historical fashion 👒 👗 👠 🎀
hey y'all! just wanted to drop in and let you know that since I've had a little more time on my hands recently, I created a new sideblog!
it's literally just all silly polls on fashion history where you just vote for what dress you'd rather wear lol
if you think that might be fun, feel free to head on over to @historical-fashion-polls
and if that's not your thing, no worries! this is just a fun little side project for me 🥰
love to you all!!

Disclaimer: I know that some folks continue to wear some or all of these items in the 21st century. This is more asking what you wish would become fashionable again so you could wear it without receiving any second glances from strangers

N.B. the illustration identifies A, C, and D as "wide-awakes of felt and straw," B as a top hat, E as a "nautical hat," F and H as straw hats, G as "hemispherical hat or 'bolinger' (1859)," I as "old-fashioned beaver hat," and J as "cap for country wear." From Handbook of English Costume in the 19th Century by Phillis Cunnington and C. Willett Cunnington.

Welcome to the Period dramas' dresses tournament, here we'll decide which is the best period drama's dress to have ever existed, everyone can submit a dress that fits the different categories we'll be voting:
1. Yellow/golden dresses 2. White dresses 3. Red dresses 4. Black dresses 5. Green dresses 6. Grey/silver dresses 7. Orange dresses 8. Pink dresses 9. Blue dresses 10. Brown dresses 11. Purple dresses 12. Multicoloured dresses
Once every category's best dress is voted, the winner of the tournament will be decided in a poll with the 11 winners of each color.
You can submit via the google forms or tumblr asks (each submission form will last a week)
Submission rules:
You can submit anything that fits the definition below, but it does have to belong to a piece of media that's set in the past (I'd said at least 20 years before the present) and ofc, that has the color of the category we're currently voting
You can submit as many different dresses you like, just don't spam the same dress
Take into account the picture of the dress it's the one others will be seeing when voting, so make sure that it has enough quality & brightness for the dress to be appreciated
Don't forget to write the name of the piece of media & character the dress belongs to
About fantasy show submissions
About animated media submissions - not accepting them!
About theatre/ballet/opera productions submissions
Propaganda is allowed & reblogs are very appreciated!

I have been given an opportunity to buy a beautiful 1860s day bodice in remarkable condition for $85.00. Even though I will probably never wear it it fits me nicely. It’s a lovely silk blend of some kind with green stripes and leaves. I want it so much. But honestly, what am I going to do with it besides occasionally look at it? Shadow box it? Hopefully make a pattern based on it? I’m afraid it’s just going to wallow in a closet.
