he looked at the way the light in Y/N’s eye withered under his false claims. There was so much more under that gaze, Jaemin could tell it hid so many things - long nights, cires into the indigos of the night, tears like the stars he can’t find space in anymore. He just wanted to know what was troubling Y/N so much - how much could’ve happened in the three years that passed through Jaemin like shots at parties or sentiments shared with people who couldn’t make him feel half of what Y/N did. “I know three years is a long time for us to forget stuff about each other, but I can still tell when you’re lying…”
“I… Shit…” Y/N felt all of himself crumbling, threatening to let everything slip out from under him. He wanted to scoff at how Jaemin was able to see through him like the crystal skies they shared and tripped on when they were younger, but he wasn’t even close to surprised. He felt Jaemin’s observant gaze on him, a trickle of sparks on Y/N’s skin, since before Jaemin carved Y/N’s name out again. It felt as if Jaemin still knew as much of Y/N as he did then. Y/N could feel it, too, all of Jaemin’s unchanged habits flooding in with this sweet nostalgia, they shone on the edge of all Y/N’s thoughts like reflexes.
He thought he didn’t know anyone anymore, that it wasn’t worth it to let others write in his pages or to read others’ words knowing that all his work could be ripped out in one fell swoop - all the unsaid words Y/N’s still looking for. He’d rather be gathering the dust of all his long-lost ease, joining the books on the shelves just a few paces away. They clung to their glory days not out of necessity or desperation, but because that was all they knew. They didn’t know anything else, anyone else, and haven’t felt the betrayal of having their words scratched out of other people’s stories.
“What’s up, Y/N…? Is everything okay?” Jaemin didn’t need to be clairvoyant or perceptive to see Y/N working too hard on what he was going to say next, or even what to think about next. It hurt him so much to see Y/N like this. This wasn’t the Y/N he knew and loved at first sight, one who was forced into a corner of worrying, someone who’s too tired to let a smile shine or doing something without wondering what the catch was. He wondered where the Y/N who begged him to ditch the silhouette of rooftops their world existed in and go to where the sunlight shone brightest had gone; the one who'd take Jaemin’s hands and tie them together and never let go as they crept through back gardens to where the moonlight gathered in the park they first locked eyes at.
More importantly, Jaemin wondered who could have taken that all away. Little did he know, it was the varsity baseball captain he’s been keeping his eyes on all day.
“I never thought I’d see you again; and after three years, I thought that I should’ve been telling you about all the good things. Not about how my entire high school life has been one big clusterfuck…” Y/N never thought he’d ever see Jaemin again, be able to see anything past what could have been with the love they knew they had.
And now that he has, now that Jaemin is sitting across from him with this expectant smile - probably expecting a little more than Y/N can give him - Y/N can’t just tie Jaemin up and rope him into all of his drama. Y/N knew Jaemin was hoping for something different, maybe to see the smile he knew Jaemin missed, or for him to hear the laughter that left ripples in all the skies they danced under; he just couldn’t, though. He can’t live up to the past, as things were simpler back then.
Y/N had nothing to lose, at least, he didn’t think he could lose anything.
“Oh, Y/N…” Jaemin was scrambling to make everything okay, as it took him too long to catch the sheen of all Y/N’s scars in the sunlight. He just wanted to do something, anything to make Y/N smile again. “Is there anything I can do to help you?”
“I wish there was, but no, not really… I wouldn’t want to put you in that position anyways.” Y/N flinched under the weight of the words that trickled from his lips as he watched Jaemin rise from his chair. There was this resolute, stern look on his face as he rounded the table’s corner and stepped up to Y/N, looking down at him. “What?” Y/N felt his voice slip out from under him as Jaemin bent down with his eyebrows furrowed, before tucking a lock of Y/N’s hair behind his ear to see where the sparks used to dance in his eyes.
“If I can’t help you, then the least I can do right now is distract you.” Maybe Y/N didn’t have the solution, but Jaemin was going to find one, whether he needed to tear up the sun-stained sky to do it.
Looking outside to where Jeno and the rest of his team were still practicing, Jaemin smiled to himself before stepping back and stretching out a hand for Y/N to take. If he couldn’t be the wind under Y/N’s broken wings right now, then at least he could help him get some fresh air.
Something’s telling Jaemin that Y/N’s spent too long holding his breath.
“Let’s go for a walk, I need to take a closer look at my competition anyway.”
*
Y/N and Jaemin made their way outside, Y/N clinging to any warmth his sweater could give him as a breeze passed by them with a whistle and a chuckle. They were trying to stay as discreet as possible, trying their best to use the setting sunlight as cover as they stepped between the conversations and chatter in the grass, and carved a path under the amber blush of the sky that seeped between the spaces in the trees and settled on the fields in delicate, coral dapples. Slowly making their way closer to the diamond, where Jaemin cautiously and meticulously surveyed Jeno’s team’s movements and plays around the bases with a smirk and a few surprised and amused hums, they stopped by a patch of picnic tables.
Hearing all the clangour from the baseball diamond made Jaemin think about when he and Y/N were once caught in the middle of all the chaos, making the noise themselves and ripping skies wide open as they tore up fields and courts and anywhere they could throw or kick a ball. Jaemin wanted to follow this faint taste of nostalgia he could feel blooming on the tip of his tongue as he looked over at Y/N, who was absently staring toward the houses near the basketball court - he didn’t seem to look any less distressed than Jaemin wanted him to be. In fact, Y/N looked more on edge. Looking desperately for something to help Y/N feel the jade greens of the pine trees on the edges of the lot - the colours of all the places they carved their initials into always managed to make them smile - Jaemin slowly bent their tense silence.
“I still remember when you were on our school’s soccer team. You were on this one freshman year, too, were you not?” Jaemin thought back to freshman year, when he heard rumours that someone was completely overthrowing his school’s place on the soccer league’s throne. When the messages and rumours eventually made their way to him, he wasn’t surprised that it was Y/N, who completely unravelled their defensive lines every single time they were placed on that field.
It almost made Jaemin want to join the soccer team just to see him, to feel and rekindle the light of the laughter that spilled out of them back when he and Y/N had nothing but a sunset and an open meadow. Seeing Y/N in pictures, hearing of him in the form of complaints and whines from his many friends on the soccer team about this absolute menace who completely dismantled them, game after game, it always gave Jaemin hope. It ignited this small, flickering light to help him find their long-lost glory days as he couldn’t really do anything except think about what could be if they ever saw each other.
“Damn, there’s so much I don’t know about you… We need to make up for it, somehow, I missed you.”
“I’ll start thinking of things, ‘cause I missed you too.” Y/N looked up to Jaemin, who shone a relieved grin when a small smile slowly and hesitantly flourished on Y/N’s face - slowly unravelling from all the thoughts that contorted his features in the first place. He tried to recall the happiness that used to stir so effortlessly in his chest in freshman year. “But about soccer… I was only on the team back when I chose to run…”
Those were simpler times, when his world was nothing but the suburb he lived in and the rolling hills that surrounded it. Back when he and Jeno could stand next to each other in those red and black jerseys with smiles on their faces, unknowing of what they could become. If Y/N tries hard enough, he can still find a picture on his phone of exactly that; Y/N, Jeno and many others standing in a line with a coach who left the halls of this school while they had the chance. There was nothing to Y/N’s or Jeno’s names but the numbers on their backs during that time.
Despite all the vitriol Y/N and Jeno held at each other’s throats, the constant stress of needing to fend of Jeno’s perfectly constructed insults or threats to his record the moment Y/N defies him, Y/N always wondered if Jeno kept pictures like that, too. If he’d look over them with the closest thing Jeno could get to fondness and think about what everybody has become, how they never could have known what shadows hid behind the corners of this school’s hallways.
“You should try joining again, Y/N. You were literally the best in our grade.” Jaemin said with an optimistic smile still plastered on his face. Y/N started to feel guilty about the nerves he felt fray by the second with every one of Jeno’s movements behind the batting cages he caught from the corner of his eye. He wanted to pay attention to every single one of Jaemin’s words, feel the light of his happiness and share it for the first time in the three years they spent growing up and growing apart from one another. However, with Jeno closer than he could have ever wanted, and with Jaemin wanting to get closer, Y/N felt as if he was curling in on himself.
He wanted to tell Jaemin about everything, at least, a part of him did. But Jaemin was here for not less than picking up on ways to beat Y/N’s school in their baseball game tomorrow. He wasn’t here to be caught in the crossfire of all the things that made Y/N lose his shine, for him to see Y/N and Jisung on opposite sides of the same horizon and for him to watch as Jeno tries to tear them apart.
That is if Jeno catches Y/N and his rival, Jaemin, looking on at him and his team.
“Well, the bar goes only so high when you’re a bunch of flailing middle schoolers-” Y/N was cut off by Jaemin grabbing Y/N by the shoulders, stopping Y/N’s parade of self-depreciation and discredit a little later than he wanted.
“And I bet that you were the best here, too.” Jaemin said with a stern melody overtaking his voice for a moment, a brief whisper between the breeze and the trees carving shadows overhead. “Is there anything stopping you from even trying out?”
Y/N really wished Jaemin didn’t ask that question, as it was both so loaded and full of all the things Jeno empties Y/N of every morning, yet so simple for Y/N to answer.
“Him…” Y/N’s words leaked effortlessly from his grimace as he nodded toward where Jeno slung his bat over his shoulder with a flourish and a cocky smile. Jaemin, latching instantly onto the way Y/N deflated, snapped his head over to where Jeno was, circling his team members and preening at every single one of their mistakes with a rasp in his voice that rose into the sky in a way that Y/N could never shake. It settled into Y/N’s skin even as he and Jaemin were as close - yet far - as they could be. And it assumed this slow, gradual burn into Y/N’s skin that made the sunlight settled on his shoulders shiver.
“Y/N… What does that mean…? Is he doing anything to you? If he is-” Jaemin couldn’t stop thinking about the way Y/N’s words left his lips, so filled with this potent and nauseating mixture of anger and fear as it trickled into the breeze and up to the coral skies. All Jaemin could imagine were the things that Y/N still hasn’t told him, all the history behind the weight of Y/N’s shifting and stolen glances, all the ashes that scatter with each of Y/N’s heavy breaths, and all the reasons for the worn glow in Y/N’s eyes. Y/N’s gaze still spun the sunlight into the most beautiful of gold, just as Jaemin remembered, but he couldn’t help - as he looked closer, drowned deeper in the flickering light of Y/N’s eyes - but see how it all threatened to waver in a way Jaemin couldn’t recognize. Until now.
“I’m not special or anything,” Y/N tried to put a rest to the sparks he could see flaring up in Jaemin’s intense stare toward the baseball diamond. “He’s just an asshole to everyone. It’s like he goes out of his way to make others’ lives harder.”
“But that’s not okay, Y/N.” Jaemin’s voice began to rise, resisting against the winds he let sweep their conversation away from them. Everything just started to make sense, and no matter how Y/N tried to convince him otherwise, Jaemin wasn’t going to stand by and watch his first and only true love withstand a storm he didn’t deserve to bear. “If he’s affecting everyone - including you - then I have a problem with that.”
With a rough sigh that came a little too easily for Y/N’s liking, he pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling his tightened knuckles loosening as Jaemin took Y/N’s free hand in his. It was a feeling that was so foreign, almost ancient, yet so familiar, as if the sweetness he could already sense tangling between their fingers was a song he always knew the melody to. Holding Jaemin’s hand again, feeling all the moments where the knots they tied between their fingers were dripping with moonlight, dyed by the night, it almost made Y/N forget about Jeno, and a silhouette by the baseball diamond’s bleachers stealing glances at Y/N that he couldn’t quite see.
“I’ve tried, a lot of people have tried, but he has so much power in this school that it’s hard to make any sort of change to how he’s been treating us…” Y/N shook his head just thinking about all the times people have tried to stand up to him, only for them to be brought down before the prying eyes of the entire school; Y/N’s tried to do the same, only for Jeno to steal everything he once knew in return. He wished more people could be like Jaemin, popular and at the top rung of his social ladder, but helping others climb with him instead of using them as mere assets toward success. Even in high school, Jaemin has still been able to retain his kind heart, his gentle words and touch regardless of the temptation to be something else. “Anyway, don’t worry about it. Just focus on your game and stuff.”
“I can’t do that, Y/N.” Jaemin brought Y/N’s hands to his lips, stilling as Y/N flinched under him, only to relax instantly to the comforting melody of Jaemin’s hums and the warmth of his smile. Y/N was still trying to get used to how the flames flourished in Jaemin’s little kisses to his knuckles, the same ones he would steal between classes in the most dramatic fashion or the ones that would end their nights as Jaemin would help Y/N back through the bedroom window Jaemin coaxed him out of in the first place.
They could probably still build a castle with all the pebbles Jaemin used to throw at Y/N’s window.
“If there’s someone who’s as adamant on tormenting you as what you’re telling me, then I won’t just sit by and watch you not be okay.”
Y/N wants to tell him so much more, as he’s barely scratched the surface of everything that Jeno - and now Jisung - have and haven’t done to make every day a battle Y/N doesn’t want to fight. Having Jaemin here, though, it made him feel like everything could be okay. Even if it was all a delusion, a hopeless manifestation of the ways Jaemin could grab his hands and help him escape from all the things withering under Y/N’s touch, it was something - more than Y/N’s had for a while.
“Jaemin-”
“What’re you doing here?”
Both Y/N and Jaemin’s heads snapped up to where the baseball team now lingered - stopped on their way back toward the gym to pack their things by the sight of people that looked all too familiar to Jeno. At first, Jeno was stunned to see Jaemin - one of the only people he’s actually spared his respect for, more out of a necessity than anything. However, he felt his teeth grind together in a snarl as he saw him standing next to Y/N, the way the sunset carved out his furrowed brow already bringing fires to lap at Jeno’s chest, an anger rising in his throat.
It irritated Jeno, how quickly Y/N seemed to heal, and how the scars he’s carved into Y/N’s skin for every day since he beckoned Jisung into his inner circle haven’t been deep enough to last. There’s always someone - whether it be Renjun, or apparently his competition, Jaemin - there for Y/N whenever Jeno tries to make him fall. It made the fires in jeno’s chest burn bright, lap furiously at his heart with every time he’d see Y/N walk through ‘his’ hallways with even a morsel of a smile on his lips.
“What’s it to you?” Jaemin asked, his voice stable and calm as he surveyed the glint in Jeno’s eyes and all the team members who stood on either side of him, but never in front of him. With the way Y/N seemed still under Jeno’s spotlight, silently trying to gather himself as Jeno’s glare nearly severed the breeze wrapping around them, Jaemin already knew that Y/N wasn’t telling him about how Jeno truly treated him. He felt his own frustration begin to bubble beneath his skin, cling to the end of his words and breath.
Jaemin knew exactly who this type of person was, he knew that the things he’s done to Y/N weren’t so easy to sweet aside and treat like nothing.
“Excuse me…?” Jeno’s voice was already beginning to settle as he stepped closer to Jaemin. His glare, though, never left Y/N. “I’m allowed to ask whatever I want if you’re on my field.”
“This isn’t your field, Jeno, it’s a school.” Y/N spoke up from behind Jaemin’s shoulders, feeling safe enough to not be scared or hesitant to speak up for himself like all the other times Jeno was able to bludgeon him with all of his remarks and receive nothing but a tangled sputter of silence.
“I didn’t ask for your opinion, so stay quiet and continue being a useless waste of time.” Jeno snarled, light in his eyes wild as he pulled away from his pack of teammates and strode closer to them. Before Y/N could fully flinch at what Jeno said, let his words dig beneath his surface, Jaemin matched Jeno’s steps, putting Y/N behind him with a gentle touch to his waist.
“You better watch what you say to him-”
“Oh no~ I’m so scared…” Jeno rolled his eyes with a smirk before looking over Jaemin’s shoulder to meet Y/N’s glare. He wanted to chuckle at the way the sparks in Y/N’s eyes were tripping over themselves just to ignite. But he felt this unknown tense of shock stir in his chest as Y/N’s attempt at a comeback was still settling in him. “I guess Y/N has another fake best-friend to fill in the spaces.”
“You sure do say a lot, but I don’t think you’ve ever lived up to it.” Jaemin tried to pay no mind to Jeno’s attempt to tear him down, and shot back with an arched eyebrow. He stepped back and watched Jeno gather himself for a second - probably caught off guard with how easily Jaemin was able to shoulder his remark - before immediately finding something to cut through the colours of the sunset filling in the space between them.
“Trust me, you don’t want me to live up to my word.” Jeno’s voice was low - ravaging the air with this torturous level of finesse and mercilessness that Jaemin knew Y/N was all too familiar with. Just as Jaemin was preparing to step up again, Jeno turned his head over to Y/N, gesturing to Jaemin with a disgusted look before throwing it Y/N’s way. “Is all this because you think all these people you keep collecting are gonna protect you? They don’t give a shit about you, and I think I’ve made that pretty apparent.”
Jaemin let the whispers of the breeze that whipped up around them, more and more agitated with the words thrown up into its sky, take over his thoughts for a second. He didn’t quite know what Jeno was referring to, but with the way he saw Y/N silently stammering, fumbling over himself as he looked back to check up on him, Jaemin knew that it was something that haunted Y/N the moment his light was taken away.
“Protecting him is exactly what I’m gonna do…” Taking the wavering of the sunlight in stride, Jaemin stepped closer to Jeno once more, standing tall, his words remaining strong and firm before he looked back to shine Y/N a reassuring smile. Even if he could lessen the fear in Y/N’s eyes by just a little bit, replace it by only a flickering flame, Jaemin was still glad his comfort meant something despite how fiercely Jeno tried to tear apart their resolve.
Jaemin was going to stay with Y/N as long as he could, for as long as the promises they tied around each other again stay between their hands and fingers and wandering stares. He wasn’t going to let the starlight in Y/N’s smile fade and wear away
“That’s what Jisung said, too.”
A thick, suffocating silence overtook the field as the sound of Jisung’s name instantly made this hopelessness Y/N always held too close to his chest bloom into the withered roses Y/N greets with nothing but a defeated stare. And as Y/N looked over the faces of stone that hovered behind Jeno, nothing but mere bystanders to his and Jaemin’s torment, he found one in particular.
There he was, there was Jisung, his knuckles tightening restlessly around the helmet he held by his side as he stared up at Y/N. Everyone’s heads turned toward Jisung, now, to where he was dangling on the edge of the crowd breathless, silent, eyes wide and mouth hung open in a silent sputter. Even with everybody’s stares lingering on him - burning into him like the relentless golden sunlight that lit all of his and Y/N's slow dances on the beach he can still clearly remember - all Jisung could look at was Y/N and the yearning in his eyes. It broke his heart to even look at Y/N and find all the places where the gold from the sunlight weighing them down used to be spun.
All those little shimmers that used to meet Jisung on the other end of their restless nights as he’d wake up with Y/N in his arms, they were all gone, scattered like ashes to all the days he’s spared Y/N no less than a few stolen glances.
It took a moment for even Jeno to gather his bearings again. His frown deepened, but he could feel the anger that fueled every single one of his words simmering down under Y/N’s lifeless, defeated stare toward Jisung. By the time he recognized what he had said, the chatter in the grass spoke over his thoughts, and Jaemin looked back to Y/N before stumbling through the silence.
“What do you-” That name felt so familiar to Jaemin, and he scored his memories to try and figure out how a single mention of his name could leave Y/N’s stare sunken and forlorn. As he looked back to see Y/N more hurt and distressed than he’s ever seen him, all Jaemin wanted to do was wrap him up in his arms, send his comfort spilling over all the places Jeno and Jisung hurt him most.
Following Y/N’s eyes to the edge of the crowd behind Jeno, everything started coming back to Jaemin in one fell swoop as he saw Jisung, who buckled under the way Jaemin’s glare ran straight through him as if he were nothing. This was the same person who made all the same promises Jaemin did. With how close Y/N and Jisung were before and after Jaemin came into the picture, Jaemin thought that at least one of them could keep their promises.
“Jisung…?”
“He’s with me now… He knows a loose end when he sees one.” Jeno folded his arms with something that was supposed to feel like pride, but he could feel it begin to shrink away as he couldn’t look away from the shimmers of sadness in Y/N’s eyes. He’s spent the last year and a half grinding Y/N’s self-esteem under his heel like every other student at this school; so why did he care? He wasn’t supposed to care… He was supposed to feel proud of the way he cut into Y/N with his words.  Jeno needed whatever these feelings were to stop.
“You fucking-”
“What!?” Jeno met Jaemin halfway in his surge forward and grabbed Jaemin’s collar with a sinister sneer, baring his teeth in a grin that bordered on manic. The way he stopped Jaemin in his tracks and left him speechless and wide-eyed in his grip, he needed to be proud of that.
“Jeno! What the fuck!” Y/N called out, breaking his stare with Jisung and striding over to where Jeno had Jaemin in his hands, nearly dangling by the firstful of his collar as Jeno jostled him around out of pure spite for Y/N’s concern.
“Just stay back, Y/N.” Jaemin stuck an arm out toward Y/N, stopping him from getting too close.
“Yeah, Y/N… Let your knight in shining armour protect you!” Jeno said with a growl boiling over in his throat, snapping at one of his teammates to fetch his bag. Almost instantly, a bag was lobbed over to Jeno’s side, where he took out his water bottle and flicked off its cap. Jaemin, looking down to see Jeno playing with the open water bottle in his free hand, already prepared for the worst. But he made sure not to let anything show, that was what Jeno wanted the most, the little victories that he could hold over his and Y/N’s heads later. “What am I, Jaemin…?”
“You’re pathetic, a waste of time.” Jaemin spat as he dropped his hand from Jeno’s wrist, his failed attempts at prying Jeno’s grip from his collar would only fuel the flames of Jeno’s ego. He didn’t resist, as long as Y/N was safe he didn’t need to think about the pain that coiled in his chest as Jeno held tighter onto him, or that sparks that coursed through his snarl. This was how things went for people like Jeno, and Jaemin knew how he’d get tangled up in all the wrongs he made sooner or later. “I used to be like you, you know. You’ll wind up just as alone as you’re forcing everyone else to be if you continue like this-”
“Spare me your wisdom.” Jeno tried to block out Jaemin’s words as best he could, shutting him up with a swift jerk of his arm and poured all his water over Jaemin’s head, soaking every inch of his head and shoulders. With a snicker and a shove, he sent a sputtering Jaemin staggering back, leaving Y/N to rush in, help Jaemin catch himself and hold him steady. Before Jeno could step up and do anything else, he was stopped by Jisung catching his shoulder and keeping him in place.
Jeno didn’t fight or resist Jisung, and just watched as Y/N and Jaemin stood tall, Y/N putting himself in front of Jaemin, thinking that Jeno wasn’t quite done yet. Jaemin smiled fondly at the way Y/N stood before him even with the quivers in his hands.
“Now get lost before I live up to everything else I say.” Was all Jeno could muster with what he supposed was a boastful feeling swelling in his chest before he turned his back to them. However, he couldn’t help but feel his momentary triumph deflate as he peered over his shoulder for one more look, watching them walk away - hands in one another’s - under the hollowness of the sunset’s silence. It didn’t matter how he felt, what he was feeling. He taught Y/N a lesson, and that was enough.
“Jeno! What the hell!” Jisung spun Jeno around in a fit of feelings he hasn’t had arise in his chest for the longest time, since the last time he had Y/N’s hand in his the way it was in Jaemin’s. He grabbed Jeno by the collar of his uniform with a tearful grimace, only to be met by Jeno’s blank, unamused stare. Jeno easily tore away at Jisung’s meek grip on him but did nothing more. “That was so fucked up!” Jisung’s voice crumbled between his heavy breaths as he felt something running through his heart, ripping it apart, piece by piece, every time he looked over Jeno’s shoulder to see Y/N and Jaemin walking away together.
“I…” Jeno could feel the coral skies warping his words, and didn’t even make an attempt to speak. He was borderline speechless, stammering over his thoughts - something he never thought he’d catch himself doing again, especially in front of his team. But as he turned around to see Y/N guiding a soaking wet Jaemin toward the side exit doors furthest from them, part of Jeno thought that saying nothing was maybe for the best. However, he replied to Jisung anyway, lips contorting into a disgusted - but not surprised - frown. “I don’t see you doing anything about it.”
Jisung didn’t reply to him, didn’t spare him the time to play with any more of Jisung’s words or sunlit cries. He just threw the helmet in his hands to the side before shouldering past Jeno, who just stayed still, unmoving as he watched Jisung begin to chase after the shadows of Y/N and Jaemin on the wall.
“Where do you think you’re going…?” Jeno’s voice carried with it this bitter sting as he realized that he’d never laid his hands on anyone like he just did. It was all empty-handed threats until he actually did it to the star pitcher of the team he was facing the next day. It felt so different than what he had imagined, and he could only think of the regret that would bloom restlessly under his skin if it were Y/N there instead…
“I’m doing something about it.”
Leaving Jeno with his words, Jisung bolted toward the lost shimmers in Y/N’s eyes he could see fluttering in the sunlight, places they used to spend all their time until Jisung rendered the glow of all their memories dull and lifeless.
He just hoped he wasn’t too late to reignite their flames.
*
“Wait!”
Jisung’s frantic call to Y/N and Jaemin heading toward the school’s side doors turned them around near-instantly. As Jisung stumbled closer, he could see Jaemin’s shaking shoulders, still soaking wet and shivering under the chill of the breeze that threatened to knock all of them off balance. Y/N’s eyes were as filled with sadness as they were just moments ago, and all the stray light Jisung scrambled to catch in his hands for Y/N to reclaim; it was rendered useless slipping through his fingers when Jisung finally got a closer look and truly understood how he dimmed Y/N’s light.
Heaving and trying to get his words out, Jisung nearly crumbled under the weight of Y/N and Jaemin’s eyes, their silence sweeping all of Jisung’s attempts to gather his breath right out from under him.
All Y/N cared about was getting Jaemin out of the gold, as there was only so much he can do with caresses to Jaemin’s shoulders. No matter how warm the embrace of spring was supposed to be, the breeze ravaged the sunlight shattering around all three of them. It spared not a single ounce of mercy; just wanting to be left alone, and for all the cries and shouts and seething words weaving into the clouds to come to an end.
“I’m sorry…” Jisung finally managed to muster, fidgeting with the shreds of coral light between his fingers, and thinking of all the places it used to take him and Y/N back when it was always too early and never too late. He flinched when Y/N opened his mouth, and felt this painful ache of tension as Y/N couldn’t get anything out but a sputter of silence.
Jaemin filled in their spaces, though, his glare sharp and severe as he stood closer to Y/N.
“Sorry for what, Jisung?” Jaemin left no room for Jisung to answer, “watching Jeno tear us apart? Sitting there in silence as he threatened and practically persecuted us in front of you?”
“Please… I-I…” The gravity in Jisung’s words were nothing but a whine tangled up in his throat as he couldn’t find an excuse for all the ways he’s been a bystander to Y/N’s torment - the social execution of a person who always lit up his sky, made the days worth seeing the end of. Jisung had a hand in twisting the knife in Y/N’s broken heart with every single day he didn’t text back and pretended that what he was doing was alright.
“Save it…” Y/N finally said, averting his eyes from Jisung’s. They reminded him of so much he’s longed for. “Jaemin’s right… It’s taken me a while, but I feel like I finally know who you are. Everything we’ve ever been through has just meant nothing to you…” It hurt Y/N so much to say that, to remember all the days he and Jisung have wasted with smiles so bright their flushed cheeks ached, and think nothing of them.
He wondered if it pained Jisung to do the same thing, to sever the tapestry they spent years weaving together - in nights of interlaced fingers and sweet nothings, evenings hung upside down from Y/N’s bed thinking of all the things they can do when they’re old enough to escape the prison of their town’s rolling hills. The agony it might have caused didn’t stop Jisung from leaving Y/N in the first place by the time they were finally old enough to grow out of their small town.
Y/N supposed that he was Jisung’s small town, and that he was always meant to leave.
“That’s not true!” Jisung tried to protest, pleading with the logic in Y/N’s words. “It-it’s not!”
“Then make it make sense!” Y/N threw his hands up in frustration, feeling a sob rip through his shout. He didn’t care about the shimmer of tears threatening to stumble down Jisung’s cheeks, as he felt his own spill down his face, the sight of Jaemin standing tall yet speechless beside him was nothing but a blur. “I’ve been trying to think of a reason why you would fucking leave me! And how it was so fucking easy for you to just throw me away and pretend I never existed!”
Jisung’s silence and the breathless stammering that followed only festered Y/N’s anger. How could Jisung leave like that and not have a reason why…?
“TELL ME!” Y/N’s scream into the sky nearly ripped it apart, the way his words - so full of desperation - carved itself into the breeze made Jaemin and Jisung flinch. “Why can’t you give me a reason for just throwing me away…?”
“Y/N- I… I just…” An explanation was lost among all of Jisung’s thoughts, because the truth was that he didn’t have one. Not a reason that made sense, anyway, and not one that he could just apologize for and expect to be forgiven. “Please…” Jisung felt hopeless and empty; finally experiencing all the things he made Y/N go through.
“No…” Y/N shook his head with a withered whine that made Jaemin instantly wrap his arms around Y/N’s waist, bringing him closer despite how soaking and cold he was. “You don’t get to do that - just ‘please’ your way back into my life.” He couldn’t take it, for him to go through all he did just to accept Jisung’s pleas and sputters. There was nothing to forgive as Jisung stands before him now, empty handed. And Y/N didn’t know if he could find enough of his heart to ever look at Jisung the same way ever again. “I can’t take this right now. Just give me some space.”
Jisung watched Y/N and Jaemin turn their back on him and push themselves through the school doors with a mouthful of hollow words and dead air. Everything he wanted to say, the things he’s always wanted to say, singing in sparks on the tip of his tongue the moment Y/N’s silhouette was lost among the lifelessness of the school’s pale lighting. The moment that door closed on Jisung, that was when he never felt more alone - his thoughts echoing in the whistling of the breeze and the chatter in the grass beneath his feet, his unsaid words taunting him under the darkening sky, all of Y/N he took for granted in the empty space between his trembling hands.
Maybe Jisung really was too late…
He was too late the moment he turned his back on the best thing he had ever known…
*
“You didn’t tell me it was that bad…” Jaemin said into the empty, dimly lit hallways and foyers of the school, clinging to whatever warmth he could scrounge off the shine in the light and wherever Jeno didn’t completely drench with his water. Y/N’s silence and thought, his lip bitten in contemplation, was palpable to Jaemin, rough between his fingers. In a silent attempt to comfort Y/N, he reached out to lace his fingers with Y/N’s. The squeeze to his hand he earned back brought an optimistic smile to Jaemin’s face; although it faded mere moments later, still seeing a few runaway tears make their way down Y/N’s cheeks. “And Jisung too…? Y/N, what happened? Why did you hide all this shit from me…?”
Jaemin’s voice was gentle and sincere as he stopped Y/N in the middle of the hallway and wiped away the last of Y/N’s tears. Watching all the sadness contort what used to be a place for nothing but radiant smiles and wistful stares out of their smudged, middle school windows - it shattered Jaemin’s heart, made it ache in a way he never thought it ever would. The way every one of Y/N’s cries spilled into the sky that left both him and Jisung frozen in place, as if they were all breaths he’s held onto for so long, Jaemin was more furious than anything. How could Y/N have been living a life like this…? Where he’s been betrayed, wrung dry of all his love and cast away… How could Jaemin not have been here to protect him from everything?
Before looking for an answer that wouldn’t just make Jaemin roll his eyes and make his grip on Y/N’s hand that much tighter, Y/N pulled Jaemin further down the hallway, stopping at his locker and praying that he was lazy enough to leave a few spare changes of clothes on its hooks. As Y/N opened the locker and saw a light grey hoodie tucked in the back of it - one that looked more familiar than it ever has - he finally gathered his breath and steadied his voice.
“I just didn’t want to involve you in all of that, it seemed unnecessary-”
“But it’s not!” Jaemin grabbed at Y/N’s shoulders, eyes so full of desperation for Y/N to just set himself free of needing to fight his battles alone. However, as Jaemin thought about it, he realized that Y/N’s been forced to fight his battles alone for quite a while now. “Your entire world was flipped on its head and you’ve been left alone all this time! I can’t believe- how could… I just don’t get it.”
“I wish I could tell you and make it easier to understand, but I’m still trying to piece together how things went to shit…” Taking out the hoodie from his locker, Y/N held it out for Jaemin to take and change into, something that could give Jaemin a little bit more warmth that just what Y/N’s touch on his back and by his waist could give him. Jaemin instantly took it with a wide smile and began to peel off his soaking wet shirt and jacket, until, the feeling of the sweater in Jaemin’s fingers sparked something - a feeling that hasn’t changed despite how much time has separated him and Y/N.
“Is this mine…?” Jaemin turned it over to see the logo of their old middle school’s logo hanging on for dear life on the hoodie’s crest. Sure, Jaemin made sure to get it larger so he could grow into it - and hopefully Y/N too when he gave it to them during the last week of the summer they spent in each other’s arms. He never thought he’d be able to see it again, all of its loose threads and faded marks - memories of a time long lost to him and Y/N. Even more so, he never thought that the place it would be hiding was the back of Y/N’s locker. “Y/N… You kept it…”
“I… I guess I kept it for a rainy day, just in case. I also wanted to bring it so I didn’t forget about you and always think about you… But…” Y/N looked over it with his breath caught in his throat, thinking about how all the memories of him and Jaemin were right in front of him, yet it still slipped away. He cursed himself for not taking the fabric - and all the sleepless nights under streetlights that dyed it - between his fingers sooner and paying thought to where his first love could have gone. “I’m so sorry, Jaemin… I…”
“Don’t be sorry, please…” Jaemin tried cutting off Y/N’s whimpers with a comforting smile, bringing his hand to Y/N’s cheek. They wanted to grow up so badly that they grew apart from one another. At first, it was a hard concept to gather when Y/N was finally in front of him, but even in the short time they’ve been pulled into one another’s gravity once more, Jaemin learned that growing is alright, even if they were blooming in different directions. “I still have the paper rings we made each other back in middle school sitting on the top shelf of my locker. I always thought about you, but never did anything about it… If you’re sorry, then I’m sorry too, because threatening to forget about you was the worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life.”
“Jaemin…” Y/N felt so many things rising in him at once but just leaned into Jaemin’s touch. It made everything feel so much better.
“I’m not gonna break my promises again, okay…?” With a nod from Y/N, Jaemin caressed Y/N’s neck before shrugging off his jacket and gathering the hem of his shirt in his hands to peel it off. “So let me just get changed, and then we can get away from this stupid school.”
“Okay, there’s a bathroom around the corner-”
Jaemin paid no mind to any of Y/N’s words and just threw his shirt into Y/N’s locker, leaving the setting sunlight emerging through the hallway’s windows to carve out and spill down all the lines in his chest. Y/N felt himself freeze, as he followed where the coral shimmer of the evening sky lingered and pooled and melted and shattered all over Jaemin’s figure. Its glow was almost taunting Y/N, that and how frustrating slow Jaemin was taking to unfold the hoodie.
“Nah, it’s okay, nobody’s watching.” Dismissing Y/N’s comment long after it was suspended breathlessly in the air by Y/N, still in awe and shock of what he saw, Jaemin slipped on the hoodie with a throwaway murmur about how it still managed to fit. The hoodie, even after all the time and disregard it has weathered, still managed to embrace Jaemin’s edges in the same way it did back when the sunlight shone brighter. With everything Y/N needed to take in, he was surprised too.
Except for me… Y/N wanted to say, but he knew that if he were to blurt it out, that Jaemin wouldn’t be able to let it go for all the summers they plan to spend together.
“Okay, now we can go.” Jaemin hummed with a bright smile, completely oblivious to the flush he burned into Y/N’s cheeks. Y/N was glad that he could bury it under the sunlight to an extent, but he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to get that shirtless Jaemin out of his mind. Turning around as he couldn’t hear any footsteps shadowing him toward the exit, he lifted an eyebrow at Y/N, who finally recovered and scrambled to where Jaemin stood in the main foyer. “Here, have this.”
Y/N looked down to see Jaemin stretching his hands out toward him, his varsity jacket draped in his arms. His eyes went wide, and he snapped his head up to Jaemin’s shimmering eyes, his smile small yet bright, his fast, insistent nods making Y/N’s heart swell with all the warmth that flooded their awkward conversations back when they first met. It was just like the first time Jaemin did it back when the autumn air was something to fear. Jaemin would always wrap his jacket or hoodie or sweatshirt around Y/N’s shoulders with the same smile that he’s shining in the middle of these barely lit halls.
In the midst of everything changing and shifting so quickly, it was so comforting that there were some cracks in Y/N’s sunlit mornings that he didn’t need to hopelessly string together. If there was something that would always stay the same, as constantly as the moon greets the stars, it would be the warmth of Jaemin’s smile, the paradise in his hands.
“Seriously…?” Y/N was so hesitant to take the jacket, his hands merely ghosting it until Jaemin shoved it into his arms with a chuckle. “But this is like… Yours… It has your name on it and everything…”
“Well, when you show up to my baseball game tomorrow, then I know who you’ll be rooting for.” Jaemin watched Y/N bring it around him and pull it on with a smile so bright and proud that it nearly shorted out the lights above them. The moment Y/N’s hands were free, he grabbed him and pulled him closer, wrapping him up in an embrace that they felt like they haven’t shared in ages. And with the way Y/N’s deep sigh spilled down Jaemin’s back as he rested his chin on Jaemin’s shoulders - his second home for the two months they spent in each other’s universe and each other’s universe only - they both realized that it’s been far too long. “Now can we leave this place…? It’s giving me war flashbacks and I don’t even go here.”
“Of course, you pretty much got the tour already - vicarious depression, Jeno’s torment, hallways of people you don’t know yet somehow don’t like - so I think we’re good to go.” When Jaemin wrapped Y/N up in his arm before heading out the doors, he heard something that he didn’t even know Y/N had in himself either; a loud, echoing mouthful of laughter that spilled out of him, billowed around them like the haze of evenings still caught on their fingertips whenever they thought of each other too hard. At last, in the midst of everything, Y/N could finally manage enough breath above the surface to let out a laugh, feel weightlessness for a moment.
“Perfect…” Jaemin said, his eyes never leaving Y/N’s smile when he pulled Jaemin’s arm righter around his shoulders.
*
“By the way…” Y/N started, his voice rising above the now moonlit tree line. The sky was dark by the time they made their way back outside, violets of the night seeping in the spaces the sunlight left. At this point, they were just following each other’s steps back to the baseball diamond, the breeze reduced to a lazy whisper between the trees, the sky stoic and tired. Leaning against the cage to get a better look at Jaemin’s attentive gaze and pouted lips, Y/N nestled his hands into the pockets of Jaemin’s jacket.
They’ve been through so much, they’ve reclaimed so much time and spilled so many words, yet there was still so much for Y/N to say.
“I just wanted to thank you for everything, for protecting me and standing up for me…” Y/N trailed off into the night, his voice growing quiet and frail as Jaemin stretched an arm out to the cage Y/N was postured against, leaning in a little closer.
“Y/N…” Jaemin began, his voice sweet, sticking in the space between them that seemed to grow smaller and smaller the more Jaemin was drawn in, pulled in by the shimmer of Y/N’s eyes that he missed so much. The tired light in Y/N’s gaze seemed to dissipate into the indigos of the starlit clouds, and now, he just looked at peace, finally free enough to feel his own happiness. “I’m not gonna break my promises, I’ll always protect you.”
There was something that felt like it was prodding at Jaemin’s chest, and he looked down to see Y/N pressing into his stomach with an outstretched pinkie. Y/N held it between them as Jaemin arched an eyebrow at it, before letting a knowing smile slip out from under him. The memory of Y/N and Jaemin ending each night they spent together with a promise to see each other again, tying their pinkies together with smiles as bright as the futures they planned with each other.
“Do you pinkie promise…?” Y/N’s voice, barely above a whisper, wrapped around Jaemin’s fingertips before he linked their pinkies together with a chuckle. He made Y/N catch his breath, though, as he leaned down to kiss where their knot was tied between their knuckles, a smile lining each of the sparks he left to dance between their hands.
Jaemin wasn’t done, as he leaned in closer - even closer - to fill in the spaces that the starlight left for him to step into, his other hand raising to Y/N’s waist in a way that felt like second nature.
“Pinkie promise…” Jaemin whispered right at the corner of Y/N’s smile, his grin cutting his words short as Y/N’s hands worked up to Jaemin’s neck. Y/N relished in the way Jaemin’s skin felt against his fingers, the moonstained lilacs of their midnight walks dripping from his hands and down Jaemin’s chest being the last thing he saw before he closed his eyes with a hum and nudged his forehead against Jaemin’s. The echo of Jaemin’s words danced on the edge of Y/N’s lips, his breath scratching mischievously at the space between Y/N’s teeth.
Tangling his hands in Jaemin’s hair, bringing a low groan to spill from Jaemin’s idling smile, Y/N thought back to how he always wanted to know sweet Jaemin’s words and vows truly tasted. If only Jaemin could just come in a little closer, tilt his chin, grab his waist, pull him in.
Y/N nudged Jaemin’s chin up himself, Jaemin’s smirk already beginning to part, faint laughter already reduced to ashes as Jaemin welcomed Y/N’s melody.
They collided and the moonlight burst, falling at their feet in shimmers when Jaemin pushed Y/N up against the fence and threw all their caution to the wind that wasn’t there.
All their childhood hopes, their worn and weathered dreams that barely knew how to shine, they were all finding their light as they burned through each other. Y/N letting himself sink into the tides of Jaemin’s touch as he was pulled impossibly closer, and Jaemin feeling the sting of Y/N’s flush bloom under his fingertips as he reached up to Y/N’s cheeks. The sweetness that they could always taste, but never quite explain stifled their senses and rendered all the sparks they bit back absolutely useless.
Their soft smiles and nights of blue velvet were torn apart as tongues ran between teeth, and Y/N couldn’t have felt safer - breathing in the fires under their skin, the devotion that rose to the back of their throats with the midnight blues they held in their hands and stained each other with. They never would have thought, even in the daydreams Jaemin would wander off to in his daydreams in the walls of his high school, that the colours of the night they once had wrapped around their fingers could ever embrace them like this. He never thought he could embrace Y/N like this.
Now, Y/N’s hips are between his hands, and his kisses are buried in Y/N’s neck, beneath the surface where they planted all their flowers and planned to call home. Now, their touches can grow brave, embark on journeys beneath borrowed hoodies and t-shirts they’ll soon share.
They didn’t notice the burn of pure bliss coursing through them until they pulled back to take a breath. Y/N’s back pressed to the fence, Jaemin’s hands settling exactly where they were always meant to be, and Y/N’s hands smoothing against Jaemin’s neck as he held his face and caught all the light that he didn’t know he missed until he felt them dance on the tip of his tongue.
“So…” Jaemin rested his forehead against Y/N’s, tangling their heavy breaths between their lips once more before continuing. The affirmations of everything they felt as pure hearts and untamed lights, they were finally here in each other’s reach. It felt so relieving to finally do all the things they’ve been waiting for since their first stare from across a classroom. “Remember when we were kids…? We promised each other that as soon as we got our licences, we’d find a way to get out of this stupid town…?”
Jaemin took Y/N’s silence and flourishing smile as a ‘yes’, then guided Y/N’s gaze to a station wagon nestled into the corner of the parking lot. One they’ve always dreamed of, one big enough to hop into the back and sing their melodies into crystal waters and gilded skies, big enough to lay in each other’s arms and sink below the surface of a playlist Jaemin scrambled to make on the way to nowhere in particular.
“Well,” Jaemin tilted his head and tipped Y/N’s chin up to press a delicate, sweet kiss to the corner of his smile. “I know a place that overlooks the coastline-”
Y/N caught the end of Jaemin’s words, pushing them between his teeth in a kiss that set fire to their chests.
“That sounds absolutely perfect…” Y/N whispered into Jaemin’s smile before pulling back to take in the light of Jaemin’s grin. It always felt as if Y/N needed to re-comprehend that this was what he always wanted. It felt too good to be true the moment Jaemin landed in his hands at the library, and the moment Y/N landed in Jaemin’s when he pushed him up against this batting cage.
For Jaemin, too, it felt surreal, as if he was still lost in the cosmos they once left each other in as summer ended and so did they; however, having Y/N in his jacket and in his arms, it felt as if these pieces were always meant to fall back into place.
They were finally ready to carve their initials back into every sky that forgot about their legacy, to reread the pages of all the stories they’ve written into old bedsheets and withered horizons and fill in the blanks on the desks they shared oh-so-long ago. With the light of Y/N’s smile leading the way for them, and with how brightly Jaemin’s love bloomed, they know that they can retrace all their swept-over footsteps on coastlines and forest paths and rocky roads in no time.
“Then let’s start running, let’s run and never stop.”

Tumblr media
YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN CONFUSED LIKE YOU ARE NOW. when you heard a knock on your door, accompanied by the sound of two muffled voices bickering behind it, you expected it to be one of your classmates, chenle and jisung coming to ask for another stupid favor, or your lab partner coming to get extra notes for your project. you usually don't let people into your dorm after six pm, mostly because after six pm is time you spend strictly studying, and you do not need distractions when you're gonna be up all night losing sleep.
but no, none of that, you guess you aren't that good at predicting your fate.
when you open the door, rubbing your eyes, which hurt from the hours you spent staring down several biology papers, you pause at the sight before you.
there are three boys there, two of them going back and forth whilst one stands silent between them. their arguing must distract them enough that they don't notice you standing in the doorway, staring at the two of them like they're crazy.
"um".
why do you say um? maybe the general confusion of the situation is what makes your brain short circuit in that very moment, but you don't exactly have any actual words you can say. there is no reason these three very attractive guys should be at your doorstep at this time.
as quickly as you utter that word, you regret it, because the two formerly bickering guys turn their heads right towards you, gazes focused on you and only you.
suddenly, it feels like all of your senses heighten, your hands become sweaty, your breathing seems to become louder, and your face heats up to the point that your sure steam is going to start pouring out of your ears.
of course, you recognize the three at your doorstep, but the situation still doesn't click for you.
on the left is na jaemin, resident pretty boy na jaemin, the two of you had a political science together in your sophomore year, and while he did always seem to want to be more than friends, you chalked that up to his habit of looking like he's in love with all of his friends. his flirtatious words and romantic references never meant anything to you, because he's like that with every other pretty guy that goes to your school.
in the middle is lee jeno, class crush lee jeno, you know him because of a get together renjun forced the two of you to be apart of way back in your freshmen year, and while jeno is nothing short of beautiful, he's nothing like jaemin. jeno is less obvious in the romantic department, of course he has so many people falling at his feet, and you can't blame them. he's gorgeous, a true work of art, and the two of you have been told on certain occasions that you'd be a great couple, but nothing ever seemed to come out of that.
and on the right, lee donghyuck, star student lee donghyuck, always the top student, always wins the awards, you unfortunately know him the best out of the three, considering the two of you spent all summer together. it didn't go as well as you wanted it to, some things happened between the two of you that you don't feel like explaining right now. you haven't had a genuine talk since school began, both of you trying hard to erase that little summer fling away from your minds. you think he might be a little insane, much too smart for everyone's own good, but you can't look past his ethereal beauty either.
so what are these three doing on your doorstep on a school night?
before you can ask that exact question, donghyuck answers it for you.
"i'm here to take you out on a date".
you almost collapse onto the floor.
jaemin's eyebrows furrow, and he's quick to turn and glare at the older. "no you're not!"
"yes i am! i got here first!"
"you did not! and even if you did y/n doesn't want to go out with you—"
"i suggest you watch your tone, na".
you blink, dumbfounded at the news bestowed upon you. the two continue their back and forth argument, and your face only heats up more as it dawns on you that they're arguing about you, about taking you out on a date.
you don't know how you stand your ground.
"you too?" you barely manage the words, feeling as if you were about to pass out at any second, and you point your index finger at jeno, the most silent of the bunch.
he only nods. "i was hoping saturday..?"
"that makes no se— wait, you were hoping WHAT!?"
jaemin's screech is enough to make the once stone cold jeno flinch. a look of offense crosses the older lee's face, and any tranquility he had disappeared in an instant. "y/n and i are going out saturday".
"says who!?"
"says me?"
"he didn't even agree to your offer" donghyuck glares daggers at jeno, who imitates his gaze. he's pissed, and so is jeno, and so is jaemin, all three of them are pissed. "don't get so confident".
"it doesn't matter" jeno answers like it's a matter of a fact. "he likes me more than he does you".
"oh yeah?"
"yeah he does" jeno whispers as he leans closer to donghyuck, the words a taunting mantra to the younger, who looks seconds away from punching him. "he wouldn't go on a date with you even if you offered him a hundred dollars".
"you should really watch what you say".
"really? i'd love to see you even try and land a punc—"
"who sent you three here?"
your question is enough to get the two to stop arguing, and they slowly move away from each other. jeno pokes his tongue against the inside of cheek, and donghyuck just crosses his arms, an eye roll accompanying his action. jaemin gives the two a judgmental glance before focusing all of his attention on you again. "chenle".
"chenle?"
"well chenle told me—"
"chenle didn't tell you anything".
"how are you so sure? if i remember correctly, you said you weren't into y/n" jaemin grits his teeth, eyes pointed at donghyuck, who scoffs, humored by the words.
"since when? i'm the only one here whose ever done anything with y/n, you're too busy around with other guys and jeno's too much of a coward to confess".
"please, coward? if you're so in love with y/n maybe you should've told him that instead of ghosting him, that's pretty cowardly behavior".
you watch the three begin going back and forth, absolutely speechless. why are they fighting over you? why did chenle tell them to come here? why does this have to happen right now?
"i— um, shit uh" you awkwardly chuckle, hoping you don't sound as pathetic as you feel. "maybe we can chat about this tomorrow yeah? yeah! right, um, goodnight!"
you don't think twice before slamming the door on their faces, locking it behind you. you slide down the door and collide with the floor, face red, thoughts all over the place, and only one sentiment echoing in your mind.
you are going to murder zhong chenle.
"great job, hyuck, you scared him off".
donghyuck finds jaemin's audacity hilarious, so hilarious he even laughs. "i scared him off? if anything jeno did!"
"i didn't do anything" jeno argues, he really doesn't how the younger is speaking to him at the moment. "your just mad y/n's gonna end up going out with me instead".
"woah woah, who said that?"
"i mean.. we all know".
"whose we?" donghyuck challenges. "because, and don't take this personally, you couldn't even confess to the guy before this, what makes you think he'll want to go on a date with you?"
"you know your really getting on my nerves right now".
"okay okay you two" jaemin curses in his mind, how did he end up being the most sensible of the three? "don't start anything physical, it's y/n's choice at the end of the day.."
"which is why it's stupid of donghyuck here to think y/n wants to go anywhere with him".
donghyuck rolls his eyes again, but instead of looking at jeno this time, he looks at jaemin. "no, he's right, it's y/n's choice, and i'm gonna do everything to make sure i'm the one he's with on saturday".
"get over yourself" jeno remarks, glancing over at your door. "your not going to end up with him".
donghyuck hums, a snicker added onto it. "alright then, watch me prove you wrong".
"i'd love to see you try".
jaemin looks between the two, oh this is bad, this is very bad, but he isn't about to let them be able to take you out before him.
"may the best man win, then" jaemin gives the two overly aggressive pats on the back before turning around and walking the other way.
he doesn't care, he's getting that date.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: hello, i wrote this one because of pure boredom. hope y'all enjoy the mess, lovelots. reblogs and interactions are highly appreciated.
Tumblr media
▬  !! MARK LEE
Tumblr media
at first, mark did it for fun, but now, he can't seem to stop painting your back with his cum as he watches it messily flow down your body.
"SHIT— MARK— I'M GONNA—" you moaned out loud, on all fours gripping the pillows and sheets as you felt the wave of an alluring climax approaching you.
"hm? are you now, baby boy?", the way your walls contracted tightly around his cock sent mark into an overdrive of bliss and pleasure, and you could feel it by how his hands tightened their grip on your waist as he barebacks you — thrusting at a rougher and wilder pace you've barely felt before. "go on, pretty boy, let go for me, yeah?" he whispered as he neared his orgasm, "show me how good my cock feels inside your tight little ass."
he continued to fuck deep into you, watching you scream his name like a cheap little whore as you plead him not to stop, bringing you closer and closer to the brink of your orgasm.
soon as you came hard, mark couldn't resist the tightness of your hole clenching around him - the tightness of your walls urging mark to pull out as he cummed all over your stomach, both of your cum releases mixing.
you were still recovering from the prior orgasm, your legs quivering, when you felt mark pulling you by your legs closer, much rougher this time. he inserted his cock back inside you, the head of his cock kissing the sensitive flesh of your prostate that sent you to the edge once again, and it brought tears to flow down your cheeks.
with a devilish grin painted on his face, he kissed your tears as he thrusted relentlessly again.
︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▬  !! HUANG RENJUN
Tumblr media
renjun is obsessed with your abs and he's not shy about it. he loves them so much that he can't resist cumming all over them whenever he gets the chance.
the bed was shaking like crazy as renjun pounded into you, making the headboard slam against the wall. you were completely spent, your body limp and exhausted from all the intense fucking.
"you're so fucking perfect, puppy" renjun moaned as he kissed your shoulder and squeezed your chest. "your body was made for me."
you could barely even respond, too focused on the intense pleasure building up inside you. suddenly, you came hard, your body convulsing uncontrollably as your cum spurted everywhere all over your stomach. grinning, renjun moaned as he watched you orgasm hard in front of him - it was such a turn on seeing you go dumb chasing your own release.
renjun couldn't control himself too as he continued to groan loudly, thrusting hard to reach his own climax.
finally, he pulled out and shot his hot cum all over your abs, making a mess all over your toned stomach. "god, you're so fucking hot," he breathed as he massaged your abs and spread his cum around.
you drifted off to sleep, feeling completely spent and satisfied, as renjun whispered sweet nothings into your ear and cleaned you up.
︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▬  !! LEE JENO
Tumblr media
his breeding kink is high at all times, jeno would cum deep inside you and enjoy the pleasure of fucking it back inside over and over again — regardless whether may it be his fingers or his girthy cock, he just wouldn't let his hot cum spill out of you.
a series of whimpers left jeno's mouth as you ride him - drool seeping through the sides of his lips as he moaned your name shamelessly. "more please, my prince," jeno mumbled as he gripped the sheets underneath him, his cheeks flushed with a tint of soft pink all over it and his forehead sweating more and more. "daddy's close, little one - please don't stop,"
you couldn't even form coherent words to talk back as your high comes to a close - a whimpering mess is what you are right now as you ride his cock with abandon; loving how his cock stretches you in all the right ways. jeno grabbed your waist so hard, his fingers digging onto your flesh so tightly that you're sure to wake up with bruises the morning after - but you don't care.
jeno came hard, your name spilling out of his mouth as he rode his orgasm. his cum started streaming down your thighs as you proceeded to bounce more - eager to follow your awaiting high, and it didn't take long for you to cum all over his stomach.
but things weren't far from being over. jeno's grip on your waist tightens, commanding you to bounce more and keep going. "don't you dare fucking stop, little boy," he sterned as he flips you on all fours.
he nibbled your earlobe as you trembled from the overstimulation, "i'm going to fuck you all night long, baby boy," he said, his thrusts coming in deeper, not letting his cum escape out of your hole, "i won't stop 'til you're full with your stepbrother's cum."
︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▬  !! LEE HAECHAN
Tumblr media
he's a messy guy when he cums; haechan is shameless and doesn't care about cumming everywhere. as long as both of you get off, that's all that matters to him, even if he leaves a mess behind.
you ended up in the practice room, not the most private place, but it didn't stop you two. against the mirror, haechan pounded into you relentlessly - hard and fast. "damn, baby boy, you feel so good."
haechan grabbed your neck with one hand, and the other around your torso as he continued to fuck you. "h-hyuck, i'm gonna cum," you whispered, searching for bars to hold onto.
he released his grip on your neck and played with your cock, rubbing circles until you came all over his hand. the clenching of your hole made him dizzy, and he pulled out to cum, not caring where it landed.
as the both of you halted to catch your breath, haechan chuckled, "i do consider myself an artist," he said, pointing to his cum he painted on the practice room mirrors. you rolled your eyes, and he pulled you closer. he pushed you down to your knees and pulled your hair to look up at him, "do you prefer me painting on your face instead?"
︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎ ︎ ︎ ︎︎━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
▬  !! NA JAEMIN
Tumblr media
jaemin was all about cumming in your mouth and throat; making sure you swallowed every last drop of him. he wouldn't let any of his cum escape your mouth, or else he'd just have to fuck your throat again regardless if it's swollen or not.
you took all of him in your mouth, sucking him fast before he had to go back to the practice room. "you fucking whore," he said as he grabbed your hair. "so goddamn needy for me and my cock that you came all the way here for it."
you massaged his balls, causing him to groan and lean back in his chair. your head bobbed faster and you used your hands to fill in the spots your mouth couldn't reach. the sound of you gagging around his cock filled the room, and jaemin lives for it.
jaemin grabbed your hair to stop your movement as he pushed your head down on his thick cock, keeping you in place. you groaned around him, your throat not able to handle it as your nails began to sink deep into his thighs, leaving crescent-shaped marks on his skin.
"oh, what do I have here?" jaemin said, holding back his moans. "my little slut can't take all this cock? such a shame, my boy." he started thrusting into your mouth without any sign of mercy, not caring about the tears streaming down your cheeks.
jaemin moaned loudly as his warm cum filled your mouth, the salty taste coating your tongue. he pulled away and you coughed, his cum barely escaping your lips when he forcefully pushed his fingers in your mouth. "swallow, now."

"breathe on me"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: na jaemin x male reader summary: you live in a dorm with your best friends jeno, jaemin and jisung - with a friends with benefits deal with the first two. on a sleepless night, jaemin comes to your room looking for some action. notes: canon universe, smut, friends with benefits, reader is also an idol, cockwarming, jaemin is a top! *you can consider this to be placed in the same universe as "lazy sunday"!
words: 1.6k
Living with Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung led to the four of you growing close together until you were all each other's best friends. Despite not being part of the group, you clicked with the NCT Dream members so quickly that soon it did feel like you were all part of the same team. While you shared a room with Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung shared another.
After just a few months living together, you, Jeno and Jaemin ended up building a friends with benefits deal with each other during a period in which your schedules were so stressful that you guys ended up turning to each other for some relief. While Jisung isn't a part of the deal (he's straight!), he knows. (Ok, maybe he only found out about it after catching you guys in a threesome in the living room once... He was traumatized)
This time, you were sleeping peacefully on your bed. Jeno was also quietly snoring away on his own bed on the other side of the room. That was until a certain intruder comes into the room.
Silently, Jaemin opens your room door and sneaks in, wearing only pajama pants while his toned chest was on display. He tried clicking the door closed silently as to not wake anyone.
Swiftly, he makes his way to your bed and leans in close to you, hand on your shoulder. He calls your name in whispers while gently shaking you until you start to awaken.
With sleepy serrated eyes, you turn slightly to look at whoever interrupted your sleep. In the dark, you notice Jaemin's pretty face looking down on you. "Hm?"
"I can't sleep", he whispers. "Can I sleep with you?"
Instead of giving him a response, you move on your bed to make space for your friend to join you. You feel your back against the wall and wait for Jaemin to pull up the covers and crawl into bed.
You watch as he comes close and notice how he's not wearing any shirt. His chest is getting so toned, and his shoulders are already so big. You were loving this new buff era your friend was getting into.
As Jaemin settled on the bed, he moved his right arm around you and motioned you to come closer. You lied your head on his chest and felt as his arm wrapped around you, hand moving under your shirt to caress your back. You hummed in content.
Getting yourself more comfortable, you positioned your leg over your friend's and snuggled closer, using your right hand to draw circles around Jaemin's plump chest.
After a few seconds, you noticed how Jaemin's hand was moving suspiciously down your back, getting closer and closer to your sleeping shorts. Simultaneously, you felt on your leg as something grew bigger and harder under your friend's pants.
Ah, right. That's what he came here for.
"Jaemin."
"Hm?"
"Wanna fuck?"
You look as Jaemin slightly nods and drives his hand under the fabric of your shorts, grabbing a handful of your meaty ass and squeezing.
Mimicking his move, you also slip your hand under his pajama pants, feeling the wiry pubic hair he keeps tidy before feeling the hardening meat and wrapping your fingers around it.
Taking advantage of the fact that you have your face on his bare chest, you start sucking on Jaemin's nipple while you stroke his 7-incher to full hardness. He moans at the wet sound of your lips and tongue around his nipple.
Once Jaemin's cock is fully hard, you decide to slide down his torso until you're facing his tented-up pajama pants. You slide down the fabric to his mid-thigh and sees your friend's rock hard cock spring up in the dark, tip shining with precum.
Wrapping your hand around Jaemin's shaft again, you move your head closer to it and wrap your wet lips around the tip, tasting his salty precum and the taste of his milky skin. Jaemin tasted delicious.
You heard as Jaemin moaned and brought his right hand to the back of your head, motioning you to move on his dick. Giving in, you started to bob your head up and down his hard cock, thoroughly wetting it.
After a few minutes of endless sucking, you felt Jaemin pull you gently off his cock, a string of spit connecting your lips to the tip of his member.
You moved on the bed so you were face-to-face with your friend again and leaned in, connecting your spit-covered lips with his. Jaemin was eager and immediately darted his tongue inside your mouth, hand on the back of your head as you two made out intensely.
When you felt the need to pull back to breathe, you promptly adjusted your position so you were laying on your back to let Jaemin know you were ready for the next step.
Jaemin sat up and moved until he was sitting in between yours legs, using his strong hands to part them so he could fit his hips against yours perfectly. Before anything else happened, he leaned in again to make out with your for a few more minutes, still intense from arousal. You loved how eager Jaemin was whenever he was horny, acting all dominant while still being gentle.
While making out heatedly, you felt as Jaemin started to pull down your sleeping shorts along with your boxer briefs until you were naked from the waist down. The cold air-con air in the room hit your crotch and you felt a chill running down your legs.
Breathless once again, Jaemin pulled off and sat up in a way so he could remove his own pajama pants, leaving himself completely bare. Even in the dark, you couldn't help but marvel at the sight of your friend's hot body in front of you. Gorgeous face, strong arms, plump chest, defined abs, and a big juicy cock. Your best friend was one sexy motherfucker.
Knowing you had already been fucked by Jeno earlier, Jaemin didn't bother taking out the lube and prepping you too long. All he did was ask for you to suck on two of his fingers and then entered them in your ass for a minute before you were ready.
You watched as he spit on his hand and stroked his cock with it for a few seconds before holding it still and pressing it against your awaiting hole. Didn't take much to go all the way in as you were already used to it. You heard Jaemin groan once he was completely inside.
Worried that you might've woken up your other best friend sleeping on the other side of the room, you and Jaemin turned to check. Jeno was still sound asleep. You didn't care if he watched or not (it already happened multiple times before anyway), but you didn't want to bother him in his sleep and risk your friend waking up grumpy the next morning.
Relieved, you two faced each other again and you felt as Jaemin slowly pulled out before slamming his hips against yours again. He was a pro at it, he knew how to slam you hard enough to make you feel it but not enough to make too much noise. He smirked as you reacted to his strong thirst.
Jaemin had his hands on each side of your head so you had the privileged view of his huge biceps flexing to keep himself up while he thrusted in and out of your hole eagerly (but careful not to make a fuss). His chest and abs were starting to glisten a bit as sweat formed over his milky soft skin. It was a sight to behold.
After a few minutes of continuous thrusting, Jaemin started to feel his arms getting tired from holding himself up in that position. Pulling out of you momentarily, your friend motioned you to lay on your side as he positioned himself behind you and promptly made his way inside you again, continuing to fuck you right away.
You couldn't help but groan in pleasure once Jaemin started to hit your prostate repeatedly, hugging you from behind as he chased his own orgasm as well. You didn't bother stroking yourself to completion and just held onto Jaemin's strong arms that were holding you tight as you waited for him to make you cum untouched as he'd already done several times before.
You could tell Jaemin was getting close to his orgasm once his thrusts became less rhythmic and a bit more sloppy, slamming against your butt with more impact and less worried about not making too much noise.
You felt as he leaned in closer and his face was against your shoulder, heavy breathing blowing on your skin. You could hear his low grunting each time he thrusted in with force and tightened his grip around you.
It didn't take long before you felt your cock twitch and a rush of pleasure run up and down your body as you climaxed. While at it, you involuntarily clenched your hole and drew a long groan out of Jaemin, who reached his high right then and there, cumming inside you as he pressed his nose against your neck as to try holding back a louder moan while his legs trembled slightly at the intense orgasm.
You two stayed still for a couple minutes, breathing heavily as you recovered from your intense climaxes. You felt as Jaemin lazily left a few wet kisses on your neck and muttered out a deep "thanks" before he reached down for the blanket that had been tossed around unknowingly during sex to cover the two of you back again.
Once the room was silent again, you two noticed as Jeno snored softly on his bed on the other side of the room, letting you know he never once woke up while Jaemin pounded into you. Getting comfortable, you two drifted off into a peaceful slumber while Jaemin was still balls deep inside your ass and kept his arms around you.

after jaemin gets hurt in a fight, someone unexpected takes care of him
content : 1.7k words, angstish to fluff, university!au, mentions of fighting and blood, egotistical jaem
( a/n ) just finished this so sorry if it's rough !!
Tumblr media
y/n sighed. he looked around impatiently after knocking on the door of his friend's dorm room. donghyuck had called him earlier in a panic, concerned about his roommate who came home after apparently getting into a fight off campus. y/n wasn't surprised when he first heard this. donghyuck's roommate, jaemin, was not exactly a nice person. at least not in y/n's opinion.
donghyuck opened the door in a hurry before pulling his friend inside.
"oh my god, thank you for coming so late at night."
"i still don't see why you can't just take care of him," y/n complained.
"i don't like blood. or violence." donghyuck handed him a first aid kit and pushed him toward jaemin's room.
"i better be getting paid for this," y/n muttered. he carefully made his way into the bedroom to see jaemin holding an ice pack against his head. y/n sighed again. jaemin didn't look nearly as bad as donghyuck described on the phone. just some bruises and a couple cuts on his face.
"what are you doing here?" jaemin questioned as he lowered the ice pack. he sounded more rude than he intended, which made some guilt flood his chest, especially when y/n didn't answer. but, of course, he definitely wouldn't let y/n know that.
jaemin watched y/n sit down on his bed and open the first aid kit, setting out some of the supplies before looking up at him. jaemin felt himself instantly tense up when y/n examined his face. his injuries were nowhere near serious, but it'd be safest to go ahead and clean him up so he could heal well.
"you didn't have to come," jaemin said. he tried to sit up a bit, but ended up sinking back into his pillows because of the bruises he'd earned.
"well i did." y/n's voice was sharp, short from irritation.
"but you hate me."
"correct."
"but you're helping me anyway?"
"correct again. good to know you haven't lost any braincells up there."
jaemin rolled his eyes and turned his head to look out of the window, annoyed. he winced after trying to take a large inhale.
"where does it hurt?" y/n asked.
"i'll be fine, you can go."
"jaemin."
jaemin's eyes flickered over to y/n, whose face was blank as he waited for jaemin's answer. he didn't know how y/n managed to scare him, but he did nonetheless.
"..my side," he finally responded. y/n watched as the male's hand went to clutch around his ribs.
"i'm gonna lift your shirt a little, okay?"
jaemin nodded. "i knew you always wanted to see me shirtless."
y/n stopped, giving him another blank stare in disapproval. jaemin gulped.
y/n resumed lifting his shirt to begin inspecting around his torso. he could see a large bruise purpling around the bottom of his ribcage. other than this, his skin was flawless. soft and tanned beautifully. y/n quickly avoided staring any further at his skin and abs.
"how'd you even do this?" y/n's fingers drifted cautiously over the growing bruise. jaemin shivered at the chill from his touch, although he almost thought he might've liked it.
"fighting."
"like, fist fighting? ..why?"
"hyuck's ex has been bothering him."
y/n looked up to meet jaemin's eyes. "so you fought him?"
"fucker was coming around here too much. it was annoying for both me and hyuck. i didn't plan on fighting him, i just wanted to tell him to stop. the fight just happened."
y/n stayed quiet. that was somewhat acceptable, he supposed.
"i still won though," jaemin added quickly as if anyone was keeping score.
"well, he also landed some points on you didn't he?" y/n countered, gesturing to the cut on his eyebrow and his slightly busted lip. jaemin didn't reply this time. y/n smiled to himself. he liked when jaemin's ego took a hit.
y/n lowered his shirt back down gently. "your side should be fine. it'll probably keep bruising a little and the color might change. just don't do anything too strenuous and it'll heal."
"what about working out??"
y/n returned his attention back to the first aid kit, preparing to clean up the cuts on jaemin's face. "your call, i guess," he answered.
jaemin groaned. he hoped his trips to the gym could continue as usual, but he wasn't so sure with how little he could move.
"now let me look at these," y/n's voice sounded through jaemin's thoughts. he leaned closer to the male's face and took his chin gently. tilting his head to see better in the light, y/n looked over the slit in his eyebrow.
jaemin swallowed hard. his eyes skimmed over y/n's face. they'd never been this close before. his heart was racing and he couldn't seem to look anywhere else. he was beginning to realize just how attracted to y/n he was. y/n, who had always just been donghyuck's quiet and slightly rude best friend, but now all jaemin really wanted to do was kiss him.
"don't get in another fight. i don't wanna have to patch you up again," y/n said suddenly. jaemin hadn't even noticed that he was already cleaning the small wound on his eyebrow.
"maybe i should get in a fight every week just to see you."
y/n froze. he couldn't have heard that correctly.
"are you flirting with me?"
"maybe," jaemin replied quickly. y/n scowled at his confidence.
"well you can forget it. i'm not flirting back."
"why?"
"cause you're-.." y/n froze again for a moment, resulting in jaemin's unscathed eyebrow twitching upwards in intrigue.
"i'm..?" he urged.
y/n found himself looking directly at jaemin now. his view drifted over the male's lips for just a second before shaking his head and returning to his cut brow.
"a jerk," y/n finally finished.
it was quiet after this. y/n continued cleaning jaemin up. he was slow and careful, insistent on making sure nothing would get infected. he secured a tiny strip bandage over the first cut before pulling away. jaemin's lip still needed seeing to, though.
"so you're telling me you're not even a little attracted to me?" jaemin broke the silence between them.
y/n stifled a chuckle, "why would i be?"
"cause i'm hot. obviously."
y/n couldn't seem to think of a good response to this. he just kept to himself and began wiping some of the blood from jaemin's lip.
"you aren't denying it," jaemin persisted. y/n sighed for the nth time. his grip on jaemin's chin tightened.
"stop talking. i can't take care of your lips when you're moving this much."
"i can move my lips somewhere else if you want."
y/n instantly stood up to leave at this response. a large huff of air left his chest before jaemin rushed to grab his hand.
"no! i'm sorry, please stay. i'm sorry," jaemin pleaded.
y/n turned to look at him. he felt pretty unconvinced, but the sudden seriousness written on jaemin's face made him sit back down. he picked up where he left off, cleaning the other's bloody lip. jaemin's hand hadn't left y/n's, which the latter only noticed after a minute or so. but he decided not to say anything about it.
time felt slow now. y/n finished with the second cut and set everything back into the first aid kit. jaemin hadn't said another word. his demeanor was almost completely different. y/n was surprised and even a little worried.
he finally sat back with a fulfilled exhale. jaemin looked at him, eyes wide with admiration. with thanks, even. y/n wondered where this jaemin came from. his line of sight drifted over to see jaemin's hand that was still clutching his bruised torso, making his brows furrow from worry.
"you can move right?" he asked.
"huh?"
"your side. you can still move right?"
"oh! yes, don't worry. it hurts but i can move," jaemin answered happily.
"hm, okay.." y/n still felt unconvinced. more so because of his sudden change in attitude rather than his injuries. "i can come back tomorrow to check on you again if you want."
jaemin quickly nodded at the idea, smiling largely. the stretch of his mouth made a little more blood seep from his bottom lip, resulting in y/n quickly grabbing a rag to stop the bleeding again.
"thank you," jaemin said softly.
y/n's heart skipped. he wasn't sure why. out of all his time knowing na jaemin, he'd never gotten a sincere word from him.
"you're welcome. don't be so stupid from now on."
jaemin nodded. "i promise."
as the silence fell on them again, their eyes locked before eventually moving to each other's lips. it was clear to both of them where this was going, and y/n was in disbelief at himself. was he really leaning in to kiss someone he'd always hated?
jaemin's hand left it's clutch on his side to instead cup y/n's face, their lips finally meeting.
after pulling away, jaemin squeezed the other's hand as if reassuring himself that everything was real. he wanted nothing more than to keep kissing him and hold him for the rest of the night, but he knew that'd be a little too hard on his injuries at the moment.
"is there a chance we could do this again tomorrow?" jaemin asked. the tone of his voice had changed to a cute, happy one.
y/n rolled his eyes, but jaemin could see the smile he was harboring before he got up from the bed again.
"you should get some sleep. i'll, um.. i'll call you in the morning and i'll try to come over after classes."
jaemin's face brightened at those words. "really??"
y/n nodded, still trying to hide his own happiness. "sleep well, jaemin."
"goodnight, y/n!"
jaemin watched him slip out and close the door gently, already missing him.

Have a great day !!
——————————
“What took you so long? I missed you…”  he whined, earning a giggle from you as you lay next to him, Jaemin wasting no time in pulling you tightly into his chest. "I'm sorry sweetheart. I stopped off at the store to get us snacks and your coffee." you murmured, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead. "Guessing you feel lazy today?" you asked, caressing his cheek. He hummed, delicately holding your wrist and pecking it. “Let’s just stay here–I don’t ever want to move.” he mumbled, nuzzling into your neck more.
He held you in his arms, burying his face into the crook of your neck and took a deep inhale, inhaling your scent. "Just let me hold you like this forever." He sighed contentedly as he wrapped his arms around you, nuzzling his head into your neck and giving you soft nuzzles with his face while he pressed his body up to yours. "I'm not complaining, nana." you whispered, kissing his cheek. "I love you." He murmured softly against your skin, giving you light kisses on your cheek and neck while still holding you in his arms and nestling his head in your neck. He ran his fingers through your hair, lightly scratching his nails on your scalp, loving the feeling of you in his arms, the warmth of your skin, your scent, everything about you.
He hummed softly, loving the words of affection you were giving him. His arms wrapped around you tightly, holding you close against him as a way to reassure himself that you were there. He kissed your cheek again, rubbing his face against yours as he buried his face into the crook of your neck and took a deep exhale, his nostrils filling with the scent of you. He hummed softly, pressing his head against yours as he closed his eyes and exhaled, finding comfort in your presence and touch.
He could never have a bad day as long as he had you.

not-so-opposites attract
na jaemin x male reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cw: some bit of chest worshipping, nipple play, rough sex, enemies with benefits, porn with no plot, breeding, a sparkle of dacryphilia, kinda 3rd person pov at the final sentence.
an: this was rushed and short, idk what i did but i love jaemin and his chest so….
everyone knew m/n and jaemin were mortal enemies since day 1 at university, they're both smart and started to compete against each other to always be the first. bit not everyone knew that they been fucking behind doors like bunnies. it all started in one of they usual bickering "aww does baby y/n gonna cry again for not being the number 1 again" mocked jaemin, "shut the fuck up stupid asshole, I will never gonna cry for something related to you… you can't make me cry dumbfuck" replied y/n angrily… "I'm sure I can make you cry dumbo" jaemin said while pushing y/n's shoulder to the back, "bet" said y/n with a mocking smile.
"come on, don't hold back those pretty tears y/n, let them out" jaemin teases y/n while pounding hard his ass. y/n was doing everything that has never been done before to don't cry and hold back his moans, but it was impossible with jaemin's big dick brushing his prostate, making him roll his eyes for the delicious sensation…
y/n decided to just give into the pleasure and just enjoy the exciting sight he has in front of him. "yes, that's a good boy" jaemin kissed and licked y/n's tears and the kisses him "fuck it jaemin, fuck me hard and deep, make me cry for the pleasure" y/n demanded and jeamin decided to just follow the order and started thrusting at an animalistic pace. meanwhile y/n's stare was fixed onto jaemin's chest looking how big is it and how it bounces everything he pounds him… "like what you see?" jaemin asked you looked at him and it was the most perfect view you have ever seen, jaemin looking directly at you with his pretty eyes, covered in sweat and showing you that goddamn perfect smile, y/n just nodded, "then do something with them" winked the older.
y/n starts to just squeeze the older's chest, pinching his nipples and sucking on them "fuck you're pecs taste so good jaemin, I might get addicted to it" moaned the younger sucking on one nipple with playing with the other, "you can have them every time you want nasty boy, and i am gonna keep excersing them to keep 'em plump just for you" replied jaemin and immediately kissed y/n.
both keep fucking for more than an hour, y/n abused hole was red, gaping and oozing with jaemin's cum "it feels so good inside you fucker i might get addicted to it too" whispered jaemin who was laying on top of y/n after pulling out his dick, "you can have it anytime you want too I guess…" whispered y/n too who was kissed by jaemin. both fighting for dominance with their tongues, a battle that obviously jaemin won, drool falling for their mouth while they kissed so desperately… "I hate you so fucking much jaemin" said y/n, "i hate you too fucker" smiled jaemin kissing y/n's forehead "now let's get clean and keep fighting, sex with you is better when your angry, you know" the older winked making y/n blush "stop talking bullshit motherfucker" the younger punched jaemin who helped y/n getting dressed.
since that day the pair keeps fucking while they still swear they hate each other… maybe at the end of the day they're both dumb because they don't know that what they feel is the other 4-letter word…

you're talking too much. you can feel yourself growing tired of your own voice but you can't stop your lips from moving. talking to sungchan came so easily. he was all ears--nodding his head along to any topic you snowballed into. he doesn't remember how the story started nor how it ended with you laughing so hard you almost trip on your feet. but he is quick to react--reaching for your waist as you tumble sideways.
this time you're sober. so painfully sober that you can think clearly about the size difference between the two of you. his large hand holds a large portion of your side, the firm grip taking you back to the night at the club. but his hand doesn't let go of your waist even when you catch your balance. it stays on the waistband of your pants--the two of you suddenly frozen in place as you pan your gaze from his hand to his face. you lick your lips absentmindedly--hyper aware of his lingering touch and rosy cheeks.
he is the first to speak, mumbling a quiet sorry before he retracts his arm. the sudden act catches you off guard. it leaves you feeling empty--feeling the cold attack your body again now that he isn't there to keep it from getting to you. but your heart rate doesn't slow down. you can feel your heart thump in your chest--scared it might jump out as you finally manage to ask him the question that's been sitting on the tip of your tongue all night, "is this a date?"
the question stops sungchan in his tracks again. you're afraid you asked at the wrong time--watching as he shoves his hands into his pockets to grasp at something. he is speechless. opening and closing his mouth several times before finally finding his voice again, "do you want it to be?"
he answered your question with another question leaving you to wonder if you had completely misread the situation. you were clueless--sure--but not so much that you missed how sungchan was treating you the whole night. it was a date. there was no denying that. but all you can manage is a head nod to indicate your answer. one you're not so sure that he saw but you leave it at that.

NA JAEMIN X MALE READER
Waiting for you
"I'll wait for you." Y/N promised Jasmin, as they sat together under a tree. "I'll wait until you get back from service and we can do anything we like."
It was nearly time for Jasmin to go for military service, and his Japanese boyfriend was promising to come back. This alone mad tears gush out of Jaemin's eyes.
"Why're you crying?" Y/N asked xoncernedly, wiping the tears away.
"I just love you. Like a lot." Jaemin babbled. "Like till the end of the world."
"I love you too." Y/N smiled, intertwining his hand with Jaemin's. "Let's go eat."
He stood up and Jaemin did too, the couple heading back to the house for dinner.

when jaemin asked you out, you had never felt more elated. you spent most of the night picking out your outfit and on the phone with jeno as haechan rummaged through your clothes. he claimed, “you need to look good but not like you’re not trying to look good.” whatever that meant. jeno just sighed over facetime and told you to wear something comfortable and to remember to bring a jacket. haechan, the self-proclaimed genius, suggested you don’t bring one so jaemin could offer you his.
in the end, you threw on a pair of jeans and an oversized hoodie. “it’s an amusement park, hyuck. it’s not like he’s taking him to some fancy fucking dinner.” jeno stressed from where he sat in his bed in his dorm, video game lights flashing on his face. haechan just shook his head, claiming jeno had zero fashion sense. he perked up when your phone went off, the brunette jumping in place and ushering you out of your dorm when he read jaemin’s text aloud. “he’s downstairs in the lobby, you idiot, go!” haechan shrieked, pushing you towards the door after throwing you your phone that you miraculously caught.
“i’m going, bye jeno, hyuck! love you guys!” you called out as you closed the door behind you, hearing your best friends bickering as soon as you left. you almost wished the elevator ride down was longer because you weren’t prepared for how good jaemin looked. his hair was still green, dyed on a dare from a drunk chenle and jisung, but he pulled it off. he wore a leather jacket over a hoodie with a pair of jeans. it looked like he had the same idea in mind. he beamed brightly when he noticed you walking towards him, eyes crinkled in that overly endearing way. “hey!” he grinned, taking in your outfit.
“looks like we decided to match.” he teased, his hand immediately finding your own and linking your fingers. his thumb found a soft rhythm against the back of your hand, calming your nerves ever so slightly. it was like a dream, being with him like this. yes, you’ve held hands before. yes, he’s rubbed circles into your skin. but that was all before you knew he reciprocated your feelings. you could only grin bashfully back at him, entranced by his smile that sparkled like the stars at night.
the walk to the amusement park wasn’t far, the time flew as jaemin cracked jokes with his odd humor that made you laugh until your stomach hurt. by the time you reached the ticket booth, your face hurt from smiling so hard. when you went to reach for your wallet, jaemin gave you a look. “nuh uh, i asked you out, so i’ll be paying. thank you very much.” he scrunched his nose up at you before a smile broke out on his face again. you held your hands up in defense, letting him do as he pleased.
he kissed your head before getting the tickets, leaving you with your fluttering heart. you watched him fondly as he chatted animatedly with the vendor, grabbing the slips of paper before beckoning you over. you couldn’t help the skip in your step as you walked next to him, passing through the amusement park gates. an involuntary gasp left you at all the pretty lights, every ride and booth giving off neon hues. jaemin watched you fondly as you took in the sights, the smells, and the people.
“jaem, i’ve never-” you tried, but he beat you to it. “been here at night time, right?” he finished, a cheeky smile pulling at his pretty lips. you stared at him in awe for a moment, hardly believing he remembered that. you had told him that you’d never gone at night when you, him, and mark were drunk off your asses after exams had ended last year. his soft eyes only stared back at you fondly, layers of affection running deep within the warm pools hidden behind long lashes.
he let out a soft chuckle, pulling you along with him and past the entrance to the park. he scanned the various attractions, one catching his eye and lighting a fire within him. he turned to you abruptly, face serious. you wondered what was wrong at first. “i’m gonna win you the cutest fucking stuffed animal ever.” he said firmly, tugging you behind him as he beelined over to the colorful booth. you let him, staring after him dumbly before breaking into a large grin.
he grinned at your happy chuckling, feeling accomplished. because it was getting late, the booth didn’t have a line. it still had some cute prizes, too. jaemin zeroed in on the bunny nestled in the corner of the prizes, it was a warm brown with a red bow around its neck. he immediately decided that one was going to be yours. the vendor greeted the both of you with a smile, one far too tight-lipped to be genuine, as he set up the cups. if there was anything jaemin was weirdly good at, it was carnival games.
he slapped some money in the man’s open hand and picked up one of the balls on the counter. the man’s grimace of a smile turned more smug, sure of himself that jaemin wouldn’t knock down each small pyramid of cups. you smiled back at the man, deviously so, and it made him gulp. you watched with satisfaction when jaemin knocked each stack down effortlessly, the man’s mouth opening and closing like a fish. jaemin grinned, asking for the bunny he wanted, presenting it to you proudly once it was within his grasp.
you giggled at his sunny demeanor, finding him so painfully endearing as he pulled you along again. you spent around an hour visiting different booths and games, stopping to grab popcorn or cotton candy. you hummed happily as the wispy candy dissolved on your tongue, scrunching your nose at jaemin when he pressed a sticky kiss to your cheek. he laughed joyfully at you as you wiped the residue off your skin, grinning impishly when you playfully punched his arm.
when your eyes met, it felt like the whole world slowed to a stop, yet sped up all at the same time. the lights from the merry-go-round you stood in front of bounced off jaemin’s hair and skin, lighting him up. the sweet song from the ride vanished as you zoned in on the sugar still clinging to the corner of jaemin’s mouth. you found yourself leaning in, slowly, eyes flickering to the warmth of his. when his eyes lidded, honey brown dazedly looking into yours, you found the confidence to close the gap.
pressing your lips against his skin was all too sweet, electric surges shooting down your arms and into your fingertips. gently, you licked the sugar from his lip before pulling away. when he chased after you, hazy eyes darting between yours, you felt like you could do anything. you gave him a lazy smile, taking in his awe as he continued to gaze at you. this time, you pulled him along, sending him a smile that could rival the sun itself.
the walk to the ferris wheel was quick, with jaemin’s surroundings blurred as his focus remained solely on you. he stumbled over his feet, suddenly having two left ones as he tripped over himself just trying to keep up with his emotions. he tingled where your lips met his skin, he was still trying to catch up to what happened only moments ago as his mind replayed the feeling of your tongue against his lip.
he was brought back to the present when his back hit the seat of the cabin you chose, suddenly aware you were now off the ground. your hand was still holding his, warm against his cold one. everything about you was so very warm. you made him feel warm, his heart would race just at the thought of you. he didn’t realize he was staring at you, watching your every movement and committing the curve of your face to memory. he felt himself flush when you turned to him, smiling that obscenely soft smile you seemed to reserve for him.
“what is it, jaem?” you cooed, bringing his hand enclosed by yours to your lips. those pretty lips that felt like flower petals against his skin. he felt himself stutter. the lights from below that poured through the windows of the cabin made you glow, and jaemin felt his breath catch in his throat. you were stunning. “i really like you… like a lot, " he mumbled, holding your hand tighter. his doe eyes were swimming with genuine emotion, and if you looked hard enough, you were sure you’d see hearts floating within them. you grinned fondly at him, squeezing his hand back. “i really like you too, nana.”
he breathed out slowly in relief, no longer holding it in as he smiled cutely at you. you brought your free hand up to his face, delicately cupping his cheek. your thumb caressed his heated skin slowly as you just looked at him. really looked at him, for all he was. he was the boy who had always been there for you, the one who always helped you study even if he had an exam coming up. he was the boy who helped you mend your broken heart after a breakup in freshmen year, unaware that you fixed the fracture in your chest by falling in love with him.
he was the boy who knew your food and drink orders, the one who’d help soothe your social anxiety when it became too much. he was the boy who sent you songs that reminded him of you. he was the boy of your dreams, and you could hardly believe that he thought the same of you. he was the boy you fell in love with. you both leaned in a little closer, close enough where you could count his eyelashes if you wanted to. his gaze flitted between your eyes and mouth, silently begging you to let him kiss you. you huffed a laugh, rolling your eyes fondly. without warning, you closed the small gap just as your cabin stopped at the top of the ferris wheel.
jaemin felt like his chest was exploding, his heart fighting desperately to escape his ribcage and seek refuge next to yours. you weren’t faring much better, a soft noise spilling from you when jaemin held the back of your neck, pulling you closer, deeper, into the kiss. he gently prodded at your bottom lip with his tongue, asking for permission. you denied him, instead pulling away and enjoying when he chased after you again. the fireworks in your chest never fizzled out, bursting within you as you pressed your forehead against his, catching your breath. his eyes fell shut, fighting the urge to kiss you senseless.
“i know this is kinda sudden, but will you be my boyfriend?” jaemin panted softly against your lips, pretty eyes searching yours. you beamed at him, radiant and luminous as you pressed a kiss to his cheek. “there’s nothing i’d want more than that.” you whispered ecstatically, brushing his hair away from his eyes. he laughed in disbelief, that charming smile back on his face as he stared at you, knowing that this moment was to be over as soon as your cabin met the ground. that didn’t matter though, because he knew that he’d have many more moments with you like this. “i love you.” he finally said, the night sky his witness to his confession.
“i love you, too.” you said back, still admiring his eyes as they sparkled just for you. “i always will, jaem.” you sealed your promise with another kiss, a chaste one, but it meant just as much. jaemin grinned at you once more, and you were sure it was the prettiest one you’d ever seen. “always and forever.” he promised back. and with that, you knew your heart would be safe with him, for as long as he wanted to hold it.

With the amount of times you hit the door frame against the overhanging bell of the shop, it’s no surprise that the older woman recognises you.
Usually, she greets her customers brightly, especially those who look nervous and overwhelmed by her overflowing love and care towards the flowers that she prides herself on. At first, it was like that for you too, but the brightness of it all only lasted a few milliseconds at most.
She’s not new to her job; no, she’s not. She’s been doing this for years, having been brought up to it by her mother who has heavily influenced her to decorate all kinds of events with the delicate being, bringing in colours from one corner of the room to the other. But she knew the second you walked in her door without having to take your hat, scarf or sunglasses off, that you’re different from any of the other customers.
She can sense it from far away: a heart that has stopped beating. Amidst the chaotic, busy world, where most of the time a pin cannot be heard even in the library, she can feel the dejected feeling that your heart clenches painfully and that it never begs to differ. She wonders if you’ve always been like this or if you change under a different circumstance. Did her shop remind you of something unpleasant? Was it making you remember a painful memory that you never want to revisit ever again?
But you always kept coming back. If not every day, every second day. And this, without fail.
She wishes she had the courage to ask why the corners of your lips have never raised, why your hands are always limped by your side, swaying tirelessly beside your even tired heart. She wishes she could ask why your eyes are always so puffy and sometimes bloodshot when you bow to her as a greeting whenever you exit. And, she would always wonder the reason behind why you would pick up the same flowers every time. Again, with the number of times you visit, she wonders if you’re giving them away or if you just like to fill your room, and perhaps at this point house, just like her.
She never asks because of the way you held the stem of her flowers between your hands. It’s an interesting way to handle her art: you rest the bottom of the stem on your palm with your fingers curving up to make a little bowl while the fingers of your other hand are curled towards the centre of your palm, the little circle however always big enough that when you step over to the counter, the green stalk bounces around the circumference of the circle as you take your step towards her.
Just like every other day, you tapped your card on the machine and left after mouthing a ‘thank you’ when the affirmatory tick was displayed on the screen, a pair of curious eyes behind your slumped shoulders.
Your feet take you to the place that you go to every day, the navigation of getting there already deeply ingrained in you to even try and suppress. With each step, comes the setting of the city that you used to walk with your beloved boyfriend. So many memories are spent in every turn of the city, with every store being visited once whether it be a cafe or a baby clothing store. There was usually no purpose to your visits but the hand that held yours tightly made you remember that sometimes roaming around with no purpose brings the best moments in life.
The scent of the ramen shop across the street makes you hold your breath for a second, not wanting to trigger the accompanying cilantro scent that your nose remembers. The whirring of the coffee machine that you just passed only makes the inside of your mouth dry, remembering the unhealthy shots of caffeine that your boyfriend would drink without a thought in mind. The uneven paths of the ground play with your balance but this time, Na Jaemin isn’t here to hold on to you or even playfully joke around with you to say that he will ‘never let you fall the same way you already fell for him now’.
God, you just want to experience them again.
The way your friends found their significant others while you mull over the fact that Jaemin has left and will never come back. Not in this life, at least. So many times you would pray that you’ll find someone else but even when another person has shown interest in you and you accepted their offer to take you out on a date, you find yourself only thinking of Jaemin endlessly.
At first, you thought he cursed you. Just like how he would say he would if you ever woke him up from his after-school nap even though it was supposed to be a movie date at the cinemas.
But now you know that you’re just not ready for the change that took away the only person who loves you and that you love back an infinite times more. You’re not ready to have another person holding you, kissing you and whispering sweet nothings to you no matter your mood.
You just want Na Jaemin back.
“Hey…” You arrive at your destination, the glossy stone reflecting the sullen look on your face, hair messy both from the win and simply not caring about readjusting it back; that was supposed to be Jaemin’s thing after all. “How are you doing today?”
Your choice of clothing today is questionable: white shorts when you know that you will be sitting down on the ungrassed Earth. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop you because all you wanted after a tiring day of high school and trailing behind your friends who had their arms joined with the love of their life, is to just talk to Jaemin in a more eye-levelled state.
The conversations are endless and you make sure not to leave the slightest bit of detail from the day. You try your hardest to be positive, knowing well that Jaemin will always like you that way but one of the reasons why you love him is because if you did cry, he would still love and care for you without judgement or doubt. And the realisation that you’ll never see those eyes that you have fallen in love and would get lost in sinks in again.
You sob. Cry. Weep. Bawl.
You could scream. Yell. Shout.
And it’s killing you inside all the same.
“I’m so tired of being so lonely when there’s so many people around me, Nana.” Your chin rests on your folded knees to your chest, arms around your legs but hands still holding the flower the same as before. “I’m so tired of being jealous of my friends that they’re still making happy memories with their other person.” The tears stream down your face even more, gulping down your sorrows and pain.
You relish how the coldness of the wind numbed your cheek; at least you’re feeling something.
“I do believe that the time when everything will be better will come and I do believe that the more I understand my feelings, it will get better eventually,” you sniff and gasp out of air, “but I still wish that I didn’t have to rely on time. I wish that I didn’t have to delve in deep and go through all of this.”
His name engraved on the stone only made it harder for you to see anything, your tears blurring your surroundings and the wind only making you cry harder. You take in a shaky breath and though it was not satisfactory, you’re still thankful that it gave you a little more energy to get lost in the feeling of grief.
“I love you.” You repeat a few more times. “And I hope that someday, whenever I hear your name, only the good memories and things you taught me will replay in my head.”
Your fingers reach over to the curves and lines of his name and you smile remembering how his mother included you in the font and general typography, knowing how much the relationship that you both shared has always been a healthy one for both ends. You continue to run over the engraving more, moving your hand back and forth. You continue to blurt out your last few moments of the day along with your plans for the next twenty-four hours before you would rant to him again.
But like you said, time will eventually come and make it all better and currently, the heaviness in your chest is more bearable now. You jump up to your more stable feet, eyes on the flowers that cover the front side of the base. Slowly, you laid the new one between the ones from before. You stare at how it finds its place so easily despite being only introduced a few seconds ago, and you nod at how it may not be you anytime soon.
As you spare a final glance at the fresh flower on top of the one that you just gifted him yesterday, you note the peace that it’s finally been given, still and no longer twirling and swirling in the circle that you have made for it.
When you walk away, the flower looks at how you drag your feet across the soil, and the yesterday flower whispers, “They're still the same as yesterday.” A message that has continued and passed on from the very first one that you laid in hopes of Jaemin knowing that he’s never forgotten.
“I see.” A petal of yesterday falls. “I’ll take care of them now.”
