YANDERE FARMER BOY: INTRODUCTION
Tumblr media
× cw: general yandere stuff; getting lost; large families; implied scary relative; stalking; manipulation; murder; cannibalism
× note: kenji my beloved
Tumblr media
⌗ A country bumpkin who just moved to the big city with his father, mother, four sisters, three brothers, grandparents, other grandparents, uncle, aunt, six cousins, dog, cats and cow. His family isn’t big at all, it’s normal sized! Your family is just pretty small, you know?
⌗ He was lost, wandering in the busy streets when you found him. He looked so pitiful and innocent: who in their right mind wouldn’t stop to help him? In the end, you directed him back to the apartment block he lived in with his family. (They brought up the entire floor.)
⌗ His family was so thankful they gave you their home grown watermelons - they’re super delish, and completely natural, unlike those supermarket fruits with nasty preservatives.
⌗ From then on, you keep seeing this farmer boy everywhere! The park, the mall, the shopping centre, even in your neighbourhood! He must have a terrible sense of direction, huh? Either that, or he’s stalking you.
⌗ But that can’t be it! Who’d think that? He’s a sweet summer child, with not a single mean bone in his body. Sure, he may be a little naïve, but he’s an honest and compassionate person. He treats everyone he meets with kindness and respect, and gains a lot of friends as a result. In fact, he’s already quite popular with the local community!
⌗ You think that after four months he’s pretty used to the city, but he still insists on you visiting him at his apartment - his siblings miss you! (So does he.) Everywhere you go, he’s right behind. You’re going to buy some groceries? What a coincidence: he’s been sent on some errands as well! Visiting the post office? He’s free right now, so he’ll accompany you!
⌗ If you ever try to excuse yourself from his clutches, he’ll attempt to guilt trip you into staying. His grandparents have been waiting to see you for a week already! His grandma even made your favourite snacks - won’t you visit? If that doesn’t work, he’ll resort to sticking to you like glue. It’s okay if you don’t know he’s there. He’s just protecting you, okay?
⌗ He loves to spend time with you, because you’re the person who noticed him and helped him! Everyone else ignored him because he looked poor, but you didn’t care about any of that! You’re such a blessing! He’ll be sure to treasure you forever and ever.
“Hehe, thanks so much, [Name]! You’re always so nice to me! I’ll be sure to repay you in every way I can.”
⌗ He may be from the country, but he’s no fool. He comes off as naïve, but that’s because he believes that he should only retaliate when the other person hits first. That way, it’s self defence!
⌗ Humans are scum. Of course, the only exception is his family and you, whom he loves with all his heart! He'll be overjoyed if you’d become part of his precious family too!
⌗ If anyone bothers you or even looks at you wrong, he’s already onto them. He may not be able to really read the room, but he still knows when someone holds hostile feelings or thoughts. After all, he knows plenty about hostility. The villagers were full of that hateful feeling when they drove out his family. That’s why they came to the city, y’know? But it’s not all bad; he met you!
⌗ Humans are like cows. They’re fat, and they make a lot of noise. They’re also quite dumb. Whenever a cow misbehaved in his old village, he would just give them a hearty slap. If that didn’t work, he’d knock them out. And if the cow continually made trouble, it became dinner’s beef. There are lots of similarities between cows and humans, actually!
⌗ Don’t worry if the beef patty tastes a little tough or gamey. Him and his mother assure you that it was just a really active cow. It mooed a lot, and ran around everywhere too! It was too bad the cow was getting too big, and too expensive to feed… Indeed, what a shame.
⌗ His family can’t wait for you to move in with them! You practically sleep over with him everyday, why don’t you just stay there permanently? He’s a very (abnormally) strong boy, he can help you move all your things into an empty apartment! They have an empty unit anyway: it’s perfect for you to live in with him!
⌗ His younger siblings are absolutely in love with you - each and everyone of his siblings claim that they’ll marry you when they grow up, but he’s quick to scoop you up in his arms and proclaim himself as your future husband! Wouldn’t that be a dream come through? Oh no, now the cousins are here too! They’re all clamouring for your hand in marriage! In the commotion, he whisks you away to kiss you feverishly (he’s jealous).
⌗ His parents live in the first unit with his youngest brother, and his brothers and sisters live in their respective apartment units. His uncle and auntie have their own apartment, as do his cousins and their two units. His grandparents have a unit, and his other grandparents have one too! With you and your lovely farmer boy sharing a unit, that makes nine units in total!
⌗ But wait, doesn’t this apartment complex have ten units per floor? As long as you don’t inquisitively ask about unit ten at the end of the hall, or the rotting stench that seems to waft from it, everything will be fine and dandy! You don’t need to know about the family’s extra beef stash.
“You make me super happy, [Name], and I’d love to spend the rest of our lives together. You’re always helping me, so I’ll make sure to repay that a thousand times over. Imma make you so happy, you’ll never wanna leave me!”

JJ‘s cousin, also sarah‘s best friend is coming back to obx for the summer break after 4 years. Oh and how Rafe remembers her
word count : 3k
warning: sexual tension, language, ghostface!rafe, alcohol, best friends brother, English is not my first language
pt. 2:
Full of anticipation, I walked through the city in hope of finding a good costume. After I woke up, Sarah called me and apologized for Topper's behavior where I told her that I was also a little bit ashamed of JJ's actions.
She asked me if I would like to come earlier and get ready together. Of course I agreed. She recommended a store in town where they sell costumes, which I was now standing in front of.
I went in and had a look around. I didn't want anything too flashy but still something that would be recognizable. I found myself standing in front of a bunny costume. It consisted of a headband with big fluffy ears, a furry nose and a flower for the bottom.
I paid for it and left the store. I quickly called a cab to take me to Sarah's.
When I arrived, I looked at the Cameron's estate. Now that I was older, I realized for the first time how huge Tanny Hill actually was. I walked slowly through the front garden, which was bigger than John B's entire home. Sometimes I wondered how fair this world really was. Why can Sarah and I live in big houses and John B and JJ live in small huts and have to fend for themselves?
I rang the doorbell and waited a moment before it opened and two arms wrapped around my waist. "Wheezie! How big you've gotten!" I looked down in amazement and looked at Sarah's little sister. "Sarah is upstairs in her room waiting for you. I'll be in the kitchen if you need me." "Thank you." I smiled at her before going upstairs to Sarah's room. Everything felt so familiar but so strange at the same time. As a child, I had never thought about what happens when I wasn't in outer banks.
But now, especially after last night, I wondered more and more what I had missed.
I opened the first door in the hallway. " Hey Sarah." I smiled at her as she came towards me. " Hey." She hugged me tightly and exhaled deeply. " Sorry again for the mess yesterday. This is not how I had imagined our reunion." " It's all right. As I said, JJ wasn't entirely innocent either." " How is John B? Is everything all right with him?" " Yes, a black eye and a few bruises. Nothing he can't get over." " Good good." She nodded. " So? Did you find a costume?"
I unpacked my things, including my costume, and showed her my options. " Hmm.. the pink satin dress would look super cute together with the bunny ears. "
Tumblr media
"Yes, that was my favorite too. I think I'll leave out the nose though." We laughed and held them in front of each other's faces.
" Who is actually coming to the party?" " Pretty much everyone. I just hope everything stays a bit more peaceful today than yesterday. " She sighed and put on her costume. She had a headband with a halo on it and big white angel wings that she put on over a short white dress. We got ready for the party together, put on our make-up and styled our hair. I left mine down with my natural waves.
I was putting on my lipstick when Sarah came into the room and spun around. "And? How do I look?" She looked really great. Almost like an real angel.
" Fantastic. If you weren't with Topper, I'd almost say you were taking someone home with you tonight. " Her cheeks flushed and she looked into the mirror. "You know that feeling when something just doesn't feel right? Like it shouldn't be."
I stood up slowly and stepped behind her. " Are you thinking about Topper?" I asked cautiously. " She shrugged her shoulders. " You know, I've only been in one relationship so far, but what I do know is that the right one never makes you doubt whether he's the right one or not.", I told her.
"He tries so hard, but I always have the feeling that it's more about appearances. The most important thing is that we look good together and show up everywhere together. I don't know if that's what love is supposed to feel like." Without wanting to tell her anything wrong, I hugged her from behind and rested my head on her shoulder. "I have a feeling you already know the answer to that."
2 hours later
The first guests arrived an hour ago and the house was getting fuller by the minute. After we'd finished, Sarah and I decorated the house and got everything ready. She took care of the snacks and I took care of the drinks. Sarah took Wheezie to a friend of her's.
Like us, most of the guests had masks on or were wearing light make-up.
The party went great. Sarah introduced me to a few of her friends and I caught up with some old faces. " Hey Scar I know you probably don't like Topper very much now, but he's just coming through the door." she whispered to me before he stood next to us with Kelce. He kissed her and pulled her close to him. He was wearing a black costume with some blood and 2 small horns on his head. Kelce next to him was dressed as a vampire. "Ah, good and evil I presume?" I pointed between Topper and Sarah, whereupon Sarah looked sheepishly at Topper. "Yes, we wanted to be recognizable as a couple," Topper said, hugging Sarah from the side.
"The most important thing is that we look good together and show up everywhere together. I don't know if this is what love is supposed to feel like." Sarah's words replayed in my head.
"So, did you bring any of your friends with you?" Topper asked me, looking down at me cocky. " Why? Do you want to die again?" I knew I was going a bit too far, but if there was one thing I didn't like, it was arrogance. Whether it was wrong or right of JJ to hold a gun to Topper's head was one thing. But running your mouth the next day after almost wetting your pants is beyond crazy to me.
" Excuse me?!" He was visibly angry and took a step towards me, letting go of Sarah. " Topper..." Sarah intervened but I also took a step towards him. "No, that's okay Sarah. He's welcome to learn that even a girl can beat his ass up." I could see the red color rising in his face. " Oh yeah? How about we- " before he could continue, he was interrupted by a male voice.
" Hey hey hey, why don't we all calm down first?" Someone said with a foreign voice, dressed as ghostface. He was wearing black jeans, a black shirt and the mask. He put his hand on Topper's shoulder, where I immediately noticed the golden rings on his fingers. They looked familiar but I just couldn't think of who they belonged to.
"How about you two lovebirds and Kelce get out of here and I'll take care of our little bunny?" He let go of Topper and put an arm around my shoulders. " Ra-" " Like I said, I'll take care of it," he emphasized again.
They just nodded and disappeared. Sarah turned around and whispered "I'm sorry" to me. "So that's how you greet old friends in the Outer Banks, huh?" I turned my attention to Ghostface next to me. " Old friends? I don't know when I've ever been friends with Topper," I said, walking along with him. He walked me out of the house, into the garden, where only a few people were standing to smoke or talk.
We sat down on a bench with a table in front of it and a tarp over it. His arm was still around my shoulders, so he pulled me closer and whispered in my ear, "Maybe not with Topper, but I would have thought my greeting would be a little sweeter." His voice was deep and somewhat muffled by the mask. Nevertheless, goose bumps formed all over my body. "Why should I greet a stranger?" "Am I? Am I a stranger?" He confused me more and more. "Who the hell are you?" " Oh bunny, I didn't think you would forget your first kiss so quickly."
My first ki- "Rafe?!" I looked at him, startled, and pulled the mask off his face. " Did you miss me?" There was a big grin on his lips as he scanned my shoked face. "I almost didn't recognize you when you were standing next to my sister last night. " " You were there last night too?" " Yes, but not long enough to see the fight. "
I didn't know what to say. He was the first person in a long time to leave me speechless. I also had no idea what he wanted from me. " What do you want from me?" I asked straight out.
He pulled me closer again and looked down at me. His eyes were always to fall in love with. Wait. Pull yourself together Scar. It's still Rafe. I took a closer look at his face and quickly realized how grown up he had become. He was incredibly handsome and only now did I realize how good he smelled. I looked into my cup and thought about how much I had to drink.
"Why do I have to want something? Isn't it possible that I just want to chat with you and find out how you are?" I've always been good at reading people and I knew straight away that he was lying and wanted something. "I'm fine Rafey, how are you?" I started to grin because I knew how much he hated it when I used to call him like that. He rolled his eyes and straightened up a little. "Now that you're here, I couldn't be feeling better, bunny. And I see you're just as cheeky as you've been for the last few years."
"Hmm, I'm beginning to think you've missed me," I replied. He softly put his hand on my knee, brushed his fingers over my skin and looked me in the eyes. Why couldn't I move? Why did his gaze captivate me so much? He lowered his head to the level of mine until his lips were right next to my ear again. " Would that be so bad? The last time I saw you, you were 14 and you just got your first kiss from me. " I tried to look away as my cheeks got hot but he took my chin between his fingers and turned my head around. " How 'bout trying again? You can't imagine how much better I am now."
His hot breath bounced against my skin. I bit my lower lip and tried to breathe normal. "Why so shy now hm?" he whispered. "Or didn't you like our first kiss as much as I did?"
We all sat in a big circle and waited excited until Chalsey had finished with the notes. After what felt like an eternity, she came into the room and placed an empty bottle in the middle of our round. "The rules are simple. Everyone takes a piece of paper from the bowl and reads out loud what it says, then spins the bottle and has to do what it says with the person the bottle is pointing at."
I was 14 at the time, as were most of the others in the room. The oldest were 16.
Linda next to me pulled a piece of paper out of the bowl first. She unfolded it and read out loud "kiss". A chorus went around the room as everyone waited to see who the bottle would land on. She crumpled up the scrap of paper again and put it back before taking the bottle in her hand, spinning it vigorously and waiting tensely. The bottle slowed down and stopped at... Kelce. Everyone looked up at the two of them and cheered.
Linda stood up shy and walked over to Kelce, who was sitting nervous in an armchair. His boys pushed him towards Linda. He stood up and slowly approached her face. When their lips touched, everyone started cheering and whistling again. They both sat back in their seats and looked sheepishly at each other.
"Scar, it's your turn." Chalsey said, holding out the bowl of notes to me. Excitedly, I took one out and opened it carefully. There it was and I couldn't believe my eyes. "Tell us, what did you get?" Sarah, who was sitting opposite me, asked me excited. "7 minutes in heaven."
My heart was beating incredibly fast as I took the bottle and spun it. I hoped it wouldn't be someone I didn't like. The bottle slowed down and my heart beat faster by the second. It stopped and my gaze followed the direction it was pointing at. Now my heart dropped in my pants. "Uuuhhh" everyone started giggling and whispering. Rafe. The bottle stopped at Rafe.
"My brother? Ew!" Sarah looked at her brother in disgust and shook her head. " You can use the wardrobe at the end of the hall. There are usually only umbrellas in there. We both stood up and walked towards each other. Rafe took my hand and pulled me behind him to the closet. He opened the door and let me in first. It wasn't really big, so I was slightly pressed against Rafe's torso as he got into the closet and closed the door.
Some light fell in through the crack in the closet and I could see Rafe's face. "Hi." I said shy. "Hey." He smiled a little and carefully put both hands on my hips. " We don't have to do this if you-" " No no no- I mean- it's okay Rafe. I'm not a kid anymore." The truth was, I'd always had a little crush on Rafe. I knew he was Sarah's brother, but I couldn't help it. Besides, I was sure he saw me as nothing more than his little sister's girlfriend. And I was only a year younger than Rafe.
I didn't want him to think I was a little girl who was scared, so I placed my hands on his chest. I could feel his heart beating fast under my palms. Was he nervous? His face moved closer to mine until I could feel his breath against my lips. " Have you ever kissed anyone?" I shook my head. " No." A smile formed on his lips before he brushed them against mine.
My heart felt like I was about to have a heart attack. "You smell good." Rafe whispered and looked me straight in the eyes. I got goosebumps as his grip on my hips tightened. "You too."
His lips finally touched mine and he closed the distance between us. He placed a hand on my cheek and stroked it with his thumb. His lips were soft and he tasted of the popcorn we all ate earlier. His second hand slowly stroked my stomach, which was exposed by my crop top. It startled me briefly, causing my mouth to open slightly. Rafe took his chance and ran the tip of his tongue over my bottomlip and then into my mouth.
I didn't know what to do so I did the same as he did, whereupon his grip on my cheek tightened a little and he pressed his body against mine. He let go of my lips and breathed just as quickly as I did. "You're a really good kisser," he moaned.
Out of breath, I could hardly answer and just nodded shyly. "Hey! Seven minutes are up!" Chalsey's voice rang out from behind the wardrope. "Too bad you're going home tomorrow," Rafe whispered in my ear and kissed my cheek.
I snapped out of my thoughts when Rafe stroke my cheek. " I think you did." he smiled and looked at me. "My question is still open though, what do you really want from me?" His eyebrows furrowed and his expression became a little more irritated. "Bunny, I told you I don't want to -" "Hey! Get your slimy hands off her!" I jerked my head to the side. " JJ?" Now I was the one who was irritated. "What are you doing here?" " I wanted to talk to you, to find out how you're doing. We haven't spoken all day." Rafe stood up next to me and looked at JJ. "Are you surprised she doesn't want to talk to you after you put a gun to Topper's head yesterday?" "You stay out of this Rafe!"
I stood up and put a hand on Rafe's chest to hold him back. "Rafe, please go inside. I'll sort it out." " Are you sure?" I nodded and smiled at him briefly. " Okay, I'll be inside if you need me." " Thanks, Rafe." He went inside and left me and JJ alone.
"JJ...what were you thinking?" I sat back down on the bench. "I don't know. I just saw him almost drown John B and then, well... that was the first thing that came to my mind." "Why did you even have a fucking gun on you?" " It's a long story but John B and I found it a a few weeks ago." I shook my head and eyed him. I could tell he was really sorry, but that didn't really change anything for now.
" JJ, I'll be home tomorrow or tonight. I'll write to let you know. But please go now." He sighed but listened to me." Love you, Scar. See you later." "Love you too, JJ." I watched him leave the property and then went back inside myself.
" Scar! Is everything all right? I'm so sorry I left you alone with Rafe, it was so stupid of me." I smiled and looked at my hands. " It's all right. He wasn't that bad to be honest." " Wow. Are you sure we're talking about the same person?" " Uhm, Sarah.. can I sleep here tonight?" " Yes, of course. When the party's over, we'll make ourselves comfortable and it'll be just like old times." I could tell she was happy and I hoped she was right.
At least one thing was going to be like it used to be. • thank you so much for reading, let me know If you want part 3 xoxo Sarah

𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐌𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈'𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐟 𝐈 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨
Tumblr media
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 (Ralph x Reader) You’ve been pining after Ralph for months now, convinced that he’s not interested in you or any other woman for that matter. Little did you know that you were only half right.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 Smut (18+ only, MINORS DNI I don’t care what you say, be respectful of my goddamn boundaries it’s not that difficult), mentions of masturbation (m and f), mentions of pillow humping, protected p in v (wrap it before you tap it hens), riding, Ralph is a virgin, mutual pining, crying, oral (m receiving), some fluff, I guess there’s also some angst?
𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞 Briefly proof-read but may still be some mistakes. At 7.7k words, this is by far the longest one-shot I’ve ever written. I was minding my own business, being in love with Eddie, and then Ralph came along and decided that I should also be in love with him. At this point my love life is fictional characters and only fictional characters, and I’m at peace with that. Also, I really shouldn’t have to say this, but if you’re a minor you really shouldn’t be reading my work or interacting with it or my blog. I’m not responsible for the media you consume, you are, and I will block you if I think you’re a minor. (Also before anyone says anything, condoms did exist in the 1920s, they were just thicker and probably not as comfortable or effective as they are nowadays)
When you first met Ralph, it had been a year ago at one of the parties his sister held regularly. You’d been invited because you were a cousin of one of Victoria’s friends, though you suspected back then it was just for them to have someone new to ridicule and make a spectacle of with the way they kept looking at you from a distance and giggling. However, whatever snide or mean remarks had been made about you had never reached your ears. In fact, quite the opposite happened. You heard nothing but kind words that Victoria and her confidants had said in regard to you. Pleasant, delightful, entertaining, sweet, compliments were all you’d heard spoken about you. However, something curious they’d also said had also gotten back to you.
Oh, she’d be the perfect friend for Ralph, don’t you think?
Ralph himself had been nothing but a gentleman to you for the short amount of time you conversed at the party. He was like an excitable puppy at times, definitely not acting his age, but it was something you found to be endearing. He asked you so many questions about yourself and your dreams and aspirations, genuinely interested in you despite having only just met you. You were disappointed when he was dragged away by his father to talk to other guests and worried that you’d lost your chance to get to know him more.
Your concern dissipated, however, when Victoria started inviting you over to the estate more. You were there as her guest and not Ralph’s but somehow you ended up spending more time with him than the elder of the twins. She didn’t seem to mind though, encouraging your friendship with him whilst also getting to know you more herself. You found her to be a little abrasive at times (you didn’t approve of the way she treated her brother) and more materialistic for your tastes but she proved to be a steadfast friend just like the younger twin.
After a while, you found yourself spending more and more time at the estate but at the request of Ralph. That wasn’t to say that Victoria had stopped inviting you to the estate, but her invitations were less frequent, and you ended up spending more time with her twin than with her. Even when you were invited to stay for a week or two at a time, you saw more of the younger Penbury than you did of her unless it was for dinner or for an outing with both of the twins to go shopping and explore the city. You didn’t mind this, however. It gave you the two of you the opportunity to get to know one another better, resulting in you become closer friends because of it. You’d even go so far as saying that he was your best friend and someone that you could rely on. His puppy-like energy and enthusiasm were matched by his love of playing the ukulele, which he often strummed when you asked him to, and that intelligence and insightfulness you’d caught vague glimpses of at the party. He was a lot smarter than his sister gave him credit for, and he seemed to positively glow and flourish when it was just the two of you.
With the amount of time you spent alone together, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise when you realised you’d developed feelings for him beyond friendship. Despite the differences in your backgrounds and lives, you both bonded and formed a friendship that meant a lot more to you than other friendships you had. You were always writing to each other if you couldn’t see one another, and when you did spend time together neither of you wanted it to end. Some of your happiest memories now were from your time spent in each other’s company. Ralph making up songs about you on his ukulele. Drinks by the fireplace. Days out to explore a part of the city that he hadn’t shown you yet, even if it was somewhere you’d been before by yourself because it just wasn’t the same if he wasn’t there with you. Dancing together at parties and laughing at each other’s jokes while you stood so close your lips could almost brush against his.
Once you had this realisation about your feelings, you ultimately decided not to bring it up with Ralph. He never seemed to be interested in romance or relationships, more than satisfied with his lot in life. His father had often offered to find a wife for him, but he declined each time and wasn’t pressured into finding someone. The younger Penbury was content playing his ukulele and throwing parties with Victoria. Seeing him happy and being his friend was enough for you. At least, that’s what you told yourself while you were in his company.
In the hours of the night, when you were alone in your own room at home or the guest room that had basically become yours for whenever you stayed over at the estate, you had to silence yourself as you let out your pent up feelings and attraction towards him. You’d spent the hours of the early morning on more than one occasion imagining what it would feel like for him to touch you. To hold him against you as you bounced up and down in his lap. The way he would sound moaning or whimpering above you as he thrusted in and out of you. The feeling of his skin against yours, his tongue lapping at your dripping cunt while he pinned down your hips to stop you moving. You were embarrassed at times by how much you craved him, often having to avoid his gaze the morning after your pleasured yourself to thoughts of him. If he’d noticed the way you refused to look him in the eyes until later in the day, he hadn’t said anything to you about it and didn’t act any differently around you.
Now, exactly a year after you first met one another, you were preparing for yet another party. Victoria had invited you and had even insisted on you staying at the estate for a while after, three weeks to be exact. It would be the longest that you’d visited, not that you were complaining. You could never complain at getting to spend more time with Ralph, even if that meant it would be three weeks of you endlessly pining after him while forcing yourself to maintain the friendship you had. You’d endure it as long as you got to see that beautiful, boyish smile of his.
When you arrived the morning of party day, Ralph eagerly greeted you as you stepped out of the carriage. He was quick to pull you into a tight embrace, beaming from ear to ear.
“Oh, Y/N, how I’ve missed you so! I couldn’t sleep a wink last night thinking about you,” he said as he pulled back, his hands lingering on your arms for a brief moment.
“I’ve missed you to, Ralph. Ever since Victoria’s letter arrived in the post, I’ve been preparing for the party. Father even bought me a new outfit for the occasion. I can’t wait for you to see it later tonight.”
Ralph bent his arm at the elbow and held it out for you. “Darling, you’re going to look absolutely marvellous. I daresay you’ll be the most beautiful lady there.”
You laced your arm through his and tried to ignore the way your stomach fluttered at how the pet name rolled off his tongue so easily. It was something he’d started calling you two or three months ago now and you still somehow hadn’t managed to get over how much you adored that you were the one he addressed in such a way. He didn’t even call his own twin sister darling. You assumed it was because of how close you’d grown as friends, the two of you inseparable whenever you stayed at the estate.
You didn’t know it then, but that night you were going to realise how wrong you were.
***
As always, the party downstairs was busy and buzzing with conversation and jazz music. You hadn’t meant to be late heading down into the ballroom, but you wanted to make sure you looked absolutely perfect before making your entrance. Even though you knew Ralph wouldn’t see you any differently, a tiny part of you hoped that he would notice and perhaps change his perspective of you from just friend to something more. It wasn’t a scandalous outfit by any means, but the way black skirt hugged your curves and stopped at the ankles to reveal stocking clad legs and black heels certainly made you feel like you looked scandalous. Partnered with the loose white blouse tucked into the waistline and the delicate gold necklace hanging around your neck that your mother gave you, you prayed that you looked both elegant and appealing enough to grab his attention. With one final look at yourself in the mirror, applying another layer of lipstick anxiously, you finally left the guest room and made your way downstairs and to the ballroom.
You immediately spotted Victoria with her friends and waved, smiling when she returned the gesture happily and took a sip of champagne from her glass. You politely said hello to the familiar faces that were in attendance and weaved your way through the crowd to sit at yours and Ralph’s usual table. He was nowhere to be seen, but you thought nothing of it as you took your seat and scanned the room to try and spot him. The butler brought over your own glass of champagne for you, and you thanked him before taking a sip and resuming your search for your best friend. When your eyes finally did land on him, you deflated a little at seeing him standing beside his father. He looked terribly bored as he listened to him droning on and on with another guest, glancing around the room. You beamed when his eyes finally landed on you and wiggled your fingers at him, feeling a rush of happiness when he waved back to you. You hoped you’d get to speak to him and have at least one dance with him before the end of the night.
A tap on the shoulder pulled your focus away from him and you turned your head to see an unfamiliar man standing before you. He looked to be about the same age as you and Ralph, his hair dirty blonde curls and a narrower jawline than you friend’s. He had a nice smile, you supposed, but it was nothing compared to Ralph’s.
“I was wondering, my lady, if you would care to dance?” he asked, holding out his hand for you to take. You were ready to decline and say no, but when you glanced back and saw that Ralph had now been roped into the conversation with his father you sighed and turned back to the stranger.
“Why not? It would be my pleasure,” you told him politely as you rose and took his hand. You allowed him to lead you to the dancefloor and forced yourself to keep smiling so that you wouldn’t embarrass Ralph or his family. Even though you weren’t a member of the household, you still felt obligated to uphold the image they cared about so much because of how often you found yourself staying at the estate. It was like a second home to you now, and as such you were going to treat it and the family as such.
“So,” the man in front of you said as you started to dance. “I hear you’re a frequent guest of the Penburys’. Would I be correct in assuming that you and the young Mr Penbury are courting, my lady?”
You felt your heart sink in your chest. “While I may be a guest here often, you would be incorrect in that assumption. Ralph and I are just friends.”
Your heart sank even more at the way he lit up at that. “Oh really? A woman as pretty as you? Does that mean you’re open to courting others, perhaps?”
“I’m flattered, but I –”
“Why don’t I take you out to dinner sometime? There’s a delightful restaurant that I’m sure you’ll love.”
Your patience was beginning to wear thin. “As lovely as that sounds, I’m afraid I will have to decline.”
“But why?” he asked, making you grit your teeth behind your smile. “Are you already promised to another man?”
“No. I would just rather –”
His hand gripped your hip a little tighter and you started to feel uncomfortable at his persistence. “Won’t you please give me a chance, my lady? I’m sure you’ll find me to adequate company, and I can offer a lot of money to someone like you.”
You stopped dating then and dropped your hands, stepping away from him. “I’m sorry, my lord, but I would rather die alone than spend my life with you. I have tried to tell you that I’m not interested, but still, you persist and ignore me. Now please move out of the way if you would be so kind. I need some fresh air.”
Unwilling to wait for a response, you pushed past him and made your way out of the back of the estate and into the gardens, hugging yourself as you stood in the cold. You knew that you might have negatively impacted the Penburys’ reputation and good standing by being rude, but you couldn’t bring yourself to care. All you’d wanted was to spend the night dancing and laughing with your best friend, and instead you’d been forced to leave the party just to escape that stupidly persistent man. You weren’t naïve; you knew that there were men out there who weren’t like Ralph and treated women more like objects of their desire as opposed to real people just as worthy of their respect as other men were. In fact, you thought yourself to be rather lucky that Ralph wasn’t like the others. He was sweet and kind and treated you like an equal, never once forcing himself on you or presuming that you were interested in him just because he was a rich man that lived in a fancy estate.
Assuming the footsteps you heard behind you belonged to that man from the party, you didn’t bother to turn around and continued to stare out over the vast gardens. You forced yourself to maintain a neutral facial expression as you prepared yourself to be bombarded once again with questions asking you to court him and why you were turning him down. If you weren’t so concerned about sullying the Penburys’ reputation and upsetting Ralph, you’d turn around and give him a piece of your mind. Perhaps you’d even give him a good knee to the –
“Darling? Are you alright?”
Thank God, it was Ralph.
You gave him a small smile as you turned your head to look at him. “Of course I am. How are you enjoying the party so far? From the looks of it, this could be your most successful party to date.”
Maybe you’d been hoping that your question would be a distraction so that you wouldn’t have to tell him what was wrong. Unfortunately, you weren’t so fortunate.
“You’re trying to change the subject,” he stated, his tone stern. “I saw you leave. Did something happen in there?”
“It’s nothing. I just needed some air.”
You gasped when he grasped both of your hands in his, staring into your eyes with determination.
“Please, don’t lie to me. There’s something else going on here and don’t think I haven’t noticed it. There are times when you won’t even look at me, times where you seem sad and distant, and then you lie about it and say that everything is fine. How am I supposed to help you if you won’t tell me anything?”
A sigh left your lips. Of course he’d noticed. He was much more perceptive than everyone else gave him credit for, including you apparently. The hurt expression on his face had you tearing up as you looked down at your joined hands. He was always noticing things, why wouldn’t he have noticed that his best friend was acting differently?
A choked laugh left your lips when he dropped your hands to wipe away your tears once you’d lifted your head, his fingers leaving tingles in their wake.
“Come,” he cooed, “let us go up to my room. There’s more privacy there and we won’t be interrupted. Then you can tell me what’s truly on your mind.”
You didn’t have the strength in you to decline and feed him another lie. So, you allowed him to tentatively take hold of your wrist and lead you back into the house. You caught a quick glimpse of the man you’d left behind on the dancefloor as you passed the ballroom, grateful that he seemed to be preoccupied with dancing with some other unfortunate woman.
The lock clicking once you were both in Ralph’s room made you release a breath you’d been subconsciously holding in, the sounds from the party downstairs dulled and muffled. You watched as the younger Penbury twin lit a few candles before he returned to you, sitting on the mattress and motioning for you to join him. You hesitated momentarily then decided that it would probably do more harm to shut him out than let him in and took a seat beside him.
Ralph cleared his throat. “So… um… well…”
“Yes?” you asked, gazing at him and watching in amusement as he shifted uncomfortably.
“Yes. Well. It has come to my attention that for a few months now you’ve been a bit off with me. I want to know what it is I’ve done that’s upset you.”
Your heart broke a little at his words. “Oh, Ralph, you’ve done nothing to upset me whatsoever. In fact, you’ve been a true and wonderful friend. The best friend I could ever ask for.”
“Then what is it? What’s been making you so sad? Has Victoria said something to you?” The touch of panic with his last question had you frowning.
“No, she’s not said a word about you. Was she supposed to have said something?”
His face grew a little paler. “Ah, no! Not at all. Forget I said that. Besides, we’re supposed to be focussing on you here, not me.”
“What is it that you think Victoria has said to me? Is there something wrong that you’re not telling me?”
“Y/N –”
“Ralph.”
“– please just tell me what’s going on. I’ve been worried these past few months that I’ve done something to hurt or aggrieve you and even now I still fear that I’ve chased you away somehow. Just tell me what it is so that we can talk about it and sort it out.”
You ran your hands down your face, not caring if it ruined your makeup anymore. You always knew that eventually you’d have to have this conversation with him, you just hoped for a while that maybe it wouldn’t need to happen because either you or he would find a partner and you could move on. However, nobody could even hold a candle to Ralph, so you never tried all that hard to find somebody else and he was just never interested in anyone. Now, as you sat on his bed keeping him away from his own party, you chose to just lay all of your cards on the table and hope that he would still want to be friends after this.
“Sometimes… sometimes it hurts to be around you, Ralph,” you started, staring straight ahead. “From the day we met last year – a year ago today, in fact – you’ve treated me with nothing but kindness and respect. You bring such joy and happiness into my life that I am unable to imagine a life without you in it. But then I had to go and spoil it all by developing feelings for you and thinking of you in ways that I shouldn’t. There are times when I can’t even look at you because I know that the thoughts I have about you would make you recoil in disgust and then I wouldn’t have my best friend anymore. I never intended to make you feel like you’d done something wrong. I also never intended for you to know about these feelings because I know you have no interest in courting or romance and I didn’t want to make things awkward between us. You matter too much to me for me to throw away a friendship so dear to me, but now I can no longer keep my feelings locked away because I’ve been hurting you by doing so. I hope that you can forgive me one day for that.”
The silence that met your words almost hurt more than if he were to shout at you and tell you to leave and never return. At least if he yelled it would be a response that told you how he was feeling and thinking. You weren’t sure how long you both sat there in silence until you heard a sniffle. You turned your head and felt a pang of guilt when you saw that Ralph was crying.
“Oh, Ralph, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. Please don’t cry,” you said, taking his face in yours to wipe away his tears and being met with an expression you never expected to see in response to your confession.
Ralph was beaming.
His shaking hands rested on top of yours as he turned his head slightly to kiss both palms. “How could I ever be disgusted by you, darling? You could never do anything to change how I feel about you. Here I was, scared that I’d somehow scared you away, and all this time you’ve been hiding how you truly feel to try and save a friendship that didn’t need to be saved. How long have you been suffering in silence like this?”
“A few months now. It started after I began visiting more frequently. We spent so much time together that it felt almost inevitable, but I was sure that you didn’t feel the same way,” you told him, a part of you still trying not to keep your hopes up.
Your best friend brought your hands down into his lap, thumbs caressing the skin. “Truth be told, Y/N, I’ve been feeling the same way since we first met at that party. I overheard Victoria and her friends talking about you and I was intrigued, so I begged her to invite you so that we could perhaps become friends. Then we started talking and you were so genuinely interested in getting to know me as a person and not as some rich boy, and I realised that you were special. Do you know how many women have tried to get to know me because they know that my family and I are wealthy? But you were different. You were interested in me and not my monetary worth, which meant more to me than I can express. I knew then that you would be the only one for me until the end of time.”
Your heartbeat pounded in your ears as you took in Ralph’s words. You almost couldn’t believe it. Was he really admitting that he reciprocated your feelings towards him? This wasn’t a dream, was it? Perhaps you were still at home and fast asleep and would wake up to the bitterness of disappointment.
“Y/N,” Ralph said, his cheeks flushed. “Would it be too forward for me to ask for your permission to kiss you? I’ve never… you know…”
You gently placed a hand on his cheek and leaned in slightly, careful not to spook him. “I have thought about kissing you many times over these past months. If you wish to kiss me, I’ll be more than happy to kiss you back.”
As Ralph slowly leaned in so that your lips were almost touching, you remained as still as you could, wanting him to feel reassured that he was the one in control and could back out if he wasn’t ready or comfortable kissing you. When he finally closed the distance and his lips pressed softly against yours, you closed your eyes. You hesitantly moved your lips against his, mouths sliding innocently over one another as he tried his best to kiss you back. The fingers of one of his hands gently pressed against the back of your head to hold you in place while the other rested on your knee. Your free hand that wasn’t cupping his face took hold of his bow tie and lightly pulled, making him gasp against you.
When he broke the kiss, your eyes fluttered open to see that his cheeks were still flushed pink and his lips were a little swollen. He was panting a little as he gazed at you through his lashes.
“Did you like that, Ralphie?” you asked, the nickname slipping out before you could stop it.
He let out a quiet, high-pitched whine at the name. “Call me that again. Please.”
You smiled at the neediness in his voice. “Ralphie. My darling Ralphie. Did you enjoy our kiss?”
“I did.” His tongue ran over his bottom lip. “Please… please could I kiss you again?”
Without saying another word, you talk the initiative to kiss him this time. Even though he was inexperienced, and this was only his second kiss, he was a little more confident and his thumb stroked your knee over your skirt, his lips moving with yours. You bravely swiped your tongue against his lips and took the opportunity when he gasped to slide it into his mouth. He tasted faintly of champagne and strawberries, his tongue roaming your mouth as he tried to figure out what he was supposed to do with it. You tangled your fingers into his hair, ruining the meticulous way he’d styled it for the party, and smiled against him when you heard him moan at your gentle tugging. When he pulled away from you a second time, a small line of spit connected both of your mouths.
“Y/N, I feel a bit…” Ralph said, trailing off as he looked away bashfully.
“Is everything okay? Was that too much?” you asked as you removed your hands from his hair and leaned back to give him some more space. He moved is hands to his lap and stared down at his legs.
“No, it was wonderful,” he replied. “I just feel a bit… funny.”
You frowned at him, trying to decipher what he meant, and glanced down at his hands, quickly realising what he meant from where he’d positioned them.
“Don’t stare! It’s embarrassing and a lady like you shouldn’t have to see this.”
You raised an eyebrow at him. “Ralph, with all due respect, seeing it will have no effect on my feelings for you. It’s perfectly natural for your body to react that way and to feel ‘funny’. Sometimes I feel ‘funny’ too when I think about you if you understand what I’m saying?”
If Ralph was blushing before, he was now completely red. He hid his face in the crook of your neck and you giggled as you pressed a kiss to the top of his head.
“I don’t want you to think that I’m being… inappropriate, darling,” he mumbled against your skin.
You cupped his face and moved him so that you were looking him in the eye. “Sweetie, I promise I will tell you if you ever make me feel uncomfortable or if I think you’re being inappropriate towards me. And I would hope that you would do the same for me too.”
He nodded his head, his big brown eyes wide when you pressed a chaste kiss to his lips.
“Now,” you said, “will you please remove your hands? You don’t have to if you’re not comfortable doing so, but I’d like to see what effect I have on you. Women like knowing that their partner is aroused by them.”
He cringed when you said the word ‘aroused’ but did eventually remove his hands and placed them at his sides on the mattress. You waited for a moment to make sure he was okay with you looking and then glanced down to find that he was already tenting his trousers. While he likely wasn’t fully erect, you could tell he was straining against the fabric. You watched his face as you slowly brought a hand to his tent and gently applied pressure. He gasped and tilted his head back, his breath huffing out in pants as you began to palm him, grinding your hand down to create friction.
“God, Y/N, p-please,” he choked out.
You stopped moving your hand for a moment. “Please what, Ralphie? What is it you want?”
“I don’t… I don’t know.”
Your lips ghosted along his jawline. “Do you want me to continue? Or do you want me to stop?”
“Please don’t stop. But maybe… maybe you could… take my trousers off?” The last part came out as more of a squeak, making you smile and hum against his skin before you stood up and motioned for him to do the same. Your fingers fumbled with his belt buckle and yanked it out of the loops on his trousers before you set about unbuttoning and unzipping them. Before he could say anything more, you were on your knees and pulling down both his trousers and underwear just enough so that his hardened cock was freed and standing to attention level with your lips.
“Oh, sweetie, look how hard you are. If I’d known this was the effect I had on you, I would have told you my feelings sooner,” you told him, teasing him a little as you looked up at him and fluttered your eyelashes.
Ralph spluttered and covered his face with his hands. “Please stop.”
You giggled and gave his tip a gentle kiss, making him jolt with a quiet yelp. “Sorry, Ralphie. Tell me at any point if I go too far or you want to stop, okay?”
You waited for Ralph to give you a ‘yes’ before you took hold of him at his base and pressed another kiss to his tip. You sucked it into your mouth gently, your tongue dipping into the slit to taste the salty precum that was already leaking from him. He mewled as you slowly moved your fist up and down along his cock while you gave the head some love, your tongue swirling around it as you sucked it. One of his hands rested on the top of your head and you glanced at his face, his other hand covering his mouth as he watched you. His pupils were dilated as he kept his sights trained on you. You took a little more of him into your mouth as you observed him, a muffled moan barely audible over the dulled sounds of the ongoing party.
“Let me hear you, Ralph. I want to hear how good you feel,” you encouraged him as you pulled your lips off his dick with a quiet pop.
“But it’s embarrassing,” he replied, removing his hand all the same.
You continued to jerk him off as you pressed your lips to the underside of his cock. “If you don’t feel comfortable with it then that’s alright. I just want you to know that no sound you make could ever be embarrassing to me. I thought a lot about the kinds of sounds you’d make in this kind of situation, and never once did I think to myself that it would be embarrassing to hear them.”
His breaths came out in huffs. “Do you promise?”
“I promise, sweetie. Everything about you is beautiful, and I know any noises you make will be beautiful too.”
You placed him back in your mouth, taking half of him in this time and bobbing your head as you sucked. The groan that left Ralph’s lips as he stroked your hair made you squeeze your thighs together, desperate to feel even the tiniest bit of friction. You continued pumping his cock in time with the movement of your head, spit running down your chin while your tongue rubbed against a vein on the underside of his cock. His free hand squeezed your shoulder and his hips jerked forward when your teeth gently grazed against him.
“Ah, Y/N… feels so good, please go faster,” he rasped above you.
Obediently, your head bobbed a little faster and you dropped your hand to take him as far into your mouth as you could. You gagged when he hit the back of your throat and he yanked your hair.
“S-sorry, I didn’t mean to pull. Your mouth just…” Ralph’s words trailed off as he whined, his legs starting to shake.
“My mouth just what? Use your words, Ralphie.” Your hand was back to pumping him quickly as you pulled your mouth off him, squeezing his tip each time your hand reached it.
“Mouth feels s-so amazing. My body feels all tight and hot when you touch me like that.”
You lapped his dripping head with a hum. “I’m glad. Would you like my mouth around your cock again, Ralphie?”
His hips were rocking into your touch as he shook his head. “Don’t want to make a mess of you. Please…”
You immediately stopped what you were doing and rose to your feet, wiping your hands on some tissues from a box beside his bed from the last time you visited. He’d been sick at the time, locked up in his room and moaning in pain a lot.
Wait…
You smiled as it clicked in your head, but you decided not to mention it to him, not wanting him to feel embarrassed or ashamed. It was a discussion that could wait for another time. For now, you returned to Ralph and placed a soft but wet kiss on his cheek, wrapping your arms around his waist in an embrace that he reciprocated.
“Y/N?”
“Mm?”
He was quiet for a moment before he spoke up once more. “Do you think we could… oh, I’m not sure how to put it! I’m not all that experienced with relationships and… s-sex.”
You leaned back and kissed the tip of his nose. “Sweetie, are you trying to ask me if I want to have sex with you?”
He nodded his head swiftly, the tips of his ears flushed.
“I need you to use your words for me, okay? If you don’t use your words then I won’t know what you want, will I?”
Ralph took a deep breath. “Please could we have sex?”
You rewarded him with a kiss. “Good boy. Yes, we can indeed have sex. Do you have any protection?”
He frowned. “Protection?”
“Yes.” You sat down on the edge of his bed, leaning back. “Something that’ll stop me getting pregnant. Neither of us are ready to bring a child into the world, especially out of wedlock. Maybe Victoria will have some in her room?”
Ralph tucked himself back into his underwear and trousers, still hard, and promised you he’d be right back before he took off to his twin’s room. While you waited for him, you removed your blouse and skirt, placing your shoes neatly by the side of the bed. You were about to take your stockings off when he re-entered the bedroom, frozen in front of the now closed door with a box in his hand. His eyes widened as he drank in the sight before him: you, laying on his bed in just your undergarments.
“Did you find what you were looking for?” you asked him, snapping him out of his trance.
He nodded as he approached, holding up the box. “Um, yes. It turns out she has quite a few of them.”
Once he was stood in front of you, you sat up and placed a leg on either side of his so that he was standing between them. You boldly took hold of him by the bet loops and pulled him until he fell on top of you, your back hitting the covers while he kept himself propped up on his elbows.
“Are you sure you definitely want this?” you asked him, staring into his wide brown eyes.
His breath tickled your lips. “Yes. Do you? I don’t want you to think that we have to just because you… you know…”
“Ralph.” You made sure you maintained eye contact as you spoke. “I’ve wanted this for a while now. I've never been surer of anything in my life.”
He grinned at your response. However, before he could kiss you, you held a finger up to his lips.
“Before we start, what position would you feel most comfortable in? Would you rather I be on top or you?”
Ralph bit his lip in thought for a moment. “Could you, um, be on top, please? You seem to know what you’re doing more than I do and I don’t want to hurt you.”
With a reassuring kiss, you pushed him off you and made him lie down on the bed against his pillows. You pulled down his trousers and underwear, allowing him to lift his hips for you, and tossed them behind you to join the rest of your clothes. Your underwear and stockings were quick to join them, your body no longer concealed by fabric. You gave his cock a brief stroke, smiling at the broken moan that escaped him, and removed his blazer. Once that was on the floor too, you removed his bow tie and began to slowly unbutton his shirt, your fingers teasingly brushing against his chest. Once he was fully naked, you took in the sight of him beneath you and gave his thigh a squeeze.
“Oh, Ralphie,” you cooed, “you’re so beautiful. Such a pretty boy beneath all of those clothes. It’s criminal that you have to hide so much of it away from me.”
He whimpered at your words and ran a hand through his hair. “Do you truly mean that?”
“Of course, sweetie.” You leaned over him as you started to place kisses on his neck. His hands rushed to grip your hips as you littered his throat and chest with kisses, tiny remnants of your lipstick left behind in your wake. His words caught in his throat as he gazed down at you. When you reached his groin, you sat up and took the box off him, opening it and carefully pulling out a condom. It was thick and didn’t feel too pleasant, but you much preferred that to an unplanned pregnancy and becoming a social pariah.
Ralph cleared his throat. “It won’t hurt, will it?”
You frowned. “What? Putting this on? It shouldn’t hurt, no.”
“No, no, no.” He licked his lips. “I meant when we… you know… when we do it.”
You couldn’t help but smile and place a soft, wet kiss to his thigh. “Having sex shouldn’t hurt. It may feel a little odd for you at first though seeing as this is your first time. We’ll take it nice and slow, and you can tell me to stop at any moment. Even if we’re both close to finishing, if you tell me to stop, I’m more than happy to stop. I promise.”
As he finally, fully relaxed, he nodded to you reassuringly and you gradually rolled the condom down his cock until he was fully sheathed. You gave him an experimental stroke as you glanced up at his face.
“How does that feel?”
“Good,” he replied, his voice breathy.
Satisfied that he was comfortable, you straddled his hips and hovered over his erection, gently gliding the tip through your slick folds. “You’ll need to tell me when you’re ready, Ralphie. I won’t put you inside me if I’m not completely certain, so I need you to use your words.”
“Please keep going, darling. Please. I don’t think I’m going to last much longer. Just put me in, please.”
At the sound of his begging, you began to insert his dick inside of you, slowly sinking onto him before stopping halfway. He was already unleashing high-pitched groans and whines, his hands fisting the duvet cover. You gently rose yourself up so that he was slipping out of you and then sank back down onto him again, stopping at the halfway point once more. Your head tilted back as you repeated your actions, trying to get Ralph used to the sensation before trying to sit down on him fully. You listened to his shuddering breaths and moans, feeling him move as he arched his back off the bed.
“F-feels so good, Y/N. You’re squeezing me,” he sobbed, making you look down at him. His knuckles were white as he gripped the sheets tightly and his face was scrunched up as he closed his eyes.
You stopped moving and took hold of both of his hands. “Hey, pretty boy. Can you open your eyes for me?”
At the sound of your cooed request, he did as you asked and swallowed thickly as he watched you smile down at him.
“Relax for me. Use your hands to guide how fast or slow you want me to go. And keep your eyes open. I want you to be able to see what you do to me, okay?”
He nodded. “Sorry. You just feel amazing. Feels better than my hand. Definitely better than my pillow.”
You moaned at his words, gently moving down so that his cock was inside you completely. “You used your pillow while thinking of me, Ralphie?”
“I did,” he confessed. “Sometimes my hand wasn’t enough, so I’d hump my pillow thinking about how you might feel around me.”
You started to ride him slowly, Ralph’s hands dictating the pace. Each time he was completely sheathed inside you, you felt him graze against your inner walls. He squeezed your hips with each movement, and you gazed down at his face, cheeks burning hot as you saw the way he eagerly watched you gliding up and down his dick and the way your arousal made him glisten.
“Did you ever think about me riding you like this?” you asked, your voice husky.
“Fu- I did, darling. I imagined the way your boobs would jiggle if you went faster. It made me finish too quickly sometimes.”
You allowed him to bounce you in his lap a little faster, the two of you groaning at the sounds of squelching emanating from where your bodies met. You rocked against him each time your hips met, savouring the way he mewled and rolled his own up against you to try and get impossibly deeper.
“Mm, your cock feels so good inside me Ralph. Wish we’d done this sooner,” you purred, watching with glee as his eyes snapped up to your face, drool beginning to leak from the corner of his lips and down to his chin.
“M-me too. You’re squeezing me so fucking good, I won’t last much longer,” he cried, his eyes beginning to water.
Wanting to cum with him, you took hold of one of his hands and began guiding his fingers in rubbing your clit. The sensation immediately sent what felt like a jolt of electricity through your body. You rode him faster, clenching your walls around him as you leaned down to capture his lips in a brief kiss.
“Can you – ah – keep moving your hand like that if I let go?” you asked, unable to hold back the moan that cut through your words.
“Yes, anything for you, Y/N.”
You began to suck and nip at his neck, the hand that had been showing him what to do tangling itself in his hair. His finger continued to circle your clit and his free hand moved so that his arm was draped over your lower back.
“Say my name again,” you whispered into his ear.
He shuddered. “Y/N. Y/N, I’m going to –”
His hips jerked up into you as he wept, his chest arching against yours as he came inside the condom. Your climax soon followed, and you chanted out words of praise intermingled with his name, his fingers still moving against your clit but the movement sloppy.
You both lay there in that position for a while after, his hand removed from your bundle of nerves as you kissed the back of it. He gently removed himself from inside you and you fell so that you were laying on your side and facing him while he remained on his back. Your fingers delicately traced up and down his chest, grounding him as he came down from his high. When he eventually turned his head to look at you, you gave him a sweet smile and kissed him.
“Did you enjoy yourself?” you asked, somewhat self-conscious that he perhaps hadn’t liked it as much as you did.
His arms wrapped around you and pulled you so that your head was laying on his chest. “That was amazing. Perfect. I didn’t know that it could feel so… so…”
“Amazing?”
“Mm.”
You cuddled up to him but glanced up when you heard him sniffling. You sat up, worried that he was already regretting what had happened, but you felt a warmth flood your chest at the smile that adorned his beautiful face. He gazed up at you in awe, his eyes taking in every inch of you that he could see.
“I love you, Y/N,” he whispered, reaching up a hand to caress your face.
You leaned your head into the touch, kissing his palm. “I love you too, Ralphie. With all my heart.”
Almost as if only just remembering, Ralph rose to his feet and removed the condom, tying a knot in it and walking on wobbly legs over to the bin to dispose of it. Once he returned to you, he lay back down on the bed and pulled you down to hold one another. The two of you eventually drifted off like that, the party downstairs abandoned and forgotten about.

Little sister, big problems - Kelly Severide
Tumblr media
Fandom: One Chicago
Pairing: Kelly Severide x Reader
Requests: Can I request an imagine with Kelly severide? Your parents are non existent and you have to look after your baby sister and the babysitter falls through so u have to bring her to the station?
•••
Life hasn't always been the kindest to you. Your mom had you in her teen years and with your dad completely out of the picture she worked tirelessly to raise you on her own. Fortunately, she remarried and alongside your stepfather they gave you the most beautiful childhood you could ask for. It was later in your life when things started to go bad and everything became more complicated. You watched your mother go through fertility treatment after fertility treatment and it hurt you a lot seeing how unsuccessful they were, knowing your mom's biggest dream was to have two daughters. But somehow, by some miracle, it happened and you had a beautiful baby sister. Life had finally started to look upwards again when a drunk driver claimed the life of your parents on a random Thursday, when you offered to babysit your then one year old sister so they could go on a date night...and ever since it's been just the two of you.
You were in your 3rd year of med school when everything unfolded and ultimately you took the decision to drop out and find another career path, one which will not put you in debt and will allow you to go straight to work, so you could provide for yourself and for your little sister.
Fast forward a few years later you were now working as a paramedic on Ambo 61 and you finally found the balance you needed so badly. "How are things with Severide going? I haven't seen you at Molly's lately and I thoight something was up..." Sylvie said as the two of you were restocking the rig. "Oh no, nothing like that...we're doing great I just have to look after my little sister and since my cousin moved to another city, I need to call the babysitter everytime I want to go out." and just as you said those words you saw the babysitter's car pulling up in front of the firehouse sending you into a state of panic. You immediately dropped everything you were doing and ran towards them to see what was up. Passing the squad table, Kelly also got up noticing what was going on and decided to follow you.
"Hey, everything's alright? " you asked picking up your little sister, Bria as she seemed super excited to see you. "I'm sorry for dropping in like this, but my mom slipped on ice and she's in the ER so I really have to go be with her." The babysitter said handing you Bria's bag with her stuff. Nodding in understatement and after wishing her mom well you turned around to head back into the firehouse, just to find Kelly and Bria already laughing with each other at the Squad table. "Looks like you already made yourself at home, little lady." You said actually amused at how she already had the squad guys wrapped around her finger. "Come on! Let's tell Chief you're staying here this shift." You said extending your hand waiting for her to grab it, but instead she just wrapped her little arms around Kelly's neck. "I guess you're gonna have to talk to Boden alone." Kelly spoke and before you could answer, a call came in for Ambo. "Alright, you be good and play with your toys...they're in the bag." You quickly said while heading towards the Ambo. "Don't mind us, we'll be having fun over here!" Kelly reassured you and they headed inside.
While you were out on the call, Bria was quickly warming up to everyone at 51. She's been there before but only for quick trips and now everyone was trying to keep her entertained. "Do you want to go take a nap?" Kelly asked as he noticed Bria yawning and she nodded in agreement. Picking her up they headed to Kelly's quarters far away from all the commotion. "When is Y/N coming back? She always stays with me until I fall asleep." Bria mumbled while rubbing her eyes. "It might be a while, but I'll stay here with you until she comes back." He said dimming the light but not turning it off completely, as he already knew the little girl was scared of darkness. "Kelly can I ask you something?" Nodding in response he waited for her to continue. "Why don't you live with us?" Letting out a chuckle at the question, Kelly had to give it a second to actually find an answer to that question. "Why? Do you think I should?" "Well yes, you know Y/N makes me pancakes every morning so maybe you should make her pancakes in the morning too., so if you'd live with us you could do that." At this point Bria seemed wide awake propped on her elbows and demanding answers from Kelly who tried his best not to laugh at the fact that Bria was just a mini version of you. "Alright, then tomorrow morning I'll make you both pancakes...but you have to sleep now, it's getting late." He once again tried to tuck her in. "With blueberries?" Bria stuck out her pinky finger waiting for Kelly to do the same. "Yes with blueberries!" Once content with his answer Bria slowly fell asleep right when Y/N arrived.
"Did she give you a hard time?" you asked as Kelly carefully closed the door to his quarters and gave you a kiss. "Not at all, but I've been ordered to make pancakes for the two of you in the morning."
Bria slept through the entire night and thankfully there wasn't another call until the end of the shift. Once arriving home Y/N carried her little sister to bed as it was still early and Kelly made sure to fulfill his promise. "You really don't have to do that..." you said knowing how sassy but also persuasive your little sister was. "But I want to...and I also pinky promised so." Kelly spoke getting all the ingredients out on the counter and you wasted no time helping him.
You and Kelly have been dating for a while but sometimes you still held a wall up because one, you were scared of getting hurt again and two, you really wanted to focus on Bria and make sure she has everything she possibly needs to have a good and healthy upbringing.
"I smell pancakes!" the joyful voice of your little sister echoed throughout the kitchen as she came running in, cllimbing into her seat. As Kelly served her the plate of her favorite pancakes, Bria didn't waste any time and dug right in.
"I'll stick around for a while...if you don't mind." Kelly said wrapping an arm around you and placing a kiss on your temple. That's when you realized it was time to let your guard down and despite all the rainy days you had, the sunny ones looked like they were here to stay. "I'd love that actually!"

Daughter of Steel and Bronze ~ HOTD
Ch 5 - Victory
HOTD x Targaryen!OC, eventual Targaryen!OC x Harwin Strong
Warnings: none really, Otto being a hater
Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The news of Princess Daena's audacious deed spread like wildfire. It was reported that during one of the Small Councils, His Grace laughed and raised his cup in honor of his niece. 'Bold just like her father!' His Grace supposedly said. His Hand, however, was much less enthusiastic about the news. Ser Otto was most displeased, saying that such a big dragon shouldn't be commanded by a small girl. King Viserys defended his niece, saying that Vermithor wouldn't have allowed her on his back if he didn't find her worthy. The bond between dragon and rider is one we know little about. The maesters of the Citadel have been trying for centuries to understand it, but it seems that only those with the blood of the dragons truly understand the monstrous creatures."
(Fire & Blood, Being a History of the Targaryen Kings of Westeros, by Archmaester Gyldayn)
~
A couple of days later, King's Landing
Rhaenyra couldn't believe her ears. "What? She did what?" Rhaenyra asked her mother. Queen Aemma just laughed, caressing her swollen belly.
"You heard me right. Your dear cousin claimed Vermithor." Aemma repeated herself, amused by her daughter's look of shock.
"Gods...That is wonderful! But how did she do it? How did she even get to him? I thought he dwelled deep in the caves of Dragonstone." Rhaenyra wondered out loud.
"You can ask her when she returns. I believe she will come here to say goodbye before returning to her mother at Runestone." Aemma informed her daughter. Rhaenyra frowned.
"So she won't be staying for the rest of my name day celebrations?" Rhaenyra didn't like the sound of that. She loved her cousin dearly. She felt deeply connected to her. They were like sisters. Sure, Rhaenyra had handmaids and her parents, but none of them knew what it meant to be a dragon rider. Her father did ride Balerion the Black Dread, once, before the latter died of old age.
But her father was a man of peace who preferred throwing balls and feasts. Her mother was sweet and kind and Rhaenyra loved her so much but she was never a dragonrider. Besides her aunt Rhaenys, she was the only dragon rider in the city. She was hoping Daena and Daemon would stay for a bit longer but the gods were cruel and decided that she would be alone for the rest of her name-day celebrations.
~
"A letter came from Dragonstone, Your Grace." Maester Mellos informed Viserys. He opened it and started reading out loud. In the letter, the measter of Dragonstone, Gerardys, informed them that a couple of nights ago, Princess Daena somehow snuck out of the castle and found her way into the caves below. She claimed Vermithor and rode him around the Gullett.
"Your Grace, we also have reports from Driftmark, saying that they also saw Vermithor flying over Hightide," Mellos added.
"Your Grace, with all due respect to the Princess, are you certain this is a good thing? She's only nine. How could she possibly control a dragon such as Vermithor?" Otto broke his silence.
The smile that was on Viserys's face was gone. He sighed.
"Dragons are mysterious creatures, Otto. Nobody truly knows how they choose their riders. But one thing is certain - Vermithor chose Daena." Viserys defended his niece with an unusual strictness in his voice.
"I know you don't understand. None of you do. But she is a Targaryen. It's only natural for her to have a dragon." His Grace added. "Finally, my dear Rhaenyra will have someone to fly with."
Otto remained silent. Viserys usually always agreed with His Hand, but this time it seemed Otto stepped over a line. Otto wasn't worried because of the girl but because of her father. It was well known at court that he and Prince Daemon heavily disliked each other.
He didn't have anything against the girl herself. She was just a child, but from what little he saw of her, she was a free-spirited, wilful girl who was allowed to do pretty much anything she wished for. And now she was in control of the second-largest dragon in the Seven Kingdoms.
Prince Daemon, known as the Rogue Prince, was dashing, daring, and dangerous, but mercurial and quick to take offense. He was ambitious and moody, as charming as he was hot-tempered. What Otto feared most was that Daena would grow up and be just like her father - brash, quick to anger, and impulsive. He prayed to the Seven that they would prove him wrong.
Tumblr media
Rhaenyra's POV
Princess Rhaenyra and her cousin, Princess Daena, were flying above Blackwater Bay. Daena would be leaving King's Landing in a couple of days and return to her home in the Vale. Rhaenyra was very sad but Daena promised her they would exchange letters. Rhaenyra had been a dragon rider since age seven but her dragon, Syrax, was much smaller than Daena's dragon, Vermithor. Daena had only been riding for a few days, but it was obvious she was a natural.
Rhaenyra turned her head back and beneath her was the mighty Vermithor and on his back her dear cousin. From this angle, Rhaenyra could only see the top of Daena's head and how her silver braid flapped in the wind. In that moment Daena looked up and the two made eye contact. The two girls smiled at one another.
As they descended, Rhaenyra thought of how much she would miss her cousin. "When will I see her again?" She thought sadly as the Dragonpit came into view. Vermithor landed first, quickly followed by Syrax. The Bronze Fury hissed as the dragon keepers came closer. Rhaenyra could hear Daena trying to calm him down.
Rhaenyra quickly unbuckled herself from her saddle and got off Syrax, but she could see Daena was still having trouble with all the belts and chains. Daena groaned in frustration which made Rhaenyra laugh. "Don't laugh at me! I'm stuck up here!" Daena yelled from atop Vermithor. This only made Nyra laugh harder.
Daena somehow managed to free herself from her saddle and carefully climbed down her dragon. She walked toward his head and caressed his scaly face. She kissed him right below his eye and the great beast seemed to purr like a giant cat.
"Sȳz valītsos. Kirimvose syt ivestragī nyke sagon aōha kipagīros. Ziry iksos iā rigle." (Good boy. Thank you for letting me be your rider. It's an honor.) Daena said to Vermithor. He shook his head and turned it to look at her. She smiled at him and with one final kiss, she joined Rhaenyra who was watching all of this with a smile.
~
Daemon's POV
Prince Daemon was always a proud man, now even prouder. His precious daughter, Daena, claimed Vermithor - the Bronze Fury, the dragon of his grandfather, Jaehaerys. The prince walked through the halls of the Red Keep, intent on finding his brother and talking to him.
He was informed his brother was holding a Small Council meeting so he started walking to the Small Council chamber. As he walked his long silver hair flowed behind him. He wore a bright red tunic and a black jerkin over it - the Targaryen colors.
He walked and ignored the Kingsuards stationed in front of the chamber. He opened the door and strutted in. Everyone present turned their heads to see who the intruder was. Viserys smiled at him. "Brother." He greeted Daemon.
"Your Grace." Daemon greeted back with a smirk and sat in his chair right across his brother's obnoxious Hand - Otto Hightower. "My lords." He greeted the rest of the men present. "Please. Continue. Don't stop on my accord." He added.
Otto sighed while Viserys coughed and continued speaking. "It's good you came here, brother. We were just talking about your dear Daena." His brother informed him. Daemon's ears perked up at that.
"Oh? What about her?" Daemon asked, feigning ignorance.
"About how you let your young daughter go unsupervised at night which enabled her to escape the castle and how she could've been killed. She survived by pure luck." Otto informed him using a tone parents would use on their children when they did something bad.
Daemon had to hold himself back from cutting his head off with Dark Sister. "I would have you know that my daughter is a Targaryen. The blood of the dragon flows through her veins. Vermithor chose her to be his new rider." Daemon defended his daughter.
"I know what she did was reckless. I scolded her for it. We had a conversation about it. She's a good child. She won't do it again." Daemon added before Otto could cut him off.
"That's good, Daemon. I never doubted your abilities as a father. I trust you will teach her how to better control herself and be a proper dragon rider." The King said to him. Daemon nodded.
"Of course, brother. Of course, I will. I'll make sure she becomes the most proficient dragon rider of our time." Daemon announced with the biggest smile on his face. The lords of the Small Council have never seen him happier.
~
Daena's POV
She was preparing for the midday meal she was to have with Nyra and the Queen. After coming back from the Dragonpit, Amanda ushered her into her chambers and told her to clean herself. "You stink of dragon!"
Daena laughed but allowed Amanda to help her into the bath. After washing herself with three different soaps, she got up from the bath and was drying her hair when someone knocked on her door.
"Come in." She said. To her surprise, her father came in. "Father?" He smiled at her and kissed the top of her head.
"Hello, sweet girl. I see you took a shower." He commented as he twirled one of her wet curls around her finger.
"Yes, well I am to have the midday meal with Nyra and Her Grace. I wanted to look presentable." She explained.
"Of course, I would expect nothing less from a proper lady such as yourself." Her father jested. She rolled her eyes.
"Why are you here, Father? I need to get dressed." She asked, confused as to why her father would visit her now. He looked at Amanda, who took that as a sign and left the room.
"I need to tell you something. I won't be going back with you to the Vale."
"What? Why?" The young princess asked, confused.
"You don't have to worry yourself with the details. Amanda will go back with you. I'm certain your mother will be most pleased to see you again." Her father told her, avoiding her questions.
Daena frowned. She was sad to hear her father wouldn't be coming back to the Vale with her but she was more curious as to why he refused to return to Runestone. She had a hunch it had something to do with her mother, but she knew not to ask.
"When will I see you again?" She asked, tears forming in her eyes. Daemon pulled her closer onto his lap.
"I cannot say for certain. I will write you letters every moon. I promise." He said, trying to comfort her.
"I...Yes, father."
~
After having the midday meal with Nyra and Queen Aemma, Daena returned to her room. She threw herself on her bed and sighed loudly. On the morrow, she will leave the Red Keep and start her journey back to the Vale.
She will ride back home in a carriage with Amanda. Her father argued she wasn't experienced enough to ride Vermithor back to Runestone. Daena wondered if her new mount would follow her. He was on the older side, almost a hundred years old, and Father told her dragons become lazier with age.
~
Runestone, The Vale of Arryn, a couple of weeks later
Lady Rhea Royce was patiently waiting for her daughter's return. It has been almost two moons since her dear daughter and her husband traveled south to King's Landing for the name-day celebrations of Princess Rhaenyra.
Her niece, Amanda, also went with them. Weeks ago she received a letter from Amanda, informing her that her sweet Daena finally claimed a dragon for herself. And not just any dragon. Vermithor, the dragon of the Old King, was now bonded with her precious daughter.
She looked from her bedroom window down at the courtyard. She was waiting for the gates to open and for the guards to announce the arrival of her daughter. Atop her fireplace stood a beautifully decorated metal chest. The inside of it was covered in red velvet. In it was a dark purple dragon egg with swirls of obsidian.
She picked it up. It was first given to her by her wretched husband years ago when she was pregnant with Daena. Once Daena was born it was put in her crib. "It is tradition," Daemon told her.
"She won't need it anymore." Rhea thought as she examined the egg.
"Open the gates!" A guard yelled from the courtyard.
She was pulled from her thoughts by the voices outside. She walked back to the window and saw the red and black banners of House Targaryen flapping in the wind. "Finally." Rhea picked up her plum-colored skirt and ran downstairs. Rhea wasn't the most feminine woman and she preferred riding pants and her bronze armor but wanted to look more motherly when welcoming her daughter.
Just as she entered the courtyard her eyes fell upon the face of her only child. Daena smiled widely. "Mother!"
The little girl ran and hugged her mother's waist. "Welcome back, sweet girl," Rhea whispered to her daughter. She caressed Daena's round face and looked into her lilac-colored eyes. "I missed you."
"I missed you too, Mother." The girl said honestly, her little voice filled with emotion.
"Come on. Let's go inside. We have a lot to talk about." Rhea said softly and they, alongside Amanda went back into the castle.
For hours they talked until the sun finally set down and Rhea tucked Daena into bed and wished her a good night.

M.k x magic reader part 1
Tumblr media
Warning; mentions of abuse.
Also in this story Monkey king is still around. When M.k learns how to shrink himself. Enjoy!
You wrapped your hands panickedly as your magic burst from them in silver flames.
"No no no no. Conceal don't feel, conceal don't feel." (Yes frozen reference so sue me) you mumbled forcing yourself to breathe and relax.
Slowly the flames dwindled then vanished. You sighed in relief and started to finish wrapping your hands. The wraps helped you focus on keeping your powers hidden.
Your family hated you for your magic. Your father had beaten you for it, your sisters feared you, and you couldn't make friends because rumors would start at school about you secretly being a monster.
At the age of 16 you had ran away. For some reason this particular city seemed like home to you. The aura it gave off was vastly comforting. And your cousin Mei had been more than supportive about you leaving your family.
You'd stayed with them for a bit before you got a job at Pigsy's as a dish washer and custodian and got your own apartment. That was how you met M.k.
You two had talked quite a bit and he would make time to especially hang out with you. A heartwarming gesture since his time was so occupied. It seemed your world was finally improving. There was only one issue, your powers were growing. And you weren't sure how much longer you could hold them back.
"Y/n!" M.k shouted slamming your apartment door open.
You screamed in fright and jumped. Likewise your magic sparked and all of the lightbulbs near you exploded.
Luckily the sunlight filtering through your windows kept your living space illuminated well enough.
M.k froze in the doorway and frowned.
"Ohhh no no no! Y/n I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to- are you hurt?!" He dashed beside you in the time it took you to blink looking you over.
"Huh? Oh no, I'm fine." You flinched away from his touch worried your magic might shock him since your nerves were still on edge. "Just rattled is all. Heh heh. What did you need?"
M.k paused with a slightly hurt look when you flinched away from him.
"Are you sure you're ok?" He tilted his head a bit to the side with concern swimming in his eyes.
Guilt slammed your chest and you gave him a bright smile.
"I'm ok, really! And don't worry about the lightbulbs I have replacements." You knew M.k believed his powers had shattered them, and you felt guilty, but you just couldn't handle telling him. Not yet. The look of disgust on your father's face flashed behind your eyes, followed by your sisters' fear. You blinked away the images. No, not again. Not M.k. you couldn't take it.
"Oh yeah, heh guess I still don't know my own strength." M.k mentioned nervously looking up at the now empty sockets.
"It's alright." You stood dusting yourself off. "What was the hurry for?" You asked reaching for your broom.
"Huh? Oh! I unlocked a new mystical monkey power!" M.k jumped to his feet excitedly.
"Really?!" That's great!" You cheered offering him a grin. "Can ya show me?"
M.k nodded excitedly then promptly disappeared.
You flinched then looked around.
"M.k??"
"Down here!" A tiny voice yelled from the floor.
You dropped your gaze to the floor only to see a tiny M.k jumping up and down.
You grinned excitedly and clapped.
"That's awesome, M.k! You're getting so good!"
M.k returned to his normal size in a plume of smoke.
"I know isn't it great?! I can't wait to tell monkey king!"
You started to clean up the glass shards with the broom.
"Aren't you supposed to be at training right now?" You asked as you swept.
"O-oh yeah about that. I was...wondering if you'd like to.. come along?"
Your head snapped up from your chore.
"What?"
"W-well you always look so interested when I'm practicing and you've even given me pointers on a few things." M.k mentioned rubbing the back of his neck. "I just thought...I don't know. Maybe you'd like to see me training for real."
You studied M.k for a moment.
"Have you asked Monkey King?"
"Huh? Oh yeah actually I have. He wants to meet you." M.k stated with a smile. "Sooo?"
You smiled excitedly in return.
"I'd love to! When are we going?"
M.k grinned.
"Right now!" He grabbed your wrist and you left your apartment in a run.
At the mountain
M.k parted the waterfall with a single touch and your jaw dropped as the waters separated. You couldn't help but stare at the beauty of the cave inside the mountain as you both walked. Unfortunately you focused so much on the beauty you stumbled and nearly fell.
M.k caught you by the shoulders and you slammed against his chest.
You looked up ready to apologize only to see the Monkey King sitting on a rock behind M.k with a smirk.
"Watch your step love birds."
"Monkey King?!" M.k shouted whipping around startled.
He practically dropped you, and you had to catch your balance.
To which Monkey King snickered.
"So this is her huh?"
In an instant Monkey king was behind you looking you over with a hand to his chin.
You turned only to watch him walk a circle around you.
You fidgeted a bit uncomfortably.
"M.k mentioned me more than once?" You asked carefully.
Monkey King laughed outright making you jump slightly.
"'Mentioned' you? The kid can't shut up about you."
M.K's face turned crimson.
"Monkey King!" He shouted tensing up.
Monkey king only chuckled more then smirked at you.
"So you come to watch the kid train?" You nodded and Monkey King set some ground rules. Mostly they consisted of keeping your distance since the two of them 'played rough' as Monkey king put it.
You obeyed the rules and watched the training session. It really was mind blowing to see how the great Monkey King was able to control his powers almost thoughtlessly. Somehow you envied that. You envied M.k even more unfortunately. He had someone to help him. You had never had anything remotely similar to a mentor.
You wondered what must it be like to be able to protect others rather than hurt them, and to know yourself well enough to have control.
Soon, however, the training came to an end. Monkey King and M.k came back inside and chatted a bit before Monkey King made an odd suggestion.
"Hey kid I've got one last task for ya today. I need you to get to Pigsy's and see how fast you can get back here without using your staff."
"Ohoho yeah! On it!" M.k shouted before dashing off.
"Now then." Monkey King said turning to you with a serious look. "That will give us some time to talk."
Part 2
Something about the way Monkey King was looking at you, made you squirm where you sat.
"T-talk? About what?"
"I can see your magic, kiddo."
You froze and your heart stopped. In that moment, all of your fears slammed into you at once.
"H-how did yo-"
Monkey King tapped his temple.
"These golden eyes aren't just for show, kid. I can see things as they really are. And you practically glow with magic."
You stared at him for a moment feeling your hands start to shake. Didn't the Monkey King kill demons before? You weren't a demon but if he thought you'd hurt M.k- you'd never want to, but then you'd hurt people before by accident.
"Jeez kid don't look so horrified." Monkey King chuckled.
His gaze flicked to your trembling hands and his smile vanished.
"Whoa, whoa take it easy. I'm not gonna hurt ya. I just noticed your magic is kinda... overflowing."
As much as a relief as his words were the panic had done it's damage. Your magic started to press at your boundaries and you hugged your knees hurriedly in an attempt to keep the magic restrained.
"Conceal don't feel, conceal don't feel!" You chanted trying to relax. But your magic persisted. Finally your barriers broke. You heard Monkey King yell just before your world went dark.
Minutes later
Your ears were ringing when you came to. The world around you was blurry and unfocused.
"Y~n!" A muffled voice shouted.
"M.k?" You muttered blinking in an attempt to focus the blurs.
"Y/n!" M.k's voice sounded clear now and you could feel his hand on your shoulder. With a final blink the world came back into focus and all around you were black charred rocks.
Monkey King sat on his tail with his legs crossed.
"Are you alright?!" M.k asked checking you for damage.
"Huh?....yeah...yeah I'm ok. What happened?"
M.k whirled around to look at Monkey King.
"Yeah what happened?!"
Monkey King looked at you for a moment.
Suddenly the memories hit you as did a flood of guilt.
"Oh...oh I'm so sorry. I'm so so so sorry. Are you hurt?!"
M.k gave you a confused and concerned look but Monkey King only chuckled.
"Pft I'm fine. You just startled me that's all. But...I think you outta tell him."
M.k looked between you two clearly confused.
"Tell me what?" He questioned settling on staring at you.
Monkey King hopped up and walked away leaving you two alone.
"M.k I've been meaning to tell you something."
M.k nodded a bit listening.
"I'm not normal." You murmured. "I have powers, but I can't control them. That's why I ran away from home when I was younger." You hugged your knees close. "I'm dangerous, I blow up all the time and I can't stop it." Tears had begun to swim in your eyes as you stared at your knees. You could already see it in your mind's eye.
M.k glaring at you or backing away. You weren't sure which was worse.
"Y/n." M.k touched your shoulder.
You forced your gaze to meet his and were shocked to see him giving you a gentle smile.
"That's so cool! You're like me! Hey maybe Monkey King could teach you how to control your powers. And we could train together and maybe date - I mean-" M.k's face ignited into a crimson blush.
After the initial shock you offered him a smile.
"I'd like a date. But you'd have to ask Monkey King if he even could help me."
"Pfft." Monkey King scoffed from a nearby rock as he snacked on chips. "Teaching you would be easy, I just gotta do a little research on what exactly you are first, but uh don't you two work today?"
"Oh no!" You gasped.
"We gotta go bye!" M.k grabbed you and led the way out of the cave.
But this time you focused a little more on his grip around your wrist.

JESSIE RAYMOND JR. — summer prompts 🍋
Tumblr media
A/N: I say this every time, the fandom for all american and definitely HC is basically a ghost town up here and I really don’t get it. I’m here to provide a little something and then dip out again. I also guess it’s time for me to get into summer prompts although it’s still spring y’all lol. Anyways my goal is to try and make these short (didn’t happen!) before summer actually starts and I’m outside ;) so the small group of you that are out there on this site? Hope you like!
PROMPTS: 1.) “I know it’s hot but Jesus, put some clothes on!” + 2.) going fishing but only catching branches and seaweed From these two lists here.
WARNINGS: mostly fluff + “you” reader are given a name + you don’t mesh with Keisha welll in this one + friends having fun with each other basically but not without getting on each other’s nerves a little bit ofc.
SN: I’m just assuming ages here: JR = 20, Damon = 18/19?, you/reader = 19, Simone = 18/19, Keisha = 19, Nate = 20, Thea = 19/20?, Cam = 19 + I feel like Quvenzhané Wallis and Nate are siblings in my head so I casted her as “Morgan” in this.

To start off the summer season, Thea invited all of you out to her grandmother’s lake house for a week. Initially the tennis player suggested coming out the week after finals back in May but that plan fell through since most of you got caught up in your own tasks.
Simone was supposed to head out to California, wanting to spend time with baby Shay and her parents but something…or someone delayed her trip so she ended up staying with Auntie Amara for a little longer and booked to go back in July. Both Damon and JR were supposed to work down at this youth center for the summer, starting their training on different weeks but the week Damon was supposed to start, was when part of the building collapsed and ultimately pushed the mayor to finally give in and do the repairs.
Thankfully no person or child was hurt but they’ve been fighting for the longest to get some updates on that 1970’s building and the mayor always fibbed saying, “it just isn’t in the budget.” Yet there was no issue constantly throwing money around to throw these events for townsfolk that didn’t deserve it.
Full tea and shade!
JR wanted to help out with the repairs—or at least the cleanup portion but ultimately the head of the center placed him and Damon at another center to volunteer instead. Sure that worked out in JR’s favor since he wasn’t really in it for the money (sure the pay was decent, to have something in your pocket was always a plus, don’t get that twisted!) but he ended up feeling ill for a couple of days resulting in him stepping away from a great opportunity. Damon on the other hand? Stuck around for a little while longer, getting to know the kids and workers along with what this center entailed. Although he wouldn’t be catching the bag any time soon, he figured he still had time to see what he can do with his summer.
Keisha and Cam were spending their first half of the summer together, with him alternating between three houses. Yes, three! Thankfully he had his girlfriend but it’s not like he wanted to be all up on her with her dad back in town—and in the house especially. After their rocky ride this past semester, Cam wanted to see what this summer would bring for them both so he stuck around. Which you didn’t necessarily vibe with but you kept your mouth shut (for now) for the sake of your cousin. You were a Georgia native so it was no question that if Cam wanted to stay in the city more, there was always a open room in your household. And of course over this last semester, Cam and JR got closer—despite the fact that he was dating his cousin! They were will still cool at the end of the day.
As for Nate? Last you heard she was spending lots of time with their baby sister who was just as much as a mess of their older sibling—if not more, according to their social media.
Now here all nine of you are, inside of one of Thea’s grandmother’s vacation homes hoping for a good time. It was only your second day out here in this pale two-story Victorian home, that you personally wouldn’t have guessed would be any of the Mays’ taste but it’s not like you were complaining at all. If there was ever a chance to get away after that hellish semester, you were taking it this summer!
You leaned in the doorway of the upstairs main bedroom, arms lightly folded while pressing one sock covered foot over the other as you chatted away with Thea and Nate.
“Since I really didn’t expect eight of you to show up, it’s my duty as thee host to see what you all like for breakfast.” Thea bounced on her toes, long hair pulled up and away from her heart-shaped face with a claw clip.
Nate sent you a playful side eye before replying, “I honestly expected another post mates order or chef to be doing the honors, Thea. I can’t say I’m not a little gagged to be hearing this this morning.”
Thea fanned her hand at her friend, “please, if you all thought I was going to be in the kitchen when the majority of you showed up late last night, except for you, Willa, you’re all crazier than I thought.”
“Pleased to be of service.” You courtesy, pulling at the ends of JR’s shirt that you sported, which earned a light shove from Nate who rolled their eyes.
Thea clasped her hands with a soft smile, “yeah that’ll be the chef’s job tonight to cater to all your growling bellies so you better enjoy the work I’m putting in for breakfast.”
“Oh, Yes, ma’am.” Nate snapped their fingers before tapping on their chin, “I’m feeling like a egg’s Benedict, preferably with turkey bacon, I don’t mess with pork baby. Or maybe a frittata. What about you, Willa? What are you feeling like this morning?”
You were just rubbing at your eyes, still tired, since you were one of the ones out of the group that didn’t enjoy early mornings, “uh…a iced mocha latte with light ice and almond milk?”
“Almond milk?” Nate scrunched up their nose along with Thea who let out a deep sigh in disappointment, “we do oat milk over here.”
“Yeah well my gut doesn’t care for it so…” you lifted your shoulders with a shrug while the two gasped—like it was the most horrible news they heard this morning.
A form of hands wrapped around your waist, catching you off guard at first before you felt the scratch of his facial hair against your skin as he pecked a kiss to your cheek. Instantly you melted into JR’s frame as he spoke up, eyeing the two you were socializing with out in the hallway.
“My baby don’t need the oats, she’s already thick as it is.”
Nate tilted her head to the side eyeing the brown skinned boy that was all cuddled up this morning, “well, good morning to you too, JR.”
“We love to see the love in the air.” Thea commented making JR smile with a wink, hugging you tighter to his body.
“So what would like for breakfast? and please save us the urge to vomit by saying Willa’s name. Considering…” Nate motioned at JR with their fingers.
A frown suddenly appeared on your face at Nate’s words, making you lean to the side, peeking downwards at JR, making you deeply inhale.
“I know it’s hot but Jesus, put some clothes on!” You whispered yelled at JR who held no shame in his game, simply dressed in some black boxer briefs.
Thea held her hand out, blocking her view of the twenty year old, as JR shifted from behind you and began to flex.
“I mean there weren’t any complaints last night.”
You slapped a hand to your forehead, lightly flinching as you did so.
Nate laughed.
“Please tell me you two didn’t do the deed in my grandmother’s bed?!” Thea hissed at the two.
She was started to regret ever giving you two the main bedroom in the house. There were only three bedrooms and it was a tight squeeze with all nine of you (you and JR in the main bedroom, Keisha, Cam, and Simone in the second bedroom which consisted two twin beds, Damon in the office which actually had a daybed stuffed in one of the corners, and downstairs: Thea slept in one of the large living chairs, while Nate and Morgan slept on the pull-out couch) but Thea was determined to make it work.
JR immediately shook his head, “aye, no. We’re not that disrespectful.”
“Yeah, what kind of couple do you think we are? Keisha and Cam?” You snarked, making Thea cover her giggle with her four fingertips.
Nate let out a low whistle at that, patting at their scalp, knowing exactly how you felt towards the relationship but Keisha was also their old high school best friend. It was too early to get into it right now but if another comment flew…
Thea hummed, “well whatever, this is me telling you two not to get into any funny business. This is not a hotel. I’m gonna go tend to a simple breakfast downstairs, hopefully a hour or a hour in a half should be enough time for you to gather yourselves.”
And with that, Thea spun on her heels, fluffy slippers slapping down the wooden hallway as she made her exit.
“Let’s not act like granny Mays doesn’t have a cleanup crew on standby the second we clear out this place.” Nate muttered to the two, making them snicker.
Thea called from the first floor, “Nate! Come, we have to discuss SummerhouseMV.”
“Oo, that’s my cue! See y’all in a bit!” Nate bid their farewells.
Turning back to Jr, who held a faint dimpled grin on his face, you stepped into the room, squeezing his jaw as you gave him a warning glance, “I thought I told you that this,” you trailed your hand down his torso, enjoying that he shuddered at your mere touch, “is for my eyes only.”
JR smirked as you locked your arms around his neck, “my fault but…you did steal my shirt.”
You hummed, trailing your nose against his, then flicking your eyes to meet his, “why don’t you take it back then, Hm?”
JR licked his bottom lip, one hand pulling you flesh against his hips while the other pushed the door shut behind you, “don’t mind if I do, baby.”
Awhile later everyone eventually made their way downstairs to the main floor, ready to dive into the quick breakfast Thea prepared for you all. The breakfast was full of laughter and chatter until it was time to clean up then get dressed. On the agenda today was just to go across the street and spend the day at the lake, after all it was their first or second day out here—depending on who you ask (some were planning to leave that Saturday or Sunday) but regardless there was nothing wrong with starting off with relaxation.
“If y’all don’t get your asses off the damn boat,” Cam complained, using the back of his hand to wipe the sheen from his forehead after making his way back to the front of the house.
He found no other than you and Thea posing in one boat while Nate’s little sister, sixteen year old, Morgan was snapping away the pics with Thea’s phone.
Morgan eyed Cam up and down, scoffed while giving him the talk to the hand motion, gave Thea back her phone, before taking her leave to head back inside of the house and away from whatever Cam was on.
“Relax Cam,” you fanned the back of your neck, although you managed to get your butterfly locs up and out the way, “let us thrive.”
“I’m the host, I can do what I want. If I want to pose in this crappy boat my granddaddy had shoved away in the basement, I can. If I want y’all to carry me, you will.” Thea flicked out her bamboo folding fan, proceeding to stretch out.
Shaking your head at Thea, you slipped your shades back down over your eyes, fingertips on the edges of the boat, ready to climb out before cousin cam’s blood pressure began to raise.
“Oh yeah? How about I turn this boat into a bowling ball and toss y’all asses into the street, then you’ll really be playing in traffic.” Cam jabbed his thumb behind himself, earning a laugh from a approaching Keisha who walked over, enjoying Cam going off on both Thea and yourself.
Tilting your head to the side you responded, “Be forreal, Cam. You’re not about to throw nobody anywhere, especially me. Its never that serious and It’s too hot to be going back and forth with you and your dragon ass breath.”
Cam huffed, almost stalking forward and making Thea sit up in worry while Damon intervened. “C’mon bro, they’re clearly just messing around. Chill, we’re all family here.”
“It’s too hot for that,” Cam shoved Damon’s hand away from his chest, “and I’m not feeling like playin’ around, when we have to do all the work in this hot ass air.”
Take a shot every time someone says “hot,” today.
“You’re welcome to stay here if you’re going to keep up with this attitude.” Thea carefully climbed out of the boat.
“With you freezing us like it’s the damn North Pole? I rather stay out here in devil’s island.”
“Whoa…don’t tell us you’re some sort of satanist?” Damon questioned, taking a step back while also making Cam’s eye twitch.
“I’m not finna do this with y’all.” Cam pointed, “Let me know when you’re ready because I thought we were supposed to be across the road forty minutes ago.”
He stalked off to sit on the front steps of the house by the bags, snacks, and other accessories everyone was planning to bring to the lake.
Thea glanced down at her manicure, still fanning herself with her other hand, “What’s up his butt?”
You immediately glanced at Keisha who glared at you and now Damon who stared at her.
“What’re you guys looking at me for?”
“I mean you would know…he was fine yesterday.” You answered with a shrug of your shoulders.
Keisha turned her eyes into slits, “Some people just get aggravated in the heat…and cam woke up with a crick in his neck. That’s all I know, so maybe don’t continue spreading your hater energy around.”
“Hater?” You raised your brows before looking around confused, “what’s that?”
“I’m looking right at her.” Keisha scowled, placing her hand on her hip.
Rolling your eyes you ignored her by saying, “anyways…”
Thea shook her head at you two while Damon sent her a grimace before she raised her arms up in the air as everyone else began to pile out of the house, “finally! I’m all for being fashionably late people but come on! I’m a little bit with cranky cam on this one…the sun is only getting hotter and I need a serious dip in the water! Let’s go!”
“Girl it’s only 1pm. We have the entire day ahead of us.” Simone responds, stomping down the stairs.
You were expecting the two to go back and forth but it seemed like Thea and Simone were on good terms for this trip so far. It was a love and hate thing with those two so you weren’t sure how long the love would last.
A brief breeze went by along with the humid atmosphere, making you take a small but thick swallow as it tickled your nose a bit. Exhaling you reached into your Jean shorts pocket, pulling out a tissue before you walked off to cater to your sinuses.
“Babe! You good?” JR called out to you from behind.
The post nasal drip was not as bad today but certainly still lingering around. After clearing your nose out you spun back around, your eyes meeting JR’s who stood some distance from you; now holding onto one end of the boat while Damon held onto the other.
Giving a thumbs up you nodded, “yeah, I’m fine. You?”
JR was in the bathroom for a minute this morning, playing it off as a bad decision to eat cookout so late due to his and Damon’s arrival last night. Something inside of you felt like that wasn’t a hundred since JR’s been sick a couple of weeks back way before he started at the center, so of course you wanted to make sure he was okay and not just a case of the bubble guts.
Just like he wanted to make sure the same with you. You had surgery to remove some nasal polyps almost two weeks ago and was stuck with some prescribed nasal sprays.
Ain’t no thing.” JR shrugged his shoulders with a gleaming grin, appearing so handsome.
“Alright then,” you clasped your hands together turning your attention to the girls that gathered their own bags from the steps, “let’s roll!”
“Hey!” Thea cut in, jumping down onto the front lawn after locking the house, “that’s my line.”
Raising your hands as you walked by the glaring bronzed skin girl, you gave wide eyes to Simone who sucked her teeth at Thea’s antics.
Soon everyone began lugging their items down the stone steps towards the sidewalk, leaving You behind as you began digging your bag in search of hand sanitizer and your medicine. Bringing the spray into your left nostril, you sprayed more of it on that side since that side gave you more trouble due to the size of the growth that was inside.
“C’mon Lisa Zemo.” Cam called out to you, still standing on the lawn where he stood with Nate, carrying the second boat towards the other set of stairs.
Tossing the medicine back into the bag, you hauled it onto your shoulder and spun back around, giving a middle finger to the dark skinned boy, “I’ll let that one slide. Look at you Cam, getting your lick back. I’m proud.”
“I’m the best clap back king at this crib, please act like you know.” Cam tossed in over his shoulder.
Nate sent you a look, peering up from their phone as you stood beside them. Silently they handed their phone over for you to hold in your much bigger purse for them. Passing through the empty parking spot by the curb, you halted watching the street before you crossed the first section. The other street that had cars going west ended up being more hectic to cross, leaving the three standing there for a good two minutes before they all made it across to the greenery that awaited them.
“Uh uh, what are y’all about to do with that?” Keisha asked the boys who gathered up their equipment.
Damon grinned, “We’re going fishing so we can make dinner tomorrow. You’re welcome.”
Keisha pointed as she lounged on her elbows on a towel, “in this lake?”
“We can just go out to this upscale seafood place instead. That was supposed to be Wednesday’s plan for brunch but things can be rearranged.” Thea told the boys as she finished spraying her sunscreen.
“Y’all can just sit back and let us work. Don’t worry about it, we got it.” Damon reassured.
Simone scoffed, pushing up from her squatting position, “oh no. You don’t get to tell us what we as women should do, what if we want to fish?”
“Oh nah, I didn’t mean it like that—
Damon started.
“Um, I don’t really want to do that so I’m completely fine swimming and tanning so no thanks. Have at it, k? Bye.” Thea kept her cover-up on as she walked to the waterline.
Keisha laughed but stopped short as Simone turned her glare towards her. “Yeah I’m kinda with thea on this one. It’s not for me.”
Simone asked, “Have you ever tried?”
“No and I don’t plan to.” Keisha tossed herself back onto the towel.
Simone turned her attention to Nate’s little sister, seeing her laying on her side turned away from the group, “hey, Morgan.”
“Girl no.” Morgan stated, “I’m napping.”
“I can see you scrolling Twitter!”
“That’s that heat getting to your eyesight. What do they call it? A mirage? Yeah that’s probably what you’re experiencing, I’ll pray for you.” Morgan spoke with a yawn.
Which earned a look of disbelief on Simone’s face while everyone else laughed at the teen’s words.
Soon you, Nate, and Cam made your way to the group’s set up. The two places the boat next to the one Damon and JR carried just as Simone smiled at you.
“Willa! We’re going fishing!” Simone looped her arm with yours, just as you placed your things by Thea’s towel.
You debated, “sitting in the scorching Georgia sun hunting fish or go swimming? Hm I don’t know.”
Making a scale with your hands you dropped them, raising the swimming above your head while JR smirked at you.
“I heard from Willa’s grandpappy that she used to catch all the fish with him back in the day.” The man started before saying, “Makes sense since she’s quite the catch herself.”
Cam gagged, “and you my brother, are quite corny.”
Which earned snickers from the rest.
“Leave my man alone.” You swatted at Cam who walked by to place his own towel between Keisha and a “sleeping” Morgan.
Simone poked you, “Sooo what do you say?”
“I say we should leave Ariel’s family where they belong.” You poked the doe-eyed beauty back.
Keisha commented, “I mean can you even go swimming? Considering the whole nostril issues you’re having? Fishing might be your best bet.”
Simone secretly thought about this but also knew how it came across.
“I don’t need your fake concern, thanks.” You snapped at Keisha who remained stretched out and in peace.
“Hey, I’m just saying! We don’t need any special ER trips on this vacation, it’s supposed to be fun. It’s summer after all and we don’t need anybody ruining it.”
“Then why don’t you shut the hell up?”
Oh yeah, that Watkins energy was flaming right about now.
“Aye, c’mon now. That’s not what we’re here for.” JR tried to ease the tension while Simone sighed at you two.
She wished the both of you could just be cordial—like her and Layla!
“Fine,” you forced a smile on your lips, “anything to get away from this funkiness.”
Simone shushed you on your way by as you stood on the side of the boat, watching the two brother’s as damon tended to one of the rods and JR checked on the live bait.
“Hand me a hook, Simone.” You directed the girl who stood on the opposite side of the boat.
Damon quickly spoke up as he noticed JR eyeing him, “Uh, I’ll take care of that since I already started on this one and not because y’all aren’t capable.”
Simone humphed as she crossed her arms at the bucket hat wearing eighteen year old.
“Cam, Nate? What y’all doing?” JR looked over at the two.
Nate turned on their mini portable fan from beside Morgan as they looked out at the lake. “That fishing mess is not for me. I’ll be right here tending to my bundles and maybe I’ll take a dip in the lake later, to see which white boy is flirting with miss. thea.”
“Bundles?” Cam asked not caring one bit who thea chose to flirt with, “I know you did not bring your hair out here.”
“And what about it, Cameron?” Nate turned to the braided boy, shaking the hair out as if they were fanning themselves with it.
Cameron blew air out his lips, “imma mind my business. I’ll be in the water, y’all.” He pressed a kiss to Keisha’s temple before he hopped up, chucked up the deuces and jogged away to the water.
“Guess that’s our answer, let’s go ladies.” Damon lifted the boat along with JR, who led the way.
Simone was on competing mode, which Damon found humorous on their side of the boat—while also riling her up just a tad. As the four of you got comfortable on the boat, which happened to be a great distance from where all the water sports activities were occurring up ahead, you found yourself seated right beside your boyfriend, thighs touching as JR was on DJ duty.
His portable Bluetooth sat in the middle of the boat while he tended to his phone that was on shuffle, currently playing some old Drake.
On the edges of the boat sat the rods, floating on waiting for something to catch the bait. The sun was beaming down, darkening each of their pretty hues but the water and being by each other was all the company they needed.
“Hey,” you whispered to JR who was quick to meet your eyes.
Your eyes told him you were okay but a nudge of your head, silently made him aware what you were going to do.
Pulling your left eye graphic t-shirt over your head, you yanked the hot pink dolphin shorts off and jumped over the side of the boat.
“The hell?! Did she just fall?!” Simone quickly looked over her shoulder, breaking out of her banter with Damon, now on full alert for her friend.
JR glanced over to see you re-emerge, brushing the water from your face as a blissful smile split onto your face.
JR responded as he pulled his own shirt off, leaving himself in his initial necklace and trunks, “Nope. Just livin’ life.”
Before he jumped into the water as well.
He latched onto you as you swam along, all smiles as the music played on, staring into each others eyes and happy to be in the arms of the one you love.
Another splash sounded from behind you, revealing Simone who floated on her back with a smile of her own, “I was wrong. The water is the much better choice. My bad guys.”
“You’re forgiven.” You teased the girl.
JR called out to Damon as you wrapped your legs around his waist, “C’mon bro, you’re the only one left, get in here!”
“What about the fish?”
“Man, forget all that!”
Damon sighed as he tossed his hat to the side along with his shirt, “y’all owe us dinner tomorrow.”
“Damon! Damon! Damon!” The three of you splashed, waiting for the boy to take a dive.
Once he hit the water, he snuck up behind the three, full of laughter as he caught them off guard.
Being in the water for what felt like hours with your boyfriend and good company provided just the freeing fresh start of summer that you needed.
“Hey, we lost sight of you guys.” Keisha greeted you guys, hair slightly damp as she tossed grapes into her mouth.
Thea smiled at the four who made their way over, “must have caught a lot to be out there for so long.”
“Let’s see it!”
“Oh, y’all aren’t ready.” Simone sassed, a glint in her eye as she looked back at you who let out a small laugh.
Damon lifted up one bucket while Jr held the other, “Might be our biggest catch yet.”
“Stop with the suspense and show us!” Nate yelled, now standing.
“Alright, y’all asked for it.” JR shrugged with a smile as he followed Damon to stand in front of the group.
The two brother’s both dipped their heads before they lifted their buckets and tipped it over, emptying its contents.
“What the hell is this?” Cam sucked his teeth.
Morgan peeked up from her phone, “I know they lying.”
In front of them sat pounds of seaweed mixed with some branches.
“You guys were out there all this time and didn’t catch a damn thing? What a waste of time.” Keisha clicked her tongue, “I’m glad I didn’t go.”
Although the rest of the group didn’t exactly get it, stamping it as nothing but to past the time, Simone, Damon, you, and Jr understood what that bonding moment meant as you all shared a brief group hug.
Thea did the honors of snapping a picture with her Polaroid just before you all let go.
Lounging beside Jr, you felt the air starting to calm down but that didn’t stop you from putting some more drops up your nose. As you lay your head on JR’s shoulder, the both of you stared up into the periwinkle sky with specs of pink cotton candy forming in the middle.
His warm hand slipped up to intertwine with yours as he croaked out, “did you have a good day?”
“It’s always a good day with you,” you stared down at your conjoined hands, “wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“I love you, baby.”
You smiled, angling yourself to place a kiss along JR’s jaw, “I love you too, Jessie.”
And his smile matched yours, sparking hope that there’ll be more summers like these.

i’ve got a bit of a personal issue that i need advice on, i’ve spoke to my boyfriend about it obviously but i just need other people’s opinion…
so my family went no contact with us when i was young, my mums whole family havent spoken to me since she died almost 15 years ago (we hate them) and my dads brother who was like another father to me (who this situation involves).
my uncle moved to spain almost 10 years ago and i havent spoken to him since, ive spoken to my little cousin (you remember the footballer one?) but not as much as id like to. myself and my uncle were so close to the point i was at his house every day as a kid, right up until he moved. our last proper conversation apart from the odd happy birthday or merry Christmas was about him coming to visit me whenever he comes back to england. now it’s important to know that him and my dad have never had the best relationship, it’s really toxic to the point if he turned up at my house now, my dad would flatten him. now over the past few months, since i was in spain for that work trip (i was literally staying in the same city that he lives!), i’ve been wanting to reach out and try to rebuild that bond i had with him yet im hesitant because he didn’t keep his promise to see me, and i haven’t seen or spoken to him since the day before he moved.
i guess i’m just scared that it’s not going to go down well with my family because he comes to england and only visits his dad, not even my nanna who is the purest human in the world. it’s also important to note that his biological dad abandoned him and my dad when they were really young, and my dad has no relationship with him (there’s a connection there to the monster my sister dated too but that’s where things get really messed up!).
i’ll be honest, i’m fucking terrified that if i contact him and start to rebuild the bond we had when i was a kid, my family would start to stop speaking to me (it’s not beyond them, trust me). i’m just in a predicament because i want to do this but i don’t want to make anyone upset or uncomfortable, i just don’t want to risk them hating me for it 🥲
i know my family sounds complicated and messed up, imagine how it is for me trying to wrap my head around it. i can’t complain too much because so many people have it worse than me 🫶🏼
sorry for the little personal dump, i just need some advice that isn’t my boyfriends “i’ll punch him” 😂

Tonight is gonna be the loneliest
Hi guys! I'm finally done with this fic and I wanted to share it with you. SPOILERS if you haven't read Chain of Thorns. It's a 4K one shot divided into three POVs (Eugenia's, Gabriel's and Cecily's) and it's about how the TID gang found out what happened in London and that Kit had passed away, especially his parents. This fic was hard to write because of its emotional content. I hope you enjoy it, although it deals with tough themes like grief/mourning. The song to go along with his fic is "The Loneliest" by Maneskin. Read it on A03 💙
Eugenia knew, when her cousins tasked her to be the bearer of bad news to their parents, that they wouldn’t be easy to deliver. She hated this whole situation. She trusted James and the others. They had proved they could fix this mess. Still, she feared for their life, especially her brother’s. She didn’t even try to reason with Thomas, because she already knew he wouldn’t oblige and come with her, even if she was the older sister looking after his well-being, and she knew she could have forced him to come with her if she wanted. She didn’t try to argue with Anna either, since she’d always been independent in her choices and she knew even she couldn’t shake her resolve to fight with the others to save all of them. After all, it was her younger brother who had been killed. Eugenia was aware that Anna wouldn’t let the possibility to avenge him go that easily. If she had been in her position - only thinking about it made her shudder with pain - she knew she would have stayed too, hoping to deal at least one blow to their enemies. It wouldn't have brought Christopher back, but it would’ve made feel better.
Eugenia had hope. Yet, the first thing that hit her when they walked through the portal was that this could be the last time she would ever see everyone, and she wanted to cry. And she did shed a few tears while she walked alongside the rest of shadowhunters who had decided it was best to go back to their homeland, and give up on London forever. Cowards. But she couldn’t blame them. Being a shadowhunter didn’t mean being courageous.
She saw the towers of Alicante looming in the distance, and after they walked past the entrance to the city of Idris, she knew where they were headed. She wasn’t walking that far from Charles, who also tasked himself with being the leader in this expedition back home. She thought expedition wasn’t a good term to describe what they were doing. They had been banished, exiled. Charles told them they would take Kit’s body to the Basilias, the shadowhunter’s hospital in the city, and they would wait for the Silent Brothers to take him elsewhere and ready him for his funeral. Eugenia didn’t know how he could be so calm and could utter the word funeral and Christopher at the same time, but she didn’t have the strength to correct him. After all, it was the truth.
The city was eerily silent, but she thought that perhaps most of the shadowhunters were meeting at the Gard. They had, after all, to trial her uncle Will and aunt Tessa with the Mortal Sword. They came from the East entrance, and they were just passing the Gard when some shadowhunters spilled out of it, and Eugenia’s hands started to tremble.
“Is my mother inside? It’s important,” Charles asked someone she didn’t know. The man replied that they were done with the meeting and that she would probably be out soon. The man, whom she recognized from the Hardcastle family, looked at the lot of them with a frown until he spotted someone in their group and went to talk to them, likely for an explanation.
Eugenia was glad she wouldn’t have to repeat her tale to everyone. She sighed, and caught Charles looking at her as some known faces had just come out of the Gard. She saw the Herondales first, hand in hand and with a relieved expression on their faces. The trial had probably gone well. They were flanked by their usual companions: aunt Charlotte patted uncle Will’s shoulder with a satisfied grin, and beside her, she saw her father Gideon wearing the same smile. She hated to be the one to ruin their mood, but it couldn’t be helped. She walked toward them as her uncle Gabriel came out, and blocked their path along with Charles.
“Eugenia? What are you doing here?” her father asked, as everyone stopped abruptly on the stairs of the Gard, equally surprised to see them there. “And Charles,” he added, before Charlotte could speak. She glanced behind them, noticing their group of shadowhunters scattered in front of the building. Noticing the bier.
“Has something happened in London?” Will asked, his voice laced with worry.
“Yes, Eugenia. Do please tell us,” Charlotte prompted with a calm demeanor, but she could tell she was restless too. “Or Charles. Please.”
Eugenia sighed. She looked at all of the people gathered before her, and thought she really wanted Charles to do it, but there was a reason her cousins had asked her. They trusted she would know what to say, unlike Charles. And they trusted her to calm their parents down, if needed, and instill some reason in them, in spite of the fact that James and the others had most likely sentenced themselves to death. She didn’t want to think about it.
“Belial took London,” she started with the easiest thing to say. “He took London and banished the city from the rest of the world, rendering the mundanes like automatons,” she said. Her relatives started to say something, but she shushed them. “James made a bargain with him,” she didn’t dare to look at Will and Tessa. “He said that he would let him possess his body, in exchange for letting us all return to Idris and live our life.”
“He did what?” Will asked with fury, as someone behind them turned to see what the ruckus was about. He was ready to descend the stairs to go back to London, but his wife stopped him.
“Please, let Eugenia finish, William,” Charlotte said, trying not to get angry too. Eugenia saw how she was inspecting the people behind her, obviously looking for her other son. “What happened, after? Surely, you’re all back here now, as it should be reasonable?”
Eugenia bit her lip nervously. “Everyone decided to stay in London,” she confessed. “Because they think that can save the city.”
“That’s a reckless idea,” uncle Gabriel said. “How do they think they can do that by themselves? We should go back too, and help them.”
“I’m afraid it’s not possible,” Charles said with bitterness, speaking for the first time after meeting their relatives. “Belial closed the portal that led us here. There is no way for them to come or for us to go back. They’re trapped there. They’re going to die just like—”
She really wanted to punch Charles in the face for being so negative about it. She was glad he had stopped before he would say they were going to die like Kit. She knew she had to tell them soon, but she was trying to ration the pain she would have to inflict them. She glared at Charles. “I believe in them,” she managed to say. “They’re the only ones who can do something.”
“I’m enraged James had to offer himself to that demon,” Will said. “And that Lucie stayed behind to go along with this plan,” she could see tears in his eyes.
“Genie, I can’t believe you didn’t try to convince your brother,” Gideon said, “but I know he’s stubborn,” he shook his head.
She was about to say something when Tessa spoke. She had been silent the whole time, speaking in hushed words to calm Will down, and seemingly distracted when Charles was about to blurt out that Kit was dead. Tessa had been focused on the bier, which had been kept hidden and forgotten by the throngs of shadowhunters and their families learning of the tale of what happened in London, but she had been listening. Unlike the others, who were focused on the dire news about their children, Tessa caught Charles’ words. Everyone assumed that they were all safe, just not there, but Eugenia felt like Tessa already noticed something was off.
“Charles,” she spoke softly, “I see you brought a bier with you, from London,” she managed a neutral expression without sounding too worried. “Did somebody get hurt in London?”
Charles’s mouth gaped open, and it seemed like, in the moment of truth, he didn’t know what to say. “I –” he stuttered. “It’s —”
“Who is it, Charles?” Will prodded, already enraged and desperate as it was. “Is it one of our –”
For a moment, they all looked at the bier, since not everyone had seen it, and then at Charles and Eugenia, begging for answers. She could sense the change in the air, raw with unspoken tension and panic. It was Eugenia who answered. She had delayed the bad news too much.
“I’m sorry, uncle Gabriel,” she finally said, glancing at him. “It’s –” but she couldn’t finish. Her uncle had already run off the stairs, directed to the bier, everyone following in his footsteps with shock and anxiety etched on their faces. His hands were trembling as he slowly removed the white cloth on Kit’s face. Eugenia and Charles stood helplessly watching as he stood in disbelief in front of his son’s body, unable to move for an entire minute.
Gabriel felt someone’s hand on his shoulder and he blinked to adjust to the light. He hadn’t realized how long he had been holding his son’s hand, holding his gaze on his pale, long fingers, the Lightwood family ring still on his fourth finger — the finger with the vein of love. He hadn’t noticed that he’d reached out for it and squeezed his fingers, to look for vital signs in the slightest nook of his body. The shock of seeing him there, still as a statue, hadn’t stopped from him checking his son’s pulse. Even though someone had covered Christoper’s eyes with a white strip of linen, and his skin had turned into an ashy shade, Gabriel couldn’t tear his hands from his older boy. The boy he loved so much and that was too young to die.
In the throng of shadowhunters talking around him about what they’d just learned from London, Gabriel’s ears tuned to listen to Kit’s breath. He automatically put his head on his chest, his fingers on his throat, and under his nose. Maybe they’d been wrong. Maybe – someone gently put a hand over his, shaking him from his reverie, from his robotic first aid behavior. “Brother, please. Please, stop.” It was Gideon’s voice. His brother.
He blinked again, and shook his head. In tuning out everything else, it hadn’t occurred to him that he started crying, and his vision was now blurry. “No,” he said firmly, without tearing his hand from Kit’s chest. “No,” he repeated, his voice broken by sobs. Gideon circled him in an embrace, and Gabriel put his head on his shoulder. He could hear the sound of muffled cries around him now, but he wouldn’t dare to take his eyes off Christopher’s body.
Everything happened in a blur, after. He could barely register Charlotte’s voice as she told him that they would take Kit to the Basilias first. “He can’t stay here,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady even though it was also her voice that was broken by the sobs. “We need to shelter him from the cold.” Charlotte also loved Kit like a son, and he knew how she must feel, but at the same time, she wouldn’t understand. She hadn’t lost a son. But Gabriel wouldn’t budge.
“Let’s go together, brother,” it was Gideon’s voice, his older brother's soothing voice. “We need to take him away from this ruckus.”
People started to gather around them and offered their condolences as they stood still by the bier, but he wouldn’t hear them, he wouldn’t listen to anyone. It was like he was alone with his pain, and Christopher, who looked very much as if he was sleeping. He was aware of Gideon and his other friends around him, trying to make him reason that it was better to take Kit inside. But there was nothing reasonable about the death of a boy in his prime.
Eventually, he didn’t know how he found the strength to push the bier, and start walking North, to the shadowhunter hospital. He recalled Gideon’s presence beside him, his nephew Eugenia by her father’s side, and the rest of them – Charlotte, Will and Tessa, on the other side. Charles had disappeared at some point, but he was so very dazed and shell-shocked that it could’ve been the angel Raziel following after their small group, he wouldn’t have cared.
At last, their procession arrived at their destination. Silent Brothers took Christopher’s body in the funeral chamber, or what Gabriel thought was that. Dead people were taken to the Silent City, but the current situation didn’t allow that. He thought: my son can’t even get a proper burial, and vowed that he would at least give him that after they could go back to London. If they could ever go back. He didn’t want to let go of his boy, but Jem was there, and he trusted Jem to take good care of Kit.
We will look after Christopher, Jem told them, informing them that he would tell them when his body would be ready. We will see that he receives the best of care.
Gabriel had barely nodded, and felt the urge to punch a wall. No one said anything when he was about to do so, and no one tried to stop him when he started bawling again. It was an ugly cry, a stronger cry that stood out above all of the rest from his friends and family.
Charlotte left at some point, because there were Consul matters she had to attend to. She assured Gabriel that she wouldn’t tell about Kit’s passing until he was ready, and would fight those who had witnessed their earlier scene at the Gard and found out about his passing. She didn’t want Cecily to learn about it through someone else. Gabriel had nodded absentmindedly, and soon after, a Silent Brother informed them that they could see him if they wanted. He didn’t hesitate. Even though his heart had been shattered already, he wanted to see him one last time. He needed… How he wished this would be a nightmare.
“I can tell Cecily,” Will offered when they got to the Lightwood’s mansion in Idris. Cecily had decided to stay with Alexander while Gabriel and the others went to Will and Tessa’s trial with the Mortal Sword. Sophie had decided to keep her company, at least she wouldn’t be alone. He knew that his brother-in-law meant well, but he shook his head.
“No,” he said firmly. “I have to tell her,” he sighed. “Even though it hurts me.” They could hear chatter and giggles from the outside. It was probably Alexander’s dinnertime. Gabriel wished he could go back in time and be a child again. Free from all trauma, pain, and guilt, and shame. But then it wouldn’t be the same. He wouldn’t have his family, he wouldn’t have his heart.
Gideon opened the door to Gabriel and Cecily’s house, and they all strolled silently inside. As he suspected, Alexander was eating his dinner at the dining room table. He was alone with Sophie, who was laughing and chanting to him to make eating funnier. When he saw his father, he beamed at him. “Papa!” he giggled happily. Gabriel reached him in two strides and hugged him tightly while the child protested.
“I love you, Alex,” he said with a gentle voice, and with tears pooling in his eyes. “Do you know that, right?”
“I love you too,” he mused, “but now let me go. I’m eating dinner with aunt Sophie! I’m starving!”
That seemed to brighten the mood a little. Everyone laughed, but Sophie caught the tension in the room. Once Alexander went back to eating, she glanced at the little group with a frown. “I don’t like your faces,” she commented, raising from her chair to go to Tessa, who was closest to her. “Do tell me about it.”
“We’ll fill her in,” Gideon said to Gabriel, “you do what you have to do, brother. Are you sure you don’t want me?”
“I have to do this on my own,” Gabriel declared. “But I know you’ll be here. I appreciate your support. I don’t think I could’ve made it today on my own without you.”
“We’ll be here unless you kick us out,” said Will. “And even if you kick us out, we’ll stay.”
Gabriel managed a smile and tried to keep his tears at bay. He knew he had to go to Cecily now. He needed to tell his wife that their son was no more. He hoped he had the strength, or he would have to find it during the short trip upstairs.
Cecily glanced at the grandfather’s clock on the wall of her bedroom. It was past their dinner time, and Gabriel still hadn’t returned from the Gard. She declined to go to her brother’s trial when her husband asked. “It’s not that I don’t care,” she replied, “my brother will understand why I’m not present,” she told him. Even if Cecily didn’t tell Gabriel what was the real reason she didn’t want to go, she was sure he understood.
After Tatiana had kidnapped their younger son Alexander, she didn’t trust to be outside alone with him. Sure, there would be her husband with her, and her relatives. But she wouldn’t feel safe again. Not yet, at least. She knew that woman was still at large, and being herself a shadowhunter, it wasn’t completely insane to think that she could enter Alicante and finish what she started. Fool everyone. Ruin everyone’s life with her wrath. Cecily had pitied the woman, felt sorry that she had to go through losing her husband and her son, but now she thought she was past redemption, past forgiveness. Tatiana had crossed the threshold of sanity, and Cecily thought the only place fit for her would be a jail cell, or worse. She didn’t like to hold any grudges, but she realized that the only way to quell her fear and anxiety about her loved one’s safety would be if Tatiana were six feet underground.
Cecily was aware that she could be in danger even if she stayed behind the walls of her house, but at least she would feel safer and keep her guard up. It would be harder to keep her guard up in public, with all of the distractions, and she was in a room full of people the last time Tatiana tried one of her tricks, and none could do anything.
Sophie showed up when Gabriel left. She knew he had probably asked her to keep her company, and of that, she was grateful. Cecily trusted her son with her family, and although she still felt uneasy at the thought of leaving Alex with someone who wasn’t her or Gabriel, she knew that she needed to take a few hours to take a breather and regroup, or else she would crumble.
She occasionally checked on Sophie and Alex while she did the chores she had to do, but as she expected, the duo was okay and they looked like they were having fun. She had the time to wash her hair, check the pantry for food, and change the bed. Some of these things, Gabriel also did. But Gabriel got hurt a week before, because of the fight at the entrance of the London Institute, and some things she delayed and forgotten. She was in emotional distress, but she had to try and react. It didn’t matter. They would have time to do those things, but now –
The door opened, and Gabriel walked slowly inside. She was folding some laundry, and the first thing she noticed were his red-rimmed eyes. “Don’t tell me they want to kick out Will and Tessa from the London Institute,” she was angry, but Gabriel shook his head.
“No, on the contrary,” he answered swiftly, but this didn’t ease Cecily’s worry.
“There’s something wrong,” she said with a sigh, squeezing Gabriel’s arm. At that, he nodded, and didn’t try to hide his tears. Gabriel wasn’t a crier. He only cried on a few occasions, and this panicked Cecily. The situation must be dire, for him to cry like that. “Gabriel,” she urged him. “Please, tell me what’s wrong. Put me out of my misery, would you?”
“I’m sorry, Cecy, I’m really sorry,” he started, more tears running free and covering his red cheeks. “Our boy Kit, he – he didn’t make it.”
“Don’t be silly, Gabriel,” Cecily said hysterically, pacing back and forth in front of him, “Christopher is safe in London, and we’ll be there –”
“We can’t go back to London, Cecy,” he revealed. “Belial has closed all of the portals that lead to London, and we’re trapped here. The kids stayed behind, in London.”
“So you mean that Kit and Anna can’t return for the time being? That’s what you’re saying?”
“Anna stayed in London,” he said calmly. “Kit is here…” his voice trailed off, “at the Basilias. I’m sorry, Cecy,” he sighed, his face resigned. “They couldn’t do anything to save him.”
“You can’t be joking about something so serious,” she started yelling, the yell mixed with tears, pointing her finger at her husband, punching his chest. “You can’t be telling me that my precious son is dead!”
Gabriel didn’t answer, he just wept in front of her like a child, and Cecily knew he wasn’t playing. He would never joke about their children. Her legs gave out, and she fell on the rug. She had vowed and hoped to never hear those words while she lived, and the thought made her chest ache with pain. It hurt, it hurt so much, and her hand touched the left side of her chest, where her heart was supposed to be. A piece of heart had just been carved out of her chest when he had uttered those few words, and she didn’t know if she could be whole again.
She couldn’t believe it was true. Her pretty boy with lilac eyes and with a good heart — She felt her husbands’ arms around her at once, trying to soothe her, trying to soothe his pain – she didn’t know. She didn’t know anything anymore.
She wasn’t sure how long had passed until they were on that rug, in each other’s arms, trying to give each other strength. Maybe it had been minutes, if not hours. Christopher’s smile, his last smile to her, she realized with agony, when they left for Idris, haunting her. A smile that would haunt her dreams in which she wished this was just a nightmare.
“Please, Gabriel,” Cecily said, her voice rough from crying. “Get me Alex. Please.”
Gabriel hadn’t asked why she wanted her smallest child with her. She knew that she would know why she needed him. Why did she want to hug him tightly and kiss his chubby face until he’d be sick of it and complain. She knew that Gabriel would do anything she asked. He wasn’t surprised when he found her in the middle of their bed, her hair a mess, her expression vacant. A picture in her hands. She already missed their boy. She lit up when she saw baby Alexander, who was rubbing his eyes, sleepy.
“He fell asleep on your brother’s shoulder. He’s here with Tessa and the others,” Gabriel explained. “When I told Alex we were going to mama, he tried to keep his eyes open on the way.”
“Thank them for being here,” she said mechanically, without emotion. Cecily managed a tight smile, only for Alex. “Come here,” she told the child.
“But you said I can’t sleep on your bed,” Alex protested, but jumped on the bed anyway, sitting next to his mother.
“It’s just for tonight, darling,” she patted his head lovingly, and hugged him. “I want to be alone with him,” Cecily told her husband, “Please,” and he respected her decision. Once Gabriel left, she started to cry again, but this time, she needed to be alone.
She woke up with a start when the door of the bedroom clicked open, and Gabriel entered. She hadn’t realized she had fallen asleep, but she did. She was tired, but her mind was restless. She locked eyes with Gabriel, after he crawled into bed next to little Alex. He caressed her cheek, a simple gesture with which she knew that he loved her and was worried about her. And Cecily was worried about him too. They did, after all, lose their beloved child. They didn’t speak, just stared into each other’s eyes, companions sharing the same unspeakable pain of losing someone they both loved. And that didn’t ease the heartache, but it helped them cope a little.
“I just want to know how it happened,” Cecily said at some point, one thought among the ones that weren’t letting her sleep come easily that night. “Was it an accident, or –”
Gabriel heaved an audible sigh, and when he did, Cecily realized why. “It was Tatiana,” his tone was bitter, full of hate. “With a poisonous knife.”
Cecily snorted. “Well, I hope that wherever she is, she dies a painful and slow death,” she said fiercely, full of rage.
“She’s dead, Cecy,” he said with detachment. She knew he had stopped talking about Tatiana as his sister and as someone who could be forgiven, after she kidnapped Alexander. “Cordelia killed her.”
“That’s too bad,” she said with spite. “I wish I could have killed her myself.”
And in the darkness of their bedroom, Gabriel, too, wished he could have killed Tatiana.

today i shall talk about....
*spins wheel of headcanons*
chinese marc with a side of marinette & marc cousin theory (stay tuned for my alternate hispanic marc theory) (and a shot of spoilers regarding the character Socqueline if you haven't seen season 5 episode Jubiliation yet)
so whenever i make this boy chinese in my stories, i have two options
1, make this green eyes fella the cousin to this blue-eyed half-french girl
which would mean that he is also half-Shanghainese half-something else as Sabine aka Xia Bing and her (twin?) sister Shu Yin both no longer live in Shanghai and seemingly haven't long enough to get settled into their respective countries
Shu Yin (i tend to westernize her name as Susan WHEN i westernize it) lives in London and as my uk friends have told me, its a bigger city than you might expect, so the chances of Shu Yin knowing Amelie Graham de Vanily personally are low, but she might know OF the family
if Shu Yin had her own child in London, then her kid is English-Shanghainese and likely still in England
if the sisters got to France together and stayed near each other for a while, then Shu Yin's child would be half-french and if Shu Yin broke up with the father and they had shared custody or just the father had custody (which... i admit is more of an american thing) then Marc could be the child and could be living with his father in france at least part of the time
and this WORKS but i'm not always happy with it which brings us to
2, Marinette, Socqueline, and Marc are all half-french half-chinese teens, whose mothers are all friends because they're in a support group for chinese expats
and the teens grew up together but were unrelated because china is so friggin huge and they could be any ethnic group of china
this allows for a more varied appearance between the kids and lets marc's darker skin tone seem more natural since he and Marinette honestly look nothing alike in comparison to Marinette and Socqueline who ARE stated to be unrelated
but also since there's a huge number of half-chinese kids with blue or green eyes in media when that's not really that common, i tend to also change their eye colors some
like mari and socque get more grey eyes
marc gets more hazel
and some people get hair tints
EITHER WAY
for everyone doing chinese marc headcanons, i would truly appreciate some more half-chinese kids bonding together
them struggling to get the tones right when they speak not-french
them realizing they're all learning different chinese dialects
the real reason marinette cant understand her uncle being that she doesn't understand shanghainese not that she doesn't understand mandarin
or maybe she had been learning cantonese the whole time
just
we could have had it allllll

I have had the most amazing summer. In July, my best friend came to visit. I brought her to Paris (her first time), showed her around my town and other neighbouring cities around Geneva, and we drove to the south of France. I made different meals for everyone to enjoy, danced to the loveliest music, and drank the best wine(s).
The third week of August, I went back to the Philippines. We had a long overdue family reunion. Our uncle from Canada also came to visit with his family, and my cousin who works for months at a cruise ship extended his vacation.
We all flew to Zamboanga del Sur to surprise my grandma and our extended family whom we haven't seen in 13 years ! We spent a week there living the simple life, eating pandesal for breakfast, and singing karaoke kahit brownout.
The first few days of September, I spent back in my hometown. I saw Bowie again. I didn't let any minute pass without cuddling him. Whenever I'm in the PH and everyone else is back home, my sisters and I stay in one bedroom with our parents (and Bowie), chatting away until we all fall asleep. These nights were even more special because we were all cooped up in one room while there was a storm outside. Felt just like the good old days when my sisters and I would spend nights holed up in our parents room trying to pass the time until electricity was back on.
I was also sooo happy to walk around the malls with Christmas music already playing in the background ! We bought surprise presents for our parents. My sisters and I chipped in to buy papa his dream TV, and mama a new iPhone. The rest of my money I spent on groceries, more presents for the fam, pasalubongs for Jon, books, Cheetos, Spicy Century Tuna, Vienna sausages, and Spam. lol
We spent my last week in Manila. Took mama, my sisters, and our aunt on a date - brunch in Wildflour and shopping at Rockwell, and then continued to shop in MOA. I wanted to make dinner for everyone, so I made sinigang na baboy which was perfect for the stormy weather. We had drinks with our cousins before bed (red horse, spicy Oishi, and isaw at bbq).
The next day, I brought my parents to IKEA so I can buy them stuff for the house. I could tell mama was so excited to drive back home so she can start using everything we got. Uncle flew back from Zamboanga later than everyone else so the day after he arrived, he went straight to the condo so we can spend more time with him. We asked him to make lola's bistek Tagalog as he is the only one who can make it exactly the way lola does. I am glad to report that I watched him closely as he was making it - even volunteered to be the sous chef - so I will make it for dinner tomorrow.
The day before my flight, the entire family celebrated my aunt and cousin's birthdays. I made some of my specialty meals, and we ordered a bunch of other food. Of course, there was cake.
I flew back to Switzerland on the 7th. I arrived on Friday at 8 in the morning, unpacked my stuff, ate pancit canton, and fell asleep at 16hr. I woke up at 3am still tired, but I managed to clean up and do all the laundry. I was hanging clothes at the balcony even before the sun was out. I found it hilarious. The rest of the day, I spent on the couch still feeling quite sluggish and brushing off the fact that I was having chills, and my nose wouldn't stop running.
Jon and I went on a quick café date and I couldn't taste the coffee nor the pastry I ordered which I found strange but thought nothing of. We did errands and bought groceries but I started feeling sicker as the hours passed. As soon as we got home, I checked to see if I had covid. The test came out positive. Dinner wasn't much fun. I was much sicker so I couldn't enjoy the food Jon prepared for me - he made me the perfect steak which I couldn't taste hahaha and some soup to make me feel better.
This morning, I woke up at 5am and called my family right away. The symptoms are getting worse, and now I have chills, body pains, and constant headache. I will rest more so I can feel better by tomorrow. I just find this to be a silly end to an incredible summer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daenys Targaryen had always loved the sprawling libraries of her home, of the wondrous city of Valyria. Without a dragon of her own, she had all her life relied on the stories of adventurers past to show her the world. At the age of seven-and-ten, she had yet to bond to a magnificent beast and fly on her own, and being terrified of the imported horses of the Dothraki, she relied instead on her own two feet to explore.
She had not made it very far.
In the cavernous space lit by hundreds of fires, Daenys felt truly herself. The Great Library was almost as ancient as Valyria itself, a towering presence in the middle of the great city. Surrounded on all sides by rivers flowing purple with magic and teeming with beauty, the library was home to thousands of years of knowledge from all over the world.
Daenys, her brother Gaemon, and their father Aenar would often frequent the great edifice when she was a young girl, her and her brother perched upon the lap of their father while he read to them the history of their home. However, after the death of his third and last wife, Maegys Mataeryon, and their son Daeherion in childbed, he stopped reading to his children. He had gone from three wives and four children to no wives and two, and it utterly destroyed him into hermitage.
After Maegys’s death, Aenar became a sort of recluse, never straying far from the Targaryen holding, and definitely not going so far into the city as to get to the library. He encouraged his children to do the same, paranoid that harm would befall them and they would meet an unfortunate fate like his brides, that his remaining children would perish like his dear Daeherion and Aelyx had. But, no matter how much Daenys loved and revered her father, she would never stay away from the library.
Daenys was the second child of Aenar Targaryen, the only surviving of he and his second bride and cousin, Fahaera Saehaylor. Fahaera went mad and leapt from the top of the Targaryen holding after the death of her son Aelyx, when Daenys was just two years old. At just seven-and-ten, she died with a prophecy of doom upon her lips and tears in her eyes.
Gaemon, her elder brother, was the son of Aenar and his sister-wife Elaena. She died when Gaemon was aged seven and Daenys three, sick with sweat and never bearing her brother another child. Her dragon, Tyraxos, was left for her son to claim, which he did promptly upon his mother’s death. Her own mother’s mount, the small and swift she-dragon Abraxes, had fled to the skies after her rider’s death, taking with her Daenys’s hope of a loyal beast. The young woman had often dreamt of the lost dragon, had seen the beautiful red-and-cream beast atop a nest or flying over land and sea. She liked to believe Abraxes was guarding her from within since her dear mother no longer could, keeping a watchful eye on the blood to which she had once been bound.
Despite the innumerable fires lit throughout the gargantuan house of knowledge, the Great Library was always delightfully cool. Even though she, like all dragonlords, were born from the fiery Fourteen Flames, Daenys had always felt whole in the cold. Maybe it was because she had a cool fire within her instead of a red-hot one like the rest of her family had, one that was much smaller than that of her father and her betrothed.
The Great Library was magnificent. There was no better word to describe it. Made from ancient dragonstone, gold, and iron and forged with dragonfire, it was the very heart of Valyria. With hundreds of rooms, each holding thousands of books, and housing texts hailing from every country past and present, there was no place in the world that could rival it. Even the Citadel of Oldtown in faraway Westeros was like a sapling to the Great Library’s towering and ancient oak. One day, Daenys liked to tell herself, she would accomplish the feat of reading all the books it housed, no matter how long it took her.
Daenys had a day of reading ahead, determined still to find the Shadow Texts of Asshai. Today marked day five of searching for them, every day seeming to pull them farther from her grasp. They were said to be somewhere within the Vault, the deepest room beneath the towering library. Poised at the bottom of a thousand-step spiraling staircase and hidden behind a door so heavy it required a dozen men to move, there was a strange air in the iron-and-dragonstone room. A rich shadowy magic stalked the stacks, akin to that of the Warlocks of Qarth, like the magic flowing in the veins of dragonlords. Daenys knew from this presence that the Shadow Texts rested somewhere amongst the shelves.
As the youngest Targaryen entered the main hall of the Library, hugging her red silk shall tight, she was greeted by the Read Ones and the smell of warm vanilla and jasmine, the smell akin to that of a mother’s welcome embrace.
The Readers were ancient beings, born men but men no longer. Having given their lives to the great knowledge of the Valyrian Freehold, they used ancient magic to keep themselves alive in order to keep reading. Having been consuming beating hearts of dragons, bathing in the blood of children, and drinking flame for hundreds of years, they had become something else, something other.
Revered in Valyria and relied upon heavily by the Lords Freeholder for advice and mentorship, they were almost as old as the Library itself. Dressed in rich blue silks lined with white lion fur, studded with rare and expensive gems and stones, they had become some of Daenys’s closest companions throughout her years spent reading with them. If she could have her way, she would join them, devoting her life to their immortal knowledge.
“Good morning, mistress. The Shadows call still?” Master Student Qoral greeted her as she approached his escritoire at the very back of the great hall. Seated in a wooden chair said to be carved from the first tree felled during the Founding, Master Student Qoral was currently partaking in his yearly updating The Great Forty.
“Indeed, Master, they do. Unfortunately, my father is especially nervous today, so my search must conclude before midday.” Upon her leaving at sunrise, her father had demanded she be back before the sun reached the middle of the sky. As the days went on, he became ever increasingly paranoid. Daenys had only her brother to thank for this.
Daenys had been growing increasingly irritated with Gaemon as of late. In her opinion, he felt no duty to their father and no loyalty to his small family. The older he became, the more reckless and flippant the Targaryen he had grown. Just four days past, he fled with his lover, Rhaegelle Qerlaetygis, on dragonback, leaving Daenys to gather their father’s wits alone. Aenar had become a man of weak spirit and even weaker body, with the almost constant absence of his heir making him even more so.
The night before his most recent escapade, she had tried to speak with her brother about his disastrous doings. He quickly turned the conversation onto her, however, and made her out to be a jealous maiden who could only hope to lead a life as great as his and who could only dream to share his bed. Though she would never let him see, she was deeply wounded by his words. When she left his chamber, she went to the right to the roof. Here Daenys often fled when she longed for her mother, feeling here was the only space to connect to her. She fell asleep there, dreaming of Gaemon and Rhaegelle on dragonback flying above the Painted Mountains. Surely enough, when she woke, Gaemon and Rhaegelle, along with their dragons, were gone.
When there had been many belonging to the family Targaryen, Gaemon had been meant for their aunt, Laelyra, who was just days younger than he. A fortnight before Laelyra was to wed Gaemon, however, she eloped into disgrace and fled north to Ib. Daenys had been meant for her brother Aelyx, and then, Daeherion. After their deaths, she was betrothed to be the second wife to their father’s elder brother Aerys Targaryen. Just before Daenys reached three-and-ten and set to marry, Aerys and his two sons were killed in a slave revolt. In almost an instant, Gaemon was left the only heir left of the noble Targaryens, and it was now he and his sister’s duty to carry on and keep their house alive.
Gaemon had years ago petitioned their father to allow him to wed his dear Rhaegalle, but their father refused to allow it. Not only was she not of his blood nor he of hers, but she was a woman over twice his age who had not bled in years. She was also once married, to her brother Viserys who had long since passed, her son Aemys now the head of their wealthy house. Despite Aenar demanding his son banish his lover from their holding, he refused and now Daenys was subjected to her brother’s nightly whining with his concubine interrupting her while she read.
“The Shadows remain vaulted, child. The door is open. Your goldenflame awaits within.”
Daenys raised her brow, surprised. “Aegona is here? When did she arrive?”
Qoral looked up at the young Targaryen. “Indeed. She arrived just before you, her blue beast almost toppling the north tower.”
Daenys Targaryen’s spirits immediately rose. “Thank you, Qoral!”
Walking hurriedly through the flame-lined hall, passing dozens of robed Read Ones, she finally reached the winding staircase to the vault at the opposite end of the grand room. As she ran down the stairs as if her life depended on it, she could feel her heart light in her chest. Daenys had not seen her Aegona in weeks.
As the end of the stairs met her, Daenys leaned against the cold wall to catch her breath, then walked calmly down to the opened room.
The room, like all in the Library, was illuminated with heatless flame, but somehow remained in constant shadow. With its walls thick with dusty books almost as old as life itself and taxidermied harpy of the Ghiscari hanging from the ceiling, it was Daenys’s favorite place in the entire structure.
In a corner, perched upon ancient cushions from Valyria’s tribal days, her face pushed into a book and scrunched in confusion, was Aegona Daezgygar. Her molten silver hair was done into a half-up, half-down style like always. She was dressed in a loose blue cotton tunic made to match the scales of Pryjagis, tight black leather trousers, and boots almost disintegrating off of her feet. She wore her ancient dragonhorn around her neck, looking as wild as ever.
“You have found the oldest recorded YiTish collection of recipes, I see,” said Daenys as she leaned against the entryway.
Aegona looked up, smiling. “Oh, is that what this is? I seem unable to understand any of it.”
Daenys walked over to her friend, sliding down the wall until she was seated beside her. “Well, dear, that is most likely due to the fact you are holding it upside-down. And, of course, there is the issue of your only speaking High Valyrian.”
Daenys was fond of no one more than she was of Aegona. Friends since three-and-ten, they had been inseparable ever since the funeral of her uncle Aerys and cousins Faeryll and Baelon, where Aegona comforted the distraught Daenys. Daenys could not put into words her feelings for Aegona, or what she would do for her. She would quite literally go to the ends of the earth for her, and she would do the same.
Aegona tossed the book aside, horrifying Daenys, and wrapped her arms around her. She nuzzled her head into the crook of her companion’s milky-pale neck, sighing. “Oh, Dae, I cannot go back. Father is punishing me for Gryr. If he has his way I will be forced to wed Vhaelor before the month is ended. It is ridiculously unfair; Vhaelor bedded dozens without punishment before he chose Alaesys as his bride. I only bedded one, once. I should have known he would not keep it to himself, however. I was just too wonderful.” Aegona looked up to Daenys, winking.
Daenys greatly disliked hearing about Gryr Daezgygar in any sense, but especially so when his name came from Aegona in the context of sharing her bed. Aegona had told Daenys weeks before her cousin’s visit that she planned to discover if men were as good as her sister made them out to be, and that Gryr would be who she tried. Once she set her mind on something, there was no stopping her, no matter how much Daenys discouraged her.
“Must you speak of this imbecile? We have finally been reunited after weeks apart. Let us speak of ourselves, not of idiot men. We have our entire lives to give to them, they do not deserve this time as well.” Daenys shrugged Aegona’s head off her shoulder, looking away. The eldest Daezgygar daughter’s talk of her cousin reminded her of her own idiot brother whom she was destined to marry, and she did not want to think of him now. She honestly did not wish to think of him ever.
“I shall give my life to no man, Dream. I will give it to you or to no one at all. I will swear this upon every altar, mark my words.” Aegona reached for Daenys’s hand, clasping it between hers. She turned to face her. “We are destined to see the world. You are destined to experience life firsthand, not solely in these texts.”
“Gods, how I would love that. If I am ever to tame a mount, Aegona, I will fly beside you for eternity. You will earn glory in the sky, and I shall reap the knowledge of the world.”
Aegona’s eyes lit up. “Are you serious? You would fly beside me?”
Daenys shrugged. “Of course. I do have a duty to my family, yes, but I need not wed and have children for some time. I will be unable to until Gaemon surrenders his wandering lifestyle and whoring and decides to care for the family as much as I have, which will undoubtedly not occur for years. Until then, I would prefer nothing more.”
“Well, then. It seems we have one very difficult and specific task for the day. One that will surely raise your spirits and bring about our adventures immediately. Unfortunately, your books will need to wait.” Aegona promptly stood, pulling Daenys up with her.
“What do you mean? Where are we going?”
The silver-haired girl stopped, turning to face her white-haired counterpart with a sly smile upon her lips. “We, my dear girl, are going to claim you a dragon.”
Disclaimer: Chapter involves themes of abusive family, mention of death, violence, and curse words. If you're sensitive to that stuff, scroll past and stay safe! <3
“Remember we’ll be back by nine, this place better be spotless or you’re staying up and making sure it is!”
“I know Phuphu*, I’ve got it. You and Meeta just enjoy your day.”
My aunt called for her daughter who was still at the mirror adjusting how she looked, smoothening out her patterned gold dress and putting any flyaway strands back in place. They were both going to a birthday party for one of my aunt’s friend’s sister’s brother-in-law’s son and, as usual, I wasn’t invited. Instead, I got tasked with keeping the apartment in check while they’re gone in case there’s an explosion or something. They never give me a better reason.
“Hurry up child, we’re going to be late!”
“Mommy you’re the one who always says beauty takes time.”
Meeta took one last look in the mirror and joined her mom at the door.
“Well, don’t you look stunning!”
“Um, of course I do? Have I ever not looked perfect?” There it is, my ever so humble cousin. I mean don’t get me wrong I admire her confidence, just crosses a line when she starts putting others down for not looking as good as her. And by others I mostly mean me.
But regardless, it was true. Meeta did look stunning all day everyday. She’s only fifteen but still considered the beauty of our family, especially to our relatives outside America. Tall, dark eyes, milky skin. Shiny black hair done up in a tight bun. Meeta takes great care to always look picture perfect.
I waved goodbye as they left for the party. It did feel a little bad, never getting to tag along and join them anywhere. But then again, eight years of technically being in debt to my aunt didn’t exactly leave any respect for me so parties are the least of my concerns. She acts as if not yelling at me for one minute would end with tragedy just because she’s letting me stay here for free. My only form of compensation: taking care of the house. Cleaning, shopping, running errands, all that jazz. It’s either that or a job so I chose household chores, it’s got more perks.
Like getting to choose my own schedule! As always, I was told ahead of time that they’d be out today so while my aunt and Meeta were sleeping last night, I got the majority of the cleaning done (with the exception of their rooms, of course). I asked Jaiden if we could hang out today and miraculously they agreed so I had to make sure today's cleaning would take no more than an hour, even if that sacrificed a little bit of sleep yesterday. All I’ve gotta do now is just some light sweeping. Totally worth it in my opinion.
Soon after I was done, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and saw it was a call from Jaiden. Fumbling with the buttons I eventually managed to answer.
“Jaiden? Are you out already? Give me like ten minutes I’ll-”
“I can’t make it.”
Wait, what? “Wh-what do you mean?”
“I can’t make it today, something came up. I just wanted to quickly call you and let you know.”
Beep!
They hung up.
My heart sank thinking about their words. Something came up? I’ve been so excited to hang out with Jaiden all day and now something came up? We already haven’t spent much time together lately. They don’t talk as much at school and stopped responding to my texts. I got worried I did something wrong but every time I’d gain the courage to ask they’d just say they were low on energy and I’d accept that answer because what else could I do? After all of this time of practically begging them, I finally got them to agree on making plans in hopes we could talk and now today of all days something just happened to come up?
I sighed and quickly returned to rationality. It must be a last minute situation, I mean they barely even called for a minute. Probably something important or maybe a parent randomly said no. Jaiden did say their parents are a bit flip-floppy. Either way, no point in getting mad at Jaiden, it’s not in their control. I begrudgingly shoved my phone back in my pocket and paced around the house trying to entertain myself. I’ve already cleaned every nook and cranny I could bullshit into justifying as a mess so that’s not an option. I don’t really have any inspiration to work on my art or writing either.
I went into my room and flopped on the bed.
Ugh, this sucks! It’s only three pm, I still have so many hours to kill. Maybe I should just take a nap.
Before I could try to doze off to dreamland, a sound forced my eyes back open.
A knock? At my window?
But when I stuck my head outside no one was there. So either the wind was being a little bitch or I’m so depressed I’m hallucinating. I groaned and was about to go back to bed but, the very second I turned my back, two voices shouted in unison before I got tackled to the ground.
“Surprise attack!”
My poor back stung against the hard floor as the two mutant idiots curled around me.
“Leo, Mikey! I missed you guys! But, um, I do still need to breathe.”
We sat up, still on the floor and my soul eventually returned to my body.
Mikey flashed a vibrant grin “So, whatcha doing? Any plans or are you free today!? Please say you’re free!”
“Oh, I am now, I guess. I was supposed to hang out with a friend but they canceled last minute so my day just about cleared up.”
“Aww sorry to hear that Salena.” And he’s back to hugging. I’d be more annoyed if Mikey didn’t give such great hugs, he’s as soft as a sponge. “But, on the bright side, that means you can come hang out with us now! Leo and I were planning on going to a zoo and-”
“A ZOO!?”
Am I dreaming because holy daze it feels like I am! I could barely contain my giddy giggles the entire walk over.
“I’ve always wanted to go to a zoo literally my entire life! Getting up close and personal with all the amazing different animals! I mean don’t get me wrong, books are great but it’d be so different to see one in person! I feel like I’d get carried away and go inside the enclosure, though, but that’s fine! Just the usual intrusive thoughts and stuff!”
“Hey Salena, love the enthusiasm and it’s really great to see you so happy but, maybe you should save your energy for when we actually get there?”
“Sorry! I’m just so excited!”
“Yeah, I had a feeling you’d enjoy this.” He smiled and turned back to Mikey. “Hey Angelo, we there yet?”
“Yepperoni! Just give it a sec and let the Master of Mystic Arts do his thing.” Mystic arts?
He held out his hands and they started glowing. Contrasting with the neon blue I’m used to seeing, a portal opened up in sunset colors.
“Guys, am I missing something? Why are we opening a portal?” I glanced over at Leo for some answers only to be met by his stupid amused smirk.
“So, we may have hidden a tiny little detail about this zoo trip.”
“Damn, you don’t say?”
Mikey, the only thing between me and the glowing mystery hole, stepped off to the side. “We weren’t just gonna go to any regular zoo. We’re going to the Hidden City Zoo!”
Hidden City? Oh wait, that’s the place Raph talked about, the reason why there were so many Yōkai near my house! This is probably one of the gateways to it? I leaned in a bit closer, a little more cautious than usual. It sounded thrilling to explore the Hidden City but a zoo? What kind of animals could a mutant zoo have?
“Um, we’re not gonna get immediately mauled death by some crazy rabid mutant lion or something, right?”
“Dunno. Only one way to find out!”
“What.”
The blue bastard pushed me through without hesitation as my poor knees made contact with the hard, rocky surface on the other side. I thought of letting my violent desires get the better of me for a minute. Until...
The new world in front of me left me starstruck.
The sky painted in various hues of pink and gold, an enormous entrance built on seafoam-colored stone displaying the words Hidden City Zoo. Peeking inside it only got better, the place was littered with wild and wacky creatures I’ve never even dreamed could exist! And in the distance, I think I can make out a rollercoaster?
It seems like Mikey’s in just as much awe as I am “Omigosh look at how big it is! And it has an amusement park nearby? This place is even cooler than I thought!”
“Dudes, what’d I tell you, this was totally a great idea! Ugh, I should’ve gone here last time instead of that stupid spa.”
“Why didn’t you just go after the spa?”
“Oh cause we all got thrown in jail. A dumb bird and an evil wig framed me for theft so that kinda took up the whole day.”
“But Dad and I bailed them out and saved the day! Who’s the best turtle now Leon~”
A giggle escaped my lips “The fact that I’m not even surprised. Now c’mon, enough blabbering, we gotta go explore!”
A mutant zoo is somehow exactly what I expected it to be but also completely different at the same time. Most of these guys look like regular animals, just bigger and louder. But a few others actually reminded me of more traditional Yōkai I saw in a book about Japanese folklore. I remember Mom used to hate how interested I was in it, which was pretty strange since she herself was Japanese. That was the only thing I ever knew of her heritage. She kept trying to tell me Yōkai knowledge was useless and I’d have way more fun learning about real animals instead. Unfortunately for her, my curiosity was not one to be quenched so I simply ended up learning about both.
I looked at one of the bear Yōkai, they’re called onikuma I think. We made eye contact and either I need to get my vision checked or it just smiled at me. Weren’t these supposed to be wild animals? Come to think of it actually, the more Yōkai-looking creatures resembled the mutants outside the zoo enclosures more than the ones inside. You know, the guys walking around on two feet wearing clothes and taking pictures on their phones the same way we were and are very obviously not wild animals.
“Whatcha writing, Salena?” the tangerine looked over my shoulder while I was typing on my notes app.
“Oh, just trying to learn a bit more about these guys. I don’t know why but something just feels-”
Before I could finish my sentence, my stomach chose violence sending a sharp pain through my body as it rumbled louder than a whale call.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to eat today.”
“You do that too?”
Mikey let out a dramatically loud gasp “What is wrong with y’all? How can anyone forget to eat? We’re getting food right now.”
“Chillax Mikey, I’ll be fine! We can wait a little-”
“Don’t make me go Doctor Delicate Touch on you.”
“N-Nevermind.”
We were unwillingly dragged by the terrifying midget to a food booth nearby. I mean, it’s not too bad honestly, the food in the Hidden City is way better than in New York. We got a super delicious burger packed with juicy meat, creamy cheese, tomatoes that actually taste like something, and… worm fries. I avoided that last delicacy but Leo seemed to enjoy it. Mikey on the other hand wrote down every tiny detail while rambling to himself the whole time.
“Don’t mind him, Mikey loves to cook. Sometimes he tries remaking recipes of any food we liked outside.”
“Ahem, I don’t just recreate them, I improve them!”
I looked at the giant burger in my hands amazed at Mikey’s confidence. “You want to improve this? This is literally the best burger I’ve ever had in my life! How could you top this?”
“Yeah, Miguel, you sure you’re good enough for this one?” He glared as Leo playfully stuck out his tongue.
“You’ll just have to wait and be impressed! But on another note, how’re you doing Salena? Enjoying the day so far?”
“Enjoying doesn’t even begin to describe it! Everything is so cool here! I’ve always wanted to go to a zoo like this. I bugged my parents about it a lot when I was younger but we never had enough money for the tickets and stuff. They promised they’d take me one day but…” They died before they could.
I never realized how I completely forgot about that. Life got so busy that getting upset over zoos seemed too silly to do anymore.
I snapped back to reality feeling the boys’ eyes on me.
“Sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean to ruin the mood-”
They hugged me.
“It’s a good thing we took you here then!”
“Yeah, consider it a thank you gift for Mr. and Mrs. Moni.”
This feels… warm. And familiar? It’s a hug. I’ve hugged plenty of people. But those hugs felt different. I feel so small right now and that’s strangely a good thing. Everything is warm and cozy and a little dreamy.
I think the last time a hug felt like this was when my parents were still here.
The rest of the day went by delightfully. We took a stupid amount of pictures - mostly because Leo wanted to boast to Raph and Donnie later - and Mikey even dragged us on to a few of the rides at the amusement park. The mood felt a little softer than before. I’m not entirely used to it but I honestly don’t mind.
But as usual, the pleasantly chill vibe can never last for too long. A loud crash grabbed our attention towards one of the exhibits where a bunch of employees were scrambling around with cages in their arms. Mikey managed to stop one of them mid-panic to ask what’s going on.
“Something broke the glass and now they all escaped!”
I caught Leo inspecting the broken glass. Following his eyes, they landed on what seemed to be a giant crab claw. He quickly noticed the two culprits in the distance frolicking around in acrobat uniforms and groaned. “Ugh, I think I know who that something was.”
“Who are those guys?”
“The Sando brothers. We just can’t enjoy a single day of peace can we?” Mikey grit his teeth with a murderous glint in his eyes. Like I said, soft as a sponge. Just when he’s mad, he’s as soft as a sponge left out too long without water.
The employee was focused more on the escaped critters and rushed off before we could ask anything else. “They’ll wreck everything! We need to catch them before they wreck everything!”
“Hey wait! What animal got loose!?”
I squinted at the label trying to read the small text, immediately filled with dread now understanding everyone’s panic. One of the raccoon-sized demons hissed to my right, preparing to pounce.
“Uh, guys? This was a shrew enclosure!”
“A what enclosure?”
“Duck!”
“Wha- GAH!” It would seem I managed to avoid it at the expense of traumatizing the blueberry. “GET IT OFF ME! GET IT OFF ME!”
Mikey kicked the shrew off revealing poor Leo’s scratched up and terrified face. “Why are they so violent!?”
“They’re shrews, that’s their job! But they’re usually no bigger than a human palm, I can’t believe ooze could supersize them that much.” I quickly wrote down the new info on my phone as Mikey helped Leo up.
“Leo, what’s the plan?”
He looked at the crabs while dusting himself off “We should probably take care of the circus clowns before they destroy anything else. What do ya say, Angelo? Think you can keep up with professional acrobats?”
“You know I can! Cowabunga!”
“Wait! What do I do?”
“Oh, Mikey and I can take care of this. You don’t wanna just lay low till we’re back?”
“And let you two hog all the fun? I thought you knew me better than that.”
He softly chuckled “Right, adrenaline junkie, how could I forget?” He looked at the several mutant shrews raging havoc all over the place “Well, we could use someone to help catch the… shrews right? You seem to know a bunch about them. Maybe you could help make sure they don’t destroy the whole place.”
My eyes lit up “You got it chief!”
“If you need any help, holler!”
I went over to the employees. Some of them were still trying to capture the tiny devils while a few others were getting a mystic wall ready where the glass broke, I’m assuming to temporarily keep them in. I’ll need a plan to get all the shrews in there. Mindlessly chasing around already proved to be a fail.
I know I definitely read about this before. Shrews are carnivorous, they like eating things like snails and slugs but those were the regular-sized shrews. What could I feed these giants?
Think, think, think. There’s gotta be something around here I can bait them with…
“Wait! The burgers! Of course!”
I bolted inside a kitchen and scanned around for any giant clumps of meat.
“Hey, kid! Who are you, what are you even doing here?”
“Sorry, I’m in a hurry. Shrew problems.”
“What?”
I looked past the confused guy and saw what I was looking for. Shoving down my guilt, I grabbed a bunch of bacon patties and ran out the kitchen.
“Hey!”
“I’m sorry, it’s a necessary sacrifice!”
Back outside, I found a shrew and waved one of the patties, catching its attention.
“Over here, buddy!” Usually, thin bacon strips would be enough to lure them but I figured giant meat circles were more appropriate for these guys.
Once I got it close enough to the enclosure, I threw the patty in letting the shrew jump after it, getting trapped behind the transparent magic wall. One by one, all the menace mice were eventually recaptured. Not gonna lie, I’m still a little surprised it actually worked.
“Salena, look out!”
I dodged to Mikey’s instruction just in time for another giant crab claw to fly bullet-speed past me getting absorbed into the wall. It would seem mystic glass can’t really be broken, good thing too since the shrews escaping again would’ve broken my will to live alongside it.
Unfortunately, I spent too long collecting myself and got snatched up by the back of my shirt, now facing the presumed Sando brothers.
“Look Carl, it’s the gross little human that keeps ruining our plan!”
“Ha! Look at it swing!”
“Put me down you bald red freak!”
He suddenly looked at me in pain as if my dream of breaking his dumb claws open had actually come true “B-bald?..”
“Did you just call my brother bald!?”
“I can’t believe that’s the part you’re focused on.”
“I… I used to be so beautiful with my luscious long locks before I got turned into this! You still got to keep your hair, why was life so cruel to me!?” The red nuisance began pouring a waterfall of tears.
“See what you did!? Now you made him cry! Hey, it’s alright Ben, that human doesn’t know beauty when they see it.” Are you serious.
“You’re right! We should do something awful to it! Something that’ll make them regret calling me bald!”
“Yeah like!.. Like…”
“Ooh, I know! We should eat it!”
“DUDE! Why is that the first thing you think of!?”
A familiar taunting voice joined in the conversation “Lame! You guys are so awful at plans, no wonder you got outsmarted by a regular ol’ human!” I’d be offended if I wasn’t preoccupied with my confusion.
“Excuse me!? Did you just call my brother lame!?”
“Why does the universe hate me today!?”
“I’d like to see you idiots do any better!”
“Oh-ho we could do so much better, right Mikey?”
“What are you guys-”
“Duh! I mean there are rollercoasters everywhere and they didn’t even realize higher ground would speed things up by a trillion.”
HUH!? “No no no no no no! We do not need to go higher ground!”
“Hey come to think of it, Mike, dropping someone from a high place is a pretty heinous thing to do, too. Way worse than eating them.”
“OH YOU TWO ARE SO DEAD IF I’M NOT!”
“Ben, they actually have a point.”
“Y-yeah they kinda do… Welp doesn’t matter if we take credit for it, anyway! See ya later, jerks!”
They jumped onto the coaster as I helplessly awaited my fate, praying the dumbass turtles had some sort of plan and didn’t just use me as live bait for the crab monsters.
“Look down at your death tiny pest! I bet it’d take you days just to finally hit the ground!”
“Woah, you really think we’re that high up, Ben?”
“Yeah! Or actually, no not really, I think it’ll only take like a minute or something.”
“Really? That doesn’t sound as cool. Should we go higher ground-”
“UGH! Why does it matter, I’m dead either way you buffoons!”
“Oh yeah, good point.” He let go of me and off I was screaming as I fall to my doom.
But just above me, a pair of chains wrapped around the rollercoaster and snapped it like a stick, sending idiot crab men falling down with me. Still in shock, I didn’t notice the blue katana fly by, teleporting a smirking turtle just in time to catch me.
“Leo?”
“Missed me?~” He drew his blade mid-air and opened a portal landing us to safety.
“You didn’t think we actually ditched you, did you?”
“Aha, I was starting to…”
I looked past his shoulder towards the sound of Mikey’s hyper yelps.
“It’s mystic time, baby!” I gawked as the orange portal, just like the one from earlier today, opened up swallowing the terrified acrobats and sending them to who knows where.
“Mikey can open portals, too!?”
“Don’t tell me you thought there was a gateway to the Hidden City directly outside the zoo.”
“Actually, yeah I kinda did.”
Mikey walked over pressing against the glass wall between us. Wait, glass? Where even are we?
“Leo, Salena! Are you guys okay?”
“Don’t worry, little brother, we’re perfectly fine. We just gotta get out here.”
“Uh…L-Leo!” He followed my frightened gaze to the giant mutant bullfrogs behind us.
“So that’s what the glass was for.”
“RUN!”
I grabbed his hand and started sprinting away from the green enemy, making sure to dodge the enormous pink tongue currently hunting us.
“You know, for someone who supposedly failed gym, you’re pretty light on your feet.”
I furrowed my brows, more towards his accusation than his inappropriately relaxed smirk “I did fail gym! You’re just lucky dodgeball’s the only sport I’m good at.”
We hid behind a nearby rock, gasping and trying to catch our breaths.
“Man, of all the places you could’ve picked, why’d you portal us here?”
“Hey, it’s not like I meant to! My portals mess up when I panic.”
“You were panicking?”
He looked just as surprised as I did “Ah-”
“Guys! Are you dead?!” his comms let out Mikey’s panicked voice.
“We’re okay, Mikey. Just resting for a bit.”
“Oh good. Cause uh, THE COPS ARE HERE! WE’VE GOTTA MOVE!”
“The cops? Eugh boy.”
“Wait why is that a bad thing? Does the Hidden City not have Good Samaritan laws or something?”
He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck “So uh, remember the whole ‘us getting thrown into jail’ thing? Yeah, we may or may not still be wanted criminals for that whole shebang.”
“You said you got bailed out!”
“I never said legally!”
“Oh my god.”
He peeked from behind the rock, making eye contact with Mikey still waiting for us outside the enclosure.
“Okay, I’ve got an idea but we’ve gotta make a run for it. You ready to leave the zoo?”
“Yeah, I think I’ve had enough mutant mayhem for one day.”
We raced past the mutant frog. Leo swung his sword one last time, creating a portal, and shoved it so it reached both sides of the glass barrier. The three of us dove in as it closed behind, falling back to a soft carpeted floor.
I rubbed my head and looked around “My room… M-My room! Omigosh we made it guys, we’re alive!”
Mikey and Leo were a little less celebratory than I thought they’d be.
“Sorry for dragging you into a fight, Salena. Again. Man, that’s the second time that’s happened. Which, I guess it isn’t a lot, but still weird it happened twice.”
“Ugh, this was supposed to be a fun, relaxing trip to the zoo. I can’t believe those stupid crab jerks showed up and ruined it.”
I had no idea they’d be so dejected over this.
“Who said anything about ruined?” They looked at me puzzled by my unfazed smile.
“Did you hit your head or something? We should check for injuries. Leo-”
“No, guys, I’m fine! Really!”
“You almost died twice today and you think that wouldn’t ruin anything?”
“Okay, yeah, that would’ve been inconvenient if I did, but I didn’t! I mean, come on! Think about literally everything else that happened! My first ever zoo and we just so happened to save it from disaster that exact same day? Guys, this was amazing!” I let myself breathe a bit, feeling the adrenaline calm down. “Life’s been so much better ever since I met you.”
Leo stared at me silently while Mikey caved into his emotions. “That’s it, I can’t take it anymore! Group hug!”
The teary tangerine pulled us in. For a while, we all stayed like that, cuddled on the floor. Warm, cozy, and comfortable. As weirdly thrilling as the danger was, I think the hugs were still my favorite part about today.
I would’ve loved to just enjoy it a bit longer but my phone alarm rang, the one I always set to be an hour before my oh so beloved family returned.
“You better go. I don’t think my aunt would be very happy with two random turtles in my room.”
After our goodbyes, I happily jumped into bed ready for some quiet downtime. I guess even though I didn’t get to hang out with the person I initially planned to, today might have turned out better this way. I opened up Instagram and started scrolling and catching up on everything else in the world. A YouTuber posted a new video, a couple and their cat went on vacation, an artist opened up commissions. All in all, seemed to be a pleasant day for everyone else, too.
My thumb paused. A new post from Zane. They were pictures from a party he went to today, seemed like he had fun.
I got to the last picture on his post. My eyes went wide, staying glued to the person next to him. Heavy eyes. Dark hair straightened into a ponytail.
I felt my stomach doing flips realizing who it was.
“Jaiden?”
