AU Bot Plots: The Tea Pot Rebellion
Tumblr media
In this AU, Zuko gives up chasing Aang fairly early. After the siege on the Northern Tribe, and Azula's attempt to murder him on Ozai's orders, Zuko gives up on everything. He and Iroh make it to Ba Sing Se, and start working at the tea shop. What Zuko doesn't realize is that Iroh is still very active in the White Lotus Society, and the tea shop is a front for an underground rebellion (he'll be embarrassed later that it took him so long to realize, but in his defense, he's pretty deep into a depression. It's pretty easy to slip stuff by him at this point).
After teaming up with Toph, the Gang ends up going to find Hakoda and his crew. That's when they learn about the White Lotuses, who are trying to gather as much support as possible to overthrow the Fire Lord. Sokka's plan to use the eclipse is discussed, but the problem of who would take over the Fire Nation after Ozai is brought up. That's when the Lotuses with Hakoda reveal that among their group is a high ranking member of the Fire Nation royal family. They trust him enough to want to install him as the new Fire Lord after getting rid of Ozai and Azula as threats. The Gaang is given a mission; go to Ba Sing Se and get King Kuei to send his troops into battle, rendezvous with the Fire Nation noble, and protect him until they clear the way to set him up on the throne.
It sounds too good to be true, but Hakoda trusts the White Lotus Society, and that's good enough for his children, at least. Getting to Ba Sing Se is easy, but then they encounter trouble with King Kuei's advisor, Long Feng. They can't get an audience with the king, and are threatened to not speak about the war within the walls of the city. Still, they manage to connect with the White Lotus members in Ba Sing Se, who take them to the Fire Nation noble who they want to put on the throne. It takes every member of the White Lotus present to prevent Katara and her friends from attacking Zuko, but finally everyone settles down enough for the White Lotus to explain everything. This is how Zuko finds out that not only has his uncle been a sleeper agent for a counter-Fire Nation rebel group, that group is now enlisting the Avatar and his friends to help overthrow Ozai and set his uncle on the throne.
Only, Iroh has one correction to make. He doesn't intend to take the throne. He has done too much damage to expect the world to trust him anymore than his brother. Instead, he wants to put his nephew in charge of the Fire Nation. Iroh only intends to stay on as regent for a couple of years. Now the Gaang must put aside their differences to make sure that Zuko makes it to the end of the war.

Alexandra Bastedo guest stars as "actress" Lola Wells in The Adventurer: Action! (1.13, ITC, 1972); actually she's a member of a sinister, uh.. anti-violence group, who will stop at nothing (not even.. violence..) to get their way
#fave spotting#alexandra bastedo#the champions#sharron macready#the adventurer#action!#itc#classic tv#character actors#the adventurer is a very dumb show‚ ok? in fact that's its saving grace#it's so dumb that it kind of cycles around and becomes charming for it#i mean Mr Gene Bradley‚ world's greatest secret agent and also most famous actor who ever lived who draws a crowd anywhere he goes?#it's absurd. as is the villain's plan this week‚ which is to strike a blow for peace by having Gene Bradley (film star) brainwashed into#assassinating a high ranking american general. who's in the country.. on peace talks? i think? it wasn't clear#or i switched off a little. i mean. it's just. dumb.#but yes lovely Alexandra is part of the deception and she gets to hang around and prod Gene into being a good brainwashee#alas no reunion with her former Champions costar Stuart Damon‚ who'd been fired by this point in production; speaking of which#in my fave spotted post for him i suggested maybe he was fired at Gene Barry's instigation. having now watched the interviews with Damon#and Adventurer costar Catherine Schell on the dvd set i feel confident in saying that is absolutely what happened: Schell backs Damon up#completely‚ supports his story that Barry had him fired bc he was so much taller‚ and also reveals various details about just what a dick#he was. it's honestly worse than i expected: Damon wasn't even told he was fired‚ just kept on contract for weeks as he watched various#guest actors turn up and fill his hastily rewritten part episode by episode. eventually a costume fitter let him know and he was allowed to#leave the production but not to do other work (still being under contract) and although he made some money from the experience it was so#crushing that he almost abandoned acting completely (luckily he later won his part on General Hospital that gave him job security for the#rest of his life). Schell was fired too incidentally‚ lasting longer than Damon‚ but Gene seems to have just hated sharing the limelight#with anyone and eventually had her taken off the series. even Barry Morse‚ a well known Very Nice Man‚ had nothing good to say about#Gene B.... which says a lot. yeesh.#oh but one minor bit of trivia while we're on the subject of assassinations (the ep remember?): for all his many faults as a tv show lead#Gene was also an astute political campaigner and supported the democrats throughout his life with contributions and personal appearances as#well as friendship and advice: he was particularly involved with Bobby Kennedy's campaign and was in fact present at his killing

eSims for Gaza is facing constant eSim shortages.
They get over a thousand requests for connection a day, but their email inbox is regularly sitting at 300-500 eSims. With the bombardment of Rafah and continual internet blackouts, the need for more eSims is particularly urgent.
Even if you have already sent an eSim or donated to an eSim donation drive, there is more you can do. The team is calling for people to campaign in their communities to help spread the word about eSims and encourage donations.
You can help by printing out posters and putting them up in local businesses, on telephone poles and notice boards, or wherever people are likely to see them.

[ID: Poster headed “eSIMs for Gaza” with an illustration of a red poppy, a QR code, and a link to tinyurl.com/gaza-esims; copy reads “Sending eSIMs is an immediate, concrete way to help Gazans on the ground. Scan below to learn how you can get involved.” End ID]
Download color poster (18 x 24")
Download color flyer (8.5 x 11")
Download black and white poster
(For a black and white flyer on A4 / 8.5 x 11" printer paper, just print out the black and white poster: the extra white margin space won't matter.)
Or make your own poster, pamphlet, or protest sign with one of these QR codes:

What do you MEAN you're going to remove one of the most important aspects of Sokka's character arc in the first season? What do you MEAN you're going to remove Sokka unlearning misogyny, accepting change and embracing his role as a fighter and protector of the Avatar in order to end the war? What do you MEAN???

The Dragon-Touched King

Heat
Everything around him was on fire
The flame burned hotter than anything he'd ever felt, but they only threw off the faintest hint of light
Zuko reached out, groping blindly through the darkness. The intense heat was the only thing guiding him. The invisible flames drew closer or farther to show him where he needed to go. Suddenly the ground opened beneath him and he was tumbling down into the vast emptiness.
He landed with a thud on something much softer than the stone far he was expecting. The mound rose and fell rhythmically for a moment. Then it began to rumble and shake. Suddenly, sconces lining the walls flared to life. The light was blinding after so long in darkness, but it only took Zuko's eyes a moment to adjust.
Ran stared down at him, blue scales gleaming in the light. In spite of himself, Zuko trembled. He knew better than to think the dragon would harm him, but the sight of a full grown dragon was always awe inspiring.
How did he get here? Zuko wondered this for the first time since he'd found himself in the cavern with the nearly invisible flames. He had no memory of coming to the Sun Warrior's island, or to Ran and Shaw's cave. It occurred to him that he must be dreaming, but it was too real. He'd felt the scorching heat, Ran's scales shifting beneath his hands, the dragon's hot, moist breath rolling over him, causing his clothes to cling to him damply. If this was a dream, it was his most vivid yet.
Young Fire Lord. Ran's voice rolled through his body, felt rather than heard. Zuko scrambled to his feet and bowed respectfully. He cast around a quick glance for Shaw, but he couldn't see any sign of the tell-tale red.
You have been given a gift.
"Yes," Zuko acknowledged, thinking of the newly hatched dragon that had made itself a comfortable nest in Zuko's bed. "Druk has been a pleasure."
Young dragon is doing well. We see and we are pleased. Ran assured Zuko. But Druk is not the gift I speak of. Zuko's brow furrowed in confusion.
"I'm afraid I don't understand," he said. Ran let out a low rumble that shook the stone walls. It took Zuko a moment to realize he was laughing.
You will understand, Ran promised. Call up your flame. Zuko hesitated. If he was dreaming, and he wasn't entire sure one way or another, he could very well wake up to his bed sheets burning. But Ran fixed him with that unnerving sharp eye, and Zuko felt compelled. He held out his palm and willed a flame to spark. The familiar flame danced to life and flickered for a moment. Then the color changed. The flame got hotter and turned a deep blue. Zuko gasped, but before he could say anything, the color changed several more times. The blue flickered to red, then green, then purple, then it seemed to disappear from view, but Zuko could just make out a distortion where the flame still burned. The heat was as intense as the invisible flames that guided him to the dragon.
What does this mean?" Zuko asked almost to him self.
It is Dragon fire, Ran told him. Dragon-touched Fire Lord. You will lead your people back to true knowledge. You will show them the true mastery of flame. You will return them to true fire bending. Keeper of the dragon fire.
Zuko almost groaned. He understood what Ran was asking of him. It was daunting. He already was leading his people out of war and working to undo a century of dangerous nationalist propaganda. Now he was also being tasked with undoing the same decades' worth of improper fire bending techniques. Terrific.
Show them the true way of dragon fire.

"free palestine," he shouted until his last breath. aaron bushnell, we will never forget you.
as much as bushnell's actions has moved us all, please seek other ways to take actionable measures against the injustices we face in the world. none of us wanted him gone, and the least we can do is prevent another such tragedy by supporting each other in our efforts to enact lasting change.
