Six of Crows Book Review
This book has definitely earned most if not all the hype from booktok and booktube channels alike. It was a daring tale and one that I had difficulty putting down. Of course, the following contains spoilers, so if you have not read this book, this is your warning to save and come back to later.
So, when I first started the book, I kinda had my doubts. I've been burned before on books that were hyped up only to fall flat in my opinion. But when Kaz started reaching out to Nina and some of the other members of the crew, I really had to know how things were going to end. Normally I am hooked by the end of the first chapter, but this time, it took a little longer but I am so glad that I stuck it out in the end.
The plot twist was another thing that took me for surprise. I didn't think that Mattias would have fallen even harder for Nina but they make such a cute couple, I think anyways. And if Kaz could get over himself for like two minutes and admit his feelings for Inej, that would be great........ But I understand why he doesn't at first to. He's changed so much, and so has she and Kaz doesn't know how to really let her in. But I have a good feeling about the next book tbh. When he said he was going to "get his girl" I fangirled just a little bit. Because they would be such a power couple!
But the plot is more about the romantic relationships, I mean, they broke into a highly secured prison during a party and made it out. This mission was deemed impossible and yet they managed to pull it off. Were there bumps in the road, sure, but they all made it out in the end.
Well, till they met with Van Eck at the end. Which was another major plot twist that I didn't see coming either. When I brought the duology home, I thought that the two books were two seperate heists that the same characters would be going on, not the second one being a rescue mission. And I so can not wait to start the next book in the future, but there are more books on my TBR list that I have to get to first. And I will be sharing them all with you guys!
Stay tuned while we turn the page to the next adventure!

somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days.
and so I will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale.
I'm not sure if it helps, but it does entertain me

i really appreciate ryoko kui’s subversion of tired anime tropes, mostly a lot of sexual/sexualized ones
the main guy is a freak but not a pervert. just genuinely inflicted with the tism cranked to 100
none of the women are gratuitously sexualized (including the underage ones!!!) and all the panty shots are relegated to senshi, as they should be
the catgirl in the group isn’t some cute ditzy fan service character, but actually acts like a cat in addition to having her own arc and development
any level-headed male in the series respects and listens to the female characters and treats them as people and equals
also despite laios being a kinda blonde white everyman character, he’s easily the weirdest one in the group (and i love him)
