My Hero Academia: Animation Exhibition

Quickly rising from the grave to share some pictures from the My Hero Academia exhibition that is currently being held in Japan!

It's called My Hero Academia: ANIMATION, an exhibition that highlights some of the biggest moments from season 6 through various forms of art. 99.9% of the photos I took are villain only of course but obviously the exhibition features the heroes too. So if you would like to see them just keep reading!

Outside the exhibition were two posters to promote the exhibition. The photo on the left is the villain poster. The photo on the right is the ticket and a character sheet that everyone gets. The character you get is random so I was SO lucky that I got Toga!

Inside the exhibition, they start out with a compilation video of the season. Then, you get to the main part of the exhibition, where they have various ways of highlighting some of the most important scenes of the season.

They start out with a cardboard cutout of a few hero characters before having this screenshot compilation to have you be sad right away.

After that you turn a corner and look... I don't like him, but this was actually such a cool display! The feathers were hanging down on a string so they had actual movements!

Moving on we get to one of my favorite parts of the exhibition! They had a screen where they had a tribute to Twice and Toga, with a screen that played some of their shared scenes accompanied by sad music. Around it were panels of them and pieces of dialog they exchanged was hanging around the screen as well... (the second one reads "thank you for saving me"

I think after that they had some sketches from the season, but you're not allowed to take photos of those so skipping to the better part:

Fun fact: right after this they had the tank Shigaraki is in on the wall as a photo spot and one of the employees pointed at it and was offering to take a photo so I said thanks and quickly escaped to the next part lol. So you go to this small hallway and on the walls to the left and right they had these panels from little Tenko which was suuper cool. I was a big fan of the fact they had all these 3D (is that what you call this?) versions, which made it feel more real.

And going straight you walk right up to him.

Shortly after they had a screen showing Shigaraki fighting against the heroes. Right next to the screen they had cardboard cutouts of Deku and Endvr, and on the left they had cardboard cutouts of Shouto and Bakugou, with light effects choreographed in tune with the music of the fight! I had like a split second to take this shot.

They also had this panel and quote compilation afterwards:

And now... moving on to the one and only:

After this short scene introduction they had the COOLEST thing ever and I need to own this for personal reasons. It's a Touya cutout, with LED-lit light to really bring his flames to light. In the background it has the "the past never dies" quote and an image of each of his family members. The light was going dark and bright which was really cool and I took a video of that too but here are some photos:

I was really glad they also included Dadpress!

They had some moments from Touya's backstory highlighted as well, but I HAD to take a photo of this summary, because at the end it says that he is "standing up once more from Shouto and his family's words" - standing up is just not the word I would've used for the guy's pathetic reaction but suuuuure.

Anyway, that was it for the villain moments in the exhibition. At the very end they had this huge Deku figure and I had to take a photo because it looks like he's about to beat me up.

Fortunately, he didn't land a blow so I made it out safely, where I was walking up to see the gang:

And yes, they also had a merch section, where I got some nice stuff!

Overall, it was a fun little exhibition and I was happy to see the villains being included so much. Unfortunately, merch-wise it was mainly Shigaraki, Touya, and Toga but I got a villain washi tape, which has one screenshot of each LoV member so that's super cute!

That's it - hope you guys enjoyed the few photos. It was definitely cooler in person and it was difficult to edit some of the photos due to the lighting in the exhibition, but I hope this post somewhat conveys the atmosphere.

Welcome to Retro Watching

What is retro watching?

I have a problem where I start to binge watch a new show, get a panic attack part way in, and then never touch it again.

I put this down to pressure to binge watch everything. So to counteract that I'm going to be watching tv shows the old fashioned way I did in the 90s and 2000s. An episode a week. The shows may not be retro but the way I watch it is.

Current Schedule: (I will keep this up to date)

Monday: Star Trek TOS Season 1 & Charmed Season 1

Tuesday: La Brea & seaQuest (the inspiration for this idea)

Wednesday: Good Omens Season 1

Thursday: Doctor Who Season 11

Friday: Twin Peaks Season 1

Saturday: My Hero Academia Season 6

Sunday: The Owl House Season 1

I then got autistic about it and made a spread sheet and decided to rate each episode based on 8 criteria:

*Since I will be watching different shows of different genres this category will be different depending on the type of show. Most of the shows will have Cheese but it will vary for others. For instance Good Omens will have Gay as a rating.

1-6 are rated on a scale of 1-10

7 and 8 are rated on a scale of -10-0

They are then sorted on a Tier list depending on the numerical value per episode.

I will also write a short review per episode and post it here

New fake screenshot with my Nigh-Fire Shipping! Enji Todoroki/Endeavor, from "Boku no Hero Academia", and Azure Bourgeois/Nuit, my OC!! 🔥❤️🌌

This scene is from season 6 episode 24, after Uravity's speech convinces the refugees to accept Deku returning to UA. Enji sees Azure in the crowd (Givré, Rosé and Azure are there to support the refugees) and she smiles sweetly at him to let him know that she'll always support him no matter what happens. There is no exchange of words or any other type of interaction, Endeavor feels comforted by that smile so full of love ❤️‍🔥. The subtitles say: "When heroes suffer, they are saved by the bonds they have created" in Spanish.

The expressions that Enji shows in these scenes have killed me since I read this chapter in the manga 🥺, so I had to do something about it. His pain is so palpable that I want to comfort him, but since I can't do it, Azure gladly does it for me 😁💖

Saw some End of the Year questionnaire thing going around and wanted to do it. If anything for myself as a way to review this year.

1. Song of the year? Alestorm ~ P.A.R.T.Y.

No brainer here. This song has been living rent free in my head for the last 7 months since its release. 🤘🏻

2. Album of the year? Dragon Ball Z: Movie 8 - Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan

Not new by any means, but dang watching this movie again this year and hearing that early 2000's American metal soundtrack. Ingredients for an EPIC childhood right there. 🤘🏻😝🤘🏻

3. Favorite musical artist / group you started listening to this year? Alestorm ~ The pirate power metal band

Pirate Metal is the genre I didn't realize I needed in my life until I heard them.

4. Movie of the year? Dragon Ball Z: Movie 8 - Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan

Again, not new, but I rewatched it for the first time in YEARS and it was just as glorious, if not more so, than the last time I watched it. That 1993 animation and again, the English dub metal soundtrack hit me HARD! Broly's still my favorite DBZ villain even if he's non-canon. The idea of an bloodthristy evil Saiyan, let alone an incredibly powerful Legendary Super Saiyan, is such an interesting concept.

5. TV show of the year?

I rarely watch TV outside of anime... might have to go with the new My Hero Academia season. The non-stop action and fight scenes has been very welcome.

6. Episode of tv or webisode that defined the year for you?

Nothing stands out at this moment... but to go along with the previous answer, there was that one episode where Mirko kicks the ever living daylights outta those disgusting freakazoid Nomus in MHA was pretty dang cool! Go, bunny! 🐇

7. Favorite actor of the year? Nobody!

I don't idolize people. That way I can't be disappointed when they inevitably let me down. 🙃

8. Game of the year? The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (PC PORT)

Technically an unofficial re-release, BUT without a doubt this is my GOTY. Absolutely freakin' phenomenal. It's objectively the BEST video game ever created finally freed from it's console shackles on PC Master Race. Seriously, 60 fps, true widescreen, gyro support, restorations, gameplay enhancements, built-in randomizer, mod support, RESHADE, you name it. Fans always treat Nintendo's games better than Nintendo and this clearly shows it. Bless the team behind the Ship of Harkinian port. They made a lot of dreams come true this year.

9. Best month for you this year?

Every month I draw breath is a good one!

10. Something that made you cry this year?

HA! I don't cry, but no seriously I feel like there was something I watched this year that made me teary-eyed, but I can't remember... Oh, well, must've not been that important then!

11. Something you want to do again next year?

Play more old games. 🎮

12. Talk about a new friend you made this year.

I don't make new friends, BUT my best friend I haven't seen since 9th grade of high school visited me in person for the first time in nearly 13 YEARS! Let me tell you something, best friends are the ones that will never fade over time and will always be there. That's amazing and I'm lucky to have 'em! 🤗

13. How was your birthday this year?

I aged. Another reminder of my fleeting mortality. 💀

14. Favorite book you read this year?

I don't read books. 🚫📚

15. What’s a bad habit you picked up this year?

I don't do bad habits.

By far the biggest lesson I learned is new things suck! Nothing is better than the old stuff. Games, shows, all of it. Too many remakes/ reboot cash grabs that are shameful in comparison to the classics.

21. What��s something new about your place of residence (room, home, or general location) now vs the start of the year?

Nothing. It's exactly the same. Just the way I want it. WELL I might have a few more anime figures and a Monokuma plush that I didn't have before...

23. Favorite place you visited this year?

Wait... did I leave my house this year?

24. If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be?

"I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise."

I assume this means OC's... Well uhh, I made a lot of sims recreations, not many OC's. I guess I just don't have a lot of "original" creativity! Oh, but there was that werewolf girl I designed. She's cool!

I don’t know what the numbe 4 really means exactly or what it symbolizes, but if anyone know let me know.

Also I think Tomura left hand is his dominant hand. He throw the ball with his left hand and when Hana running away he reached out to her with his left hand.

I read somewhere before that the left hand is associated with the devil. That just a myth through so don’t take that to heart.

It just sort of genius how the little things sorta make sense it you look very close.

Wolf Rain has always been my favorite anime growing up and even to this day it still my favorite. I love this pin and it a very great investment. Got it off Mercari.

It looks like the anime gave Tomura a grayish blue eyes, same with his father as well. Seems like the red eyes are manifestation of his quirk. His hair starting turning when he killed Hana and the eyes changed when Kotaro attack him with the garden tool. Also the blood bath even through it way somewhat censored it was still superlative.

I don’t really know if this was intentional for the anime or if Tomura eyes are gray blue in the manga. But other than that the episode was really entertaining to watch.

Also the pictures are screenshots that I took so sorry for the subtitles.

Sharing another translation of an article interviewing Yuki Kaji, Todoroki’s voice actor! When I tried searching I only found some partial and rough translations and there were a couple nice lines in here so I decided to translate the whole thing for everyone. Apologies if it’s been done before.

This interview discusses episode 10 of season two… “Shoto Todoroki: Origin” and Kaji’s thoughts on it.

My favorite part is when Kaji describes Todoroki’s past pain and trauma like a scab: “I believe the wounds on Todoroki’s heart were painful, covered in a thick scab but still fresh and bleeding underneath. Todoroki ignored that scab up until now, but Izuku’s actions and words started to tear it off.” 💔

This is just my take on a translation– feel free to message me if you notice any mistakes and I’ll try to fix as soon as possible!

“A drama you have to know when talking about Todoroki” — Special Interview with Yuki Kaji who plays Todoroki in My Hero Academia! Includes Screenshots from the 10th Episode Airing 6/3

Popular TV anime series My Hero Academia is airing now, and coming up tomorrow June 3rd is episode 10 “Shoto Todoroki: Origin”. This episode is one of the most popular from the original manga so we got a special interview with Shoto Todoroki’s voice actor Yuki Kaji to discuss its importance!

The second one-on-one battle of the UA Sports Festival is Izuku versus Shoto Todoroki— and Todoroki is purposely not using his father’s flame Quirk. This is a must see episode with amazing action and drama, the lead character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi even took the role of animation director for this episode himself!

Special Interview with Yuki Kaji (Role: Shoto Todoroki)

Q: How has it been voicing Todoroki from season one until now?

Kaji: During season one, Todoroki was just this kind of mysterious character with a powerful Quirk and good fighting skills, just kind of a generically strong character. I had read the original manga and knew what would happen later in the story so tried to play his role conscious of why he was acting the way he was and filling in the blanks. So there wasn’t a big change for me between season one and season two. However, in season two we’re starting to see him show his emotions a bit more and his personality is becoming more clear, so it feels like I can finally play him the way I originally planned.

Q: What state of mind were you in when recording "Shoto Todoroki: Origin"?

Kaji: There are a lot of characters in My Hero Academia but there are only a few with speaking roles in this episode, which made it feel even more tense than usual. This was an episode I really enjoyed in the original manga and so I was really focused when I went in to record it. But Todoroki isn't the kind of character to openly display his emotions like Izuku is, so I was careful not to let my personal excitement and passion come out too much while recording-- especially for the first half of this episode.

Q: Todoroki is really aware of Izuku here.

Kaji: Todoroki is depicted as even more irritated by Izuku and his father Endeavor in the anime than he is in the original manga. So I am often directed to act that way. Todoroki hates his father Endeavor, who tried to forcefully raise him to be someone who could surpass All Might. As a result, he's also bothered by Izuku who has a connection with All Might, and Todoroki decides he wants to win against Izuku even though he feels a hint of contradiction inside of himself.

I think he's upset with himself and confused by his own actions because despite wanting to go against his father he's actually kind of doing exactly what he wanted. On top of that, he always thought he could easily win against Izuku and never saw him as a threat but then all of the sudden he felt incredible energy coming from Izuku’s Quirk. I think Izuku became someone he couldn't not be aware of after all that.

Q: What was it like acting one-on-one with Daiki Yamashita who plays Izuku?

Kaji: In the past I've had a lot of roles like Izuku, so it felt kind of new to be in an opposite kind of role like Todoroki playing against Yamashita-kun's Izuku. When acting I always start to get really excited but... Todoroki is Todoroki so I can't let it show (lol). Also, the sound director told Yamashita-kun "Think about how it feels facing up against your great rival, Kaji-san" to get him fired up but honestly that just put weird pressure on me (awkward smile). Yamashita-kun really came at me acting with an amazing energy, so I went all out in return.

Q: Todoroki has the same goal as Izuku, to become a hero.

Kaji: Yes, I believe Todoroki dreamed of being a hero when he was a child and looked up to All Might. Maybe he thinks that he can get one step closer to All Might by beating Izuku, who All Might has been giving special attention to. But if Todoroki hadn’t felt something from Izuku words, if he had never tried to overcome his relationship with his father and his past with his mother, I don’t believe he ever could have gotten closer to All Might even if he beat Izuku. I believe the wounds on Todoroki’s heart were painful, covered in a thick scab but still fresh and bleeding underneath. Todoroki ignored that scab up until now, but Izuku’s actions and words started to tear it off. So how will this change Todoroki? I hope you’ll watch and find out.

Q: How do you feel now that recording is over?

Kaji: I’m not sure... there's a scene in this episode that myself and I assume other fans of the original manga were really looking forward too, and the action and lines leading up to that scene are really exciting and emotional. But unlike Izuku, Todoroki isn't the type to yell and speak his mind. So I had to think of how to how to really show Todoroki's emotions at just that one point. I guess I ended up bewildered kind of like Todoroki himself, after the recording and even now it still feels kind of strange. But this episode is where Todoroki begins to change and maybe I'm changing along with him.

Q: Lastly, please send a message to all the viewers!

Kaji: I have been looking forward to the “Shoto Todoroki: Origin” episode and recording THAT line since I first found out I would be playing Todoroki. I’m sure fans of the original manga have really been looking forward to this episode as well. All of the cast and staff are overflowing with passion and love as we make the My Hero Academia anime.
