I just saw the leaks for the new My Hero Academia Season 6 OP and ED and oh my god I love them so much.
The OP highlights the dark elements of the upcoming arc and it is visually beautiful.  I can’t say much without spoiling a lot, but there is a lot to look forward to if Studio Bones gets this right.  There’s one long shot in particular that I am positive is animated by Nakamura.  I am getting a lot of Seasonn 3′s 1st OP vibes from it.  EVE also sings the OP song and he does an amazing song per usual.  I am so glad he’s getting the fame he deserves after his JJK OP.  The last Chainsaw Man ED he did was also amazing.  Dude is just giving us Ws these days.  I need to watch it again when it officially releases, but this might be one of the best MHA OPs Studio Bones has done.
The ED is actually making me scream, cry, shake, and throw up.  It’s so bittersweet because it‘s about Deku’s journey from the very beginning.  It basically shows his journey from his POV and the clips are all cherished memories Deku has of All Might and his friends.  The last shot is of him being the hero and leader he’s destined to be.  Our favorite 🥦 boy has come so far and I am both sad and so proud of him 🥹.  I love Deku so much, y’all.  The song by Six Lounge is also great too, tbh.  It fits the vibe of the ED very well.

“There's nothing guaranteeing tomorrow. We could die today or we could die 60 years from now. Either way there's never enough time to do everything we want. With that in mind...I'm gonna...” -          Akira Tendou, Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (Ep. 01)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 30-31, 2024.
With a zombie apocalypse striking Tokyo, Akira is freed from the toxic environment of his former job to complete his bucket list of things he wants to do, as Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead makes its premiere on Toonami.
On Twitter, #Toonami trended in the United States alongside Ninja Kamui, Zom 100, and Lycoris Recoil. #Toonami also trended on Tumblr.
This past Monday marked the 12th anniversary of “The Night no 90’s Kid Slept.” When on April Fools Day 2012, what was originally thought was another rerun of The Room turned out to be a sudden revival of Toonami after being cancelled for over four years. Thanks to incredible fan support, the block would be resurrected for real nearly two months later, which has now surpassed the lifespan of its original 1997-2008 run. Here’s to many more years of Toonami to come.

Last week, Toho Animation released a new trailer for the upcoming 7th season of My Hero Academia, which will begin airing on May 4th. You can see an English translated version of the trailer below. In addition, four special recap episodes titled My Hero Academia: Memories, will be airing weekly beginning on April 6 and through the weeks up to the season premiere. As with previous seasons, Crunchyroll will simulcast the new season and will be producing dubs for season 7.
youtube
Toho has also announced this morning that a new My Hero Academia film is also in the works. Titled “You’re Next”, the film will be premiering in Japanese theaters on August 2, 2024. Plans for a release stateside have yet to be revealed as of this writing.

On Tuesday, the anime world bid adieu to Funimation, as Sony has shut down the FunimationNow service (with funimation.com now redirecting to crunchyroll.com), completing its merger with Crunchyroll. Funimation is one of Toonami's long time media partners, going back as far as when DBZ first aired on the block in 1999.
And on that note, if you missed it, I posted an Op-Ed this week titled "The 2020’s Anime and Streaming Service Bubble Burst," as I look into the controversies regarding the Warner Bros Discovery merger, the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger, their respective effects on Toonami, and how what's going on with both could lead to another anime bubble burst, and one for streaming services overall.

final thoughts · fall 2022
since i know there're people who like to read my opinions on the different seasons, here you have my thoughts on this (HOLY SHIT OMG WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???????????) season.
akiba meido sensou (7.5/10)
so, i never meant to watch this show. i thought it would be just another CGDCT slice of life where maids do their maid stuff, and they have fun... I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS THO. this series is crazy, like, the first ep starts with a maid being shot in the head like ??????? and then ranko (best girl imo) starts shooting this rival maid group along with a cutsie song like ??????????????? i was both confused and charmed. this anime is such a blast, it's filled with twists and turns, random shit that it's bizarre but it also makes so much sense. i can't fully explain it, you need to watch it.
akuyaku reijou nano de last boss wo kattemimashita (4/10)
dear lord the toxicity here is astronomical. the way i was looking for a hamefura replacement and i ended up getting this... i feel scammed. this was meant to be a fantasy romance story, but it ended up being a contest to see who's the most toxic person in the relationship. between throwing someone out of a flying carriage just to see them cry and almost stabbing someone on the crotch because they want to break off their engagement with you... i don't know who's worse. they totally deserve each other.
blue lock (8.5-8/10)
i cannot decide myself on what rating i should give to it. while i do love bllk and think is one of the best sports series i've ever read, 8-bit's adaptation is... interesting. while i did think the first episode was amazing, the visual level just started dropping. some of the hand-drawn animation looks weird, and the cgi sometimes looks like it has been taken from a mobile game. i have mixed feelings with these series; while it's still fun and interesting, it just doesn't kick me as much in the chest as the manga does. if you wanna start bllk, please read the manga first.
bocchi the rock! (6.5/10)
as i said before, i'm not a big fan of CGDCT, and this series is just that. i was into the music part of the series and bocchi's social phobia (which, as someone who went through it, i think it's a pretty good representation), but it's still not my cup of tea. it bores me at times, and i'm the one to blame. it's not bad, it's just not my thing. if you're into this kinda stuff, i fully recommend it.
boku no hero academia 6 (8/10)
NOW THAT IS A GOOD SEASON. this one's adapting one of (if not the) best arcs in the series and hell yeah i'm hyped. in case someone hasn't started it, i won't spoil anything. i'll just tell you to please not worry about the quality: the art, animation and everything in general is being tretaed with so much thought and love. i'm just so happy to see all of them back!
boku no roboco (4/10)
(at this point, i've only watched two eps. my opinion on the series may change) i know the manga is popular, i know it makes a lot of anime references. i wanted to try giving it a chance and oh lord. first, it's difficult to find. second, it isn't even funny. if i'm not dropping it is because the episodes are short and fuck it. but not because you make a shit tone of anime references means that you're gonna be funny.
c danchi (1/10)
chainsaw man (9/10)
i'll just leave this here and go on with my life.
GUYS. GUYS. IT'S FINALLY HERE. BABE'S FINALLY HERE. AND OH LORD SHE'S LOOKING AMAZING. i've been waiting for this series for so long, (since it first got announced like holy fuck the feels). i have the entire part one on my bookshelf and it brings me so much joy (and tears and trauma and—) to finally see it animated. the animation, the art, the music, the voices— everything is just fantastic, perfect even. the op is a banger and each and every ed is just so good (some better than others imo). i'm so happy mappa were the ones that took the project like omg thanks mappa but fr fr. if i'm not giving it a higher note is because i'm afraid that would be my inner fangirl speaking so yeah. my children look perfect, that's enough for me. and fuck those who complain about the cgi istg—
cool doji danshi (7/10)
just a pretty chill slice of life short series about a bunch of dorks trying to survive in the wild. they're all so relatable and idk what to think about it. babe's also pretty absent-minded, so this is pretty comfy to me... is this how #representation feels like? besides that, there's not much to say about it since it's just... that. they exist, and i'm happy they do.
do it yourself!! (5/10)
how many times have i said i don't like CGDCT series? many times, but i still go and watch them. why? because i'm dumb ig. it's just a series about a bunch of girls doing bricolage, that's pretty much it.
fumetsu no anata e 2 (8/10)
second season of "don't get attached to the cast because they're all going to die". at this rate, i think i'm made of stone because i haven't shead a tear in the entire series. i'm also getting use to the show's formula (introduce new character → make you feel attached to them → kill them), so ig that's also why i don't feel that sad anymore? idk, i do feel sad but not that sad yk. anyway, is as good as the first season so you should give it a try.
fuufu ijou, koibito miman. (6.5/10)
i started not liking the series (the male mc was annoying to me and i felt like he would only see the girls by their "personality"), but i ended up getting attached in some sort of way? it's an easy to watch, funny romcom that, even if it's nothing special, will entertain you for the time being.
kage no jitsuryokusha ni naritakute! (5.5/10)
i like the idea, but not the execution. i mean, kinda. it started being a parody of isekai series, but i feel like isekai is slowly but surely eating the show alive. i'm not that interested on the plot and the ecchi scenes and comments are... something. to give you some example: there was this scene where these girls would pose in ways others could check their breasts better and perceive them as bigger than their opponent's. or maybe the many comments they do about the protagonist's dick being a fricking sword????? umm not thank you.
koukyuu no karasu (7/10)
a historical fantasy shoujo series with interesting plot points and a cute romance?? hell yeah, count me in! each and every character is lovable af and trust me when i tell you you'll never get bored. the art is so cute and comfortable (idk how to explain it), and the romance is just... i just want them to date already, am i asking too much? definitely give it a chance.
mairimashita! iruma-kun 3 (8/10)
new iruma season and the first one i'm watching as it's coming out. the children are back and more chaotic than ever in this new arc (the best one yet, from what i heard). i just can't stress enough how this series makes me feel, how comfy it makes me feel. i've connected with the characters in such a way it just makes me smile every time each and every single one of them just appears on the screen. i'm so excited to see who'll win! (no spoilers please)
mob psycho 100 III (8.5/10)
this isn't the last season. no, i refuse to accept it. even though many characters are getting their closures and all this chaos is going on and every wish of them to have a happy life has turned to ash. this is not the end. and that never happened. no. just. leave me alone.
mushikaburi-hime (6/10)
so, they're trying to bring historical shoujos back and while we did get some interesting results (koukuuu no karasu), we also got series like mushikaburi-hime. the series is about a girl who is obssesed with books and a dude that isn't, but because he likes her he's up to deal with that little trait of hers. and... that's pretty much it. the series revolves around their relationship (which sometimes turns a bit toxic due to the male mc). the female mc hasn't progressed in over ten episodes, she won't progress now. if you're interested, there it is. but it's not a series i would recommend.
renai flops (7/10)
i said it before: i love shitshows. this one seemed to be a parody on ecchi, harem series which caught my eye. i mean, the first ep involves the dog scene which is one of the most bizarre scenes i've seen on any romcom. at first, i was gonna watch it for the laughs from how bad it all was, but then the second half happened and it changed my view on the series. from a parody that makes things absurd on purpose to something else. i would recommend anyone who's interested to watch it and please, do not spoil yourself.
shinobi no itokki (4/10)
this show is about a dude who goes to high school and he gets confessed to by a girl he doesn't know. only that it wasn't a confession but a trap, because that girl was a ninja and was trying to kidnap him. but he's able to runaway because he has all these ninja abilities that his mother forced him to learn and never questioned why. and then his mum tell him they're actually ninjas and now he has to go to this ninja school that's literally a high school building in the middle of nowhere like ????? i thought ninjas were discreet???? except no one cares about the school because then someone (don't ask, don't remember) gets betrayed and blames the dude's clan and shit happens and wth is going on????
spy x family part 2 (8.5/10)
part two of this very wholesome but also very fake family! their shenanigans are as crazy as they were in part one, and we got introduced to our queen, fiona. also, the main fake couple are growing closer due to the mission and i think that's pretty cool now get married for real this time.
tensei shitara ken deshita (6/10)
just your average isekai with better than average animation and a wholesome bond between both leads. besides that, i have no much to say about it. i absolutely adore fran and amanda, but the whole idea of fran being op almost from the start is frustrating. i wanna see her grow, but this left me kinda cold.
urusei yatsura (6.5/10)
many people were hyping this show, and i do understand why. after all, it's pretty rough fighting against nostalgia. still, even though the visuals are so cute and the op and ed are pretty good, it just shows the series it's an old one. the comedy falls flat at times along with some characters, although it's still enjoyable. i don't know if i'll keep on watching the second season, but for now i don't feel like dropping it.
uzaki-chan wa asobitai! ω (6/10)
so, uzaki is back. the first season has never been one of my favorites, but i decided to give the second season a try and watch it as it was coming out and... well, it's uzaki. for some of y'all it may be hilarious, but to me it's just fine. it's boring most of the time, although i do like the idea of the mcs dating (please do so for fuck's sake). if you're into this kind of comedy, you should give it a try.

Dust Watched: Boku no Hero Academia Season 6
Genres: Shounen // 25 episodes // S01 (x) | S02 (x) | S03 (x) | S04 (x) | S05 (x) | M01 (x) | M02 (x) | M03 (x)
AND we’re back, baby!
✧  story  ✧
After the incredibly tepid and almost entirely filler that was Season 5, we desperately needed something to kick us back into gear. That season ended setting up the events of the War Arc which Season 6 immediately jumps into without any hesitation.
The whole season keeps a quite fast pace with fewer filler arcs than usual. The first half of the season focuses on the beginning and first day of the War Arc. The heroes form a plan and attack the Meta Liberation Army from 2 different locations at the same time. While things seem to be going well, everything soon goes to shit and the battle culminates in 1 final location with all our biggest players present.
After that whole shitshow, there’re a few uneventful but still important episodes mostly focusing on the past of certain characters.
And the 2nd half of the show covers Deku’s rebellious phase as he decides to set out on his own.
I know that most people already know the events of the season from the manga but I’m keeping most of it as vague as possible for those who don’t because Oh My Gosh, this season absolutely slaps.
So many long awaited iconic scenes this season that BONES did 100% effort into. The pace is fast, there’s a lot of action, a lot of conflicting feelings AND-
✧  characters  ✧
A lot of “MY BLORBO!!!” screamed either in delight or despair. Or both. While Class A (with the exception of the main 3) are kind of shafted in the first half (the odds were highly against them but still), they get some spotlight in the Deku’s arc. We get a lot of important info on the Todoroki family, thanks to a certain someone’s reveal, which I thought was incredibly important. The show has been trying to redeem Endeavour for a while now so it could’ve been easy to kind of.. forget, or downplay his abusive behaviour in the past but these flashbacks show us even more what kind of a person he was back then.
Some side characters like certain previous OFA users and Hawks also get some focus.
And of course Bakugou’s character development (especially regarding our dear broccoli boy) was SO good and needed. It was just so.... I’ve no words, truly.
✧  art  ✧
It’s BONES. Great fight scenes, and animation and all that. This is what they’re known for after all. If I had to nitpick, the colour pallette was kind of dull for most of the anime. The big fight scene of the 1st arc takes place in a basically completely brown area and the 2nd arc has this fugly dark filter on cause they made it Moody and Depressing. I mean, it fits, but it’s still not all too appealing to look at for multiple episodes.
✧  sound ✧
OP/EDs were great but not my favourites from the franchise. The VAs did a fantastic job as usual.
✧  overview ✧
Things don’t seem to be slowing down for the next season either so I’m excited! Leggooo!
My Rating: 9/10

This is going to be a universe as to where Nuriko is basically isekai-ed from Fushigi Yuugi to My Hero Academia--because it makes sense for the Suzaku Warrior who has super human strength to be pushed towards MHA.
Chou Ryuuen is his real name and will be referred to as Ryuuen as such. However, Nuriko will be his hero name. When I do RP with him, I’ll be using Ryuuen unless otherwise stated or in battle.
He has an older brother named Rouko and a younger sister named Kourin. Mom and dad are alive--Rouko moved across the country to bounce around and help people. Nuriko is currently in college and Kourin is in high school, living with their parents.
His quirk didn’t show up until he entered he was about 7-8 years old.
Nuriko’s powers are different from his siblings and parents: Kourin and their mother have a transformation quirk--they have needles in their fingers that help them sew faster (a la helping with surgeries or fix clothes, the list goes on). Rouko and their father have an emitter quirk--they can emit their emotions and change the weather (a la if they are sad, it rains--if they are happy, it’s sunny--if they are scared, it’s dark, etc).
Nuriko does keep his long hair through out the first few seasons of MHA--he cuts his hair short when he realizes that the villains are getting the upper hand and fears for his family’s life. Wants to try to hide his identity the best he can.
Up until season 6, Nuriko does not recall memories of his past life as a Suzaku Celestial Warrior. He knows he was just born with the quirk of superhuman strength. He has learned how to throw some punches, too, as a back up since he considers his quirk half attack and half support (maybe an emitter or other type of quirk class?).
He does get a support item that are like gauntlets that help his hands from getting sore quicker while holding items for a long time, as shown below. Attack power stays the same.
Tumblr media
When he does get attack by villains later on, and almost dying, he has a quirk awakening and gets a power boost, able to pick up heavier objects. This is when he retrieves his memories of his past life as a Suzaku Warrior. And makes sense as to why his power is different from his family.
His power goes from 100% to 200% and can act on that with full power. It’s as if his body has been reenergized. He will also have the character for   柳  on his chest, just like in the anime, and will be there until he dies.
Nuriko eventually wants to reunite with lost friends, but is unsure if they are even alive--but knows reincarnation exists for a reason.
If anything changes, I’ll add on to this. :D

Hello and welcome to my final post! Here I’ll be talking about my Top 10 Favourite anime EDs. I was more excited to make this list than the OP and OST combined, and I’ll be a lot more emotional for this list. I think it’s because I know exactly what EDs I’m listing and what place I would give them that gives me that excitement. As for the OP list, there will be spoilers ahead, so skip to avoid if you don’t wish to see any. Enjoy!
I made all the gifs in this post!
Honourable Mentions for EDs that didn’t make the cut (extra!) :
Attack on Titan - S2 ED3, S4 ED7
“Yuugure no Tori”, “Akuma no Ko”
Carole and Tuesday - S1 ED1
“Hold Me Now”
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - S4 ED4
“Scandal”
Inuyasha - S1 ED2
“Fukai Mori”
The Seven Deadly Sins - S1 ED
“7 -seven-”
Blood Blockade Battlefront - S1 ED1
“Sugar Song to Bitter Step”
Now onto the chosen ones!
10. Beastars - Yasashii Suisei
My god, they took the budget for the second season OP and gave it all to the ED. What an amazing ED it is. The animation is stunning, and I love its sketchy, watercolour style, making it one of the more unique EDs on the list. Yoasobi’s here to claim her stake on both the OP and ED, and she more than delivers for both. It’s such a heartbreaking ED as well, foreshadowing the kind of monster Louis forces himself to become, and Ibuki watching as his young master begins to lose himself. We see him also coming face to face with his carnivorous biology, unable to change anything about his nature or DNA. It also foreshadows his death! Wow! Thanks for making me want to die! Father figure Ibuki rest in peace my king.
Tumblr media
9. Dr. Stone - Voice?
WOW!!!! I LOVE IT WHEN ANIME CHARACTERS RUN!!!! The song is an absolute bop, I was tempted to skip this ED when I was watching but I was curious to listen to the song, so I stuck around and I’m glad I did! It was stuck in my head for ages. This definitely isn’t the most impressive ED on here but I love how it foreshadows Senku running with his flash grenade to blind Homura, what a thrill!
Tumblr media
8. My Hero Academia - Datte Atashi no Hiro
Yeah!!!! LiSA!!!! The iconic fantasy AU ED!!!! This ED unleashed so many fanfic ideas and artwork, I think they should just make another anime with the same cast in a fantasy world. I say that’s much more interesting than hero society. But enough about that, THE SONG!!! THE COLOURS!!! THE FUN AND WHIMSY!!! They just want you to enjoy this ED, and maybe go WOOOOOAAAAAAAH when you see Midoriya swinging his Ex-All Might-ibur.
Tumblr media
7. Violet Evergarden - Michishirube
Wow. The way this ED made me sob during the mother daughter letters episode. Hearing “Michishirube” being sang has me screaming and wailing. I used to skip this ED but after that episode, I made it compulsory to listen to it. I don’t have much to say, because I’m listening to the ED while writing this, and if I continue I’m going to be unable to do anything else for crying too hard.
Tumblr media
6. Ouran High School Host Club - Shissou
[dies] WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE THAT GUITAR RIFF IS RELIGIOUS. YES YOU DON’T GET TO HEAR IT IN THE ED BUT GO AHEAD AND LISTEN TO THE FULL SONG!!! I like this song over the OP, I don’t give a shit about your “kiss kiss fall in love” this is the true best song. This song is just such a nostalgic song, it’s the perfect song to run to. Or chase a certain blond anime boy to…. Get up and dance to it when you hear it! I can’t say I like the artwork in the background but who cares when you can just dance around or sing along without paying attention. The Japanese and the English are both phenomenal in their own way, but don’t get me started on “Just as long as you move you’ll be okay!”. I will throw up and cry.
Tumblr media
5. My Hero Academia - Heroes
ANIME! BOY! RUNNING!!!! And another MHA ED! Imma say it: I prefer all the MHA EDs to the OPs. I love them so much!! But let’s talk about this ED. This song has that nostalgic, emotional thing going for it already and MHA isn’t even finished yet. Knowing how far Midoriya has come, and that once obtaining his dream seemed as impossible as reaching a star, I want to scream and cry knowing that his dream is so close now. I love when he wipes away his tears and at the very end we see the beach that he cleaned gleaming in the morning sun. The song itself is just so catchy and I can’t think of a better ED for the show than this.
Tumblr media
4. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Uso
Haha, I made a post about this song before! I was screaming over the lyrics! BOKURA SAYONARA!!! The first time I saw the very simplistic, childlike animation I was shocked. Hang on, why is Studio Bones slacking? Where’s my sexy sakuga ED? Then you get to the end and see why it’s so simple because it’s literally drawn by child Ed and Alphonse. Hear that? That’s the sound of my heart crumbling to dust. Love this song to bits, and I love singing along whenever I hear it come on, amazing first ED for FMAB.
Tumblr media
3. Hunter X Hunter - Hyori Ittai
I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me that this isn’t the most gorgeous ED you’ve ever witnessed. You get to see the original four standing in that anime sub space that all other anime characters can be found in. Then you get to see the most gorgeous celestial events reflected in the water as time passes by impossibly fast, our main four hardly bothered. Then the sun rises once again, and Leorio looks back at us — or Kurapika maybe. We then are rewarded with one final shot of the four of them at the start of their journey, caught in a picture framed on Leorio’s wall. Enough to have me choking back a sob. Absolutely devastating Thinking harder about the OP, you can see Gon is further ahead than Killua and Leorio who seem to be at an almost equal distance. Kurapika, who is set further back than them, shows how much distance has grown between the group that was as close as family at one point. Quite literally, both Killua and Leorio are unable to reach Gon or Kurapika. Kurapika being behind the group, suggests he is stuck in his past, incapable of moving forward to rejoin them. Gon being further ahead shows how he has fixated on his future - trying to reach his father and obtain all the power that he will ever have in his life.
Tumblr media
2. Toilet Bound Hanako-kun - Tiny Lights
As I said before in my Top 10 OSTs list, I would put on a piano rendition of this song and sob uncontrollably in my maths class. I basically Pavlov dog trained myself to cry on command when it hits a certain point. This song kills me with its symbolism. Having read part of the manga, knowing that Nene is so close to death, toeing the line between the shore of the living and dead breaks my heart. When Mitsuba died and his and Kou’s paths crossed in the ED, leaving only a camera behind, I simply shattered into fragments. Don’t get me started on when Hanako fails to capture fish-ified Nene, managing to rescue her while falling deeper into the water. Absolutely devastating. This song is so beautiful and so emotional, it really is a thing of wonder in it’s simplicity. It would have easily been in first place, but there was always one ED that was going to take that spot. Excuse me while I sob dramatically for the next hour.

1. Hunter x Hunter - Hyori Ittai
Wow, the same ED in the same tier list? Yes! This. This is a masterpiece. I have added at least 500 views to Yuzu’s YouTube video. Go listen to this song so we can give it the views it deserves. I couldn’t put the second half of the whole song before the first half, the first half of the ED was what hooked me in the first place. This is my all time favourite song ever. This song changed my life for the better. It erased all the problems I had at that time. Nothing comes close to this song, this is in a league that transcends this world. Mere emotions aren’t strong enough to convey what this song does to you. When I heard them sing “Hyori Ittai” for the first time and saw those Gungi pieces flip, I fell so damn hard, that I’m still falling without any signs of stopping. I would happily rewind time to go back and listen to this song for the first time.

FEATURE: The Top 10 Fight Scenes Of 2021 According To YOU!
Tumblr media
When writing an article reviewing any aspect of a medium in review, it’s hard not to come away with the impression that “this year was a good one” for whatever the subject of your piece may be, but nevertheless, I believe 2021 has treated us quite well when it comes to animated battles. Black Clover and JUJUTSU KAISEN’s respective climaxes, BORUTO’s manga arc, One Piece’s build toward the Onigashima conflict, and a ton of smaller offerings meant we had huge battles to look forward to every month! With that in mind, a Top 10 article covers nearly the entire year?
Much like this article’s companion pieces on 2021’s OPs and EDs, what follows is a list of the Top 10 fight scenes of 2021 as determined by viewership on the Crunchyroll Collection YouTube channel, weighted at 30 days so anime from earlier in the year don’t get an advantage and to balance flash-in-the-pan popularity vs iconic moments that will continue on in the fandom’s consciousness.
What follows is 2021’s top fight scenes as determined by YOU!
  10. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - Hakuro vs Kyouya
youtube
I knew Tensura was gonna make it onto this list but gotta say I’m surprised this is the fight that did it. My money would have been on Shion delivering an entire knuckle submarine sandwich to the back of Clayman’s head. I suppose there is something to say for this fight being one of the first to finally break an excruciatingly slow build-up to the hotly anticipated Tempest counterattack and watching the slimey Kyoya, in particular, get torturously put down was a major shot of cathartic schadenfreude after watching his group sadistically set the stage for the attack on Tempest. Hakuro’s revenge collected 1M views in 30 days!
  9. Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S - Tohru vs Ilulu
youtube
Kyoto Animation can do it all, delivering one of the best comedy slice-of-life series of the year that also has some truly spectacularly animated battles. After the insane “roughhousing” and dodgeball scenes from Season 1 we all knew to expect awesome fights in S. Although Tohru’s long-anticipated battle against Elma may have been the most destructive, it didn’t carry with it the same anticipation as the introduction of the new antagonist dragon Ilulu. Ilulu getting her house burnt down hit 1.2M views in 30 days!
  8. My Hero Academia - Himiko Toga vs Liberation Army
youtube
Much like Tensura, I gotta say I’m surprised this is the fight that caught popular attention although Himiko has always been a fan favorite (are you all OK?) among MHA fans and one who hasn’t really gotten a proper fight. While I’m still not sure this exactly counts, this might be the single biggest body count created by a single attack in My Hero Academia up until this point and it was done copying the Quirk of a character firmly in the “support type” category. Himiko also awakening her Quirk is a big character moment so maybe it was that? Maybe it was just the title? The race between these next three was mega tight, with each hitting 1.3M views in days.
  7. To Your Eternity - Fushi vs Oniguma
youtube
While To Your Eternity is unquestionably a masterpiece of fantasy and dramatic storytelling, I didn’t expect Yoshitoki Oima’s meditation upon mortality to make this list. Nevertheless, it seems Fushi’s battle as an immortal wolf vs the god bear Oniguma attracted interest for some reason. Although almost tragic in the manner in which the mighty bear is worn down by the relentless attacks of a wolf that instantly heals a variety of fatal wounds, Ryo Kawasaki’s amazing musical accompaniment deliver the impact of the scene as it irrevocably changes the course of fate for all who witness it.
  6. Black Clover - Asta and Yami vs Dante
youtube
Part three of my year in review article, and also part three of me talking about how great 2021 was for Black Clover, a series that was always fantastic but took a while to draw the attention that it deserved. When the power scale of the anime started increasing all the most important battles got tremendous fights which developed a strong visual language for Black Clover’s style of combat that some other battle anime never quite nail down. Yami is one of those characters that always got the A+ treatment from his very first battle against Licht, so Asta stepping up to fight alongside the captain of the Black Bulls as an equal was a huge moment that got a huge episode-long battle that blew out the choreography from the manga and displayed Asta growing from a liability in the early battle to the key to victory at the very end. If anything, this should be higher.
  5. Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles - Rio vs Assassin
youtube
Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles isn’t slacking in the fight department but something about his first battle definitely stands out. A small child receiving a fantasy position that instantly downloads martial arts into his brain Matrix-style to embarrass a magically-boosted assassin is definitely up there in the embarrassing one-sided beatdown department. Since most of the first season was setting up major villains Rio will likely battle later on, this quick skirmish definitely stood out against his more muted conflicts building toward true action of the story (although him fighting his own imaginary girlfriend was also pretty funny). Rio beating up this sorry guy got 1.4M views in 30 days!
  4. TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- - Makoto vs Demon Army
youtube
I’m gonna level with you: I have watched every single isekai without exception for the past five years. This genre holds very few surprises for me, but TSUKIMICHI -Moonlit Fantasy- still found plenty of ways to charm me. Maybe it was nostalgia from the Tenchi Muyo! energy of the two disasters Tomoe and Mio or the Tensura-esque homeliness of Makoto’s monster village led by the ultra-charming Saori Hayami-voiced Emma. The series threw me a curveball when it became a fantasy mercantile adventure and then ANOTHER curveball when it suddenly busted out this insane fight scene in the final episode featuring Makoto dropping the proverbial weights to deliver an attack so devastating the collateral damage destroyed an entire demon army I’m not entirely certain he was even aware was present. Definitely looking forward to Season 2. Makoto grabbed 1.5M views in 30 days!
  3. JUJUTSU KAISEN - Megumi Fushiguro vs Special Grade Curse
youtube
My fellow Fushiguro fans, it’s our year. Although the second half of JUJUTSU KAISEN included Itadori and Todo exchanging supernatural high fives while doing battle with a flower monster and what can only be described as an anime music video of Itadori and Nobara going back to back against Kechizu and Eso, Fushiguro’s battle against the special grade curse took the top spot for this series this year. Sukuna knew all along Fushiguro was destined for greatness and seeing Megumi test himself by expanding his shikigami summoning powers into a giant inky pool of nightmare beasts was an awesome moment that promises some stellar fights in the future. The numbers start ramping up from here with Fushiguro collecting 2.7M views in 30 days!
  2. One Piece - Roger vs Whitebeard
youtube
The Wano arc has been a revelation for One Piece fans. The series has been accelerating upward the past few years with a noticeable uptick in quality over the course of Whole Cake that also introduced a number of novel art styles — Wano came in with a whole visual overhaul and countless indulgent battle cuts during the early skirmishes of the arc. Oden’s backstory turned this up to 11, and rightly so, as it featured two of the world's greatest pirates in their prime. Although not a conclusive battle, One Piece had to show the titanic collision of power that was Roger and Whitebeard simply crossing weapons to let us all know what the power ceiling of the Grand Line really looks like. This titanic clash hit 5.3M views in 30 days!
  1. BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS - Kawaki vs Garo
youtube
BORUTO was a shoo-in for best battle of the year, 2021 being maybe the best year of a franchise that indisputably delivers the best battles of its genre. In fact, if I didn’t limit this list to one fight per IP, 9 out of the top 10 would all be BORUTO. One might expect the excellent hand-to-hand battle between Baryon Mode Naruto and Otsutsuki Isshiki to stand head and shoulders above all others. Nay. While I personally believe that will be the more enduring battle, it’s Kawaki vs Garo that takes the top prize, and y’know what? Good. This episode dropped to triumphantly kick off the BORUTO anime’s return to the manga storyline with a movie-quality episode featuring Kawaki showing us what karma can really do climaxing with one of the most merciless executions the Naruto franchise has ever seen. Kawaki’s entrance into the BORUTO universe scored 5.7M views in 30 days!
Those were the best battles of 2021 according to you and, consequently, the last of this series of Top 10 lists for the year. Next year is looking bright with Onigashima having made its way to the roof, more BORUTO manga content on the horizon, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc heating up! Not to mention new titles like Chainsaw Man and SPY x FAMILY and returning champions such as Attack on Titan promising some beautifully animated battles!
That does it for 2021. Hope to see you all at the same time next year.

Fandom Mini-Reviews: Ranking My Hero Academia OPs S1-4
You ever get a sudden urge to just...rank anime OPs of long running franchises you follow? Well, this is one of those.
I’m going to be ranking the current OPs from My Hero Academia seasons 1-4. I’m basing these off my own personal opinion on how much I enjoy the OPs and how well I think they fit the show overall, ranking them from least favorite to most favorite. And I’ll do my best to keep this brief.
This is my own silly personal opinion, and how you rank them is going to be very different from how I do. And that’s totally okay.
Also, since Tumblr has a limit on how many videos can be added, I’m going to have to just add the top 5 videos and embed link the rest.
And of course, Spoilers ahead for anyone not caught up.
With that, let’s get started.
7) OP 7: Starmaker
Not a bad OP in and of itself. The song is catchy and the animation is fantastic. However, given the heaviness of the arc just before it and the weird pacing of the season overall makes this OP a little hard for me to to enjoy, as it feels way too sharp of a tone change. Still a bop though.
6) OP 1: The Day
A wonderful OP in both song and animation, and iconic in that it was the best foot forward the series could make in terms of getting people hooked on the series. I just like the other OPs a little bit more.
5) OP2: Peace Sign
youtube
Probably one of the most popular out of all the OPs, and a great OP at that. It gives a lot of characters a chance to shine and gets us pumped up for what’s to come for all of them. This one lives up to its hype. Had you asked me 6 months ago, this would have been a little higher on the list.
4) OP 5: Make My Story
youtube
This one was a close call, but I decided this one should be in the #4 spot because it’s just a delight. I’ll admit, it wasn’t exactly my favorite for a while, but coming back to it every so often has made it grow on me. It basically takes everything I loved about Peace Sign and multiplied it by 10.
3) OP 6: Polaris
youtube
This one was another very close call, but I have to say Polaris takes the #3 spot. Th animation was nice and the song and visuals complimented each other and the arc very well. But I feel like it was just missing that “oomph” factor to really take it the distance.
2) OP 3: Sora ni Utaeba
youtube
For the longest time, this one was my favorite of all the OPs. The animation is amazing and the song just struck all the right cords with me, really highlighting the direction the story was going to go in a way that felt organic an natural. I could listen to this one on repeat for hours.
1) OP 4: Odd Future
youtube
WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH THIS ONE? First of all, it’s UVERworld, and if they do the OP or ED for anything, I am bound to give it a chance. Second, the animation is probably at its best here, with the fluid movements and amazing synergy with the music. And third, it just perfectly encapsulates everything My Hero Academia is about and gets you hyped. A perfect OP for one of my absolute favorite arcs in the whole anime.
And that’s my list. How do you rank the OPs? Would you like to see me do the EDs? Are there other series you’d like me to see OP rankings for, even if I haven’t seen the anime?  Let me know!
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and I hope you all have an awesome day.
