"Seize the day!"

At the sound of the yell, Lee Jeno startles from his place in his own arms, rubbing his eyes as he curses at Zhong Chenle in his mind. "What the fuck are you yelling for?" He remarks quickly, only earning a snort from the Chinese.

"I'm yelling because I can, why are you trying to nap?"

Lee Jeno continues his glaring frenzy, but it's completely useless to Chenle, who immediately turns to Mark. "Ignoring him, good morning Markie!"

Donghyuck provides his very own fake vomiting at the sound of the nickname, but Chenle doesn't care, running up the eldest and wrapping his arms around him. "Good morning? What is all this for?"

"What do you mean? I'm not allowed to hug you now?"

"You only suck up to Mark when you want something".

Chenle gasps, offended by the words from Jeno, who is still glaring at him after the loud shout which pierced through his ears a few minutes earlier. "Not true!"

"That is true!"

"Did you guys hear?" Na Jaemin immediately interrupts, startling Renjun as he comes out of nowhere. "Were having new recruits this semester!"

"You mean students?" Jisung's eyebrows furrow.

"That's what I said!"

"No you said recruits" Renjun turns to the boy whose chin is placed on his shoulder. "You're talking like we're some sort of military school".

"Why do we have students transferring right as the second semester is beginning?" Donghyuck turns to Mark as he asks the question, as if the older will have any kind of answer ready for him. "That's weird right?"

Mark shrugs, truly not knowing what kind of answer he can give the younger that will satisfy him. "Maybe this was their only options, they could be foreigners".

"Actually only a few of them are! Apparently they're all coming from a place in Taiwan, they had an incident at their last university".

Renjun gives Jaemin a weird look, the second one he's shared with him this morning. "How do you know all of this? Are you a stalker or something?"

Jaemin hums, removing his head from the Huang's shoulder and patting it instead. "I bribed the principal and some students into telling me things, you know they can never resist my charms!"

"What charms? You probably threatened to kick their asses or something.."

"What was that Lee Donghyuck?"

Donghyuck instantly sports a wide smile, feigning innocence as he stares at the now annoyed Na. "Nothing! You must be hearing things!"

"Oh am I hearing things? Or are you just a little pu—"

"Okay okay!" Mark is quick to intervene, clearing his throat. "No need to fight, save it for when school picks back up, I need my last days of winter break to be peaceful".

"Peaceful? With Jaemin around?"

"What is that supposed to mean!?"

Mark allows for Jeno and Jaemin to begin arguing, it won't ever go any further with them anyway. He grabs his jacket and puts it on, taking in a deep breath. "Where are you going?"

Upon hearing Chenle's question, Mark hums, beginning to button up his jacket. "Grocery store, I need eggs".

"You're going without us!?"

"You guys aren't supposed to follow me".

Mark sighs in his head as he hears his friends start shuffling around, their mutters becoming more and more distant as he makes his way out of the door. Of course they're gonna follow him, because they always do.

Mark allows for himself to sigh. He told them not to follow him, because they weren't supposed to, but his friends are like clingy puppies, they're going to follow him everywhere no matter what. All he wanted were eggs, eggs to put in his fridge so that he doesn't have to go to the grocery store after school picks up again.

But the rest of his friends, they're here to be idiots it seems. They're doing everything but looking for the stuff they supposedly came here to get, and all Mark can do is sigh, pretending he has no idea who they are while they argue about 2% milk (seriously? 2% milk? they have to be bored at this point).

He whistles as he looks away from his six other companions, who are all beginning to shout about whatever, he's tuned out their voices. He tries not to make eye contact with the exhausted cashier, because he doesn't want to make the guys day worse. He takes in a deep breath and slowly walks away from his friends, they don't notice anyway, much too amped up in their argument.

Mark's eyes scan the store, he shoves his hands in his pockets and continues strolling, the little fights of his friends becoming nothing but short murmurs in his ears.

He doesn't exactly know where he's going to go in this grocery store, but he keeps walking, just trying to get away from his friends for a while. The silence is a little haunting, but he doesn't really mind it, the shouts of his friends had been piercing his ears for these past few hours.

"That's a bunch of bullshi— ow!"

Mark doesn't watch where he's going, and he runs right into a guy, their heads hitting against each other as it does. He winces, rubbing his forehead as he blinks. "Oh my god I'm so sorry I wasn't watching where I was going".

Mystery boy (who is gorgeous by the way, Mark just has to note that immediately) blinks, but he doesn't seem to mind, just waving off Mark's apology. "It's alright I wasn't looking where I was going, are you alright?"

No Mark is not alright, because there's this pretty boy standing in front of him and his brain is currently malfunctioning. He tries to get his words out correctly, somehow stuttering over them, which makes him want to dig a hole, lay in it, and die there forever. "Yeah I am I just— I'm sorry, for bumping into you, that is".

Pretty boy laughs, Mark just can't determine if he's laughing at him or at something else. "It's fine, you're so apologetic, I'm okay".

"You sure?"

"I'm sure" Pretty boy laughs again, waving off Mark's words with a dismissing hand. Mark suddenly gets hit with realization, cause he quickly clears his throat and shakes his head. "Um— Mark, Mark Lee".

The boy smiles at the sound of his greeting, humming at his name, as if studying it or something. He seems to think for a moment, as if contemplating on if he should actually tell Mark his name, but he sighs anyway. "Siwon".

"Siwon?"

"Yeah".

"Nice name" Mark blurts, not knowing exactly why he decides to say that. He wants the conversation to keep going, this moment ending too fast is something he's trying to avoid, for some reason. When he sees Siwon laugh, he suddenly feels the need to speak up again. "Really! Nice name!"

"Thank you" Siwon doesn't stop letting out ting chuckles, clearly entertianed by the direction this conversation is going. "It means cool".

"That's.. cool!"

Siwon chuckles again, very much humored by this random pretty guy he just happened to encounter in a random grocery store. For the first time since becoming an agent, Jo Siwon has found himself distracted, just the thought entering his brain is enough to make him blink in disbelief.

What the fuck?

"Thanks, uh— well, I kind of have to get back to, you know.. grocery shopping".

Mark's eyes widen, and he's quick to sputter out another response. "Oh right! Yeah I didn't mean to hold you up or anything that was never my intention—"

"It's fine, Mark! No need to worry much about it! I'll see you around!"

And as Mark watches Siwon walk off, dumbfounded, the words truly settle into the air. What did he mean by that? I'll see you around? Mark allows for the confusion to consume him, completely puzzled by the interaction he just had with a pretty stranger in the grocery store.

Mark has no idea why, but he's hoping those words are true.

on a seemingly regular may day, XUWICHA RATTANAKOSIN was born an only child in surat thani, thailand, his father a police officer and his mother a nurse practitioner. life was as normal as it could be, he found interest in most things, science, music, the origins of the universe, flowers, and, most confusing of all, education. he was often interested in the one thing that most kids would find distasteful, school. XUWICHA spent hours reading, he could and would read anything, books about even the strangest topics were enough to keep him hooked, it didn't take much to entertain him, he could truly read anything and be happy for hours on end.

education was always the most important growing up, he was an exceptional student. he often prided himself on his smarts, heck his name quite literally means "education", what else did he have going for him but academics? dad and mom never really cared about what direction he wanted to take with his life, just stated that he should do something that makes him happy, not them happy, but even with that, it'd be long before he even tried to consider what he wanted to do as anything important. the way his life was going to go seemed simple enough, he'd graduate from high school, go to college outside of his hometown, get a medical degree and work in a hospital until he died at the age of eighty while lonely and stuck in his own head.

things did not go as planned.. well, not because of anything bad, but because he decided to take a risk. it was in december of 2010 that XUWICHA became an exchange student, an opportunity which would be given to him from a stroke of luck he can't believe he actually had. it was either south korea or australia, and because he was afraid of leaving the continent, he chose the place much closer (closer is a little bit of an exaggeration) to home. so, at 14 years old, with nothing but a slightly advanced vocabulary and basic knowledge on the korean language, XUWICHA moved to south korea to start high school. it was all just supposed to be for education and nothing else, nothing else.

it wasn't until mid–2011 that things took a strange turn, because XUWICHA would be approached by an SM scout, who seemed interested in what he had to offer musically. he was.. confused to say the least, up until then, music had been nothing more than a hobby, a hobby he only entertained at two in the morning on soundcloud when he'd upload little snippets of stupid rap verses he created in his own time, music was never supposed to be a career, he was studying to become some sort of medical professional, so he had no idea why he should've taken an opportunity for a musical career. still, he took the business card and thought deeply about it as he stayed awake composing lackluster tracks on his old chromebook.

XUWICHA would audition for SM ENTERTAINMENT with the song "lucifer" by his senior group, shinee, and much to his own surprise, he passed. he doesn't explain much of his trainee days, often keeping most of it vague, but alluding to it not being as nice as he tried to make it seem, though he had contagious smiles in his SM ROOKIES videos, behind the scenes, it was much more difficult than he wanted to let people know. it seems he only lets people know the inner workings of his trainee days after a few drinks, but he has no intention on letting everyone outside of the group on the truth.

the newly selected 15 year old somehow managed to balance school and training just fine, he even seemed to be flawless at it, showing no sign of struggle at school and no sign of struggle during monthly evaluation. though he continued to create lackluster music on his old computer, he kept it much more on the down low this time, with only certain members knowing about the songs he composed in the walls of their tiny dorm rooms. XUWICHA graduated from high school still stuck in the SM ENTERTAINMENT building, and it was then he was beginning to lose hope, he seemed to have no future in the company, so when he started college in the following months, he prepared to leave the company soon.

but he was persuaded to stay by TAEYONG and MARK, who were convincing enough that he was able to find enough confidence to stay in the company up until his eventual debut with the first NCT U lineup in april of 2016. immediately after the 7th sense, XUWICHA was tossed away by SM and forgotten in the basement for the next two years.. no seriously! he basically disappeared, he was in one song and then pretty much never seen again. he almost left the group as a whole in 2017, stating that he felt like he had "nothing going for him", and the company basically didn't care at all. he then reappeared in 2018 after what seemed like years for the groups first studio album, and then was announced as a member of the groups newest subunit in may of 2018, a good month before he graduated from university and got his bachelor's.

now, XUWICHA is so ready to rip up that contract and flip off all of his shitty dance teachers, but he doesn't want to compromise his role as a member in the group. he feels a certain responsibility for each of them, he was chosen as leader for a reason, so he keeps his mouth shut mostly for now. the members are way too important for him to slip up, he cares a lot about them, even if SM doesn't.

it was a surprisingly warm christmas eve when MAKANI KALEO SEO was born as the eldest of two in honolulu, hawaii, usa. he was (sadly) not a cheery child, crying and whining at pretty much every chance he got. up until he was five, he never stopped making any noise, which is ironic considering how reserved he is now. dad and mom seemed to be annoyed by his existence, though they never clearly commented on it, he could always tell they didn't really like him, they treated him as more of a roommate than their own child, which led for him to having to grow up much faster than he would've preferred. he became much more reserved, and didn't even enjoy interacting with the fellow kids his age.

he was only really given two options, his dad a vocal coach and his mother a diving instructor, be an athlete or be a musician, both somewhat promising career paths that would ensure he wouldn't end up homeless in the future. MAKANI spent most of his weekends either performing at talent shows across his hometown, or attending swimming competitions across the state. it was clear he had two strengths, but he wasn't really sure if he was as skilled as people said he was. to him, his singing was just okay and his swimming was like how every other person swims. did he have skills that bypassed his peers? yeah, he did, but the discouraging words from dad and mom didn't help with his withering confidence.

it was in his senior year of high school that his partner at the time suggested he send one of his original songs to a talent agency, to which he immediately laughed loudly at. him? getting scouted? please, that sounded like the funniest thing in the world. still, MAKANI would test his luck, recording an original song on his guitar and sending it to about five agencies, but he didn't expect to get any answers back.

well, you know how the story goes, he got an answer from none other than SM ENTERTAINMENT, and when he told his parents about the news, they laughed in his face. he simply allowed for them to, ignoring the sympathetic look he got from his younger brother as they went on and on at how ridiculous it was that he of all people would be chosen. he just gave them a smile and got on a plane to south korea the next week. so, in january of 2016, MAKANI became an SM ENTERTAINMENT trainee.

immediately upon his entry in the company, they tried to put him on a survival show. produce 101, you might've heard of it before.. yeah, he was not having that. apparently, the company had chosen an audition song for him and everything, but he fought with everything for them to not put him on that show. he guesses because he joined a good 3 months before the first NCT U debut, they wanted to see if they could do something useful with him. he didn't care if he was jeopardizing an opportunity to debut early, he refused to be put on produce 101.

so, as he expected, he was just sort of left alone for two years as the first two NCT subunits debuted. he didn't let it bother him, as he knew the moment that three year mark came up, he would let his pride wither away and move back home so he could face his also stubborn parents. luckily for him, SM picked him up and placed him in boss, a plan he got very little insight on. shit, he really only figured out from his fellow NCT members. he then got another shock when he was placed into their newest subunit, set to debut in summer, and who was he to disagree with such an offer? he's going to deal with these idiots if not him? don't tell them he said that, though.

on a humid july afternoon, JIANG ZIXIN was born the youngest of three in geiju, yunnan province, china. a bright child since birth, he seemed to have no struggles, he thrived being the baby of the family and he almost acquired brain damage pretty much every day, but that wasn't his fault! the floor is just always slippery and he always just happens to fall on his face! is it really his fault that he constantly has energy? well, yes.. but he likes to be stubborn and pretend that he isn't tripping and falling all the time. he reveled in being spoiled endlessly and learning just how to play pretty much every sport he could.

life basically moved at 2x speed for ZIXIN, by the time he was seven years old, he was spotted on tv. yeah, before getting picked up off the street by SM, he was your good old child actor. think of him like those nick actors, he was basically the chinese amanda bynes. by the time he was ten he had his own successful sketch comedy show, the staple of comedy for all chinese children everywhere, not to mention, he had also appeared in a few movies by then, it seemed that, with all things considered, ZIXIN had a natural talent for variety, he could make anyone laugh even as a naive ten year old who did fake news broadcasts almost every week.

but while acting was one thing he succeeded at skillfully, there were also two other things, archery, and, weirdly enough.. music! though ZIXIN wouldn't become a competitive archer until he was thirteen years old, music was a whole other thing. he never really took it seriously, not until he quit acting later, he did create a silly band with his sisters, the only music they created now removed from youtube, if you search hard enough, though, you could probably find an old video of them at a school talent show somewhere on the internet. funnily enough, this is how he got discovered by SM, a scout recognized him on the streets of shanghai in mid 2015 and handed him a business card, encouraging for him to audition. ZIXIN, though knowing no korean besides the lyrics to a few EXO songs and having recently quit acting, decided to take his chances.

almost tripping while entering the building and having basic singing skills, ZIXIN auditioned for SM with the song "3.6.5" by EXO. in a shocking totally unexpected twist, he passed, much to his own surprise, he quite literally almost fell on his face right in the middle of his audition, passing it off with an awkward laugh and hopefully non threatening smile. so, at 16 years old, ZIXIN said goodbye to his parents and sisters to go to korea to join SM ENTERTAINMENT. he would become somewhat of a fan favorite after being introduced as an SM ROOKIE, he was just way too interesting to not debut in NCT. he literally went through the child actor becomes an idol trope! everyone wants to see that!

unfortunately for all predebut stans, he wouldn't get to debut until three years in the company. he, like his former member, was thrown into boss, finally! predebut ZIXIN stans got justice! and then they got even more justice when he was placed into NCT SEi, then WAYV! now, you'll have pretty much no trouble finding ZIXIN content. he's the main troublemaker in the group, god save his group leaders, they're so tired of him already.

with the ground covered by a thick layer of snow and love in the air, FUKUSHIMA HIKARI was born in iwaki, fukushima, japan on, and i quote, the most romantic day of the year. he was born the eldest of three children, and was, much to his own dismay, not planned. dad and mom weren't very nice growing up, often yelling more than they did gently explain things. according to them, they were just preparing him for the real world by subjecting him to what they called "tough love", he thought things would get better as YUTO and HONAMI grew up, but they unfortunately just got worse. once his parents had two more unplanned kids, he basically became their primary caregiver, even with him only being one and two years older than his siblings.

because of his parents lack of interest in his life, he got used to not telling anyone what was going on in his life. to cope with dad and moms yelling and the mean words from kids at school, HIKARI developed an interest in dance. really any style of dance caught his eye, his obsession beginning after seeing the choreography for "love like oxygen" by shinee be performed on tv (a dance which was choreographed by one of his biggest idols ever, RINO NAKASONE). any style of dance he could execute in the slightest, he would, but he wasn't keen on telling anyone about his new.. hobby, he just kept it to himself, no one would care enough to listen to him talk about it anyway.

it wasn't until a day in may of 2012 where, as he was coming home from after school activities, he passed by a building where global auditions were being held, auditions for a company called SM ENTERTAINMENT. he would stand in front of the building and think for what seemed like years before stepping in with a little semblance of confidence he got pretty much out of nowhere. at 12 years old, he awkwardly presented himself to the judges with a toothy grin and auditioned with an original dance he had choreographed the week prior. it was nothing exceptional, pretty decent for a boy his age, but it was impressive enough that he was given a business card and advised to visit the SM building in korea.

and he stared at the business card for hours, then those hours became days, then those days became weeks. he read the fine print over and over again until it made absolutely no sense in his brain, stomach flipping and anxieties heightened as he tried to figure out how to bring it up to his parents. heck, he didn't even tell his siblings about anything, much to afraid of them laughing at him in the process of him trying to get through the sentence. when he finally did get the confidence to bring it up, over dinner that is, the interaction ended in yells and tears running down his cheeks. his father accused him of "trying to be better than them", and that his idol fantasies would never get anywhere because who would want someone like him as an idol?

while HIKARI felt his remaining confidence get crushed, he knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, and he couldn't just waste it because of his dads mean words. so, with nothing but $12 to his name and an above average dancing ability for a boy his age, HIKARI bid goodbye to his still young siblings and gave his mother a hug (one of the only hugs ever shared between them), then got on a plane to korea. he entered the SM ENTERTAINMENT building with the same amount of awkwardness he did when he auditioned, stuttering through the little korean he knew and with that obstinate smile he would learn to get rid of. he was, to his own surprise, accepted by his peers, older and younger, and for once, he felt as if he fit in somewhere.

the four years in SM were all.. wishy washy for HIKARI, he doesn't talk much about them, not in detail anyway, and when he does talk about them, it seems to be less and less cheerful each time. he spent the time where he wasn't being yelled at by his dance teachers or struggling with his schoolwork on his piano, singing songs in japanese most of his roommates didn't understand. he didn't mind being on the sidelines, shit, he wouldn't have minded debuting late, he was just glad he was even being given a chance. days at hanlim were long and days at SM were even longer, but HIKARI stuck around because what else did he have going for him? yeah he was smiling in the all SM ROOKIES promotional videos, but after those cameras turned off, the happy front he put on fell immediately.

so, HIKARI debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT DREAM, barely confident in his korean skills and as quiet as he is now. he was much more confident onstage than he was in any promotional material, and paired with his usual reserved nature, he often became the target of terrible rumors, because he'd never respond, he only did respond once when they began targeting his siblings. his eventual debut as an NCT SEi member would come as a surprise to people, even as a surprise to him, but he doesn't wish he was anywhere else, he loves all of them, even if he doesn't say it with his own mouth on most occasions.

right as march was coming to a close, HEO MINJAE, (born HEO SEHUN) was born the second child and only boy in incheon, south korea. he grew up with no one else but his father and MIRAE around, as his mother had left when he was much too young to even remember what she looked like. despite the circumstances which struck his family, MINJAE was a happy child growing up, even with how he disliked his name. his reason for having a distaste against his birth name had to do with his maternal grandfather, he wanted no connection to his mothers side of the family, even as a child who was still clueless to what they put his father through, this was what sprung his common childhood nickname, "min", a nickname which would be the catalyst for his new name, but that would come years later.

as a child, if he wasn't at school boring himself with the numbers on paper that seemed to do nothing for him, he was at the theater his father coordinated, watching the performances put on by the many cast members. his interest in performing would ignite in those moments, but his interest in becoming an idol would ignite after he watched 2pm perform their famous single "again&again" with his older sister in the living room. becoming an idol seemed like a dream that was so out of reach, but that didn't mean he was suddenly hopeless, he would often find himself up late on school nights giggling with MIRAE about one of them possibly ending up in an idol group one day.

it was in 2008 where things finally got better for his father. he met a nice woman, who, in MINJAE's own words, became the mother he never had in life. she became one of his other support pillars, it was nice to have another adult in life to talk to about things, and after SUNHEE was born in 2012 (he got to choose her name, he always gets so giddy when talking about it), things got better for them. dad was no longer sad, he could tell, and even though his little sister was a spitting baby who couldn't speak or even walk properly, she still made MINJAE happy. the first time he ever even saw SM was in 2012 when he went shopping with his mother and MIRAE, he saw that auditions were being held, but he couldn't garner enough confidence to ask his mother if he could audition, even though his older sister could see how much he wanted to audition.

MIRAE would continue to try and encourage the then very anxious MINJAE to audition, saying that he never knew what could happen, but the younger merely shook his head, saying that being an idol was nothing more than a fantasy he fractured as a child, but that sentiment didn't stay the same for long, not until his mother sat him down and placed a train ticket in front of him, urging for him to go audition and take his chances. while he wanted to disagree, he knew that this chance would only come once. so, he nodded at his mother and took the almost two hour train ride to seoul, where he ended up in front of none other than SM ENTERTAINMENT. thirteen years old and with nothing but a collection of 2pm songs up his sleeve, he walked into the building and auditioned with the song "take off" by the group.

when learning he passed, he had to resist the urge to cheer in front of all of the judges, instead clearing his throat and smiling widely as he let out many well needed "thank you's". when he shared the news with his family, he got many "i told you so's" from MIRAE, but his eye rolls were all affectionate. he immediately became a member of SM ROOKIES, his natural love of performing and his surprising acting ability made him a fan favorite amongst viewers of the korean mickey mouse club. he was practically the main character in most videos, annoying MARK and getting up to trouble with HAECHAN and JAEMIN. he quickly established himself as the fun friend, the funny one who says anything that comes to his mind and chews ice with absolutely no issue.

after three long years of training, MINJAE made his debut as an original member of NCT 127 in july of 2016, though he was never supposed to be apart of the original lineup, he got added in last minute in a "surprise decision". he didn't decide to question it, though, happy he was actually able to perform onstage officially and also wreck havoc in his older members' lives (save JAEHYUN from MINJAE seriously). he'd promote as a member of the group for two years, and when their two year anniversary was rolling around, he was already a confirmed member of NCT SEi, it was also by that time that he finally legally changed his name! (finally, he was officially MINJAE). nothings really changed since his debut in the two units, he's still chewing ice and wrecking havoc upon his older members, MAKANI is seriously going to kill him one day.

at the beginning of the year, right as the first week of january was ending, KANG SEOJUN was born exactly 25 minutes and 47 seconds after his sister, KANG SEORIN in busan, south korea. yes, he's a twin, a twin they didn't even realize was a male until he was finally born. from the get go, there was something wrong, he wasn't crying, he was just.. there, he wasn't okay. he spent almost all of 2002 in the hospital, riddled with issues surrounding the nature of his birth, issues which resulted in him having to get surgery, even as just an infant. the surgery definitely left a scar, a literal one across his stomach, one he still doesn't enjoy thinking about today, but he was fine, he was alive, he didn't die, but that didn't seem to be enough to impress his parents, or even get them to care about him much.

from the moment he could comprehend his own existence, SEOJUN could clearly see that SEORIN was the favorite. dad and mom took her achievements much more seriously, her events were much more important, she was much more important than him. yeah his parents provided him with a roof over his head, food to eat, clothes, an education, etc, but they didn't care much about him, they were quite literally creating a divide between their twin children, a divide that would exist up until the two could get over their differences later in their lives. growing up, SEOJUN felt alienated at home, he was barely ever acknowledged, heck, even on his own birthday, a birthday he literally shares with SEORIN, the most he got was a lackluster gift and pat on the back. he wasn't that much of a priority to them it seemed.

because of the lack of attention at home, SEOJUN would spend a lot of time, not at home, dad and mom didn't care much about what he was doing anyway. he spent a lot of time at school, but not doing schoolwork, no, he hated schoolwork, the numbers burned into his brain and made his head spin, he spent a lot of his time with other kids his age doing interesting extracurriculars. he would spend hours on hours each day, at school doing things not even related to school. he would learn things he never thought he'd be into, like how to play soccer, crochet, play two of his favorite instruments in the world (the guitar and drums), and, the most important of all, dance.

dance became somewhat of a coping mechanism for SEOJUN. if he was upset? he'd just try to learn a new choreography, if he felt frustrated in some way shape or form? he'd channel all of that into a new dance style he found interest in. he became apart of a dance team at school, and because he was born early in the year, he became used to leading the team. it was then at a dance competition at school where he caught the eye of an SM scout, who gave him a business card and said that he should try his luck at auditions. at the time, SEOJUN didn't think he'd get anywhere in the idol category, being an idol was never really a dream of his, he just liked dancing.

he left the business card on his desk and really only gave it glances when he was feeling down. it was nice to know that, even though his parents didn't really appreciate the skills he displayed, a scout did enough that she thought he'd be good enough to audition for a company as big as SM. he was never supposed to audition, but SEORIN persuaded him to, a reassuring hand on his shoulder and nothing but encouragement aiding him. despite the fact that any idol dreams seemed to be far out of the question for SEOJUN, he decided to take his twins words seriously, buying a train ticket with pocket change he'd earned from a small job and taking the whole four hours train ride to seoul, completely anxious the whole entire time. when SEOJUN finally did audition, the only thing accompanying him being his little pride and above average dance moves, he almost wanted to jump out of the window at that very moment, but he persisted, and much to his surprise, he passed.

it wasn't all that easy, though, he still had to tell his parents, which he did while fidgeting with his fingers and fighting back tears because of how they stared at him the whole time. maybe it was a bad idea, because he ended up getting yelled at for "abandoning the people who love him the most". hypocritical words, really, but, as always, they didn't really care about anything having to do with him, in his own father's words; "if you want to go so bad than go, we won't come looking for you anyway", and though SEORIN tried to console him, that was all SEOJUN had to hear. with tear stains on his cheeks and a fake smile on his face, he joined SM ENTERTAINMENT in august of 2013.

if it wasn't obvious enough, SEOJUN basically grew up in SM, though being an idol was never really what he dreamed of, it was still something to get excited about. eleven year old SEOJUN was the highlight of all the SM ROOKIES promotional videos. just like his previous member, he became a fan favorite because of his natural talent for variety, and because he was never not energetic. you could not find a video of SEOJUN where he wasn't smiling and jumping around, constantly tapping his older trainees and talking to anyone who would listen. he would often use this energetic persona to mask the issues he had with dad and mom back at home, issues no one really knows about unless he talks about them, he was, and still is, very private, pretending everything was okay by plastering a smile on his face and giggling loudly.

the three years in SM are years SEOJUN would rather pretend didn't exist, sometimes he wishes he didn't spend most of his teen years in the company, but he doesn't confide in that to anyone. he was only fourteen years old when he made his eventual debut in NCT DREAM, but nothing changed, SEOJUN was still the same energetic, lively, overly enthusiastic person he was in all of those predebut videos, he had issues, yeah, but he wasn't keen on telling anyone about those issues. as long as he presented himself as happy, no one would question if was actually happy or not. the first two years as a member of NCT DREAM were good, the group basically felt like his family, and though he was in the first final lineup for NCT SEi, he didn't end up debuting with them in july, a decision which would leave a horrible mark on his confidence. he didn't even want to rejoin the group, 2018 was beginning to become a terrible year, it wasn't until a talk with HIKARI that he truly considered ever coming back, and an even longer talk with management at SM, who seemed to not care about his future with the group.

SEOJUN debuted with NCT SEi in november of 2018, and though he didn't debut with them originally, he still is considered an original member, because, he is an original member of the group. he is very happy about his role in the group, and glad that he did end up coming back as a member. though SEOJUN often feels like he still has a sense of responsibility, with JISUNG being youngest of dream, in NCT SEi, he feels he can let loose a bit, as he is the maknae of the group.

질문⠀and finally.. is kihyun close with wayv at all?

정답⠀while it’s still not exactly a home away from home, when KIHYUN’s with WAYV he feels just as able to let loose and let himself have the fun he wants as when he's with 127. they might not the very first place he’d turn if he was in trouble, or needed help (although he has gone to them for it a few times in the past), but they are one of the first people on his mind for when he feels like going for a night out to let loose, or to mess around in the studio for a few hours and see what beats they can pull out of thin air, sampling any and everything they can find. if DREAM are KIHYUN’s unbreakable bonds, and 127 are the pillars of support he never knew he needed, then WAYV are sort of a mix of both, as well as KIHYUN’s.. well, enablers, in a way.

錕 & 기현⠀───⠀KIKUN

kihyun attached himself to kun the second they met and refused to let go—figuratively, of course (although he has done it literally a few times in the past, and will likely do it again). he felt a similar sort of instant connection as he had with johnny, or niko, or mark. he admired and looked up to his vocal ability as much as he did taeil’s, but for some reason felt a little more comfortable to let loose around him, to mess around and make jokes and be as clingy as he liked without worrying if he was being annoying. kun was just someone who made him feel comfortable instantly, an easy air around him that then-trainee kihyun needed every once in a while to let all his worries about debuting or not debuting and all his shortcomings during the various lessons they were put through get to him too much. when he was with kun they could just talk music, or play card games, or on occasion the older vocalist would give him a mini magic show and then attempt to teach him some tricks afterwards. there was a little bit of a struggle with the language barrier, as there was with most of the WAYV members, but they made do most of the time, finding they enjoyed spending time with another even if they didn’t full understand everything the other was saying all of the time.

the younger vocalist considers himself one of kun’s biggest fans, point blank. everything he does (and did, back in the day and over the years) is met with the upmost support from him, both the things he’s allowed to share with the public & the projects he keeps to himself. if there was one member to rival the amount of personal merch and photocards he owns of the DREAM members, it would undoubtedly be kun. he just thinks he’s so.. cool. talented in everything he does, and making it look easy in the process. there isn’t a singular thing he’s been featured in that kihyun hasn't reposted or talked about on social media in one form or another, not one piece of group content where he hasn’t done a running jump at the WAYV leader and clung to his arm for the next five minutes at the very least. kun shares the same sentiment with kihyun, even if it’s not to the same physical extent. he’s supportive in everything the younger does, and is always ready to help with anything he may need if he asks.

their friendship is one that’s mostly stayed the same over the years-growing stronger, if anything. kun is one of the top people on his list he’ll call if he needs a second opinion, if he wants a little help, or if he just wants someone to get a meal with. it’s always easy when they’re with one another, never having an uncomfortable or awkward moment between them even if they’re just sharing silence. they’re a relatively rare duo to see on camera during official content, and are usually more brought up or seen (and occasionally featured, on live) on their own personal feeds. they’re another pair that have expressed wanting to work with one another officially in the future—and have already played around with some unofficial things together in their free time too.

เตนล์ & 기현⠀───⠀TENKI

ten was interested kihyun from their very first meeting, both in wanting to get to know him and also in seeing if there was any way he could be of help with his dancing. and while he wasn’t a mentor as such, kihyun thinks he owes a lot to ten for helping him in their trainee days—both by correcting him on the smaller errors that their teachers didn’t pick up on, and also for never making him feel bad about his mistakes, always reassuring him that he himself sometimes slipped up too. dance was the main thing they bonded over, slowly growing closer as ten did his best to support kihyun wherever he could & kihyun attempting to return the favour by sneaking the older dancer a few extra snacks from when he snuck out, or reciprocating every bit of affection he received tenfold. while they slowly began to not see each other as much as it grew closer and closer to the first official NCT debut, they still tried to keep in touch & contact each other whenever they could, and kihyun made sure to cheer him (and the other four, of course) on the hardest he could.

even after it had all calmed down after the release of THE 7TH SENSE, they didn’t get too much time to go back to hanging out, as not long afterwards kihyun was preparing for his own debut in DREAM. he was caught up completely in focusing on being the best he could be, and again their contact was scarce—save for the few phone calls they shared, and the sparing evenings where ten would catch him staying in the practice room long after all the others had left, and run through the CHEWING GUM choreography with him a few times before making him go get some rest. it took a while, but when everything had really slowed down a little, they made sure to go out for a long meal and catch-up all in one, taking a detour to a noraebang on the way back to sing their lungs out and collapse into helpless laughter over things that weren’t really all that funny together like they’d been wanting to for a while.

as much as he looks up to him, kihyun doesn’t really feel the age gap between him and ten. the older dancer treats him exactly like he treats kun, or johnny, or taeyong, and kihyun reciprocates in kind. banter and conversation and jokes come as easy as breathing between them, but also whenever one of them needs help the carefree mood between them can just as easily be dropped in place of a more serious one, where they try their best to offer help or support in any way they can. whenever they’re see each other for group content they’re sure to be seen stuck to each other’s sides at least once, deep in conversation about a new routine, or when they should next get dinner together, or whatever other odd topics come to mind that they can spin a conversation out of. they’ve always been close, and will continue to be far into the future.

昀昀 & 기현⠀───⠀WINKI

kihyun is jokingly referred to by many as one of the only members winwin can stand. while he does still treat the older dancer with as much affection as he does his other hyungs, he’s a little more toned-down about it—not as over-the-top as some of the other members, but at the same time no less genuine. they share a bond much like kihyun & yuta: quiet and not always noticed, but still very much there. they got close around the same time as him and yuta as well—it was nearing the end of the EMPATHY era, and kihyun walked into a practice room winwin was occupying, witnessed him dancing, and almost immediately afterward (despite the fact he’d barely held a full conversation with him prior to that evening, just sticking to polite greetings when they saw each other) fell all over him asking to be taught how to do what he did. winwin, a little overwhelmed, finally managed to ask for kihyun to stop trying to jump on his shoulders for just a minute, and then maybe they’d talk.

winwin didn’t feel like he was much of a help to kihyun, but the younger thought the complete opposite. even if all he did was correct him on a small footwork error, kihyun practically fell over himself in thanks every time. he said on more than one occasion that he considered winwin as much as a help as he did ten, or taeil vocals-wise. whenever the two were in the same room it was guaranteed kihyun was going to ambush him at one point and ask for a whole load of new tips and tricks to implement into his own technique and help him grow. other members joked a few times that the younger DREAM member held ten & winwin to a higher regard than he did any of their actual dance teachers, to which kihyun just shrugged (and never necessarily denied any of their claims). while they didn’t hang out all that much in settings where it was just the two of them, kihyun felt like he didn’t really need to sit down and have a one-on-one meal with winwin in order to truly get to know him. he felt like he was sort of learning more and more about through dance (even if chenle said that made no sense).

as of the most recent years, their bond has generally remained the same (although they have shared a few meals together since that time). on the off chance he’s feeling a little more lively when they see each other then kihyun will be all over the older dancer like he was the first time they met, calling him ‘boss’ and ‘teacher’ and firing things off a mile a minute about new routines and tips and covers and anything else he could think of, all while winwin stands there and just tries not to let it knock him off of his feet. most of the time he’s tempered down, though, simply greeting winwin with a hug and quietly catching up instead of going full-out. he’s always in the older dancer’s comments, always supporting him in any of his solo endeavours, and altogether the friendship they share is a sweet one.

肖俊 & 기현⠀───⠀XIAOHYUN

the pair of them met at slightly an awkward time. dejun was new to the company as a whole, a complete stranger to most and feeling a little like an outsider thrown in the middle of a tangled web full of people who’d already known each other for years, already developed connections & relationships and were completely comfortable with one another, and kihyun was seventeen and just starting to feel restless in himself, his usually ever-cheerful mood just beginning to fray around the edges. needless to say, their first introduction consisted of a stilted ‘hello’ and an exchange of their names between them, and the kihyun was turning around and leaving and dejun was left to feel all the more awkward. they barely talked after that, swapping little more than quick nods or looks of acknowledgement if they passed each other in corridors or ended up sharing the same practice rooms, and it went on to stay that way for a good year as kihyun fell all the lower down into the hole he was digging for himself, and dejun got caught up in everything he needed to do for WAYV’s official debut.

the way they only really officially got to know each other properly wasn’t exactly in the best of situations, either. it was early 2020, a month or so after the release of RELOAD, and after a night out kihyun didn’t exactly feel like he could face his fellow DREAM members, and so asked if he could crash at the WAYV dorm instead. and dejun really didn’t mean to run into his sort-of dongsaeng in their kitchen at an unearthly hour in the morning while the younger was half-asleep and half-hysterical, smelling slightly of cigarettes and soju, but that was just how things turned out to be. dejun kept him company until kun got back from whatever convenience store he’d booked it to, and in the meantime kihyun just sort of.. let everything spill, a little too drunk to realise fully what he was doing. by the time the leader had made it back he walked into the dorm kitchen and found a now fully-asleep kihyun hunched over the countertop while dejun walked paces up and down the tile ranting and raving about how the people the younger dancer was hanging around with were really no good, none the wiser as to how his only listener was stifling his snores in the fabric of his hoodie.

kihyun was a little mortified the next morning, when he woke up and it all (mostly) came back to him, but decided to take it on the chin and use it as a chance to try and actually make friends with the older vocalist. they had another long talk that day, got to know each other a little better, and even if the younger made no promises as to breaking things off with the crowd he’d found himself in amongst, he did promise that he’d try and look after himself a little better. from that day onward they were far closer, kihyun always making sure to give dejun a visit whenever he was over at the WAYV dorms and making sure to keep in contact over the phone as well. they might not seem it on-camera, seeing as the more heartfelt conversations they share they usually prefer to have when they’re not being watched, but they really are a strong pair of friends.

亨德里 & 기현⠀───⠀HYUNDERY

debut was coming closer and closer by the time hendery first joined SM, so they didn’t have all that much time for conversation past introductions and civil greetings when they passed each other in the hallway, but kihyun definitely wanted to get know hendery better, and a couple months after everything had calmed down he made sure to approach him and ask him if he wanted to go out for a meal sometime. hendery agreed, they skipped practice one night so kihyun could show him one of his recently-discovered (and quickly rising in the ranks of his favourites) barbecue joints, and they sat down and talked about everything they could think of until the owner was shoving them out of the door so he could shut up shop, and it was so dark they could barely find their way back to the company building even with the help of the streetlights to guide the way.

their bond was something of an easy one to simply fall into after that—they’d hang out in person whenever they could and talk over the phone when they couldn’t, making hours-long conversations over the most mundane of things and never getting bored of each other. they shared inside jokes that would leave whoever else was with them more than a little bewildered when they brought them up and proceeded to burst into laughter, and easy affection that could go from quiet and comforting to intentionally irritating over-the-top hugs and aegyo-filled voices as they squished cheeks and danced around with one another. whenever kihyun’s at the wayv dorm, it’s guaranteed that he’s in hendery’s room—and vice versa, on the odd occasion the older rapper makes a visit to the dream dorms. if one of them are out and about, the other is most likely with them, if one of them posts, the other is most likely in the comments spamming compliments and teasing remarks and the like—and the list goes on, really. if one half of the pair is doing anything, then the other is sure to be around somehow.

over time their bond has only gotten stronger, brought them closer together. they’re simply.. kihyun and hendery. a package deal, even if they’re in different units. a duo much like chenle and jisung, or jeno and jaemin. it’s not a proper kihyun vlog if hendery hasn’t suddenly appeared (even if it was for as little as a couple shots, or simply kihyun thrusting his phone before the camera to show messages from the older rapper), and it definitely isn’t a piece of whole-group content if the two of them aren’t messing around together—by putting on shows of over-the-top recreations of the latest drama they’re watching, or treating all the other members present to live performances of songs either from whatever album they’re promoting or just shared favourite songs in general, or even play-flirting up a storm. their one joint goal is to try and get some sort of official duo content up and running, but for now it’s still a work-in-progress.

扬扬 & 기현⠀───⠀KIYANG

much like with hendery, yangyang became a trainee too close to DREAM’s debut for him & kihyun to get properly introduced, and so it just.. never happened. but unlike with hendery, kihyun also never got around to trying to properly get to know him, and so they just sort of stayed at the half-awkward and half-acquaintances stage for the following years. it was somewhat frustrating for the younger vocalist, because he definitely did want to get to know yangyang better, it was just that he felt that he’d left it too long to start a conversation that lasted longer than passing greetings or brief small talk, or invite him out for a meal without it sounding awkward, and so he just carried on leaving it for a later date, for when he could muster up some more courage to actually talk.

it took renjun practically dragging him by the arm in the break between filming on the RESONANCE set for them to finally strike up a proper conversation, and even then kihyun left it feeling like he’d been stilted and awkward the whole time. they were closer after that, but still not a whole lot. he wasn’t so sure if he was intimidated of yangyang, or just thought he was cool (much like his feelings towards renjun in their trainee days before he got over himself and struck up that first conversation)—or maybe just a mix of both—but what kihyun did know was that he was determined to actually strike up a proper friendship with yangyang. soon. how soon, he didn’t exactly know, and he gave jeno a harsh punch on the arm when he relayed his dilemma and the older told him he was just putting it off again because he was scared.

skip forward a few years, and kihyun is glad to say there has been some progress. they’ve talked more, and bonded over music, mostly, but also video games as well (which, admittedly, kihyun got most of his knowledge of from jeno and then pretended he’d been a gamer for years when speaking to yangyang. to this day he’s terrified of gaming alone with him, though). a meal shared between just the two of them has yet to happen, but kihyun is again determined—and it’s something of a well-known fact that when he has his mind set on something he’s unlikely to let off until he gets it done. he’s still a little miffed yangyang is something of the only member he doesn’t really feel like he knows, but that only makes him all the more fired up to make sure they get closer than close in the coming years. the unreasonable amount of joy he gets when the older replies to his messages (or sends them to him first), or likes his posts, or mentions him in a conversation where he isn’t present, is immeasurable, and the DREAM members (jeno and chenle, mostly) have fun by comparing it to a child with a crush—to which kihyun firmly denies with red ears every time.

just as those words are said, seojun snaps another photo with camera in his hands. the 02 liner looks up and blinks at na jaemin, who simply gives a teasing smile. "did i get carried away?" he asks obliviously.

"carried away taking photos of jisung maybe".

seojun gasps in offense at the statement. yeah it's true but who is donghyuck to tell him that? he narrows his eyes at his older member, readying his defense for the day. "i was not! it's not my fault he looks exceptionally pretty in every photo and that the camera kept focusing on him!"

"i think that's one of your worst excuses".

seojun's eras redden, and he frowns slightly at the laughs which sound from his fellow members. jaemin throws an arm around him, giving another teasing smile. "you two are so cute! i can't believe it! young love blossoming at it's finest!"

"what are you talking about?" renjun questions judgmentally, looking jaemin up and down.

"he's crazy".

"not as crazy as seojun is for jisu—"

"stop!" seojun whines, his face probably redder than it ever has been in his life. he uses his hands to cover his red face, and jaemin giggles in victory. "this is embarrassing.." he mutters into his own hands, trying his best not to make eye contact with any of his members.

"it's not! nothing's embarrassing about being in love!"

seojun gently pushes jaemin away from him, trying his best to ignore the older's teasings and focusing on the many photos he'd taken on the camera. of course, most of them were focused on jisung. he's pretty, okay? can you blame seojun for taking so many pictures of him?

"jisung looks so pretty here.."

"yah, chenle is in the photos too" jeno scolds playfully, nudging him in the shoulder. seojun blinks, and laughs silently.

"i know! i didn't say chenle wasn't pretty jisung is just.. i'm not explaining it to you!"

"seojun is picking favorites!"

"i am not you guys always say this—!"

as seojun was busy trying to clear his name to his older members, jisung finally turns around to see what the yelling is all about, coming across a red faced seojun whose arguing with jeno and jaemin about.. something. he laughs lightly at the sight, because seojun is trying so hard to get his point across.

"so how did the photos turn out?"

"ah! oh my god you have to stop doing that!" the maknae allows for himself to giggle at seojun's newly startled expression. "seriously, jisung".

"okay okay i'm sorry" jisung hides his giggle behind his hand, laughing even harder at the frown from the older. "ignoring that, the photos, how did they turn out?"

seojun quickly looks back down at the camera in his hands, then looks back at jisung with a smile. "they turned out nice, you looked so pretty in all of them.."

the formerly giggling jisung is quickly reduced to a blushing, stuttering mess as he tries his best to register the other's words. the two are left awkwardly staring at each other for a moment, flustered out of their mind, but seojun breaks the silence by laughing lightly. "what? why are you so silent?"

"you're so— you're so annoying" jisung mutters under his breath, arms crossed and cheeks dusted red.

seojun pokes his cheek, and the youngest pretends to be annoyed by the gesture. "and you are so cute".

"that's not fair".

"um.. yes it is! you can't argue with me, i'm older, so i'm right".

"that is also not fai— hiki tell seojun he's wrong!"

"i am not wrong! you're wrong!"

and just like that, the lovebirds begin arguing. what are they arguing about exactly? the rest of the dreamies have absolutely no idea, but they're equally as flustered as the other.

"ah, young love" jaemin muses humorously, smiling proudly at the sight of the two. renjun, again, gives him another judgmental look, nudging him lightly.

"you're acting like you raised them".

"um because i literally did? i'm the only reason they're even together!"

"that's more of a bad thing than a good thing right now.."

jaemin lets out a snicker, listening to the two youngest argue over something unintelligible as jeno rolls his eyes at their stupid shouting.

i gazed at it , unable to pass

MY ONLY TINY SNOWY NIGHT ─── with a concept stolen from a trashed boy group, NCT SEi ( 엔시티 세이, 엔시티 SEi ) is basically the black sheep unit when it comes to NCT as a whole. i mean, you have 127, the seoul unit, dream, the teenage unit (once teenage unit i guess), wayv, the chinese unit, and finally, wish, their japanese unit. so where do SEi fit into this whole puzzle piece? they seem to stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to their fellow units, with a messy lineup that had to be rearranged a good seven times and a clear lack of attention from their parent company, they really seemed to be a lost cause, even after their successful debut in july of 2018.

as said previously, the units whole concept was originally for a trashed boy group, a trashed korean-japanese boy group meant to debut under SM that never ended up following through due to a few internal conflicts between trainees. after the conflict resolved, only one trainee from that original lineup remained, and though he's kept his lips shut about the whole thing after his eventual debut in two NCT units, he's allowed for a few remarks to slip from his lips that allude to something much more horrible that went on behind the scenes, but yeah anyway! after the failure of this attempt at a group, the concept also got trashed in favor of NCT's much more interesting concept.

they were truly sort of thrown together last minute, a unit composing of 2 NCT 127 members, 2 NCT DREAM members, and 2 new guys who appeared a few times on the nct 2018 empathy album. well— originally 2 NCT DREAM members, they ended up debuting as five in july because of issues between a certain member and their other unit schedules, though they would only be five for a good three months before he eventually got added back into the group (but it seemed he had to do everything to convince SM into caring about him enough to add him back). they quickly became a questionable topic among nctzens, who were surprised and confused at the debut of a new unit, just as the members seemed to be.

though they have an amazing discography and downright talented, hilarious members, it seems that over the years, SM has given less and less attention to their "disgraced" unit. it seems the members are doing more managing of the group than their company is, and most of their music is being withheld or treated as not important. it seems that every few months SM finally remembers they exist and indeed do need to release more music, but whether your charmed by their catchy music or the members natural knack for variety, there is no doubt that NCT SEi will reign you in and keep you on the hook.

─── HIGHER THAN THE CLOUDS

⟡﹐ꊞ niko's eras (except it's a deep dive) !

⟡﹐ꊞ oh i need to take a long sigh for this.. okay! so niko's eras can be split into three categories: good, bad, and downright horrible. from the moment he debuted, bad luck seemed to follow him around like a lost puppy. with him almost breaking his bones every era, having to face the weirdest interview questions, being picked apart by korean netizens because he looked at someone the wrong way, and being the target of insanely specific rumors, things never really seemed like they were ever going niko's way. he's definitely had many good moments, moments that most nctzens enjoy reminiscing on, but those good moments are often overshadowed by his many bad and downright horrible moments, much to his own dismay.

(2016) : AN UNEXPECTED DEBUT & A BROKEN ARM !

19 YEAR OLD NIKOLAS made a surprising (as in surprising to both him and his new fandom) debut as an nct u member with the "7th sense". now, the reason this debut was surprising is because it was a last minute decision really. he had been told that his debut in the first ever nct unit would be "unlikely", so he wasn't preparing to debut in the unit, they kind of just threw him in there a month before the song was originally released. so he basically had no time to do anything, no time to write lyrics, and no time to learn lines. so, at nineteen years old, niko made his debut in the first ever nct u lineup with absolutely no lines. no really, he did a few adlibs and backing vocals, but he didn't really sing.. or rap, or do anything.

debut era niko was really like how he is now, he was quiet, reserved, and didn't talk unless he had to. he was regarded as a strange mix in the group, sm really just threw in this random australian guy with long hair in nct? opinions on niko were all very mixed, most people liked that he didn't talk much, that he was respectful, that he clearly enjoyed performing, but others weren't too nice. they felt he didn't add anything to the group, he wasn't interesting, he was too quiet, he let everyone else do the talking, he was all of these things they didn't like, he sadly wasn't a fan favorite.

the 7th sense era is one niko looks back on with furrowed eyebrows. he sometimes wishes he could've done more, especially considering how little he talked. he couldn't even bring himself to answer questions, especially the.. bad ones. a particular one he remembers is from a snickering interviewer who had just enough time to ask if he was trying to pass as a man or a woman, clearly wanting to elicit a tempered reaction from him. the only thing he responded with was a dry chuckle, leaving the question unanswered as taeyong quickly took over, changing the subject.

so, in niko's terms at least, his debut era was a good one, it had a few hiccups, but it wasn't as bad as what would come in future years.

nctzens didn't have to wait long, because a few months later in july, a now 20 YEAR OLD NIKO would go on to debut in nct 127 with "fire truck". though only 3 months after his debut in nct u, fire truck niko was much more lively, well— as lively as someone as introverted as him can be. he felt much more comfortable in showcasing his humor, and while he was still the quietest member, he definitely talked more than he did the previous era. fire truck era nikolas was running his mouth like there was no tomorrow, whether it be telling stupid jokes, almost cursing out jaehyun during the mv behind, and almost spoiling nct dream's debut right after their debut stage (he had mentioned kihyun while retelling a funny story to the camera, but he thankfully didn't say anymore, quickly getting shut up by a bruising nudge from mark).

midway through fire truck promotions, nikolas had to step out after suffering a dangerous fall and breaking his humerus. the funniest thing (niko likes to say it was funny, but the members weren't so amused) is that it happened right in the middle of a performance, niko slipped on the stage and used his elbow to cushion the blow, slamming forcefully into the metal and fracturing his ulna in the process. he didn't even realize his bone was actually broken until he complained to a manger about the pain, and by that point, his arm had already been bleeding excessively. though he tried to pass it off as not that bad, it was, and niko sat out of the rest of fire truck promotions as his arm healed.

still, even with a broken arm and having to sit out of performing for a good chunk of the year (one of his favorite things in the whole world), fire truck was a good era, he was definitely feeling better than he did during his original debut. niko remembers his debut with 127 as a fun time, even with the broken bones.

(2017) : THE MEMES, THE GIGGLES, & ILLUMINATI RUMORS ?

a (STILL) 20 YEAR OLD NIKOLAS made his eventual return with the groups second extended play, "limitless". though he couldn't move his arm much without letting out a wince of pain, he was much better off than he was in july of 2016 when his ulna almost came apart. for starters, he was becoming much more talkative, considering johnny and doyoung were now around for him to poke fun at, but especially his fellow 96 liner, because he was much too afraid of the second eldest's wrath. limitless era niko is often overlooked because, again, he didn't do much singing. he did rap, of course, but it was short and sweet, he wasn't allowed to showcase any of his talents, unfortunately.

a moment during limitless era most fans love to remember is during the mv commentary, where niko could not stop talking about doyoung the whole time. it was really during limitless era that these two became a fan favorite duo, because they were the epitome of best friends. they were bickering about stupid things backstage, onstage, during the mv commentary, during the mv behind, they were the funniest duo in the world. fans never realized how close they were because they never seemed to want to talk to each other during the 7th sense era. nikolas knew exactly how to push doyoung's buttons, and the older would do nothing but clench his fists and threaten him with punches.

limitless era ended with a bang.. literally, because right as their last stage for the era ended, niko accidentally dropped his microphone on the stage after the show winners had been announced, letting out a swear which was heard by the fellow idols standing around, who ducked their heads down to let out tiny giggles and snickers. the instance became a viral video, as niko's slippery fingers, his swearing, and the look of horror on his face was enough to get laughs out of fans everywhere, and even from people who had no idea who he was. he received many teasings and mimics of the whole situation from the members, but besides all of his fake pouts, limitless was a good era for niko.

no more than five months later, a 21 YEAR OLD NIKO would return with 127 with cherry bomb and a constantly debated involvement in lyrics. technically, cherry bomb should've been considered niko's songwriting debut, as he helped both taeyong and mark with lyrics on the title track, but he isn't credited as a lyricist on the albums liner notes. now, niko has never really addressed this situation, the only reason anyone even knew he helped with the lyrics of cherry bomb was because the members brought it up one time during a vlive in late 2017, but it is often debated by nctzens, one side of the fandom thinking niko deserved lyrical credits because he helped in writing the lyrics and another side of the fandom saying that he shouldn't have received lyrical credits because his fellow rappers did most of the work.

cherry bomb is undeniably one of niko's best eras, and it's an era he often looks back on with fondness. his humor truly shined this era, as he made sure to solidify himself as one of the funniest nct members. though niko was quiet, he was hilarious. some of his most iconic moments ever stem from cherry bomb era, whether it was his many sarcastic comments during nct life in osaka, or him stating he's never thought about his ideal type in a woman, it was clear that niko had a natural knack for variety.

now onto the groups first win, oh niko looked so confused, probably because he couldn't hear anything anyone was saying. when the confetti went off, he was much too busy trying to get the ringing out of his ears to even realize the group had won a music show award. he only saw taeyong begin tearing up and panicked because he thought something was wrong, but then, while hiding his giggles behind his hand, taeil explained that they had gotten their first win. it was a hilarious moment that's always ended up in niko compilations on youtube.

towards the end of cherry bomb era came the rise of, hilariously enough, conspiracy theories. something about niko really spurred these kpop conspiracy theorists, because they all seemed to come to a unanimous agreement that he was secretly an illuminati member. the rumors were ridiculous, clearly, but niko had no idea these rumors existed until johnny brought it up to him after they finished one of their stages, literally dying laughing as he watched the younger's face form into one of shock, but he did what seemed funniest at the time, fueled the rumors, he did that triangle hand sign thing, mimicking that popular jay z photo, he found it hilarious how rumors of it spread so quickly, and he's never said anything public about it.

cherry bomb was a good era, arguably niko's best era.

(2018) : AN OFFICIAL SONGWRITING DEBUT & A FEW SLIPUPS !

having graduated from college and suddenly full of inspiration, 22 YEAR OLD NIKOLAS made his (this time actually credited) songwriting debut on regular-irregular with the song knock on, an incredibly underrated song that deserves to be performed live at least ONCE. anyway, it was clear that regular was a song niko loved performing, because he was always giggling during the stages and jumping up and down during dance practice, he was enjoying every second of regular promotions.

regular not only marked niko's (officially credited) songwriting debut, but it marked a true vocalist debut. previously, niko hadn't sang much in any of the groups previous songs, rapping was always sort of his forte, but when he wrote knock on, he was finally allowed singing parts. of course he didn't sing much, but he absolutely loved it, if you didn't know already, he really likes having singing parts in songs, even if they're minuscule.

regular marked the beginning of niko.. sort of opening up to fans. he never really said any facts about himself in all the other eras, just presented himself as how he always was, but it was really regular era where he actually started sharing facts about himself. a lot of facts about niko weren't even shared on his own accord, the members made him say a bunch of stuff about himself during a live because he spent half of it sat silent in the corner. nikolas would (though begrudgingly) disclose never heard before facts about himself to nctzens, and even some never heard before facts to the members as well, though he doesn't usually enjoy talking about himself, it was pretty fun, he'll admit that.

regular era also marked two other very important things. 1: his official solo fandom name, and 2: smoking rumors. on one of his first solo vlives, niko announced that his solo fandom name was 'junis', a combination of his stage name, juno, and the word 'bliss'. according to the 96 liner himself, he found the word "bliss" to be a very pretty word, and it was a word he enjoyed saying, as he loved dragging the s at the end of the word, with juno meaning "youthful", it basically meant his fandom name was "youthful bliss".

though the fandom name was good news, the smoking rumors were definitely not good news. now, niko is not the first person in nct to be accused of smoking, but he was given a lot of flak for it because he seemed to find it funny, and he remained vague about everything. when asked if he does smoke during another solo vlive, he just snickered and said he'd leave it to others to figure out what was going on with that.

though he received much criticism and faced a hefty amount of backlash for seemingly not caring about smoking, regular was still a good era, a great one he would even say.

(2019) : THE BEGINNING OF THE BAD.. UNFORTUNATELY

once superhuman era rolled around, the then 23 YEAR OLD NIKO was, noticeably, not doing his best. though he was usually noted as one of the quieter member of nct, he seemed to have a shift in personality. he began retreating into himself, got less talkative, was clearly struggling more during promotions, whether physically or mentally, but he didn't say anything about it, he'd notice a camera trailing on him and would immediately put on his best fake smile, one which made it look like everything was okay. he was overly anxious, flinching at even the slightest touches from the members.

though his change in character was noticeable to his members, most of the people who watched nct content didn't really seem to care. as long as niko was smiling every time the camera was on, he cared about what he was going through?

well, korean netizens cared, because they always care.

unfortunately, niko wasn't spared from the countless day to day rumors k-netizens enjoyed spreading. he was accused of having a bad attitude because he told a staff member to stop touching him for no reason. it seemed that the unnamed staff member in the video wasn't actually doing their job, just trying to spur the other into giving them a reaction, which eventually worked because he snapped at the staff member who kept touching his arm, an irritated tone in his voice that most of his fans had never seen before. he never tried to address these rumors, believing he'd do more harm than good if he even tried to talk about it. the rumors were vaguely addressed by mark, who only stated that niko "wasn't doing his best mentally" and he'd been getting worked up by many people in his life for the past few weeks, he didn't comment on what the older was going through mentally, just stated that he was in a "bad state of mind".

rumors still kept coming up though, rumors began spreading that nikolas was some kind of drug addict after a video of him taking pills for unknown reasons. these rumors weren't entertained for long, because no professional idol would be dumb enough to pop pills in public if it wasn't prescribed, but the constant media commentary on him didn't help with his already spurring mental health issues.

superhuman era was really the first example of a bad era for niko, and it's definitely ranked as one of the worst. when be thinks back to the era, he's often surprised that he made it through without having some mental breakdown, but he also feels it would've better if he did, because bottling everything up was making stuff worse for him.

(2020) : A SONGWRITING RETURN & A WELL NEEDED EXPLANATION !

(STILL) 23 YEAR OLD NIKO seemed to be doing just a little better than back in may of 2019 when superhuman promotions began. after two years of radio silence songwriting wise, he made his eventual lyricist return with not one, but TWO songwriting credits on the album. he wrote both "boom" and "make your day" with seo jieum, the two of them spending hours bouncing ideas off each other during the creation of the album. though a return to songwriting was a success, he was still not doing his best, which reflected during the comeback stages.

with the beginning of 2020, and neo zone promotions came more niko solo lives, it was slow at first, as he was afraid most people didn't exactly want to see him, but after the first few lives. these little solo lives became a staple of comfort for junis during 2020. niko would sit and just talk about anything for up to an hour once every week. it was just him and susi alone in his room, talking about whatever he wanted to talk about.

niko would address some of the rumors during superhuman era. he talked about his thoughts, and why he was so antsy the whole time. he avoided looking at the camera as he talked about his depression, how he was in the middle of a fight between his parents, and how, though he was taking medication, all it really did was slow him down, it made him feel much more sluggish than the depression did. he said he felt as if he was "forcing himself to wake up everyday", and he made a formal apology to his fans for, in his words, "giving lackluster performances" during superhuman era. he also lightly alluded to the fact that he was having issues with certain staff at sm and sm in general, referencing a few song drafts that he had unfortunately trashed, but this specific live has since been deleted, an act done by nikolas himself, even with how he doesn't like to talk about it in future times.

midway through kick it promotions, it became clear to his fandom and even his own antis that niko had developed somewhat of a reckless habit of scratching his palms until they burned red, he also seemed to be avoiding talking as much as possible. the solo lives slowed down, he stopped talking much in group content, and really just floated around as a whole. he became much of a sour topic for nctzens to talk about, he was much less of a fan favorite now than all the way back in cherry bomb or regular era, most fans regarded him as a "lost cause", as someone who was dragging 127 down instead of providing anything special to the group.

niko never did anything to address his growing hate train, which sadly carried over to the release of nct 2020 resonance. he didn't seem to be around much, and truly appeared just to appear, he seemed to be more of a figure than an actual person, and though he seemed to be doing great in the beginning of the year, nikolas was in a horrible place by the end of 2020.

but when it didn't seem like it could get any worse, it did, because right as november came to a close, song lyrics allegedly written by niko were leaked by a supposed "insider" online. these lyrics sparked immediate outrage as they were.. and i quote, inappropriate in nature, alluding to things such as sex, partying, and personal family issues. while these lyrics were never commented on, considering the person got torn apart immediately by other nctzens, who scrutinized them for digging into such personal things, he wasn't spared from criticism, and he was being treated as if he committed a crime for writing about things he never even planned to release in the first place.

niko concluded the year with a final solo live, where he sort of just sat around and played with susi as he tried his best to ignore the growing negativity in the comments. he simply stated that he felt "tired", and apologized again for the worry he caused everybody. he said that he'd work towards "being a better idol in the future", clearly holding back tears as he tried his best to laugh about his train wreck of a year.

all in all, neozone and resonance were both downright horrible eras.

(2021) : A SLOW RECOVERING & A NEWLY EMERGING HOBBY !

25 YEAR OLD NIKO made again another great lyricist return with songwriting credits on the 1st and 4th track of sticker, the title track and "focus". in the beginning of promotions, doyoung thought it was important to reiterate to their fandom that niko wasn't going anywhere, and that "he belonged in the group". though he remained silent mostly, he seemed to regain a lot of his usual "niko-ness" during the sticker mv reaction, where he could be seen giggling as he complimented both taeil and jungwoo during all of their parts.

the recovering was slow, niko was very much still struggling with depression and questioning his place in the group, but any thoughts he had about leaving were quickly overshadowed by the support of his members, who stressed it to anyone who would listen that niko was not going to be leaving the group, that he did matter, and that they didn't care about what people were saying online. in the studio choom behind the scenes, niko had been talking the most ever he did since the beginning of superhuman era, going on and on as he exchanged stupid jokes with johnny, it was a nice thing, to see him talk again.

though he still wasn't really regularly seen much, he would occasionally pop into other members lives, just reminding everyone that he was indeed alive. it's not like niko was suddenly being accepted by everyone with open arms, but he was slowly piecing his life back together and his idol life as well.

sticker era was really.. fine, niko performed as he always did and was praised (surprisingly) for the lyrics he'd written for focus. he felt as if he had to prove himself because of how he disappointed nctzens during 2020 with his down attitude. he spent a lot of time just perfecting the choreography, hours and hours in the practice room dedicated to making sure he wouldn't make a single mistake. he never really spent too much time in the practice room because the members always made sure to drag him out in the late hours of the night.

with sticker era came a new emergence for all junis everywhere, guitar covers. niko spent a lot of time at home writing songs, or just listening to music in general, and whenever he could, he'd hop on instagram live to perform a guitar cover of his favorite songs, or he'd perform original songs he wrote. he described these new covers as a "coping mechanism" for him, as it was sort of the only way he felt he could express himself. the guitar cover era was sadly short, but junis are very much waiting for the day they make their return!! #bringbacktheguitar

so sticker era? it was strange, a mix good but still a mix of bad.

when favorite rolled around, niko was seemingly getting back to how he was right before superhuman, though he was still a little silent, he now began cracking his usual jokes and participating in much more group content. favorite era marked the famous doni vlive, where they sat and talked about bullshit for so long. it was so nice seeing him get back to how he was before everything went downhill, and the pair were so cute, it was like nothing bad ever happened.

niko enjoyed poking fun at his members during favorite, especially during the halloween practice, where he made fun of mark for being so into his costume. much to his own dismay, he'd get his karma, because his headband got uncomfortably tangled in his hair, and yuta had to help him get it untangled, so he faced teasings from his members as he pouted the whole entire time.

finally, after what seemed like forever, niko returned to the solo live industry, though he was insanely nervous, he had to have taeil encourage him for like twenty minutes before he pressed that go live button, and even then, he had doyoung join with him like fifteen minutes in because he was feeling anxious, and he hid behind susi like half the time.

favorite era was.. okay, definitely not one of his best eras, but it's considered a good era by junis everywhere.

(2022) : SPEEDING UP & STRAINED MUSCLES !

the now 26 YEAR OLD NIKO seemed to be back to full charge during 2 baddies. he found it fun to insinuate the most when it came to the title track of the album, amping up the sexual innuendos as the members tried their best to stop him from saying something career threatening. sadly, no songwriting credits on the album by our knowledge, lyricist niko would then again disappear for another year, BUT, he did bring back his treasurable humor, even swearing during the recording of 2 baddies, panicking as he asked for the editor to cut it out of the final version of the video (it did not get cut out).

after everything, niko seemed to be back to normal, back to how he usually was, teasing the members over everything and especially making sure to leave all things vague. a highlighting moment of 2 baddies was during idol human theater where he basically became a seat for all the members, eight of them had sat on his lap at least once during the video, and all niko could do was sit back and let them do their thing. some of his most hilarious moments from 2022 are from this idol human theater video, and from certain concert clips.

niko spent at least half the tour running away from the members who were trying to get him to take his shirt off, they would catch him eventually, which led to a very sulky niko backstage as his members practically died at his red faced-ness, and if the members weren't trying to get him shirtless, they were forcing him to give them piggyback rides, or carry them bridal style, or just carry them in general. one of the best things that happened this era was niko getting thrown a poster with his face on it, a poster which the members were all giggling over for the rest of the concert.

though it was all fun, niko sadly couldn't get through this era without injuring himself. right as their asia leg was about to begin, he injured his knee during a performance. there was nothing specific said about his injury or his health, just that he was in the hospital and would be excused from any schedules for an unspecified amount of time. surprisingly, niko became much more active on social media while trapped in the hospital, making stupid jokes about his injury and whining about missing the members on bubble (words that he would never say out loud).

so even though he ended the year with strained muscles, 2 baddies was a good era for niko.

(2023) : A SHORT LIVED BLOND ERA, A JEAN DISCUSSION, & SHOCKING CHRISTMAS GIFTS !

when the still 26 YEAR OLD NIKO returned after months in the hospital, all junis across the world died, because something changed. he dyed his hair, and he dyed it blond. yes, nikolas khornthon himself, known despiser of hair dyeing, dyed his hair. the funniest thing about this was that he didn't inform any of the members that he was dyeing his hair, so they all had their own moments of surprise as well. ay-yo era was just full of one surprise after another for all junis, because they were getting a surge of niko content they had never seen in any other era.

niko was working his ass off in the beginning of 2023, promoting the comeback with 127 whilst also appearing everywhere else. he continuously went back and forth, from country to country, it seemed he was getting on a new plane to go to a new place everyday, but he did all of it flawlessly. it was like every other day niko was in another country doing some other thing, but he seemed to be having fun. it was especially hilarious because fans would just randomly find him on the street when they least expected it, and he would always respond awkwardly, as if shocked that people knew he was.

so ay-yo era? good.

he would make his return to his original nct u lineup in august with baggy jeans, now 27 YEARS OLD and no longer blond. the blond niko era lasted for only a few months, and fans are waiting for the day it makes a return. he found the song to be silly, a song about jeans? he was totally entertained. he couldn't get through a stage without laughing, often having to hide his giggles behind his hand as he mimicked ten's lines.

baggy jeans niko was flawless, ruthless with his insults towards the members and a skinny jeans hater to his core (sorry haechan). a highlight of this era was him getting into a full on argument with jaehyun about which kinds of jeans were better, an argument which was egged on by the rest of the members, who could only watch as the two screamed about blue pants. don't even get me started on the liar game, niko got found out right away, as he's a terrible liar, and the teasing from the members ended up getting so bad that he had to hide behind taeyong for the rest of the game. baggy jeans was a good era, and it was clear that niko was glad to be back with his original lineup of members.

after what seemed like years, niko made a songwriting return on fact check, with lyrical credits on the albums 6th track, "je ne sais quoi". it was during this era that a small discovery was made, niko had revealed that he did write more songs intended to be on fact check, but they didn't make the final cut for the album. he simply stated that he would probably release them someday, just that he didn't know when exactly.

fact check brought a lot of cute niko dance practice clips. he was making doyoung's life a living hell, dancing stupidly around the practice room, praising haechan for doing the bare minimum, terrorizing johnny, and even suggesting things to add to the choreography. he also had a lot more lines in the song, fact check becoming the 127 title track where niko rapped the most, why did it take THIS long for it to happen? we shall never know.

again, this era brought a surge of niko solo lives, lives which would often be interrupted by a certain vocalist of nct dream. these solo lives brought some of niko's most iconic lines ever, such as "jeong jaehyun? i have no idea who that is..", "someone called me a bitch and i slapped them in the face", and, the most iconic of all; "i'm gonna get thrown out like all of those song drafts", which stapled fact check era as a good era.

as christmas approached, the still 27 YEAR OLD dancer was definitely very festive. he took the act of gift giving very seriously, making sure to get gifts perfect for each of the members as "be there for me" promotions began. when the day for christmas came, niko didn't just get gifts for everyone 127 member, he got gifts for every nct member. he had clearly put much effort into every gift, some of them even made by his own hands. he couldn't stop smiling as he watched each of the members open their gifts, even bringing out some tears from a certain few.

so while short, be there for me era was a good one.

(FINAL THOUGHTS) : 💭

in total, niko has had 12 good eras (7th sense, fire truck, limitless, cherry bomb, regular, sticker sort of, favorite, 2 baddies, ay-yo, baggy jeans, fact check, be there for me), 3 bad eras (superhuman, beginning of neozone, again sticker sort of), and 2 downright horrible eras (end of neozone, and resonance). it seems that, even with all he's been through, niko has always been grateful for the opportunities he's had as an artist, he's always been happy for his place in the group, and though he's had bad times, he never allowed for it to affect his performances.

throughout his seven years as an nct member, niko learned many things. he grew into someone much more comfortable in his own skin, compared to when he debuted, he is now much more talkative (even as an introvert), much more confident, and much more intelligent as an artist.

though he definitely still has a while to go before all of his issues are resolved, he's come a long way, and he's proud of himself for getting through everything he did.

“Czennies!” Kihyun greeted the number of viewers steadily growing, his grin wide and taking up most of the screen with how close his phone was to his face. He moved the device back a little to wave overenthusiastically, and then further still to prop it up against something and reveal two things: the living-room looking setting he was in, light of a large television screen illuminating him a bright white in contrast to how dark the rest of the room was, and the sight of Niko sat on the sofa behind him, eyes on his own phone rather than the audience watching on. Two microphones sat idle on the cushion next to him.

“I’m with NCT’s one and only Juno tonight, Czennies. It’s such an honour!” He gestured at Niko with a shocked look on his face, as if he himself was surprised the elder had agreed to being there, but then gave up the act and collapsed onto him; eliciting a groan from the older dancer when he did so, and then a muffled swear when the sudden attack made him drop his phone onto the floor.

“Yah! If my screen’s cracked, you’re paying for it,” the 127 member admonished, shoving Kihyun off of him and onto the floor before waving a hand aimlessly around on the floor in an attempt to retrieve the device. Kihyun only snickered, handing the (unharmed) phone back to its owner before turning back to where his was propped up before them.

“Suni-hyung and I, if you couldn’t tell, are gonna be doing—” he paused to flail around behind him before finally gripping onto the pair of mics, waving them around in grand & wide arcs for everyone to see. “—karaoke! For all our favourite songs. And maybe some of your suggestions too, if they don’t suck.”

“Which I’ll be the judge of,” was Niko’s first contribution to those watching, eyes narrowing for a quick second before returning to normal as he shoved his phone in his pocket and pushed his hair out of his eyes, reaching for one of the microphones in Kihyun’s hands before pointing it towards the screen. “So don’t give us really shit requests.”

“Hyung!” It was the younger’s turn to scold the older, although from the way he was biting his lips it was clear he was holding back a grin. “It’s barely been five minutes, hold off on the swearing.”

Niko rolled his eyes, a smile on his own face, and then gestured at the still-white screen in front of the both of them. “Hurry up and set it up, then. I still don’t know why we couldn’t have just gone to an actual noraebang for this.”

Kihyun paused from where he was reaching over for the TV remote, and began to list off the reasons on his fingers: “Couldn’t be bothered, I wanted to order food in, Lele said he might be coming over to see Jisung so I wanted to catch him when he came in, and I like our sofa better than those gross cracked-and-probably-sweaty leather ones in all the noraebangs closest to us.”

The dancer made to protest before stopping in his tracks, nodding at the younger member’s reasoning.

“Ordering in sounds good. What were you thinking?”

Kihyun’s nose scrunched up in thought as he fiddled with the remote until he’d found what he wanted and set it down again, before his answer seemed to come to him all of a sudden and he snapped his fingers with a yell of: “Italian! I want Italian! That place down the street does really good.. How do you say it in English? Mozzarella sticks!” He then turned to look at Niko a little hesitantly, as if to check his pronunciation was correct.

When he received an encouraging nod in return he let out a cheer and shot a grin back to the camera, before making another grab for his microphone and carrying on with what he was saying. “But they’re open all night, and I’m not really hungry right now, so I’ll just do it later. Singing always makes me work up an appetite!”

Niko huffed a laugh, flicking the switch of his mic on and off and on again idly as he sat up in his seat. “I’ll let you pick the first couple songs, then.”

Kihyun did a small fist-pump and grabbed the remote again, the previously white screen of the television turning black and plunging the already-dark living room into even further darkness, the pair’s faces only just visible. The 127 member scoffed and turned to their audience, pointing at the younger dancer and rolling his eyes. “Our Kyunnie’s so cheap. Using YouTube instead of all the actual karaoke games he has on his console. Maybe he’s scared of losing.”

“That’s not it!” Kihyun also turned to those watching to try and defend himself, pout pulling at his lips. “Jisungie unplugged it to use the socket for the new lamp, and I just.. Haven’t gotten around to setting it up again.”

“Ah,” Niko nodded sagely, smirk already on his face. “So the real issue is your laziness.”

“Hyung!” The Dream member’s whine was loud, but all Niko did was burst into laughter, shoving at Kihyun’s shoulder to get him to stop pouting.

“Yah, alright, I’m sorry. Just hurry up and put your song on, or I’ll really leave.”

Despite the put-out expression still being present, Kihyun complied and pressed a final button before abandoning the remote on the sofa again and rising to his feet as the familiar drumsticks that counted in Locked out of Heaven began to play. Niko shook his head, but there was a smile on his face as he stood up to join the younger singer.

“I could’ve bet money on you putting this on, I swear.”

His words went half unheard, Kihyun already having started, and the 127 member didn’t miss a beat when he jumped in to provide the appropriate backing vocals. They took turns with the lines showing on the large television screen, harmonised when the choruses came around, Niko even indulging Kihyun in a small routine that mostly consisted of bounces and side-steps, and on Kihyun’s phone screen the comments were flooding in far faster than they had been previously—joined by a person that only made them multiply in number

haechanahceah 나 없는 Bruno Mars? 기현아, 가고 싶어..

The younger member let Niko take the second verse in full to lean over his phone and focus on Donghyuck’s comment, eyebrows scrunching as he read it but then relaxing when he let out a laugh soon after.

“You can come over if you want, Haechanie-hyung, I’m definitely not stopping you. I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever!”

He didn’t get long to stand and chat, as Niko was soon pulling him back by his hoodie so he could join in with the chorus again, and then they were back to their singing and dancing; their volume gradually growing louder and louder until it reached a crescendo at the bridge and then slowly came back down until it had faded out completely. Kihyun didn’t give his older companion a look in before he was making a grab for the remote again and mashing at buttons, pulling up the second song he wanted while Niko watched on, a smile gradually growing on his face when he saw the next number on the roster.

The electronic intro of Glitch Mode was next to play, quickly interrupted by Kihyun’s stubborn “I want all of Mark-hyungie’s lines!” and Niko’s short laugh before they were launching straight into it. The former was also insistent on performing the choreo that he knew off by heart by that point, nearly sending his flailing elbows and legs right into where Niko was simply standing. His enthusiasm, although somewhat infectious, was enough to deter the 127 member into swapping spaces with him so he could stand back and let the younger take the reins for a while, sticking to reading the comments that were again flooding in—and, again, joined by a familiar username.

“Hey, Markles,” Niko smiled, waving his mic in form of a greeting. His face then turned into something vaguely wary, eyebrows drawing together. “You’re not gonna ask if you can come over too, are you? Chenle’s apparently coming later, and Hyuck’s just been saying he wants in on it too.”

Niko granted the younger member a nod and mock-salute before bidding him goodbye, just as Kihyun collapsed backwards onto the sofa while the final notes of Glitch Mode petered out, microphone almost slipping out of his loosened grip if it wasn’t for him grabbing back onto it at the last second.

“Your turn to choose, Hyung. This one and the next one too.” he heaved from his nearly-starfished position, one hand coming to brush his bangs out of his eyes before he heaved himself into a sitting position again.

“I know, silly. What do you think I’m doing?” Was the older man’s retort from his place standing before the television with the retrieved remote in his hand, mic shoved into the front pocket of his hoodie for the time being. “Something a little more chill, maybe? Seeing as it looks like you’ve tired yourself out.”

He sniggered to himself a little at his own comment, expertly dodging the half-hearted kick Kihyun aimed at the back of his knee for it. The piano intro of Everything is Everything that filled the room had Niko tapping along to the beat with his foot and slumping down on the sofa next to the Dream member, nudging him in the side to jolt him into action; Kihyun complying and singing the opening lyrics not a moment later.

They swayed as they sang, swapping lines and riffing off of one another with an almost practised ease. Kihyun let Niko take the lead for the most part, making all sorts of excited gestures and faces of surprise towards where his phone was propped up as if prompting those watching to react the same way (which, of course most were more than happy to do, and would’ve done so even without encouragement).

Niko received a standing ovation once he’d sung the final notes, Kihyun even going as far as to bounce up and down a little, microphone forgotten in place of clapping so hard it looked as if it hurt a little.

“Hyung! You’re so cool!”

The 127 member tried and failed to bite back a smile, waving the younger man off and reaching for the TV remote to choose his next song. “You flatter me. Go talk to your viewers while I find the next one, leave me alone.”

He’d only gotten a moment into his aforementioned song-finding before he was snapping his fingers and speaking again, his free hand reaching up to move his hair out of his eyes once more. “Oh! Mark was here for a second. Told me to say he loves you.”

Kihyun was back to pouring over the comments rolling in on his screen almost immediately, eyes narrowed as if he was trying to mentally scroll back up to where Mark had come and gone.

“So you mean I missed him?! You couldn’t have told me earlier!”

His complaint was paired with yet another pout, but Niko just rolled his eyes again.

“You were a little caught up, in case you can’t remember, like, ten minutes ago. You wouldn’t have stopped singing ‘Trouble trouble like a miscode’ even if I’d thrown a rock at your head.

Kihyun’s would’ve-been-indignant response of ‘it’s a good song!’ was drowned out by the familiar opening notes of 2PM’s Again & Again, and as soon as he’d heard it he was jumping right back up again to join the older member. They dropped the banter to harmonise instead, Niko even again indulging the younger man and dancing a little as they did.

Their already-minimal dance routine slowed down even further as they eventually came to the end, Kihyun leaning into the older dancer’s side and intentionally knocking their hips together until Niko relented and slung his free arm around his shoulder; although he did pointedly ignore the soulful eyes his dongsaeng was aiming at him as he sang, dramatically acting out every word, the older ending up forgetting the closing adlibs in place of pushing Kihyun away again. The younger singer overplayed his fall back onto the sofa for the second time that night, groaning even if he landed perfectly onto the soft cushions below, and curled onto his side to watch as the 127 member set his mic down in front of the television still displaying the finished video and made to sit down in front of Kihyun’s phone instead, granting the viewers with a small wave before turning to face the younger singer.

“Should we take those suggestions now?” A smirk slowly grew on his face as he took in the position Kihyun was lying in. “Or have you finally worked up that appetite?”

Shrugging proved to be a little more of a difficult feat than usual while lying sideways, but Kihyun managed it well enough. “Depends on what you pick, Nini-hyung. Maybe just one more song. Lele’s gonna be here soon, I think.”

Niko nodded in understanding and turned back to the phone, moving his hands in a sort of get on with it gesture and watching the requests flood in not long afterwards, in twos and threes and tens at a time, all from different artists and of varying genres. He pulled faces at some and simply levelled judging looks at others, letting his eyes do all the talking for him. It wasn’t until he saw one song in particular that caught his eye that he nodded somewhat approvingly, a small smile on his lips.

“I think you’ll like this one, Kyunnie. Smooth Operator, GSoul?”

Kihyun was up like a shot, eyes wide and excited as he made a frantic grab for the remote, all of his energy seemingly restored by the three words. “I love that one! It’s been on my repeat playlist lately, actually.. How do they know me so well?”

He continued to wonder while scouring for his desired song, while Niko watched on quietly, his gaze flicking from the younger dancer to the screen and then back again until he’d set everything up and the music began to play. The duo managed to channel some of Kihyun’s vigour from his earlier performance of Glitch Mode, and were getting into it fully, those watching enjoying it just as much. They seemed to be treating it as something of a grand finale, adding far more riffs and adlibs than the original ever contained, the matching grins on their faces so wide it looked like they hurt a little. Their perfectly matched energies served as a reminder of the reason most loved the pair of them together in the first place.

The joint show continued until, near the end of the bridge, the faint sound of the door opening could be heard, and from there it only took a few moments for Kihyun to look over to see who had entered, yell out a vaguely happy sound, drop his microphone to the ground, and rush off out of frame, leaving Niko to only shake his head and finish the song on his own despite it being the former that was initially most excited for it.

After it had ended, the 127 member set about collecting the pair of microphones and returning them to wherever Kihyun had found them, and turning the TV off, once again plunging the room into mostly darkness. The Dream member was still nowhere to be seen—that was, until Chenle came stumbling into frame with the singer hanging off of his back. He attempted to shrug the slightly-older 01 liner off of him, but to no avail, Kihyun staying right where he was and waving at all of the viewers instead.

“Chenle-yah’s here! And he said Haechanie-hyung’s on the way! And I actually do feel pretty hungry now..”

All three burst into laughter at the sheepish admittance, before Kihyun finally relented and released Chenle from his hold to bound over to his phone and fill the frame with his face; reminiscent of how he’d started the live.

“Czennies, I’ll come on Bubble later and tell you what I got from the Italian place! Promise!”

He then brought it back and handed the device to Niko, who just waved in lieu of goodbye.

“It was a little bit fun, I guess. Don’t expect me to be doing that again for a while, though, I feel like my lungs have gone hoarse.”

There was a snicker offscreen, a barely-hidden whisper of ‘maybe it’s because you’re old’ that clearly came from Kihyun, and Niko’s face morphed into something a mix of shocked and annoyed, passing the phone once again to a very confused Chenle so he could chase the younger dancer around the apartment, yelling curse words and insults as he went.

The Chinese vocalist stared at the scene unfolding before him for a few moments, grin tugging at his lips, before remembering there was an audience also listening in, and turned his attention back to the viewers.

“I think this is goodbye, Czennies, I wouldn’t want you to hear Niko-hyung beating KD black and blue. I hope you had fun! Love you! Bye!”

And just like that, the screen went dark, and the live—or maybe fever dream was something of a more accurate description—was over.
