Seo yul x reader - soft - fluff - a bit of angst???

a/n: this was a a bit of a rush.

Abandonment was something you’ve normalised as a child. Neither your parents ever gave you the love and affection you were supposed to receive. As their attention were on Cho Yeon and Bu Yeon. Maybe all you could remember growing up was about books, books and more books.

When you were a kid, there was only 4 things you’ve admired to achieve. Jipsu, Ryusu, Tansu, Chisu. It took you 6 months to master everything in secret. The shortest period you could achieve.

What could’ve been hidden was you were a creation of your mother’s love affair. Which in results lead to you being kicked out of Jinyowon right after a fight with your mother, Ho gyeong.

You never learnt your own history. All you knew was your father was a mage in Jinyowon. Was. Because later on he died for getting caught wild. You got closer to a songrim mage named Yul. And for longer, a person that could heal the crack in your heart of an inner child, it’s him.

He was the only person you’ve touched without having the feeling of hatred murder in your mind.

Yul knew you better than anyone else could.

Until you got accepted to Songrim and you no longer feel the need to reminisce your old life. You started a new one at Songrim with Yul by your side.

Other mages never saw you in a battle with anyone. It never came to your mind how you became the topic everyone talked about. You got into songrim Jeongjinak because Yul “helped” you out. That was a false statement.

You watch as the golden toad disappear as each day passes by. It was lessen until it was left only one more. “do you think Beom is going to win?” The sound of Yul’s voice caught your attention as you turned to face him.

“ we don’t know what Uk has on his mind. I don’t think Beom will even step up.” You replied.

But soon before Yul could talk with you, the crown prince guard walked up to him. “the highness wants to see you.”

“Did you do something wrong?” You questioned and Yul had a frown on his face with a slight confusion. But if he did something wrong he would’ve acknowledged it and told you.

So he didn’t do any mistake.

“i didn’t want to take you as the last duel because I know how close you and Uk are.” The crown prince said as he look at Yul with determination in his eyes. “But I’m not going to be a villain of course. I just really want someone who’s more confident in beating Jang uk.” He continued.

To see Yul and Uk fight was a rare thing to witness. Especially when they both had been best friends since they were teens. No one could deny, Yul is one of the best mages in Jeongjinak. But he hesitates when it comes to a duel with someone he truly cares about.

Maybe if you were a soul shifter running wild, he wouldn’t have the guts to petrify you.

There was a deep silence filled in the air while the crown prince suddenly eyes you who was standing beside Yul.

“I have a suggestion your highness. Let’s have y/n replace me instead?” Beom suggested and Yul eyes was looking at him with a glare.

The crown prince doesn’t know you well. He saw you here and there but never once he had ever thought about you being in a duel against Uk.

“don’t pull someone else in because you couldn’t-”

“ so that was your name? I believe you are Yul’s lover. Am I right?” The crown prince cut Yul’s conversation and the room fell silence again. His grip on your wrist was tighter than usual.

“yes. Your highness.” Yul replied, backing away.

“I never saw her in a duel before. But I believe she is a mage in Jeongjinak for a reason. Beom idea wasn’t bad.” He said and you could feel Yul panicking. Your hand found his, rubbing the palm of his hand. “I believe I can beat Uk under two conditions your highness.” You told him and he was ready to hear your words.

“If I won then Mu deok is automatically under me. And the jade will also be mine.” You look at him, who was holding the small egg jade in his hand.

You couldn’t risk Mu deok in another person’s responsibility. If this was the least you could do for Mu deok as a return of kindness to what she had done for you, then it’ll be worth the pain you’re going to face.

“I can make your time worthwhile your highness.”

“If you get hurt then I won’t forgive myself. You still have time to withdraw love.” Yul said, holding you as if you were made out of porcelain. A part of you were grateful for a man like him to exist in your life. The warmth feeling started to spread in your heart.

You smile at him before your lips touches his, feeling a curve on the corner of his lips. “please don’t get hurt.”

“I won’t.” You replied and you heard the crown prince announced something and you both know it’s time to go.

He haven’t seen you duel in a long time due to a curse you have in your body. Duel cost energy to drain in you. Recovering will take a while.

The moment you stepped up, you notice someone that had caught your eye. People from Jinyowon, Cheonbugwan, Seongrim and the Royal Family.

“Y/n told me she could give me a great time. Everyone will be here since this will be the last duel with Uk.”

You avoided eye contact with Uk. Unsheathing your sword and Uk began to attack you while you were defending. All you could focus was on the sword clinking each time yours and UK’s sword meet. You didn’t know what happened. You attack Uk by slicing a droplet.

But it never came to your mind to use Tansu. You never wanted to hurt him no matter what was the situation. You stood there with a heavy breath while your knuckles turn white from gripping your sword. There was a few gasp and muttering amongs the crowd but Yul only how you were holding yourself from dropping on your knees.

‘this is the first time to see her fight.’

‘Is this why she’s a mage?’

‘Everyone at Jeongjinak and Songrim knows Yul is dating her.’

‘She managed to perform Tansu. That means she’s as skilled as Yul.’

it’s over.

You used your last strength to smile at Jang uk who was struggling to stand back up. “I guess you did improve a lot.” And when you turn around, you were met with Yul ‘s embrace, before he pulled you away from the people to a more private place.

“I shouldn’t have done that.” you whispered to him, burying your face in his chest as he held you close.

there was a sudden guilt in your heart. the guilt feeling that gave you a sense of deja vu. “it was accidental. you haven’t fought in a long time. You can’t control your mind on what you desire in a fight love.” He replied.

your heart was racing. Your breathing was faster than usual. He took her hands, placing it on his chest so you could follow his breathing properly instead of losing your mind. His soft hands cupped your face before kissing you.

“let rumours believe what they want. You’re under my responsibility and I won’t let a single word hurt you. I love you.”

“Hello and welcome back to another episode of That’s So Evie!” Eve greeted from inside a pottery studio. “Today, we are at Pottery workshop Yoho. It’s my first time coming here, so I’m very excited!” She shook her hands excitedly. “Today’s guest is… unworldly? Yes, that’s the right word for him. Please come out!”

[Kpop’s Prince Charming with master class acting. Making his long awaited solo debut, Minhyun!]

The staff cheered as Minhyun walked into the frame.

Covering her mouth, Eve laughed. “Why are you cheering so loud? You don’t normally cheer this loud.”

“Do they not normally cheer?” Minhyun asked as he stood next to Eve.

“No, they do, but… they’re not usually so energetic. Do you have a crush on today’s guest?” She asked the camera director, who shook her head and waved her hand. “Then why are you so excited?”

“Because he’s pretty,” one of the technical staff answered, causing Minhyun to blush.

Eve slowly shook her head in thought. “Have you never seen a pretty person before?”

[Butterfly princess struggles to understand the staff’s excitement]

Eve eyed the staff one more time. “Anyways, today’s guest is Minhyun. Please introduce yourself to the viewers.”

Minhyun bowed. “Hello, I’m Hwang Minhyun. Thank you for having me!”

“Thank you for coming,” Eve said. “How are you feeling today?”

Minhyun put his hand over his chest. “To be honest, I’m a bit nervous,” he said with a laugh. “I’m not really sure what we’re doing today, so I don’t know if I’ll be good.”

“Since you have been described by many as a ‘living statue’,” Eve began, snorting when Minhyun cringed. “I thought we should make pottery since it will be a statue of some sort. Is that okay?”

Minhyun nodded. “Yes. I think I’ll be good with that.”

“Good! And because I have no idea how to make pottery, we are going to need some guidance. Can our teacher come out please?”

A man walked into frame and the staff cheered for him.

“Why aren’t you cheering loudly? You don’t think he’s handsome?” Eve asked, causing the staff to cheer louder.

“Aigo, you’re very mischievous, aren’t you?” The teacher asked as he stood in between the two idols.

Eve smirked.

“She is,” Minhyun answered with a nod of his head.

[Minhyun already knows Eve so well]

“Please introduce yourself,” Eve requested.

The teacher cleared his throat. “Hello, viewers. My name is Park Insoo and I will be guiding Minhyun-ssi and Eve-ssi today.”

“One of my friends is named Insoo,” Minhyun said.

[Minhyun worked with Yoo Insoo on Alchemy of Souls. Park Danggu, we miss you!]

“How good do you think we’ll do?” Eve asked.

Insoo thought for a second. “Not that good, if I’m being honest.”

[Reality check]

“But that’s fine because it’s your first time doing this. You’re allowed to make mistakes.”

Eve nodded. “Also, one of the main points of the show is to just catch up with people as if you’re friends, so just address me casually.”

“Me too,” Minhyun added.

“Okay,” Insoo said. “Nabi-yah and Minhyun-ah. Got it.”

The group of three moved to a long table that had all their equipment.

“The first thing we want to do is knead the clay.” Insoo picked up his clay, Eve and Minhyun copied him. “We’re working with air dry clay and we’ll be making trays.”

“Trays?” Eve clarified.

“Yes,” he confirmed. “You can put your jewellery on it, or you can put vases on it– it’s up to you. The first thing we need to do is knead it to get rid of air bubbles. Let’s get started on kneading our clay. If it’s a bit hard to knead, then just add a few drops of water.”

The three got to working on their clay, kneading it very attentively.

“Minhyun, can you tell us about your album?” Eve asked, adding water to her clay to make it easier to knead.

“Yes. I’m making my solo debut with Truth or Lie and the title track Hidden Side. The title track is about how there’s many sides to me, but what you see is the real me,” Minhyun explained, smoothing out his clay.

She nodded appreciatively. “Sounds interesting. Which side of you would you say is your real side, though? Because you said what I, as an onlooker or a fan, see is the real you, but what is the real you.” She turned to look at him over Insoo. “Who is the real Hwang Minhyun?” She asked in a news reporter voice.

Insoo snorted. “She’s really good.”

Eve blushed, trying to use her fringe to hide her face.

“That’s a really good question,” Minhyun gushed, standing still. “Who is the real me?” He thought for a second. “I think… I don’t know,” he finished flatly, giving up on answering. He laughed, shrugging his shoulders. “I don’t know. I just sing the song. But that’s a very good question.”

“Right?” Insoo agreed. “Very professional.”

“This show is going to be very successful if you keep asking such amazing questions.”

Eve scrunched her face up. “Please stop complimenting me. I’m begging you.”

“Do you not like getting complimented?”

She shrugged. “It’s not that I don’t like getting complimented, it’s just I don’t know how to react and I end up feeling uncomfortable. That’s all.”

He nodded. “I understand.”

“Now,” Insoo started once he had checked Eve and Minhyun’s clay, “we’re going to use a rolling pin to roll the clay flat. Be careful not to make it too flat.”

After rolling out their clay, they cut off the extra pieces on the side. They rolled the clay once more, making it thinner and smoother.

“Trace out the shape you want your tray to be,” Insoo instructed, drawing a circle on his clay with his finger. Eve drew a water puddle shape and Minhyun drew a rectangle. After tracing the shape, they cut it out with a knife.

“What do we do with the extra clay?” Minhyun asked, holding the excess clay in his hand.

Insoo answered, “We’re going to use it now. We’ll roll it into a cylinder shape.”

“Like this?” Eve asked, rolling her clay.

Insoo nodded. “That’s perfect.”

“How long have you been making pottery?”

“Um, about thirty years.”

Eve gasped. “That’s older than Minhyun and I. You must be really old.”

Insoo laughed. “Nobody’s ever said that to my face.”

“I’m sorry,” she apologised, bowing her head.

[Baby chick who has no filter]

When they had all rolled their clay, Insoo cut it in half down the middle for them. They then applied water to the edge of their tray clay and put half of the rolled up clay on the water area, creating a barrier. They used a wooden stick to smooth it down, creating a seamless connection between the two clays and used their fingers to make it smooth.

“I’m doing better than I thought I would,” Minhyun said, inspecting his clay. “I really thought I was going to do bad, but I’m doing okay.”

“You’re both doing good,” Insoo complimented. “I’m impressed. Now, take your sponge, dip it in the water and ring it out. Then wipe it along your tray.”

“Are we washing it?” Eve asked.

“Kind of.” After doing that, Insoo clapped his hands. “That was really good. Now, they need to air dry.”

Eve scratched her nose and put her hands back on the table.

“You got clay on your face,” Insoo told her.

“Really?” She tried wiping it off, spreading more clay on her face. “Is it gone?”

“It’s on your hands, so the more you touch your face..”

She groaned. “Making pottery… it’s not easy. Just imagine if I tried to touch my hair. That would be the end!”

[7 days later…]

“We’re back everybody!” Eve shouted.

“How do you have so much energy?” Minhyun asked. “Even the other day, you were dancing after finishing each step.”

She shrugged. “I’m young. It’s in my nature to have energy.”

“Are you calling me old?” He asked, surprised. He looked to the staff behind the camera in shock before looking back at Eve. “How could you call me old? I’m your guest!”

“You’re so dramatic, no wonder you’re an actor,” she said, causing everyone to laugh. “Insoo, please direct us once again.”

“Yes.” He walked to a drawer and fetched their trays, putting them on the table. “As you can see, the trays have changed colour. That’s because it was fully dried.” Minhyun and Eve nodded. “Now, it’s time for the fun part: painting!”

“This is what I was looking forward to the most,” Eve admitted, holding her tray.

“Choose what colour paint you would like,” he said.

“Since you’re the guest, you should choose first,” Eve told Minhyun.

“Okay.” Minhyun picked black and white. “I googled some ideas yesterday, so I know what I want to do.”

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” she admitted with a laugh. She picked pink, yellow and orange.

“I’m sure you’ll think of something,” Insoo said, picking purple and blue for his tray.

The three got to painting their trays.

“Minhyun, how do you feel about being known as a top visual?” Eve asked.

“What do you mean?”

She looked up at him. “A lot of attention is put on your visuals more than anything else. Do you wish more people paid attention to you singing, dancing and acting? Or even just to you as a person?”

He stared at her. “You’re really good at this,” he said with a laugh, shaking his head. “Wah, really… wah. I–I don’t even remember the question.”

[Minhyun is amazed by Eve’s interviewing skills]

Insoo repeated the question as Eve was too busy hiding behind the counter.

Minhyun nodded. “Yes. But my visuals are what sucks people in and then they later come to know about my personality and my talents and things like that. There are times I wish people paid more attention to my work than my face, but it helps. Because I get more acting opportunities.”

Eve hummed, having stood up when Minhyun answered the question. “So basically, your face is what people see, and everything else about you is your hidden side?”

“You’re a real pro!” He exclaimed.

“I’m so impressed,” Insoo commented.

Eve shook her head. “No, it’s just basic interviewing!”

“It seems very advanced to me.”

“Aigo, no!”

They continued painting their trays until they were finished.

“Now, we let it dry and then tomorrow, we can do the final step,” Insoo said.

“This is such a long process,” Minhyun commented.

“Right,” Eve agreed. She addressed the main camera, “See you tomorrow.”

[The next day…]

“Okay, everyone, it’s our last day of working on our trays. How has it been for you?” Eve asked her two guests.

“It was so much fun, I really enjoyed myself,” Minhyun answered. “Even though it’s taken more than a week, it feels as if it happened really quickly.”

“You two are the best beginners I’ve ever taught,” Insoo said, causing the staff to cheer. “I’m really impressed by how well you did everything.”

“Thank you, thank you,” Eve thanked. “Should we finish up now?”

“Yes.” Insoo fetched their trays and put them on the table. “As you can see, the trays have been painted, but they look dull. So we’re going to add a layer of varnish to the trays to add a glossy look. Just dip your paint brush into the varnish and apply a thin layer onto the top and then the bottom. You can add another layer if you think you need to, but I don’t think we’ll need to.”

The three applied the layer of varnish to their trays, talking as they finished up their pottery. Once they finished applying it, they showed them off to the camera, Minhyun first, Insoo second and Eve last.

“Thank you for coming on the show, Minhyun and thank you for being a good teacher, Insoo,” Eve said. “Please remember to support Hidden Side a lot. See you soon, bye!”

Summary: From the moment he was casted, Ren wasn't sure if he had what it would take to be a pop idol. Losing faith in himself, he was going to give up the future he had always wanted, but one person stood by his side and renewed his faith. After a hot debut and rapid growth of stardom, Ren started to notice that maybe this person, his close friend, was something more. But how could a straight man even remotely think of a homosexual relationship?

Warnings: Homophobia, some smut (chapters will be marked)

A/N: I wrote this series back in 2012 and used OCs and over the top writing style for arguments. Whoops. Lmao it’s pretty decent though, so I hope you enjoy!

Baekho's POV

"You're a mess." I whispered. Taking the tissue, I wiped away the running eyeliner. "God you look like a raccoon." I said and laughed softly.

"I'm sorry." Ren whispered. "I didn't mean to cry like such a baby." Frowning, I lowered my hand and stared at him. He wasn't a baby, though he did cry like one. But I understood, he was scared of having sex, scared of losing me, and I was scared of losing him. But I knew I was going to do anything to keep him close to me.

"Don't be sorry. We took it slow didn't we?" I asked with a grin. A flush spread across his cheeks and I chuckled. He was just so damn cute.

"Actually we moved a whole lot faster than I thought we would." Ren admitted and I nodded. We moved fairly quickly the moment we got into the room. But he didn't stop me and I didn't get carried away. I played to his needs and when he finally choked up, like I knew he would, I stopped and just held him until he stopped crying.

And that's how we ended up in the bathroom naked. It was nice, what we did and we both got off at least once, I think Ren got off twice though. It wasn't until I tried fingering him that he had issues. And I wasn't sure I was doing it right. Didn't really have time to look up how to have gay sex, or ask anyone really. Anyone being Aron and Minhyun.

"We did and it was fun right?" I asked, slipping my arms around his waist, pulling him close to me.

"It was." Ren said and smiled. His arms wrapped around my waist and I smiled. I liked being in his arms as much as I liked holding him in mine. Before I always thought that this was a friendly gesture, but looking back, deep down I knew I liked this more than a friend should. I liked holding Ren and touching him and now, I love kissing him. Another thing I got upset up about when he closed up towards me.

"And it didn't get uncomfortable until the end right?"

"Right." Ren said with a nod.

"So see, you weren't scared of everything. Just the big thing. Which we can work on okay?" I said and kissed his cheek gently.

"I know we can." Ren said as he stared up at me. Sighing, he rested his head on my shoulder. Rocking him gently, I stroked his back. "I still feel so embarrassed that I cried like that. You hadn't really done anything, just touched me." He whispered.

"And it's okay." I said and pulled back. Grabbing Ren's chin, I lifted his head so he could stare at me. "Baby it's scary. I know I would feel the same if you were doing that to me. I understand, so don't feel embarrassed." I told him.

"And I won't do it again until you're ready, no matter how long that takes." I assured him.

"Really?" Ren asked, eyes wide. I nodded to him and he grinned. "Oh Baekho! I love you so much!" He exclaimed as he moved his arms from my waist to my neck and kissed me happily. I let out a small laugh as our lips met, my arms tightening as I held him against me tightly. Pulling back, I licked my lips.

"I love you too Ren." Kissing him again, I sighed happily. "Let's go back to the bed now. I think we have enough time to please each other again before someone comes looking for us." I said. Ren nodded eagerly and stepped away from me. Letting him go, I took his hand and led him out of the bathroom and back to the bed for a little more loving.

Minhyun's POV

Oh my god, I can't believe all that has happened in the past few weeks and the tour isn't even over yet! I can only imagine what's going to happen when we get home. And I'm not looking forward to it. I love Ren to death and all, but he is seriously fucking up this relationship he's in. I understand he's scared of sex, I was too at first, but I didn't let that fear stop me and Aron. But Ren is different than me, far more...what's the word?

Delicate?

Sensitive?

Feminine?

A combination of all those words. He is...our maknae and he takes things differently than the rest of us. He's also stubborn as a damn horse and if he doesn't open his eyes and realize what he's doing to his relationship, he's going to regret it. Baekho isn't a saint either. He's not helping the situation at all, but I can't blame the guy. He looks so lost when I stare at him and I feel so bad.

But that doesn't excuse him for his actions and he deserved each and every punch he got from me. But hopefully with JR talking to them, everything will work out. They'll work it out somehow and we won't feel so much tension. I'm sure our fans feel the tension at the concerts.

And let's not get on the subject of Aron. I don't know what was up with him and trying to get me and JR to work on things. So far we have, going at our own pace. I'm fact, we're almost back to normal. We can hold civil conversations, we can be alone together for a short time. While I don't think I could ever forgive him for what he did, he is slowly gaining back my trust and we are becoming friends again. I'm thankful for that. I do miss the times JR and I would just hang out together. Those were the good old days.

Stretching, a grunt left me as bones cracked and I felt so much better. Walking to my door, I pulled out the room key and slid it into the slot. Waiting for green, I opened the door and walked in. It was quiet, which was strange because I had left Aron alone. It had taken a lot of convincing to the two that I wouldn't go find Baekho and kill him. I believed JR when he said that Ren and Baekho were going to work on their relationship, so I wasn't going to interrupt that and possibly ruin the chances of them ever getting back together.

Walking into the open room, I stared at the bed and smiled. The old man was fast asleep. I shouldn't say that though, making fun of Aron like that. The other had been sounding horse lately and seemed sluggish as of late. I think he's getting sick and I feel so bad for him. Which means we're probably going to miss him at one or more concerts.

Shaking my head, I moved to the small table by the window and sat down. I looked over the mess of papers, pictures and random items fondly. A blue piece of paper caught my attention and I picked it up. It was a small note from JR.

'Minhyun,

I tucked Aron-hyung in. He said he wasn't feeling good and he looked a bit sick. I'll let manager-hyung know so we can get him taken care of so hopefully he won't miss any of the concerts on the tour. I checked on Ren and Baekho while you were out and they were getting to know each other...on the bed I sleep on in the room I share with Baekho.

I didn't mean to catch them, but I did and it got me to thinking about things, things I've been thinking about on and off for the past few months. It's crazy what's going on in my head and I don't understand it. But there is something inside me that's just, I guess screaming at me.

Anyway, I'm sure I've got you confused now, so I'll just tell you what I need to tell you and work out the rest later when you confront me about it.

I read the note about three or four times more and each time my heart skipped a few beats. Despite what we've been through, and the fact that I probably will never forgive him for being a closed minded homophobic ass, I still love him. JR was the first man I've ever loved, though not the first guy I've liked, which are two totally different feelings. He's my first love and all I've ever wanted was for him to love me too.

And nearly six months and countless dates and love making with Aron later, he finally says it. And worst of all, my first thought is to dump Aron and go to JR. But I can't do that. Aron has been there for me through it all. He's the second man I've ever loved and I do love him. But the prospect of being with JR, it's almost irresistible. I'm not that kind of person, and I know if I go to JR like that, Aron would think I was simply using him and that's not the case.

Oh god, what do I do?

I crumpled up the paper and threw it in the trash. Getting up, I took a few deep breaths to calm myself and moved to the bed Aron was laying on. Pulling back the covers, I crawled in behind him. Pulling the covers back up, I slid my arm around his waist and kissed his cheek gently. He shifted back against me and moaned softly, but never woke.

"I love you." I whispered softly as I got comfortable, spooning him. Resting my head on the pillow, I stared at the back of his head for a moment before closing my eyes.

What the hell am I going to do?

You can’t breathe, the air stuck in your chest.

“The trainee who has finally achieved their dream of placing 3rd place in the final Top 9 is…”

Just say it already, dammit.

“Seok Matthew!”

You’re cheering wildly along with the rest of the crowd as Matthew’s shocked expression is blown up on the big screen. As the other trainees surround him, he breaks down and you can’t help tearing up as well.

You’re standing in the section reserved for family, a little bit removed from where Matthew’s mom and sister are. They had insisted you come stand with them but you knew how risky it was. Instead, you’re standing at the side, mask on, choosing to pass as one of the general family members or close friends of the trainees.

His sister turns to you, also teary-eyed and mouths “he did it!” You nod, practically choking back sobs and praying the cameras won’t catch you.

“Trainee Seok Matthew, congratulations. Please come to the front.”

Matthew hugs his fellow trainees one last time before you watch him shuffle forward, still crying. You’re still crying. His mom and sister are still crying as they’re congratulated by the three aunties who you’ve learned are there for Ricky.

As he walks, he glances at the section you’re all standing in, eyes finding you. You manage to shoot a weak thumbs up before he reaches the stage.

“Trainee Seok Matthew captured the hearts of Star Creators from his entrance with his sweet smile.”

It’s not a surprise. He captured your heart first, long before the world got to see that sweet, sweet smile you fell in love with. Matthew was cute and charming and easy to fall for.

“Also his vocals stood out in every performance and helped create a perfect stage.”

But you knew his heart was big and his dreams were bigger. At some point, you were going to have to share him with the world. And you were okay with that. Because Matthew’s talent shines the brightest when he’s performing. You’d give him the world’s biggest stage if you could.

“Trainee Seok Matthew, I sincerely congratulate you for successfully debuting!”

Matthew bows, thanking the MC Hwang Minhyun before looking back at your section. As you subtly wave at him, his face only crumples as he tries to not to sob again. You’re no better, your mask soaked through with how hard you're crying.

Then, the MC says something that will be permanently burnt in your brain forever.

“Yes Canada oppa, Trainee Seok Matthew.”

Despite producing enough tears to create a small puddle, you can’t help but mirror Matthew, nearly doubling over in laughter at the sudden nickname. You’re laughing and crying, truly multitasking at its finest. It’s so perfectly in the moment that you almost don’t catch the second part of the MC’s question.

“How do you feel about achieving your dream of debuting?”

Oh but you’re so clowning him for it later. If he thinks he’s getting away with it, he better think twice.

“I…”

Matthew starts shakily and now you’re back to crying.

“Honestly, this feels like a dream right now. I’ve lost so much confidence recently.”

He’s worried to you over stolen phone calls. What if he failed? What if he didn’t debut? Should he look for a job? Go back to Canada? Thinking about that made you all the more emotional, you tried your best to reassure him but this was an industry that took so much of a person and sometimes left them a shell of themselves. It made them question who they were, what they were worth. It put some of them on a pedestal and let others fall, breaking them apart.

“But my hyungs always took care of me at the dorms and kept telling me that things will go well for me. I couldn't really believe them, but being able to be here now, I am so grateful. Also, the Masters have always encouraged me, so I am grateful to them as well.”

You were grateful for them too. To be there for him, to take care of him when you couldn’t. Your heart squeezed thinking about the months you spent apart, stealing every moment together that you could and shoving it into the recesses of your heart so that no one would take it away from you.

“I have chased this dream for two years. Now, to think that I can finally live my dream everyday, it really feels like a dream. So, I am so happy.”

Matthew was so wide-eyed and in wonder of everything back then. He still is, you think fondly. But there’s a maturity to him now that makes you so proud. He thanks his agency and the program’s staff before turning to your section again.

“My eomma and noona have also come today.”

You watch as his eyes go from them to you and he lets out another sob before apologising, addressing his mom. You can only watch, wishing that you could stand there and comfort her as well. But you love Matthew and this is his dream and you can’t ever bring yourself, for any reason, to take it away from him.

“Eomma, thank you so much for trusting me and letting me come to Korea. I’ve finally made it here, so I will do my best to become a loving and cool son whom you can be proud of.”

God, when will you stop crying?

“I just love you so much, Eomma. I missed you.” And you think he’s done but Matthew doesn’t even breathe. He's still looking at your section but his eyes are only on you as he repeats the sentiment in English.

“I love you and missed you so much.”

His sister shoots you a knowing look as Matthew goes on to thank the Star Creators and wraps up his speech. You wave her away while the cameras follow your boyfriend walking up the stairs. He’s hugging his other group members, so happy, so excited to finally be there.

And you can’t help but smile through your tears.

Because you know how much love Matthew has to give and these boys are incredibly lucky to be on the receiving end of it. You only hope that they’ll love him back. And you know they will, because it’s incredibly hard to not love Seok Matthew.

The first moment you get is backstage, away from the cameras. You’ve finally agreed to stand with his mom, holding his sister’s hand as you wait for Matthew to wrap up filming. When he walks through the door, all of you are trying your best to not devolve back into a crying mess. You step back, letting him take his time with his family, trying your best to compose yourself.

But by the time he’s in front of you, you can’t help but throw your arms around him. He’s practically holding you up, neither of you wanting to let go. Except you have to at some point. His arms loosen, still holding you but enough so you can face each other. Your lips tremble. You really should say something, anything to keep you from breaking down right in front of him.

“So Canada oppa, is it?”

There’s that smile you know and love.

“Ah really? Is that how you’re going to be?”

“I can’t help it,” you fall back into your easy, comfortable banter, playing with the lapels of his uniform jacket. “It’s iconic really, would be a shame if no one uses it.”

“I missed you.” He says, catching you off guard. “My baby did a lot of crying for me today. Your eyes are still so puffy.”

“You cried too.” You pout at him before letting yourself admit it. “And I really did miss you.”

Matthew looks around, checking for any cameras before he presses a quick kiss to your lips, hands sliding to your waist. This is your life now. He’s not an anonymous trainee anymore. You have to be more careful.

“They’ll give us a few days off before the next official schedule.” he murmurs to you like it’s some grand secret. It probably is, there’s definitely an NDA or two to be signed. “Let’s do something, just us.”

You let yourself smile.

“Okay Canada oppa, text me.”

“You’re really not going to let this go, are you babe?”

“I’m changing your contact name as soon as I get that text.”

You know from now on that it’s not going to be easy for the two of you. But Seok Matthew is easy to love and he chooses to love you. You will get through this.

Requested: hi!! i love your writing and i have a request. reader is a kep1er member and when it’s revealed that gunwook placed 5th, y/n gets up and rushes over to him and they bear hug each other!! the camera pans to them and that starts all the fans spreading rumors that you both are dating (which the agency later reveals is true) tysm!! Author's note: thank you so much for requesting, this is one of the cutest ideas I've heard so I knew I had to do it :)) I've modified some things from the finale to be more logical but it really isn't much so I hope you enjoy <3

The finale meant everything to gunwook as he almost tasted his opportunity to debut approximate and having you by his side made his experience ten times better.

"Welcome star creators all around the world to the boys planet finale where we'll get to know out top 9 that'll make it into the groups group"started speaking the mc, hwang minhyun.

Clapping and cheering was heard around the stadium where the final event would be held, everyone rooting for their top picks and for those who they wanted so bad to debut.

As gunwook and the rest of the trainees were standing on backstage ready to enter the main stage to interpret their song "Here I am" one last time they could feel the support and the excitement from the public that was ready to welcome them.

The nerves and the situation was starting to get the worst out of everyone at this point, but they couldn't just give up when they were literally so close, no,not now. They had to keep fighting and making efforts to secure a spot in the final top 9.

Gunwook started to space out and get on his head as every minute made him want to finish this quickly so he could get it out of his chest.

He reacted when he heard the mc's voice continue his speech:

"Now for the guests we have none other than Kep1er!"

His face curled up into a smile as he imagined you on the stage waiting for him to be announced as part of the debut team. His girlfriend already knowing how hard the process was due to having experienced it herself.

All the applauses and the whistles made it clear that it was their clue to get onto stage and get ready to perform. While he got there he made sure to search for your figure on the guest zone. As your eyes locked,you both smiled to yourselves as you knew how much it meant to be there for both of you. For him to have his girlfriend by his side in a crucial moment for his career and for you to be present in that special instant.

After all the fun and games that the trainees little videos and their preparation for their final performance it was the time for the actual stages. Gunwook would he doing "Jelly Pop", and you were anticipating it so much as his previous concepts had been much stronger and powerful than this one.

He looked at you one last time before concentrating into giving his all as you mouthed a small "fighting".

As the music started you immediately started to humm along and move your feet with the music giving you an instant serotonin boost, having a contagious overall happy vibe.

On the parts he was in the center you felt your smile almost spreading out of your face as he flashed you little hearts that he knew you'd see thank to your attention to detail that applied as well as one of the main dancers in your group. Bayyih nudged you on the side teasing you and your lovey dovey demeanour towards your s/o.

"Stop smiling like that, you are disgusting me jeez".

"I can't help it tho"you responded punching her shoulder softly

"We should get ready now"said Hikaru

"Yeah we should"

You made your way towards the behind of the stage as you'd be presenting your latest comeback to the public before it came out, which was long awaited by the fans.

After your performance the mc motioned your group to get closer to the stage for the debut announcement as they thought that your group could empathise with them.

Although it was a little bit surprising and kind of weird you accepted nonetheless because well, you didn't have any problem with something as simple as that, just staying on the stage but on a corner. Besides you got the opportunity to be closer to your boy :))

And now...it was the time, the time everyone was waiting for and that would decide the future of the group. Hwang Minhyun started by the rank 8th, being reclaimed by jiwoong.

Then it came the 7th, being occupied by gyuvin.

Later on, the 6th, by taerae.

Now you were starting to get nervous, gunwook's name hadn't been called yet and it made your heart sink a lil as you wanted to hear his name as soon as possible signalling his secured spot.

Right after you started to get on your head you payed attention to the mc as he was about to announce the 5th rank.

You and all the public were literally holding your breath as you were impatient to know already the new member. Besides, the dear mc made it all more tense and intriguing by slowing the process and repeating himself a couple of times (annoying everyone out there).

"And the 5th rank is... park gunwook, congratulations"he clapped as everyone literally lost their minds.

In that exact moment he felt his world stop for a moment, putting his hand over his mouth as he was too stunned to do anything. After a few seconds of realisation he hugged everyone that was on his sight with the prettiest smile you had ever seen, her teeth showing up as white pearls.

While he was going into stage he looked at you with sparkling eyes opening his arms, like he was signalling you to come over and celebrate it with you. And right in that moment you couldn't help yourself but run into his arms as he gave you a big bear hug almost making you cry on the process and being captured by the cameraman/woman making everyone on the stadium and at home gasp in surprise.

At first the stadium went silent due to the shock, but after a few seconds it exploded in screams and applauses thanks to the cute act everyone had seen.

"Congratulations gunwookie"you said into his neck

He couldn't mouth a single word, he just held you tightly against him.

After the finale and all the celebration, it was time to face reality again. You had hugged gunwook in front of an audience, and national television! The problems you were gonna have were a few.

You texted your boyfriend to tell him your now current concern that also involved him, so you were kinds surprised that he didn't freak out yet because you were starting to do so.

-OMG gunwook I'm so sorry 😭😭😭

-sorry? For what?

You couldn't understand how he could be so calm about the situation, like he hadn't even debut and you just started dating rumours about him, you felt horrible.

-I mean hugging in you in national tv and in front of an audience? If I destroy your career I'll dig myself into a hole and cry for months, you deserve to debut baby :((

-oh but I don't mind that baby, in fact I'm willing to share about out relationship :))

-but...

-Look y/n I love what I do, I really do, but what I love over all things is you <3

You felt your heart tug a little and a feeling of proud spreading inside of you, he really knew how to make your heart flutter.

-I love you too, it's just I was a bit scared of ruining your debut, but we'll have to still clear it up to the public I guess

And that's exactly what you did, because wake one had called you fot a meeting to confirm if your relationship was real, to which you both affirmed it.

And as you revealed it to the rest of the people you got rid of your fears and the public opinion because the only thing that mattered to you was gunwook. He really was your whole world <3

key points.

[!!!] majority of minhyun's backstory is inspired by the lore on elves in mordenkainen's tome of foes. he's largely built behind the 100 years he's spent with his parents, as well as the memories of his past lives that he has seen during reverie.

both parents are former adventurers that decided to settle down in jeosung to raise 'byeol'. they're super cute.. childhood friends to lovers.. 2 for 1 combo all their lives.

his mother is an eloquence bard, she could convince you that the grass is blue and the sky is green. she works as a fortune teller (read as: scammer) and has an obsession with the stars. she taught minhyun how to play the lyre and be a menace charismatic, amongst other things.

his father on the other hand is more on the reserved side but still an absolute fool for his wife. he's a bladesinging wizard who taught minhyun everything he knows about sword fighting and smithing. he currently works as a blade smith.

in the first few years of life, whenever he would enter a trance to rest, he would see memories of past lives. one of the lives he would see is that of an adventurer — brave battles, near death moments, a life full of action and traveling. the other life he would see was a lot more mundane — time spent with a lover, a glimpse into a more domestic life.

minhyun's first century of life was fairly sheltered, his days were filled with various lessons on overall survival and navigating safely in this world. majority of the decisions in his life during this time were made by his parents as he was still considered a child.

as each year went by up until his 100th year of living, he would see the memories of his past lives less often, replaced with the new memories he's made in his current life. losing those memories really did a number to minhyun in the beginning, he had been so used to seeing them just to have them snatched away.

on his 100th birthday, he graduated from his child name byeol to his chosen name minhyun.

the first thing he decided to do in his adult life was join a traveling circus troupe. it was a free way to travel, learn new skills, and see new things. he eventually left after 8 years, his final act being at one of their stops back in jeosung.

to sum up the past 17 years that minhyun has been back in the city, he's been a bit more hobby-indulgent, though still sticking to his usual training. he's joined the adventurer's guild, and regularly takes up requests/contracts to keep the funds coming in so he can continue to enjoy his hobbies. overall, he's trying to find himself and the things he enjoys.

personality.

inquisitive.. he's so curious.. asks questions when he feels comfortable enough, good at reading the room when it comes to the annoyance level for him asking so much, though there are times where he'll keep asking to purposely annoy a person.

he can also be a bit nosy.. like he would 100% be one of those neighbors with their ear pressed against the wall while you're arguing with someone in your apartment.

a little bit mischievous (he gets it from his mom); again he can be a tiny bit of a menace when he feels like it, more uncontrolled when he considers you a friend.

passionate about the things he loves, he puts his all into his performances and the jewelry he crafts. not as passionate but more disciplined in keeping up with his training of controlling what memories he revisits during his trance, and his sword fighting.

overall, very friendly and loving.. he's got a big heart.. very.. puppy coded.. loyal boy... good boy...

Bittersweet- Seo Yul

Established relationship - fluff - angst - mention of blood and kissing!

Some things never really go the way we wanted it to be. The future changes everyone. Except it’ll took a while. God. The grief you went alone was extremely painful without him by your side.

Seo yul. Both of you had a bittersweet end. Or was it really the end of everything? Everyone went separate ways three years ago after that incident. The incident that made you suffer with sweat and tears to this day. You disappeared.

The view of a barrier surrounding Jeongjinak caught to your attention. You didn’t know why you were out in the first place. Watching as Jang uk and the crown prince throwing stones trying to get it through the barrier, which it only leads to reflecting back. Yul wasn’t here, but your mind couldn’t stop thinking about the argument you both had a few minutes ago. You haven’t heard anything from Yul but your gut is telling you something is wrong. Should you go check on him? From afar?

“Y/n? Are you okay? If you’re worried about being stuck in here then I can guarantee we get out soo-”

no. You weren’t worried about getting stuck in here. You were worried about something that could go wrong. There was a sharp pain in your chest. “ I’m sorry, I have to go.” Was the only thing you could voiced out before running. Running to Yul while silently hoping he would be alright. The charm you both have. You hated that. You hated how it always scares you if you feel somewhere in your body burning, like a sword through a chest.

This kind of feeling. A mix of terrified and regret in your mind. You regret everything, you wished you had listened to him instead of being stubborn.

You wished it wasn’t a reality to what you are currently seeing with your bare eyes as soon as you stepped inside. Everything around you collapsed. Like the only thing that you could still see was the man you love, lying on the table in a puddle of his own blood with a wound on his chest. A tear of yours poured, your own feet dragged your body to stand beside him. Yun ok tried to touch and clean his wound. “ he lost a lot of blood, if he doesn’t get the enough blood he needs, young master Seo might die.” your breath hitched.

So-i on the other hand was rambling something about threatening to cut out her own blood in order to save Yul. You won’t be needed that because you had already planned it. Even if it means the pain will be two times painful for you. “Love, I really need you to wake up.” You whispered, taking the sharp knife before watching as your blood drip down to the wound. You would be lying if it wasn’t painful.

Your hovered your hand in the air over the wound, feeling the energy working on its own. His chest looked like nothing had happened.

Seeing him moving made you breath in relief. Hissing at your injured hand and wrist. You felt his hand squeezing yours before his eyes slowly flutter open. His touch made you forget about everything that has been going on. It’s like stones getting lift off your shoulders.

“y/n.” you heard him called out your name and your attention quickly went towards Yul. Your clothes was stained with his blood. Yul saw how your other hand was wrapped.

This was the consequence.

That was the last time you saw him. Right after the barrier broke, he was taken to Sejukwon and you witnessed Jang uk’s death. That was the last time you got to hold Yul.

You thought that was the end for both of you. Nightmares were your best friend. Anxiety was painful. For three years. Three years you had waited for him. The first time you’ve heard rumours about him, it was recently how he was going to have a planned marriage with a Jinyowon daughter. Bu yeon.

Did he agree? Did he move on that fast? You didn’t know what your relationship with him is all about. Would he still remember you? Or was the past years of being in love with him was just flowing like the sea.

You don’t know what you were even doing. You saw So-i seems to be stalking on something, your eyes follow her vision and you saw someone familiar. Someone that you were longing for. Someone that you miss till death.

Yul.

You ran. You forget about everything else and went to his direction, standing in front of him while he takes his time to recognise who you are under the cloak. That’s before he realised it was you, burying you in his chest as he mutters your name.

“it’s really you… I thought you were gone. You didn’t reply to my letters and i-”

“I suffered a lot without you. The rumours. You were going to marry someone from Jinyowon. I thought you’ve… lost feelings.” His body tensed when you mentioned about the rumours.

It felt like falling in love all over again.

“Now that you’re here in my arms, I don’t think I could love anyone other than you. Love.”

(ALCHEMY OF SOULS EP 20 SPOILERS)

Okay, so, should the last half hour have started in like episode 19 at least? Yes. Did the fake Boo Yeon story bore me to tears? Yes. Did the meandering plot drive me to distraction many a time? Yes. Did two straight episodes of Daddy Jang wandering around the city, making sure he got in his 20,000 steps before finally showing up to join the drama and promptly anti-climactically dying have me pulling my hair out? Yes. Did the fitful doling-out of backstory and exposition make me seriously fear that the Hong sisters were making it all up as they went along? Yes. Did the show frequently veer towards wacky comedy when I wanted it to be a plot-focused emotional fantasy drama? Yes. Did spending 19 full episodes following a kick-ass assassin who couldn’t use any of her powers get old at a certain point? Yes.

BUT.

Did I really love this show? Yes! Am I deeply psyched for December? Yes. Did I love the dynamic between Mu Deok/Naksu and Wook, the fearsome assassin made humble and the arrogant young lord who served his maid as his master? Hell yeah. Did my heart kind of break for Yul, the quiet loner who was condemned to nurse a secret love and could never share his pain with anybody? Even though Minhyun doesn’t have a ton of emotional range? Surprisingly, yes. Did I enjoy most of the side characters and the worldbuilding? Yes. Am I genuinely invested in this story of mixed-up births and bodies and mysterious destinies written in the stars and honestly pretty cool-looking water magic? Yes.

I love dramas that take chances. I think Alchemy took some chances--it’s full-on fantasy, with no built-in frame of reference for the audience and it heavily relies on CGI, which isn’t an easy combination on a TV budget. And I acknowledge that it was far from perfect--I can only imagine how much more powerfully the ending of this episode would have landed if the potential of Jin Mu controlling Naksu could have been established early on, so that the dread could build as we were led towards this loss of her autonomy, which in a horrible twist of irony was also the moment in which she regained her power. If her rampage could have lasted longer, we could have seen more clearly how each character reacted to her violence and her true identity, and then we could have sat in the aftermath, really felt the moment of absolute loss that was Wook’s death. With better pacing, this could have all hit so much harder. But I did enjoy the journey, and I loved where we ended up. Wook walking out of his own funeral pyre? Incredible! Naksu losing everything in the cruelest way possible? I was compelled! Jin Cho Yeon having the worst month imaginable? I actually felt pretty bad for her! And most importantly, I really want to see what happens next.

I know there’s been a lot of chatter about the female lead for part two. I have really enjoyed Jung So Min’s performance, and would be happy to continue watching her. And I am a little confused about whether she truly won’t be in part 2 at all, since the fact that she is playing Jin Boo Yeon’s body would imply to me that she’s still a player in this story. But I’m also excited to get Naksu’s true form back, for a few reasons: 1) I really liked Go Yoon Jung in the first episode and am eager to see her get to perform the role again; 2) As I mentioned, I found it frustrating to watch a character who was initially defined by her immense power continuously have no access to that power. I’m hoping that with Naksu back in her own body, she can truly be Naksu, rather than Mu Deok; 3) If we’re hoping for a happy ending between Naksu and Wook (and I for one am!), then it could never be with her having hijacked someone else’s body. She did it to survive, sure, but every second she spent in Boo Yeon’s body was a theft. Boo Yeon deserves her body and her life back.

Okay, that was way longer than I planned! But yeah, I get people losing patience with this drama; I can’t deny that I myself did on occasion. But I’m so excited for part 2 (everyone got a haircut!) and overall I had a great time!

Synopsis: The fate of these people become twisted due to "hwanhonsool" (the soul of the dead return to the living). In the country of Daeho, Jang Wook (Lee Jae-Wook) comes from the noble Jang family. He holds an unpleasant secret about his birth, which people all around the country talk about. He is troublemaker. Jang Wook happens to meet Mu-Deok (Jung So-Min). She is an elite warrior, but her soul is trapped in a physically weak body. She becomes Jang Wook’s servant, but she also secretly teaches him how to fight. Seo Yool (Minhyun) comes from the noble Seo family. He seems perfect with good appearance, intelligence, and strong martial arts skills. Go Won (Shin Seung-Ho) is the crown prince of Daeho. He hopes to become a generous king.

Episode 4: Bruises on his back from the flogging, sweating and asks if it’s hot, female lead touches him and says he’s burning up because of the energy in him, cold water is poured on him to help cool him down, the energy in him makes him cold so his hands are blue and you see his breath, shaking from the cold, covered in blankets and shaking, says he’s so cold that he might pass out, starts to pass out but the female lead smacks his cheek to wake him up, female lead sits him up and he’s shaking, lying under blankets and you can still see his breath, female lead gets under the blankets with him to warm him up, he tells the female lead to take his energy if he freezes to death, starts to pass out but the female lead pats his cheek to keep him awake, sword fight, hit and knocked down multiple times, all his energy goes into one arm and makes him lose control of his sword, can’t control the energy in his arm and accidentally hits someone in the face, a binding bracket is wrapped around his wrist to control his energy, concern for him, he’s told to remove the binding bracelet and his energy starts to go out of control, he accidentally stabs someone in the shoulder, the binding bracelet is put back on, reprimanded, grabbed by his arms and taken to be locked up, told that he’s the result of an affair, crying, lying down and despondent, upset/angry

Episode 5: Stands in front of the female lead to protect her from a dog, removes the binding bracelet, sword fight, knocked to the ground multiple times, hit in the stomach, a few scratches are seen on his neck, jumps in front of the female lead to protect her, upset (comedic), angry (comedic), his powers cause a bowl to hit the head of the female lead by accident and he’s concerned for her, female lead throws things at him in anger, angry

Episode 7: Hitting a mirror to try to break it, frustrated/angry, carrying the unconscious female lead on his back, uses his sword to block a blast that was aimed at the female lead, sword fight, thrown against a wall, sword fight, thrown against a wall again and tumbles down some stairs, struggling to get up off the ground, removes his binding bracelet and uses his energy, thrust into what looks like water but he’s about to have someone’s soul enter his body

Episode 8: Wakes up and finds himself lying on the ground, the female lead thinks someone else’s soul is in his body so she points a sword at him, sword is swung at him multiple times, sword fight, thrown out of the way, concerned for the female lead, sword fight, hit and rolls off a table, sword fight 2x
