Want to draw a world map but don't have any ideas? Just grab a piece of blank paper and open up a new minecraft world. Start exploring it and mapping it out and just use that!
Behold, my hand-drawn map of Empires Season 2!! This was my first time trying to make something like this and I’m so happy with how it turned out!!! I spent dozens of hours hand drawing every part of it and it was so worth the effort 😁 All the empires’ names are lettered by hand and each Empire has both a stained-glass token of an iconic build and a Spawn-inspired tower to represent it 🤩✨👑
It’s also HUGE! I had to start exporting parts individually and reassembling the map on my computer because it got too big for my iPad 😆 I wanted to it to be big enough to get a high quality print for my wall — I can’t wait for it to arrive! If you’re interested in getting one it’s up on my print shop here with 15% off and a variety of sizes to choose from!
I’m gonna reblog it soon with a whole bunch of closeups because I packed so much detail and love into this one <333 Let me know what you think!!
PSA: Mapmaking / cartographic brushes for Photoshop
I just want to point people at these (which are beautifully made and organized!) from @kmalexander.
I'm working in a different idiom of mapmaking at the moment—more USGS-modeled than anything else, as my ultimate goal is constructing a whole alternate-Earth planet that'll look good viewed from space—but these would be fabulous for other things. And they're CC0-licensed, and free!
If you're at all into digital mapmaking, particularly for imagery meant to go with fantasy or historical works, you should have a look at these.
This week, my party will embark on an epic journey that combines the chilling tale of "Rime of the Frostmaiden" with the exciting "Light of Xaryxis." I've been eagerly waiting for the perfect moment to merge these two incredible stories, and with the awesome group I have, I decided the time had finally come. To kick off our adventure, I've crafted some detailed maps that will immerse us into the heart of the narrative. Get ready for an unforgettable campaign that promises frosty mysteries and radiant quests, all within a single, thrilling saga! Stay tuned for updates as the journey unfolds. And if you're interested in the one-shot I wrote for these maps, I'll be releasing the pdf later this week after our session.
Last time I did a huge, time consuming fan project I posted WIPs!! Here are some for you of what I’ve so far spent 20 hours working on…
These are both teeny tiny crops of the whole image and there is a ton of detail still to come. I’ve never tried to make anything like this before and I think it’s one of the coolest fanart projects I’ve ever made!!!
I love when people ask me if I would ever consider making maps on paper. That’s how I started! I didn’t start creating digitally until 2018 and still enjoy occasionally just doodling on paper. For anyone wondering, that’s a Copic .003 pen inside a red foam tube to make it easier to hold.
“You've been travelling for what seems likes hours into the deep woods. Every tree looks the same as every other and you swear you've passed that same rock at least five times now. Perhaps a clearing and a break in the tree cover will allow you to find your way and it is at this clearing that you spot something unexpected. An old archway covered in vines that radiates light from within. Beyond it is not the forest that surrounds you, but some place else...”
