saw haters mad at the ending of echo show, thinking its not convincing enough (???) and not very R rated. but it IS a show abt maya. maya choosing her ancestors, her ppl instead of kingpins criminal empire IS decolonization. she chose to remove the kinpins influence on her. she chose another way than violence, the only way she has learned. she moved beyond violence and vengeance, she chose healing, she chose to grieve her mother and her father properly instead of just entering the endless cycle of violence again. the ending is NOT abt kingpin is abt HER.

I feel that instead of 20 movies every year the MCU should instead make shows and the series finale of each show could be a movie. Way more character development, care in crafting storylines, etc. A movie as the finale will be the icing on top and well earned.

Hey, here’s a question: could Maya actually hear what Wilson was saying when she was in his head? Since she seemed to be responding to what he was saying in sign still, and she didn’t have that translating device inside his head, since you know, she was inside his mind.
i think that yes, it's very likely that she could understand everything in his head. I mean it's magic so it defies reality and whatnot.
Like his thoughts translated into her thoughts as well, like the information there went to hers and her brain just translated it for her.
so yup, I think she deffo did understand him.

Just saw Echo and there aren't enough words to describe how amazing this show is. I've never had the urge to watch a Marvel show before, but from the moment I heard about this one and the cast lineup they had, I knew it was going to be something special. (been a fan of Chaske Spencer, Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, and Zahn McClarnon for years; I even spotted Elaine Miles right when I was thinking where is she in this project!) Now having seen it, I realize I didn't know just how special. This show is unique, important for young Native girls everywhere as well as for the disabled and deaf communities, and it should be protected at all costs. So many barriers being broken down in one single instant. And they even have a moment in the beginning (I won't spoil who) that features another MCU character that helps to cement not only Maya's and Echo's places in the franchise but also the that these communities can come together in one single scene to represent, if that makes sense. The symbolism of that one scene is pure genius and it's extremely important. Not to mention that they worked closely with the Choctaw Nation on this project. The cast is stellar (as I knew they would be). The multi-fold representation is *chef's kiss*.
This is the MCU show you should watch. This is the one you should lend your support to. It was incredible, so well done, well written, and as I said the cast was amazing. Genius, just genius. I hope to see more for Maya through this show.

Owning a cat w/ Maya Lopez hc
a/n: I would die if she looked at me like that istg. ANYWHO writing fluff is a little easier for me than smut and I'm pretty busy with school and work but I can't get these fucking ideas out of my head so I had to write a lil something! Hope y'all like it! Also to the people who follow me for tlou dw I haven't abandoned it I just... I mean look at her!

Warnings: none, just fluff (romantic and cat), reader is hearing bc im hearing and i would feel uncomfortable writing a deaf y/n bc i dont know what its like sorry

Pre-hawkeye:
She would come home to your shared appartment one day and would be confused as to why you hadn't come to greet her at the door like you usually do.
She figures you're probably sleeping since it was late and she and the tracksuits have been busy all night so she sits on the couch to unwind.
You suddenly get her attention when you walk out with an excited yet guilty grin on your face. She gives you a tired smile back and asks you why you're still up. You tell her you have a surprise for her and run out of the room.
Seconds later, you come back with a skinny orange cat with a dirty nose and place it on the couch next to her so you can tell her, "I was walking home and I heard rustling and he was just hungry and cold and he needed me I swear"
And she just looks at you like in the gif, raising her eyebrow, wondering if you're actually serious.
After enough staring she just sighs, looks at the cat and then back to you and asks, "what's his name?"
After her initial resistance to form a bond with Bobby (she argued about the name but his ears perked up when you said his it and she couldn't help but smile when you jumped with excitement), she finds herself petting him to soothe herself and putting her face on his side when he purrs.
She tolerates most of the things he does but she will literally push him away when he lies on your chest because that's her spot. Not even in a sexual way. She just likes the softness of your chest and if you're skin to skin she can vaguely feel your heartbeat which usually rocks her to sleep.
Post-echo
You share a house in Tamaha and you both go out to take a walk in a nearby forest. About 20 minutes into your walk, you stop, holding her back because you hold hands as soon as you leave the house. She asks you what's wrong and you tell her you hear something crying.
You search the area for a few minutes before you find a young, black and white kitten. As soon as she sees it, Maya knows it would break her heart and yours to save it and not keep it so you bring it back home, bathe it and feed it.
You leave Maya and the kitten to go pick up some supplies and when you come back, you sneak into the kitchen to see her sliding her fingers across the table as the kitten wiggles its butt, ready to pounce.
Once it does, she's able to grab its tiny body and bring it to her face, giving it tons of kisses. You put a hand on her shoulder and she turns to you, blushing slightly. "Should I be jealous?" you ask, giggling.
She lets the kitten crawl back onto the floor as she stands up, forcing you to look up at her. "Sweetheart there's nothing on earth I could love more than you." she signs slowly, loving the way you become shy when she expresses her love for you.
You look back up at her face and see the soft smile she reserves for you and you can't help but lean into her soft lips as she grabs your waist. You think you could stay like this forever until you hear a loud, high-pitched meow. You look down and see that the little rascal is pawing at Maya's leg and screaming like there's no tomorrow.
You bend down to pick it up and it licks your face as you bring it to your neck. When you look back at Maya, she's giving you a toothy grin. "What?"
She kisses you and then the kitten's forhead and signs "My perfect little family".

I feel like there are valid reasons to not like Echo. The story can be a bit messy, the pacing can feel a little off, the last two episodes really tank, and the change in Echo's powers just feels so weird.
And yet the main thing driving people so crazy is that this is a show about a deaf, amputee, Choctaw WOMAN. Because...goodness forbid Marvel introduces general audiences to a character that existed since the late nineties and try to make her badass. Because it's definetly not like the MCU, in the past, has introduced badass characters with a disability.
Or characters who are amputated.
Or characters who represent a race/culture.
Or characters who are women.
Look, if you don't like the show, that's fine. If you offer valid criticisms, I can understand you not liking Echo. But if all you have to offer is that you don't like this character being "too woke," then there is a bigger problem at hand and it's NOT Echo's existence.
