first up we have yves, the fashion icon

8/10 yves always slays

i like his jacket it’s got some texture around the edges. but the plaid(?) pattern on his jacket also adds some kind of extra 🤌🏻

i also like the necklaces. they don’t look too chunky..? the bracelets and the rings are cool too! and i love his cat choker lol

overall, yves’ outfit is harmonious and it’s not too much to look at if you know what i mean i think his pink aesthetic works really well for him too

next we have clavis the leopard guy

his score is higher since he’s showing titty. the ruffles on his shirt add some nice texture. they didn’t go too heavy with the accessories but i think that’s a good thing because the print is already enough.

idk why twins are so fun to have in a story. i love how they’re mirrored. anyways i love that their animal crest is a pin, it’s a subtle detail. again, not too heavy on the accessories and that allows the designs to stand out and not make it feel heavy.

i kinda like the jewels and the chains design tbh but maybe that’s an unpopular opinion

their outfits look like nct u make a wish outfits. i would’ve loved to see this on leon

back when i was in the kpop fandom, jaehyun was my bias and seeing the twins’ fits reminded me of jaehyun so maybe my rating and thoughts are biased

the base is black which fits him, but there’s only a smidge of red?? how come everyone else got their usual colors for their outfits but not leon?? yves is pink, clavis is purple, the twins are literally drenched in their signature colors, chevalier looks normal in white… so why is it just leon who looks so foreign and weird???

i absolutely love the black, red, and white combo but this ain’t it. i think it should’ve been more black and red with white, rather than black and white with a little red… also they’re obsessed with leon in turtlenecks and i think that’s funny but why not change it up a bit?

and that monstrosity on his shirt, the huge ass lion face 💀 it’s just really not it, it’s quite tacky in my opinion. it just doesn’t work. also that necklace is just so random. it looks like the type of necklace you make when you're young and you bead whatever you can on the string.

I was at Paris N2 and I know the berry dress isn't the favorite as far as i can see on social media but I personally found it mesmerizing in the venue. I was surprised to see such a bold color and it was so funny to hear the collective gasp and ooohhh my section let out when we saw it lmao then there was a minute when people were debating if it was pink or red.

It was truly mesmerizing during the August run because I felt like it matched well with the colors on the stage and on the screen while still making her pop out so she was also very visible. Looking back at my videos, it also matched with the colors on the bracelets. And it made the MTR moment at the end of the stage even more dramatic for me because with everyone else wearing black, she popped out so much (in the thumbnail of my video, it almost looks like she's covered in blood tho lmao). Seeing it live is probably making me biased about it but i was very meh about it during Cardigan and ended up in awe of it at the end of the set

Now those 1989 outfits however... seeing the orange and purple one live didn't really help me like them lol We were wondering during the show if there was a reference we were missing re the choice of all those colors. The silhouette was familiar to us but why these colors specifically and why these combos? I'd love it if we ever get insight from her or her stylist about the thoughts behind her tour outfits and all those choices because i'm soooo curious

And lastly, i finally was able to pre order your book today! I am VERY excited to read it. When we got back from N2, my friend and I kept refreshing your page for your thoughts about the new versions, your are a staple in our "swiftieness" so we are very excited about the book!!

let’s talk about it: bts’ closets

It’s late lol and I was inspired by Sunny @minisugakoobies latest poll about borrowing BTS’s clothes, but it got me thinking hard about their actual style and how great it is!! I feel like they all have such distinct personalities that come through in the way they dress, and if I had all the money (and style sense) in the world, here are the outfits from each member I would want to steal:

Namjoon

Can we just talk about the yellow daisy shirt? Because it’s literally fucking perfect. I think I love it almost as much as I love Namjoon, and I love that man. It’s the perfect piece that adds some interest without making too much of a statement, and it’d look so cute styled with so many other things. i love that he matched the shoes to it too. If I saw anyone wearing this, I would offer to wife myself immediately. The second outfit? I would steal it bc I literally have it. I have it and I wore this same combo - sneakers, plain shirt, grey long coat, and jeans to the art museum. So Namjoon is basically my boyfriend already you see.

Seokjin

Lowkey, I feel like we don’t give Seokjin enough credit for his sweatshirt collection. He has one of the best sweatshirt collections among the members. think it’s his staple piece, and it totally fits the cosy boyfriend vibe he exudes. Like what other man looks as equally adorable and hot wearing a fluffy bear on their shirt? Let me know. I like how he pairs them with both trousers and jeans depending on the mood of the outfit, esp as someone that loves sweatshirts too. Every once in a while though, he busts out a piece like the jacket in the second pic and I have to pick my jaw up off the floor bc I NEED IT.

Yoongi

If there’s one word I’d use to describe Yoongi wearing anything, it’s effortless. He could be wearing a paper bag and look like he walked off a runway. I like how his casual sense of style really showcases how beautiful he actually is. Like the outfit in the first pic is so simple, but he’s literally glowing in it?! Proof that self-confidence goes a long way. Also we just need to talk about the LV sweatshirt bc he pulls it off even though it’s not his typical style, and I love the pop of color in an otherwise plain outfit (would I wear it on the first day of class if I was still in college? yes)

Hoseok

No bc let’s actually talk about it: Hoseok is a fashion god. I’ve never come across anyone with a better eye for style than him. He’s bold, expressive, and not afraid to take risks and I love that. He can take the most cacophonous pieces and somehow make them work. Like if you step back and look at the first outfit - none of those pieces should work together. At all. But they do bc he knows how to blend patterns and colors. Also making a bold claim that this man knows his way around some denim bc it looks so good on him - the way he pairs navy on navy in the second fit without it looking like a Canadian tuxedo is beyond me (I NEED THOSE PANTS!).

Jimin

We can’t even talk about Jimin without talking about his iconic Chelsea boots and leather jackets. We love a man who knows the value and importance of styling outfits with statement pieces in mind. Also proof of how a well-made good quality garment can stretch a long way when it comes to style. But also?? Can we talk about his accessories?? Bc they’re wonderful. From the hat to the cute bag in the first fit - he really puts thought into the details and those little things are what pulls his outfit together.

Taehyung

I know I said I’d steal Namjoon’s clothes, but these pics of Tae have me rethinking my vote entirely. Tae’s style is driven by such a strong creative vision - he knows the look he wants to execute and he delivers on theme every single time, despite how different the two outfits are. I’m in love with the patterned shirt from the first outfit that breaks up the blocks of color (thought out like a true artist Mr. Vantae). And then the paint splotches on the second outfit? Amazing. Also big ups to Tae bc he supports sweater vests and I am the number one sweater vest enthusiast (they make everybody look cute and cosy).

Jungkook

As someone who wears scrubs most of the day, I really support Jungkook’s mission to be as comfortable as possible at all times. Who said looking good has to be uncomfortable? I’ve been freaking out over the jeans in the first pic ever since I found out Jeon Jungkook existed - they elevate the outfit while still keeping the look very boyfriend bc of the stripes on the side (as the proud owner of some two-toned denim myself). And then the hanbok!! Jungkook predicted how matching sets would be all the rage a few years before it happened! A lowkey trendsetter >>>

🔍 – when you two match it makes him incredibly happy, even if he's not in a skirt or dress as well. one of his favorites is when you both have different outfits but in matching colors!

🔍 – it gives shuichi a big confidence boost to think that he looks so good with someone as stylish as you out in public. he usually only holds your hand or links your pinkies, but when you two are matching he'd be more than happy to be a bit more bold and keep an arm around your waist. maybe even kiss your cheek a few times, you never know, shuichi gets spontaneous when he gains confidence!

💡 – miu is definitely into dressing up with you!!! she's got incredible confidence in both her rockin' bod and yours, so she'd definitely hype up whatever choices you make!

🎲 – kokichi's favorite outfits are ones that are exactly the same. if he wears a purple dress, you have to wear one too. if he wears a tank top with an ankle length skirt, you have to wear the same. if you don't, he'll whine and cry his infamous crocodile tears until you say yes.

🎲 – once you start giving him some of your skirts and dresses to wear, kokichi will take it as an invitation to raid your closet whenever he feels like. you don't even have to suggest anything to him, he'll come walking out of your closet with your clothes and ask you which looks best on him.

🎲 – there was a time he tried to pull a prank on you by splattering a plain white dress with purple and black paint. kokichi will say he wasn't the slightest bit surprised that you asked him to do it to an identical dress, he obviously always had impeccable fashion taste and knew exactly what he was doing, but he'll get all flustered and giddy when you two go out in your matching paint splattered dresses.

Hiromi, the animator

So we've got a one-off character, Hiromi, and she's got impeccable vibes. I love her glasses with the short hair, and the flattering shirt and pants combo really sell it for me. The bold color blocking really works for the show, and for the time period.

I have to address that it's been pointed out that Rebecca Sugar looks like this animator, which I think is a compliment to both.

Anyways, she's very cute and I love the details that even one-off characters get. I'll definitely get into more of them as we go on, but this is a good taste, and she's always had a special place in my heart.

“How long did this take you?”

have you noticed any particular trends in the polls so far? like i keep seeing polls where green and blue options are WAYYYY ahead of yellows browns and oranges for example! curious to know if anything like that has caught your eye as you run these :)

thank you so much for this fantastic question! 💕 I've talked about this a little before here, but I mostly discussed structural features and when polls break containment, and didn't focus so much on color there, so I shall gladly do so here! 🥰🥰

(put it below the cut bc it got long – oops! 😅)

I mentioned briefly in that previous post that bold colors can either really sink an outfit or really bolster it, and I think that's still true, but I would also now add on that bold color combos specifically often tend to do less well. I think this is true for patterns as well, where something really bold is less likely (in general) to do well than something more subtle

I do also agree that there seems to be a general trend toward cool colors (greens, blues, and purples specifically), especially when paired with a warm color. pinks are fascinating to me because they can really be such a toss-up depending on what they're paired with

of course there are other factors at play here too, and garment structure can be just as important as a deciding factor as color. in fact, many people will mention in the notes that they picked a certain garment because of its shape, but would prefer it in a different color (this post is a great example of that). so that's also something that's really interesting to consider, especially given that the original function of fashion plates was often to show off the structure of the garment, and the buyer would select their own colors/fabric

I also cannot claim to have fully answered this question without mentioning that it seems many of us are truly gothic at heart 🖤🖤 black garments (especially those with black lace) tend to do quite well, especially when paired with non-black garments. in fact, this post is an excellent example of a similar phenomenon, where many folks (including myself) acknowledged that the left dress was gorgeous, but could not resist the gothic appeal of the blood red and black birds on the right

of course, my conclusions here come from my general observations and are not based on any sort of systematic study of the results of the polls, so do take everything I say here with a grain of salt! 😅😅

Particularly after 3+ years of dealing with nasty comments from the conservative side of the Star Wars fandom, wearing a tight little cropped knit cardigan and bright red pleated trousers with lots of bare chest on display felt like something of a fuck you and I was here for it. And similarly, I think the silver cardigan/sheer top (!!) outfit from today has a gender line-blurring quality about it. In fact, lol, a friend and I both independently came up with the word "matronly" to describe it (which may not have been the effect Julie or P were going for lol, but oh well). Personally I think I would have liked it better paired with a more tapered trouser or skinny jeans and a slip-on sneaker, just to balance it in a different way.
