A tutorial on a (bit cheating) way of creating fictional maps.
Open your editing software (RECOMMENDING Krita, since it's free and it's very good).
Step 1: Google "X country silhouette" and copy it.
Tumblr media
Paste it onto the canvas.
Step 2: Separate the silhouette from the background you copied with it! You can do that by using magic wand selection tool or by making a gradient map with black on 49,9% and transparent on 50% on the slider.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 3: Repeat several times with numerous countries and/or islands, cities, municipalities, communes, continents et cetera.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Combine, mesh, stretch, rotate, mirror - go ham, make it work.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Erase and add.
Tumblr media
Step 6: Have your map outline ready, copy/paste it several times in the same doc on different layers and edit in different ways like biomes, kingdoms, mountains and other.
Step Mountains+: To figure out mountains, make another layer on the doc and do something like this:
Tumblr media
-and then in every polygon you add an arrow.
Tumblr media
Where arrows meet or transfer onto continents, add mountains.
Tumblr media
Color the sea with a couple layers of depth and you're done :D

I made a set of Tolkien inspired fantasy maps of real-world locations including Scotland, the UK and Ireland, Europe, New England and North America for fun but turns out people like using them in their games so, here's how you can find them!
You can download copies of all these maps for free with or without labels for printing or use in your TTRPGs over on my Tumblr page here:
Fantasy Maps in a Tolkien Style
You can also buy prints of these maps on my Redbubble page :
If you would like to use these in a commercial project, drop me a DM and I'd love to chat!

Some "minor" things from the Carlos Luna summary that have popped up in Junior Year:
the original Shrimp Party
Fig never going to class
Porter telling Fig she's good at rage
I assume these things got mentions in the summary specifically because they reappeared in Junior Year, so I combed through the video again looking for more "unnecessary" details...
General weirdly specific stuff:
we see Madam Silvaine's character card, even though she's a very minor NPC
the gang maybe went a bit too far while interrogating Biz
Gorgug was fed a flower by Telemaine
Ragh was hooking up with Fathethriel
Fathethriel helped Aelwyn trick the Bad Kids
Arianwen:
Arianwen taught at Hudol
frequent focus on Arianwen and her character art
Gilear:
Gilear couldn't become the guidance counsellor because Jawbone got that job
Gilear was living in Hallariel's garage
Gilear briefly died
Fabian was having visions of turning Gilear-esque in the future
we haven't seen Gilear in a while huh? everyone forgot him
Gilear was in the wheel well
"Fig's dads have the worst luck" (direct quote)
Gilear finds the sin armors, refuses to put on the kink armor
Gilear dies twice in Hell
Gilear has to stay out of the Forest of the Nightmare King because they can't keep spending their diamonds revivifying him
after saving the day, Gilear got a little proud in the pride armor and died
Those sure are a lot of minor details about a character who hasn't been in Junior Year since his brief appearance in episode 3, huh?

Mana: Land of the four seas and home of the Riptide Pirates
Other versions without the ocean color under the cut!

The islands are not exactly to scale, but I wanted to make sure they were visible. I’ll try to make edits as they visit more islands to try and keep this updated!
And click for the details! Tumblr loves eating the quality

So, gamers, worldbuilders, writers, and whoever else may be interested in fake maps: please note that the very finest in fake maps for your fantasy world would be:
Tumblr media
(little TA-DA noise)
COW SPOTS.
Also, the map can be reversed from brown-land and white-water to brown-water and white-land. Either one is a complex and compelling world. Throw a few mountain ranges in there and a desert or two; Boom! I give you, the Isle (sea, continent, enchanted land) of Guernsey.

For as long as I can remember, one of my favorite things in fantasy writing and reading, is the map in the beginning of the book.
My friends and I always make the joke, you know it will be a good story when there is a map in the beginning!
So imagine my happiness when I discover Inkarnate and can unleash the creative part of me who loves fantasy maps and world building!
That is what this blog is dedicated to!

I was recently reminded of the existence of this artwork, so I'll make a quick post about it. I had a very large version of the picture allowing t scrutinize little details - but unfortunately the size limit of Tumblr shrunk the picture.
This is the map known as "The Land of Make Believe", the most famous work of Jaro Hess - a collection of more than sixty references to various fairy tales, nursery rhymes, pieces of children literature and European legends, collected together in the shape of one fantastical and magical land. It was published in the early 1930s.
I will leave under the cut a complete list of all the places described and named on this map (a bit more than sixty in total):
Here the North Wind lives
Bluebeard's Castle
Here lives Peter Pan
Rip Van Winkle
Do not go in here
Here Little Miss Muffett was terribly frightened
Red Riding Hood's Grandmother's house
Jack Sprat - His house
The dilatory ship that never comes in
The Water Babies live here
Here the old man caught the golden fish
Dapple Gray Poney she rode him through the mire
Little Boy Blue fast asleep
The city of many towers where the beautiful princess lives
The castle of the giants
This is the cow that jumped over the moon
The city of brass
Jack the giant killer's house
Simple Simon met the Pieman here
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
The Pied Piper of Hamelin
The Crooked Man lives in his Crooked House
Mary and her Little Lamb
The black hen who laid eggs for gentlemen
Old Mother Hubbard's place
Bo-Peep's sheep
Contrary Mary's garden
Jack and Jill went up this hill
Here fairies dance in the moonlight
Here the Old King Col lives and the fiddlers three occasionally fiddle
Enchanted woods
Bottomless lake
Here is a desert
High tower where the little lame prince was locked
This house belongs to Grandfather-know-all
Magic carpet
The glass mountain
The wonderful Moo-Moo bird
The Emerald City of Oz
Long, Broad and Swift Glance
Do not walk near the edge!
Hansel and Gretel find the gingerbread house
Here the black bird picked off the maid's nose
Peter Rabbit lives in this hole
Here are the Babes in the Woods, covered in leaves
The shoe here the old woman lives
Little Bo Peep is looking for her sheep
The Wandering Jew
Tom-Tom the piper's son ran this way
Here the mermaids play
The Squall Fish
In this place there are peculiar fishes
The mysterious island
The path that leaves to no place eventually
The house that Jack built
Cinderella lives here
The castle where the Sleeping Beauty sleeps
Humpty Dumpty had that great fall here
The talking bird
The old witch lives here
West of the moon
East of the sun

I don't usually share my maps for worlbuilding projects, but this is the first time I've made a city map without tools like Inkarnate or other similar tools and I'm really happy with how it turned out. That and it's been a while since I talked about my pathfinder homebrew lol.
Torebli is a city in my homebrew pathfinder setting Sauvias, within the kingdom of Heralia. It is surrounded by rainforest and wetlands (across the lake depicted on the west of this map). While a fairly diverse city, it has the largest population of the semi-aquatic Axoli people and as such, has several residential districts partially submerged in the lake.
Every year during the spring time, Torebli is host to The Festival of Flames (working title lol) - a celebration honouring a hero from the ancient draconic wars in Sauvias's history (I'm keeping it vague because some of the players in the campaign I'm planning to run follow me on here and this festival is connected to the story).
[ID: An illustrated, top down map of a medieval city along a lake shore. The city's wall and several of the buildings extends into the water, and around the city on land is dense forest. In the bottom right is the name of the city, Torebli, and in the top right is a compass rose to indicate that north is towards the top of the image. /End ID]

the current map for all of Valloroth! it's very much a living thing, but I like how it looks for now.
made in Azgaars Fantasy Map Generator, which invented all the distances for me, so all I had to do was measure them and work out how long it takes my collection of weirdos to get from one place to another.
i also have a version of it in my obsidian notes, so I can (eventually) link all my world notes to it, cause i think that'll be neat
some fun notes, to give a smidge of context to some of these places:
Zander is from Invereid
Aliyne & Vren are from Mohaade, originally from a small town near the border mountains of the Wilds
Leshanna was born in Osevia, but grew up in Oraladhel, and attended the very prestigious university in the capital, Cyvanil
Voi'xindiiri is where Sorrow's main Vallorosian contacts are
Iaseri is a dracari enclave, though it's mostly in the capital of Voah'kasis, which is a floating city
Ashen-rir is the first (only) above-ground dark elf-founded state
Fygek is the goblin homeland, and it's largely closed off to outsiders
The Wilds used to be the main seat of the Draconic Empire, until Ruvosha the Green (one of the Original Dragons) destroyed it and raised the mountains that now block the Wilds from the rest of the world
Valloroth taglist: @cherrybombfangirlwrites @memento-morri-writes @foxboyclit @lawful-evil-novelist @at-thezenith @morganwriteblr @fayeiswriting (ask to be +/-)
