So... Episode 3 of The Devil Judge... let's get into it! I wrote a page of notes, this episode had a lot to offer. But before we get into it, let's just recap on the ending of episode 2... cauuussseeee
I was watching the UST confrontation, thinking they were going to bang against the windows. I'm minding my own business, just admiring the cinematography - as they had bisexual lighting throughout -
Tumblr media
(I can only watch it in the worst quality lol)
Then shit blew up! And they're saving each other like all angsty vampy boyfriends do.
Tumblr media
(he should have carried him bridal style... just sayin')
Then we get into episode 3. Which has all of the marks of every Forced Proximity Yaoi story ever! Even includes non-consensual touching and one character (usually the younger) not being allowed to leave or move around their surroundings freely... which is... fun. "It's not like I want to do it" sure, Jan. (also, they keep mentioning their age gap, I think they're into it.....)
Tumblr media
This leads to Gaon's Belle arc of discovering what's in the west wing. (The house's decor is super... not my taste). The Nanny/mother step-in character reminds me of Bae Hae Sun's character in Hotel De Luna (Choi Seo Hee). Daddy Bandit is super possessive over his new twink, even going as far as almost shouting "ARE YOU DATING?" to Soo Hyun. super suss. Sun A thinks she's hot. She really had her "step on me, Mummy" glow up and I respect that. Kyung Hee is surrounded by idiotic men BUT that does lead us to her house which is Han Ki Hwan's house!!! I was so happy when I saw it then I felt so sad because... it's where the rich boys go to get emotionally (sometimes physically) abused by their parent. This house is also featured in Stranger and every time there was a scene in THE living room, I kept saying out loud: "that's where Han Joo Won got his heart broken" or "some very sad things happened here" or "NOOO joo won... DONG SIIIIIKKK"... I am pathetic and annoying. (Also, I think the derelict sight is the same location where they shot Lee Sang Yeob's death scene) I will say I like the way TDJ is handling the dystopia themes. It feels very realistic and it isn't too glamourised, which a lot of movies/TV shows do. So, that's a really nice aspect of the show. The court scene is actually kind of funny (not in a bad way)
Tumblr media
Trauma Bandit's backstory is definitely a child abuse 101 storyline, even includes a shitty reason for his awful treatment. (the dad is a right twat). I haven't paid too much attention to the older brother storyline but if he and Gaon are related, I'll be pissed. It's an odd thing to include considering Daddy Bandit and Gaon are going to fuck. There's no doubt in my mind that they're going to have sex. And even if we don't see it, it's still happening! Oh, and... just because you're traumatised, it doesn't give you the right to murder people, Daddy Bandit. Anyway, speak soon!! :)
[cue circus music]
episode 02 ending & episode 3. ah yes, the banes of my existence (:
I was watching the UST confrontation, thinking they were going to bang against the windows.
HELPP the UST was blasting through the roof. I honestly loved how they introduced two female leads, starting off with the implication that they're the very possible romantic counterparts and then dunked the whole show into homoerotism and UST.
just admiring the cinematography - as they had bisexual lighting throughout -
listen, the cinematography? it was out of the fucking world. honestly perspective changes, camera tilts that captures imbalance (whether emotional or power) and the f r a m e s. honestly so capturing.
the b i s e x u a l l i g h t i n g (screams)
(I can only watch it in the worst quality lol)
oof help is it netflix 😭
Then shit blew up! And they're saving each other like all angsty vampy boyfriends do.
KJERDXEFKDCX ANGSTY VAMPY BOYFRIENDS Yohan looks very much like some modern Count Dracula --its the bow me thinks
(he should have carried him bridal style... just sayin')
dsjksjdjk perhaps because gaon's taller than him and trauma bandit's but a smol man
Which has all of the marks of every Forced Proximity Yaoi story ever!
the way i did not realise that until now. ohmygod
Even includes non-consensual touching and one character (usually the younger) not being allowed to leave or move around their surroundings freely... which is... fun.
I also do think that the Nurse/Patient trope (which I'm basing off of Back to The Future, but for all I know could be absolutely rare af) is depicted here. Usually in the trope, the nurse and patient are shown to be more susceptible to have feelings due to sympathy and forced proximity (+ if the patient has some incredibly heroic/awing reason for being injured). I think Beauty and the Beast, you've mentioned Gaon's Bella Arc, also features the nurse/patient trope when the Prince/Beast gets attacked trying to save Bella from the wolves.
It is interesting though, that it should be Gaon who's injured and nursed back to life when we have Yohan, who's the primary choice for the Beast/Prince.
(also, they keep mentioning their age gap, I think they're into it.....)
at this point, watching TDJ is just a progression of kink reveals lmao
This leads to Gaon's Belle arc of discovering what's in the west wing. (The house's decor is super... not my taste).
Continuing from before, it's quite interesting that their dynamics are not set in stone. They frequently exchange roles, albeit most of the time it's not prominent.
Also, if we set apart the BATB trope, Gaon's totally the knight in shining armor even if Daddy Bandit denies it (the house.... it's something alright)
The Nanny/mother step-in character reminds me of Bae Hae Sun's character in Hotel De Luna (Choi Seo Hee).
ah i havent really watched Hotel De Luna, i'm putting it off becuz i heard that there's some real sad stuff but I can see the similarities in their character presentation
Daddy Bandit is super possessive over his new twink, even going as far as almost shouting "ARE YOU DATING?" to Soo Hyun. super suss.
my dude's just totally in over his head thinking he's very chill but just a walking talking emotional disaster
on a serious note though, i think he's more than aware of soohyun's friendship with gaon and it was a deliberate poke to dissuade her (or perhaps, in an emotionally/possessive sense to sting her?)
Sun A thinks she's hot. She really had her "step on me, Mummy" glow up and I respect that.
Jung Sun Ah is just a total badass and if I ever meet her I would run far far away 😂
...her house which is Han Ki Hwan's house!!! I was so happy when I saw it then I felt so sad because... it's where the rich boys go to get emotionally (sometimes physically) abused by their parent.
WAIT HELP I DID NOT NOTICE THAT IREFDJKSDJK tbf i was more focused in practicing imaginary archery on han kihwan
"that's where Han Joo Won got his heart broken" or "some very sad things happened here" or "NOOO joo won... DONG SIIIIIKKK"... I am pathetic and annoying.
EJDKEISDJK LMAO "some very sad things happened here" -- some miserable real estate agent of an haunted house, probably
"I am pathetic and annoying" ah yes the self realisation /t no but i have had this same exact thought when i paused the show for the zillionth time to explain the significance of the fucking rain to my friend
Also, I think the derelict sight is the same location where they shot Lee Sang Yeob's death scene
oooh interesting, i wonder how many shooting locations BE and TDJ share hmm
I will say I like the way TDJ is handling the dystopia themes. It feels very realistic and it isn't too glamourised, which a lot of movies/TV shows do. So, that's a really nice aspect of the show.
right?? i honestly adore that it's pretty much covering the escalating socio-political and economic crisis under the dystopian theme? it also feels very much a commentary on the contemporary issues of the world. along with that, in episode one there's a shot with the word "utopia" that reminded me of this book (i haven't read it but i know of the premise) "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas". It talks of an utopian society that has built itself upon the suffering of a single child. For the society to prosper the child must be suffer. To my knowledge, the Snowpiercer (the film) and BTS's "Spring Day" are based on it thematically.
The court scene is actually kind of funny (not in a bad way)
yeah no i fucking cackled at that scene
Trauma Bandit's backstory is definitely a child abuse 101 storyline, even includes a shitty reason for his awful treatment. (the dad is a right twat)
the dad's a right bastard
but if he and Gaon are related, I'll be pissed.
Dude (gender neutral) I was flabbergasted when they went "Oh Yohan's big brother actually looks exactly like Gaon :D" like??? During Ep 1 flashbacks, I honestly expected them to go with an amnesiac route (where Gaon forgets about Yohan) or maybe "found comfort/helped each other during this tragedy for one day and then became nameless strangers again" route but noooo they had to go with the "ah yes this possible romantic option who is is identical to mc's brother" i blame the bloody censor
There's no doubt in my mind that they're going to have sex. And even if we don't see it, it's still happening!
there's so much off-screen gaps that the possibility of it not happening is lower than zero
Oh, and... just because you're traumatised, it doesn't give you the right to murder people, Daddy Bandit.
Man's just so morally tilted lmao, but ahem, I heard that you liked morally grey characters [blinks]
I really enjoyed this update heh, your brain is just. galaxy and i can't wait to see more of your thoughts hehe

It's the weekend which means I am done with another binge-watch K-Drama session and ready to embark on a new review journey. This week it was Start Up!
Tumblr media
I've seen quite a few people bashing this drama but I personally really enjoyed it.
From the production to the actors and plot this drama is everything I have been searching for.
I personally am a sucker for office-style romantic comedies and I was looking for one where the FL is the CEO as opposed to the ML being the CEO and this drama was suggested to me multiple times.
It took me some time to "get into the mood" for it, but once I did I got to enjoy three days' worth of laughter, tears and butterflies! If you're anything like me - enjoy cheesy rom-coms, amazing friendship dynamics, character development, internal conflicts and learning something new, then I suggest giving Start Up a go.
Tumblr media
I really like dramas that have educational bits and bobs in them and similarly to Suspicious Partner, this drama had small explainers throughout on business, investing and start up terminology which I found very educational. In addition, if you have no idea how start ups work, then this looks like a fun introduction. Plus, I really enjoyed how each episode had a theme related to the process of opening a start up, which also tied in with the whole storyline of the series (character development, relationships, what events may take place etc.).
I also wanted to give a separate shout-out to the director and production team.
I managed to cry nearly in every episode including the first. I never had such a strong emotional connection to a drama before, but I think the storyline was so greatly developed and the actors were able to portray that storyline so well that viewers could emotionally connect with them, feel what the characters felt and let their emotions go wild!
Okay, SPOILER-FREE review over, let's get into the good stuff!
Tumblr media
This drama was my introduction to the wonderful Bae Su-zy who is considered to be Korea's Sweatheart and oh boy do I see why now!
She embraced her character so well and was able to portray an amazing Seo Dal-Mi and one I could relate to. A girl in her mid-20's who doesn't really know what she wants to do and is stuck fantasizing about a boy she wrote letters to 15 years ago who she never met turns into an astounding woman, who is strong, confident and inspirational.
The amount of character development she alone goes through from doing things just to win in a battle against her sister to actually having a goal that is for the greater good and not for a petty vendetta.
I also really liked that this drama highlighted the fact that you do not need to have a university degree to succeed in life, however, if you do not, people will judge you and think you are "stupid" or "not worth it". Higher education is ridiculously expensive and not everyone can afford it - that's why start ups and small businesses exist - to give people a chance to succeed. Which Dal-Mi did :)
Tumblr media
Nam Joo-Hyuk portrayed a great ML. Nam Do-San was just perfect.
I really enjoyed that for the first time in a long time we had a ML in a drama who was sincerely interested in the FL and did not try to hide it (unlike our second ML Mr. Han Ji-Pyeong who when questioned whethere he like Dal-Mi said no).
Yes, he was a little bit of a geek but his geekiness made him so innocent and pure that he brought me pure joy. You could see his actions were reflecting his good intentions and even though they might not have been the right path at times, he was such a pure soul I wanted to protect at all costs.
It became quite clear from the very beginning that Dal-Mi and Do-San would end up together at the end and honestly I did not mind that. I oftentimes hate love triangles, just because the second ML usually gets dumped, left behind all by themselves (which was sort of the case with this drama), but Ji-Pyeong annoyed me a little so I was a hardcore Dal-Mi x Do-San shipper.
Tumblr media
Ji-Pyeong was portrayed by Kim Seon-Ho who I think did a great job of playing a lost and lovestruck man who doesn't really know what family means or how to express his emotions. By the choice of my words, it becomes quite clear that I was not the biggest Ji-Pyeong fan, but I can excuse a big part of his actions on the fact that he grew up at an orphanage and never knew what family meant.
I mean, this guy lived with Dal-Mi's grandmother for like a year, made a ton of money, left for Seoul and just disappeared? Who does that?
Personally, it feels like pure disrespect to the person who took you in and I was very happy to see him integrate into Dal-Mi's family later on in the series (I was also really rooting for him to end up with Dal-Mi's older sister In-Jae just because it made more sense for him to end up with her - they were both older, ambitious, successful... and well, lonely - match made in heaven if you ask me!)
Another thing that really bugged me about Ji-Pyeong was his lack of balls. Let me explain; Ji-Pyeong was way older than Dal-Mi and Do-San. While Do-San was in San Francisco for three years, Ji-Pyeong did not get the courage to just ask Dal-Mi out. I mean he made his feelings clear, she shot him down once, and he just sat back and watched her hoping Do-San will never return back to Korea. Again, who does that? This man had so many chances to just get the girl of his dreams and he lost them all. Then, when he saw that he was going to lose to Do-San when he came back from SF he decided to play it dirty by lying that he was dating Dal-Mi. God this man bugs me. He did end up calling Dal-Mi and telling her the whole truth like a minute later but still... ugh.
Because of his actions though, we can see he is kind. And I am happy to see him finally let go by the end of the series. It's refreshing and shows growth and I am really hoping he finds his person later on.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to give a special shout out to Seo In-Jae, Dal-Mi's older sister portrayed by Kang Han-na.
Honestly, I first couldn't understand how a child could just so coldly turn their back on their own father, who only wanted the best for them and leave without calling, even change her last name to her step-fathers.
I mean she was a stone-cold **** and I hated her throughout the show. Even after when Dal-Mi was let go from SamSang Tech when it was acquired by 2STO and you could see In-Jae felt bad for her sister she did not offer any help. Just advice which was delivered in such a harsh manner, maybe it would have been best to say nothing at all?
I have a lot of pride, so if I were in Dal-Mi's situation would I have been able to go for a job interview at my sister's company, who was hiring, knew I was in trouble and did not offer help? Probably not. But I guess this is what the drama tried to show us - that maybe sometimes it's best to step down from that pride pedestal and choose your battles wisely. If Dal-Mi would have never joined In-Jae's company, they would have never made up.
Granted In-Jae did go through quite a lot but I really wish we saw her character development earlier on in the drama and not just in the last few episodes.
Tumblr media
I also wanted to mention the friendship dynamics represented in this drama because they were so good!
I never had such a close group of friends like Do-San did and I would kill to have even half of what he has in the drama. Their friendship is so strong and you can see them supporting each other no matter what.
Inside jokes and the way they act with one another were also so realistic, it seemed like the actors themselves had fun shooting their friendship scenes.
And of course family!
The drama is big on family and children-parent relationships.
Tumblr media
First, we have Dal-Mi's family which fell apart when she was in her early teens.
She and her sister stopped talking pretty soon, her mum was not present and her father passed away early on so she was brought up by her grandmother. We can see how much admiration Dal-Mi has for her grandmother, how much she cherishes her and cares for her.
We can see how her grandmother is trying to mend and bring their family back together by accepting back Dal-Mi's mother who left Dal-Mi's father in one of the worst ways possible.
I think this drama did a great job at representing women as the head of the family, which is so important (even when it came to Do-San's family you could see his father "had the upper hand" but his mother controlled it).
Tumblr media
Then, we have Ji-Pyeong, an orphan who doesn't know what family is but so desperately longs for it and loses it only to regain it again.
I think his storyline was pretty great and contrasted with Dal-Mi's perfectly.
Tumblr media
And finally, we have Do-San, an only child - the son, who made it his life's goal to please and make his father proud but kept failing.
His failures built up this fear inside of him which stopped him from telling his parents the truth.
I think the part where Do-San tells his father that they should no longer strive to be each others' pride was a key development in their relationship.
I also really enjoyed all the parts where Do-San asked his parents for dating advice, which, if I am not mistaken, came only after the pride conversation he had with his dad.

Do You Like Brahms? (Ongoing Review)
Do You Like Brahms? Ongoing Review Cast : Kim Min Jae, Park Eun Bin, Kim Sung Cheol, Lee You Jin, Park Ji Hyun, and Bae Da Bin Streaming Platform: KOCOWA (also can watch it for free on many other websites) Year: 2020 ( ongoing)
Note: I will not be talking about any cons in this review because the show is still in its early stages and much of what I initially perceive as cons may actually end up being pros with plot development towards the end of the show :) Actors’ Background: Last weekend, I was watching some episodes from a show called “Tempted” aka” The Great Seductress”. Tempted isn’t really a great show and it gave me major Gossip Girl vibes, but I really liked the character Lee Se-joo and the actor who played him was Kim Min Jae. After doing a quick Wikipedia search, I was surprised to know that Kim Min Jae( despite also being a college student) is quite the accomplished actor with supporting roles in hit dramas like Dr. Romantic, Dr. Romantic 2, and Guardian: The Great and Lonely God. Do You Like Brahms is his second time playing a leading role in a drama.
The female lead, Park Eun Bin is also a pretty accomplished actress, who’s acted in dramas like Operation Proposal, Hello, My Twenties (Netflix), and her most successful drama so far has been the drama Hot Stove League (2019-2020).
Fun facts about the two lead actors is that Kim Min Jae played a cameo role in the 2014 drama Producers, which starred Kim Soo Hyun ( Its Okay to Not Be Okay) and he shared screen space with Woo Do Hwan ( The King: Eternal Monarch) in Tempted, and Do Hwan acted in drama called Save Me with Seo Ye Ji ( Its Okay to Not be Okay). In addition, Park Eun Bin acted in Hot Stove League with Oh Jung Se ( also starred in Its Okay to Not Be Okay). Synopsis : Do You Like Brahms? is a drama set against the backdrop of the field of classical music in Korea. The story revolves around two protagonists Park Joon Young, a talented piano prodigy, who’s won numerous accolades at various global piano competitions, and Chae Song Ah, a business major who decided to repeat four years of undergrad to major in violin. Their stories intersect when Joon Young decides to return to Korea for a sabbatical after his successful North American tour and Song Ah chooses to take an internship at the Kyunghoo Cultural Foundation, the same foundation which offered its first scholarship to Joon Young to help support his musical studies. The growing relationship between the two characters and the conflicts that they face with their friends and families as they struggle to succeed professionally, but also personally forms the crux of the plot.
The title of the drama Do You Like Brahms? has a lot of significance to the actual plot of the show. Johannes Brahms was an accomplished German composer and the most famous story about this personal life is his unwavering love for Clara Schuman, the wife of another famous composer, Robert Schuman. The title is significant in the drama because Brahms is the only composer that Joon Young outright refuses to play, but also because both Joon Young’s life and to a certain extent Song Ah’s as well parallel Brahms’ own life.
Tumblr media
Pros: Foil and Theme : I guess this isn’t really a pro about the show, but from a literary analysis perspective, it's really interesting to see how the characters are developed to be a foil to each other. For those of you who may not know what foil means, Foil is basically this literary concept, where one character directly contrasts another character. From the way I’ve analyzed the show, I strongly believe that Joon Young and Song Ah contrast each other in many significant ways, but it's interesting because their lives also parallel each other at the same time. They are diametrically different in the sense that Joon Young is this amazingly talented pianist, but for Joon Young, playing piano has been a source of oppression and burden.
Joon Young only competed in competitions because the prize money was the only way he could support his financially struggling family. While many argue that Joon Young’s career is nearing the beginning of its end, no one questions his brilliance or his right to call himself a musician. On the other hand, Song Ah loves playing violin for the sake of playing violin, but she’s nowhere close to being considered talented by any societal standard. She’s last chair ( in orchestra, the best string players are seated closer to the front and worst towards the back) and she’s also last in her class. Many of her friends, peers, and family are bewildered by the fact that she threw away a Business degree to pursue a passion that she’s only somewhat decent at.
I think this contrast between Joon Young and Song Ah really forms the basis of a fundamental question that this drama raises- Should we pursue what we love or what we’re good at?  I think this question is really significant, especially because we live in a hyper capitalistic society, where I think we’re obsessed about competing amongst each other and becoming the best at what we do, so that we appear as desirable candidates on the market. But, in order to have a truly meaningful life, should we pursue what truly brings us happiness and joy even if it means we’ll always be considered average and we won’t receive the accolades and promotions that come with professional advancement.
Realistic and Nuanced Acting : A common problem that arises when you’re doing any type of drama based on playing an instrument is that very often a show will show an instrument being played the wrong way, or will rely on professional musicians as body doubles to play the instrument. As someone who played violin from the ages of 11-17, I can confirm that this drama does such a good job highlighting all the nuances that come with playing the violin, whether it be tuning your instrument , your string breaking, or even rubbing rosin against your bow, and even the sentiment surrounding being last chair in orchestra was really nice to see because you know the show writers really did their research when they decided to write the script for the drama. Also, major shout out to Park Eun Bin for her vibrato technique and I guess it helps that she played violin at the college level. Same goes for Kim Min Jae, who also knows how to play piano. Fun fact about the show is that many of the pieces played by the characters in the show were actually played by the actors themselves and they spent a considerable amount of time brushing up on their skills to play some pretty complicated pieces.

Chemistry & Depiction of Relationships: If the chemistry between Ko Mun Yeong and Moon Gang Tae from Its Okay to Not Be Okay could be described as a combustion reaction, the relationship between Song Ah and Joon Young is like a beautiful yet slow recrystallization happening right in front of your eyes. There’s something fulfilling and wholesome about both of these relationships, but I think that Song Ah and Joon Young’s relationship is something that we all can relate and aspire to.
I really get a lot of flack from my friends for my use of this term, but I truly value “organic relationships”. I consider organic relationships to be the type of relationships that form spontaneously. Organic relationships are the relationships that you start to form because you kept running into this person on your way to your Organic Chemistry class and one day, you decide to hold the door for them cause you’re nice and before you know it, it turns out that next semester, you’re both in the same Cell Biology class and decide to be lab partners and before you know it, you’re besties.
Organic relationships that happen simply happen because they happen and there’s no intention by either of the two parties of how this relationship is gonna turn out. I really like how Song Ah and Joon Young meet randomly and start out with just saying hi to each other and then they slowly transition to becoming friends before becoming a couple and all three phases are beautifully shown. I love how in every part of this process, they respect each other’s boundaries and openly acknowledge their feelings when they’re together. They also practice active listening with no judging or unnecessary advice. But, also, like normal people in relationships, they stumble and deal with awkwardness, arguments, and regrets, but they navigate these obstacles in a healthy manner.
I also love the chemistry between the two leads. I especially love how Joon Young's eyes seem to light up every single time he sees Song Ah and how Song Ah giggles and smiles just a little bit more than she usually does when she sees Joon Young.

~Can You Promise?~ Pt 1
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Come on Chun-Hei, can't I just move in with you?" I begged.
"As much as I would love to, I already have an idiot brother and a Jimmy living with me. So like, no." I rolled my eyes and let out a sigh.
"I'm just nervous, now I have to meet with the woman who owns the apartment."
"Where are you meeting her?" She asked.
"At the cafe, I figured it would make me feel better to meet somewhere I'm comfortable." I said.
"That's smart, no Jimmy, you can't go with her to her interview. I'll call you later Jinnie, call me when you've finished." I said goodbye and hung up the phone, slipping it into my back pocket.
I nervously played with the hem of my shirt as I opened the door to the cafe that I've come to call a second home. I skipped over to the counter and smiled up at Mi-Sun.
"Ah Jin-Hee, are you here for your interview?" She asked. I let out a sigh before nodding.
"Yes, and I'm really nervous. I need this apartment, but what if she doesn't like me? I don't want to have to live with Jinyoung for the rest of my life." I whined.
Minmin laughed as she placed and Iced Coffee on the counter in front of me. She leaned forward and rested her elbows on the counter.
"Don't worry, you'll do great." She assured me. I smiled as she ruffled my hair slightly.
"Thanks, Unnie, I'm going to sit down." I grabbed my coffee and moved over to the booth by the door.
I lifted my cup ad put the straw in my mouth, taking a sip. I can't believe that I finally get to start college. After everything that happened, I never thought that I would make it to this point. Jinyoung has tried everything he can to help me, my entire family has.
But, I think now I'm ready to try and do it on my own. So that's why I figured it was time to move into the apartment. It's close to the college and close to the cafe. And Mi-Sun is understanding enough to work around my college hours.
I really hope that this all works, I don't want to have to depend on my family again I've done that enough in this life. I heard the door chime as it opened, someone just came inside.
It was an older woman, her elegance was unmatched. Her long black hair flowed naturally down her back and bounced as she walked. A long brown coat covered most of her body and you could see the bottom hem of her black dress. Black heels clicked on the floor as she walked up to the counter.
"Excuse me, you wouldn't happen to know a Bae Jin-Hee, would you?" She asked Mi-Sun. She peeked over at me and nodded.
"Hi, you must be Kim Hyo-Joo. My name is Bae Jin-Hee." I greeted bowing slightly. She smiled and walked over to me.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you. You're so much prettier then I imagined." I blushed slightly at her comment.
She was beautiful, it was hard for me to believe that she wasn't thirty. Light, natural makeup highlighted her natural features. Her eyes were a deep brown color and crinkled at the sides as she smiled.
"Thank you, uh, please, sit. Would you like anything to drink?" I asked.
"No that is quite all right. I would just like to get to know you better." I nodded and awkwardly sat across from her.
"So tell me, do you have a job?" She asked.
"Yes uh, I actually work here." She laughed softly.
"I see, so that is why you asked to meet here. This place is cute, it suites you. And you are planning on attending the University of Yeongu. I am getting a major in English with a minor in photography."
"That is quite amazing. Now, this place that I am offering, four people already live there. My own child being one of them, you rent wouldn't be too expensive, I understand that you work hard and with being in college you won't be able to work many hours. Everything will be provided for you, except for your personal needs. And you would be able to move in as soon as it is convenient for you. Do you have any questions about anything?" She asked.
"Um, a few. If four people already live in the apartment, why do you need someone else?" I asked.
"Well, those kids tend to get a little hot-headed. It almost feels like I'm raising children all over again. It would be nice to have someone like you move in. And I know that it's hard to find a place where you can stay. Especially on such short notice." She explained.
"The ones that already live there, do they go to college?"
"Yes, three of them actually attend the same college as you, and the youngest still attends high school."
"Ah, I, I don't think I have anything else." I said.
"Perfect, you still have my number, so I will call you once everything is ready. Do you need help moving your things?" She asked as she stood up.
"No, I shouldn't have any problems." I said. I quickly stood up and bowed again. "Thank you."
"Of course dear, we will be in contact soon." She spun around and exited the shop before I could even say anything else.
I was still a little confused about what just happened I stood up and walked over to MInmin. She laughed and she leaned over the counter.
"So, that was easy." She said.
"Right? I feel like it was a little too easy." I mumbled.
"Who cares, you got the room. You should go home now and celebrate." She quickly ushered the out of the building.
I couldn't help but smile as I began my trek home. I can't believe that actually agreed to let me move in. But, moving in with four other girls, is that really a good idea? I hope they're nice. She said that one of them was her daughter, and that three of them attend the same school as I do.
This could be fairly interesting. I turned onto my road and skipped down the rest of the street. I opened the front door and cheered loudly.
"I'm home!" I slipped off my shoes and put my slippers on my feet.
I went into the kitchen where my mother was working on dinner.
"There you are dear, so tell me, how did it go?" She asked turning to me. I smiled and jumped up so I was sitting on the counter.
"It went great. She said I could move in as soon as possible. But, there was something strange about her."
"What do you mean?" She asked handing me an apple.
"Well, she said that four people already live in the apartment, and one of them is her daughter. And three of them are attending the same school as me."
"Hmm, if four people already live in the apartment why would they need one more person?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders.
"That was my same thought. But, it's a nice place and it's close to school. It won't be so bad. I just hope the girls are nice." I mumbled taking a bite of my apple.
"I'm sure they are. Now, go finish packing. Your brother can help you move the big stuff. Call Min-Hyuk and Jimmy, ask them if they can help." I nodded and leaned over, placing a chaste kiss on her cheek.
"I will, I love you." I ran to my bedroom and stood in the center of the room, looking around.
"Hmm, how am I going to do this?" I asked myself.
I opened my closet and began to take everything off of the hangers. I placed them on my bed and began to fold them up.
"Hey, mom told me you got the place, congrats." I looked up when I heard my brother's voice.
Jinyoung stood in the doorway of my room, leaning against the frame. His arms were crossed over his chest and he smiled at me.
"Yeah, I'm moving in the day after tomorrow. You don't mind helping me do you?" I asked. He chuckled and walked into the room.
"Of course I will, have you called the other two losers yet?" He asked. I shook my head and stood up.
"Not yet, I was going to do that tonight. You don't think they would mind do you?" He scoffed and mumbled something under his breath.
"What did you say?" I asked. He chuckled and ruffled my hair.
"Nothing. I don't think they would mind helping. Especially Min-Hyuk, not like he has anything better to do." He chuckled as he walked out of the room
I looked after him confused. What does that mean? I didn't have time to think about it when my phone began ringing. I pulled it out of m pocket and smiled when I saw Jimmy's name.
"Jimjim, I was just about to all Min-Hyuk." I laughed.
"Yeah, well I'm more important. So, how did the interview go?" He asked.
"Good, I got the place and am moving in the day after tomorrow. Do you think you and Min-Hyuk can help me move in?" I asked sweetly.
"Of course I'll help! I don't know about grouchy pants over there he's being lame."
"Is he now? Am I gonna have to come over and sit on him again?" I asked.
"Do it and I'll kill you." I heard him call.
"Bring it on loser." I laughed. I couldn't see him, but I could tell that he was rolling his eyes.
"We'll be over to help you, don't mind him" Jimmy laughed.
"I'll buy dinner for you guys helping me."
"Free food? I'm in!" Chun-Hei shouted.
"You would be involved if there's food." That's my best friend. One hundred percent food motivated.
"I really appreciate you guys. Thank you for helping me."
"Of course, you know we'll always be here for you." Jimmy said
"Now hang up so she can finish packing." I hard Min-Hyuk snap.
"Jeez you old man, quit being grumpy." Everyone said goodbye and tossed the phone onto my bed.
I turned back around and looked around. Well, it's finally time to start life on my own. And I'm really excited.
a little insight into the past;;
Tumblr media
Premise: Before Lyra was Lyra--she was Krystal Bae Joo-eun, one of the youngest children in her rich family, and a waitress just for fun at LUMIN8. At least, until something sinister set her eyes onto the sweet, bubbly young girl for a talent she never knew she had.
Word Count:
Character Appearances: The mysterious figure, her boyfriend, her older sister
Scenario: Krystal Bae has just finished her last night shift at LUMIN8, when 8 stocky and buff men, armed with metal bats and knives attempt to pull her into a van. She tries fighting back, but eventually succumbs, and thus begins the INFAMOUS COLD CASE OF THE MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF KRYSTAL BAE JOO-EUN
Trigger Warning: Blood, Gore etc.
NOTE: There are some details for her case within this self-para, so police officers, detectives, please take note! Some of these things like the crime scene will be open knowledge, due to her disappearance having been made a case at the MPD, as well as being broadcast in an attempt to find the lost girl. Most of the gangs would have known that someone had disappeared on their turfs, without knowledge, without any prior warning, and that the people that did this had NO AFFILIATION to any of the other gangs.
Things that are OPEN KNOWLEDGE will be BOLD AND ITALICIZED, things that only the POLICE know will be BOLD.
....
It all begins with an typical end of a night shift at LUMIN8. Krystal, otherwise and more familiarly known as Joo-eun, never understood why people didn’t like being waitresses. Everyone was just so sociable, so--fun to be around. The cheerful, bubbly and extremely social but tall butterfly chuckled to herself lightly as she waves cheerily at LUMIN8′s manager, a butterfly clip holding up her ponytailed hair, and a bag loosely slung over her shoulder.
Her phone rings, and a beaming smile spreads across her pretty face at the sight of the familiar number as she begins her familiar walk down the street and back to her home.
“Unnie, I’m already on the way home, and no--I don’t need you to come down and chauffeur me back home! I’m eighteen, not five, and I can take care of myself just fine. I brought a pepper spray just like you told me to.”  There was a beat of a pause, before a loud huff came from her lips. “ And no of course not, I didn’t take the gun. Wasn’t me. Mhm. Mhm.” The familiar glaze of someone who has heard things repeated one too many times casts over her pretty eyes, the phone lazily pressed against her ear as the buzz of phone chatter from the other end flickered through occasionally as she rummaged her bag. “ Yeah, okay, I got it. Unnie, I’ve got another phone call coming in, I’ll call you back later! And don’t worry, I love you too--” She peppered kisses at the end of the phone with a giggle, before hanging up, her fingers flying over the touch screen of the phone, sending a sweet message to her boyfriend quickly.
{text to »»—♡ the love of my life} hey--i just got off work! wanna come over to my place? i promise that my unnie won’t kill you.
The message flickered for a moment, before a sent sign showed up at the bottom of the i-message, a sweet but satisfied smile flickering gently over Joo-eun’s face.
“Come on, come on. Read the message!” She pouted, almost glaring at the unread status on her phone, before visibly deflating.
Guess she held her hopes tonight just a little too high, huh? Nothing much that was really fun or exciting. A grumbly huff escapes from her lips as she stashes the phone into the pocket of her blue jeans, half of her grey sweater hanging out of the red leather backpack she had slung carelessly in the most inappropriate way of carrying a backpack. Her white converse sneakers squeaked against the ground just as she turned around the corner to take a shortcut through a dark alley back to her house just a few blocks down. Krystal bit down nervously on her lip, scuffling her shoes together as she considered her options. Her Unnie had always warned her about taking shortcuts through the darkness of a small alleyway, especially after her night shifts at 12AM and in the middle of the night. Night visibility wasn’t always good at 1AM , and tonight, for some odd enough reason, it was much worse than usual. A sense of dread crept up on her as she nibbled her lower lip, making the foolish decision to dash right through the dark alley and get the shortcut over and done with.
She shifted her feet, squirming slightly as she prepared herself, counting silently, mouthing the numbers to the countdown for the dash into the dark alley.
Five..Four..Three..Two...One--
“Oi.” Her head whipped around violently at the sound of a male’s voice, alarm ricocheting through her lithe body as she broke into a dash, her breathing rising at an alarming rate as she heard the shouts of the males to stop her, the clatter of metal poles and the blocking of her exit by another three sets of male bodies from the other end of the alley.
She should have asked her Unnie to come pick her up. Terror made her eyes wet slightly with tears, blinking rapidly as she took in the metal bats that they held in their hands, and the imposing, buff sizes of the four males that surrounded her in a circle.
“You’re coming with us. Whether you like it or not.” The male’s voice was low and gravelly, grating, but suppressed as he hefted the bat, all four of the men enclosing all around her like a venus fly trap, leering eyes and jeering faces.
Phone. Yes. Her phone.
Trembling fingers attempted to press the speed dial on her phone, the line immediately connecting her older sister--the only mistake that she made in her nervousness was the fact that she had pressed the loudspeaker button on the phone.
“Hello?” The sound of her sister’s voice would usually be calm and reassuring, but never before and Krystal cursed her sister for talking. She barely manages a squeak before one of the males wrench the phone from her hands, the metal bat lifting and brutally smashing the phone into pieces on the ground. For once, Krystal realises how dire the situation truly is. Here she is--backed into a wall, struggling to think of a possible way of escaping from her attackers to little or no avail.
“Just come with us, little girl.” Her eyes widen as one of the men softens at her frightened look, the raised position of his metal bat dropping slightly as he shifted uncomfortably towards her.
The metal bat was just within arms reach, and even better still--the male wasn’t aware that he had dropped his guard. Krystal didn’t even spare a thought to think of why she instinctively knew all of this. It simply came to her as swiftly as everything else of her senses did--the spotting of the weakness in the male’s left knee as he favoured his weight against his right foot, the uncomfortable adjusting of his hips that told of his weight leaning to one side more than the other, and the lack of tension in his arm muscles that told of his slowly loosening guard.
“Hey. Remember what that guy said? She’s dangerous.”
“She’s just a kid! And he hired us, we’re nothing but muscle men that he flew in for the job--to think that he’d go to such great lengths to kidnap a kid in the midst of a gang filled territory.”
Him? A man? Was this kidnapping because of her family? They were rich--yes, but as of what Krystal remember, none of her siblings nor parents had done anything to deserve anyone's ire. Or maybe that was just what she thought all by herself only. Krystal’s mind whirred at an unprecedented speed as her eyes shifted, breathing gently slowing as she tried to still herself as much as possible--to eliminate the very idea of her own presence being as her fingers crept towards the lowered metal bat. Her fingers curled around the cold frame of it her breath trembling lightly but silently.
Yank it down and out. Down and out. Krystal blinked, thinking if she should do so immediately to surprise the other male, or if she should wait till another thing distracted the male before doing so.
"Oi! She's touching your bat!" The sudden alarm in one of the males opposite the man that had turned his back to her was just the distraction that she needed. The moment the man's hands loosened around his bat in shock, Krystal gave the bat a hard yank, before screaming as she swung the weapon in a sheer amount of desperation and strength right into the man's face. The metal bat whirled a 180 degrees as she swung it from her back right to the front, the metal bat smashing into the face of the man before her with a sickening crunch, blood splattering all over the wall as Krystal raised the bat with sickening vengeance, smashing the weapon down on the males head with an extreme amount of violence repeatedly, the bat violently bludgeoning into the male's skull again and again as brain matter splattered against the wall with every squish of the now deformed bat. Sweat dripped from her forehead as she panted silently, adrenaline pumping in her veins and blood splattered all over her front and face as she turned to face the other two males with a violent grin on her face.
Murder was bad, Killing, even worse--but what was this vengeful tremor that grew in her veins? Self defense, Krystal coaxed herself as she took a deliberate step forth, bat swun over her shoulder and muscles screaming in agony. The remaining two men stumbled back, clearly rattled by the turn of events.
"Hey." Krystal tilted her head lightly to one side, blinking as she contemplated what to say next. "You're next." She wet her lips for a second, before rushing forward, hands gripped tightly on the bent metal bat and forward into further depravity.
....
"She's good." The remaining four men that had followed the hooligans they'd employed and flew over stood silently at the roof of one of buildings close by.
"Good? She's more than good. Fantastic, even. She instantly saw the male's weaknesses in a time of dire need. That needs a lot of training. But her talent makes up for it. Even when I first got brought in I wasn't that fantastic."
"Just the right amount of violence and brutality in her veins. And also, he was right to place her in such a dangerous situation instead of asking us to simply take her away, right from the start. Look, now even she knows the terrifying potential that she has--" The wet sound of the blunt bat against bloodied flesh filled the night air, before the clang of the metal bat being thrown aside rang through the air for a moment, and Krystal collapsed to her knees in exhaustion.
Her fingers trembled, muscles screaming in agony as the adrenaline receded from her body, and the pain from her wounds set in.
The men had been equipped with bats and knives. Whilst she may have had the element of surprise, the two men had their bulk and knives. They were equally as dangerous, perhaps even more than when they had first converged upon Krystal.
But she'd done it. Killed them. Krystal retched onto the wet ground, slick with ruby blood, the mess of carnage and flesh on the walls all of the three men shed blungeoned to death and none of her own. The blood seeped beneath her nails as she faintly sniffed, wiping the back of her mouth as she curled into the corner of a wall, trying to come to terms with the terrible thing she'd done.
She'd killed three men. Humans. Live blood, veins and flesh. The enormity of the whole situation only descended upon her like a hammer to a nail after she sucked in a breath into her lungs, the air tinged with the metallic smell of blood.
Oh god, she was so going to jail, wasn't she? The police would come for her. There would be a trial, a funeral--no, three funerals for the men she'd killed, and a whole lot of fuckery that her family would have to deal with, all because of what she'd done.
Tears seeped from her eyes, the soft sounds of her cries blending into the starry night as the other four men silently descended from their perch in the skies.
"Hello." The inky darkness of the male's mask was cold, the leathered hand clamped around her mouth thick and smelly, tinged with the metallic smell of iron and blood and chemicals. "You're still coming with us." The realization that these men of a different calibre were in cahoots with the others that she'd just killed dawned in her a little too belatedly, her body twisting frantically to rid herself of their grasp.
"Up you go." The taller and the more cheerful of the two hoisted her up to his shoulder. "Stop wriggling like a fish--AH! You stupid bitch!" The male threw Krystal violently to the ground, a hand clutching his ear. Krystal grinned, spitting the fleshy ear to the ground by the wall, the metallic red of the man's blood staining her teeth and lips as she coughed slightly, pulling herself up on shaky hands to stand wobblingly on her own two feet.
“At least--I got a part of you.” The words were nothing but a faint whisper as the man slammed her head against the wall, and a sharp pain burst within Krystal’s head, before a chilling, cold darkness washed over her.
