Episode recap:
What women did for the guys they loved:
Skye: Sacrificed her own chance of happiness with Josh to help him get Kara over to Terra Nova, risking her own secrets in the process.
Alicia: Shot Taylor. (More romantic than it sounds, somehow.)
What guys did for the women they loved:
Mark: Checked on Maddy when he knew she would be upset, and risked going against his commanding officer in order to help Maddy get answers.
Jim: Intentionally gave Elisabeth a cold. (And I promise you, the scene was Peak Romance.)

digging out my eah content part 4: the kittycorner (ba-dum-tss)
ID: a set of sketchy digital drawings featuring kitty cheshire. the first five make a short comic. one: kitty earnestly slow-blinks; her catlike eyes are bigger and shinier when she opens them. two: a bemused lizzie hearts playing with her deck of cards asks, “...huh?” three: embarrassed, kitty blurts, “nothing. bye.” and disappears. four: lizzie waves after her, still confused as she replies, “oh--bye???” five: maddie hatter pops up behind lizzie, blushing and delighted, exclaiming, “oh my, kitty!”  six: kitty lounges on a tree branch, smiling mischievously, one paw-like hand raised near her face as she says, “y’know, like nya” with a cat-shaped speech bubble. off-screen, indicated by a wolf-shaped speech bubble, cerise replies in all-caps: “stop.” seven: a grinning bust of kitty in a less cartoony style winks at the camera. end ID.

My 911 hills I will die on:
Eddie Diaz is gay
Buck has ADHD- the writers could come knocking on my door and tell me that he’s not and I still would argue with them with a PowerPoint and everything
The Buckley parents deserve to go straight to hell and their redemption arc makes me foam at the mouth (negative)
More on that: the insistence of a show that is so deeply rooted in the concept of found family to constantly give shitty parents redemption arcs is so irritating
Maddie Buckley didn’t raise buck since she was 9 years old while dealing with her own trauma or give him her jeep and money (AKA HER LITERAL SAFETY NET TO ESCAPE HER ABUSER) just so people can sit there and call her a bad sister -I’m a Maddie Buckley defender and I stand by that
Both sides were flawed with the lawsuit thing and neither should be too harshly judged- Bobby kept buck out when buck already proved himself but he was doing it out of protectiveness in his own flawed way because let’s be honest he just saw the guy he considers a son nearly die in front of him three times in one year and saw the PT and toll it all took through the whole process and keep in mind he’s already lost 2 kids already but buck also shouldn’t have sued impulsively or disclosed such intimate information and should’ve tried to take a more rational approach but let’s also be fair and remember this is the guy THAT DID GO THROUGH ALL THOSE THINGS IN THAT SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME like no one would be okay mentally, no one would be rational, not when you spend a shit ton of time to recover only to be told (in his brain at least) that it’s not enough from someone you not only consider as a mentor, friend and father figure but also the same person who was motivating you through your recovery
The way Shannon spoke about Christopher’s cerebral palsy will never not rub me the wrong way I’m sorry to any who love her
The way Natalia spoke about bucks death is also just a no from me
I actually hated the whole thing with Hen and the madney engagement like idk why the writing felt it was appropriate to try to compare Hen CHEATING (granted it was ooc and in season one) with Maddie suffering postpartum depression make it make sense- they could’ve had the same level of hen and chimney friendship moment/ hen looking out for him without doing this type of thing which just made me a little angry with hen while watching it but ultimately deciding this storyline doesnt exist in my brain

Not ABC 🤡ing by ...
... bringing back the middle-aged and stagnated "See me!" couple (originally from the episode in which also featured Buck discovering what love is from an old gay couple named Thomas and Mitchell) who are, once again, not actually (despite appearances) on the same page about their relationship (directly juxtaposed by Buck's pseudo parents) immediately after Buck started dating a woman who he thinks 'sees him' (a notion to which Eddie, if only physically, vehemently rebuked) only to have him broken up with her in the interim of the network switch because she wanted to keep him in a morbid stagnation (which Eddie was happily welcomed to learn) and they had Eddie enlist Buck, not Marisol (who volunteered herself to help chaperone Christopher's date), when Christopher needed advice on girls which Buck ended up not being able to actually help with whilst their talk led to Eddie and Christopher reaching greater acceptance about Shannon's death all in their first episode and stealthily establishing that Maddie also speaks Spanish so she can have semi-private conversations with her would-be future brother-in-law and nephew in the future while not even mentioning Marisol in the second episode.
Next, they're having Tommy come back for a helicopter rescue, and, from a glimpse that we saw in the promo, Eddie might have flashbacks to his traumatic past in the army because of it and who's right next to him this time around? Buck. My Charles/Thomas/Mitchell-named characters being in pivotal Buddie/Dickl(e)y episodes theory has yet to be wrong and it looks like that will still hold up with ABC's third episode.
... Never mind the increase in teasing and grounding touches and the intriguing goads in interviews like we were never given so vociferously when the show was a FOX production.

So wait, what’s the range on how long EQ has been in prison for wonderland. 1 year? 5? 7? In the show the characters that escape seem the same age as we currently see them, but I vaguely remember in the books being implied for longer than that.
If you don’t have an answer that’s ok, your seemingly episodic memory of the franchise amazes me anyhow.
I mostly just reread the books all the time because I have them illegally downloaded on my phone and I’m planning on taking an English major so I just have a good memory / analyze text like crazy. Also like the literacy of teenage girls who have unhealthy obsessions? Is surprisingly good.
Anyways this is always something that confuses me!!!
BECAUSE THEY NEVER SAY HOW MANY YEARS
LIKE MAYBE I NEED TO REREAD BUT MOSTLY THEY TALK A LOT ABT PRECURSE/MIRROR PRISON IN THR SHANNON HALE SERIES AND THE DIARIES AND A LOT ABOUT DURING IMPRISONMENT IN THE SHANNON HALE SERIES / TV SERIES BUT WE NEVER GET A TIMELIME!!!
Anyways the best I can canonically get you is that Lizzie mentions being 3 and the curse not being there and we know that the og 3 wonderlandians had been in ever after since at least freshman year
So basically that’s like an 11 year timespan
I mean we can assume it takes place a bit later bc bunny thought Alistair would ask her out before the curse which implies she was older, but then also her dad probably made Bunny with a human so if things like beastiality work different in wonderland maybe typical dating ranges r different too
Ok now I actually want to analyze it more , I’ll probably reread the first 3 books on my plane ride tmr

Be advised, before y'all send your angry asks, these are my opinions, angry opinions but that's all they are, you're free to have your own, that doesn't mean we have to fight about it. Different people will have different opinions. Let's all just enjoy the show we love.
-----------------------------------
Finally! My heart knows peace! Ughhg I've been so so pissed at the writers and Eddie for being such an absolute Akshat to Shannon.
Eddie himself has never been present for Shannon. Literally or metaphorically. He left for his deployment a week after Christopher was born.
He left his newborn child and his wife alone, granted it was his job. But what if she had postpartum depression like Maddie? Even without that we see how hard it is to care for a newborn child as a couple when Chimney and Maddie had Jeeyun, even with Albert and Anne's help they were overwhelmed. Yes Shannon's mother and Eddie's fault was there but he was the father. Fine, let's leave that.
He wasn't there even Christopher was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Shannon raised her son alone, imagine how scared and broken she must have felt when he was diagnosed, we see how terrified Maddie was when Jeeyun had a fever. But the writers completely disregard anything when it comes to Shannon.
After Christopher was diagnosed, Eddie ran away by enlisting again when he was supposed to be coming home, which he himself admitted, without telling Shannon.
And that scene of him, refusing and asking her to soothe a crying baby Christopher while she's literally telling him he shouldn't be a fucking stranger to his own kid? He looks at her like it's a punishment, don't anybody dare say he was overwhelmed, she was way beyond overwhelmed and he was basically refusing to be a goddammit father to his own kid. As if it was her responsibility alone to take care of the child that she had WITH HIM.
Her mother was dying from cancer, fucking cancer and he didn't even try to comfort her, at all. When she asked him to leave, he used that his family was gathered to celebrate his return as a reason that they can't leave now, no he said it wouldn't look good so they shouldn't leave now, not even you go first we'll catch up, he didn't even want her to go, he just wanted her to stay and take care of Christopher and him while he can go be a hero. Her mother was dying from relapsing cancer and he didn't even care.
What on earth did he think was going to happen? Was he expecting Shannon to wait until her mom was dead?
He had some right to be upset when she left, some. But he had to have seen that coming with now dismissive he's been of her feelings, and that her mother was fucking dying and he didn't want to leave Texas so she can take care of her and he has the audacity to blame her for it.
The fact that he was never been there for her for Christopher's diagnosis of CP, or after, to comfort HER, imagine how hard that must have been on her, alone, her mother battling cancer on one side, her child have cerebral palsy on another side and her husband never being present? Can't imagine how family was very keen to console her with the way they speak of her even after Shannon's death.
I imagine Shannon's mother died in the two years she was gone from Eddie and Christopher's lives, if the show mentioned it directly I might have missed it. But the point is Shannon had to LEAVE her child with his father so he can FINALLY start being a FATHER, and she dealt with her mother's battle and succumbing to cancer, ALONE. With no one to turn to, she was an orphan, even when she had a so called husband and a son.
And when she comes back what does Eddie do? He tries to keep her away from seeing her child like she's the one who's done all the sins. He waited and she never came back and he's mad at her for it? Oh did it ever even occur to him that there's another option, that maybe he could, you know, visit her? Maybe? Would it have killed him to do so? Would his entire family die if he like VISITED, not even moved but visited her, ONCE? He was oh so ready to up and leave Texas to Los Angeles when it for him but not when Shannon HAD TO?
The DOUBLE STANDARD here is off the charts.
He only calls her when he needs her to admit Christopher to school, he never tried to contact her before that, he never TRIED ANYTHING, from his end to fix their relationship that he himself broke piece by piece by breaking Shannon piece by piece.
Don't even get me started on once she comes back, and gracefully does what is needed for Christopher, because she fucking loves her child. And is even willing to apologize to him for what she did when he's the only one who should be apologizing.
But no an apology is not enough for him, he keeps her away from Christopher, he makes her beg him to let her see her own child, he doesn't even have custody over him. He justifies it by saying she abandoned them both? Then what the fuck was it that Eddie did when he reenlisted the moment Christopher was diagnosed? He himself admits later to Buck I think that that was him running away. And yet be has the audacity to punish Shannon for it? When she's the only one who stayed the whole time? Before being forced to leave to care for her dying mother, alone because whiny Eddie doesn't want to leave Texas and his family, boohoo.
Eddie makes it all about Christopher, he sure loves to hear that he's a good father when in truth he didn't even know the first letter of the word before he forced Shannon to leave Christopher with him. Eddie only started being a father to him AFTER SHANNON LEFT.
Eddie then "somehow ends up with her in bed" every time they talk, oh yeah somehow and he doesn't know how it happened at all. But when Shannon thinks that this, him taking her to his bed each time is him finally stopping gatekeeping her from her own child, he has the audacity to the ask if SHE thinks it's a transaction, that she sleeps with him and he let's her see HER SON, I'm sorry sir what the fuck else would she think? When her husband suddenly starts bedding her, of course she thought he finally let her back into her own fucking marriage. But no he just wants the sex but he wants her to stay away from her son cause she deserves to be punished for her sins, which he has committed teen folds.
But no she apologizes again. And he acts like he such a saint and it's a huge sacrifice that he's doing for his son when he FINALLY lets her see her son, that too only after Christopher asks, so no matter how long she kept begging him to let her see Christopher, he wouldn't have, but he sure would have loved to have sex with her the whole time. How is that not him taking advantage of his power over her, which is access to Christopher and using it to use her body. That's manipulation.
He loves Christopher, that's obvious, but it's also obvious that he doesn't even like Shannon but wants her body and wants her to always take care of Christopher and do nothing else ever.
He never once asked Shannon how she was feeling, he never once cared, to ask that. Not even Christopher was diagnosed, not when her mother had a cancer relapse, not when she came back for Christopher's school after her mother's death, he didn't ask her anything about her at all, about how she was feeling, as a result of his actions. She vouched for the ask admittance, that's it. He asked her to sneak out of his bed after having sex, by deceiving her, so that their son wouldn't see her, Christopher didn't even know she was in the same city as them. Eddiegot his sex from her, that's it, now she should leave and not be seen by their son, he got what he wanted and that's all that matters to him. She should never expect anything back for it, she could never, even when she desparately needed him, he didn't give her anything, he abandoned her first, again and again, he expected her to be always a wife and a mother but he was never a husband to her, he wasn't even a father until she left, she was alone in her marriage, Shannon was a married single mom. What pisses me of more is that he used their son to do it, he used their son to punish her, and when she asked for a divorce because he's a fucking shitty, absent, negligent husband who won't give her anything other than sex, he had the gall to be offended and angry at her for it, even after she died.
Of course the writers killed her off, she's better off dead than being married to him.
In season 5 I think, he finally brings her up and the fact that he kept her away from their son, he says he thought did it to protect Christopher, cause he didn't want him to be hurt by his mom leaving again but she didn't want to leave, she wanted them to come with her but who said no to that? Oh no must be someone else. He continues saying to he was really don't it to protect himself? Seriously? I wanted to reach into the screen and bang his head against the table. If anyone needed protecting in their marriage it was Shannon, from his emotional negligence and later manipulation by using Christopher to use her body.
Don't get me started on his dating Ana, she was amazing, in general and to Christopher, and to Eddie, which he didn't deserve one bit. Some people find this storyline boring and I agree but that's not the point. He was so sweet to Ana, so caring to not overload her or overexpect from her, I don't remember which episode it was or what it was about but Eddie said something like I don't want to spring that on you or something that essentially translated to I don't want to ask you to do that cause you shouldn't have to and it wasn't even a big thing. Yes she was his new girlfriend and all but he has never showed even 5% of that care or concern for Shannon, he never had a problem expecting anything and everything from her. He settled with Ana cause she was taking care of Christopher and him, he wants a girl to take care of him, perform her womanly duties while he lounged and prided himself on how great a father he is.
I can't say the writers don't know how to write a healthy relationship either. Cause Chim and Maddie, Athena and Bobby? Especially Athena and Bobby, cause when Athena's father gets into that accident? Bobby drops everything to go with Athena to go visit and stay with her in her parents house and supports her, granted he was already packed and prepared to leave for the vacation, but he left a very well deserved vacation to go support not only Athena but also her parents in their time of need, even when Athena's mom being very rude. if Eddie had been in Bobby's place he not only would have not cared and thrown a tantrum over how he didn't want to leave his vacation but would've also tried to stop his wife from going to check on her parent at all. That is if Eddie hadn't already guilt tripped Shannon into distancing from her rude mother had she been anything like Athena's, he would have thrown an even bigger victim tantrum about how he didn't deserve it and deserved better, nevermind the dying parent.
So the writers do know how to write a healthy relationship, even one that has problems, the couples overcome them. Eddie was just an undeserving asshole to Shannon. Who deserved far far better than she ever got with Eddie. Christopher deserved his mother, not his father gatekeeping him from her while having sex with her and asking her to sneaking out like a thief.
He's never once shown to realize any of this, how this was all wrong, how much of a double standard he had been utilising, how shitty of a husband he was, how he basically ruined her life. He's shown to be the poor victim who was abandoned by his wife and had to raise his special son alone, nevermind this was of his own engineering from all the negligent husband moves he pulled. Yes he's the victim of course.

Magnitt: I dreamed about you last night
Maddy has never been much of a runner. She prefers the quiet company of a good book to cheering stands and sweaty victories. Today, though, she runs as fast as she can, body protesting every step, as she winds through the dirty streets. Every breath is a struggle, the already-terrible air barely making it into her body (how long has she been crying?), and the uncharacteristic workout forcing it out just as quickly as it comes.
This is dangerous, she knows. Her mom is going to be furious with her for running away like this. But she has to try. She can’t lose anyone else in her family, especially like this.
The building is at the edge of town, less a house and more a small castle. Most people have lived in apartments for decades, so how this woman has managed to hold onto her space, Maddy isn’t sure. It’s dark, with looming towers, surrounded on all sides by a fence twice Maddy’s height. There’s no one in sight, but by the iron gate, there’s a small device that seems to be an old camera. 2050s, maybe, or even older than that. Why on earth would someone who could afford a place like this have tech that old?
After several long seconds, a startled but familiar voice comes out of a speaker by the camera. “Maddy Shannon?”
She’s not quite sure how this works, isn’t sure if anyone can hear her, but she tries, all the same. “Doc-” Her voice breaks, and she takes a shuddering breath, before trying again. “Doctor Magnus, please, can I-can I come in?”
“Of course.”
As if on cue, the gate slowly swings open, and Maddy steps inside, distantly aware of it closing behind her. She’s come by here a handful of times, but only to pass by. Up close, the building looks even older, and even more intimidating.
Just as she reaches the front door, it opens, and she finds Helen Magnus looking back at her with wide, concerned eyes. “What’s wrong?” She ushers her inside, and as soon as the front door closes, Maddy tugs her respirator off, breathing in the clearer air. … Much cleaner, actually, than even in the Shannons’ apartment. It’s incredible, and almost enough to distract her.
Almost.
She hasn’t seen Dr. Magnus in nearly a year, since she stopped working with Maddy’s mother, but she looks the same as when Maddy met her some ten years prior. Good genes, she’d always claimed with a laugh. And lots of moisturizer. She’d laughed at that, but there was a sad twinge to it; Dr. Magnus always seemed to be telling herself jokes no one else understood.
But from a young age, Maddy had known her to be brilliant, and above all, kind. When Maddy had come up to her mother’s work, Dr. Magnus had been more than happy to answer all of her questions about science and medicine, even the ones that made Josh look at her like she was some kind of freak. If anyone could help, maybe it would be her.
“My mom-” she tries, and Dr. Magnus pulls a thin square of fabric from her pocket. A handkerchief, she’d told Maddy long ago. (When Maddy tried to research handkerchiefs, she found only a handful of faded articles, most referencing back to the mid-1900s or even earlier.) Wiping her eyes, she tries again. “My mom was recruited for Terra Nova.”
Gentle understanding floods Dr. Magnus’ eyes (but she doesn’t understand, and Maddy wants to scream, but she’s never quite been able to interrupt an adult). “Ah. That’s a remarkable opportunity; I’ve been chosen myself, you know?” That’s news to Maddy, but not surprising. “I know it will be difficult for you at first, but I believe you’ll do quite well there. All of you will.”
That’s just the problem, isn’t it? “We can’t all go.”
“Oh, Maddy. Your father-”
“Zoe,” she blurts, then freezes. She didn’t mean to interrupt, but she couldn’t help it.
“What?” Dr. Magnus has gone pale now, expression almost frozen. It’s weird; she always seems unflappable, but now, she looks like she’s struggling to breathe as much as Maddy.
“They say it would be-” A fresh wave of tears wells up, and she stubbornly pushes past them. “Rewarding Mom for breaking the law, if they let her bring Zoe. They’re going to put her in the system.”
Horror gives way to something almost terrifying: cold fury, written across Dr. Magnus’ face. It’s something Maddy feels to her bones, but to see it is something else entirely. “I see.” The words are short. Clipped. But she says no more, and a trace of fear curls around Maddy’s chest.
“I was hoping you could do something. I mean, we both know you have… Connections. Power. You can make them change their minds, right?”
Dr. Magnus sighs, eyes falling shut for a moment. “I’ve not held that sort of sway in a very long time.” She sounds exhausted, and much older than she really is. “The governments used to need me, but-”
“Governments?” Plural? The last separate government was swallowed up in 2100. How could this woman have held any sort of power nearly fifty years ago, when she looked younger than Maddy’s mom?
For a heartbeat, Dr. Magnus looks almost nervous, like she’s been caught in something. But then she relaxes, meeting Maddy’s gaze evenly. “Governments,” she confirms, a grin playing at the corner of her lips, as if daring Maddy to argue. And Maddy wants to-truly-but she also just wants her family to be okay, so she says nothing. After a beat, Dr. Magnus continues, “They still appreciate my research, but as for my primary work… The governments of the world dealt with most of that long ago.” There’s a bitter twist to her words that chills Maddy. “Truthfully, I’m not certain they aren’t sending me to Terra Nova so that they don’t have to deal with me anymore. I thought to fight it, but… Perhaps a fresh start is what I need. It’s not as if I have a great deal left keeping me here, and I-” She pauses. Eyes Maddy. “In any case, I truly wish I could help you, but there isn’t anything I can do. I’m so very sorry.”
This isn’t a possibility Maddy had considered. She’d thought, perhaps, Dr. Magnus would be hesitant to bend the rules, and she’d been prepared to beg and plead. But this… This wasn’t supposed to happen. Dr. Helen Magnus can do pretty much anything, or at least, that’s how it has always seemed to Maddy.
Still, Dr. Magnus has apologized, and Maddy’s response is automatic. “It’s okay. Maybe Dad can-” Oh, no.
She freezes, and Dr. Magnus freezes, and everything around her seems to freeze, just like it did two years before. It’s that all over again; Maddy’s family is going to suffer, and lose someone else, only this time, it will be all Maddy’s fault.
“Your father. The one in prison?” Dr. Magnus’ voice is careful. Maddy bites her lip, and says nothing. She can almost see the gears turning in the doctor’s head as she tilts her head to the side, considering. “Your mother intends to free him.”
“I didn’t say that,” Maddy says quickly, and Dr. Magnus looks for a moment like she might smile. Then her expression twists into something thoughtful.
“Where, precisely, is your father imprisoned?”
There’s no sense in lying; Maddy has no doubt that Dr. Magnus still has the resources to find this out on her own. “Golad. Maximum security, so, she’d have to be crazy to-” She’s a terrible liar, always has been, but she has to try. It’s the only way to keep her family together. “-to even think about-”
“Madelyn,” Dr. Magnus says, gentle but firm, and Maddy closes her mouth. “It’s quite alright. Believe me, I’d never turn in a mother for protecting her child. In fact…” She does smile now, soft but sure. “I might be able to help you after all. But first, I’ll need to speak with your mother.”

I loved this episode so much. All the characters felt like home. I also love that we got to see Athena in humorous scenes. The panicked struggle putting on the life vest was such a mood. Catch me never on a cruise thank you very much. But also the emergencies were great, the characters connecting was incredible, and those emotional beats with Shannon were just so heart wrenching. I loved every minute of this episode.

I just had a fever dream and I'm trying to write it down before I forget:
Shannon was back but she was a ghost that only Buck could see and for some reason Buck was also Maddie and Shannon was telling him/her about how they had to be there for Christopher and help out Eddie with raising him but she was trying to push them together romantically and saying that Buck and Eddie being together would be just the same if not better for both parties because they already spend all their time together and it makes the most sense. She also brought up the will and Buck who again was Maddie for some reason tried to argue that it wouldn't be the same because it's two guys not a guy and girl and there would be some differences both in how they date and intimacy wise and s/he keeps going back and forth with Shannon about whether it's the same or not. I have no idea how we got to this point but then Shannon brought up the Ring Around The Rosie song and Buck who was Maddie said "Pocket full of posies" but s/he pronounced it as "paw-zees" and Shannon tried to correct him/her with the proper annunciation and Maddie who was Buck tilted her/his head and said "Oh I'm sorry, I thought it was the same. Are you saying it's different?" And Shannon glared at him/her but before she could say anything else I woke up to someone calling me...
Don't ask. I don't know either
