Your polls have had the truly wondrous and unexpected side-effect of making me deeply examine my own sense of style (and self). At first I was selecting poll options based not on what I really liked the most, but on what others would expect me to choose/wear. I didn't realise I had these policemen in my head until I ✨dared✨ to choose a dress that wasn't ""me"" but that I deeply, secretly loved the look of. And now I'm thinking about bringing this new perspective into my irl style. So – thank you!!

as someone who has only relatively recently started dressing in a way that is really reflective of my internal sense of style, this absolutely resonates with me. as might be expected given the fact that I run a historical fashion blog, my style can be a little "out there" by modern standards, and I definitely spent a lot of my life curtailing my natural fashion inclinations and settling instead for a sort of tepid middle ground. however, after I started grad school post-pandemic, I basically decided that I no longer gave a fuck if people thought I was "weird" (tbh the autism diagnosis helped with this too lmao 😅), and I just started buying and wearing clothes that I actually felt really really excited about
as a random anecdote, a professor I was TA-ing for saw my outfit one day and she said I looked like I was dressed for a victorian funeral and DAMMIT I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE THRILLED!! I would love to give off the vibe of someone who is attending a victorian funeral, even if it might seem kinda "weird" to some people. that's a kind of joy I just never really experienced when I just felt kinda meh about my clothing
anyway, sorry for the long personal ramblings – what I'm really trying to say in all this is that I support you 10000000% in your style journey and I'm am so so so thrilled that my little blog could play even a small role in it ☺️☺️

hey! just got back from the fashion exhibit and it was super cool! they had around 10 fashion plates as it was mostly actual fashion on display but they had a lot of ensembles displayed in pairs so idk if u want me to send some of those too anyway im including me and my cousin’s favorite look hope you enjoy and i will def send the fashion plates later :))

no but seriously it's so fucking funny to me that that's how they decided to display that piece 😆😂 I can't say I'm an expert, but I did take a course on exhibiting fashion for my MA and the final for that class was creating a fashion exhibition proposal, so I know how much thought and work and planning goes into deciding absolutely everything about an exhibit, which makes it so much funnier that after all that, this was still the curatorial decision that was made 😆 I mean, it's at least kinda accurate I guess??

another follower celebration?
hello my loves! 💕
I come to you with both good and bad news today
bad news first: we have just over 10 flower children polls left, at which time they shall all return to the gardens and fields from whence they came to continue bringing joy and whimsy to all those they meet
good news: in the meantime, we have hit 2k (!!!! 🤯🤯) and I would love to do another celebration for you all to say thank you!!
my plan is as follows: I've had a number of requests to do earlier fashion periods, and for a lot of reasons, I have limited myself to primarily commercial fashion plates/fashion illustrations (more on that here) and thus the images that I personally source for the blog don't go much further back than the mid-1700s (more on that here). HOWEVER, for our 2k celebration, I will be temporarily lifting some of those restrictions and expanding the time period of the blog!! 🥰🥰
two caveats:
sourcing these types of images takes more time and effort, so I will not be able to keep this up indefinitely (esp since I'm starting my phd program in the fall), but as I get things sorted for the celebration I'll let y'all know how long I'll be personally sourcing images from a more expansive time period and a broader range of sources
you are always welcome to submit images from earlier periods!! I just have to be realistic about what I can personally do in terms of research and sourcing for the blog, but if you have older images you want to see featured, you can send them in at any time!! (all info on submitting images can be found in my pinned post! ☺️)
but now onto what I'm best at: a poll!! I'd like to know what you all would most like to see and what areas I should focus on, so if you have thoughts, please vote in the poll below and let me know! also, some of these responses are vast ranges of time, so if you have a specific year/decade/century within one of the options, please do let me know via tags, comments, asks, etc. 🥰 also I cannot promise that I will be able to find usable images for all of these periods – I mostly want to gauge interest before I go looking for potential images to use ☺️
and yes I did use art historical classifications, please don't judge me it's what makes most sense to my brain 😅🫣
if there is a lot of interest in a specific time period, I'll likely run some more specific polls to narrow in on some key moments of interest, but please do let me know any specific things you might like to see! ☺️
