The Crown - Steve Harrington
Tumblr media
word count: 4462 warnings: dedicated to @high-functioning-fangirl02 <3
You’d give your life to protect these kids.
These kids you’ve known since you started babysitting them in the sixth grade.  Back when Mrs Henderson hired you to watch Dustin.  Which essentially meant that you’d watch all of them.  But that was alright, over the past seven years of being their designated babysitter, you’d grown to love them all.
Mike Wheeler, the snarky little love-struck shit that you spent grieving with since losing Eleven.  Lucas Sinclair, the sweet boy with the occasional attitude whom you helped construct his Ghostbusters costume. Will Byers, the full time sweetheart that made you cookies for Valentine’s Day after hearing you complain about being dateless.  And of course Dustin, cute little button nosed Dusty with a trash mouthing tendency, whom looked up to you like a role model.
Hell, you were their role model.  Driving them to and from school, covering for them on late nights so they could finish their D&D tournaments.  Fiercely protecting them a year ago when Hawkins was Demogorgon infested.  Standing up for them when you’d see some upperclassmen picking on them.
Those who dared glance the wrong way towards The Party in your presence, were rumored to run home crying with a bleeding nose and terrified shriek.  You never put down the rumors… because maybe it had happened once or twice…
Over time The Party was no longer just a band of middle schoolers.  It had opened up to their babysitter, being you, a senior girl who had not many other friends.  Nancy Wheeler, Jonathan Byers, which the boys always claimed was strictly because of family relations.  Not because Dustin was still harbouring a crush for Mike’s older sister.  The town Sheriff, Jim Hopper, who’d proved himself not to be an asshole, and turned out an alright guy.  Joyce Byers, whom you loved like a mother and whom treated you like her own daughter.  You’d frequently been titled ‘the daughter she wished to have had’ which always raised a snarky response from her sons.  Maxine (just Max.  Never Maxine) Hargrove, a high spirited and not your typical girl that you grew fond of easily.  Especially since she was nothing like her big brother.
And then there was Steve Harrington.  Who… really just was at the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up getting roped into the mess that Hawkins Lab had created.  King Steve, as you’d known him before you’d officially met last year by fluke accident, was always the popular boy that had a pretty girl hanging off his arm.  You weren’t sure why that changed so quickly, why he didn’t put himself out there as much as he used to, didn’t party hard anymore, wasn’t bragging about the new girl he was with that week like he was known for.  Maybe that day, when he walked into the Wheeler’s house right as you Nancy and Jonathan were awaiting the Demogorgon’s arrival, maybe he changed then.
Or maybe it was after he’d been sucked into… whatever this all was… and he changed to keep the secret.  Or maybe it was after Nancy had broken up with him, around the same time he started growing closer to Dustin.
But right now as you watched him directing the kids, you were more aware that he wasn’t King Steve anymore, that you had been before.  Sure, you’d realized somewhere along the way he was different.  But it wasn’t until now that you noticed it completely as it was.
“No listen you little shits, no one, is going anywhere” Steve ordered, holding a wash rag in his hand and pointing it between each of the boys, and girl, that stood in front of him.
“Friggin’ pointless just staying here” Dustin grumbled, walking out of the room whilst still muttering.  Mike groaned loudly, dramatically, and left to the living room with Max and Lucas.  You knew that he was still plotting you get out there tonight.  Consequences and dangers be damned.
You looked to Steve with a sigh, a lazy smile on your lips as you walked past him to go after Dustin.  He watched you go, letting out a breath as well as he put his hands on his hips and standing alone in the hall with his thoughts.
He’d give his life to protect these kids.
“Dusty?” You called gently as you walked into the kitchen, seeing Dustin sitting on the floor against the dishwasher.  Your brows furrowed as you sat across from him by the cabinets.  “You alright kiddo?”
“Would I be sitting in here brooding if I was?” He quipped, though you knew he meant well.
“Sweetheart you’re too adorable to be a brooder” You laughed softly, pulling your knees up slightly.  “A pouter maybe, but not a brooder”
“Thanks y/n” He responded dryly.  You rolled your eyes in response to his sarcasm.
“Come on kid, open up a little.  It’s me” Your words were soft, which did prompt Dustin to consider explaining to you his thoughts.  “Please? If we make it out of this alive I’ll take you to the arcade.  I’ve got a big jar full of quarters I’ve saved up-”
“Okay okay I’ll take the bribe” Dustin caved with a laugh that made your mood lighten.  “Look it’s gonna sound lame and cheesy but… everyone else is helping.  Jonathan and Nance and Mrs Byers and Hopper and Elle, but what am I doing?”
“You’re staying safe” Your answer came out instantly, but it didn’t seem to be the one the boy was looking for.
“No I’m not, I’m sitting on the sidelines, watching everyone else go be heroes and getting hurt.  I’m not doing a damn thing!”
“Hey” You hummed softly, and scooted over closer to put your head on his shoulder.  “You’re a hero Dustin.  Don’t tell yourself any differently.  All of you are, Mike too, and Lucas, and Max, and-”
“Steve?” Dustin offered, and you nodded, looking at him confusedly by the strange tone of voice he used.
“Of course, why’re you looking at me like that?”
“No reason” Dustin shrugged nonchalantly, brushing off the uncomfortable air between you both.
“Alright well, you should believe me” You continued.  “Even if you don’t think so, you’re all my heroes, got it Henderson?” The boy smiled and nodded, prompting you to push the cap of his hat down playfully before he could get up and leave the room.
“Mike’s probably still planning his attack” He told you, but you shrugged and waved a hand.
“Let him plot and brood” You said, and Dustin’s mouth fell open.
“How come Mike can brood but I can’t?” You rolled your eyes, still waving your hand for him to get out of here.
“Just go plot with him, I know you’re itching to” You said, and he grinned wide at you, glad you were letting him go plan their escape and attack.
“Thanks y/n!” He called, already racing out of the room.  “You’re the best!” You laughed, shaking your head as you stood back up and dusted off the pants of your overalls.  Steve came in a few moments later, watching you almost suspiciously.
“What?” You questioned, and he shrugged, shaking his head.
“Nothing.  Just wondering why you’re permitting them to conspire against us” He said.
“They’re not conspiring, they’re just discussing.  No harm in that”
“Um, every harm in that.  As in all of us, being harmed, because of that” He said, but you didn’t really seem to care what he thought about it.
“They’re fine, we’re all fine, don’t freak out so much mom” You said, walking out towards the kids and seeing them all circled up and discussing their big plan.
“I’m not a mom” Steve argued, and you chuckled, turning to see him, his dish rag on his shoulder, hands on hips.  It only made you laugh more.
“Mhm, alright.  Well then what would you call yourself?” You replied sarcastically, nodding towards his own stance, and making Steve second guess himself.
“This- you-! Alright whatever just stay away from the windows and go be safe somewhere” He muttered, walking into the living room where the kids were.  You rolled your eyes again, but couldn’t help the smile on your lips.
Perhaps, you thought, King Steve was the king of something else now.
You watched as he was waving his rag at the kids again, yelling at them for plotting behind his back, and reminding them that no one was going anywhere.  But even as Dustin pouted, Steve was rubbing his hand over the thirteen year old’s head.  Almost soothingly, like he felt bad for ending their little meeting.
“What a mom” You mumbled, and headed back into the kitchen for something to eat.
You used to resent Steve, back when he was the king of school and didn’t care about anything more than he cared about his popularity and his hair.  Back when he didn’t give a shit about pretty much anything.  And looking at him now and seeing him watch over these kids, you could physically feel your heart swelling.  If that isn’t character development, you weren’t sure what was.
You weren’t sure why it made you feel so bubbly either.
“Listen runts, we’re staying here, we’re staying safe, and we’re not dying!” Steve said, for what felt like the fifth time.  But Mike kept arguing back at him.
“Everyone else is out there!”
“Everyone else knows how to fight all that shit!” Steve retorted.  “We are staying, here” He repeated slowly, waving his rag between each word.  “You got that?”
“You’re just saying that cause y/n’s here.  If she wasn’t here, we’d all be getting in your car and going!” Lucas spoke up.  Your brows furrowed at that.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked, ignoring your search for food and now strutting into the room where everyone else was.  “Am I dragging you down?” You asked, almost sarcastic, but wondering what he’d actually meant by his announcement.  Were you dragging them down?
“No, Steve would just protect your ass over our asses” Max shrugged, and the others nodded.
“What the hell? Everyone here is protecting their own asses, I’m not getting killed for a bunch of kids!” Steve said, making flustered and jerky movements.  You brushed off their newly sprung argument over where Steve’s bat is swinging and who it’s swinging for.
Apparently, The Party was certain that he’d die for you, rather die for them.  But you didn’t care much about what they thought.  They’d always thought that you and Steve were meant to be some power couple, but you supposed it was just cause you were the same age and the kids only ever saw you two together.  There was no real evidence (as far as they showed) towards the ‘chemistry’ you and Steve supposedly had.
You wandered to the window, curiously looking out it with your arms wrapped around yourself.
“Will you just shut up?” Mike’s yelling made you jump a little, and you turned to see your friends all still arguing with each other.  You smiled slightly, meeting Steve’s eyes as he gave you a bored look.  You just laughed a little bit back at him.  Steve’s expression softened into a small smile.  Your face flushed with heat, and you nervously turned away from him to look back out the window again.
A light blinded you almost instantly, making you squint your eyes and put a hand over them to try and clear your vision.
“What the hell?” You muttered, leaning closer to the glass to see what was going on.  Headlights, there was a car here.  Someone was here.  “Steve?” You called, not turning away from the window.  He came over right away, looking outside to see a familiar Camaro parked in the driveway.
“Shit” He grumbled, walking towards the front door.
“What- where are you going? Who is it?” You asked, following quickly after him, but Steve quickly turned to make you stay back.
“Just stay in here-”
“Sinclair!” A voice hollered from outside, and you jumped, eyes widening as you recognized it.  “I know you’re in there!”
“Billy?” You whispered to Steve, who nodded.  You stepped backwards, eyes never leaving Steve’s.  “What’s he doing here?” Your voice was quiet.
Billy Hargrove, was the most vile, horrible person you’d ever met.  And his wicked ways of bending people to his will, shook you intensely to your core.  It was no secret to the others that Billy not only terrified you, but would seductively torture you every day.  Sure, you’d been picked on before, but this was different.  Every day he’d come to you, hoping to get something out of you, just to mess with you.
“Come on babe, a little kiss, just a little one, we can discuss the rest later”
“You don’t want to get a ride home with me and have some fun?”
“When’re you finally gonna give this up and just put out?”
You shuddered slightly, practically feeling his hot breath against your skin just thinking about the things he’s said to you.  Stopping you in the hallways, finding you at your locker, approaching you while you waited at Steve’s car for a ride home.
“I know you’re in there you little pig! Come out here or I’ll have to go in!” His voice was dangerous, threatening.  And you felt a legitimate fear for your life, and the kids’.
“It’s fine, you’re fine, I promise” Steve said quietly, out of earshot of the others.  “All of you stay here, stay away from the windows” He ordered, giving you one last look before you turned and went to The Party.  They needed you right now, all huddled around Lucas and Max to make sure if Billy were to look inside, he wouldn’t see them.
“Come on guys” You said softly, ushering them as far away from the window as you could.  Steve, on the other hand, opened the door and stepped outside.
Instead of hiding in a room, completely out of sight of the maniac, you all ducked under the windowsill to see what was happening.
“Am I dreaming or is that really you Harrington?” You felt your entire body quivering upon hearing Billy’s voice.  Dustin, who was crouched next to you, turned and gave you a worried look, but your eyes were dead set on the outside.
“Yeah it’s me, don’t cream your pants” Steve responded, walking out towards him as he pulled off his leather jacket.
“What’re you doing here amigo?” Billy asked, the cigarette hanging off his lips moving as he spoke.
“I could ask you the same thing” Steve responded, void of emotion.  “Amigo”
“Lookin’ for my step sister.  Little birdie told me she was here”
“Huh, that’s weird I don’t know her” Steve lied easily, and convincingly.  You prayed to God that Billy believed him.
“Small? Redhead?” Billy replied disbelievingly.  “Bit of a bitch?”
“Ashole” Max muttered to herself inside.
“Doesn’t ring a bell, sorry buddy” Steve replied, still not sounding like he cared even an inkling.  Billy nodded, taking out his cigarette.
“You know… I don’t how this, this whole situation Harrington is um.., it’s giving me the heebie jeebies” Billy said, looking at Steve a little more threateningly.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?”
“My thirteen year old sister goes missing all day, and then I find her with you” Billy pointed accusatory hands towards Steve, giving him a disgusted look.  “In a strangers house” He continued.  “And you lie to me about it” Steve chuckled bitterly, shaking his head and looking away for a moment.
“Yeah, maybe you were dropped too much as a child or what” Steve said snarkily.  But Billy just grinned his twisted grin and licked his tongue over the front of his teeth.  “I don’t know what you don’t understand about what I just said”
You felt a chill go down your spine as Steve’s protectiveness took over his tone.  Dustin beside you mumbling a quiet, “Holy shit”
“She’s not here” Steve said carefully.  Billy nodded, looking pointedly towards the window where you and The Party were all huddled and looking out of.
“Then who’s that?” He asked, pointing his cigarette towards his sister.
“Down!” You hissed, and the five of you dropped to the floor so fast you all groaned from the impact of the floor.
“Shit!” Dustin cursed.  “Did he see us?”
“Oh shit” Steve grumbled.  “Okay listen-” Billy pushed him to the ground before he could explain anything.  The boy kicked him, before storming up into the house.
“Well well well” Billy smirked, seeing you and The Party standing there together, you in front of all of them.  “y/n l/n, what a lovely little surprise” You grimaced, but he didn’t seem to care.  “And Lucas Sinclair, not so much a surprise at all” You moved over more in front of Lucas, who’s hands grabbed onto your arm out of fear.  “I thought I told you to stay away from him Max”
“Billy, go away” Max retorted, but her voice wavered.
“You disobeyed me” Billy leaned over his step sister tauntingly.  “And you know what happens when you disobey me” He added in a hushed, volatile voice.
“Billy-”
“I break things” He uttered, before pushing you aside, crashing your body into the wall.  Before slamming Lucas up against the cupboards.
“Billy stop!” Max and the others began to yell, Dustin rushing over to help you up, but you were already standing up on your own.
“Get off of me!” Lucas cried.
“Since Maxine won’t listen to me, maybe you will” Billy muttered.  “You stay away from her.  Stay-! Away from her” He yelled awkwardly.  “Do you hear me?”
“I said get off me!” Lucas screamed again, followed by a knee between Billy’s legs.  You gasped, feeling a moment of pride as Billy stumbled back and released him.
“You are so dead Sinclair!” Billy hollered.  “You’re dead-”
“No” Steve grabbed Billy by the shoulder, spinning him around roughly.  “You are” And with that he swung his fist and planted it hard enough against Billy’s jaw to make him topple over.
“Steve!” You yelped out of surprise.  He looked at you for a moment, nodding in reassurance as he shook out his hand.  It’d been a while since he’d hit anybody.  Billy stood back up, laughing menacingly.  “You’re a fucking psycho!” You screeched before you could stop yourself.
“Looks like you got some fire in you after all huh!?” He yelled at Steve.  “I’ve been waiting to meet this King Steve everybody’s been telling me so much about” He stepped closer to Steve, glaring at him.
“Get out” Steve muttered, pushing Billy’s chest lightly to move him away from him.  Billy stepped back and stood there for a moment.  And after a few seconds passed you were certain that he was going to stay back.
Until he swung swiftly at Steve, but missed as Steve ducked just in time.  You gasped, clapping your hands over your mouth in terror.  Steve stood back up and swung his fist again, hitting Billy and making him stumble again.
“Yes! Get him Steve!” Dustin cheered, and the others began to as well.  You couldn’t find yourself to say anything, just wince every time a punch was made.  Steve hit him two more times, and Billy ran into the kitchen sink.  Leaning back and wincing in pain.
“Kill him! Kill him!” Mike was yelling.  But Billy grabbed a plate of the counter, smashing it over Steve’s head, and making him fall to the ground.
“Steve!” You screamed now, taking long strides to get over to him, only to be pushed away by Billy.  Who hit Steve as soon as he stood up again.  He grabbed Steve by the shoulders, staring him down.
“No one.  Tells me what to do” He muttered angrily, and threw his head forward hard into Steve’s knocking him down again.
“Fucking hell” You mumbled, tears beginning to prick your eyes in fear that Billy was actually going to kill Steve.  The mullet wearing psycho leapt onto Steve, pinning him down and swinging punch after punch against his face.
“Stop it!” Mike yelled at the top of his lungs, but it did nothing to end Billy’s attack.
“Steve!” Dustin hollered.
You stood frozen, every scene in front of you soundless, and moving slowly.  You could only feel your heart in your chest, sending you into an anxiety attack, you were sure.  But it barely mattered to you in that moment.  You turned away, and your eyes landed on something.
The syringe used on Will earlier.
Sleep… put him to sleep… your thoughts were broken as you reached for it, looking at it in your hands for a few seconds, before stepping forward and slamming the needle into Billy’s neck without a hesitation.  Mike and Dustin gasped, standing back.  Everyone’s eyes stuck on the syringe hanging out of BIlly’s neck now.  A disgust filling them up at the sight.
“Shit y/n” Dustin mumbled, his hand covering his mouth to stop vomit from flowing.
Billy stood up, wobbling slightly as he turned to look at you.  He pulled the needle out of his neck, vision beginning to fail.  “The hell is this?” He asked, trying to step towards you threateningly, but he was wobbling so much you didn’t even move.  No longer afraid of him.
“You’re fucking done Hargrove” You muttered, and before thinking twice to second guess yourself, punching him across the jaw, and sending him back on his ass.  Billy groaned, staying down where he’d fallen against the couch.
“Shit what did you do” He mumbled, growing dizzy from the mix of drug and pain.
A few moments later he completely passed out.
“Fuck” You hissed in pain, putting your bruising knuckles against your mouth.  You didn’t think punching someone would hurt so damn much.
“y/n holy shit”
“Are you okay?”
“That was badass!”
The Party was fussing and cheering for you, but you didn’t respond, kneeling down by Steve next and counting up all the cuts and bruises he was beginning to sport.  He was unconscious, that was for sure.  But he’d be in for a world of hurt when he woke up.
“Come on, help me get him back to Jon’s bed” You called to the kids.
It was difficult moving him, but after ten minutes you’d managed to get him into Jonathan’s room to lie on the bed there.  You were sat next to him, a cold wet rag in your hand, and the open first aid kit on the ground.  It took you awhile to clean off all the blood and apply bandages where you thought they were necessary.  There was a frozen bag of peas you’d put over one of his eyes to stop the swelling, but so far it still looked pretty bad.
The Party had sat with you for what felt like a long time before you told them to go back to the living room and wait for the others to return home.  Dustin put up a small fight about it, but eventually gave in and listened to your order.  And now it was just you kneeling on the ground by Steve, watching over him carefully.  Making sure he was breathing okay, and that nothing would begin to bleed again.
“Well King Steve, you got quite the ass kicking” You mumbled, just to yourself.  Your fingers placed a few stray hairs on his forehead back into place.  “But your crown is still there” You smiled to yourself, fingertips gently brushing his hair.
“y/n?” Your eyes looked back at him as he mumbled, almost incoherently.  “What happened?” The poor boy’s eyes weren’t even open.
“You put up a really good fight” You told him softly.  He winced, the pain probably beginning to settle in.
“Did I win?” He groaned, eyes clenching shut momentarily.  You bit down on your lip and shook your head, even though he couldn’t see you.
“You put up a really good fight” You repeated yourself, playing with his hair again.  Steve sighed, knowing the answer.
“Is he gone?” He asked, eyes finally beginning to flutter open.
“Yeah… yeah he won’t be back any time soon, I’m sure” You answered.  Steve looked up at you, smiling down gently at him.  He smiled back instantly, and moved his arm to push your hair back, but even at it’s slight movement you winced in pain.  “You’re in pretty bad shape” You told him quietly.  “But you’ll heal up alright”
“Are you okay?” He asked, and you nodded.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine” You shrugged slightly.  “We’re all really worried about you.  Dustin thought you were dead” Steve chuckled painfully, shaking his head a little bit.
“Are they alright? Max and Lucas?”
“Yeah, we’re all good Steve” You hummed with a slight nod.  You leaned forward, a little closer to him to check on the eye swelled under the bag of peas.  You frowned, seeing the black and blue bruise that only seemed to be spreading.
“I’m alright, don’t fuss so much” Steve said, putting his hand over the bag and pushing it back against his face.  Your eyes met his for a moment.
“You’re pretty bruised up Harrington” You sighed, taking the wet rag in your hand and dabbing it gently on his bruised cheek.  “There’s not an inch of your face spared”
“It’ll be fine, I’ll heal up”
“Years from now, maybe” You replied sarcastically, and he smiled at you while you carefully pressed the cold cloth to his face.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” He murmured, and you looked at him for the briefest of seconds before going back to work.  Now is not the time to talk about feelings, you thought to yourself.
“Yeah? Go play hero some more and you’ll never see anything again” You told him, and he shrugged slightly, not having a response to that.
“I just wanted to remind you.  In case you haven’t been told in a while” He said.  You bit on the inside of your cheek to keep from smiling too much.  You looked down at him, your eyes softening slightly.
You leaned over closer to him, pausing for a moment before pressing your lips lightly against his.  It was a chaste kiss, only lasting a few seconds as you didn’t want to hurt him anymore than he already was.  When you pulled back, you smiled nervously at him, and he only smiled back at you.
“You’re lucky you didn’t die Harrington” You said, and got right back to work on pressing the rag to his wounds.
“That I am” He replied cheekily.
You giggled softly, smiling down at him and wondering just when he’d changed so much.
You knew he’d give his life for these kids too, just like you would.
love me some babysitter steve

Chapter Twelve
“Hi hi are you our grandma?” Rini said with wide eyes, you, Rin and Kauru were outside grabbing the last of the groceries and talking. It was like his mother was frozen in time, they looked exactly like her son when he was a kid, when she was still learning how to raise a tiny human.
She finally realized she was a grandmother because the looks were uncanny. “Yes I’m your grandma.” She replied and she kids ran and hugged her legs. “It’s nice to meet you, we’ve never had a grandma before but we promise to be good grandkids for you.” Rini said and Akira nodded. “What do you mean you never had a grandma before?” She asked the twins, they didn’t see the glint in her eyes. She needs all the information she can get to show her son that she’s not a good mother and he can fight for custody.
“Momma doesn’t talk to her parents. They’re mean and think she’s a dispointment.” Akira chimed in. Obviously the kid met disappointment which made sense. If Rin was a girl she’d probably do the same thing.
“Hey guys guess what grandma got!” Rin walked in, his hands full of groceries. He placed them down and pulled out the pack of the frozen Chuupets. The kids eyes widened and they ran to their dad to hand them a chuupet. “You are only getting one because you haven’t eaten dinner yet.” He said and the kids nodded. After he handed them the chuupet, they ran off. “How’s everything mom.” He looks down to see the shorter woman. “Could be better without your dog and your ex.” She answered and Suna frowned.
“At least try to get along with her? Please. She’s the mother of your grandkids and hopefully we can be together again.” He said hopefully and her eyes widened. “You wanna get back together with her.” She said almost disgusted and Rin sighed. “Yeah mom.” He replied. “You’re gonna regret it.” She hummed and Rin rolled his eyes.
“Excuse me..um...Mrs.Suna..?” You peered from behind the wall you somewhat heard their conversation but that’s a talk for another time, “What.” She raised a brow and Rin facepalmed. “When was the last time you checked the oil of your car? And your brakes?” You asked. “I don’t know. Usually we take it to a mechanic, but we’ve been busy raising someone else’s dog.” She said and eyed her son. “Mechanic? Rin nor Kauru don’t know how to do that?” You asked. “I have a sports car, no way in hell I’m fucking it up.” Rin replied.
“Is it okay for me to change the oil and the brakes? I would hate for you to get into an accident.” You asked. “Accident? You’d probably tinker with my car so I’d crash the next time I use it.” She crossed her arms over her chest. You were beyond confused, “Mom, stop.” Rin scolded and she rolled her eyes.
You left the car as is but made a mental note to ask Kauru for permission to add more oil and fix her brakes.
Other than that conversation you haven’t spoken to her the rest of the day. What bothered you was that she didn’t try to get close to the kids. You sat on the small picnic table in the backyard while Rin was throwing a chew toy across the backyard while his dog, Chewy chased it eagarly. When Rin came to the back yard he whistled causing the dog to turn its head, it stayed frozen as if not believing his owner was truly there. But eventually Rin called him and his ears perked up and he began running and whining at the same time. He tackled Rin and he fell back. Chewy licked his face and Rin was giggling with a big stupid smile on his face, you smiled lightly at the scene and Akira tugged onto your leggings to tell you that Rin was crying.
Your eyebrows scrunched in confusion and turned again to see Rin and then you saw it. The way he held on to his dog and a small tear streamed down. “Who’s a good boy? Are you a good boy?” He talked and Chewy’s tail wagged. “Alright bud, sit.” He commanded and he sat obediently. You could hear a tapping noise but it was because Chewy was so excited to see his owner. “Chewy meet your brother and sister.” Rin introduced and you started laughing. “What do you mean he’s our brother? He’s a dog.” Rini pointed out, “Same difference.” Rin shrugged and you covered your mouth to stop yourself from snorting.
“Okay get close and tell him to shake. Then shake his hand.” He instructed, Rini was first and gasped when Chewy obeyed. Earlier they got around to playing but they didn’t know their dads dog—I mean brother was trained. Akira did the same thing and she giggled. “Alrighty, Chewy. Meet your new mom.” He introduced you and you stepped back. “Nope, not my son.” You waved off, “Are you really gonna leave him motherless.” Rin pressed, “Yeah mama, he’s our brother you can’t be like that.” Akira whined.
“I just never really liked dogs.” You admitted, “Me neither but he’s my best friend.” Rin said softly. You looked down at the brown dog with curly hair. His tail wagged as his tongue sticker out so adorably. Now you understood why Rin named him Chewy, he looks like Chewbacca. “Nice to meet you, Chewy.” You reached your hand out to pet his head but he jump and rested his paws on your stomach, causing you to lose you balance and fall back. Before you could fall and die from embarrassment, No one other than Rin was there to catch you. “I’m sorry he doesn’t really do that. He’s just too excited.” He said from behind and helped you up. “No it’s fine.” You said and you both stayed quiet.
“So are you gonna continue holding on to my waist or..?”
“Fuck..sorry.” He apologized with flushed cheeks and let go. The kids began scolding their dad’s potty mouth and you hated that feeling in your stomach from when he pulled away.
Rin’s mom looked from the kitchen window and gritted her teeth while scrubbing the pan a little too hard. “Good job, Chewy.” Rini and Akira quietly praised and continued to play with their new brother.
****
“Finally we can talk.” Rin’s mom said and sat at the head of the table, you and Rin both gulped and Kauru sighed. He just wanted to nap. “Okay I can tell without a doubt that those children are Rintarou’s. And it’s nice that they don’t look like you.” Rin’s mom spoke up and you gasped. “If you’re here just to fight then don’t even open your mouth.” Kauru told his wife and she gave a glare. “Okay first of all. Why didn’t you tell my son you were pregnant.” She crossed her arms over your chest and you cuddled with your fingers. “Well Mrs.Suna...like I said over the phone. We had just broken up and I was hurt and afraid. I wasn’t sure if he would support me in keeping them—“ “Well how could you know if you didn’t speak up?” She interrupted but you ignored the jabs she threw. “I also wanted him to continue on with his career, stress free. I guess at the time I still loved him a lot that I didn’t want him to suffer with me. Or else I could have easily filed for child support.” You said and Rin frowned slightly.
“That’s not a good excuse. Rintarou has missed out on so much because you were selfish. You just wanted Rin to go pro for the money.” She accused with a pointed finger. “Mom—stop!” Rin immediately said and Kauru raised his finger to stop his son. “Karin do you know that for sure?” He asked his wife. “Yeah. All she does is party and drink. I think the kids are unsafe under her care. All of her money is wasted on her fake breasts.”
“Ma’am I can assure you that these are real. Ask your son.” You waved off and she gasped before she could open her mouth to utter more stupid shit you said. “With all due respect Mrs. Suna, you don’t know me. You don’t know how I raise my children, you don’t know what I do for a living and you don’t know what I’ve been through. Please before judging me, see how I treat my kids and how I treat your son. I have been nothing but respectful and the least you could do is treat me like a proper guest.” You argued back but she just ignored you and went through her iPad.
Why does she have an iPad? She flips the device over so you and the two Suna men could see and Rin almost spit out his drink. Karin told Kauru to look away and your mouth hung open as she swiped photo after photo of you in revealing lingerie. In some photos you’re wearing a gag and in others you’re chained up but it’s all modeling for Jamie and her line. You looked at your stomach and thighs and you could see those stretch marks.
Even though the world has seen these pictures, you can’t help but feel nervous when Rintarou is looking at them. You weren’t the same athletic girl from highschool, you gained weight, developed stretch marks, and you hate working out. You know you’re beautiful, that’s why you asked Jamie to not edit the photos of you she posted on the web. Your stretch marks and tummy were there for the world to see. But their comments or praise didn’t matter. The only person’s opinion that matters is Rintarou’s. Which is ridiculous to say but, some part of you still wants his approval and to be with him.
“Is this a good example to show your daughter? You want her modeling and showing off her body like a filthy wh—“ “Enough!” Rin smacked the table and stood up. You flinched as well as she did and you began to cry. “You make it seem like I should be ashamed of myself...”
“You should be.”
“Have you told them why we broke up?” You turned to Rin and he saw the tears streaming down. He wanted nothing more than to hold you in his arms and say that it’s okay. “No..” he shook his head and you sighed. “You won’t understand unless your son tells you what he did. Everything I did for myself and my children was for a reason. Now if you’d excuse me, I need to go, it’s time for their history lesson.” You wiped your eyes and left the table. Quickly you grabbed your bag with all their supplies and you met them outside. “Come on, time for school!” You called with a fake smile and red eyes. The kids understood to not argue and to just obey.
You sat on the picnic table with your two kids across from you and Chewy was laying on the bench right next to you, with his head on your thighs. “Mama...” Rini interrupted your thoughts, “Yes baby?” You asked and looked up from their lesson plan, “I love you, and you’re the best mom in the world.” He said with a small smile. “I love you more than Rini and you’re the bestest momma in the universe!” Akira chimes in and you chuckled. “I love you guys to infinity and beyond, forever and ever! It’s called unconditional love.” You said and their eyes widened. “Unconditional love...” akira hummed and you nodded.
Tumblr media
“Hi Kuroo-san is everything okay?” You asked as you made your way to the patio outside. It was already time for the kids bedtime. “Y/N I’m sorry for informing you last minute but one of the commentators for tomorrow’s game is in the hospital so we were wondering if you could fill in.” He spoke calmly. “I—oh gosh I’m all the way in Hyogo..when does the game start?” You asked.
After going back in forth for tomorrow’s game you hung up after respectfully telling him you weren’t interested in going out on a date. You rubbed your face and looked at the time. The trains have already closed for the day, so you’d have to take your car.
“You good?” Rin asked as soon as you walked back inside. “I need to go in to work tomorrow. Another commentator is in the hospital. Nobody else can fill in.” You said and his eyes widened since it’s a very long drive. “Oh how fantastic, leaving your young children overnight to go work—“
“I’m taking them.” You interrupted the witch and her eyes widened. “What do you mean you’re taking them.” She asked. “They’re my children and I don’t want to leave them with you. I’d rather take them and ask Jamie to watch over them and I’ll come back the day after tomorrow.”
“Y/N...” Suna snapped you out of your rambling and you turned your head to see him. “I’m here now, remember? You don’t have to do this alone anymore. I can take care of them and watch them. I’ve done it before.” He assured. “I’m sorry but I really don’t want them near your mom.” You explained your reasoning. “Tomorrow we’ll be at Kita’s farm all day. They’ll be fine.” He said and patted your head. Without even realizing, you leaned forward and wrapped your arms around Suna’s torso, his face flushed and he wrapped his arms around your shoulders. “Thank you. It means a lot.” You mumbled in his chest.
“It’s my job, partner.” He chuckled and you pulled away. “Fist bump?” He asked and presented his closer fist, you giggled and nodded. “Fist bump.” You did the same and your knuckles met. Rin’s mother scoffed and rolled her eyes, walking away to her room.
Tumblr media
You took a deep breath as you crossed lanes on the freeway going back home. You wanted nothing more than to stay with your kids or take them with you, but you can’t control everything yourself anymore. You gonna trust Rin.
You made it home by five am since the drive was eight hours but you made it in seven by speeding and automatically fell asleep in Rin’s bed. You decided to take the pull out bed in your office when Rin moved in and he slept in your old master bedroom. But you were too tired to pull it out so you slept in your old bed. You couldn’t help but notice how the pillows smelled like Rin.
His scent definitely changed, he doesn’t use the old spice fragrance from highschool. He now uses something more expensive and more subtle yet manly at the same time. You definitely needed to know what the scent was so you could buy more for him on a birthday or something.
You woke up at around 13:30 to get ready and leave by 15:00. You showered, did your hair and wore the white button up with the green dress pants and a green blazer on top. You slipped on some hot pink heels and some subtle jewelry and made your way. You called your kids and they said they were having a blast, they really missed you and wished you and their grandma were there and you couldn’t help but roll your eyes.
While Rin’s mom stayed home, her husband worked and Rin took the kids out, she began thinking about the day before.
“You won’t understand unless your son tells you what he did. Everything I did for myself and my children was for a reason.”
Rin’s mom was obviously confused and still annoyed at you. But then Rin sat her down after breakfast, the kids were outside and Kauru was already gone. He explained what he did with his friends and Karin couldn’t help but feel disgusted. If she would have been more involved in his teenage life then she could have prevented this. Prevented minors drinking, prevented her son getting sexually involved with you, and preventing an innocent girl getting hurt.
In reality you should have thrown a full can of coffee at Rin instead of an empty one. You should have cursed him and made him pay child support. That’s what she would do straight up. But you’re not her, and you explained why you did what you did. And she began to understand. “You have a lot of work to do in order to get back in her good grace.” She told her son. “I know I know..” he said softly. “That’s why we’re starting as friends. And eventually I wanna be with her romanticly and marry her. I want to be the man she can rely on and trust again.” He said and her mom smiled.
“I understand, I’ll make sure to apologize when she returns. And I’m rooting for you.” She said and Rin smiled. “Thanks mom.” She stood up and grabbed her bag, “I’m not in the mood to cook. How do burgers sound?” She asked Rin and he nodded. “There’s a place down the street that’s pretty good. I’ll be back in a few.”
Rin’s mother wanted to repent for her actions and she tried thinking of a proper way to apologize. She went into the restaurant to order and everywhere she saw, it explained that the food was made with peanut oil. But that’s what gave it the flavor. That’s why it’s so delicious. She happily payed for the food completely oblivious that her grandson was severely allergic to peanuts.
She arrived home and rounded up the kids. She gave them a kiss on the head and smiled as they showed her their drawings that she could keep. Rin’s mom passed around the burgers so Rin couldn’t see the bag that promoted the peanut oil being a main ingredient and the kids munched.
When Rini took the bite his eyes widened at the deliciousness. Bite after bite and his throat began to feel weird, as well as his stomach. He took a sip of the lemonade and he couldn’t swallow it properly. He began to cough and Rin patted his back confused and he face turned red.
“Rini are you choking?!” Akira asked scared and Rini shook her head. “My stomach hurts—“ he coughed and Rin’s eyes widened. “Oh shit.” He quickly ran upstairs to his old bedroom and looked through the bag with Rini’s inhaler and other vitamins. He saw the epipen and ran back out quickly unscrewing it. Rini’s face was turning purple and he continued to cough. Akira was crying and Karin didn’t know what to do. Rin fell to his knees and slammed the pen on his sons thigh. “Are you okay bud. Stay with me please.” Tears prickled his eyes. He seriously fucked up.
Rini’s chest heaved up in down as he tried to catch his breath. Rintarou instructed his mom to call 119 and an ambulance soon came and took Rini away with Rin in the ambulance. Akira was stuck with her grandma driving to the hospital.
Karin was so confused at the situation. And she was worried for her grandson. She tried her best calming the little girl who held the green pig plush and the fox plush in her arms. “Is Rini gonna die?” Akira pouted with watery eyes. “Of course not. Everything is gonna be alright.” She assured.
While all this was going down, you were talking and laughing as you talked about Sendai frogs and their intimating demeanor. You felt a weird feeling in your chest and felt like something was wrong. Your purse and phone was stuck in the lounge locker so you didn’t see the 20+ phone calls and messages you received from Rin.
He was afraid and didn’t know what to do. He really wished you were here by his side. He couldn’t do this alone and realized this is what it’s like being a single parent.

Kelly didn't really understand what was happening when his alarm went off at 4am. He was ready to roll around and continue his sleep when he remembered why he had set his alarm in the first place. He basically rolled himself off the couch with a groan and padded his way to Beth's room.
Nightmares plagued Beth's sleep. Over and over again she saw that car coming towards her in slow motion. A loud crash, followed by Alex running away, and then she was all alone. No help ever came. When Kelly gently nudged her arm, she jerked awake.
“Sorry,” he whispered as Beth sat up in her bed.
“No, it's okay,” she said, rubbing her eyes with the heels of her hands.
Kelly sat on the edge of her bed, concern etched into his handsome face as he placed a hand on her knee. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I'm fine. Just a bad dream.”
“Want to talk about it?” he asked.
"I don't remember what it was,” she lied.
“Alright.” He gave her knee a firm squeeze. “Try and get some more rest. I'm right in there if you need me,” he reminded as he got to his feet again. He was just about to go back to the living room when a small, gentle hand closed around his wrist. He looked down to where their hands connected before he let his eyes meet hers.
It took a second for her to find her voice. “Can you stay here with me?”
She sounded so vulnerable, so broken, that Kelly was powerless to deny her anything. He nodded his head without saying a word and Beth moved over to make room for him before he climbed in. Neither of them spoke as Beth reached down and laced their fingers together, resting her head on his shoulder. Kelly kissed her hair and whispered a goodnight, and before long, Beth had drifted off to sleep again. Kelly on the other hand, didn't want to sleep right away, he wanted to stay awake a little and just enjoy the moment. It was nice to have her so close again, to feel her hand in his as he listened to her heavy, sleep filled breaths. Yes, he definitely needed to savor this moment for as long as he possibly could.
Beth woke up alone the next morning. Kelly had woken up at eight that morning, but he didn't have the heart to wake her up, so he had let her sleep. It was nearly an hour later when Beth came padding into the kitchen, her hair sticking out to all odds and end, her eyes still filled with sleep.
“Morning,” Kelly greeted, flashing her that charming smile of his. One thing he had learned about her was that she wasn't human until she had her morning coffee, so as soon as he saw her, he started getting a cup ready for her.
“Morning,” she greeted back, sending him a smile as he handed her the mug. She took a deep breath before she spoke. “Thank you for staying with me,” she said softly.
“Don't mention it,” he said kindly as they both took a seat at her table. “You remember what you were dreaming?”
“Just the accident,” she said, not looking up at him. “Apparently my brain thought it would be fun to play it on a loop in slow motion.”
“Are you okay?” he asked again, worrying his brows.
“I promise.”
“Can I ask you something?” he asked tentatively and Beth answered with a nod. “You said you’re claustrophobic,” he started.
“Mhm..”
“Does that have anything to do with why you left NYFD?”
Beth sighed and put her cup on the table. “It was a building collapse,” she started. “My partner and I got trapped with a patient we were trying to save. The patient died on impact, and my partner was badly injured. We were stuck there for nearly eleven hours,” she said with pain in her voice.
“I'm sorry, Beth,” he said, reaching out to give her hand a comforting squeeze. “How’s your partner?”
“He didn't make it.” A tear fell from her eye and she wiped it away. “My leg was pinned under some rubble and I couldn't get to him. So I just had to sit there and watch him die,” she sniffled at the memory.
Kelly got up from his seat and rounded the table, crouching down in front of her. It wasn't hard to understand why she had reacted the way she did when she got pinned in that car. He didn't know what to say to her, so he just reached up and cupped her cheek.
She melted into his touch, taking the comfort it provided. “I tried to go back after my leg had healed up, but I couldn't do the job anymore. Claustrophobia and panic attacks don't really go hand in hand with being a paramedic.”
“But it's getting better?” he wondered.
“Yeah, I'm getting there. I guess being stuck in that car- just a little too familiar I guess.”
Kelly didn't quite know what else to say, so he opted to give her a hug instead, trying to provide her with a little comfort. He knew as well as anyone what this job could be like, and he had seen how it could change people. The fact that Beth had left it behind after her injuries didn't make him think any less of her, to the contrary. It took strength to walk away from something you loved, to admit that it might have changed for you.
Beth sniffled into his shoulder, appreciating the gesture. She was about to say something more to him, but before she could, a knock on the door interrupted her, and pulled them apart.
“It's probably just Gabby checking in,” she said as she got to her feet. “You mind? I'm gonna go put some pants on.”
Kelly just nodded and went to open the door. He was expecting Gabby, or anyone else from 51, but he didn't recognise the woman on the other side of the door.
“Who are you?” she asked in a demanding tone.
Beth froze as she heard the familiar voice, instantly turning on her heel to go save Kelly.
“Mom! What are you doing here?”
She didn't answer, just looked Beth up and down with a disapproving look on her face while Kelly seemed as though he was a deer stuck in headlights.
“You know why I'm here,” mom countered, “You gonna let me in?”
‘No’ Beth thought to herself, but Kelly stepped aside to let the woman in. She pushed past them both, leaving her luggage in the hallway. Beth grabbed the suitcase and wheeled it inside before following her mom.
“It's smaller than I imagined,” she criticised as she looked around the apartment. When her eyes landed on her daughter, her hard features softened and she reached out to give Beth a hug. “I was so worried about you.”
Kelly came up to introduce himself. “It's nice to meet you Mrs. Andrews,” he said politely.
“So you’re Beth's friend?” she quizzed, actually making quotation marks around the word friend.
“Oh my god,” Beth exclaimed, hiding her face in her hands. “He's just a friend,” she pressed, pointing to the couch that was still made up.
“You always walk around half naked when you have friends over?”
“I just got out of bed, mom. And I've definitely not had enough coffee for this,” she added that last part under her breath.
“Have you eaten yet, or should I make something for you real quick?” She was already heading for the fridge.
And just like that Beth felt like she was fourteen years old again. “I don't have time for food mom, I have an appointment at the hospital.”
“Oh good. I wanted to talk to your doctor,” she chirped.
“No, mom. You don't have to come. Kelly is gonna give me a lift.”
“Nonsense. I'm here now. There's no need to put him out anymore,” Mrs. Andrews said sweetly, sending Kelly a tightlipped smile.
“No one is putting me out,” Kelly said politely. “I don't mind taking you both if that's alright?” he offered.
“Excuse us for a moment,” Beth said, taking Kelly by the arm and dragging him away. “I am so sorry about this,” she said with wide eyes. “I really didn't think she would just show up like this.”
“It's okay,” Kelly said with a chuckle.
“You should just go. Save yourself,” she suggested.
“I'm a big boy, Beth. I can take it,” he noted. “Besides, how bad can she be?”
“You’re gonna regret those words, Lieutenant.”
***
At least there weren't any awkward silences with Beth's mom around. There was a constant flow of words coming out of her mouth. Everything from complaining about the cold Chicago winter, to gossiping about neighbours back in New York, to bragging about Beth's brothers and their recent accomplishments. By the time Kelly pulled his car up to Beth's apartment, his ears were practically bleeding, and he was definitely excited about dropping them off. Beth on the other hand, was so embarrassed that she didn't have words.
She gave her mom the keys to her apartment and told her she'd be right in.
“Bet you regret not bailing when you had the chance,” Beth noted as soon as mom had disappeared through the front door.
“Just a tad,” he chuckled.
“I'm really sorry about all this. Is there any way I can make it up to you?”
He just shrugged it off. “So, what are your plans now that you have a clean bill of health?” he wondered, sticking his hands in his pockets.
“I don't know. Guess I have to ask my mom,” she joked, making Kelly laugh. Just then, Mrs Andrews stuck her head out the door and yelled something about them catching the flu if they stayed out there in the cold. Beth rolled her eyes and said she'd be right in. “You and Gabby be careful today, alright?” Kelly just bobbed his head. “I hope you find some answers.”
“Me too.” He closed the gap between them and placed a chaste kiss to her forehead before he started making his way around the car again.
“I'm here if you want to talk,” she called out just as he was about to get in.
“I'll keep that in mind,” he said with a smile. And with that he got back in his car and drove away.
Beth watched him until he turned the corner and then she took a deep breath to gather some strength before she headed back inside.
***
The next day was unbelievably cold, to the point that Chicago had issued a state of weather emergency and urged everyone to stay inside. Kelly tried to get out of his car, but didn't get very far before he sat back in and closed the door. He looked around for anything he could use to shield him from the cold during the short walk from his car and to the firehouse. A sweatshirt lay in the back seat, so he threw it on like a scarf and ran inside.
“Wow!” he exclaimed as he came through the door and almost ran into Tony.
“Pretty brutal out there today,” Tony noted.
“Yeah. I just saw a penguin. Crying,” Kelly joked.
Because of the weather emergency, everyone at the station knew that it was going to be a busy day. To top it all off, radio communication was down and the ambulance had starting issues. Kelly was in a good mood though. They had finally learned the truth about Shay’s death, and he really felt like that brought a little closure. His already good mood improved as Beth came through the door, carrying two full grocery bags.
Dawson greeted her first, taking one of the bags off of her hands. “What are you doing here? Didn't you catch the part about staying home?”
“I heard something about that on the radio on my way here. About the same time as I passed a crying penguin,” she joked.
Gabby looked from Beth to Kelly, chuckling as she shook her head. “Peas in a pod,” she muttered under her breath.
Beth turned to Kelly with a confused look on her face. “I made that same joke not ten minutes ago,” he explained, taking the other bag from her hands. “What are you doing here?”
“To make soup… and get away from my mom. Figured you'd all be pretty busy today, and cold, so.”
“I'm sure everyone will appreciate it,” he noted as they made their way to the kitchen. “How long is she staying?”
“I have no clue,” Beth said with a deep sigh. “She doesn't have a return flight and she keeps changing the subject everytime I ask. I hope soon though. She's taken over my entire apartment… even rearranged my cupboards - twice.”
“Wow.”
“Right!? I literally snuck out while she was in the shower.”
“And how many times has she called since then?”
“Just four. I call that improvement.”
Gabby came rushing through the doors, panic written all over her face, a small baby in her arms. “Someone just left her under the Safe Haven sign,” she breathed out.
“What?” Beth exclaimed as she hurried over. “People actually do that?”

Half Hot
By Drazzilder
@justmewoo requested a story. I think there will be more to this but this is the first part, hope you all enjoy!
You are rushing to the hospital. Not even red lights can stop you from getting there as fast as possible. Your mother was in a severe car accident and the doctor on the phone said to come immediately. When you arrive, you quickly talk to one of the front desk nurses and find your mother’s room. Upon entering, you see numerous machines all around her, keeping her alive. It takes all of your will power not to cry when approaching the bed. She is asleep but her eyes open when you grab her hand.
“(Y/N)….” She barely whispers.
“I’m here. Its ok.”
“You know I’m not going to make it.” She says this while looking at you with a loving and apologetic face.
You begin to cry. “I know.”
“I need to tell you something before I go.”
“Anything…”
“I lied to you about your father.”
“What?” your tears are stopped almost immediately when hearing this.
“He didn’t die of a drug overdose. Your father is alive.”
“Wait? Who is he?”
“He’s the number one hero…”
“Endeavor? That’s impossible!?”
“He came to America a long time ago and I did things I regret but I’m happy I can tell you now.”
“That’s why you made me learn Japanese?”
“Yes, I was preparing you for this one day. I’m sorry I lied.”
“Mom….” You squeeze her hand a little tighter as you start to cry again.
“Oh, and Happy 25th Birthday…” The heart monitor holds its tone. You cry at the side of the bed until a nurse comes into the room. She tells you she is sorry for your loss but you get up and head to the front desk. After getting all of the paperwork figured out, you head home. You still lived at home with your mother, so going to an empty home is going to be hard. You were between jobs and you had not much to your name. When you get home, you see a small cake with “Happy Birthday!” written on it. The cake ends up in the trash out of sadness and anger. All this time, you had a father a world away and yet your mother never told you. It would explain your quirk, only being able to heat your hands up but not create any flames. The sulking stops when you open your laptop and look up tickets to Japan.
Endeavor may be the number one hero and you admired him for so long but you need to talk to him. He is even a hero in your eyes, you being a big fan of him. You even have a room almost filled to the brim with Endeavor toys, posters, plushies and more. “I have nothing left, might as well try…” you think as you book the plane tickets. The week wait felt like an entirety but when you got on the plane, your heart was racing. Once on the ground, it isn’t long before you arrive at the Endeavor agency. When you enter, the shock on the secretary’s face tells you that you are in the right place. You never really noticed before but you look like the spitting image of Endeavor. 6’3’’, wide frame, square jaw line, blue eyes, crimson red hair.
“I am here to speak to Endeavor, is he available.?” You say as the words look like they flying over the poor secretary’s head.
“I-I… let me call him and let him know he has a…. visitor.” She is trying to best to hide her shock but you know that it can’t be helped. After she hangs up, she walks you nervously to the office. The doors open and she motions you inside. The big man himself is in his office chair, looking down at his work. He doesn’t even look up when you enter.
“Hello, uh…Mr. Endeavor sir.”
He responds without even looking up. “You speak Japanese fairly well, however your American accent shines through. I can tell you learned from a native speaker. What do you need?”
“Um… Thank you. I… My name is (Y/N), I don’t know how to say this easily but I think I am your son.”
“What makes you say….” The number 1 hero is stopped in his tracks as he looks up. His body language changed in an instant, those words ringing in his head. When he finally can move again, it looks like he saw death himself. With mouth slightly agape, he just stares for a while then he manages to speak.
“Wa… how…why…”
“My mom told me. She said you visited America and you two met.”
The cogs start spinning in the hero’s head as he starts to remember the past. “Stella?” is all he can manage to remember.
“That was her name.”
“Was? Does that mean…”
“Yes, she passed away.”
“Oh…. And you are about 25 years old?”
“Yes. My birthday was last week actually, the same day she died.”
“What happened?”
“A car accident.”
“I…. I am sorry.”
“It was an accident.”
“No, I mean yes I am sorry about that. I really mean that I am sorry I was never there. Did you have a father as a child?”
“No, it was just me and mom.”
Under his breath “God, why did I….” Then he speaks normally again “I am sorry I did that to you. I guess you are here now because you wanted to find out if I really was your father.”
“That and I have nothing left at home. I didn’t have a job, my mom is dead, no family on her side is left. I had nothing left to live for so I decided to start fresh. Even if you were not my dad I could always start anew here.”
“That doesn’t need to happen. You are more than welcome to stay with me.”
“I don’t need that, I can j- “
“No, I insist. I need to make this up to you. I need to….” the man sounds like he is about to choke but he manages to calm himself before getting up and hugging you. Even though you are almost as tall as him, you are not nearly as built and he feels huge. His hug feels nice, something you never had as a child. The hug breaks and you feel cold again but the look on Endeavor’s face makes you forget about that. It looks like he has been beaten down. You don’t get much time to think about it when he offers to take you home with him after he finishes for the day. Of course, you agree. A sidekick takes you on a tour around the agency until it is time to go and Endeavor gets a ride for the two of you to get home.
The Todoroki residence is a large traditional style Japanese home with a massive property for being in the city. When you enter the home, something feels off. It is stale, lifeless and empty. You look around and see not a single sign of life around, that is until you find a photo frame. This a picture of Endeavor standing next to a frail looking woman with a small boy with red and white hair.
“Is this your family?” you ask while he is in another room.
“Yes…” he almost sighs.
“What are their names?”
“R-Rei is my wife. The children are Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shoto.”
“Wait, I only see one child in the photo.” You wait for a response but you only hear silence. When he comes to the room, he acts like that question was never spoken.
“Where is your family?”
“They are not here. They live in another home.”
“Is it too much to ask why?”
“It is for their safety.”
“Oh, that makes sense you being the number one hero and all.” You take a moment to settle in. Endeavor takes you to a guest bedroom and you unpack your small bag. It isn’t long till there is some dinner made and you sit eating with him in silence again.
“You know when I found out you where my dad, I freaked out.” This doesn’t get much of a response from him so you continue. “To be the son of the number one hero, the fire hero himself, I was so excited. I have a heat quirk but all I can do is just make my hands really hot, kinda useless. But it makes sense that I got this quirk from you.”
Endeavor just chews quietly until he swallows heavily and manages to speak. “I…. When I saw you in my office, I knew you were my son. You look just like me. I am sorry that you had to go all that time without a father, without me being there. It isn’t right. I should have been there, I should have…..” He trails off before looking back at his bowl of rice.
“It is ok. You didn’t know.”
“Was your life, ok?”
“I guess. There were times where we had it rough but every family goes through that.”
He just sighs. “That…. It didn’t have to be that way.”
“Hey, I am here now. We can work on it now.”
“You are right. Let me make this right. I want to be a good father to you. I will take tomorrow off so we can start to work on that.”
“Ok, that’s a little fast but sounds good.”
“Thank you.” You wonder why he is thanking you but you think his emotions must be high from everything that has happened today. You find your way back to the guest room and fall asleep almost instantly from the jet lag. The morning is filled with the smell of a traditional Japanese breakfast. In the kitchen, Endeavor is waiting for you.
“Good morning, I hope you slept alright.”
“I did and thank you for cooking, it looks great!”
“You are welcome. I wanted to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind.”
“Sure.”
“You never knew who your father was until recently?”
“No, my mom never said a word. She told me that he died of a drug overdose.”
“I see. Did you know who I was before this?”
“Yes, I knew you were the number 2 then number 1 hero. It’s a little funny, I actually had a whole room full of Endeavor stuff. I am a huge fan.”
“What do you mean ‘had’?”
“I sold everything I had left to come here.”
“Oh…. I have one last question. Did you want to meet the rest of the family?”
“I-If they want to. I would love to but I don’t want to impose.”
“I will call and see if they are up to it right after breakfast.” It isn’t long before the food is finished end Endeavor is on his phone. He called his daughter and isn’t on the phone long before he comes back.
“They will be here later in the week. Is there anything you wanted to do today?”
“I never have been around Japan before; we can go anywhere.”
“I have some ideas. Let’s go.”
The two are headed out. They walk to the nearest station and take a train to the center of the city. The looks you got on the train were a mix between shocked and horror seeing two people who looked like the number one hero. Once in the city, Endeavor is quick to show you around. He takes you to the major landmarks, the hot spots for people your age, and even some of his favorite spots to eat. Around noon, you go to a local yakitori shop and enjoy some of the local cuisine. Lunch ends and then he wants to take you to one last place before head back. It isn’t long before you are both at a traditional Japanese temple. You take your time to walk around and take in all of the sights and respect the culture the best you can. He knows you are trying your best to understand and helps when he can.
The whole week goes something like this. Endeavor took the whole week off work early each day to spend time with you. Sometimes you went into the city, other times you went more into nature either a park or more distant parts of Japan. This is was all so much for you, you now have a father, someone who cares about you. You missed this as a child but now Endeavor is giving you the fatherly attention you always wanted.
The big day is here and you can tell Endeavor is nervous. You both head out before dinner. A small bakery was on your walk so you went inside and bought a cake for everyone to enjoy. Once back home, Endeavor set the table for the family. You are a nervous reck until the doorbell rings.
“Hi dad, what’s with us coming for dinner? Is something wrong?” Fuyumi says before entering. You sit there in shock realizing he didn’t tell them why he called them over. When they all enter the dining room, you look up to stone cold faces.
N: In pure shock “I…Who are you?”
S: “Is this some kind of joke?” He responds with some anger.
F: “Dad?”
E: “This is (Y/N). He is my son.”
N: “WHAT?! You have to be joking!” He starts to get red in the face with anger.
F: “I don’t think dad is, look at him. He looks just like dad.”
S: “This is really shocking to find out.”
(Y/N): “That how I felt when I found out.”
N: “What do you mean when you found out?”
(Y/N): “I only found out a few weeks ago. Please sit down and we can talk. I’m sorry this is all a shock to you.”
S: “This is making me uncomfortable. Can we go?”
E: “Let me make this right.”
N: “I’m heading out with Shoto.”
E: “Wait!”
N: “No, this is too much. How do you think we would react?”
F: “I don’t know how to process this. What he must have gone through without a father.”
E: “Fuyumi, you too?” He looks at her almost in astonishment.
N: “I can’t believe you did that to him. What kind of father are you anyway?”
Hearing all of this, how they talk to their father, it makes you snap. “This is how you treat your father? He is the number 1 hero. He has saved countless lives and helped take down hundreds if not thousands of villains and yet you treat him like what he is saying means nothing. He makes mistakes but that’s ok, we all do. I would love to have a father like him, I never had one as a kid. He wasn’t there when I was a kid but he wants to make up for it, isn’t that enough?”
You look over to the hero who has gone white. Endeavor turns around and leaves the room quickly. You are about to go after him but are stopped when Natsuo grabs your hand.
N: “You don’t know anything, do you?”
(Y/N): “What?”
F: “Our father isn’t perfect.”
(Y/N): “I’m not saying he is perfect.”
S: “He hurt all of us.”
(Y/N): “How?”
F: “He neglected Natsuo and I because we were not perfect to replace him. He hurt Shoto by training him too hard and our mom had a breakdown and hurt Shoto. We didn’t even know much about Shoto until recently because we were kept away from our brother.”
N: “The worst of it is that our oldest brother died because of what dad did to him. He was pushed too hard as a kid.”
S: “All of this just to be better than All Might.”
(Y/N): “What?”
N: “He only kept having kids until a child had the perfect quirk to be better than himself. He abandoned those without a good quirk.”
S: “And now we find out about you, we didn’t even know we had another brother.”
N: “Another child of his, ruined…”
You look at all three of them and can tell that they are all telling the truth. The emotions inside start to build again and overflow as you speak. “But…. I finally have a dad…” you start to cry, just a little. “My mom died on my birthday, I have no family, and I have no one to care for me. I finally find out I have a father and maybe a family but you’re telling me all of this.” You cover your face to try to hide your emotions. “Why does everything have to be so hard.”
F: “I’m sorry to tell you all this. But it’s only fair to tell you before you decide anything.”
N: “What did he tell you anyway?”
(Y/N): “He didn’t know I was alive.”
S: “What?”
(Y/N): “When I walked into his office, he looked like he saw a ghost. He said he wished he was there and he wanted to make things right. He has been with me all week, trying to make up for lost time.”
N: “Really… he is trying to help you too?”
(Y/N): “Too?”
F: “Dad is trying to make up for his mistakes. He even had us move to a new house to help us heal.”
(Y/N): “He said it was for your safety.”
N: “Yes, from him.”
F: “Natsuo!”
(Y/N): “I need to go talk to him.”
S: “That might not be a good idea.”
(Y/N): “I don’t care. Just wait here till I come back.”
You leave the dining room and wander the house looking for the number 1 hero. Some sounds start to come from a distant part of the house. As you get closer, the sounds start to morphing into the sounds of crying. You turn the corner and find Endeavor crying in front of a shrine.
“Endeavor?”
The man doesn’t even turn towards you as he speaks through his tears. “Go away…. Please…”
“No. We need to talk.”
“I-I don’t want to be seen like this. A hero should be strong but… I can’t hold it together anymore.”
“You are human, it’s ok to feel overwhelmed.”
“I know they told you about me.”
“They did.”
“Why are you defending me? Why are you still here? This family has fallen apart because of me. My son died because of me. My children were practically abandoned, Shoto was pushed hard day after day. I sent my wife to the mental institution because of what I caused. How can I be a hero if I only hurt those around me…?” His crying starts to grow louder as his emotions start to peak. The only thing you think to do is something that doesn’t come naturally to either of you. You grab his shoulders and turn him to you. He hardly has the will power to fight your movements when you put your arms around him. He weakly places his massive arms around you as he continues his sobs. His head lays limply on your shoulder as you try your best to comfort him.
You barely whisper “Let it out, there is no need to hold it inside anymore.” You look up to see the shrine behind Endeavor. The photo in the center is of a small boy with pure white hair. “Is that him?”
“His name was Touya. He was my first born, well I thought he was, but his quirk only hurt him. After having more children to fill my selfish desire to be better than All Might, he got angry and lost control. He died from his powers. I pushed him too far.”
“I….I’m sorry.”
“You shouldn’t apologize.”
“Don’t worry about me, just keep talking.”
It takes a few moments for the man to pull himself together enough to to begin to speak again. “I’m so sorry. I’m such a horrible father. I abandoned you and your mother. All those years without the support of a father; I don’t deserve you in my life. You deserve someone better.” The tone of his voice has change to something you have never heard from him before, something sad and vulnerable, the opposite of what he normally is.
“You are all that I have left, I’m not leaving. I know that I just showed up but from what little I was told, I believe you want to make things better.”
“Why are you staying?”
“I want to be here. Something inside of me is telling me I need to be here. I want a relationship with my family.”
“But…”
“No, I am staying and you can’t stop me. Maybe I can help too.”
“These are my mistakes, I need to atone for them, alone.”
“These are too big for you. You could barely look at me when I first got here. I know you feel guilty but you didn’t even know about me.
“But…. l”
“You don’t have to handle any of this alone, we can all work together but you have to let us in.”
“I…. I don’t know how.”
“How about this: let’s see if we can go back and try to have some dinner, as a family. We can try to talk things out, ok?”
“I guess.” The hero stands and he composes himself for a bit before you both head back down the hall. The tension in the air is still thick as you both sit down.
(Y/N): “I’m sorry if it feels like I am intruding into this family, I just wanted to find out if Endeavor is my father.”
F: “You look just time him; we can tell you are our brother.”
S: “We are sorry we acted the way we did you you, it is not your fault.”
N: Looking at his father “A warning would have been nice.”
E: “I am sorry I didn’t warn you about this when I invited you over. I knew you wouldn’t want to come over if you knew.”
N: “This is still a shock for us.”
F: “(Y/N), you said you didn’t know until recently?”
(Y/N): “My mom kept it a secret from me. She even had me learn Japanese since a child. I never second guessed who I looked until after she told me. She said Endeavor met her in America.”
S: “I didn’t know you went to America.”
E: “It was soon after graduating from UA, I wanted to learn more about the world of heroes and trying to learn from other pro heroes. There I met your mother at an agency, she was the secretary. She knew a lot of the ins and outs of hero work but one night things got a little off topic….”
N: “We don’t need to know the rest.”
S: “You left after that?”
E: “I’m ashamed to say yes. I didn’t know she had a child.”
(Y/N): “It’s ok. I don’t think she wanted you to know.”
S: “You’re probable right. But what makes you think we would accept you in our family?”
(Y/N): “I don’t expect you to anything that makes you uncomfortable. I only came to see if Endeavor was my father. After that, I didn’t really have anything in mind. I would be happy if I could be part of this family. I know it’s anything but perfect but he sounds like he is trying to change things for the better. I don’t know where I fit in this but I want to be included.”
E: “I don’t know how to apologize for everything I did to you all. I abandoned my first child, I neglected others, pushed others too hard. I was so selfish in everything I have done in the past 25 years. I wish I could go back and undo all of it. The amount of guilt I feel every day is almost unbearable but the only thing that pushes me forward is knowing that I need to make up for my mistakes. I don’t want forgiveness; I just want to atone.”
F: “We can see that.”
(Y/N): “What about me?”
F: “Give us time to think about this, all of this.”
(Y/N): “Take all the time you need, I waited 25 years to have a father and siblings, what’s a little more time.”

This one’s a little late because I’ve just started work again this month! Thank you again to all the fandom content creatures for giving us an escape. Here are the best fics I read in August and they’re all bangers. This rec includes 13 fics from the One Direction, Teen Wolf, and Umbrella Academy fandoms. The starred ones are fics I would drop in front of your door if I was your cat.
Larry (One Direction)
1. Naked Attraction by reader_chic_2 | reality tv au - Louis is basically a pixie dream guy - rock star Harry - true love - 12k
Louis Tomlinson was the only gay and unfortunate staff member chosen to step in for one of the six possible partners when someone dropped out. He hated working there, and he definitely didn't want to agree, but it was too good of an offer to be turned down. Nothing would come out of it, surely, and they even agreed to keep his identity a secret.
That all changed when famous singer Harry Styles walked out. Louis had no idea who he was, and Harry liked that about him.
2. thick alpha (series) by @eeveelou | a/b/o - Louis just wants to take care of his man and that includes kink hijinks - emotional hurt/comfort - chubby kink - 3+ parts
Louis loves Harry's body from the first moment he sees him. It takes Harry a little convincing to see what Louis sees.
3. *still feel the same around you* by @gaycousinlarry | this gave me cavities!! - out of order - girl direction - older Larry - 13k
Twenty-five years is a long time to fall in love with someone, to learn all the ways a person can fit into one's heart. It’s also an awful long time to lie to one of the most important people in your life.
Sterek (Teen Wolf)
4. Who Can Take the Sunshine (series) by Anonymous | fae Stiles - dad Derek - this is just so pure and can just take you out of any bad mood! - see how magic works - 12+ parts
It all starts when Derek and his five year old daughter meet Fairy Stiles at the market.
5. *Blood is (Not) Thicker Than Water* by Anxiety_Baker02 | tw: abusive extended family - BAMF Stiles - pining Derek - this WILL get you worked up - 78k
Stiles hasn’t seen his extended family in years- mostly because they’re assholes. His cousins bully him relentlessly, and his aunts and uncles aren’t much better. So when he hears that they’re coming out for a family reunion, he’s understandably upset. He knows the next week is going to be hell, and it’s made worse when a new pack shows up, vowing revenge on their pack.
6. Be still, my love (series) by tugela54 | werewolves are known and discriminated against - omega Stiles - pining - misunderstandings - 3 parts
When Stiles’ boss unexpectedly goes into rut, he offers himself to the lycan, knowing all too well how utterly terrifying it can be.
Will his gamble pay off, or ruin everything…?
Klave (The Umbrella Academy)
7. Like Real People Do (series) by ObliqueOptimism | yeah so Klaus self-harms himself to deafness - family bonding - good siblings communicate, who knew? - fluff and angst - 6+ parts
Vanya got a call from the hospital, Klaus had harmed himself while in rehab. She decided then and there to be there for him. Together they heal, grow, become the family they'd never been, and change the future in immeasurable ways.
8. And When I Look In My Window, So Many Different People To Be by ObliqueOptimism | witch Klaus - BAMF Klaus still has daddy issues - bless this author - the more ghosts you know - 24k
If you were to go looking for Klaus, you wouldn't look to the alleys where drugs are bought, or to a rave where you could lose yourself in dance, no. No, you would look to his garden full of protective herbs, to his bedroom at three in the morning where he tends to make magic amulets. Klaus grew into his power, both as a witch, and as the Séance.
9. Tombstones In Their Eyes by @siriuspiggyback | disabled Klaus - despite themselves this family can care! - hurt/comfort - angst with a happy ending - 12k
His siblings don't pay a lot of attention to Klaus, don't notice the dog tags and new tattoos, but even the Hargreeves have to notice a missing limb.
10. *Choirs Threaten in Voices I Only Feel* by @veteranklaus | hey veteranklaus? I’d die for you - blind Klaus - I love how this fic changes Harold Jenkins - Ben as a seeing eye ghost? perfection! - 61k
The last time Klaus saw his siblings was at Allison and Patrick's wedding. A lot had changed since then; including the not-so-accidental, irreversible loss of his sight.
There's no time to tell them that, though. Not with the return of their long-presumed-dead brother and the impending apocalypse. Plus, it doesn't matter. He's got Ben as a good seeing-eye ghost.
11. *Numbers (series)* by @veteranklaus | this series legit made me disocciate for a few days especially since I just finished The Accident by Wiesel - the Holocaust is a trigger warning - very dark - the writing is literally award-winning, like the research done? the empathy paid to the characters? god tier!! I’ve written several research papers on post/during-holocaust times and i just want to applaud you for the work you’ve done in writing this - 2+ parts
The briefcase transports Klaus into a time to fall in love with a bookshop owner and photography enthusiast with soft amber eyes and a yellow star sewn into all of his clothes. And later, Klaus will stand next to that same man behind a fence, and he'll hold his hands up to a camera and pray to a merciless god that his siblings open a history book and find him.
12. *At the Edge of the Universe* by @veteranklaus | this is turning into a veteranklaus rec post but i don’t care - this is the life Klaus and Dave deserved!!! - the gays are really winning today y’all - cottagecore but make it the 1970s - 58k+
There is a knock at the door. With a heavy sigh, Klaus untangles himself from the mess of Dave's limbs with a mutter of 'I've got it'. They rarely get visitors out here, their closest neighbour being about three miles away, and Klaus didn't even hear a car or see any headlights outside.
He opens his door, expecting to see old Mrs Richards asking for one of the dog treats they always keep for the occasions her dog runs off. He does not, however, expect to see his siblings - all of them, standing outside his door. Well, Five is being held up by Diego, and Vanya is being carried by Luther, but they are all there, on his doorstep, on this evening in 1970.
13. Counting Down The Days To Go by @siriuspiggyback | sick Klaus - sibling bonding - Klaus goes to therapy - there are some lines that just kick the breath out of you - 24k
It started off small. Easy to explain away. That was his downfall, in the end. By the time they diagnosed him, it was too late; the cancer had gotten a tight hold on his body.
Klaus wouldn't tell his siblings, not yet, no matter how much Ben begged him. He wanted to feel as normal as he could, for as long as he could.

Kingdom of the Spiders
Yep, this is the one with William Shatner in it.  It was directed by John ‘you really undermine your authority when you put Bud in the middle of your name’ Cardos, who did the same job for The Day Time Ended and Outlaw.  It’s also available on Rifftrax, so I think we’re fully qualified for EtNW status… but if you need one more returning star, we have of course the much-maligned Mexican Red-Knee Tarantula.
The Shatmeister is Dr. Robert Hansen, the vet in these here parts. He’s not sure what caused Mr. Colby’s prize calf to suddenly fall sick and die, so he summons help that arrives in the form of Dr. Diane Ashley, an expert on venomous animals.  She quickly determines that the area is being invaded by huge, pissed-off tarantulas!  The over-use of pesticides has forced the spiders to evolve, and they’ve become social hunters with a more concentrated and deadly venom.  In large numbers they’re capable of taking down cattle, dogs… and maybe even humans.  The soundtrack consists of terrible country songs, all of them by the same guy you’ve never heard of.
As 70’s Nature’s Revenge movies go, Kingdom of the Spiders is… adequate.  It’s not remarkably bad, but there’s nothing particularly creative or interesting in it, either.  The direction is nondescript – none of the shots are visually striking, but anything artsy would be out-of-place in a film that’s intended to look as down-to-earth as the farmers and cowboys that populate it.  There’s a county fair that stands in for the Fourth of July Weekend from Jaws, and a ‘spider hill’ that serves as the Smaller Shark, but both of them are mentioned and then just kind of go away, rather than fulfilling any role in the plot.  They’re there for the same reason as the love triangle, because movies are supposed to have those.
The love triangle is what’ll make you hate Shatner’s character. Dr. Hansen seems dedicated to his work and he’s kind to his neighbours, but he’s an absolute ass to women. He seems to have a thing going on with his dead brother’s widow, Terri, which is very Claudius of him, but he rejects her almost violently when she accidentally calls him by her husband’s name. In one scene he teases that he might marry her himself, and then a day later he’s bringing Diane by to introduce her, which results in Terri fleeing to the kitchen to cry.  The impression we get is that he can read her signals, he just doesn’t give a shit.
Tumblr media
He’s a jerk to Diane, too.  He asks her on a date moments after saying he has to go see ‘his girl’ that afternoon.  It turns out he’s referring to his four-year-old niece, but he didn’t clarify that until after he asked Diane out, which can only mean he deliberately led her to think he wants to cheat on somebody with her.  Later when he wants her attention, he runs her off the road and basically kidnaps her for dinner with him, and then he drives her car after she’s angrily told him not to.  He teases her about her feminism and makes her open beers for him… and of course this is supposed to be Twu Wuv.
Like a lot of useless love triangles in a lot of useless movies, this one is resolved when the third party dies.  Shatner therefore doesn’t have to choose – if Terri had lived and he’d chosen Diane instead, she might have decided to reduce Hansen’s time with her daughter Linda, whom he clearly adores.  With Terri dead, he gets Diane and the child all to himself.  Terri was nothing but an inconvenience, and is summarily disposed of.
I did like Diane, though.  She comes across as kind of a snotty bitch when we first meet her, but she warms up fast.  My favourite part of the movie is when she sees a gigantic tarantula crawling out of a drawer at her hotel room, and she immediately picks it up, pets it, and tells it it’s pretty!  How could I not like this lady?  Apparently actress Tiffany Bolling got the role mostly because she was willing to do that while their first choice, Barbara Hale (of The Giant Spider Invasion) was not. She deserved way better than to be William Shatner’s love interest.
Tumblr media
The unfortunate thing about this sequence is it, and a couple more in which Diane happily handles the spiders without harm, rather undercuts the idea that they’re supposed to be aggressively seeking out human prey.  There are other scenes in which we watch humans run around madly, screaming and flailing, while the spiders merely sit there not doing very much.  Worst of all are two separate sequences in which a fatal accident seems to result not from spiders attacking people, but from people freaking out because a spider was in a vehicle!  It makes the whole movie feel like an over-reaction.
I do realize this may be my personal reaction, rather than the average one… somebody who’s actually scared of spiders might find this completely horrifying.  But… you know spiders move at like one mile an hour, right?  The Creeping Terror could catch them.  Just go get in your car, and drive away.  It would have worked for the sheriff if the crowd hadn’t slowed him down!
Tumblr media
Moving along – the characters of the Colbys, a farming couple who’ve poured everything they have into their herd of cattle only to see their livelihood destroyed, are people we can pity but we know better than to get attached to them.  The opening scene is Mr. Colby bragging about how his calf is a shoe-in for first prize, and you know right away that he’s destined to lose everything.  The series of tragedies that ensue for the couple are all similarly telegraphed.
At the end we see a terrible matte painting depicting the entire town draped in spiderwebs.  This looks so bad it’s actually difficult to figure out what we’re seeing, and I’m not at all sure what it’s meant to tell us.  Diane had talked about the spiders ‘migrating’, implying that they’re just passing through.  So are we meant to think that now they’ve killed everyone else, the spiders have moved on and our so-called heroes can escape?  Because there are no actual spiders in the image, just their webs.  On the other hand, Diane also talked about spiders storing their food by wrapping it in webs.  So are they gonna come back to eat everybody later?  But it’s just a spiderweb… the humans can rip it apart and go.  Did the characters win, or lose?  Are they going to live or die?  The movie just runs out of ideas and ends.
Tumblr media
This is a bit of a shame, because the core idea here is kind of neat.  The spiders have become monsters not because chemicals or radiation has mutated them, but because evolution did.  Diane explains that over-use of pesticides has done two things: one is to create DDT-resistant spiders in the same way as misuse of antibiotics creates drug-resistant bacteria.  The ones that can tough it out survive and produce similarly tough offspring.  Second, the pesticides have killed off the spiders’ usual prey, forcing them to turn to alternative sources of food.  Spiders with more potent venom are better able to kill large prey – as are those that work together.
I actually like this better than the idea of monsters made by pollution.  The toxic monster genre can’t really be about nature striking back because the creatures in it are truly un-natural.  When it is evolution that makes monsters, that is nature demonstrating that it is more powerful than we are.  It’s also more realistic, I guess, though only in a movie-science-y kind of way.  It’s not very plausible that the spiders could evolve so fast – the major changes in their behaviour would probably take many, many thousands of generations – but at least we know that evolution is a thing that happens, whereas exposure to radiation or toxic chemicals just kills stuff.  Too bad the concept seems to make for terrible movies.
Unfortunately, if the movie’s point is supposed to be that nature is tougher than us, the vague ending kind of undercuts it.  As I mentioned, we don’t really know if the protagonists are going to live to see another day.  Diane says that if insects turned on humanity we wouldn’t last long, but at the end the main characters are still alive.  There are movies in which an open ending is perfectly appropriate, but in this one it just feels incomplete.  If I were writing this, I would have the humans escape to another town or city, onto to find that the spiders have gotten there first.  That would be a little cliché, but it would make the point that while minor victories are possible, in the end the battle of man versus nature can only have one winner.
Kingdom of the Spiders is fairly well-known as a ‘bad movie’, and I expected I would either love it or hate it, but in the end I did neither.  I dislike Shatner’s characters rather strongly, but I’ve seen worse, and he’s not as stilted here as he is in some of his work.  The rest of them are okay.  The music sucks but it’s pretty forgettable, as opposed to things like The Sad Mushroom Ukelele Anthem that crawl inside your ear and nest there like a botfly larva (if you don’t know what that is, do not google it, I refuse to take responsibility for what you’ll learn).  I think a big part of the problem for both this and other spider movies like Tarantulas: the Deadly Cargo and Arachnophobia is just that live spiders don’t make good actors.  You can’t direct them.  It’s really hard to take something seriously as a threat when it’s just kinda wandering around.
Speaking of Arachnophobia, apparently producer Igo Kantor believed it was a deliberate ripoff of Kingdom of the Spiders.  He didn’t do anything about it because, and I quote, “you don’t go and sue Spielberg.” That’s a good enough excuse, I suppose, but I bet he and the makers of Parts: the Clonus Horror would have a lot to commiserate about.

The Fats follows a evolved fox-rat family of 8 brothers and 1 sister as they fight a human mad scientist and other threats to humanity alongside their adaptive father/mentor, 2 human allies and other cross-animals in the distant future while trying to accept each other as family. Patriot Fat(voiced by James Arnold Taylor) is the “den-mother and leader of the team and is the most calm and experienced member, but hurt his family and he will hunt you down to the ends of the Earth. He is a hard-headed and serious cone, scolding his siblings when they don't follow orders. He is colored brown, blue pants, has a red belt, black gloves and boots and has blue eyes.
Wreck Fat(voiced by Nolan North) is the most angry and self-loathing loner of the group. He often argues with Patriot about who should be leader of the team. However, they will work together when the situation calls of it.He has intense arm firepower, wiping out enemies in a matter of seconds. He is coloured grey, speaks with a New Yorker accent, red pants, red belt and hazel eyes.
Engineer Fat(voiced by Yuri Lowenthal) is the kind-hearted, calm and gentle pacifist and inventor of the team. He is socially awkward and book smart so much so that his sibling cannot keep up with him. Even though he shows a greater interest in technology than his training, nevertheless, he will defend his family and fight his opponents when there is no other choice. He is also skeptical as he believes humans do not exist and that animals have always been the sole species of Earth. He has red eyes, has a mole on his right cheek, has a cyborg arm, has metallic yellow pants, a blue belt and is coloured silver.
Mischief Fat(Voiced by Mikey Kelley) is the most wild, funny, immature and party-loving surfer dude of the team. He loves riding on his hoverboards, fighting evil and is extremely creative with arts. He is also a member of the Prank Trio along with Runt and Bullsnark. He wants to be part of the human world and he will convince his family to do the same by any means necessary. He also serves as an unofficial second-in-command  whenever he comes up with brilliant plans that save the day or gets the Fats out of life-threatening situations, becoming the closest thing a team has to a second leader. He also has a sad side as he borders on depression as a result of spending years with his siblings and father on a island. He is coloured Yellow, has freckles, dark blue pants, a gold belt, has a beard at 16 years old and has green eyes.
Angel Fat(Voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy) is the smart, tomboyish, arrogant and independent tech support of the team and bit of a narcissist and will often bring on about her intelligence. As the only female member of the family, she always has the best of intentions. She is coloured yellow, has a gap between two of her front teeth and has green eyes. She is a great mathematician as she can easily hack into any computer data base by correctly guessing their security codes, Unlike the rest of her family(who wear pants, gloves(except for Buster, Engineer and Growly), shoes and are shirtless), she has blond hair, wears a Fat shirt, is coloured mix-purple/Yellow as a result from a lab accident, has a pink belt and gloves and blue shorts with sockings.
Buster Fat(voiced by Steve Blum) is the biggest and most strongest member of the family. He loves training all day and he hates it when his sibling interrupt him. However, he has a good heart and will go by any means to protect them. He also cares for normal animals, fighting to his last breath to save them. He is coloured green, speaks with a Brooklyn accent, has dark green pants, yellow belt, black boots and has golden eyes.
Runt Fat(voiced by Josh Keaton) is the most dim-witted and dizy, yet lovable member of the team. He’s been part of the Prank Trio since Day One and is often made fun of his stupidity by siblings, however when the situation is necessary, it ultimately proves to be his greatest strength. He is also something of a womaniser as he tries to say something to cross-animal females, but can't bring out the exact words and he is the most gullible of the family, causing him believe whatever lies are told to him, even causing him to betray his family, only to rejoin them in one of the future games. Nonetheless, he is one of the most purest cross-animals, never truely joining evil and always finding out to know the truth about himself and his family. He is coloured red and has one red eye and one hazel eye.
Bullsnark Fat(voiced by Roger Craig Smith) is the adventure-loving everyman slacker, jester-like and thrill-seeker who wishes to travel the world. He is sarcastic, playful and completely devoid of cynicism. He is also one of the member of the Prank Trio along with Mischief and Runt. He’s very loyal to his family and always stands up for them and keeps his promises despite his impulsive and impatient nature. He can be sentimental when villains threaten the world and won't stop until they're defeated and can provide tactical strategies. He is coloured orange, has black boots and gloves, yellow pants, a blue belt and has purple eyes.
Growly Fat(voiced by Trevor Devall) is the strict and irritable, yet caring and kind-hearted powerhouse who breaks up fights between the family. He is prone to anger when someone pranks or tricks him, but deep down, he loves his family very much. He was born somewhere in Mississippi and he is also a history junkie as he collects every newspaper, article and art of the world's history. He isn't fond of humans too much until much later on in the game. He is coloured blue, speaks with a Southern accent, dark grey pants, green belt, black boots, and has blue eyes.
Hopper Frog(voiced by Billy West) is the mean, brash, cocky, militaristic and demanding yet kind-hearted father of the Fats, but as the game progresses, he becomes a more supportive, caring and wise parental figure. He has a soft spot for children and he will be a role model to them whenever he sees them. At the beginning of the game, he is overprotective of the Fats, fearing they could die if they go into the human world, but throughout the game, he accepts that his children are teenagers now and he says that he is proud of them. He wears a green military uniform with no pants, speaks like a mad scientist and has brown eyes.
Sarah Stewart(voiced by Jennifer Hale) is the most beautiful, kindhearted and attractive teenage girl the Fats have ever known. She was abused in school and she has recently graduated from high school to apply for science. She can also sense betrayal in strangers she doesn't know. She is also an orphan as she lives with her aunt, uncle and their daughter. She is a blond teenage girl with pink sleeveless shirt and blue jeans. She also has light freckles on her nose and baby blue eyes.
Peter Braxton(voiced by Ben Diskin) is the comedic, shy and loyal sports player whose life is forever changed when he meets the Fats. He is like a modern-day Prince Charming and he has a crush on Sarah Stewart when he first sees her, but does not kiss her until the end of the first game, He also becomes best friends with Wreck and Growly throughout the game as they play hologram games together. He is also a pacifist as he lost his father in a flying car accident and starts campaigns and TV ads to prevent anyone from suffering the same fate. He is a black haired teenage boy with orange eyes, a sports jumper and brown pants.
Dr. Otto Jekyll(voiced by Mike Pollock) is a highly selfish, insane, cocky and arrogant mad scientist and the main antagonist of the series. He wants to end peace and liberty on Earth and will do it by gaining control of the world's governments, police and money. He is also a deceptional liar as he constantly lies to the Fats and their friends, trying to convince them that he can help people have more improved lives until the end of the first game when he reveals his true motives. He is an mildly obese man with balding brown hair with a goatee and a lab coat with red clothing and black and white rubber gloves and boots. He also has yellow eyes. Gaming Mechanics:
1. The video game series will be an open-world where you can play side-missions and help people in addition to the main story. You can also visit other countries in free-roam in the game.
2. You can use multiplayer as 4 of the each titular 9 Fats with the ability to change between the 8 other Fats until all 9 are all dead and the game resets.
3. You can have collectibles, art and unlock new weapons throughout each level of the game.
4. You can also play as the human characters Sarah Stewart and Peter Braxton in stealth missions.
5. Once you’ve completed the game, you can revisit any of the levels. So you won't have to worry getting through 13 hours without completing the entire game 100%.
6. As I said, you can fire weapons with 2 of the Fats, Engineer and Angel who are the tech support of the team while the rest of the team fight hand to hand.
7. The game will have the feel of a Disney movie , Thomas Perkins-like art, the art of Ratchet & Clank and the backgrounds of Young Justice and The Super Hero Squad while still rendered as a 3D dimensional video game.
And lastly, here’s the title for the prequel tie-in novel: The Raoxs: Animals of Science.
Series Outline:Set in an utopian future where all war, problems and disease has been wiped out, the Fats live on a peaceful island with their adaptive Frog father, Hopper Frang, but they have never truly accepted each other as family or understood their father’s lectures, even starting a war with one another once. On their 16th birthday, they are allowed to leave the island and venture into the Human world. But when a scientist named Dr. Otto Jekyll(a pun on the Dr. Jekyll character from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) becomes Dr. Peace-Destroyer and threatens to end the era of peace by conquering the world, the Fats are forced to come to term with their calling as a family and what it means to be heroes with the help of 17-year old science intern (smart blond) Sarah Stewart and 18-year old Sports player Peter Braxton.
This would be a Playstation 4 and Playstation 5-exclusive and would be rated E+10 for more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language, and/or minimal suggestive themes.

Ximena’s words hit Kaela like a knife to the heart, her breath catches her throat trying to process everything, her body trembled unable to form the next words. This can’t be happening, this can’t be happening. “Tell me this isn’t true X, tell me this is just one of Colt’s stupid plans or something.” She stammers. “How do you even know it’s him it could be someone else?!”
“Because. Because we were working together on a job when it happened. Something went wrong the cops got wind of our operation and they ended up chasing him, the roads were slippery from the rain and he. He just lost control. I overheard from the police scanner that he was found dead on the spot. Kaela I really am so so sorry, I know how much Colt meant to you, how much you both meant to each other.” She informs Kaela regretfully.
“W— Where is he?” Kaela asks her breath shaky but Ximena hesitates from answering. “Ximena where is Colt? Where did they take the body? Please answer me!” She pleads desperately. Ximena could feel that Kaela was hurt and being in denial, not wanting to face the reality of losing Colt. She treads carefully before she finally speaks. “Kaela, it’s not a good idea. The accident it messed Colt up badly, he wouldn’t want that image of him to be the last thing you remember.”
“I don’t care Ximena!” She belted. “I want to see it with my own eyes. I have to please, please, please.” Her voice cracks, her eyes start welling with tears. “Please I need to see him.”
Ximena hesitates again but finally gives in, she gives Kaela the address. Kaela quickly grabs her purse and keys from the counter but before she hangs up there was something else Ximena had to tell her. “Kaela before you go you should know, your dad. He is the one who is handling the case.” Kaela pauses at the threshold of the door when Ximena mentions her dad, they haven’t been close ever since the whole MPC argument. Sure they talked every once in a while to catch up on each others lives but things were never the same as they were before.
She closes her eyes then lets out a calm sigh. “Thank you Ximena, I know you’re risking a lot just by calling me right now.” “Take care Kaela.” Ximena advises her then hangs up. Kaela shoves her phone into her handbag slamming the door behind her quickly races to find Colt.
****
Kaela drove as fast as she could, hitting the gas pedal speeding across the highway. Swiftly maneuvering through the city and over taking every car that was in her way, she could feel the rush of adrenaline in her blood. “I promise I’ll find away for us to be together again.” The memory of Colt’s words the last time they saw each other came crashing back, tears began welling up in her eyes once more and she quickly wiped them away. She needed to see if it was really. Please don’t let it be him. She quickly put her car in park upon arriving at the coroner's office. Getting out and slammed the car door behind her, not caring that she was double parked.
“Excuse me miss you can’t be here at this hour.” The security at the front desk exclaimed as she barges into the building. Kaela ignores the security guard, quickly pacing past him looking at the signs above for the morgue. She turns the corner and she sees him, her dad standing outside the door that leads to the morgue. “Dad!” She called running towards him. Mr. Matsuo turns his eyes widen, hands in his pocket. “Kaela? W— What are you doing here?” He stutters. “You shouldn’t be here Kaela.”
“I need to see him.I need to know if it’s really him” She tries to head for the door leading to the morgue but he stops her blocking her path giving her a regretful look. “Dad what are you doing to get out of my way.”
“Kaela please don't do this, don’t make yourself hurt anymore than you already have.” He pleads but Kaela doesn’t listen trying to force her way in. He finally shows her a clear evidence bag to get her attention. “Kaela these are some of the things we found on him or at least what we managed to salvage.” She swallows a lump in her throat when she sees what was in it, among the things was a familiar Jade Kitsune.
****
Flashback here..
It was the night of senior prom, the first time Colt and Kaela confessed their love for each other, it was also the first time they slept together. The first time she gave herself to someone. Kaela nestled herself under his arms, her head resting on his bare chest feeling a sense of total bliss. How could anyone with the tendency to bring danger wherever he goes make her feel so safe at the same time. “What’s on your mind sweetheart?” Colt calmly asked while he traced soothing lines on her arm.
“Just thinking about how much I wished we could stay like this forever. No schemes, no bad guys to take down. Just us.. like this in this moment.” She murmured.
“Believe me I’ve been thinking the same thing.” He replied then heaves a sigh. “But we’re going to have to go back to reality soon.”
Kaela turned stretching her hand toward the side table grabbing her small clutch, she opened it and took out a small jade pendant then handed it to Colt. “Is this a Kitsune?” Colt asked cocking an eyebrow as he rubbed his fingers on the Jade pendant. “Mhmm..” She hummed nestling herself back into his arms. He turned the Kitsune behind and noticed some Japanese symbol engraved to it.
ケイラ
“What does this mean?” He questioned. Kaela rolled onto her stomach, propping her head on her hands and smiled when she saw the engraving on the Jade pendant. “It’s supposed to be a translation of my name when written in Kanji. When I was a child, my cousin was babysitting me and decided it was a good idea to let a six year old watch a horror movie. I was traumatized for weeks after that, I couldn’t sleep without the lights on. Then one day my mom gave me this, she told me that Jade crystals are used in asian cultures to ward off evil and that Kitsune’s are known to bring wisdom, long life and luck.”
“They are also known to be tricksters.” He added with a devilish grin. “You’re not the only one with some Japanese blood running through their veins, remember?”
“Maybe that’s why I’m attracted to you.” She winked. “Really? I thought it was because of how cute I was.” He chuckled and she swats him playfully, her expression quickly changes into something sincere. “I want you to have it Colt. It kept me safe all these years, it would make me feel better knowing you have it with you.”
“Kaela I can’t take this from you. You said so yourself your mom gave it to you. I know that this must mean a lot.” He replied.
“It does, but you mean a lot more to me so I want you to have it. Just promise me you’ll keep it with you wherever you go.” She grinned.
Colt doesn’t answer at first instead he pulled her into a deep kiss, when they parted he tucks a strand of loose hair behind her ear. “I promise you, I’ll keep this close to me until my very last breath.”
***
Present day..
Kaela’s shoulders drop when she sees the Jade Kitsune she gave Colt the night of her senior prom. She felt her body tremble and drops on to her knees, pressing her hands on her head and cries. “No, no, no.This can’t be. This can’t. I can't. I can't. I... I can't. I can't. No. It hurts. It hurts. Just make it stop! Please make it stop! It hurts!”
Mr.Matsuo saw how much the news affected her. His heart feels like it’s breaking into a million pieces watching his daughter like this but what’s done can’t be undone. He kneels down and gives her a tight hug rubbing soothing circles trying to comfort her. “It’s okay Kaela. It’s going to be okay. You’re going to be okay.”
But how could she be? Every inch of her body was hurting when the realization that she would never see him, talk to him or touch him ever again hit her. That last piece of hope that she was clinging on to that piece that kept her going it was gone. Kaela couldn’t think, she couldn’t breathe, She felt like she was suffocating. “I can’t. I can’t breathe. I can’t. Please make it stop. Dad just make it stop! Make it stop!”
****
A few months have passed since she got the heartbreaking news about Colt, they say a broken heart will heal over time but time did nothing for Kaela. Losing Colt hit her hard, she was falling back on all her classes, her grades were slipping, so she decided to take a semester off. She lost a lot of weight because she wasn’t eating well, she wouldn’t leave her apartment unless she had to work or buy some things at the grocery. She isolated herself from the outside world.
“Ah! What the actual fuck?!” Kaela growls as the blinding sunlight pierces through her eyes.
“Get up, we’re going out tonight!” Riya exclaims after opening the curtains, she pulls Kaela’s blanket away from her. Kaela takes a small plush pillow next to her and covers her face from the blinding light, letting out an exasperated sigh. “Go away Riya, I’m not in the mood to go anywhere right now.”
“I'm serious Kaela!” Riya insisted placing both hands on her waist but Kaela pretends not to care. When she sees how stubborn Kaela was being, she drops her shoulders and heaves a sigh. She hated seeing her best friend like this, she takes a sit on the bed next to Kaela. “Listen, I know how much you loved Colt and I can’t imagine what you’ve been going through but it’s been almost 3 months Kaela, even if you’re not over him you can’t just live your life like this forever. When was the last time you went out for fresh air or even had a proper meal?” Riya asked but Kaela still refuses to answer her. “I’m not asking you to move on from Colt if you’re not ready, I just don’t want you to spend the rest of your life miserable and all alone. You haven’t been out in ages, who knows this could be good for you? Meeting new people, opening new doors. Just try Kaela, if not for me then for yourself.” Riya got up from Kaela’s bed and heads for the door she hesitates at the threshold then looks over at Kaela. “There’s a party tonight at Mike's house if you happen to change your mind I’ve sent you the e-vite along with the address. I really hope you’ll come.
Kaela waited until Riya left the apartment before getting out of bed, feeling dizzy as she slowly stood up. She heads to the bathroom dragging her fit. A nice long soak in the tub would be good. She dips her hand into the water to make sure the temperature was right. As soon as the bath was ready, she strips off her clothes and slowly stepped into the bathtub.
She closed her eyes trying to relax, trying to forget until mind slowly drifted and she found herself submerged in the water. But then she hears the voices, a surge of memories come crashing all at once. I love you Kaela.. I promise I’ll find a way for us to be together again.. Kaela I’m sorry… I can't. I can't. No. It hurts. It hurts.. Just make it stop! Please make it stop! It hurts!... I love you, Colt. Hold on to that. Kaela emerges from the water, gasping for air. She could feel her heart pounding as she panted, trying to catch her breath.
Once she managed to compose herself, she gets out of the tub and dries off before wrapping herself in a towel then heads to the sink. Kaela wipes the mist that built up on the mirror, she then leans against the sink staring at her reflection. She doesn’t recognize the person standing in front of her, it looked like an entirely different person, like someone who was broken inside and out. Fuck maybe Riya was right, I need to get out of this apartment a night out should help make me forget.

A/N: Here is the long awaited Part 5! The four months are nearly up, but what has Michael been up to? Has he behaved? It’s about to go down as Michael and the reader return to Murder House once more. We have some lovely fluff in this Chapter as love begins to form between our babies and some hella drama too. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
The pan sizzles the moment I place down the eggy bread. While one side is cooking I watch Michael busy dressing up his own stack of French Toast. He’s gone to town as usual, dousing it in maple syrup, whipped cream and strawberries. The entire thing looks more dessert than breakfast. He catches my eye and holds out the can of whipped cream, ‘You know it’s customary.’
I slip the bread, happy with the golden side and dart over. Michael squeezes cream into my mouth and I push him away when he doesn’t stop. I splutter as it drips out of my mouth, ‘Damn snake.’
He’s laughing his ass off, ‘You fall for it every time.’
‘Cause I think maybe this time you’re not gonna be a dick.’ I wipe the rest off on a tea towel and slap it in his direction, Michael’s body vanishes only to re-appear right behind me. I’m ready for him though, scooping cream onto my fingertips and smearing it down his shirt.
‘Hey!’
‘Serves you right.’ I grin triumphantly, admiring the stain I’ve left. ‘And you’re gonna wash it yourself.’ I add, ‘I’m not doing your laundry again, I know you’re sneaking your stuff in with mine.’
Michael rolls his eyes, but then a smirk appears on his face, ‘You’ve burned the beautiful French Toast.’
My eyes dart to the pan which has begun to sizzle horrible. I turn back to Michael and offer him my nicest smile, ‘No breakfast for you then.’ I seize his perfect plate and run towards the dining table.
I can hear Michael taking the pan off the heat, he’s soon at my side armed with the whipped cream again, ‘Release my food or I will show you no mercy.’ A thrill licks up my spine at his words and I shove it back down. Michael stands before me in his red pyjamas, the bottoms hanging low on his hips. I can see his tummy peeking out from where his shirt has risen up, the V that extends down below. I pull my eyes back to his face and Michael’s eyes darken, ‘That’s the second time I’ve seen you do that.’
To distract him I send the whipped cream whizzing away from him, it changes direction in the air and flies right back at me. Michael and I face down, the battle of wills more a game than anything else. This is how best to teach him, to let Michael show off and learn what he and cannot do mainly by having fun. He doesn’t take anything in sitting at a desk and copying facts, he’s a practical dynamic person. But he’s not quite as accomplished as me, not yet. Michael’s hand reaches out at the last minute and catches the can, his hand is shaking against the magic I’m using but he places it down on the table and for extra measure I force him to take a seat.
‘I was so close.’ He mumbles, crossing his arms.
‘You’re doing much better.’ I praise, ‘I almost broke a sweat that time.’
He scowls at me, ‘Enjoy it while it lasts, Y/N.’ I start on his breakfast, Michael watching me the entire time. ‘Y/N,’ He whines. ‘Save me some.’
I eat half and then push the plate over to him. I can’t resist Michael’s pout or the way his large eyes watch me greedily, he devours it the second the plate is in front of him and I grab some orange juice for us both. I stifle a yawn, filling up two glasses as Michael puts my fork down, ‘So is today the day?’
‘What?’
Michael is apprehensive, his hands clutching onto his chair. He’s nearly bobbing up and down in excitement but for what I’m not exactly sure. Michael gives me time to figure it out, but I’ve got nothing. He can wait no longer, the words blurting out of his mouth ‘It’s been four months.’
I bite my lip, ‘Michael-’
‘You said four months was the benchmark-’
‘Of when we would see how far you’ve come yes.’ I agree, ‘Do you want me to test you?’
Michael cocks his head to the side, ‘I kinda thought that since we’ve seen each other everyday for the past four months you’d be able to tell.’
‘I see your point.’ I’m hedging and Michael knows it. He shoves himself away from the table, ‘I’ve done everything you’ve asked.’ He says, ‘I’ve learned magic, I haven’t been near the house, I do the grocery shopping, and the accounts, I went all the way to Pottery Barn to pick up our new sofa by myself.’
‘Yes you’ve come a long way.’ I stop his pacing, capturing Michael by his shoulders. He stops the moment I make contact, his breathing accelerated from how worked up Michael is. My hands glide down his arms till I take his hands, ‘I think you’re ready.’
Michael lights up, his eyes sparkling in the way I’ve always loved. He squeezes my hands, ‘I can go see them? I can come with you this time?’
‘I suppose.’
‘Today?’
‘Today, Michael?’ I shouldn’t be so taken aback by his eagerness, but I am every time. Michael is like a lit fuse, fixating on one idea. He’s relentless and jumpy until he finally burns himself out and either completely abandons the idea, or lights an even deadlier spark. First it was Michael pushing his magical ability, zapping round the house and levitating everything within reach till his adventures had ended in a horrible accident involving next door’s cat. The poor thing didn’t want to be Transmutated, and I hadn’t even know it was possible to do it to other objects, let alone living creatures.
It took me three days to convince Michael to leave his bedroom. He’d been terrified this would go against all the good progress he’d put in, but seeing the remorse in those tear-filled eyes I’d turned a blind eye.
This time.
Michael’s next fixation was me. He’d been dormant since my rejection in the hotel room, but as the ex-Antichrist settled into a routine, Michael became bolder. Michael likes to put his hands on me, never in a violent manner. He likes to keep me close by at all times and I like it. He boarders on being possessive and I know passersby including Mrs Greendale thinks we’re just a young couple living together. She waves at us the moment we step outside, as if poised to greet us.
Michael offers her his customary wave, ‘Good Morning, Mrs Greendale.’
‘Michael,’ She gushes, ‘Where are you off to so early?’
‘We’re visiting my parents.’ He beams, sliding his hand into mine.
Mrs Greendale’s eyes follow Michael’s actions and then she offers me a tight smile, ‘Accompanying him, Y/N?’
‘Yes. I offer, unlocking the car and dropping myself into the driver’s seat. Michael entertains Mrs Greendale for another minute before he slides in beside me, fighting back his mirth, ‘What?’
‘You could try and disguise your derision a little more.’
‘Well when she does something other than casting her judgement on my clothes then I’ll speak to her.’
Michael smirks, ‘It isn’t what you wear that gets under her skin.’ My head snaps round to look at him, but Michael just clicks his seatbelt in place and reveals nothing more. I wait for him, lifting an eyebrow. ‘I think you look great.’
You suck in a breath, ‘Thanks, Michael.’
She doesn’t like me, but I think that’s because a perverted part of her wants Michael for herself. Mrs Greendale’s husband divorced her a year ago. He left her the house but took the kids with him and so the aging divorcee fills her days with gardening and inviting Michael over for cream tea and oreos. Michael love the attention. He breezes in the door with the rest of the biscuit packet and crumbs round his mouth most times, full of insightful tidbits about the rest of our street. That’s one thing they have in common, both are horrific gossips and Michael can extract any truth from her botoxed lips.
‘She did let me know that the Montgomerys are looking for someone to do their books.’
I keep my eyes on the road, ‘The Montgomerys.’
‘The ones in the huge house.’ Michael adds, ‘They’re looking for someone local, someone they can trust and Mrs Greendale said she’d suggested me. It’s cute, I suppose.’
‘Yeah.’ The name is circling round in my mind.
There are plenty of families with the surname Montgomery.
‘Apparently their daughter died a couple of years ago.’
‘Madison?’ The name escapes like a whisper.
‘Yeah, apparently she was in the movies and then went off to some elite boarding school.’ Michael peers at me, ‘You’re interested in this? You hate gossip.’
‘Well it’s not everyday a movie star dies. Especially so young.’
Michael’s smarter than that, ‘You already know.’
‘Do not look into my mind.’
‘I don’t need to.’ Michael’s eyes widen, delighting in once again being able to unravel me. His hand slides onto my thigh and I seriously debate pulling over, ‘Tell me.’
Can I?
‘I knew her.’
‘You went to that boarding school.’ Michael guess, ‘That’s where you learned magic. It’s Hogwarts-‘
‘No it isn’t.’ I correct, pushing Michael’s hand off me. ‘I came after she died, so we didn’t speak-’
‘You just said you knew her.’
‘Knew of her.’
Michael looks out the window. The Murder House is coming up ahead of us, but Michael’s lost his earlier excitement. ‘I thought we weren’t lying to each other?’
I stop at a red light, ‘If you want to go and fix their books you can. I won’t stop you.’
‘Good because you wouldn’t be able to.’
He’s got me there. I may have leashed Michael but he isn’t above running to Mrs Greendale or anyone else if he really wants to. He could still blow everything we’ve worked to build these past months. ‘Fucking Mrs Greendale.’
Michael grins, ‘If it wasn’t for her we wouldn’t have an income.’
‘The dividends?’
‘Apart from them.’ Michael corrects himself, ‘The mystery money.’ He lets it go for now, but I know it’s only a matter of time before Michael builds up a case about where we’re getting the bulk of our funds from.
‘I work too.’
‘Yeah, at Urban Outfitters.’ I roll my eyes, but Michael isn’t done. ‘I get paid fifty bucks per hour-’
‘Yes, Michael thank you for rubbing it in.’
‘And I have lots of clients now.’
Thankfully we’ve arrived so I can put some distance between the two of us. I undo my seatbelt, ‘Wait in the car.’
‘Why?’
’So I gave can give them some warning.’
Michael scowls, folding his long arms. ‘I’m their son. They shouldn’t need warning.’
‘Well they don’t know you’re coming and I think we should avoid another fight.’
He has no choice but to agree with me. I look over Michael but he avoids my eye. I can’t see his face, but that doesn’t stop me appreciating the growth he’s made in such a short time. His golden curls are styled into place, combined with a dark-red turtleneck and grey coat. Michael blows onto his hands and rubs them together. Without thinking I crank on the car heater for him. The air has started to chill as we sink further into November. I take his hand in mine and lean over, right as Michael turns his face back towards me. Our lips touch and then I’m pulling away, ‘I won’t be long.’
Michael watches me get out. I don’t look back. I don’t think about what just happened. I don’t want to face the consequences of such a move.
It had been a mistake, just catching each other off-guard.
Do not look back, Y/N.
The gate has been left open, they know I’m coming. I head straight into Ben’s office where we always agree to meet. Tate is there, along with Vivian. ‘It’s been-’
‘Four months,’ Vivian finishes.
‘You said you would evaluate him.’ It feels wrong to be talking about Michael like this, but I’ve found it easier to handle Vivian like this. The mother cannot see Michael as hers and there is a voice at the back of my head that worries she never will.
Vivian and Ben exchange looks. Tate stands up from his seat opposite Ben, ‘And there’s been nothing?’
Our kiss flashes bright in my head, but I just smile. ‘Nothing, he’s rather into his accounting if you’ll believe it. All the women in our suburb adore Michael and he just loves the attention.’
Ben’s pride is evident, ‘He’s got his mother’s brain then.’
Vivian doesn’t rise to her husband’s praise, ‘I suppose there’s nothing preventing you from bringing him with you next time.’
‘Unless there is something.’ Tate’s searching me carefully, looking for any little tell I may give him.
I meet him dead on, ‘Nothing. Michael’s behaviour has been exemplary.’ I look around the room, ‘Where’s Violet?’
Tate slides past me, ‘I’ll get her.’
I watch Tate leave, his eagerness showing in the strides he takes. I wait till he’s gone, ‘Everything all okay here?’
‘Violet’s still obsessing over you moving her on.’ Ben reveals, ‘Ever since you said about her body she wants to see if it can be done.’
‘I suppose we can try.’ I’m not too keen on the idea, but I really like Violet, ‘She knows it means not seeing you all?’
‘We’ve told her that we would always prefer he to be somewhere better.’ Vivian says, ‘Even if it can’t be with us.’
These are the parents Michael needs. Ben and Vivian, united together. Ben moves to hold Vivian’s hand and she flinches away. Their in the early days of re-forming their relationship, Vivian still learning to trust her husband again. I hope they can move past their indifference, if not for Michael then for their own happiness.
Tate reappears with Violet, hand in hand. Those two only needed the smallest of pushes, Violet avoiding my eyes at how openly affectionate they are being. ‘Who’s in your car?’
All the eyes in the room slide to me, ‘He wouldn’t take no for an answer.’
‘Michael’s here?’ Vivian has the disappointed parent tone down.
‘He’s just eager.’
‘Oh shit is gonna go down,’ Violet grins.
‘Not helping, Vi.’ Ben scolds, getting up and heading to the front door. He peers out the window, no doubt spying on Michael would I hope to the heavens is still being patient. If he’s got out…well then I think we may go back to Square One.
Tate joins Ben and we can hear their voices, ‘He’s in the car.’ But then there’s some scuffling and a yelp and the sound of a door opening. I wheel about, ready for Michael but Tate’s voice rings loud and clear, ‘Mom?’
My mouth drops open and before I can do anything Constance Langdon is before me. She looks down her nose, pointing a manicured finger at me, ‘So you are the one who is visiting these people.’
‘Constance.’ Vivian tries, but Constance silences her with a look.
‘I’ve seen you, Little Miss.’ Constance advances upon me, ‘You have been visiting this house for the past four months. I’ve seen you waltzing in and out of here without so much of a scratch on you.’
‘I guess I’m just really fortunate.’
‘You should be dead.’ Constance spits, ‘Chewed up and all ghostly by now.’
Tate is back with Ben just behind him, ‘You need to leave, Mom.’
Constance looks from each member of the Harmon family and then to her son, ‘So you’re all defending her?’ She places a hand to her chest, ‘Even my own son doesn’t want me here.’
‘Well you aren’t dead, Mom.’ Tate says, earning a grin from Violet.
I need to fake something before this gets any worse, ‘Can I not visit the place I’m interested in buying?’
‘And why would you want this hellhole?’ Constance fires back, ‘Some two-bit rat like you, probably with an obsession for death and destruction, no?’
‘What is your problem?’ Violet asks. She’s moved to stand over beside her parents and is giving Constance the nastiest expression I have yet to see on her face, ‘Can’t you go ruin other lives?’
It isn’t worth it, not today.
‘It’s fine.’ I say, ‘I’ll leave.’
I head straight for the exit, my heels clicking on the wooden floorboards. I have to get to Michael and take us home. He can’t see Constance or who knows what he might do. A second set of heels follow just behind me and I transmute myself quickly back upstairs into Violet’s room. I sit down on the bed quietly, hoping I’ve lost her. If I’d gone outside Michael would be in jeopardy.
‘Well hello again.’
I know that voice, ‘Hayden.’
The brunette looks so smug. She inclines a thumb towards the door, ‘Got yourself in some trouble?’
‘Do not do anything.’
Hayden’s tongue wets her lips, ‘There are a lot more spirits in this house than just the Harmons.’ She says, ‘Do you really think the rest of us all delight in your visits? Some of us want peaceful lives.’
‘I understand that.’ I head over to the window to check on the car. As far as I can tell, Michael hasn’t moved. Hayden has followed me and I nearly walk into her, ‘Just do this one thing for me.’
She considers me, ‘I’ll want payment.’
‘What do you want?’
‘Michael.’
My mouth drops open, ‘You have to be kidding me.’
Hayden looks completely non-plussed, ‘He wants to be with his family and I want him. He’s a snack and there’s so little to do around here.’ She smirks at me, ‘Hand over the boy-toy and I’ll keep shut.’
‘Forget it.’
‘CONSTANCE!’
I shove Hayden out of my way but lucky is not on my side. Constance was already on the stairs and all it took was Hayden’s shout to tip her off. The ghost slips away from the impending fight and out into the hallway, passing Constance as she goes. Hayden points a finger towards me and Constance barrels inside, bearing down on me. Her eyes gleam with victory, ‘A witch.’ She declares, ‘Now that is something new.’
She’s blocking the door, I have nowhere to run. ‘What do you want?’
She eyes me, ‘Where is my Grandson?’ My lack of a reply only infuriate her more, ‘Where is Michael Langdon?’
Footsteps thud upstairs, Tate and Violet joining us in the crowded bedroom. ‘What are you doing, Mom?’ Tate asks, ‘So Y/N’s been visiting. Why do you care?’
‘Be quiet, Tate.’ Constance says, ‘This doesn’t involve you.’
‘You were screaming about Michael.’ Violet points out, ‘If you want to hurt him, it involves us.’
Constance looks between the two teenagers, ‘You are making a big mistake.’
’Then we’ll deal with the consequences.’ Tate says, his arms squeezing Violet’s waist.
Could it be, Tate Langdon has accepted his son?
The picture before me is rather amusing. Constance’s mouth hangs open, loose at the jaw like a bullfrog. Her red lipstick stretches and needs another coat and a strand of hair has escaped her nest of hairspray and pins. Tate faces down his mother, still wearing that god awful green striped jumper.
Finally, Constance recovers herself and rounds on me again. ‘Now I don’t know how you managed to save a dead boy, but I trust my own eyes and they saw you and Michael leave this house a couple’a months ago. I didn’t say anything then, thinking I was still in shock from everything. From losing the boy I’d raised all these years. But you kept on coming back and the only tie you have with this house is him.’
‘You don’t know that.’ Violet interjects, but her words fall on deaf ears.
I look around for another exit. The window, maybe? Is it worth transmuting after all and driving off.
No, Constance wouldn’t rest till she found us. Till she found Michael.
She’s got me and she knows it.
‘You left him to die.’ I speak slowly, ‘I couldn’t do that. Not when I had the chance to step in and save a life.’
Constance rests her hands on her hips, victorious from my admission. ‘You stupid girl. Do you realise what you have done?’
‘I do.’ I tell her, ‘More than you could ever know.’
‘That boy doesn’t deserve to breathe another whiff of air.’
My temper is starting to flair, my hands closing into fists. ’Don’t you dare talk about him like that.’
But I’ve never come across an opponent like Constance Langdon. She pauses, taking me in from the top of my head right down to my leather boots. A sick satisfaction spreads all over her face, her tongue pushing to the side and swiping at her top lip. The action is so familiar, so Michael it topples me over. A mean trill of laughter escapes from her, ‘You’ve fallen for him.’
Tate and Violet look to each other and then to me.
I swallow, ’You know nothing.’
Constance isn’t backing down. ‘I know the glow of love.’ She says, stepping closer to me, closing the distance between us. ‘I know what it’s like to love so fiercely you would do anything to protect someone. That’s how I feel about my children.’ She pushes a strand of hair out of my eyes, ‘You’re a witch, for Christ’s sake. You should be doing great things, curing Cancer and the like. You’re too good for my Grandson.’ Her smile is cruel, ‘Not that he knows what love is.’
‘He does.’ I say, ‘I’ve seen him love. Michael loved you, Constance.’
‘Enough.’ She snaps, lift a hand up as if she can waft me away. ‘He broke my heart.’ Constance is a good actress, her eyes fill with tears on cue, her hands dabbing at them. ‘All I wanted was for him to be my perfect little boy. I forgave the animals, I forgave the Goddamn Nanny. But it was too much. That child is nothing but a monster.’
Tate takes a step forward, ‘You need to leave, Mom.’
We’re locked in a battle of eye-contact. ’You don’t mean that,’ I whisper.
Constance’s hand slides into her dress pocket. The revolver gleams, metallic black, aimed right at me. ‘I will not let you unleash Michael on this world.’
Tate jumps in front of me, before I can react. ‘Put the gun down.’
His Mom remains firm, ’Move, Tate.’
‘What are you gonna do, shoot him anyway?’ Violet asks, ‘He’s already dead.’
‘Good point.’
BANG.
A shot rings out and hits Tate in the stomach. He jolts back from the close-range shot, the bullet ripping out of his back. Violet screams and I dive under the bed for cover. There’s a thud and then Tate’s unseeing eyes are all I can see from my new position. There’s more footsteps now and Violet’s screams continue to punctuate the air. Someone is fighting, maybe Violet and then my ankle is being yanked, my body being dragged out from my hiding spot.
BANG.
Another shot is fired and then Violet’s screaming stops. I summon my magic to push Constance as far way from me as I can, but she already has the gun to my head. Tate’s regaining consciousness, but he can’t help me now. I don’t know where Violet is, or who is coming to help. I stop struggling, staring down the barrel of a gun.
I’ve come so far.
I’ve lost so much.
Constance lifts her head high, ‘He should be burning down in the depths of hell.’ She proclaims, ‘Right where he belongs.’ She clicks the safety off again, ‘But you have to go first, so I can get to him.’
Her body jolts and at first I don’t know what’s going on. I’m too busy, rolling away from the gun whose third bullet grazes my shoulder. I cry out, my hand flying to cling onto my wound, blood spilling over my fingers. Tate crawls to my side, but his eyes are on his Mom.
Then I notice the knife sticking out of her abdomen. Constance takes in a gasp of air, her hands parting from her sides as the hilt slides out of her. She remains standing for a couple seconds longer and then crumples to the floor.
Ben and Vivian have joined us, along with Hayden, Moira and Chad. Vivian runs straight to Violet who is just picking herself off the floor.
So the second bullet went to Violet.
No one speaks, everyone remains completely silent, watching the pool of blood appear from underneath Constance’s body. Hayden is the first to speak, ‘Well bitch is gonna be here forever now. Just what we need.’
‘Pity,’ Chad remarks.
Yes, Constance will forever be a resident of the Murder House. Her body stills and her spirit is released into the house, but she isn’t going to show herself for a while. She wouldn’t dare to now. Tate helps me stand and then heads over to check on Violet, ‘My Mom shot me.’ He wheels round, ‘Fucking shot me.’
I tune him out. Nothing else matters but the knife, still scarlet with Constance’s blood and the golden-haired boy holding it tight in his hand.

Even after finishing your education you continue to live apart from the elite, but a visit home creates an unexpected disaster. You are suddenly roped into a darker world, and who better to be your guide than the infamous gang known as BTS.
A/N: You finally get some answers you may have been looking for. There’s a lot of heavy backstory in this chapter so be prepared.
Chapter 6 - Inherent Duality
POV (Y/N)
“I honestly don’t know where to fucking start.” Your rage is barely contained behind your words.
“Allow me.” V offers. “What the hell was that JK?! Do you not know a screenshot when you see one? (Y/N) knew something was off and she couldn’t even see the footage.”
“I’m sorry V I wasn’t expecting it.”
“Wasn’t expecting it?! If they had any intention of killing us, we would be dead right now.”
You are still ruminating over what to ask first as V exhausts himself from yelling. Would they even give you a truthful answer to your questions? Did your mother really die at the hands of a gang? They keep sending you nervous glances, expecting you to go off on them at any moment. You hold your tongue, making them suffer in apprehension.
“(Y/N), we were...” Jimin looks as if he’s about to repeat his earlier sentiment.
“Save it, you had your chance. Unless you are going to explain it all to me now, save your apologies. I don’t want them.” You answer coldly.
No one speaks up.
When you reach the apartment, you jump out of the car the second it stops. JK appears in the doorway blocking your path in. “Is RM back yet?” You ask shortly.
JK shakes his head.
“I want to know the second he comes in the door.”
You take the earpiece out, placing it in JK’s hand as you brush past him. Jimin makes an attempt to follow you but V places a hand on his shoulder. You hurry up to your room locking the door behind you. There’s a laptop on the desk, you assume for your own use. Taking it over to the bed you bury yourself beneath the covers. You log on to your server, from an offsite route. Authorizing your access with the thumbprint on your phone.
Info regarding the police records for Seoul would be difficult to obtain, your own connection didn’t reach that far. JK’s server suddenly becomes visible on your computer. Gaining access should be more difficult, he must be granting you passage. Luckily for you he has back ups of all of the police files in Seoul.
You narrow the date range and area. Finding only a small initial report on the accident, no additional findings, no follow up investigation, nothing. You widen the parameters, but the results are still dry. You are almost ready to give up when a message pops up with an attachment.
JK- RM just sent me this. He’s not back yet, but he said you might find it informative...
You click the icon hands shaking. The full investigation unravels before you under the label of homicide. It was true then, someone had taken her from you, someone had intentionally caused your family’s suffering.
You continue to read the file, your former and current name appears.
...Park (Y/N) has been placed under the care of (L/N) Miran, her mother’s sister.  She will be serving as her guardian, as it is believed that she might be targeted in the future. All official records such as birth, medical, and school records have been redacted and placed under the trust of their legal representation.  Mr. Park as been an asset in paying for the removal of any media articles and pictures of Park (Y/N).  In addition Park will no longer reference his daughter in public and any visits between the two will take place in a location outside of Korea...
No wonder no one knew about you, even the police files had been redacted to protect your identity.  You had always thought that your father kept his distance because he missed your mother, that being around you was too painful. You had not expected that he was just trying to hide you. But why? Why would they threaten your father with the lives of his family? It is clear that the police had never found the responsible party.
Instead they must have felt it was best to leave you in Busan with your Aunt. She was somewhat estranged from your mother’s family, not even go to your parents wedding. Leaving her to be the perfect guardian for your special case, a secluded blood relative. She had died of cancer two years ago. You remember her funeral well, just you and a few of her work colleges. You were furious at your father for not attending, but now you understood why. Even after Aunt Miran’s death you father never brought you home, electing to take you on trips outside of the country.
You were and still are surrounded by people who had lied to protect you. You couldn’t handle it anymore. Secrets weren’t a form of safety, but a prison. When would people understand that?
You spend several hours looking through files for similar cases, aiming to find any clue as to who was responsible. You groan in despair from your fruitless search and the agony of your shoulder.
Information about your mother is your priority, but what Suho had said about Jin still lingers at the back of your mind. You are continuing your search through the server when you spot a list of files for each member. You click on Jin’s but all that comes up is a window demanding a password.  Another messenger window opens.
JK- I can’t give you access to that. I’m sorry.
(Y/N)- Why not?
JK- That’s Jin’s private file. Information is a two way street, talk to him and he’ll talk to you... Speaking of which let me on your server, you’ve looked through mine for hours.
An access authorization request comes up on your phone, you deny it.
(Y/N)- I need to clean it up first, get rid of a few personal things.
JK- PLEASE! I’ll be careful.
(Y/N)- Be patient or someone might tell Jin that you have a stash of pirated porn on the server.
JK- ...Take all the time you need...
You hear whispers outside of you door. In this world you are so fragile everyone thinks it best to  handle you with pair of gloves and speak in hushed tones. To be fair they are somewhat right, you didn’t know how to deal with the constant threats. You had almost put V in the same position your father was in two days before. He died because you were there, Namjoon’s words cut deeply then, but now they are even more painful.
Before learning of your existence they thought that a chunk of the fortune would make its way to Namjoon, maybe that would be for the best.  You finally emerge from the covers of the bed and open the door surprising both V and Jimin who are responsible for the whispering.
“Is he back yet?”
Jimin nods his head, “In his room on the other side of the living room.”.
V just points in that direction remaining silent. You can’t help but notice bruises coming to the surface of his skin. Wounds that he had received trying to keep you from harm.
Knocking on his door you are greeted with an, “Enter”.
Surprise showed in his eyes when he saw that it was you coming into the room.  “(Y/N)? Hope called me and told me what happened. Are you okay?”
“I was blindsided by EXO and your asking me if I’m okay?! I shouldn’t have to learn the truth from them Namjoon! You just showed them that you don’t trust me, that you have no faith in me. How do you think that makes your team look?”
“I told you last night I wanted to wait for that document. Would you have believed me if you hadn’t read it yourself? Your father went to such an extent the truth was far from rational.”
That left you with another question, “Then how did EXO know about this?”
“It was their founder who organized her accident.”
You wait for more, but he doesn’t continue. “After what happened today I feel like it would be best if I left, not to Busan, somewhere outside of Korea. Everyone here is walking on eggshells around me and V almost...” You start a new thought not wanting to continue. “I will be opening an account in your name and transferring some of my assets, you’ll never have to worry about money.”
“It was never about the money, we took you in because you were important to Park, important to our mission. And yes everyone is nervous around you because they feel like they have failed you. We weren’t able to protect your father and now we are struggling to keep our promise.”
“You are going to have to give me more than that if you want me to stay.  I still don’t understand why did he formed BTS.”
You are interrupted by a short knock on the door, Jin enters.
“That is my fault, I asked them not to say anything. I wasn’t ready to tell you but it appears I can’t put it off any longer.” Jin sighs in defeat. “But first let me check your shoulder. V said that you might have hit it?”
“It’s fine really, I just glanced the wall.” You are eager for answers, and don’t want him to delay any longer.
He looks at you skeptically, unbuttoning the first few buttons on your blouse to get a good look. “You’re bleeding through your bandage why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn’t notice,” You lie.
“Aishh you haven’t changed , you need to look after yourself more. There is a small tear nothing too bad. He brought bandages with him and changes it quickly before uttering another word. He sits down beside you but looks to the floor as he speaks.
“How much do you remember of your fathers work in politics?”
“Not much, just that he stepped down from his assembly seat when my mother passed.”
Jin takes a deep breath and starts off slowly.
“20 years ago my father, CEO Kim, was heavily invested in the stock market. He was reckless, throwing money at any stock that he believed to have “inside intel” on. He told his shareholders that he was investing in other companies that would benefit them. Instead of using the company funds to expand and update he continued to invest in the market. Profits crashed shareholders pulled out. The company that had been in my family for generations was about to go bankrupt.”
A pained expression on his face grows as the words continue to fall from his mouth.
“He reached out to the government asking for a bail out. Stating that a large number of the people still relied on the company for their medical equipment, and if they went under it would be devastating. The Assembly was actually considering it. My father thought that he would have Park’s vote easily after all they had been friends for a long time, but he was strongly against the idea. He rightfully believed that my father had been irresponsible and should sell the company.”
“My father refused explaining that he would rather watch his company go bankrupt then see it in the hands of another. He was shocked at your father’s “betrayal”. A few days before the vote your mother was in the a car accident that took her life.”
You could tell where this story was going but you didn’t want to believe it. To think a family friend, and Jin’s father, could sink so low.  Jin glances up at you sadly for a moment, before returning to his explanation.
“Park was in mourning, but he was certain that the motion would fail even without his vote so he abstained. The motion passed, but just barely.  With Park out, Kim only had to threaten a few delegates to sway the vote in his favour. There were a few restrictions placed on him. He was no longer able to access company profits and his share percentage would be reduced to 40, but those were limitations he could live with as he was still the majority shareholder.”
“The police had found new information that lead to the understanding that your mother’s accident was a planned attack, but with no evidence to show the responsible party, it was kept quiet. You were sent off within hours after the discovery. Park knew who the culprit was, but couldn’t prove it beyond reasonable doubt.”
“My father turned to other sources of income to help supplement his foolhardy investments. He founded the gang EXO which he supplies with products from his company. Often using them to intimidate lawmakers when necessary.”
You could feel your anger rising inside of you. He had killed your mother, and played a role in the death of your father. Yet Kim still continues to live his life in luxury.
“Five years ago while in school I discovered my father’s darker dealings. I had walked in on a meeting with him and several notoriously known gang members. I pretended not to be phased, only so I could further research his dealings with them. Each threat, every accident I came across was disturbing, but finding out what he had had to done to your family was the final straw.  I left my home and came to Park on my knees begging for forgiveness for my ignorance. Your father took me in and supported me ever since that day.”
“Jin...”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. Even though I no longer consider him to be my father I still feel partially responsible for his acts. Your life was torn apart because of him...”
“You are not accountable for your father‘s crimes Jin.”
Namjoon begins to explain further, “Park brought us together purely for revenge. Realizing that Kim was to powerful to take down alone. With all the money we could ever need we had no reason to push drugs like the the other gangs. Making our police record virtually non existent. That doesn’t make us any more innocent than the rest of them though. We focus on taking from others that are connected to Kim, but even that becomes problematic. With us working behind the scenes, Park worked to discredit him in public eye.”
There was nothing you want more than to see that man fall. Needing to take everything from him the way he had taken it from you. There is no way you are leaving now. “I’m in.”
“What?” RM asks in disbelief, he quickly rephrases. ”I’m not saying no, I just want to make sure you are certain of your decision.”
“You asked me before if I wanted to join, I can be a patron, banker I don’t care. There is nothing left for me to lose, but my chance at revenge. You are not taking this man down without me.”
“You would be willing to become more than a patron, to work alongside us?”
“Yes,” Your confirmation comes out unwavering.
Jin looks at you perplexed. You can tell he no longer recognizes the girl before him, how could he when you could barely comprehend your own actions.
JK comes bursting in the door looking completely bewildered stuttering random words... Fire... Busan... He grabs your arm to follow him to the living room. The news coverage is on, but also his own camera footage was pulled up on the laptop.  You watch the bookstore you called home go up in flames. “This can’t be an accident. How long ago did it start?”
“A few minutes ago, it caught quickly.”
You run to your room yelling, “JK I need memory space find me the largest empty hard drive you have.”  I grabbed the laptop and head back to the living room. JK calls out from the room next to Namjoon’s. Jin had a questioning look on his face, “What’s wro...”
“No time to explain.” You shout running past him.
JK caught on quickly having everything set up once I reached his room. You plug in accessing your server and begin the transfer. “Come on, come on.” A window popped up with an estimated completion time of 2 hours and 45 minutes.
“Let’s hope it’s fast enough,” JK notes.
You sit down placing your head in your hands. The other members join you, curious looks on their faces.
“With them destroying my place of work it is only a matter time before they appear at my home too. I’m downloading my server in case they damage my system.”
Namjoon places a finger on his lips in thought. “JK pull up the cameras I posted in the area.”
JK looks at him hesitantly for a moment before muttering, “You must have a death wish.” He pulls up another camera shot.
“Why the hell is my living room on the screen?!” You shout.
“This is the first time that we have ever access this camera, it was to be used only for emergencies.” Namjoon shot back. “If you want to be part of this group, you are going to have to deal with a lack of privacy from time to time.”
You sigh defeated leaning back in your chair and glancing at the camera shots. there was another in the hallway in front of my door, a third pointing to the building in flames, and a forth that said no signal, you guess that one must have been set up inside the store. You are beyond grief  you’re absolutely livid.
“Are these cameras recording?” You ask JK.
“Yeah, I’ll set up a notification if there is any movement in your apartment.”
You continue to stare a the flames engulfing the building, “There is one thing I am still confused about. If I was so well hidden how did the press get my picture and find out about me so quickly? How did they,” You point to the screen, “Find my workplace so quickly.”
V answers for you, “I’m looking into my connections, seeing if anyone is trying to exchange information about you on the dark web, but it could be as simple as one of your friends talking to the media.”
You are more concerned about the second option than the first. Your friends knew you as a private person. They knew that you wouldn’t want your life on display. Did one of them sell you out?
“2 hours and 40 minutes left on the transfer, I don’t think I can watch this anymore.”  You slowly leave you chair heading back to the living room. The other members follow, you hear Jimin whisper asking if you are really joining the team, a faint yes comes from Jin. Jimin seems pleased by the idea, you turn back to see his his squinty eyed smile.
Namjoon whispers something to Jin, who then excuses himself, as everyone sit on the couches surrounding a coffee table.
Suga is leaning back, looking as if he might fall asleep, V, JK and Jimin are arguing over something on his laptop. Hope sits beside you as he scrolls through his phone. Namjoon is across from you holding a small smile on his face. Jin returns with 8 bottles of beer. “You should be fine now (Y/N), the painkillers will be out of your system.” He informs you, passing a bottle over.
“Thanks Jin.”
He hands out the rest of the bottles.
“I know that this isn’t the ideal time for initiation...” Namjoon starts what seems like a speech but is quickly interrupted .
“Here he goes...” Suga mutters.
“He’s going to be all methodical and sappy,” groans Hope.
Jimin stifles his laughter. Namjoon glares at them.
“Just keep it short RM.” V asks.
Namjoon turns to you, you give him a pleading look in agreement with the others. “Fuck it then, Welcome home Fire.”
A chorus of welcome homes echoed around the room we all raised out bottles and toast the occasion.
The talk soon turned to logistics. “What role will she be taking?” Asks Jimin.
Namjoon looks to you in assessment, “You already have a background with computers, so it might be best if you stick with JK for now. At least until you heal.”
“Maybe you can teach him a thing or two about screenshots, or even art.” V cracks.
The beer is consumed quickly, the guys out pacing you easily. There’s a outcry for more, forcing Jin to find the soju. “Drink it slow, otherwise you’ll feel terrible tomorrow.” Jin expresses his concern as he pours you a drink.
“I don’t think that I could feel much worse tomorrow regardless.” The funeral coming to the forefront of your mind.
“You don’t have do this you know.” Jin suddenly blurts out.
You knew this was coming, “If you are referring to my membership, I don’t think your in any place to talk me out of it. I don’t want to be that naive child anymore Jin, you should know that better than anyone.”
“You’re too young to know what you want.”
“Yes because being two years older makes you so much more mature.”
“I may be only two years older but I have spent the last five in a world you can’t comprehend. I’m just trying to look out for you. We can watch over you even if you don’t become a member.”
JK approaches with an empty cup eyeing the bottle in Jin’s hand.
“Did you say the same thing to JK when he joined or is this for my benefit?” You remark pointing out the double standard in age.
“Okay fine, I’ll lay off... for now.” He claps a hand on JK’s shoulder changing his tone.  “Try not to pick on JK too much while your working with him. You don’t want to scare him off with that temper of yours.” Jin laughs
“Yes because he’s so innocent,” You mutter sarcastically  to low for Jin to hear.
“You’ll be working under me Fire, you shouldn’t make fun of your superior like that.” JK whispers to you as Jin pours more drinks.
“Is that a threat little boy, because I was told not to keep any secrets from my fellow members.” You eye him darkly.
“You wouldn’t dare...”
But you do...“Jin I was wondering, JK had this weird folder hidden on his server labeled F.A.P. material any idea what it might be?”
JK turns bright red as Jin fumes, “What do you have on your computer?”
You snicker quickly edging out of the conversation making you way over to Namjoon. As you stop beside him all you could hear across the room was, “You should see the amount RM has on his computer!”
You burst out laughing while he asks, “What are they talking about?”
“Oh, I accidentally came across JK’s porn folder while on his server.” It took a minute for it to sink in and figure out what JK was accusing him of.
“Oh...OH!... It’s not...” He stutters.
“I could care less, it’s just funny to watch the reaction of those who do.”
After a while the yelling becomes slurred apologies as the liquor takes hold.
Jimin and V have passed out on one of the couches together.
Hope somehow talks the rest of us to into playing a drinking game. For Namjoon and yourself it took a little convincing, but you aren’t sure how he was able to persuade Suga.
You had gone a couple rounds now, the truths becoming more interesting as you all continue.
Namjoon pulls a new prompt from the bowl. “Embarrassing secrets... Apparently I have a shocking amount of adult content on my computer.” Namjoon confesses. You all lift your glasses and take a drink.
It was you turn next. You try to think of something that none of them would have in common with you, really not wanting to have to take another drink. “Until recently I had a stuffed animal I slept with.” You glance at them hopefully. Matching grins appeared on both Suga’s and Hopes face as they look to Namjoon.
He looks back at them shot in hand, “It makes a good cushion...” He grumbles taking a shot with you.
Suga is up next. “Skip.”
You try to persuade him, “Wait, but this is such and easy one.”
“Skip,” He repeats taking his two penalty shots.
Hope clears his throat, and continues the game. Not commenting on Suga’s deflect.  “I used to take dance lessons.”
No one speaks up.
“Fuck Hope, you wanted to play knowing you would win didn’t you.” Suga complains as everyone takes the shot instead of Hope.
“Ugh, how does anyone win this game,” You groan, rubbing your hand over your face trying to stay awake.
Namjoon’s face drops as he reads the next slip. “Greatest fear...” He takes a deep breath as he thinks it over. “I’m terrified of failure. One misstep an it becomes a life or death every time.”
You all raise our glasses again.
“I think you’re just afraid of drinking alone.” Hope grumbles.
You hate this question, there was one fear that surpasses all others for you. “I am afraid of being alone...” everyone raises their glasses but you aren’t finished yet. “Alone with my own thoughts. On a bad day I’ll go out to the store or a cafe because at least there... in public I know I won’t act upon them.” Namjoon and Hope lower theirs, but Suga keeps his glass high. He continues to look you in the eye as he takes his shot with you. You felt Namjoon reach for your hand under the table, he squeezes it and keeps hold.
Suga doesn’t take long to come up with his own, “My tally.” Seeing your confusion he continues to explain. “When I became a sniper I was worried I would lose count of the lives I took. I keep a tally and add to it every time I am given an assignment. I have not counted it in years. I have gone from a fear of forgetting to a fear of knowing.”
The rest of you take your shots in silence. You don’t know what to say his truth, it leaves you troubled but also terrified.
You can tell that Hope is not eager to share. “Come on Hope this’ll be the last one.” You whisper encouragingly.
“I’m scared of falling asleep. Almost every night I dream that someone I care about dies in my arms, that it is my fault, that I failed them.” His mouth hangs open as if waiting for his words to continue but only silence follows.
You raise your glass, offering words in solidarity. “You’re not alone. If it’s not my mother, it’s my father, if it’s not him it’s my friends. So far I am two for three,” You chuckle darkly as you roll the glass between your fingers before taking the shot with him. You can tell why they like to play this game. It may have taken on a somber tone near the end , but you feel as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
Kneeling at the table and drinking excessively had finally taken its toll. You honestly don’t think you can get up so you just lay back on the rug. The carpet is incredibly soft, you felt as if you are melting into it.
“No one move me until it’s absolutely necessary.”
J-Hope crawls over and climbs on the couch behind you, “Same.”
“You guys are all light weights.” Suga lays down on the floor his head resting on a blanket supported by your ankles. Namjoon lays along his side of the table with his head pointed towards you.
“Thank you agreeing to take me on.”
“I hope you’ll still be thankful after your training,” He laughs.
“Too late to back out now?” you jokingly ask.
“Yeah I think so, you can’t go back on an initiation like that.” He gestures to everyone passed out, snores can be heard around the room.
You suppress a snicker.
“Goodnight Namjoon.” You whisper.
“Goodnight (Y/N),” He places a hand on your head as you fall asleep.

Chapter Three
December 7th
“You’ve made us late,” Harry growls as he knocks on this mansion’s front door.
Lorelai rolls her eyes and checks her watch. “We’re four minutes early.”
“If you didn’t take public transportation then we would have been ten minutes early. Just the way I like it.”
“Hey, I want to accompany you on this meeting even less than you want me to, okay? Stop complaining about every small inconvenience you have, put on your big boy pants, and get this meeting over with.”
Harry was meeting a very important client today. If Harry won the case then the company would score their biggest paycheck in years. Bertram thought this meeting was too important for Harry to attend alone, so he sent Lorelai along with him to be his official notetaker. Said that she’d be his assistant for the day, and Lorelai almost threw up at those words. Never would she ever want Harry to be her boss, and thank god he hadn’t been around when Bertram had said that.
An older man opens the door. His eyes were bloodshot and he reeked of booze and cigarette smoke. He was wearing a pair of long johns and a bathrobe with his initials on it. It was only a little past noon and this man was already in such bad shape.
“What do you two want?” The man snaps as he eyes both Harry and Lorelai.
“Mr. Webber, I’m Harry Styles and this is my associate Lorelai Sterling. We work at the law firm Clemens & Son. You hired me last weekend to represent you for your divorce case.” Harry sticks his hand out for the man to shake.
Mr. Webber’s eyes light up as he takes Harry’s hand in his and shakes it vigorously. “Well fucking finally. It’s about time I get a divorce from that bitch.”
Lorelai slightly cringes at the man’s vulgar language about his soon-to-be ex-wife, but nobody notices. He lets Harry pass him into the house before shaking Lorelai’s hand as well and letting her follow Harry. He shuts the front door with a quiet thud and leads them into his dining room.
“Please, take a seat. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” He nods at the two of them before heading upstairs. Lorelai hopes he was going to change his clothes and dump a bottle of cologne onto himself.
Lorelai does as told and takes a seat, Harry taking the one next to her. She opens her purse and takes out her notepad and three pens. She tests all of her pens out to make sure they’re working, which they are, and then writes down Mr. Webber’s name at the top of the sheet. Harry watches her the entire time.
“You sure you’re going to get everything written down?”
Lorelai sighs. “I always do.”
Mr. Webber comes down in record time, now wearing a pair of jeans and a white button down shirt. He did put on cologne, but Lorelai thought it made him smell worse than before. His hair was slightly dripping as if he had tossed his head underneath the sink faucet for a second to wash some grease out of his hair. He takes a seat across from Harry and Lorelai.
“Sorry for the wait,” Mr. Webber apologizes, but his voice sounds nothing like it. “You said your name was Styles right?”
“Yes, sir,” Harry nods as he folds his hands together on top of the table.
“You related to a Zachary Styles? He’s a lawyer too. He did some work for my company about a year ago.”
Lorelai watches as Harry’s hands grip onto each other so tight that a vein pops out on his wrist momentarily before taking a deep breath and calming down slightly. “He’s my father,” Harry replies.
“Really? Never mentioned he had a son. Talked about his daughter and grandchildren loads though,” Mr. Webber didn’t seem to notice Harry uncomfortably shifting in his seat, or maybe he did and he just didn’t care.
“We’re not that close,” Harry dismisses the topic, his gaze not wavering from Mr. Webber. “Now we came here to speak of your divorce, yeah?”
At the mention of his divorce, Mr. Webber went into this entire tirade about his terrible soon-to-be ex-wife and about how she had been a bitch the entire three years they had been married and had only used him for his money that lasted for a solid ten minutes. Lorelai ended up writing her grocery list down in this time. She stopped listening to him after the first two minutes of his speech.
“Did you sign a prenup?” Harry asks when Mr. Webber pauses to take a breath.
He glares at Harry. “Of course I bloody didn’t. I regret every day not doing so. Now this whore is going to suck me dry and take every penny that I have to my name.”
Lorelai grits her teeth to stop her from saying anything she shouldn’t to the man. She even sees that Harry was not pleased by Mr. Webber’s word choice by the way his eyebrows raised. He doesn’t let it affect his work though.
“I promise you, Mr. Webber, I will not let that happen to you. She’ll just maybe get a dime from your bank account.”
***
Harry charmed the man in the next hour and a half that their meeting continued. Mr. Webber was so pleased with Harry that he was basically ready to throw stacks of cash at him immediately after he officially hired Clemens & Son to represent him. He left Harry with parting words that made Lorelai want to throw up on his front porch.
“Never get married, you hear me boy? All women do is complain and beg for money. Their mouths should be used for things other than talking, eh?” Mr. Webber began to laugh and shut his front door before Harry even had a chance to reply. Lorelai didn’t even want to look at him to gauge his reaction.
Lorelai walks past the front gate, holding it open long enough for Harry to squeeze through. She wraps her jacket closer to her body to fight off the bone-chilling winds before heading off in the direction of the tube. “See you back at the office,” she ticks over her shoulder in Harry’s direction.
“You’re not seriously going to take the tube back to work when I could drive us both there, are you?” Lorelai can picture him rolling his eyes.
Lorelai stops in her tracks. She turns around slightly to spot Harry standing next to his parked navy blue Bentley. He stares at her expectantly, but also slightly shocked that she was even considering his offer. Maybe if the wind hadn’t been so cold that every time it nipped at her skin she was scared she was going to get frostbite, or maybe even if it didn’t look like it was about to start pouring rain, maybe then she would have kept walking without a reply. It was because she didn’t want to get sick and die, she told herself as she marched over to Harry and his overly expensive car.
“Not scared I’m gonna kidnap ya and murder you anymore?” Harry asks, an evergrowing smirk appearing on his lips.
Lorelai sighs as he opens the passenger side door open for her. “There are worse ways to pass on I guess.”
Lorelai settles into the car seat and immediately buckles herself in. Harry lets out a dramatic sigh after he enters his own side of the car and sees her checking to make sure her seatbelt is properly buckled.
“I’m not going to get us into an accident, Sterling.”
“I will never ever ever trust you with my life, Styles.”
Harry starts his car and drives away from Mr. Webber’s house. He turns the radio on and some classical song leaves the speakers. Lorelai can’t help but to laugh.
He glances over to her momentarily before focusing back on the road, his eyebrows frowning on the top of his head. “What are you laughing about?”
“I just didn’t peg you as the Mozart type,” Lorelai says through her giggles.
“And what did you peg me as?”
“Honestly? I thought you just sat in silence every time you drove anywhere. You’re absolutely boring like that.”
Harry scoffs. “I am not boring. And it’s Bach by the way. This is The Well Tempered Clavier. Classical music is supposed to help you focus and get in the correct working mindset.”
Harry stops at a red light and looks over to her just in time to see her roll her eyes. “You’re basically like a stuffy old man who thinks making his aid cry is the funniest thing about his day.”
Harry sits back in his seat, his eyes latching onto hers. “I’m not that terrible of a person.”
“Your job is literally helping to solidify the breaking up of a family.”
“Well I’m not the one who put a crack in it in the first place. And who the hell are you to speak? You help the man who helps solidify the breaking up of families.”
Lorelai's face hardens and she refuses to let her gaze falter. “I’m working here because it was the only job that would hire me. What does it say about you that you chose this path?”
“Who said it wasn’t my only option as well?”
The atmosphere in the car was so tense that you couldn’t even cut through the air with a knife. You would have needed a wrecking ball to break it. They stared at each other until a car behind Harry honked its horn to indicate that the light was green and probably had been for a while. In that time Lorelai noticed the way Harry’s breathing picked up and his face turned into a stone cold mask. He only broke eye contact when the man behind them started calling Harry names out of his window.
“Was it?” Lorelai finally breaks the silence after another few moments of it.
Harry only sighs in response, his body hunching over as soon as he let the breath out. All of a sudden he looked very tired to Lorelai. There were bags under his eyes that she hadn’t noticed before, and his body looked about ready to tip over and stay down for the rest of eternity. And then in the next second it all disappeared, the true Harry disappeared, and his mask slipped back on and he went back to the same way Lorelai’s always known him.
“What’s it matter to you anyways?”
“It doesn’t,” she replies a little too fast.
“Exactly.”
~
December 12th
Lorelai longed for a dog. Her seven other siblings, they all wanted children in their early twenties, but Lorelai was nearing her late twenties now and she is just feeling like she is ready enough to take care of her own puppy. The only problem was that her long work hours did not go along with the amount of time a puppy needs attention for, but still she could look at the shelter websites and dream what it would be like to be a dog mother.
Lorelai was smiling at a particularly cute pitbull puppy when Harry exited his office and headed towards her. He eyes her suspiciously over her desk, and even though she would have liked to have frowned at Harry, the puppy was just too cute to keep her from doing so.
“What are you doing?” Harry asks her with an eyebrow raised.
“Work,” Lorelai murmurs in response as she reads over the puppies description. His name was Rufus and he had just turned six weeks old.
“You never smile at the work you’re doing. A lot of frowning and aggravated huffs, yes, but never any smiling. What are you looking at?” Harry leans forward to take a sneaking look at her screen, but with a quick click of a button Lorelai’s screensaver pops up.
“What do you want, Styles?” Now that the picture was gone Lorelai’s frown finally appeared.
“Need you to fax something for me,” he announces as he holds a stack of papers in front of him. “Or actually, a lot of things for me.”
Lorelai rolls her eyes and leans further back into her chair. “I’m not your assistant, remember? You’ll have to get your own to do the work you don’t want to do.”
“It won’t take you that long.”
“If it won’t take me that long, then it won’t take you that long either. My schedule is just as busy as yours. I can’t be doing work that I’m not getting paid to do.”
“Come on, Sterling-”
“No,” Lorelai cuts him off.
“It’s just-”
“I said no, Harry.”
“I’ll return the favor.”
This catches Lorelai’s attention and keeps her from repeating the word she had been so adamant on.
“What type of favor?”
“Anything you want, workwise that is.”
Lorelai bites her bottom lip as she looks up to the ceiling in deep thought. She clicks her pen a few times before she finally nods in agreement. Lorelai stands up, takes the papers from him, and shuffles over to the fax machine a few feet away.
“Well? What is it that you want?” Harry asks, his voice now taking on more of concern that she had agreed so easily to his bribe.
“You’ll see.”
***
Twenty minutes before Clemens & Son closes for the night, Lorelai stands from her desk and heads down the hall to Harry’s office. Bertram left thirty minutes ago, so Lorelai knew for sure that he wouldn’t show up out of nowhere and disturb the conversation she and Harry were about to have.
Harry’s door was already open, but Lorelai knocks on it twice to grab his attention anyways. He glances up from his computer screen, his cell phone pressed against his ear, and he stares at Lorelai warily. He beckons her with two fingers to come in and to sit down at the chair across from his desk and to wait until he was finished with his phone call.
“Sorry, Uncle Xavier, but I’m just too busy with work these next few weeks. Won’t be able to see you until my mum’s Christmas party.” Harry speaks into the cell phone, although Lorelai could tell he was barely listening to the conversation by the way he was clicking the mouse to his computer screen a million times a minute, and even more so now because Lorelai was in the room.
Lorelai can barely make out the voice on the other side of Harry’s call, but she can hear the tone of it and the man on the other side sounds clearly upset. Harry doesn’t seem to care though.
“No, I can’t arrive a few days earlier. I’m way too busy with these case files. Yes, even divorces don’t take a break for the holidays. Listen, I’ll have to call you back, alright? Something's come up. Alright. Yup. Yeah. Okay, yeah. Talk to you soon. Goodbye.” Harry hangs up the phone even though Lorelai was sure the person on the other side was only in the middle of repeating goodbye back to Harry.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Lorelai apologizes as Harry places his cell phone neatly on his desk.
Harry shrugs. “I should be thanking you really. Those conversations usually take up more of my time, but your interruption gave me the perfect exit.” He clicks a few more things on his computer before he turns fully towards Lorelai to give her his full attention. “Now, I assume you want your favor done?”
“You assumed correct,” she announces before handing Harry a file over.
“What is this?” Harry asks as he eyes the file, but makes no move to open it.
“Reasons why you should give me a raise.”
Harry sighs and falls back into his chair. “You’re not due for one.”
“Actually, I’m overdue for it. Should’ve gotten one last winter, but because Bertram decided to hire you instead it was pushed back.”
“You faxing things for me and me giving you a raise do not fall in the same ballpark.”
“You said you owed me any type of favor as long as it was work wise. Well, you’re the head of the financials here, so you would be the person to go to for me to ask for one.”
Harry stares at her in complete silence for about thirty seconds, his green eyes turning harder as the time goes by. Finally he leans forward and opens the file. It listed all of the work Lorelai’s done over the last two years she’s been here, all of the overtime she put in even when she didn’t need to, all of her accomplishments here at Clemens & Son. Lorelai watches Harry as he looks at his file, his eyes glancing over everything. She blushes ever so slightly when she thinks she’s spotted an impressed look in his eyes, but she wills away her embarrassment as much as she can.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Harry finally announces. “I’ll have to take the file home and take a more extensive look. I can’t just give you a raise here and now. It’ll take time for it to process through, and I have to make sure I give you a proper one that’s in the companies budget, but as long as the things you’ve written in this file pan out, then I can probably get you a raise right after the New Year starts.”
Lorelai sits there shocked, unable to properly process Harry’s words. Honestly, she expected him to shun her away immediately, but his words were a promise that he would do what he could. That was enough for her. She stands up and straightens her skirt out, Harry rising just a few moments after her.
“Alright, well, thank you, Mr. Styles.”
Lorelai thinks that maybe his lips are trying to turn up into a smile at the way they wobble slightly, but she also thinks that it might just be a trick on her eyes.
“It’s no problem, Miss Sterling. I’ll let you know of my decision sometime next week.”
Lorelai nods once before exiting the room. As soon as she’s out of eyesight she does a small jig of happiness in the hallway but unbeknownst to her, Harry spotted her dance by a mirror placed in his office and shook his head in amusement. He watches her and she shuffles down the hall with a new pep in her step until she’s reached her desk and was once more out of sight.
Lorelai gathers her coat and grabs her card to clock out. Finally, for once, Lorelai had a pretty good day at her job.

massive liminal infodump
november knows basically nothing about her mom's family. she won't talk about it, determined to avoid or change the subect when it's mentioned. all november knows is that her mom left home when she was about 18 and hasn't spoken to her family since. the only information november has to go off is an old polaroid of what she can only assume is her mom's family, and an even older book. she found these items in the attic when she was about six. her mom wouldn't talk about the photo, and had no explanation for the book - probably an old halloween decoration or something, it's not in any real language. november gets the book to play with if she wants it.
november, now a 20 year old photography student, and her 14 year old brother noel, are on a train to the town of Limbo to finally meet and stay with their mom's family - their aunt, uncle, and cousins. she is determined to know about them and to find out what caused her mother to become estranged.
upon arriving in the small town, november learns that one of her cousins, julie, had gone missing at the beginning of the year. another girl named cassidy schaerer, daughter of the editor of the town's weekly newspaper, had also gone missing around the same time. the two girls were best friends, and julie's car had gone missing as well, so people just thought they ran away. her father thinks this is most likely, complaining that julie has always been rebellious. her sister, adelaide, doesn't think it's that simple - she keeps these thoughts to herself, however, because she needs to be the 'perfect daughter' and not disappoint her dad. cassidy's father thinks something is up as well, but he isn't so quiet about it.
over the year november learns from mr. schaerer, who becomes like a father figure, that people have gone missing before. it's simply covered up, he says, because the town does not want to seem unsafe, and they have enough problems as it is. the town is dying out - young people often move away, there aren't that many jobs around, and the future doesn't look promising for small town life here.
as the year goes on, november's grip on reality is also tested. while on the train, november had a nightmare - driving down some back road, a deer in the middle of the road, swerving to avoid hitting it, crashing - which becomes recurring, getting more frequent and more vivid as the year goes on. along with the nightmares, she begins hallucinating - mildly and rarely at first, but getting worse as time goes on. images of decay haunt her. she also feels a strange connection with her cousin julie, although she doesn't know why - maybe it's because some people said they're alike in some ways.
                                                    - - - - -
ok so november and noel are siblings, and they arrive in the town of limbo to stay with some family members theyve never met before - their aunt, uncle, and cousins. when they get there, they find out one of their cousins - julie - has gone missing, along with her best friend whos a girl named cassidy. cassidy is the daughter of the man who runs the town's weekly newspaper. people view him as sort of paranoid and determined to think the worst when CLEARLY the girls just ran away. he doesn't get along well with the mayor of the town, john brennan.
john brennan really wants the town to get big someday, have a mall and eventually expand and put the town on the map. he wants to feel important. he has a wife named mary and a six year old son named charlie.
november's super curious to a fault, so like. kinda really nosy. she NEEDS to know everything and WILL investigate. and she feels a weird attachment to her missing cousin so she becomes like... determined to figure out what happened. her cousin adelaide - the Perfect Daughter whos secretly gay and dating another girl named jane - confides that she also doesnt think julie ran away, but cant say so to her father who'd get mad at her for being a conspiracy theorist.
november also becomes close with mr. schaerer, the town's newspaper guy, who becomes like a father figure to november and comments about how shes got some stuff in common with julie, who had also been like a daughter to him because she was best friends with his daughter and because julie's dad is this strict conservative type and thought she was a disappointment so he wasn't all that nice to her.
the town's in trouble - a lot of older conservative types frightened by progress, a lot of industry and stuff that'd die out with modernization, crops aren't doing as well, young people moving away, etc.
there's a priest named father alonso brennan - he's the mayor's half brother - who seems kinda guilty, like he's hiding something.
november gets these recurring nightmares of a car crash, and sometimes hallucinates that things are old and decaying or hallucinates people looking deadish and stuff. when she tries to talk about this to most people, they think shes crazy, and since its 1983 and her aunt and uncle - mostly her uncle - are conservative types, theres a lot of stigma surrounding mental illness.
mary brennan kinda tries to bond with her, try to get her involved with the town and stuff, at the suggestion of november's aunt, hoping that'll distract her from being like this.
also november works at an antique and curiosity shop for antioch, whos this sort of eccentric weird guy who supposedly moved to town after retiring early because he had money so now he's chilling. she doesn't get paid because she's working off a debt - noel accidentally broke a skull while goofing around when they were just checking out the different stores, and november offered to work off the debt so noel wouldn't have to, since neither of them had money.
it turns out father brennan DID know something. he had seen john and mary brennan burying a body out in the woods on january first sometime between midnight and 3am - cassidy's body. they had told him they hit her in a car accident, because they'd been driving drunk, and were trying to cover it up because they were scared and still drunk and afraid it'd hurt their lives and careers and stuff since john brennan's the mayor. alonso kept the secret because he was always close with his brother, and didnt want to ruin his life, but the guilt is eating him alive because he's generally an honest person but his honesty and his loyalty are in conflict. sometime around october he arranges to meet up with mr schaerer and tell him the truth about his daughter.
the next day, schaerer is found dead in the woods. the local police say it was a suicide. november doesn't believe this. she confronts the priest, knowing he was one of the last people to talk to her, thinking maybe he found something out somehow - priests hear a lot in confession after all. he tells her about knowing cassidy was buried in the woods, and how she was killed in a drunk driving accident, near where schaerer died - he also genuinely thinks it was a suicide, out of grief for his daughter. he won't mention who did it, using the confession thing as an excuse, his values are still in conflict.
november sneaks out in the middle of the night to go to that place in the woods and search for her body, see how much of this is true. after digging, she finds remains that are decayed WAY past what they should be. there's also nothing to indicate a car accident, the skeleton isn't broken as far as she can see, and there's a weird rusted ritualistic dagger in the grave, and some weird symbols that look kinda familiar but she can't place them at the moment (hint its the book from the attic)
shes not sure if shes hallucinating or not, and she doesnt know who to trust at this point. she comes back to the grave later that day with someone (i havent 100% decided who yet) but they like. don't find anything, like the grave never existed. this doesn't make november look any more mentally stable.
as new years eve approaches, the moon family - including november - are invited to the brennans' new years party. mary offers november an old dress to borrow since she doesn't really have any, and her cousins dont have the same size as her, the dress doesn't fit mary brennan anymore anyway, she owned it when she was younger, wore it on her wedding years ago. at some point during the party, after eating or drinking something which was handed to her, november doesn't feel so great. she passes out.
she wakes up, hands tied behind her back to like. a pillar or tree trunk or something. there are six others also tied up the same way, in a circle. to her horror, she realizes noel is one of them. next to each of them stands someone from town - 7 people in total, including john brennan and her own uncle. mary brennan stands beside her. they're doing some sort of ritual. november thinks this must be another hallucination or nightmare. it has to be, right? there's no way this is happening. she's forced to watch as one by one the other people are sacrificed - including noel. this can't be happening. this can't be real. she can't do anything to save noel.
november was saved for last as a special offering. mary brennan tells her that she is a Special sacrifice, that she believes Death has grown fond of her, so mary is offering this girl as a special sacrifice in an attempt to earn his favor in apology for having lost the book, which her ancestor stole a long time ago. she's the only one in the cult who has actually seen and been in communication with Death, and is also the only one to know this year has been repeating. she's hoping for the loop to end, and the town and everyone in it to be allowed to exist forever immortally.
she finishes the ritual, calling forth Death to claim this sacrifice. november can't see properly, between tears and it being dark outside and - this feeling like she's slipping out of reality, dying? falling asleep? about to hallucinate again? or emerge from the hallucination? she isn't sure and it terrifies her. the figure approaching out of the woods looks somewhat familiar, but different. antioch, from the curiosity shop. his hair's down though, and something about him isnt..... right. the vibe in the area has changed dramatically, feelings of dread that are hard to describe. she calls out to him for help anyway, but receives no response. he ignores her, approaching mary brennan. says something to mary brennan about not being forgiven, better luck next year, and mary brennan begins throwing up blood and slumps to the ground.  he - whatever sort of entity he is - moves closer to november. says something to her. she feels a sharp pain in her chest. he's carving something with his nail, which is like a claw. he's also telling her to give in and let go already, that she should have done so long ago, shes far too stubborn and foolish, shes still resisting whatever this weird sensation of slipping away is. she vaguely notices, between the pain and the weird feeling, that her surroundings and the people in the area seem to be decaying. this has to be a hallucination. it has to. she lets go, thinks shes closing her eyes........
but is actually opening them. weak sunlight filters through a smashed window through the trees overhead. a dream. it wasn't real. she looks around. it turns out that what was real was the car crash, and all that had been some sort of coma dream. she begins to get up, to become aware of her surroundings, her injuries,   noel.
she looks over and he's there, he's worse than her injury wise. he isn't breathing. she tries to wake him. he won't wake up. he's gone. it's too late. she feels horrible. this is her fault. if she hadn't been so curious. she digs through her bag, looking for her phone. her stupid book from the attic is there. she feels stupid. her curiosity about some stupid halloween prop and about her mom's past, which was probably mundane and some sort of argument, got her brother killed. she finds her phone at the bottom of the bag. a little cracked but it turns on. no signal though. she starts walking toward the road and follows it, searching for a signal. she has to call her mom. she has to let her know what happened, to confess that it's her fault.
as she's walking, she realizes her chest stings worse than her other wounds. she looks under her shirt at it. the sigil thing from her nightmare. it can't be. it has to be some sort of coincidence. it doesn't look like a normal wound, somewhere between a scar and a tattoo, turning black, but also bleeding a bit still, she brushes this off as being not all there and being shaken up. she just found out her brother died, of course she's not going to be all that mentally stable. she keeps walking. she gets a signal, weak. she calls her mom. keeps trying. finally gets an answer.
she tells her mom everything - they'd set out to go on a road trip and find out about their mom's family. it was her fault noel died, if she refused to take him. she swerved to hit a deer. her fault. her mom blamed herself, for not telling them about her past and for being so dodgy about it. november comes to the outskirts of an overgrown ghost town as she's walking to get a better signal. completely abandoned, decaying, familiar. she fears what her mom's going to tell her. that her sister overheard her father's plans to sacrifice her, as a part of a cult thing, and she promised her sister she'd leave and never look back, so she did, late 1982. something in november's mind clicks. it's 2015. her mother's name is julie.

Ray’s Miscellaneous Rec List
Several of these are unique, and a lot of my favorites are on here because of that. Assume all fics are rated explicit unless stated otherwise. WIPs are marked, but few and far between. Updates regularly.

Word count: 23,817
Summary:  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Matthew 19:6)
Sam gets married, Dean gets a wake up call. Easy top 3.
UPDATE: Pod fic version. It’s so good. (x).

Word count: 148087
Summary: When Sam gets into Stanford, Dean needs a bigger paycheck than Bobby’s garage can give him. Luckily, he knows a guy.

Edit 2: Podfic version: x
Title: The Breath of All Things by KismetJeska
Rating: T
Word count: 65,404
Summary: Dean Winchester was twenty-six years old when a car accident killed his father and left him paralyzed from the waist down. A year and a half later, Dean is in a wheelchair and lives in a care home in Kansas, where he spends his days waiting to die. It’s only when Castiel Novak starts volunteering at the care home that Dean starts to wonder if a changed life always equals a ruined one.
Easily number three in my favorites.
Title: Drop Anchor by almaasi
Word count: 42,124
Summary: AU. A sailor and an enemy pirate are marooned on an island together, and while awaiting rescue they accidentally achieve domestic bliss.
Or:
Dean Winchester is lieutenant of the Royal Trading Ship Echelon. On a pleasantly sunny but particularly catastrophic day, he is marooned on an island somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with only one man for company. That man is Castiel, captain of the black-sailed Leviathan: a pirate, no less. Given the circumstances under which they are stranded, rescue seems unlikely, and it could be aeons before a ship even comes by. The two of them may as well make the most of their own private island, personal differences be damned.
This is lovely.
Title: In the Weeds by Nanoochka
Word count: 40,265
Summary:
“Dean knew, from the minute he laid eyes on Chef Castiel MacCarthy, the day would come that he would have to kidnap the man and dump the body in the darkest, dirtiest crack den in Ireland. Given that this was Dublin city, it wouldn’t be hard to find.”
Title: make you whole by casfallsinlove
Word count: 4,531
Summary: In which there is a funeral, mixed-up feelings, quiet motel rooms, and a long journey home.
Title: 300 Things by cautionzombies
Word count: ~76,500
Summary: Dean’s life at twenty-four makes him feel like he’s forty–he works two jobs to help pay bills for his house and put his genius little brother through private school, and has spent six years (on and off, let’s be honest) working on his mechanical engineering degree at KU. With so much of his life devoted to his family, Dean has little time in his schedule for class and no time for social interaction. Then, while getting his classes together for the fall, he finds himself in a do-or-die situation: He must take his last literature class now, his spring already filled with those left for his major…except that none of the English classes will fit his schedule. This is how Dean grovels and begs Dr. Castiel Milton to make a special arrangement for him, and Dr. Milton does.
Easy top 5. Ashton’s art is what got me to read this one in the first place, and I didn’t notice it linked anywhere in the fic, so I’m sticking one here quickly.  [x]
Update: Tenoko1 did an audio fic and I am completely enamored with it. [x]
Title: Significant by holyhael
Word count: 4,547
Summary: Dean Smith’s and Castiel’s unconventional morning after.
This is? Amazing?
Title: There’s No Going Back by Catchclaw
Word count: 2983
Summary: Some of the things you find on vacation are hard to bring home.
Dean Smith/ Endverse!Cas is quickly becoming my favorite thing ever.
Title: put your hands on my waist by mcpadalackles
Word count: 2,182
Summary: “Dean is sitting at the window seat in their dark bedroom, the one that opens onto the fire escape. He must be cold. He’s wearing nothing but boxers, miles and miles of lovely bare skin exposed to the cool breeze drifting in. If he is, he doesn’t seem to care.”
Short but sweet. One of my top 10.
Title: Bicker by followyourenergy
Word count: 7947
Summary: Sam Winchester is nervous.  He’s taking his girlfriend of eight months, Jess, to meet his brother, Dean, and his brother’s best friend and roommate, Castiel.  Sam loves his brother and loves Cas, but it seems like all the longtime friends do is bicker and he hates it.   Sure enough, from the moment they arrive Dean and Cas are at it.  Sam thinks he knows what’s best for the two of them, but Sam ends up learning a few things about love and relationships that he never expected.
[NEW] Title: Smells Like Queer Spirit by ChasingRabbits
Word count: 8,364
Summary: It's been ten years since Sam Winchester has seen his brother. However, just as he's come to terms with the likelihood that he will never see Dean again, fate (and the internet) intervene and Sam is finally able to track him down.
What he finds throws him for a monstrous, brain-scrambling loop.
A series with a lot of variety. Not every piece is my favorite, but this one and the last two are great.
[NEW] Title: Mr. & Mr. Smith by amarillogrande
Word count: 26,550
Summary: Dean and Castiel Winchester are a normal married couple, living a normal life in a normal suburb, working normal jobs—both as secret deadly assassins. When they find each other as targets, their quest to kill each other leads them to learn a lot more about each other than they ever did in five (or six) years of marriage.
Canonverse and (mostly) canon divergent:
[NEW] Title: A Little Company by VioletHaze
Word count: 48,585
Summary: After Cas became human, he and Dean finally stopped dancing around what existed between them. The vulnerability of the newly-fallen angel scared the hell out of Dean, scared him enough to decide that he was ready to stop pretending and make some serious changes.
Now, five years later, they'd retired from hunting to live a "normal" life in Sioux Falls complete with a house and a brand-new adopted baby daughter.  Against all odds, Dean had found that the civilian life he'd always scoffed at nearly overwhelmed him with joy.
But Dean knew better than to bask in it; the world was a dangerous place and a happiness like that depended on him safeguarding his little piece of it.
[NEW] Title: Hunting for Faith by  perunamuusa and riseofthefallenone
Word count: 270,952
Summary: It starts a few days earlier.
Castiel first notices it in the middle of the night when the dreams of fire and screams have kept him awake. He’s kneeling before the altar, praying, when the glass in the windows start to shake, the very air vibrating around him. Castiel is on his feet and reaching for the gun tucked into the back of his pants as the shutters over the windows start to rattle.
Title: Bring up the Deep by beenghosting
Word count: 22,679
Summary: They went back and forth on whether or not to make the drive until Sam found an article in the town’s local paper dated a week earlier about a lobster fisherman who swore a monster sank his boat.
Case fic!
Title: The Five People You Meet in Heaven by amarillogrande
Word count: 22,237
Summary: Heaven is white.
Well. Isn’t that fucking stereotypical
Dean isn’t really sure how he got here. Or even why he’s here. And hell, for all the times the Winchesters have died, he thinks he ought to know the drill by now. But what he doesn’t know is when most folks go, they find something different.
There’s a system God put in place. That when you’re gone (for good) there’s a couple things you gotta do first.

Yet Castiel hides dangerous secrets, and Dean soon learns they have more to worry about than just Yellow Eyes and Sam’s growing demonic abilities. War is coming. Canon divergent after 2.10.

Losing a friend of ours
This is a Y/N and Ponyboy Curtis imagine. Warning down below.
This is about Ponyboy and Y/N living in New York City since 1993. Now it’s 2001. Ponyboy met a guy name Wallace at work during their time in New York City in 1993. Both of them became friends with Wallace. Eight years later, he gets a job at the World Trade Center during September 2001. There’s more to find out as you read the imagine. *mentions of 9/11*
Ponyboy’s P.O.V
I stack my pile of papers that my boss assign me  and bring them to him, all sign and return. The air condition at the office was running even though it was a cool September morning. I got up and started heading to my boss’s office. As I made my way over there, suddenly we heard a loud boom coming from outside. All of us looked at the window, wondering and confused what and who caused the loud boom outside. It sounded like a very bad crash or a earthquake or something.
I opened my mouth in shocked as me and my co-workers saw a view of the twin towers which were the highest buildings in New York, and famous throughout the world. There was smoke coming from the north tower as we were all shocked just by looking at it.
‘’Oh my God.’’ One woman said behind me. ‘’Someone turn on the TV!!’’ A man yelled. With shaking fingers, I grabbed the remote that was by a box of tissues  and turned on the TV.
I felt like my heart jumped out of my chest as we all watched the news on how a plane crashed into one of the twin towers and saw the live national coverage of the fire.
Just as I was about to head back to my office to call my wife Y/N ,I saw my boss with his hand over his mouth as he watched the live news on the TV.
‘’Mr. Leon, I’m going to call my wife Y/N, to see if she’s okay.’’ I say to him. I could even hear my heart pound in my ears. Were we okay? Was it a accident? How and why did it happen?
‘’Of course Curtis, you go right ahead. I’m going to call my wife and my brother to check on them. This is really awful on what’s happening. I’ll just let everyone go home early for today.’’ Mr. Leon said. I nodded at him and handed him the papers that he asked for.
I went back to my office and picked up the phone, dialing Y/N’s number. She was at home, taking care of our daughter.
‘’Hello?’’ I heard Y/N’s voice over the phone. ‘’Are you okay? Did you see what just happen?’’ I said, running my fingers through my hair.
‘’Yeah! I just saw it on TV!!. I was just about to call you.’’ Y/N said. She sounded worried. So was I. I didn’t blame her.
‘’Stay safe Y/N and I’ll be home early.’’ I said to her. ‘’I will Ponyboy. You too. I love you.’’ Y/N said. ‘’I love you too.’’ I told her and we both hung up.
I begin dialing my friend’s Wallace number. I almost forgot that he worked in the World Trade Center. He used to work with me in the same office that I work at now just a few weeks ago, until he quit and started working at the World Trade Center. I missed him working with me. I hope he was okay.
I dial Wallace’s number and waited for a response from him....
Nothing came from him...
My heart begin to beat fast again as I dialed his number again. No matter how many times I called him, he didn’t pick up.
Was my best friend okay? Did he left early? Was he one of those people who was in the tower that was fill with smoke coming from there?
As those thoughts filled inside my head, suddenly my phone started to ring. I quickly picked up, thinking it was Wallace telling me he was okay and safe from the tower.
‘’Hey Ponyboy, you doing okay? Are you and your family safe?’’ My brother Sodapop asked me. ‘’Y-Yeah Soda, I’m doing okay. I’m safe. It’s crazy what’s happening here.’’ I shook my head, thinking about the innocent people that were up there and wondering if Wallace was safe or not.
‘’Okay kid brother, I’ll pray for you , Y/N and my little niece to be safe.’’ Soda said. I thanked him and I hung up.
My phone began to ring again, and this time it was Darry. He asked me the same questions that Sodapop asked me. His voice seem worried just like Soda’s and Y/N’s. I told him I was doing okay and that I was safe. My heart pounded faster every time I thought about Wallace. I was so worried about him.
Me and Darry talked for a few minutes over the phone and we both hung up. I still haven’t received a call back from Wallace and this was starting to worry me.
As I sat in my seat, tapping my fingers on my cell phone, looking nervous, I suddenly heard another loud boom which scared the daylights out of me.
‘’This is not a accident! This is not a accident! Oh my God..’’ I heard the TV reporter say as I made my way to the window again, joining my co-workers who were shocked as I was.
‘’The plane just hit another tower’’ I heard someone say as I watched fire and smoke coming from the south tower.
‘’I saw that plane hitting the south tower just now with my very own eyes.’’ One of my co-workers name Jane say as she looked shocked.
Our boss let us go home early for the day. All of us were shocked and scared, knowing that we heard the boom and saw the smoke coming from the towers.
Since the trains were closed and none of us couldn’t go near where the WTC took place. I took the bus instead.
As I got on the bus,the bus was full so I sat next to a random man who had a sad expression on his face as he looked down.
I looked around as the bus roam and I saw people who were crying, being heartbroken, and crying whenever their loved ones from the twin towers didn’t pick up the phone. It reminded me whenever I tried to call Wallace. Other people were talking about it and others just stayed silent and were shocked.
I tried to hold the tears back as I rode home.
I can’t believe it... This isn’t real... Just a few minutes or hours ago.. I was just in my office, stacking my papers and ready to deliver them to my boss... This must be a dream... I must still be sleeping in my office desk... Please oh lord don’t tell me this is really happening...
I called Y/N once again and told her I was heading home. I also told her that Wallace wouldn’t answer my phone. Y/N freaked out and told me she was going to call him on her cell phone.
I hung up on Y/N as soon as I got off the bus. I started walking across the street,  to the apartment where me and Y/N lived.
Whenever I arrived at our apartment, I greeted Y/N and our daughter. Y/N looked worried as I was and told me that she called Wallace a bunch of times but he never picked up.
We both grabbed our coats and decided to head to Wallace’s apartment. He didn’t live that far away from us. He lived 15 minutes away from us.
I dialed Wallace's number once again while Y/N was changing our daughter in the bedroom.
Maybe Wallace was already home... Maybe he didn’t go to work today... Or maybe he was still sleeping in his apartment or he must have lost his cell phone...
We headed outside and begin walking to Wallace's apartment. During the walk, I couldn’t stop thinking about what just happened this morning at work.... Were we under attack? I was scared for my life, my family’s life and including everyone’s life..
We arrived at Wallace's apartment. We knocked on the door several times, but no one answered.  Again I called Wallace on my cell phone once again and so did Y/N. But he didn’t answer.
‘’What if he didn’t make it?’’ Y/N said, her eyes were watery as she looked at me. She started crying and I hugged her as I felt like I was about to cry.
‘’No.. No.. No... He’s alive... I just know it... He’s probably in the hospital...’’ I said, rubbing her back.
I hope Wallace was alive... I couldn’t lose him... I can’t lose my best friend who felt like a brother to me...
Later that evening, we spend the whole day watching the live news on the twin towers. I also found out that another plane had crashed in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
My heart broke into a million of pieces when I heard that the North and South tower had collapsed. It was a living nightmare and I felt like the world was going to end.
Later on that night, I decided to go where the World Trade Center took place and visit some hospitals  to see if Wallace was there. He must have stayed in the hospital... Maybe that’s why he couldn’t answer his phone.
Y/N stayed home with our daughter and she was still shocked and really sad about what happened this morning.
I took a taxi to get to where the World Trade Center took place. The taxi driver told me that he couldn’t believe what happened today. I agreed with him and throughout the ride, we were talking about what happened and everything that was on the news.
We arrived in Manhattan a few minutes later. I thank the taxi driver and paid him before I got out of the car. He nodded and wished me good luck.
I took out my wallet from my pocket as I opened it. I had a picture of me and Wallace in my wallet. I begin asking police officers, workers and even people who worked in the WTC  if they seen Wallace as I showed them the picture.
Sadly, they said no.
After I asked more people if they seen Wallace, which all of them said no, I saw where the WTC once stood... now being destroyed and on the ground...
I sadly stood there with people around me as we watched police officers and workers trying to find people buried in the ground.
It broke my heart and sadden me as I thought about everything that happen this morning. Innocent people lost their lives... They didn’t deserve to die or their lives taken away...
20 minutes or so, I begin walking on a sidewalk under a street light with my hands in my pocket and head down, looking sad as I thought about what happen today and wondering if Wallace was okay or not.
I decided to check one last place, my only hope to see if Wallace was alive or not. The hospital...
I begin to check every hospital where they had 9/11 survivors. My heart started pounding like this morning every time they said that Wallace wasn’t here.
Everytime I check in hospital after hospital, sadly there was no such luck. Wallace wasn’t there...
I started crying and I realized all this time, Wallace was dead. My best friend was gone forever and I didn’t get a chance to tell him goodbye or how much he meant to me as a brother more than a friend. It broke my heart even more, knowing that was true.
I decided to take the bus ride home since I couldn’t ride the taxi home due to how I was feeling.
I got on the bus and there was barely anyone riding the bus. I saw a man, a women with grocery bags, a young women with a kid and a old man who was reading the newspaper.
I sat down in a empty seat, looking out the window as the bus begin to roam away from the street.
I begin to think about Wallace. He was a great friend anyone could have. He was the kind of person who you would love to have around whenever you were feeling upset or mad. He was the kind of person who was there for you. He was a kind, most funniest person and I was proud to call him - my best friend and a brother from an another mother. So did Y/N. I was going to miss him so much now that he’s gone..
As I thought about the memories that me and Wallace had, I started crying again and noticed that I couldn’t hold the tears any longer.
A guy from behind me whom I didn’t noticed, saw me crying and lightly tapped me on the shoulder.
‘’Sir, did you lose a loved one in the twin towers?’’ He asked. For some reason, he reminded me of  Mr. Symes - my English teacher from high school.
I nodded at him as he handed me a tissue to wipe my tears off.
‘’Today is the worst day I had..’’ I told the guy, wiping my tears with the tissue he gave me.
It was the worst day I had in my life besides my parents dying. Since this morning, when the planes crashed in the twin towers, I tried to hold back my tears but I couldn’t hold them anymore.
I was heartbroken, shocked, and sad of what happened today.. especially of my best friend Wallace who died in the WTC.
My best friend is dead... I can’t believe he’s gone... I will never hear his jokes or even hear his voice again... I will never see him ever again.. I’m going to miss him so much...
I decide to write this imagine so people would understand the pain felt by those who lost the ones they loved after the fall of WTC, or how it felt like to lose a loved one during the 9/11 attacks. I don’t know if it’s a good one to write this on Tumblr. If this makes you uncomfortable or if it triggers you, please message me instead of giving me hate for this. I don’t mean to trigger or offend anyone if this does trigger or offend anyone. I’m sorry if I do hurt, trigger or offend anyone. I only wrote this so people would understand the pain of those who lost a loved one in the WTC. I hope you like this imagine and please message me if you have any questions .
