I'm really good at remembering to share things here

Been re-cooking and oooolder character to use for my frenzy ending run, and she turned into an ex-finger maiden, Rhian (hilariously her OG name is Ranni which, would be a lil awkard now in an Elden Ring setting LOL...)

Info dump under the cut...feel free to send questions if anyone's curious for more I feel like talking about her now

As a child Rhian was a refugee among a small group who sought the shores of Limgrave for safety, and unluckily their camp was raided by a small Demihuman Frenzy Cult (kinda inspired by the flame of frenzy village on the Weeping Peninsula where a good bunch of demihumans lurk nearby)

Her people were subjected to the Frenzy Flame or otherwise outright slaughtered, but Rhian and a few other captives were to be set up for a special kind of sacrificial ritual.

Rhian is touched by the flame, but the ritual is interrupted by a noble house that was headed toward Castle Morne who intervene and save her before the worst happens and they take her back home with them to figure out what to do with her.

The Tylluan noble house is newly established in Liurnia, made up of a family of Tarnished whose youngest daughter, Ewin, has been called by grace. They pretty much make this their entire personality from then forth, and with the coming of Rhian (and her and Ewin getting along quite nicely) it was an obvious sign this was destiny written out clear and true for the girls.

From then on Rhian is raised adjacent to the noble house through their own church to begin her life toward the honorable duties of serving as Ewin's finger maiden. She doesn't know how to feel about this, but is obviously indebted to their kindness...right?

As they grew up alongside one another, lovingly raised into their destinies by House Tylluan, Rhian and Ewin became close friends

...with a little "it's complicated" sprinkled in....

They get close, perhaps by obligation (or rebellion) to their role as tarnished and maiden...or maybe they really did enjoy the other's company in a lonely life that has been planned out for them.

Rhian gets comfortable in her role as finger maiden and accepts, even welcomes, her duties in assisting Ewin to become Elden Lore and restore the lands between (for House Tylluan yippee)

It eventually is revealed, however, the true Destiny a maiden must uphold if her tarnished is to become Elden Lord...the final act of burning your maiden, to burn the thorns away at the mountain top, to gain access to the Erdtree.

Despite their bond, Ewin seems to agree to this, albeit solemnly, and just like that the veil is lifted.

Betrayed, terrified, and angry, Rhian rejects this and escapes.

A spark had lit, one that had been germinating quietly within her as she grew into a lie where safety and love was nothing more than a fabrication of her way of life. She had been rescued from a fate of slaughter, only to be raised like the finest livestock for an even more grandiose slaughter.

Perhaps that Spark within her was right. The one she pushed deep down when her ruminating doubts pillaged her mind. The one that occasionally surfaced when it all seemed wrong. Too good to be true.

Perhaps it truly was unfair. To live is to suffer, after all. But it could stop. It could all stop for good...no more suffering.

That spark, that fear and pain in this poor soul whose life was ripped from her for selfish means, since becomes a distant light. Rhian follows it, seeks it like an old friend. Wears that friend on her shoulder, the one friend who gets it.

To live is to suffer. But it's her life now.

You ever just get stuck by the silliest au idea and then suddenly its consumed your mind?

Anyway TMNT Princess Bride au

Most characters taken from the 2003 series, but personality of turtles might be closer to Rise series

(I wrote this in the notes of my phone so forgive typos and weird thought process lol)

Casey is buttercup. April is westly (Originally, and what inspired this whole thing. Was that karai was buttercup and Chapman was westley lol)

The turtle bros work for stockman (bishop?) Because he says he has he will help them find their father's killer. A man who has 3 scars along his chin.

Casey just a simple farmer (oh my god. The farm house) with April there to help feed chickens and milk cows and such and such (Would she only say as you wish?? Would she be that submissive? Idk. Maybe she would as long as he promised not to call her babe lol) (LMAO HER PHRASE IS DONT CALL ME BABE INSTEAD OF AS YOU WISH LOLOLOL)

Eventually she goes off to maybe get soem schooling or soemthing. But her ship gets [sunk/destroyed] by the Dread Pirate Krang. April doesn't return and after years Casey believes she died.

Then the local royalty happens to pass by and the princess (karai)(who is told needs to find a husband so she can finally become queen) decides to make Casey her groom.

Casey still in a depressive gloom doesnt do much to reject her.

One day when Casey is out on a run (one of his few joys) he gets kidnapped by 4 demihuman turtles . :D

But then. A stranger begins to follow them. A (wo)man in black

I've mostly been going from 03 inspiration of character. But the turtles might be a little more Rise based.

Leo is inigo foil. The master swordsman. And the banter. "You seem a decent fellow, I hate to kill you" "you seem a decent fellow. I hate to die" I am not left handed. He Asks april "ever seen a man with 3 scars along his chin?" "Do you ask everyone that question?

Raph is Fezzik . Big. The muscle. (Kind) Mikey doesnt have a direct foil. May have his own individual fight with april or possibly works with raph. The muscle and taunting words and stuff idk

Stockman is arrogant and thinks hes the smartest around. Accepts April's challenge.

Don is there to keep a hold on Casey. (He plays the game a long in his mind that it doenst actually take any posion). Once stockman is dead, Don just asks for th truth about what happen to the rest of his brothers, April tells him they are just knocked out and will be fine. He says he doenst really care about keeping casey as they were just doing it to work with stockman and well he's dead so no point. Bye crazy smart lady and sad prince to be. And he leaves to meet up with his brothers.

Cue april trying to lead casey away and him being like. Oh you're the pirate that killed the love of my life! Blah blah blah so you can shove it babe!

They go through the forest (lmao splinter as rous) (not actually but the image is funny)

And Karai and her advisor Oroku Saki meet them and casey begs her to let april go instead of killing her.

April notes that the advisor has 3 scars a long his chin. That's right. Shredder is what's his face and killed splinter. (Sorry splints. You had to die in this au)

April is taken to Bishop who experiments on his death machine. Just doing his job and having fun with his toys.

BUT

shredder shows up when he learns about the demihumans and asks too many questions about the demi humans shes ever encountered. (Theres a small but decent population in the kingdom) but especially that turtles she encountered last. April doesn't care (she does but more concerned about casey) and asks instead about casey and telling him shes never going to stop.

Karai may or may not visit April… idk. But honestly she doesnt really care about marrying casey but she needs to in order to get the crown.

Anyway its shredder who throws a hissy fit and cranks up the machine "killing" april

Meanwhile the turtles have regrouped but leo is super depressed because he failed and now theh have no lead on their father's killer. Brothers eventually pull him out of it.

They hear aprils cry?? They want "the woman in black" to help them??

Idk they go look for her

("Father guide my sword" is SUCH a thing Leo would do and the humor of it hitting the tree then opening the door is peak tmnt.)

They all have to push raph on the cart to break into the castle. Hun is the door keeper lol

Leo goes after shredder. Raph is hauling April around. Ikd what mikey and don are doing exactly. Maybe they split off to look for karai and/or casey

Leo: RAPH!! RAAAAPH. HE'S GETTING AWAY! RAPH

Raph: sighs and puts april down carefully and goes knocks down the door for leo. Comes back to everyone gone. "Now whered everybody go??"

April somehow gets to Casey's room. Casey is thrilled.

Karai shows up… idk. Ask why she really is doing this. Is it what she really wants? Or is it just what shredder has convinced her she needs to do (marry become queen go to war and take over other kingdoms)

Karai seems to consider it (maybe) but still cant have her groom just be carted off. April says okay let's fight then. I've taken on demihimans and been dead and came back, you really want to fight?

Karai considers and concedes. They tie her up so it doesnt look like she just wlt them go.

Karai let's them all leave and ends up marrying one of the chamber men[squire/stable boy/man servant] (is that a real term???) Chapman.

Leo don and mikey all catch up and somehow raph went and found them all horses to ride out on. Happily ever after

Cody is the grandson. Hamato yoshi/splinter is the grandfather

Relatively new to guilty gear here, so apologies if this is an obvious question to answer, but after giving I-No her power back and then I-No dying, did happy chaos die as well? If not, was he any weaker, or did he maybe return to his sane state since he isn't basically half god anymore?

Prior to casting the spell to turn I-No in to a demigod, Happy Chaos says:

"There's no way you'll believe me when I say this…! But I'm really hoping you guys win. Because… I'd like to see you again."

Then later, in the post-credits scene, Happy Chaos is seen standing near a beach and says

"I exist."

The English localization phrases it as "I'm here.", but in Japanese it has the dual meaning of being related to his own existence.

We don't actually find out the FULL truth behind what happens in its entirety, but there is a lengthy exchange between Chaos and I-No in his Arcade Episode (which takes place in a paradox world of I-No's creation after the events of the story).

In summation though, Happy Chaos mentions discovering the true nature of Gears and Demihumans as "Gateways" in to other dimensions, and wants to either use Bedman or Nagoriyuki for such a gateway in that fashion.

Whether or not I-No still exists after this is paradoxical, as technically she exists as "Megumi Saito" now (Axl's true girlfriend).

Related to this, Happy Chaos himself apparently returned the Tome of Origin to Asuka after his use of it, though it seems likely he still has some fragments of powers he gained from either I-No or the Backyard itself after all that has transpired.

The details are hazy, but it's clear he has some way to intervene on other dimensions in some capacity given the power of his Gun Crescent Moon.

How much of his power he still retains isn't fully certain, but given his plans, knowledge, and designs, it's a safe bet he's still a potential threat to Humanity and Demihumans (and Gears) alike.

Considering the additional cast of characters being added between Season 3 and Season 4 of Strive's DLC, I'd say the story still has one major Episode to reveal for all characters involved (even new characters we may not have been introduced to yet).

Only time will tell Happy Chaos' true designs...

SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).

And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and

She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good

And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. Reign of the Seven Spellblades was recommended to me as (to vastly oversimplify) "Harry Potter, but good". And that's a decent summary of the appeal. It's the same core fantasy, minus the "escaping your unpleasant mundane life" and most of the problems that taint Harry Potter's take on the fantastical boarding school. (Also, from what little information I can find, Bokuto Uno doesn't seem to be militantly opposed to the existence of trans people.)

However, that comparison also colors the way I look at the series. Would I have identified the girl with long brown hair who gets angry about demihumans being treated inhumanely or the antisocial bookworm as the Hermiones of the cast if I hadn't seen the series directly compared to Harry Potter?

Anyways, on that note, my first impression of the main cast:

Katie: Nice Hermione who hopefully has a better taste in animal friends than Hagrid

Pete: Bookish Hermione

Oliver: Harry minus angst...or maybe a young Damien Kazinski? Team Mom either way.

Guy: Unfriendly Ron, with Neville's green thumb

Chela: Malfoy, but nice

Nanao: Shonen Jump hero who enrolled in wizard school because her manga was cancelled after one volume.

I'm 100% serious about that last one. She had a violent backstory which involves almost dying in a Bolivian Army Ending; she has a big fish-out-of-water vibe (like she's from a different genre, or at least a different world); she uses swords more than magic. Nanao even has the appetite of a stock shonen hero!

On a completely unrelated note, the setting feels casually magical in a way that Hogwarts doesn't. Bewitching a girl to run at a parade is a plausible prank. The Great Hall's dining tables are on the ceiling, and gravity is inverted at mealtimes. Characters casually levitate a map and point at it with glowing wands to explain where they're from. Nobody draws attention to it, it's just there.

Also, Nanao rescued Nice Hermione twice in one episode (which was mostly focused on establishing the characters, setting, and tone), and the second involved a princess carry. Wonder where that's going.

You know what's a scenario I need? Priscilla introducing Anastasia as her girlfriend to Vincent and Arakiya. The sibling-in-law dynamics would be great.

Hear me out.

I think Vincent would be quick to accept Ana into the family. He can see Ana is a skilled woman, so he'd respect her. Maybe there'd be a bit of wariness from him, because that's how he is, but even so, he knows Priscilla is smart, and if his little sister chose Ana, then surely he can trust her. Ana could take a liking to him as well; she'd definitely have fun teasing him. Plus, Ana calling Vincent "our brother" when talking to Priscilla would be cute.

As for Arakiya, perhaps she'd initially be a bit jealous of Ana. I think Ana would make attempts to approach Arakiya nonetheless, and even though Arakiya isn't very talkative, Ana, thanks to her natural skill with words, could find a way to interact with Arakiya that doesn't make the latter uncomfortable. And, feeling validated by this and also impressed by Ana's finesse overall, Arakiya could warm up to her.

Pris is almost definitely the type to brag about having a partner, if not to goad others and observe their reaction. I can see her using her relationship with Ana to torment an emotionally repressed Vincent whos still trying to beat all the thoughts of Chisha. Like “you couldnt kill me and you couldnt even beat me at getting into a relationship. and youre the emperor? lol. Lmao even.”

And 10000% I think you hit the nail on the head with Vincent in that he’d be wary, probably coming up with a bunch of escape plans for Pris if she somehow gets on the wrong side of the Iron Fang (or if he knew about Ana’s connection to Halibel), but would eventually warm up as she’s got that easygoing, business mentality that he can respect. I think he’d find it just as entertaining as Pris does when Ana backtalks them and slyly insults them.

Ana calling Vincent “our brother”,,,, thats so precious omg. Pris mocking her habits of collecting people and being a conniving fox while Ana’s like “I’m a greedy gal, course I’d monopolise my future wife’s family too. I aint exactly got one of my own.” and one hit KOing Pris.

god speaking of foxes I gotta wonder just how funny it’d be to Ana that Pris’ mother is a fox demihuman. Like theyre both fox women in a certain sense, even if Pris dismisses her whenever its brought up.

Arakiya is a difficult one because (at least current canon anya) shes very, very obsessed with Pris. That whole line of her being willing to dismember Pris just to keep her on the throne haunts me. So I imagine if she found out about Ana, she’d be furious at first. Pris has picked someone weak who cant protect her (abandoned Arakiya when she couldnt do the same, one of her biggest regrets) and Pris has actively picked someone as far removed from Vollachia as they come.

But I do think with time and character development, Arakiya would soften up a lot. Ana can’t protect her directly in the way Arakiya wants, but she has dozens of people capable of doing so for her. She’s good at negotiating, and eventually I imagine Arakiya will have to contend with the fact Pris is strong enough on her own. It’d take a long time for Arakiya to acknowledge Ana as worthy for the Princess, but I like to imagine her and Cecilus going to Kararagi for (his) clothes shopping and Ana tagging along to get to know Anya better.

Oh, oh and I cant forget how juicy the whole “Ana is on borrowed time” thing would be as a reveal to her inlaws. Pre them getting along I can see it be a huge reason for Vincent and Arakiya to oppose the relationship on account of their protectiveness of Pris. But after theyve got positive opinions of Ana? It’d be devastating. Poor Vincent reliving what happened with Chisha, expecting the reveal to crush Pris, while Pris insists on her world working in her favour mindset. Arakiya remembering Prisca’s reaction years back would cause her to really, really panic. She’s just gotten the princess back—would her partners untimely death break her worldview once more, or is there anything Arakiya can do to finally make it up to her?

The world has made demi humans slaves and a working class. Normal rabbits for dog races have turned to rabbit men with huge vicious dogs chasing them. The upper human classes buy dog and cat demi humans as pets and objects to just look at.

Character Overviews:

Enyo: 24 ur old rabbit man that's recently escaped from the dog races, he's all over the news for him killing a few of the handlers, not trusting of humans, 6 ft, blue eyes, scar across nose, black hair and rabbit ears

Opal: 22 ur old human woman, lives in the woods secluded from society due to hating the enslavement of demi humans, 5'2 ft/in, brown eyes

I woke up to pressure on my chest and a hand over my mouth, whoever was on top of me was huge, I could barely make his features out. A note of blue and red lights dancing in my window, gave me the shivers. "You speak, scream, or whatever, I'll fucking kill you." A husky voice brings me back to the hulking man. As he leaned closer I took notice of the sleek rabbit ears that adorned his head.

I nodded slowly as the cop lights cut off and we could hear the car leave. The man gets off of me and looks out the window. "Now tell me why I shouldn't kill you?" He turns as I switch my night stand lamp on. He was huge, had to be over 5'7, fuck I had to look all the way up to look him in the eyes. "Maybe cause I hate the government? Cause I'm not gonna call the cops on you? Why are the cops after you exactly?" I quirk.

"Don't worry about that, pipsquek." He huffs. I roll my eyes and get up to go to the kitchen.

Enyos POV

I had to give it to the human, she wasn't scared at all, or I couldn't tell at least. I followed her to the kitchen, "Want some tea? Look I don't care if you stay here till it's safe for you to leave if you choose to." She clipped while pouring some water into a pot to heat.

I squint at her, "what's the catch? You humans always have a catch.". She laughs as she pours the now hot water into 2 cups, she slides a cup towards me, "let it steep for a few. It's lavender and chamomile. It'll help us sleep. There's no catch, I don't need anything from you. If you want to, you can check every room in this house to make sure it's safe."

She finished her cup and headed to her room, "Purple door is your room."

I checked and searched through every room before going back to the cup of tea. I swallow it in one gulp, it was good. Surprisingly. I stalked to my now room, this human was definitely different. I'll learn more tomorrow

Morning

My ears twitched, listening for threats, but all that was around was the sound of a shower going. I drag myself to the living room, even though my body wanted to stay in bed. I scanned the living room once more, the photos on the walls peaked my interest a lot. It showed pipsquek with a demihuman wolf man, and a human woman. "Oh your awake." The human walks up to my side, "that's my mom and step dad. They were executed a few years ago, hence why I stay all the way out here. I can't stand how humans treat demi humans." I could see the tears threatening her eyes, but she didn't let them fall.

I gunt at her, so maybe she isn't that bad? "I'll stay for now, keep you company I guess" I sensed the surprise that radiated off her.

"Um. You got any clothes I can borrow? I don't think you want me in any stank clothes." I watched her, she was nice to watch in her own environment.

She slides a plate full of eggs and sausage, I think I might like it here.

If only modern anime had the same approach to pairings as the old ones, some of those anime would be so much better. I have no idea why isekai became synonymous with female harem, but sometimes those harems are so out of the blue there, just for the sake of being there, that you get the feeling that they serve no other purpose than to pander to young men, while the story suffers, because some male character has more chemistry with the protagonist but will never be allowed to be seen as proper possible love interest for no reason.

People who know me will probably know what I will say now. Yes, Tate no Yuusha is one of those stories. That story is so much better when the protagonist either doesn't have any love interest, or they're from a different world than the one Naofumi was summoned to, as the huge part of Tate no Yuusha story is the fight between worlds for survival that creates a perfect simulation of Romeo & Juliet trope. Especially if you look at L'Arc the disaster bi who couldn't even fulfil the one and only objective he was sent to Raphtalia's world for: killing Naofumi.

Naofumi's harem is so out there, that it could as well just not exist. It seriously works thematically better as a father with a bunch of kids trope rather than harem, especially now in season 3 when Naofumi literally has a gaggle of children in his village that he basically raises.

Raphtalia then fulfills the typical trope of a daughter that idolized her father so much that she wanted to marry him. Her infatuation didn't truly disappear when she grew up, mostly due to the fact that she did grow up so quickly as a demihuman that her feelings didn't have time to fade. Most little girls at some point grow out of idolizing their dad, but Raphtalia as a demihuman didn't have the same chance. And I'm not saying it to dig at Naofumi x Raphtalia shippers. I don't condemn any ship and never will. I'm just stating how I see the story and what I feel would work better for this particular setting than forced harem.

Second on my list of possible suitors for Naofumi, when we assume that he wants any suitors at all or is not aromantic (as aro protagonist is also something that I'd want to see more often) is Therese. Hell, it'd be great to see a canon polyamorous triad in an isekai setting tbh.

Another good example is Isekai Cheat Magician, where one of the protagonists - Rin Azuma has more chemistry with Myura than with the second protagonist that she supposedly has a crush on. And ok, sure, she was in love with him for years, so maybe it's not fair to take it away, but at the same time the romance seems unlikely as Taichi doesn't seem to harbor the same feelings and treats Rin more as if she was his sister than a possible girlfriend. Even if I created a poly couple here, it'd always feel to me as if Taichi was a third wheel.

More obvious example is SAO, where love between Kirito and Eugeo is expressed in symbols as well as Kirito's heartbreak at the end of the Alicization Arc, but doesn't strike the audience hard enough to admit that Kirito is truly bisexual and that he loved both Asuna and Eugeo. It's there if you look at it closely, but people still deny it and call me names when I bring up that both Asuna and Kirito are bisexual and that both loved a same-sex character that ultimately died later on. I feel that the story hits harder when you say it was about queer love, especially in Alicization, because then it'd mean that there was huge romance drama going on (Kirito > Eugeo > Alice > Kirito), where all protagonists' love is unrequited. It's the most tragic love triangle.

I also mentioned a manga before that I feel would benefit from it too. Hero in that story is just such a worrywart in regard to the protag.

I'm seriously starved for some good modern isekai with homo or bi male protagonist. I'm getting some w|w recently, but I feel like m|m will never come, as if w|w were easier to get than actual m|m here.

I'm not complaining. I just have this feeling that isekai is avoiding true m|m and instead is only providing us w|w, which tbh we were starved for and want more obviously, but give us some m|m too if you please.

Rereading/watching BBCT and rambling about things I find interesting or may've missed a first time part 5 featuring Taokaka and Litchi

Starting off with Tao there's not much to say. She's the fun goofy character and her story does well to relay that. That isn't to say she's one-dimensional as when she does have Arakune dead to rights she decides to let him go so long as he no longer bothers the Kakas. Partly because it's the right thing to do and partly because Litchi told her it isn't right to hurt people. Something he's never going to honor but it's the thought that counts. Her head maybe vacant ninety percent of the time but she is definitively a sweet girl.

Surprising that Kokonoe actually showed up to her in Kagatsuchi of all the story modes even if unintentionally. Even more so considering how patient and kind she was to Tao for as much as Kokonoe tends to be. No real condescension, concern for Tao getting in trouble with the NOL for not being in the Kaka Village underground, and willing to help her get back albeit also testing one of her devices on Tao to do so. Kokonoe being more friendly with Kakas in general considering they were the ones who saved her from Terumi after he killed Nine and Trinity wouldn't be a stretch.

I also wonder if the whole mecha Tagers and Taokakas are just supposed to be a one-off gag and shout-out to Robo-Ky or they were supposed to be something more. Nothing serious mind you but if BlazBlue was purportedly meant to be a RPG at one point then maybe they were supposed to be generic mob enemies. Or even just generic mobs that Kokonoe would throw at someone when she needs to distract someone like Azrael. Food for thought.

Litchi's episode is probably been one of my favorites so far but that could just be recency bias. It does a good job to flush out her character. She's kind, motherly, reasonable, a bit overbearing but in a "teacher who doesn't want her students to play to rough" sort a way. It also makes it clear she can be selfish. She wants to put down Arakune to relieve her own pain but she also wants to save him while knowing that in the meantime he's running rampant he's inevitably going to do more harm to others. All in all just a good episode to read.

The plight of the Kaka's population is made here through Elder Kaka Totokaka talking about it through Litchi. The population of the Kaka will never go past 100 under otherwise normal circumstances and in the event they can't naturally reproduce they will do so asexually. There's a concern by Toto on the fate of the Kaka on how they'll fade away to time and how they're forsaken by God. Not an unfounded concern because the Elder seems to understand that they will be victim to genetic stagnancy and decay. To paraphrase her words all the new children are just copies of those passed away and although they are a hundred they are essentially one organism. Eventually the parts of a organism will degrade and fail and the organism as a whole will die. Litchi thinks that through genetic alteration they can fix this but Totokaka thinks would just make them a further afront to nature. Which really begs the question of why the Kaka's are designed like this? Beastkin/Demihumans like Makoto who's kind were also made during the Dark War don't seem to have this problem and the population control factor seems to be an intentional design for the Kaka's.

Alright! Do you wanna tell us a bit more about the boy Lokee? I love seeing him but maybe it's time for a formal introduction hehe ^^

CAN DO!

Lokee is an undead tiefling shapeshifter! His birth name is actually Eurynomos Out of Wedlock. Neither of his parents allowed him to take their last name, and his mother wouldn't even allow him to call her 'mom', hence why he refers to her as Ms. Anne. Her occupation was a private live-in teacher for a wealthy family so she defaulted to treating him like an unwanted, unruly student.

He actually renamed himself Euyric Locke because of the negative associations he felt with his birth name, and his full name was difficult to say with his stutter. I actually consider Euyric to be his real name and Lokee to be more of an alias.

He took on the name Lokee specifically after he died, and it's usually for a different reason depending on the campaign/setting. In some cases, it's because the necromancer that brought him back essentially claimed his name so he's unable to say it/unable to be brought back again because he no longer has a name. As a result he takes on a new temporary name, Lokee! In other campaigns, he changes his name specifically to avoid being traced back to his death because he doesn't want to be caught as an escaped undead servant. Sometimes though, it's just an alias to avoid the people he's pissed off that want to murder him haha.

He has a few other names he goes by that go alongside the faces he wears, mostly to avoid giving away his real identity. They're also a means for him to explore his gender identity because he's genderfluid! Although he normally uses he/him, and sometimes he/they, when using the different masks he's able to explore gender expression and outside perception in ways non-shapeshifters can't.

There's the 7' tall punkish goth human, Emilia (she/her; he/him) Then the 5'10 snooty aasimar, Beaumont (he/him) And the 4'11 demihuman/rabbit-person, Louie (they/them)

on the topic of the 6 forbidden magics, I'm curious what you speculate the other spells would do. they all have some sort of price, and seem to be connected to fully manipulating a 'medium' like hair or shadow. Nagoriyuki mentions in Zato's arcade mode that this is his first time fighting TWO beast wielders- maybe implying he's fought people who have used the spells in the past?

In context, Nagoriyuki was probably referring to his encounters with Giovanna when compared with Zato...

However, I want to point out that Angra (Millia's Curse) is also classified as a "Forbidden Beast" (Kinjuu) just as Eddie is... though I can't say the same for certain of Rei as he is a completely different class of creature, and Giovanna's past has yet to be fully disclosed.

Other variants include Fenrir (the Dragon that consumed Tyr's arm in Guilty Gear Xtra), as well as Judgement (the result of former Scientist Raymond's attempt at fusing with Inus... a Demihuman Youkai).

You could also argue that Bedman's manipulation of Oneroi (Dream Demons) is a form of Forbidden Manipulation. Though in Bedman's case, a large portion of that power comes from his and his sisters' inability to fully function in a "waking state" (i.e. constantly sleeping).

There are, of course, other forms of contractual agreements between Demons, Demihumans, and Ghosts... and also Possession, as with the case of Zappa. In fact the very concept of a Magic Instroment is to infuse Magic in to an object via "possession" as a technique... which is what makes enchanted items and enchanted weapons.

What makes the magic "forbidden" is the idea that possession and fusion are used on the human body as a vessel... only certain types of individuals are compatible to be vessels (in fact Venom was a rejected vessel according to Slayer).

As for beings that directly classify as "Kinjuu", as stated before, much of that Magic technology was derived from Gear Cell Research... so most Kinjuu were created using Humans as a vessel instead of using Gear Cells as a medium. So in that sense, most Kinjuu are body parasites.

Arguably, most Kinjuu would be likened unto "Gears" without Gear Cells... so they are actually closer to Humans and Valentines in that regard.

However, it should also be noted that Kinjuu were DESIGNED to be the natural "enemy" of Gears, that is how they were initially manufactured during the Crusades.

The 'price' was usually a shortened lifespan, or simply the fact that the vessel would fuse with the Kinjuu and the Kinjuu would simply expire (with a pre-programmed expiration date).

The people behind the Kinjuu simply wanted a "disposable tool" that could fight the Gears... they didn't really CARE about the people who would become the test subjects and vessels as a result. It was very inhumane.

Rather than merely say that something like losing one's eyesight was the "cost"... it was merely the "down payment" to an even bigger price. That's why Eddie died regardless of Zato's fate. Their resurrection was a fluke of fate because of Dr. Faust's desperate research in the human soul.

Even in Raymond's case... he used the corpse of a dead Demihuman as his vessel to fuse with... and even though it granted him power for a time... he eventually died because of that mistake.

Dabbling with Forbidden Magic... it's called Forbidden for a reason... even creating Humanoid Gears from Gear Cell Vessels is a sinful act in its own way...

I have no doubt that even Giovanna herself paid some kind of 'price' for the power she wields between herself and Rei, whether she wants to admit that or not.

Ahh, sorry this took so long! Between COVID brain and Gen Con prep, I'm barely remembering my dog's name this week. >.<

The Debt Must Be Great That is Paid in Blood is a very epic title... which calls for epic source material. Something larger-than-life, with sweeping, grandiose, unapologetic drama... *runs through list of fandoms I've written for in the past year* Welp, that's either TGCF or DMC (because those are similar). 😂 Hmm... I think Xie Lian is too nice to have a blood feud with anyone he didn't already destroy in canon, so DMC it is!

And you're getting this in real time because my brain is mush and I didn't think ahead, so HOORAY stream-of-consciousness-fic-brainstorming, let's go!

Some time after the events of DMC5, a portal to the underworld rips open, wreaking havoc on the local human population. Probably in Red Grave, again, because that town's always getting messed up. With Dante and Vergil still missing, Nero, Lady, and Trish go to beat down the escaping demons and address the portal. They're joined this time by Lucia, because people kept asking for her to show up during my last story clearly they need all the help they can get to deal with this Very Dangerous Situation That In No Way Resembles the Plots of Previous Games. (by Capcom do not steal)

The whole time they're in the neighborhood, Trish Has A Bad Feeling About This(TM), but they can't really leave this situation alone, so finally they enter the portal to cross into the other realm. When they reach the underworld, it quickly becomes apparent to those who have faced him before -- which would be, uh, just Trish, come to think of it -- that Mundus is once again trying to invade the human realm and take over the world. Third time's the charm, I guess? But Mundus has at least learned a little from his previous defeats, and has powered himself up a lot this time, and is using the resources of the underworld to his advantage -- including drawing some sort of power from a central source to protect his body from their attacks, as they discover when they rush him in his throne room. Lady remarks on the similarity of the experience to their disastrous fight against Urizen. Nero doesn't think Mundus is quite that strong, but none of them have true Devil Arms, and mundane attacks are blocked by Mundus's arcane shield. Trish barely manages to scratch him with Luce and Ombra charged up to maximum.

Facing Mundus on his own turf is a really inconvenient time for Trish to learn that her creator still controls the power he originally granted to her, but surprise! Fearing she'll be forced to turn against her friends if she keeps resisting, Trish allows herself to be taken captive by Mundus. Just as she's pulled in, she realizes something and tries to communicate to the others that there's something they need to do to destroy the shield -- something she can sense, something that could help them destroy Mundus once and for all... they just need to find the... Yeah, they don't quite catch the details. Knowing he's in no danger from the puny human (and demihuman, and nonhuman) hunters, Mundus takes Trish and goes to make the final preparations for his invasion of the human realm -- probably by upgrading Trish into his new martial champion, because he keeps losing those. (Sparda, Nero Angelo... pretty sure Trish's number is up next anyway)

After they flee the maison du Mundus (promising to return and free Trish once they take down the shield), the hunters search the surrounding area and find seals spaced out at regular intervals around his throne room. They estimate that there are... *rolls dice* nine of them, which Lucia can sense somehow because she's also a demon construct. (Or maybe it says "seal number nine" on one in devil script? We'll figure that out in the edit.) Lady, Lucia and Nero split up to tackle the seals, each of which is conveniently (for purposes of interspersing regular action scenes in the text) guarded by a boss. They've done the level crawl before, they know how this works. Go through an area, smack the boss, lather, rinse, repeat.

So we level chapter crawl through the sequence, following each protagonist further into the maze of the underworld as they solve a puzzle and fight a boss. With each seal that goes down, Nero feels a little more of something tugging at his mind, but he can't quite pin it down.

Eventually all the perimeter seals are opened, leaving only the main shield generator in the chamber behind Mundus's throne room -- which also seems to be the source of the sensation in Nero's head. They go to crack it open, and discover that the source emitting all the power that Mundus is using isn't a thing at all, but a whom -- and oddly, it's just an older human-looking guy with white hair and a solid case of power-drain-induced amnesia. They question him (once he wakes up) to no avail, though once he learns who and what they are, the man wonders if he might have been a hunter too, once. Nero thinks it's a little weird that there's another unknown hunter down here, but says they should take him with them rather than leave him here to be re-imprisoned by Mundus. Lady is suspicious of the whole situation, but agrees that they can't just leave a guy all alone down here, especially if he's an enemy of Mundus. Lucia is pretty sure the old guy is not human -- at least, not entirely -- but Nero shrugs that off. Maybe he's just half devil; after all, Dante and Vergil and Nero all have white hair too, so maybe that's just what all demihumans look like? Genetics are weird.

So now that the shield is down, it's time to rescue Trish and defeat Mundus, but they have to hike for a bit to get to where he currently is. Nero, the goodest boy when he's not being a punk, keeps an eye on Grandpa Amnesia to make sure he's okay and chats with him along the way. He talks about his home of Fortuna, which seems to trigger some of the man's memories. Bits and pieces start coming together. Grandpa says some things that would be giant waving signal flags to Nero if only he'd paid attention in Sparda School... but alas.

Eventually they catch up to Mundus, who has converted Trish into his new general. Mundus sics Trisho Angelo on the hunters, and...

Well. It turns out that if you're a benevolent family-minded devil lord who has had your power suppressed and drained by your former boss for several decades, and during that time you have been tormented and suffered grief over the loss of your family to the point of blocking your own memories of them and your own identity at the conscious level, and then suddenly your former boss trots out someone who looks exactly like your beloved wife -- whom he murdered -- and makes her try to kill you and your new friends... that's a good way to get un-amnesiafied real fast.

So Sparda takes extreme umbrage at the whole situation. Normally he would just wipe the floor with Mundus again, but he actually has been weakened by spending 40 years in a power siphon, and he can't just unload indiscriminately without vaporizing Trish in the process, so Nero and company get to help him take down the big bad and his adds (because you know he brought some). Lots of action, such fight scene, many boom, very esplodey.

After Mundus is defeated, Trish gets psychically recalibrated to undo the brainwashing and reunites with the others. Sparda has a bittersweet moment where he Does Not Get Emotional because for an instant he thought Eva was still alive, even though Mundus has taunted him with her death for years. He long ago swore to take revenge on Mundus for her murder, as well as his dear sons' (I guess he was probably already a drained battery by the time Nero Angelo came about? Maybe Mundus just never mentioned the whole failing-to-kill-the-twins thing), and he reflects on how in his subjective world, this was the greatest crime Mundus ever perpetrated, even more so than invading the human realm in the first place. Such a massive debt could only ever have come to one end. (Aaannd title payoff!)

He's just about to roll off into the sunset in dramatic, angsty solitude when Nero says something to the others like, "So where do you suppose those two are, anyway? Can't believe we had to come all the way down here and clean up this mess when Dante and Vergil were already in the neighborhood," and that's all it takes for Sparda to give himself whiplash turning around to gape at his heretofore-unknown grandson.

"But author," the readers interject, "that's a great point. Where are Dante and Vergil all this time? Surely if Mundus revived just a few blocks away, they'd put a stop to it immediately!"

To which the author replies, "Hmm, that sounds like a problem for the sequel to this hypothetical story! Fortunately for me, the ask game that started this whole thing didn't include a sequel provision."
