Lack of communication as a source of tension between two people who would readily accept an explanation and assume the best if given the chance: bad. boring. cheap.
Explicit communication provided, needs laid bare, vulnerability given freely but all insufficient to surmount the well-established personal fears and worldviews of a character primed by forces beyond anyone’s control to fall prey to that precise moment of weakness: beautiful. Absolutely delicious. Heartbreaking.

The RWRB movie, albeit different from the book, had re-awakened my feelings about those two disaster men. And everyone in that narrative universe tbh. These are some of the moments that scratch my brain real good, a mix of movie and book ones. And the women. June we miss you <3 :(

i'd love to hear more about it whenever you're not feeling sleepy anymore :3 (idec about spoilers anymore)
thank you for including the original post I'd already forgotten abt it lmfao BUT ok I'll try, long ass meta post under the cut.
I actually don't think Luffy's codependent exactly, I think he's very keen to inspire his friends and loved ones to see in themselves the potential he sees, and to help them on their own personal journeys, and he's as likely to step out of the way and let them do things on their own as to get involved.
BUT
The line in that post that I think really started the gears turning in my brain was "love as a cosmic disastrous redemptive force."
The two examples I'm gonna cite are platonic relationships. I wanna make it very clear, I don't think what he feels for Ace and Robin are in ANY WAY romantic or sexual. But think about the arcs that he goes through with both of them. The exact millisecond that Luffy became aware that what Ace and Robin were going through was a) not their personal choice and b) beyond their ability to control, he turns into a completely different dude. Not just a force of nature, but vicious, single-minded, driven beyond even the vaguest consideration of failure...out of pure, blinding, obliterating, selfless love for another.
In the case of Robin in Water 7, he is told repeatedly, sometimes BY Robin herself, that she is an irredeemable monster, a curse, an abomination whose very birth was a sin and a crime. He is told that someone like her could never form true bonds of trust and love, that he should not only let her go, but celebrate the loss of her because her death would improve his life.
Each and every time, without a second's hesitation, he tears right through that narrative, sometimes gently, sometimes desperately, almost always with his teeth, because he believes in Robin. Because in Luffy's eyes, people are their choices rather than their circumstances.
Luffy, and all the Straw Hats (even the wayward one), drive through an impenetrable hub of the World Government and go to war for her, literally, declare that if the whole world is Robin's enemy, then they will be the world's enemy in return. Most importantly--and I think most interestingly--he lets Robin scream at him. He lets her lash out, he lets her be vicious, he lets her be in pain...and still stands there with his arms out, eyes upturned, waiting for all of that to pass out of her so that she can access her own hope. It doesn't ever even occur to him that her desire to live has been crushed. (though god help my poor darling, I think that's bc he's lived through agony beyond imagining too, and fought through it the same way). His strength and trust in his friends carry him through, for certain, but it's love for his friends that pushes him to become what he does in that arc.
I'm not gonna go too much into Impel Down/Marineford for Ace because I'll cry lmfao, but it's safe to say that not one informed person on the planet thinks Luffy has a chance. They think--and directly tell him--that going after Ace in this circumstance is suicidal. But Luffy, who knows everything his brother has gone through, who loves him beyond comprehension and speech, goes anyway, goes through hell, sells off pieces of his life, keeps restarting his heart artificially, just so he can buy himself one more moment of being able to stand and fight for Ace. For Ace, who has for all his life, believed himself to be a mistake, who has been struggling to understand why it's okay that he exists at all, who generally shrugs off the love of others as a kindness, as pity, as a misunderstanding soon to be rectified.
Luffy, objectively, isn't on the same level as the Navy forces that gather to stop him, or the Warlords, or even Whitebeard and his New World fleet, but that doesn't even enter into his thoughts, because the alternative to doing absolutely everything he can to save his brother is unthinkable. Unacceptable. So he flings himself into hell and then into a war immediately after with such ferocity and such pure, unflinching love that it galvanizes not only Whitebeard's allies on the ground, but Whitebeard himself, and even figures like Mihawk, Sengoku, and his own grandfather. The focal point of the pirate world is on the plaza of Marineford that day, and it bends around Luffy and his love for his brother like he's a singularity, ultimately changing and shifting the fate of that whole world in the process.
In both cases, Luffy's love for the other person elevates him beyond his own stature--sometimes of only like two minutes beforehand--and in both cases, that love is for individuals who had been largely written off as bad blood, lost causes, monsters from a bygone era better killed and discarded.
So yeah. Luffy's love is a cosmic, disastrous, redemptive force, in that he becomes capable of great and terrible harm in defense of those he loves, and that the ferocity of his love nearly always burns away whatever was keeping the person from seeing themselves as worthy of that level of devotion in the first place.

Since Kisa and Niki were just shit parents what's the bet they never took Fushimi to the doctors to get his vaccinations. So one day in S4 he gets sick, seriously sick that he gets hospitalized and there are concerns he could ultimately die. (he doesn't but its touch and go for like a while) How would s4 handle the situation? would they take turns guarding/visiting his hospital room.
That’s actually a good point, like did Niki and Kisa even bother to do the bare minimum to take care of their kid (also imagine him getting sick in middle school with stuff like chicken pox that kids normally get vaccinated for and Yata taking care of him while being like you’re the only guy I know who actually catches these diseases geez, not realizing that there’s a reason for that beyond Fushimi just being an unhealthy little shit in general). Munakata I think would probably try to get Fushimi caught up on his vaccinations, presumably being in possession of those records when Fushimi joins S4,  but Fushimi thinks it’s a pain and keeps putting it off because he doesn’t want to be bothered and it’s not like those diseases are common anyway.
Of course this catches up with him eventually and he ends up getting super sick. It probably doesn’t help matters that he doesn’t want to go to the infirmary or anything when he starts having symptoms, he works until Awashima sends him back to his room to rest and then he just lies around in bed feeling like shit but refusing to go see a doctor. Munakata has the squad keeping an eye on him and is probably watching his temperature once it becomes clear that Fushimi isn’t getting any better, and he’s the one who ultimately has Fushimi sent to the hospital once it’s clear that this is serious. Even then the doctors are concerned because it took so long to admit him, like if Fushimi had gone to the doctor days ago this could have been averted but now he’s really sick and they’re just trying to mitigate any damage that might have already been done.
I think the squad would definitely take turns guarding his hospital room, Munakata would like to do it himself but he has work to do as well. All of the squad are worried and want to check on Fushimi as well so Munakata and Awashima add this into the rotation, maybe there have actually been a lot of Strain issues lately and S4 is pretty busy (especially with Fushimi not being there too, considering how much work he does) but even so Munakata makes certain that there is always someone by Fushimi’s room at all times in case he should take a turn for the worse. For the most part Fushimi is like sedated and heavily medicated so he doesn’t even realize that the squad are there but even so everyone does their job properly.
They’re supposed to just stand outside the door but that doesn’t last long, like there’s no way Hidaka could just stand outside and he ends up sitting by Fushimi’s bed and telling him what happened all day. When Awashima comes to relieve him she finds him still talking to Fushimi and Hidaka’s all sheepish at getting caught, apologizing for not watching the door. Awashima however smiles at him and tells him that’s fine, as she takes over his chair and starts to tell Fushimi how the last mission went. Soon every member is doing it, even Fuse gives his reports to the sleeping Fushimi the same way he would if they were at work. When Fushimi’s finally conscious enough to know what’s going on he feels like maybe people have been talking to him all this time and he’s shocked to find the squad still diligently taking turns visiting him, no one allowing him to be alone for even a minute and refusing to leave when he complains, because they were all worried about him after all.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) “why didn't he use 🫵🏼?” didn't exist yet. “why didn't he use 🆗?” dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. 👌🏼 is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent 👉🏼👌🏼 as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

Rowling isn't denying holocaust. She just pointed out that burning of transgender health books is a lie as that form of cosmetic surgery didn't exist. But of course you knew that already, didn't you?
I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?
In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".
Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.
This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.
Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.
The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

[Image ID: A black and white photo of a group of people. Some are smiling at the camera, others have serious expressions. Either way, they all seem to be happy. On the right side, an older gentleman in glasses- Magnus Hirschfeld- is sitting. He has short hair and a bushy mustache. He is resting one hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him. His other hand is being held by a person to his left. Another person to his right is holding his shoulder.]
There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.
This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A black and white photo of the May Nazi book burning of the Institute of Sexology's library. A soldier, back facing the camera, is throwing a stack of books into the fire. In the background of the right side, a crowd is watching.]
As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.
But of course, you knew that already, didn't you?
Edit: Added image IDs. I apologize to those using screen readers for forgetting them. Please reblog this version instead.

Don’t mind the background noise, I was walking around akdmfjfjsbsgsg
[Transcript: several lines from different David Firth videos. All the lines are spoken in an English accent, with various voices. The lines are as follows:
(In a monotone voice) “You’re not in any pain. You just think you are.”
“It’s all in your mind! Try meditating and eating more hazelnuts.”
“Lies help cleanse dead thoughts, and the memories of people we no longer care about.”
(In a deep, loopy voice) “Ah, well, like you said… it-it’s just a placebo, innit, so… *loud exhale through nose* naturally… I don’t feel any different…”
(In a high-pitched, hushed, raspy voice) “Hubert Cumberdale! Fancy seeing you here…”
“I don’t think you ought to have stolen my little flesh boy.”
(deep, hushed voice) “Little Billy tells me that you were pleasuring yourself… with Plastic Hand.”
(sharp, nasally voice) “That isn’t going to work, Stewart; you’re not worthy.”

I love how Percy is genuinely like wtf when Luke says Annabeth - who’s twelve - is head counsellor so he’s under the impression that annabeth is ridiculously powerful when in reality her older cabin mates just wanted to spend their time coming up with ways to hack the government instead of assigning cabin chores

just saw a clip where f1nn5ter was saying how at this point, he can’t be cis, but at the same time, he doesn’t feel like he’s trans—he’s just neither. and someone in chat was like “you can’t be neither cis nor trans that’s not how it works” i love finn but why is his chat so fucking bad 😭 stop recreating binaries for the love of god, identity does not have to fall into these neat little boxes for you to police
