I don't have any idea where this would lead her, I just always thought it was interesting just how commonly affairs come up in Arthurian myth.

Karna: I don't have any real headcanons for him...Jinako taught him to play very simple video games. He likes Candy Crush.

Da Vinci: Well she's obviously transfemme. But like, it's not even a headcanon so much, she was SO probably fucking half of Florence way back when.

Tristan: Not sure about headcanons! But he's definitely somehow the sluttiest of the KOTR Idiot Trio.

David: Local man cries in his room for an hour after Temple. Local man also possibly has a physical fight with Ozy on religious grounds at some point too. I saw him fucking roast Ozy in a fic once and it was glorious.

Mordred: He's 100% transmasc and only uses she/her still because he doesn't quite get he can just....not use those anymore. He and Caenis bond over similar situations. He has a little scar on his face.

Ushiwakamaru: Not entirely ABOUT her, but for my Fujimaru, she told Ushiwaka her late little brother used to love her and sing that rhyme, and that bit from the anime def happened.

Jeanne: I don't really have many?

Jalter: She and my Fujimaru fucked at least once, after Shinjuku. She has burn scars all over her body.

Nursery Rhyme: The entirety of Chaldea unanimously loves her, and she's a comfort to the human staff sometimes, who she visits and sits with to help them get some mental relief sometimes.

Frankenstein: One of the less shy staff members is teaching her and anyone who wants to learn ASL! Yay, ease of communication!

Mandricardo: Man's a Saracen he's darker than the game makes him look. You wouldn't know it to look at him but he can hold his liquor extremely well and can drink most people under the table.

I don’t know whose who, but Shadowpeach but it’s like the ending of Nimona and calming down a “huge monster.” Also, the fact JTTW Macky is a cannibal. Insane. Supposedly also, six ears can’t reach enlightenment hmm. Unlike manga adaptations to anime, I tend to think of Lmk as less reliant on “the source material” so I don’t get why some people get so huffy about “the book” it’s more like a regular Lego show with a Jttw paint coat over it. Like any other series that has thousands of different adaptations on it.

think of it like Arthurian legends (i hope you understand Arthurian legends bc this is the best example i can think of): the story is old and has many variations depending on the time period and regions, but the core of the story, the bare bones, typically stay the same.

Arthur is King of Camelot, he is married to Guinevere, Guinevere has some kind of affair with Lancelot, Merlin is a powerful wizard and advisor of some sort to Arthur, Arthur is killed by Mordred at the battle of Camlaan and is said to return when “Albion” needs him most

sometimes the Arthurian adaptations try to uphold the legends or the idea/fantasy of the legends (depending on which concept it focused on more can show where an adaptation falls flat) and sometimes adaptations are created to breakdown the expected narrative the audience already knows about the legends. it can even be a callback to older themes or characteristics that modern adaptations have forgotten or ignored—the list goes on.

with the jttw story and story adaptations the main aspect of it or the core is “an allegorical journey of human life” and “growth and change and redemption is possible even for the most bloodthirsty or violent”

lmk sort of fits into this happy medium of “we know this story has been told so many times and adapted in so many ways. we don’t mean to adapt it as it is, but rather as a reference for a future where the jttw was real and is a part of history as much as legend.” but they also play on the idea that not everything told/written in the legend is completely accurate since it was documented by observers or witnesses

to be honest, i think the reason why some fans look back at the source material is because lmk still leaves us with wholes of the complete story. JTTW is the complete story and our primary point of reference. it is an important piece of the puzzle, but it’s not everything. like you said, lmk isn’t an honest adaptation nor does it try to be, which is fine and works for its story honestly

however, i still don’t think that means we should throw the whole jttw to the side and just focus on the show. so many themes and plot lines are heavily influenced by the jttw story and themes. there’s also the cultural impact and influence that you can get from reading or just see how much jttw is tied to a lot of Chinese and Asian culture and storytelling. because it’s not just about the legend itself but what the legend means for a lot of Asian cultures. how it’s themes and plot lines touch that audience and how it influences lmk’s own narrative

#there’s also the topic of examining the jttw legend from a historical aspect #but tbh lmk isn’t big on the historical thing I don’t think #maybe for architecture and costumes but idk about anything else #that being said #if you read jttw through a contemporary lens that you are missing out on so much of the story #especially Tripitaka #most definitely Tripitaka #jttw is not like our modern historical fiction books #It is a historical contemporary legend #make sense?#the was a historical intended audience for this legend #find that and a lot of concept start to click together #and honestly to know the bones of lmk you much know it’s past (jttw) for while the present and future will never fully #mimic the past they share similar patterns even when at its most subtle #but that’s my opinion #lmk #asks

HOOOUGH, I haven't actually checked Heaven's Feel out yet mostly because I know how rough that one is and I know what happens to my favorites (cough Gil and Cu cough) and I gotta prepare for that. But the Camelot movies are GREAT - noticeably a bit different from the actual game chapter (unlike Babylonia), but still super fun, Lancelot vs Agravain was INSANE. Bedivere tho, man....man...........

As for Solomon, haha, I can't watch that one, playing the story once was enough I'm not masochistic enough to do that again lmao. But I've heard it's FANTASTIC.

I....really do want to watch Prisma Illya tbh, if only because Kid Gil, I have priorities! But I read enough of the manga to know it's actually really good ignoring the, uh, awkward bits. And I've watched an LP of Extra, but not the anime yet, if just because I prefer the female protagonist XD I should though, because it's got a couple of my favorite Servants in it and more content of your favs is always good.

BUT YEAH FATE HURTS A LOT, A LOT OF THE TIME, but the highs are enough to make the pain worth it. I'd ask who your favorite characters are but I'm also pretty sure I know at least one, who we share XD Besides His Goldiness, though, is there anyone else you like?

AHAHA yeah, it's rough, it's literally just pain. Beautifully animated pain, though! Watching all three in a row back to back was a MISTAKE, do not do that -- be kind to yourself; take breaks XD

I really enjoyed the Camelot movies! Oh that's good to know, I knew that the Babylonia chapter was pretty in line with the game, but didn't know anything about this one. What are the main differences?

Yeah, Prisma Illya isn't really my thing in terms of the series itself (I've never been into the magical girl genre) so the movies initially flew under my radar, but while I was looking around to see what Fate stuff I missed, I noticed they look like they're in a completely different style from the Prisma Illya series itself? Like more in line with UBW, Zero, etc. I've never checked out the manga so barely know anything about the plot, but I'm expecting, you know, hurt. As usual :D

I liked the Extra anime! It's very different in style from pretty much everything else I've watched in the franchise. I think the best way I could describe it is the narration/view point is disjointed the way gothic literature is, instead of being like a straightforward adventure or an epic, which I think a lot of people found jarring and ended up not really vibing with it. I thought the presentation really fit well with the content, though, it just took a minute to get used to it.

Haha, yup, I do love Gil! My top fave is Kojiro, though, who sadly doesn't feature nearly as much as like. anyone else T____T I take whatever crumbs I can get, even a measly 1.3 second appearance just to fucking die Which is one of the reasons I really liked the cooking spin off! He was happy! He got to eat sandwiches! XD (Carnival Phantasm was also really good for getting some cute, non-heartbreaking content for him <3)

I also really like Cu, Karna, Alexander, Vlad, and Mordred. For non-Servants, my faves are Waver and Shishigou.

Alright, I finished Fate/Apocrypha.

The second season was a lot stronger than the first (sadly Mordred didn’t show up as much then smh). I loved majority of the cast, Hell it even made me feel something for Gilles (Fate/Zero Caster) so ye.

Again, only shitty part was Seig (he was fine up until like ep 23 when he being bullshit op) and his stupid ass romance with Jeanne. Jeanne when she wasn’t talking about Seig was a really good character and god I hate self interest to romance your ‘waifu’

But yea awesome cast and premise that got weighed down with stupid self interest and romance. But yea it’s at least worth a watch for people who’ve watched other fates (esp if you’ve watched fate/zero).

It’s not as bad as I say Im just really pissed about seig and his stupid ass fling with jeanne cause that’s what the last two eps focused on. There’s a lot of phenomenal stuff in here and Archer of Black vs Rider of Red is probs one of my favorite fights in Fate now.

God, seeing this scene, the one from the Fate route. Having Mordred see the actual scene where Merlin warns Arturia, I love that.

And that’s what happened, she ceased to be human. She just became a king, never able to live as a person, until the day she died.

And yet, she doesn’t regret it.

She took the sword anyway.

And I love how Merlin turns to Mordred asking what Mordred will do in this situation, with this information.

Fellas I say it a lot but it cannot be understated: The Fate/Apocrypha anime was a bad adaptation.

Entire character arcs were cut, especially for the Red faction. Karna has this whole thing where he really really badly wants to fight Siegfried again which is why he’s so happy when he fights Sieg at the climax. Gone. Achilles has flashbacks about Penthesilea. Gone.

Character moments like Shakespeare buying his books from the store or Sieg helping Jeanne do Laeticia’s math homework are gone.

The anime completely skips over or changes crucial details. No mention is made of Sieg using Galvanism in his fight with Karna, leaving the reason he can suddenly spam his NP a mystery. The anime does not have Kairi teleporting Mordred out of Blasted Tree with a CS, leaving how Mordred survived unexplained.

And so on.

Neither of their translations are finished but please read the novel and/or manga instead of judging Apocrypha solely on the anime.

At least it was pretty to look at and had a banger of a soundtrack.

That earlier post about Sieg got me thinking about how like. The fanbase will call fate protags like Hakuno and Sieg (and apparently Shirou once upon a time) bad because they lack personality even though in the first 2’s case they hadn’t even been alive for more than a week, and Shirou has crippling trauma that stunted him as a person, but nah they’re clearly bad characters. Why can’t fate fans read.

FATE! FANS! CAN’T! READ! in shirou’s case it was like 90% the fault of the 2006 deen anime though because they completely gutted his character and he actually was that bland and stupid in that one, so since it was the easiest way to consume a fate + even if you do read the vn you still have to sit through king chauvinist of fuckwad mountain early fate route shirou twisting your image of him further, the image of “shirou is bland and stupid” prevailed until the ufotable anime in 2014.

and even with sieg i can sorta see where it’s coming from? because he’s got a pretty reserved personality which especially next to more colorful characters like astolfo/mordred/[apocrypha character of your choice] will make it hard for him to catch the attention of more surface level readers. but here too I cannot stress enough how much worse the anime made it for him, because so much of the subtle things that make him good just did not make it to the fucking screen and he actually is a significant percentage cardboard in there, and because neither the novels or the manga are completely available in english it’s literally going to be a repeat of deen shirou i hate it i hate it i hate it

if you think hakuno is bland you literally just don’t have fucking eyes
