If the members of the Gaang were all content creators on YouTube, what would their individual channels be about?
Ooo...so I vaguely remember answering a similar ask like two years ago or something like that. I don't know if that actually happened, or if it was a conversation I was part of, or a really vivid dream. If it is something I've answered before, I will not swear that these are the exact same answers as the first time.
Katara: Foraging. She has a very popular, but very niche channel explaining how to find edible plants in the wild. Her fans joke that she is secretly a doomsday prepper, but in reality she is aware of how fast someone can become food insecure or homeless and her goal is to help at least a few people facing that reality get by.
Sokka: Hunting and gaming. A lot of his YT content is cross posted from his Twitch channel. He does a lot of video game streaming, but on occasion, he'll post video he takes from camping and hunting with his dad. Katara joins occasionally (or he and their father will appear in her videos), but it's mostly something he and his father share. Those hunting videos are rare (like less than 5 posts a year), but they are his most popular videos because of how genuinely sweet he and Hakoda are together.
Toph: I see her being really into drumming in a universe where she has a YT account, so her content would mostly be play alongs, or original works. She might even become another Dave Grohl.
Zuko: I don't see him being a YT personality himself, but he's actually really good at video editing, so he might help Iroh, who has a Mister Rogers style show.
Suki: She has a cult following for her self defense videos. She has a series where she shows women simple moves to incapacitate attackers. One day she invites three women who have survived various situations (domestic abuse, a mugging, encountering a random man in the woods) where they used self defense techniques they learned from Suki, and Suki's channel takes off too the point where she can make YT her full time job.
Aang: he starts off doing reviews of vegan restaurants that's getting decent enough views, but then he veers into more militant vegan content. A lot of his subscribers drop off, but the ones that remain are intensely loyal.

Ok aang not apologizing for the desert is actually what made me actively dislike him. I understand and was also deeply sympathetic to him losing appa and that of course would make anyone stressed out and prone to outburst because they are sad and mad. And i reasoned that its ok for protags to not be the best 100% of the time, its only human . HOWEVER I was also patiently waiting for him to apologize to the 2 girls he made sad by lashing out at them and he never did and that's when i zoned him out as protagonist. My sympathy ended when he refused to acknowledge that HE HURT PEOPLE WHEN THEY WERE TRYING TO HELP! And he was never going to apologize.
That boy was never made to seriously apologize in the entire series. He got close in Bato of the Water Tribe, but then Bryke decided his half attempt was good enough and never mentioned it again. And it was only an apology for hiding Hakoda's letter, and not for any of the other mess he pulled. And that was the last time Aang had to even pretend to self reflect for the rest of the series.

Just a heads up, there are people hate posting about you. They're posting your name in the tag. That might be why you're getting so much hate.
I'm pretty sure the hate came from just one person today. As for people posting about me...I didn't know I was so important to them 🤷🏾‍♀️I can't control who allows me to live rent free in their headspace, and as long as they don't actually come bother me, I couldn't care less. It's honestly giving the same energy as those random Brits who keep trying to randomly start beef with Americans over food. No one asked. No one's think about your shipping preference. Eat your jellied eel, and let me enjoy my cheesesteak in peace.

Zuko finds out Katara was parentified from the age of eight and was a single mom friend of three until he stumbled into the position of gaang dad friend. So when she visits the Fire Nation Zuko dotes on her, making sure her every need is anticipated and catered to. He even goes as far as - to the horror of his council - kneeling to remove her shoes.
Because of this she earns the nickname Lady Katara among the palace staff which she finds amusing but a little confusing. So one day over tea she asks Iroh why they call her that and he explains:
"They're just practicing."
"Why would you need to practice a nickname?"
"Well my dear, they expect that within a few years Fire will preceed it."
And that's about when Katara chokes on her tea.

Genuine question: why do you reply to all the anons hating on you? Wouldn’t it be better to just ignore them? What drives you to respond to each one? Are there ones that you do ignore, and if so, where is the line that you draw?
I don't get to be as mean in real life as I sometimes want to be. Most of the people I interact with who piss me off are either not actually trying to provoke me, or (less often) they're provoking me in a space where I can't let loose on them. When someone deliberately shows me their behind, sometimes I find it therapeutic to kick it. I acknowledge it's not for everyone, though🤷🏾‍♀️

I'm sorry you're receiving so much "anon" hate from some Azutara shippers. I hope you have a nice day.
thank you! I'm good, though. I'm pretty sure it was just the one shipper, and they seemed pretty anxious for some attention, so I hope at least I filled their tank for a while, and they won't bother anyone else any time soon. Either that or they make some good friends in their corner of the fandom.

As someone who does not really vibe with Zutara (mainly because aroace katara is everything to me, and I like some zukka fic), I do not understand why people seem so fucking mad about it? Like, you reblogged one (1) post being slightly negative about Azutara and you got like... 3 hate anons in the span of 15 minutes, and that's just the ones you answered. My respect for you and the ship community at large has just doubled, how do you do it?
Also wanted to send some love your way, because the anons seem rough. I liked the fics of yours I have read, even as someone who doesn't really vibe with romance-centered fiction! You're really good at crafting dialogue, and I love the nuances and subtext in conversations when you write.
First of all, THANK YOU!! I love writing and I love hearing that other people connect with my work. Even if it's not your normal taste, I'm glad that you like it.
Second of all, thank you so much for thinking of me. I'm fine though. I'm mostly amused by that annon. It is hilarious how tight the booty cheeks on some people clench when you call them on their hypocrisy. I didn't even post that in the Azutara tag. That's someone I found posting in the Zutara tag, and I had time for them tonight. Truly, I don't care much what other people ship as long as they keep it cute, keep it classy and keep it over there. But if they do want to stir the pot, they can eat from it, too.

The fact that they keep sending you asks on anon is literally proving your point.....

The only reason people hate on Zutarians is because Bryke basically said that it was okay to. Because we're "delusional" 🙄 and that "we're setting ourselves up to be in toxic relationships"
Imagine saying that to fans today? They would have been canceled so fast, I swear.
It's partly that, and partly the fact that we're the most enduringly popular ship in the fandom, and they can't stand it.

Or maybe it is that dead after all...

Meanwhile, let a Zutara shipper post some disrespect like this in another ship's tag and we'd be the problem, right? It'd be all these antis holding some nonsense like this up as an example of why Zutara shippers are so toxic. Do you not own a mirror, OP? It's so pathetic how thirsty these people are for our attention. It cannot possibly be that dead in the azutara tag.
I really love the contrast between Zutara and Azutara shippers

while i agree with all your points, i tend to give aang some grace for the desert - he lost his best friend, he didn’t know what had happened to appa and he’s also just twelve
but at the same time, i do see your side of it, that isn’t always an excuse, especially when by the end of the show we haven’t been shown any sort of development of his character, we just need to assume he did all the development and he’s now the “wise and fully realised avatar”
The way I see it, this is a fictional story. The main character is fictional. He should have an arc. He does lots of terrible things that never get walked back, and that may be true to life, or whatever, but it doesn't make me root for him. Aang is the hero of the story. The hero is allowed to mess up, sure, but the hero also needs to be called on it and become a better person. Otherwise, what is even the point of telling the story? I like ATLA because I consider it to be more Katara and Zuko's stories than Aang's. He's not a good character. He's not as relevant to the story as he should be. He's just there to move the plot along. I can accept him as a McGuffin, but he will never be the hero in my eyes. If I find it more compelling to steer into his worst traits, blame Bryke. They wrote him that way.

Sarcasm: Dark!Aang is Zuko's dearest friend. He's trying to save him from making a terrible mistake with Katara.
Love your blog!
LOL! I don't think Aang has the focus to be that deliberately manipulative. In this case, he'd absolutely call Zuko a demon lord, and Katara, the naive damsel who fell for his bad boy charms. He takes after his daddies that way

Katara and Zuko's relationship from the first season was integral to the whole show. Even when they were enemies. If you remove that development from the show, the story loses something. Meanwhile, if you remove Aang's moment with Zuko after Pouhai, little is lost. Even that cute call back moment in the Air Temple being removed wouldn't change much. Aang and Zuko are friends because Bryke said they are. Same reason Mai is a good guy, or Katara was always in love with Aang. Very little involving Aang's development or his relationships is important enough to be shown on screen, and as a result, Aang isn't that important to the development of the plot.
What do you think of Zuko and Aang's friendship?
It exists? I don't know...I feel like that one scene after Zuko rescued Aang and Aang asked if they could've been friends in another life is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Don't get me wrong, that was a cute moment, and I like the call back when Zuko joins the Gaang, but aside from that...there isn't much substance there. I've said it before, but I don't think Aang was a particularly good friend to anyone. He got way more support than he ever gave, and I don't understand this idea that Aang was somehow Zuko's best friend. I know the bar is low, but dang...

How is Aang a terrible friend? Genuine question. I know he’s a mess in regards to katara and his family, but I never heard anything about him and his friends
There isn't much to hear about him and his friends, is there? He's friendly and likable and that gets him surrounded by friends who themselves are selfless and brave. That makes him look pretty good by association, but the deep, character shaping moments he's a part of are to his benefit. He has all these great friends to turn when he needs them, but who turns to him when they need comfort? The strongest showing I can think of that he had as a friend was sneaking to teach Katara waterbending when she was refused. That lasted right up until he was confronted by Pakku. Then Katara stood up to Pakku and called him on his stupidity, and Aang instead of standing ten toes down for his friend told Pakku she didn't mean it. Like consummate people pleaser he is. Katara fought that battle alone.
Let's not forget the way he literally blew up at his friends in the desert when Appa was kidnapped. Don't get me wrong, his being upset was completely understandable, but a good friend would apologize for that. Toph especially didn't deserve that for him, and she never gets an apology.
Aang is a terrible friend for the same reason he's a terrible partner and father. He's selfish. He receives way more than he gives. Yeah, he's cheerful and fun to be around, but that doesn't make him a good friend. Toph is a better friend, and she hardly gets any of her own story on screen.

This is so true! At least Fire Lady Katara gets to have her hands in global policy. She gets to be part of rebuilding and establishing reparations from the Fire Nation to the rest of the world. She gets to debate with world leaders and create programs to help the disenfranchised and marginalized. Yes, Fire Lady Katara is a purely fanon concept, and the limits to what she can do are only that of whoever happens to be writing any particular story. But in canon, we barely hear from Katara.
In canon, Katara isn't even present for the trial banning bloodbending, that she apparently championed. In canon, we don't get to see Katara getting her dues as a respected elder of the SWT. We don't get to see her healing Korra-even though healing was apparently her life's work. We don't even get to see Katara having a deep, strong relationship with her children and grandchildren. So when someone says to me that they don't like Fire Lady Katara as a concept because she wouldn't have any freedom, I have to ask how they interpreted her canon fate. Because it doesn't look like her life was much freer as Aang's wife than they think it would've been as Zuko's wife.
Nothing about Ka/taang precludes Katara being Chief of the SWT…
which is why it pisses me off even more that Katara didn’t get to have a role of any political importance whatsoever. It wouldn’t change anything about LOK’s storyline, and it would be fully in line with her character.
There’s a common anti-Zutara argument that Katara wouldn’t want to be Fire Lady, because she would want to rebuild and lead her own culture. I am sympathetic to that. Based on her canon characteristics, she might want to be a United Republic Councilwoman, Chief of the SWT, or just generally the Waterbending Master / Matriarch of the her tribe, which would be easier (though not impossible) if she weren’t married to the sovereign of another nation — I get that.
but the thing is…she didn’t get to do any of that, even though “wife of the Avatar” doesn’t contradict those roles. All the things that would be difficult for her to do if she were married to Zuko, she still didn’t get to do as Aang’s wife. She didn’t get to have a career the way her husband, or her brother, or her friends did.
so it’s extra hypocritical when Ka/taang shippers are like “but being Fire Lady would disempower Katara!” when Ka/taang canonically disempowered her! And KA fans are fine with that: they bend over backwards to justify why Katara doesn’t have a statue, or why she wasn’t there to protect Korra from the Red Lotus, or why she wasn’t at Yakone’s bloodbending trial. Yeah she got to live in the SWT — eventually, I assume, because in the comics she just follows Aang around — but what else did she get to do? Fucking nothing, apparently. Because to some people, the greatest honour for a woman is to be the hero’s wife.
