Animal of the Day!
Sculptured Mitten Lobster (Parribacus antarcticus)
Tumblr media
(Photo from Florent’s Guide)
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southern Pacific Ocean
Size (Weight/Length)- 20 cm
Diet- Mollusks; Shrimp; Crabs; Sea Urchins
Cool Facts- The sculptured mitten lobster is a friend-shaped crustacean. Their shovel-like body helps them to hide between rocks. In addition, their large body surface makes it very hard to pry them off a rock, forcing predators to face their tough shell. Over time, algae and barnacles grow on their shell and aides in their camouflage. Unlike the American lobster, sculptured mitten lobsters lack claws. The strange protrusions at the front of their head are actually modified antennae. The antennae are used to dig through sand in search of mollusks to munch on.
Rating- 11/10 (Lovingly called mudbugs.)

Due to the mechanics of my moving mermaid tail I looked into Lobsters and how they swim. As there bodies resemble the structure of my tail. Through my research I actually found out the fascinating fact that Lobsters swim backwords. They pull themselves back to swim.

Austin Butler
Test de plusieurs petites choses, le 1er est totalement inspiré du poster "the lobster" et le 3 et 4 des effets de risographie et des têtes de sculptures antiques comme ce visuel. je trouvais qu'Austin avait totalement le profil pour alors here we go.

Kelly O’Dell spent her first 25 years in Hawai’i, an island formed over a geological hotspot. “I grew up obsessed with my own mortality, right alongside rumbling earthquakes and gurgling volcanoes,” she says. “It is fascinating and devastating that our existence has so much impact on the delicate balance of life. I hope my artwork could serve as a reminder, or ‘memento’ of our borrowed time.”
Captivated by themes of origin, extinction, preservation, and conservation, Lopez Island-based artist Kelly O’Dell explores the ammonite’s elegant form through hot glass sculpture.

Hiii, can you please please please do dating Bridgette Headcannons? Preferably with a Gender Neutral or a Female Reader?
Yesyesyesyesyes YESSS! Would you all believe me if I said Bridgette wasn't one of my faves till I started this blog but now, I LIVE FOR WRITING FOR HER!! SHE'S JUST SO FUN OMG!
More Bridgette Hcs!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^also there making the same face which is ADORABLE OMGGG anyways,
contents: Fem!reader (reader is referred to as lobster mother and as bridgette's gf), I am not endorsing lobster stealing I am just acknowledging it.
I'm gonna start right off with a crack headcannon. You both are the moms to a lobster family stolen from a fancy restaurant Bridgette got a coupon for after winning a sponsored surfing tournament.
They live in a beautiful tank with all the amenities little lobsters would need. Their names are, Susie, Snips, Dive, And dine in.
Dine in is named after the sign hanging next to the tank.
You have nights where you stay inside and test out vegetarian recipes.
If you suck at surfing:
one time after a particularly, uh, 'epic' wipe out of yours, Bridgette felt the need to bring reinforcements, the woman who taught her everything. Her mother. While meeting your girlfriend's mom for the first time ever would usually be anxiety inducing anytime, having her witness you manage to get on the open water and stand on the board, but somehow managing to have the board turn up right and smack you dead in the face before you fell under water is certainly an ice breaker.
^ that story will be told to any member of Bridgette's family learning to surf afterwards. "Oh you're doing fine! At least you're not as bad as Bridgette's girlfriend!"
If you're good at surfing however you get to have loads of aesthetic moments surfing together, think that one scene from Lilo and stitch with Nani and David before lilo and stitch almost drown to death.
Bridgette genuinely is one of the most understanding people you've ever met, if you're uncomfortable with something or someone she'll be there to help make you feel more comfortable.
REALLY likes watching documentaries about marine life with you, cuddling on the couch under a blanket while learning various facts.
Takes you to beach clean ups with her.
I like to think she has various hoodies, both oversized and cropped in her collection to the post she doesn't notice you stealing some of them until she sees you wearing one.
She sucks at ice skating. Like really bad. She falls over every five seconds. So if you are good at skating you get to have her cling to your arm for balance,
But if you also suck, you get to fall ✨together✨
Her love language is quality time, just like how she enjoys taking you to partake in her hobby of surfing. She also loves participating in your hobbies no matter how niche. Making sculptures of chicken heads? She'll make her best chicken head she can, as long as she's spending time with you.
And finally she LOVES it when you kiss her freckles! It gives her butterflies.

I love your mer!Eclipse, and its exciting to hear you were thinking of putting them in a story! I haven't heard of a lighthouse keeper y/n before, nor as a part of a group exploring for shipwreck finds or for a location where there could be treasure the Atlantis movie-style. Keeping a secret from others about having run into Sun or Moon could build up to a breaking point with the other crew- of whatever number that is.
Whether you wanted to have y/n venture into the depths or the mers pushing their boundaries to try and connect more to the surface world (of both!) can help point towards jobs that would best fit. One I for sure haven't seen is a y/n who makes sand sculptures on the beach regularly discovering new, rough sandcastles placed next to theirs that would crumble overnight, and trying to figure out who's doing it because there's always a signature addition- a molted lobster shell, coral, a row of shark teeth around the base like a metal as heck fence, etc
Tumblr media
OHH those are amazing ideas! I think a lighthouse keeper is a good one paired along with a sailor, there are a lot of resources in that job.
With the sand sculpture one?? I can see the reader putting a message in a bottle within one of the washed away sand pieces, and come find it filled with small trinkets the next day.
I can add on with the folklore that can tie in with dense a fog surrounding the area, it's the sea after all!
The Atlantis one is cool as well! Loved the movie in it's theme of the colossal machines, would probably fit an Eclipse

Sculpting Something More {Jimmy Darling x Reader}
Tumblr media
You're a sculptor. Recently you've lost all inspiration, but you hear that Jupiter Florida has a Freakshow. Perfect inspiration.
No A/Ns this time
Your Perspective
⊹˚.⋆ ₊꒷ᘏᘏ︶ଓ︶꒷꒦⊹˚ᗢ₊꒷︶ଓ︶꒷
I pulled my car up by the entrance to the Freakshow. It was a chilly evening, and the sun was setting behind the clown-like door. If it was a door. It loomed over everyone, and I felt slightly intimidated as I held my sketchpad and pencil. Silently, I hoped the freaks would be an inspiration for my creations.
Excited murmurs surrounded me as I walked amongst the crowd. Creaky chairs were sat on, and I found my place at the back. If I stayed at the back, it would look less creepy as I drew. Soon enough, the lights turned off, and a spotlight turned onto a lady with a beard. Wonderful and pretty, but not enough. The show started.
Pinheads. I sketched them in the dark, taking in their facial expressions. Innocence and pure happiness in their smiles. I was sure they would make beautiful sculptures. But my thought-riddled kind didn't think it was enough, I needed something more. Whether it was a dwarf or not.
A voice started singing after a legless lady and a dwarf did an act. I looked up from my doodles to see Elsa Mars. Her voice was shaky tonight, and it was noticed in the crowd. People whispered things to each other. Boos were thrown, as well as the food people bought. It hurt to see honestly. Miss Mars was an extraordinary talent, and I was worried something might have happened backstage.
So as I drew, I sneaked out of the tent. No one noticed thankfully. It seemed they were all too busy hating Elsa. I snuck around to the back of the big tent and saw about 10 tents and caravans. Each one had a unique design and the name of the person who lived there. Perfect. "Hey pretty lady, what are you doing back here?" A voice asked. I looked up as I quickly slammed my notebook shut. It was dark, I couldn't see his face.
"I...um..it was a bit overwhelming in there, and I didn't want to be part of a crowd that hates Miss Elsa Mars. She's a wonderful singer." I chuckled awkwardly. I did feel bad for Elsa. The man took my hand and led me to a small light. His hands felt odd, two...oh, it was Jimmy. The lobster boy. "I can't see you in the dark, but, are you Jimmy?"
"Obvious by my hands." He grinned. "I'm glad you're not scared."
"I come here all the time," I smirked at Jimmy, before opening up a spot in the big tent and watching the Tattler Twins perform. People looked more entranced with them than they did with Elsa. So I opened up my book and sketched their faces quick. "Everyone who performs here is my new inspiration."
"Inspiration?"
"Yeah." I turned back around and pulled out a Polaroid from my pocket. It was small, but it had a picture of a sculpture. The sculpture was of a clown. Dully painted and it looked like it had a mask on. The Polaroid made it look tiny, whereas, in reality, it was just as tall as a bottle. A water bottle maybe.
Jimmy took it and stared at it eagerly. "Did you make that?" I just nodded, still a bit shy of my work.
"I'm hoping to make a bigger one, maybe sell it somewhere. I was going to use one of my sketches of your acts as a way to get people interested. No one seems to like clowns anymore. Not the one I made anyway." I just shrugged, nonchalantly flipping through my notebook and the sketches. But soon enough Jimmy gave me back the picture, and I stuffed it in my pocket once again. Nearly everything had been done, so I was wondering why Jimmy hadn't performed yet. "Are you not doing it tonight?"
"Huh? Oh, na. Ma said to take a break, so I'm watching today. But it seems I got distracted by a pretty face." He winked my way, and I just smiled at him with confidence. Such a smooth talker. I decided to head back, however, I wanted to go back home since I had grabbed all the inspiration I had.
"Well thank you for the conversation, Jimmy. I didn't plan to stay long, so I should be getting home now." We reached my car quite swiftly. In the short silence, he handed me a little slip of paper. A number, like I could make so many calls to this man, and the address of the place. The freakshow had an address? No matter what I thought, I gracefully took it and smiled at him still. Whoops and claps surrounded the area, the show must have ended. "Uh, bye..!" I quickly said to the man as I got in my car and just as swiftly drove off.
"Um...Okay then." I heard him say as I drove off. It felt embarrassing, but I knew I was going to start asking him stupid questions otherwise. To distract myself from my own thoughts, I turned on the radio. Simple songs played, but it was nice as I got myself back home in almost record time.
Once I got home, I rushed myself inside and ran straight up to the studio. It was a small loft, and plenty of shelves engulfed the walls. The light was dim and only made a small difference to the light that the window brought in. In the middle of the room, a table, with a bowl of water on top of it, and a chair scooted next to it. There were plenty of additions to the table and the shelves. A place for my food, and drink. One table opposite my work table, in which I always placed my notebook. The notebook not only held my inspirations but also my final sketched-out piece of work that I would slowly craft.
Once I got everything ready, I settled the Notebook down. It was a finished drawing of Jimmy and Ma Petite. He was sitting down and smiling towards the lovely woman. And she stood on a wood stump, with a doll's crown on her head. Both are beautiful people. Both are hard work. As I sat down in front of the clay, I just stared at the drawing.
I started for what felt like hours and hours, focusing on the details of Jimmy's face that I drew. Almost like a distraction from my work, and what I was meant to be doing. His face, and his build. The way he talked, the way he walked. Everything I thought about took me further into a fantasy. The only way I left the sweet fantasy was by feeling the clay sinking into my elbow. "Shit.." I muttered, getting up quickly and cleaning off the damp clay. Probably a sign I should have started the sculpture already.
Either way, I got started and got myself into my work faster than ever.
--
The box slightly clattered around the trunk as I drove. Every time I heard the noise, I cringed, hoping the bumpy road wouldn't break the sculpture. But since the road was getting more bumpy, and less careful, I knew I was close. The other reason I knew was because I saw the Seal Boy with Amazon Eve, taking down a poster. Confused, I stopped my car and walked up to the seal boy. "Um, hello. I was wondering why you were taking Ethel's poster down. Is she retiring?" I asked innocently. He just shook his head, almost seeming guilty.
"Ethel passed away recently. Elsa told us to take it down as soon as possible. And poor Jimmy's heartbroken..."
"Oh. Oh, that's dreadful. I was going up to the freakshow to give Jimmy something actually. Maybe it will help him?" I shrugged my shoulders as Eve came down from the footstool.
"What is it?" She asked, crossing her arms. As soon as she said that, I opened the car's trunk, and pulled the box out, opening it as I walked back towards them.
"It's him and Ma Petie. They were good inspiration, and, Jimmy is handsome."
Eve and Seal Boy looked at it endearingly. I put the box down and took out the sculpture. It was the size of both of my palms, so it fit perfectly. "I do hope he and Ma Petite like it. This is one of my bigger projects."
"It looks wonderful! Jimmy'll love it." Eve said. Happy with the response, I put it back in the box and in the trunk.
"Indeed. Will you guys be okay getting back or would you like me to ride you the rest of the way?" They looked at each other, before nodding. I led them to the car, and we all got in. Silence filled the car's journey, but soon enough we got to the back of the freakshow. "Where should I park?"
"Anywhere will be okay." Seal Boy smiled, so I parked by the Ferris wheel, and let the two of them get out. After that, I went to the trunk and took the box out. "Let's take you to Jimmy." He smiled, putting a hand on my shoulder. I nodded, and we walked to Jimmy's trailer. He was sat outside, staring at the ground.
"Jimmy. You have a guest." He said, before walking off. Jimmy looked up at me, and a smile enlightened his face.
"It's you."
"It's me, Jimmy! Also, Y/N. That's my name. I'm sorry I didn't throw it the other night. I was so caught up in my thoughts, and what I could do, I completely forgot."
"It's.. It's fine. I'm glad I get to see you again. Where did you meet Paul?"
I smiled at Jimmy, completely ignoring his question, and focusing on his eyes again. The images from the fantasy came back to me. But I internally shook them off and just placed the box in his lap. "I came across him and Eve while driving here. I decided to drive them back here. I'm sorry about Ethel."
"It's okay. What's in this box by the way?" Jimmy asked, staring at it in confusion.
"Open it and you will find out." I grinned, taking a chair and sitting beside him. He glanced at me before opening the box and taking out the figure. In shock, he dropped the box, thank god. But he kept a grip on the figure. The painted shadows, Ma Petite in her wonderful pink sari. Jimmy in his leather jacket, sitting by the wood stump. "I hope you like it, and that Ma Petite-" I got cut off as he hugged me closely. I quickly returned the hug, seeming that he liked it.
"It's wonderful Y/N. Thank you." He whispered, still not letting me go, but was happily accepted.
"I'm so glad you like it, Jimmy."
"I love it. I really do." He let the hug go and held onto my hands. "Let's show it to Ma Petite, and then maybe get some lunch? I'd like to return the favour." He winked again at me, and I felt like I was going to faint. But I nodded and squeezed his wrist.
"I'd love that Jimmy."

Sculptures of anything goes + La Notte parallels
I honestly think that we all moved too quickly away from Miles having a movie night watching fucking "La Notte" a couple of days before the premiere of the "Sculptures of anything goes" music video... Like, come on people! I don't know about you cinephiles, but I have never heard about that movie before. Watched it cause Miles shared it... and BAM! The video of "Sculptures..." comes out and you are like... hm... this looks SO FREAKING FAMILIAR!!! And then, the director's name is vaguely familiar... And oh... of course... It is the same guy you filmed "Blow-up"... Also the movie I never heard of before and watched cause Alex said in one of the interviews that that's where the inspiration for "Colorama" in Aviation is from... [Read more here] Anyway, back to the topic at hand... I feel like I live in a parallel reality where something so big happens and everyone just shrugs... or doesn't even see it... And I start second-guessing my sanity [totally deliberate SOS cover reference] So far this year Miles: - posted the video of that Used to be my girl solo - Wrestling video with TLSP reference - Tuesday... - Radio X tweet - Radio X strikes again (and it hurts) - Wirral Riddler while AM is in Japan ... [insert Big "hysterical scenes"... - pun totally intended ]
Tumblr media
interestingly enough none of them matter to me... they are too loud... The one that baffles me the most is the one that no one is talking about... Miles watching La Notte days before "Sculptures..." premier...
From mahaonthegram's IG [posted 7th Mar 2023] And based on Maha's post I should check... Wait for it "Citizen Kane"... I rest my case...
@elorianna @mileskanex @joshus-lobster @alexturne... thoughts?

A young dragon that voyages into lost and forbidden parts of the astral plane, or the space between stars, returns transformed into a horrifying star-famished beast. Leaning into cosmic horror, this dragon's theme is the unceasing hunger of a black hole, and the otherworldly awe of pulsing nebulae and dying stars. This is an aggressive beast that locks down its prey with gravitational power and light channeled from beings that live in pulsing, dying stars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sometimes, you just need to make a horrid beast. I know this is now incredibly late for Smaugust 2023, but when I saw a vacant-eyed, hollow dinosaur toy screaming at the sky I knew it was right for the prompt "Eldritch". But, I wanted to sidestep the expected 'tentacles like Cthulhu' approach, and so instead I used limbs from a toy lobster and other insects to give it some bony mandibles. The tongue was made by using a leftover tail from the dino that went into a previous build, with a UV resin coat, including a drip along a strand of transparent cotton to give it an icky strand of saliva.
The goal for this build was to gross myself out while making it, and to create a monster that implies something worse out there. And I admit that I love to hate looking at this one.
And with that, my Smaugust work is done for 2023. I'm planning on taking a short break from scratchbuilding to finish some sculptures and other WIPS.

@oknutzyweek2023 #o'knutzyweek 2023 day one!
a soft and silly little beach day ditty for the cubs
By mid-July, Finn’s shoulders were dense with caramel-colored freckles.
He was also pink. Very pink. “Aw, honey-” Leo was sympathetic but he couldn’t not laugh when Finn came in from the beach red as a lobster. His face seemed to have gotten the worst of it, lightly scorched across his cheeks and up to his eyebrows. “You fell asleep on the beach, didn’t you?”
“Don’t laugh at me” Finn protested, but he was cracking up too, sheepish as he ran his fingers across the red expanses of his cheeks.
They’d all been out at the O’Hara’s Hamptons place for a week, enjoying the sprawling house and private beach and crystalline pool all to themselves before Alex, Kasey and Natalie arrived with Ramsey and Haley for a week all together. There was certainly space for all of them-- The O’Haras had built a house to share with the people they loved, and they’d all always loved deep-- but there was something special about how it was just them.
Leo knew Logan and Finn had spent time there together in college, knew it was a place that brought them joy, and pain, to think about. It didn’t have any of that bittersweetness for him, though, it was just a sweet-ass house with his boyfriends.
“Aw, rouge...” Logan emerged from the kitchen, drink in hand. He was smiling too. “Rouge for real, huh?”
Finn came up close and flicked him before setting a kiss on the top of his head. “Not my fault I don’t end up like a glowing bronze sculpture like you.”
Leo had to agree that Logan looked great. The off-season suited him, the sun made him glow and his hair was longer than ever, made curlier too by the salt water and ocean air. He was a little softer around the middle, too, still as strong and solid as ever but with an added hint of a squish that Leo couldn’t get enough of. It made him think about life without hockey, about what it might be like getting older, changing together. Those weren’t thoughts that were important or urgent, but they were fun. Something to put on a shelf and take down another day.
“I’ll just put on more sunscreen tomorrow,” Finn was grousing, holding Leo’s mirrored sunglasses out in front of him and peering at his distorted reflection. “I know my mom has, like, a whole skincare horde somewhere in this house.”
“Yeah, and she’s looking amazing,” Leo added. Whatever Hayley O’Hara’s skincare routine was, it was working for her.
Finn just rolled his eyes, shaking his head as he wandered off in search of some aloe vera.
Logan and Leo managed to hold off on making too much fun of Finn’s sunburn for the rest of the night. Not that they didn’t make fun, but. Logan did tan an easy bronze and for all his light hair and blue eyes, years of running around in the hot NOLA had more than prepared Leo for the northeast. It wasn’t Finn’s fault he had the most sensitive skin in the universe, even if it was his fault for falling asleep in the afternoon sun.
It certainly wasn’t his fault that he had two boyfriends with zero chill between them.
The next day, as they settled down on the beach for another day of brilliant cerulean blue skies and the deep indigo of the Atlantic and the crisp pink of Finn’s shoulders, Leo made eye contact with Logan and pulled something from his tote bag. Nestled in with the two paperback books (What if him and Finn both finished what they were reading? What if, heaven forbid, Logan wanted to read?) was a balled up bit of garishly bright fabric.
Logan grabbed at it as soon as Leo had it out of the bag, shaking out the neon-pink-and-rainbow-stripped bucket hat and smushing it over Finn’s dark red hair.
“Hey,” Finn protested half heartedly, even as he adjusted the hat so it sat straight on his head, brim pulled out over his eyes. “This looks silly,” He pouted.
“Nope, this is adorable, you will be keeping that hat on,” Leo insisted, sitting back to admire Finn’s new accessory.
“Also, sun protection, mon rouge,” Logan added, reaching out to gently poke Finn’s (now covered in sunscreen) burnt cheek.
“I don’t know,” Finn said, “I don’t know where you two even found this hat, I feel like I would have noticed this somewhere.”
“No worries,” Logan responded, cracking up a little at the Americanism, at the same time as Leo said, “Don’t worry about it.”
Finn laughed hard at the way they spoke at the same time, so in synch and yet so much themselves. Leo snapped a picture, and then turned the camera to take a selfie of the three of them.
The camera reflected back the huge joy that Leo felt. The beach behind them, empty, just sand and sky and water and grasses swaying on the dunes that rose up toward the house. Their faces, pressed together, sun-kissed and freckled and relaxed. Faces soft in the sleepy way of the summer, bodies warmed by the sun.
And the hat, of course, charmingly tacky and undeniably bright, clashing awfully with Finn’s hair but somehow matching perfectly with his deliciously tiny bright blue swimsuit.
“Missing y’all” Leo typed into the team groupchat a few hours later, sending the selfie of the three of them to the group. “Hopefully Harzy doesn’t get too sunburnt now.”
+
A few hundred miles away, Kasey Winters screenshotted the picture and sent it to Alex.
From: Alex
To: Kase <3
Guess they found your hat after all ;)
