my only criticism right now is that they cut so many of my fave lines and moments. so many important moments, stuff that really make ari’s character, and show his relationship with people around him. i get that they had to cut it bc it’s a movie but in my ideal world director’s cut is a 5 hour long movie that includes ari’s narration

With the Ari and Dante movie inching closer and closer to us everyday I cannot help but be paranoid that they’re gonna water down my beloved Danta Quintana to just having general insecurity or have it mostly be tied to his sexuality rather than having a VAST MAJORITY of his insecurities be directly tied to the fact he is a light skinned, first generation, no sabo, latine with a more privileged status than a majority of his family and the general latine community around him

#when I say he is just like me for real #I fucking mean it #Benjamin Alire Sáenz put a mirror to face and said look when he wrote this character #Dante Quintana single handedly raised the bar for all Latino rep for me #I simplest cannot stand mid tier latine rep anymore #*cough cough* The Owl House *cough cough*#everyone told me to read this book cause of the queer rep and vaguely mentioned the Hispanic side of these boys #but if you are Latine and haven’t read it #do yourself a favor and do so now #it is 10000% a book that if you are not latine you will NOT get in its entirety #it’s why I can’t read fanfiction for this book cause not a single one has actually properly understood Dante’s character #aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe #dante quintana

so, for those of you who don't know, i am working on a sequel to my first novel (which was semi-completed back in 2020). and i have been organizing chapters and pre-written stuff and jesus fucking christ why have i done this to myself

unfortunately, the first book is ALSO undergoing heavy editing - I changed a significant chunk of main protag's backstory, and it turns out something like that can have major repercussions on the current draft! so I am basically in ultimate writer hell where the first book is now back to being unfinished, the sequel is.....well. and i still have the third book in this little weird trilogy looming over my head with absolutely shit nothing to work with except one single 1500 mini-fic and a dream.

anyway, don't let anyone tell you that this writing shit is fucking easy, good god.

(i often wonder if this situation would be different if i was, like, a full time paid novelist or whatever, and then i forget that notion because in my opinion that "dream" job would actually be a living hell, the way i function)

#aaddtsotu #aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe #there is a lot of words...to describe dante... those ain't right tho #so any time we gonna have a bit of a naive character that wants to look at the good in the world they are what...unrealistic?#also hate that phrase because having a 'manic pixie' character means his whole purpose is to serve mc's development #and like they don't have any personality beside the one that's being projected into them #which is just not true for dante #like idk i didn't see the movie but so far it seems close to the book and if that's what you're going for #then wrong #the whole point is that dante is contrast to ari #and ari is constantly comapring himself to him #and wishes he was like him #also i don't trust a single review that puts on aitch how these characters are written when she is a scripwriter and director #'I can only assume they’re relics from the source material that got hacked to bits in translation'#no you just didn't read the book then you'd know they are suppose to be like that my god shuut up

What i need to try my hand at writing is tragedies, i think

#i'm gonna study aristotle <- person who technically should have read poetics for two different courses by now #i did also read ars poetica tho. parts of it.#but i wanna write smth that will leave the reader utterly (heart)broken but with the knowledge that there was NO chance for a better ending #yknow? like when you read Hamlet or Antigone you can say ''if only the protag would have done this or that''#but the point is that it would be OOC for that character. i wanna write smth like that #smth where you're looking at the whole thing and you just Know that was destined for them and there was no other way #but i've never tried writing plays before and it seems scary <- bad at dialogue

He’s so cool!#also it is more fun if you focus on one topic and you see the same people everywhere #I am developing a serious one-sided relationship with Joseph Y. Halpern #just it is fun if you recognise names in general instead of it just being J. Doe (2003)#but hating on Aristotle is what really gets me through the day
