Leviathan Birthday Collaboration 2023: A-7 Wedding
Genre: fluff, hurt/comfort
Pairing: Leviathan & GN MC
Warnings: mentions of anxiety and self-deprecation
This is my piece for Leviathan's birthday collaboration this year; I chose the prompt wedding. I feel this isn't my best work, but there was a lot going on. I'm really glad I could meet the deadline and take part in this project! I had a great time and am honored to work alongside such talented people.
Happy birthday, Leviachan 🥳✨
As always, I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors that may have gone unnoticed. Thank you to those who take the time to read and comment on my work; it’s greatly appreciated ♥

The silence is suffocating, allowing Leviathan’s thoughts to wander and find their voice. Normally, he sought it out, relishing the peace of mind the quiet brought him, the Avatar of Envy content to confine himself to his room and keep to the shadows. Here he feels alone and exposed, his soul laid bare before him in the vanity mirror. His reflection peers nervously back at him, wide-eyed and pale, as uncertainty takes hold and ties itself into knots in the pit of his stomach. He sighs, dropping his gaze to his hands, which tremble in his lap. You love him, and he loves you—this he knows—though doubt sows itself into his heart. What if this is a mistake—if you’ve yet to realize you deserve better? He can’t bear to see you unhappy.
“Yo, Levi!” The door swings open, and Leviathan jumps, yelping in surprise. “The Great Mammon is here to support his lil bro on his big day!” Mammon grins, while an unamused Lucifer trails behind him, scowling.
Leviathan glowers at the Avatar of Greed, feigning annoyance, but he can’t deny he’s relieved, their presence familiar and comforting, soothing his frayed nerves—it’s embarrassing. Mammon’s voice alone is loud enough to drown out his thoughts, and he gives Leviathan little time to think when he wraps an arm around the third born’s shoulders and playfully ruffles his hair.
“Don’t say I never did anythin for ya!” he crows.
“H-hey!” Leviathan growls, face flushing a deep shade of red.
“Mammon,” Lucifer warns, smoothing Leviathan’s hair as Mammon shrinks under his disapproving gaze. Though Lucifer’s expression softens, the eldest regarding Leviathan with a smile—genuine, sweet—bringing back faraway memories. A brother’s love, strong and true, and the unmistakable twinkle of pride unbidden in those eyes, the same eyes that watched over him in the Celestial realm and never stopped here in the Devildom. His heart swells with emotion, overwhelming but not unwelcome, the Avatar of Pride chuckling as arms wrap firmly around his waist, and Leviathan cries into his embrace.
In this moment, he’s a fledgling again, Lucifer’s arms and wings encircling and protecting him from the world. He’s loved, safe, all his worries melting away.
Until embarrassment gets the best of him, and Leviathan is very aware of himself and how his skin burns, quickly pulling back and averting his tearful gaze. Thankfully, his brothers allow him this, an unspoken understanding passing between them that lessens the tension, and he’s beyond grateful when Lucifer takes it upon himself to straighten his tie, voice filling the silence, “This is meant to be one of the happiest days of your life, is it not?”
“Y-yes!” Leviathan says without hesitance, still in awe you accepted his proposal. He recalls that night with utmost clarity, certain you’re standing in front of him now, eyes glistening with tears, and your smile so bright and beautiful he believes he’s ascended to the Celestial realm. Once he thought marriage a fantasy, uninteresting and unbecoming of an otaku such as himself, but you changed his mind—you changed his life. “But . . .”
“Stop right there! I know what’s goin through that head of yours, and it’s not true.” Mammon pinches Leviathan’s cheek, laughing heartily despite his brother’s murderous glare. “Who can resist my adorable lil brother, eh?”
“Mammon is correct.” Lucifer agrees. “What is it you say . . . believe in me who believes in you, yes?”
Leviathan’s mouth opens, but no words come out, caught in his throat. Instead, he sniffles, grateful tears rolling down his cheeks and snot streaming from his nose.
“Gross,” Mammon mutters. “I mean . . .” he improvises after Lucifer fixes him with an angry stare, clapping Leviathan on the back. “Ya look like a million Grimm!”
“Honestly . . .” Lucifer sighs. “Come now, Mammon.”
A wave of anxiety crashes over Leviathan. “H-hey! Wait . . .”
“We’ll see you soon, Leviathan.” Lucifer gives his shoulder a reassuring squeeze, and Leviathan nods, watching his brothers leave, their words of encouragement still ringing in his ears and strengthening his resolve. The only one who doubts him is himself, envy warping the world around him to fit its narrative—dark, lonely, and bleak. Though you love everything about him he finds disgusting, supporting him and inspiring him to become the demon he is today, and the demon he hopes to be in the future; a future he envisions with you by his side.
“Levi,” he imagines you say, the sweetness of your voice causing his heart to flutter and heat to creep down his neck to pool in his chest. “Can I come in?”
“You!” he squawks, catching your gaze in the mirror as you peek your head into the room. “I-it’s r-r-really you!” Quickly, he covers his eyes. “I’m not supposed to see you before the wedding! I-I heard it’s bad luck.”
“That’s an old human superstition,” you reassure him. “I wanted to see you . . . but I can leave if you’re uncomfortable.”
“N-no, stay!” he shouts, and then softly, “Please.” You want to see him. Years passed since you first arrived in the Devildom, countless days spent together, ending with you in his tub, your bodies and souls entwined, hearts beating as one, yet he still can’t believe you want to see him—that you want to marry him—that you want him. Every morning he wakes he falls in love with you again and again and again and again, and now he feels not a spark but a flame, burning with such intensity he aches in longing.
Your eyes meet in the mirror, and Leviathan gasps, mesmerized by your reflection and how it glimmers in the moonlight spilling through the window. Slowly, he faces you, his heart skipping a beat as he basks in your glory, shameless in his staring. Your smile is angelic, expression shy but full of affection, glistening with unshed tears as you look upon him, admiring him in return. The moment is etched into his memory, carefully filed away for safekeeping, saved not once but twice—a third time for good measure. He’ll never forget this, how you shine brighter than any star in the sky, radiating warmth and love, ridding him of doubt and instilling him with confidence; his love for you far too great to ignore.
“You look amazing,” you whisper.
“You do too . . .” He swallows. “You’re beyond amazing! You’re heavenly. My heart may give out before I make it to the altar.” Your laugh is music to his ears, leaving him weak in the knees. “You used charm and it’s super effective!”
“Don’t worry, I’ve come prepared,” you say, kneeling before him and presenting a gift box elegantly wrapped in orange ribbon. “A gift for my dearest Lord of Shadow.”
“Y-you shouldn’t have,” he stammers, touch gentle as he takes the box in his hands, untying the ribbon with unsteady fingers. Placing the top on the vanity, he grins, wide and toothy, admiring the two custom gaming controllers inside. “These are . . .” There are no words to describe the emotions flowing through and sweeping over him, surging forward in sharp stuttering sobs. Player 1 is inscribed on one and Player 2 on the other, the date on both in a heartfelt reminder of what the day is to bring and will mean after all is said and done, your bond continuing to grow and flourish.
You wipe the tears from his eyes, cradling his face in your hands. “I thought we could put them to good use later.”
Setting the box aside, he gathers you in his arms, pulling you onto his lap to kiss you, tender but fervent, the bitterness of his tears overpowered by the sweetness of your lips. “Love you I do, marry you I will,” he murmurs, resting his forehead against your own and savoring the feel of your fingers in his hair and as they run over the base of the horns now crowning his head.
“I love you too,” you laugh, your breath hot on his skin, sending a delightful shiver down his spine that causes his tail to curl. And he knows, as you lean in to kiss him, he loves you, and you love him, and there’s nowhere else he wants to be, happy and at peace in your arms.

Levi didn't know that happiness like that existed, that he could feel so comfortable in another’s presence, that he could gather the courage to hold their hand gently and tell them about his life willingly. Levi found it all, and he was grateful that he found peace in one person.
However, peace was a fragile state and it didn't last long. His euphoria shattered soon. Your time was up before he could ask you to spend the rest of your life with him. He didn't know what he regretted more — the fights that had shaken both your worlds, or the times he thought he hadn’t been there for you, or the sinking feeling that he couldn’t give you all the happy memories he had planned to.
He knew about your mortality but his fear had paralysed his mind into denial. You were gone before he could accept that he would be alone once again.
Still, he kept his gloomy feelings in check. What was the point? He knew this would happen. He knew, he knew! Who should he curse? What should he place the blame on if not his own naivete?
With a face as stern as the oceans that he ruled, he entered your room but his eyes were dry as a desert. He finally broke down in tears at the sight of your dead fish. How cruel of you to not leave behind the one friend you shared in common!
༺☆༻
"You know he swims with more vigour when you come to visit me," he could hear your voice in his mind as he pictured you glancing at your energetic pet. "I think he likes you!"
"Eh? Eh?! So-Someone li-li-likes me?!" he used to blush with joy.
"Yes, Levi," you would smile sweetly, "I think he approves of our love."
༺☆༻
The love still tugged at his heart like a wounded bird wanting to stay still. That was what made it so difficult. Even when the person left, the memories stayed, and he didn't know if those were meant to please him or torment him for the remainder of his days.
He shut himself in his room and refused to talk to anyone, only fulfilling his responsibilities for which he believed he was 'created'. Was there any other point of life if not to satisfy the authorities?
How he destroyed his mind in his own time was a matter for him alone.
༺☆༻
It was on one such mission assigned to him that he came across a human who resembled you. They were the splitting image of how he remembered you as.
No words of encouragement could urge him to approach them. Was he not betraying your memory by talking to this new person? Could it not be a twisted trap? In all honesty, he was scared; scared that grief was making him hallucinate and the moment he tried to approach them, they would vanish. Wasn’t it better for them to exist and live than be tarnished by his company?
Despite the noble thoughts that plagued his mind, they always had his presence around. He stalked their every move during his free time. He could not let them come to harm, not on his watch.
His face softened when he saw them buy a pet snake. Maybe he could have one too. That was how he met his beloved Henry, the first one of his pets, the one who he would eventually lose. His new pet snake was a constant source of comfort for him, just as tracking their every move was.
Days were passing pleasantly. One could say too pleasantly.
He had made himself believe that someday soon he would muster the courage to go talk to them. If everything worked out well, they might become friends. Henry would get a snake bestie too!
Alas! That life was too good to last!
He noticed their snake looking sick before them. He felt a sense of foreboding. It was deja vu.
No, no, no, no, no! He had to make sure that it was fine. When he tried approaching the snake, it hissed and slithered away in the sand, away from his reach, as if moving in rhythm with death. Some place nearby, they didn’t see how a reaper pulled them close in a cold embrace.
This time, Levi didn’t restrain himself, howling and shaking with sorrow as he held their lifeless body in his arms. It wasn’t even you, so why did he feel so broken?
He didn’t even know them! Not really.
But he knew the moment he finally touched them. He could feel the warmth of your soul slowly disappearing from the person he held in his arms.
༺☆༻
The next time Levi found you — or as he now realised, your reincarnate — he tried to keep his distance… and failed. His failure cost him another heartache as he saw you dead, the corpse of your pet lying nearby.
It happened so many times — the pattern following, a dead pet at your heels — that he feared stepping outside his room. If he held your dead body one more time in his arms, he felt sure that he would go mad. He dreaded that face that had once made his heart feel like liquid. So, without any explanation to any of his brothers, he locked himself up in his room with his games, anime, manga and whatever could distract him from the pain he had brought upon himself.
At least Ruri-chan and Azuki-tan weren’t as cruel as you! They wouldn’t leave him alone.
༺☆༻
A long time had passed before he faced a new change in his life. He had grown so accustomed to his hermit existence that it annoyed him, but Lord Diavolo’s orders needed to be followed. His duty was important, since it kept him out of trouble with Lucifer and paid for his moe moe kyun adorable figurines of his waifus and husbandos!
Other than that, the exchange programme didn’t concern him. Human beings didn’t concern him anymore. He wanted to stay in his room, burdened with shame and helplessness, doing his best to forget and forgive a fact that was beyond his control anyway.
༺☆༻
He was obliged to have dinner with his family that night. Apparently Lucifer wanted all of his brothers to meet the exchange student. Levi grunted but paused his game and made his way to the dining room, slouched and grumpy.
“Why does Lucifer have to do this? Does he even know how difficult it is to get to the last level?! OFC he doesn’t LOLOLOL that normie could never-! No wonder he called me. How is a mere normie to understand the importance of my mission?! Ahhhhh my unused joints are crying out in agony. Uwwaaaaaaah end my misery, let this gross otaku go back to his room!!”
Ahead of him, he could hear chatter and he felt sick to the pit of his stomach. He was not ready for this level of social gathering, with some extroverts no less! Not to mention that there would be a new face in the midst!
You were guarded from view when he entered the dining room looking ready to pass out. It was the voice that gave you away. All his anxiety and discomfort was forgotten. He was fixed to the spot.
Without another glance, he left, rushing for his room.
“Levi? Levi?! Where are ya goin’?” Mammon called after him.
“Leviathan! Come back this instant,” Lucifer looked displeased.
“Did I do something wrong?” you asked timidly.
“Ohhh hunny don’t worry about him. He probably has some anime to watch,” Asmo spoke soothingly.
After shutting his door after him, he collapsed into a heap on his floor.
Those eyes… How long had it been since he actually looked into your eyes?
And he knew that he wouldn’t sleep peacefully that night.
༺☆༻
He tried his best to not cross your path. It shouldn’t have been THAT difficult. He had managed to do it several times during the last centuries. The only difference was that now you wanted to know him, to be his friend and in front of that persistence, he felt weak.
“Leviathan? Are you inside? I bought a new game but I can’t understand the mechanics. Can you show me, please?”
“Leviathan, I got some snacks. Would you like to share?”
“Leviathan, what are you up to? I think we should get acquainted, you know?”
When he finally responded, you seemed to grow bolder.
“Levi! Asmo said I could call you that. I hope you don’t mind. It would be nice if we could talk…”
The sadness in your voice broke his heart so he yielded. On witnessing the efforts that you were putting to form a bond with him, he opened the doors to his room and his heart for you. After weeks of gaming together and getting to know you — this you that lived independent of the love he felt ages ago — he couldn’t help wanting to be with you as more than friends.
You were radiant in his eyes and he felt comfortable around you. How long had it been since he actually enjoyed company?
However, there was no denying the sad truth that with something precious came the fear of losing it. It was a double edged sword and Levi could clearly see himself getting impaled at the sharp end of his feelings. Yet it would be a choice he made himself and he could no longer deny himself that.
༺☆༻
“Levi,” your voice floated from the other side of the door.
The controller slipped from his fingers. Bewilderment was quickly replaced by surprise and rage, followed closely by relief. So you hadn’t forgotten him.
The last few weeks had been dreadful. When you started spending time, holed up with Solomon in his study, Levi felt that he had lost you. What did you two talk about in solitude? He kept wondering with envy.
“Levi, are you there? I have something to show you!”
That broke his reverie. He got up and opened the door for you.
“Hi!” you said with a smile. “Wow Levi it’s been a while since I saw you, huh?”
He fidgeted nervously and nodded, neither looking at you nor speaking. There was silence for a few moments before you spoke awkwardly.
“Are you angry with me?”
“N-No,” he managed, his face flushing pink. He understood your decision, truly he did. “Everyone will p-p-prefer Solomon to a yucky otaku like m-m-me.”
When he saw you move closer from the corner of his eyes, he turned towards you in shock. The expression on your face just confused him more.
He wasn’t expecting you to look… disappointed.
“Levi, why would you say that? That’s not true… You must know that. In fact, I have something to show that I appreciate you.”
He followed your gaze and blinked. Perched on your arm was a phoenix. He felt a little stupid for not noticing it before. The bird fixed a curious gaze on Levi and spread its wings, showcasing its splendid plumage of every colour imaginable.
“Pet it. Go on.”
When he hesitantly moved his hand forward, the bird leaned in, almost wanting to be caressed.
You smiled when he was mesmerised by the soft feathers. “I am so glad it likes you!”
“Yeah,” he murmured, awestruck that a mythical bird would actually welcome his affection. That’s when he remembered something.
“Wait, but what is the surprise?”
“Only that I want you to look after the little guy with me. This phoenix will be under OUR care from now on!”
His hand fell to his side stiffly. “Whaaaa- Buuuu- Wouldn’t Satan be a better choice for this kind of thing??”
“Well yeah,” you hesitated. “But I want it to be you, Levi.”
His throat felt parched and he was at a loss of words. He looked at the phoenix and then at your uneasy face. Knowing exactly what he wanted, he allowed him this excess.
“O-Okay, sure, [Name]. I d-don’t mind if you are fine with a gross, yucky otaku like me.”
He lost the function of his brain when your face brightened up and you grabbed his hand with a joyous cheer. “Yayy. You will? That makes me so happy!”
When you were leaving, he felt part nervous, part ecstatic.
A fact gnawed at his mind, but was not unwelcome.
A phoenix is supposed to be immortal.

Levi’s Birthday Collab 2023
It was my honor to work with Kael for this collab event! Check out their Twitter page here and their Tumblr page here. If you love Levi, I promise you won’t be disappointed 🥰 They created a partnering piece of art for this fic!
I’m so excited to finally share this Spies AU Fic to honor the birthday boy Leviathan~
"Mammon, take the next left."
"Yeah yeah, I know."
"Jump over the infrared sensor in the next hallway."
The white-haired agent effortlessly lept over the invisible trip line, "I told ya, I know!"
"Watch out for the center display case."
Mammon swiveled around the case with ease. "Dammit Levi, I know! We went over the blueprint again and again, I know this place like the back of my hand. So quit it!"
"Is that so?" Levi spun in his computer chair, "Because last time you said that, Lucifer had to come bail you out."
"Tch, that rich guy had too many gadgets," Mammon lowered his voice and came to a pause at the intersection of halls. He peeked around the corner to watch the pair of guards turn down another corridor.
"And you've got a habit of getting distracted. Anyways, this museum is nothing to scoff at, it's got plenty of security. It's only been easy for you so far because you've got me, the genius hacker, working on it."
As Mammon ran ahead, he smiled. He would never admit it aloud but Levi was good. It's been a breeze so far, at this rate they'd grab the painting and be home before sun up.
The painting in question was done by the mysterious artist M.C. Everyone wanted to get their hands on this work in particular as it was described to depict the human condition. Investors would pay a pretty penny to be the owner and the money was already burning a hole in Mammon's pocket. If they were going to finish the job early anyway, Mammon wondered if he could make away with a second prize. There was another work close by their goal that had piqued his interest when reviewing the building plans. The painting was owned by the old King Solomon. People debate whether he was strictly the owner or if he was possibly the painter. The painting would pair well with the work by M.C. and could potentially score the syndicate a huge bonus. The commissions the two of them could earn was making Mammon drool. He turned right for the section that held Solomon's painting.
"Mammon, what are you doing?!" Levi shouted into their comm system.
"You'll thank me for this," Mammon smirked.
"No no no no, you idiot, don't!" Levi typed furiously to try to disable the security devices in front of Mammon as he ran. He was barely keeping up but so far he'd turned off the sensors, exchanged the camera feeds to run on a loop, and diverted guards' attention by signaling a trip of the alarms in a far part of the museum. That was as far as luck took them though.
When Mammon entered the room for the ancient mural, the roll-down security gate came crashing down. "Levi, what the hell's going on?" There was only static on the line in response.
Levi could hear Mammon through the camera feed in the room but the room seemed to be a dead spot for their comms. "That moron," Levi growled his frustration as he scanned the cameras throughout the facility. Someone must have brought those gates down. Then he saw him, it was tough to miss the bulky mass running through the halls, "Diavolo... which means," his thought was cut off.
"That's right, Leviathan," a new voice entered his ear.
"Barbatos..." Levi sighed. Another genius hacker enters the chat, Levi thought as he tried to free Mammon. Nothing that he attempted would get the gate up or restore the connection with his partner. Levi frustratedly ripped off his headset, grabbed a tablet from its dock, the extra painting canister, and rushed to the nearest entrance. He'd have to make the grab himself. "Damn you Mammon, you couldn't stick to the mission this one time." Levi tapped on his tablet as he ran, "You just had to be greedy and push for something more than we came for." In the distance a gate crashed shut, Levi smiled having used their tactics against them.
Levi could hear the door rattle as Diavolo banged on it. It wouldn't completely stop him, just diverted him to a longer route. Diavolo was a professional that didn't wander into dead ends like the deadweight Levi was working with. Levi took a moment to crouch down near a safe wing. He scanned through the security cameras on his tablet. They were still on loop and the guards were addressing his false alarm. The main problem was Diavolo and Barbatos from Devil's Associates. "Why'd they have to be here tonight?" Levi grumbled and got back up to run toward the painting. It is a straight shot but once there, the room that stored the treasured piece would take time to navigate. At night there is a fingerprint scanner to open the room, of course, sensors at all different angles, and a wall trip that would alarm if the painting was removed.
First up, is the fingerprint scanner. Levi held up the tablet to project the saved fingerprint that he and Mammon had gathered during their recon. The panel beeped and the gate lifted offering entry to the room. Next, Levi had to avoid the sensors. Unfortunately, there was no way to disable these infrared sensors. If he had turned them off, the night guards would get an alert. Levi pulled a pair of goggles out of his pocket that would allow him to see the infrared with ease. He shimmied and contorted to make his way around the beams and towards the painting. Levi was the most unfamiliar with the last security measure. To figure out what kind of mechanism hid behind the way, Levi pulled out his tablet and took a few x-ray images. The purple-haired agent frowned as he assessed the pulleys and possible ways to bypass the whole thing entirely. The only idea that came to him was what he went with. There was no sense in wasting time when the mission was already compromised. He might as well try to get out of the museum as soon as possible. While Levi pulled the framed photo from the wall, he kept his finger on the hanging nail to simulate the pressure of the painting. Once he placed the frame on the ground, Levi grabbed his tablet and chose to overload the mechanism's battery. If it fried itself while the pressure was adequate, he hoped that at the very least they would note to replace the battery without having the alarms activate. It seemed to do the trick! There weren't any guards rushing him or blaring noises so that had to be a good sign, right? Levi snapped the corners of the frame and freed the painting. Delicately, he rolled the paper and put it into the canister.
"Levi," Diavolo entered the room but stayed by the entrance cutting off Levi's exit.
He looked around the room, trying to figure out anything he could do but he was stuck. The infrared beams were the only things between them. Maybe Diavolo thought Levi had disabled them? "Diavolo, you're too late, I've already got the painting."
"Hm," Diavolo scratched his chin and smiled, "That may be so but you're going to have to get past me if you want to leave with the painting."
If it came down to a fight, there's no way Levi would come out the victor. Diavolo had muscles on muscles, Levi wouldn't stand a chance.
By some miracle, the ventilation grate at the top corner of the room busted open. "Thought you were going to leave me behind?" Mammon smirked, propping himself up on the wall and hanging out of the vent.
"Mammon!" Levi wouldn't admit it but he was thankful to have such a tenacious partner. "Take the painting!" He chucked the container up to the man in the corner.
"Whoa!" Mammon caught the canister and saluted to the men standing in the room, "See you on the outside!"
"Wait, you're not going to help me??" Levi whined as he watched white hair disappear back into the vents.
"A shame," Diavolo shook his head. "Barbatos will probably trap him in the vents or intercept him outside. What are we going to do?"
They were locked in a stalemate. Well, nothing to lose, Levi thought. "This," he shoved his hand out in front of him, triggering the infrared sensor.
Diavolo and Levi covered their ears as the loud alarm bells rang throughout the museum.
"Are you going to stay and get caught with me?" Levi provokes.
Diavolo frowns but makes a quick exit.
Levi leaves next. He pulls out his tablet to find where the guards are coming from. Since they were previously on the other side of the building, the majority are running together in a large group. Levi pulled up the blueprint to find the closest exit, "Mammon you better make it out," he huffed and packed in his tablet. There was only one exit at the rear of the museum that didn't have a guard posted. Levi already unlocked it and it would get him close to their rendezvous spot. Just as he began running toward freedom, Levi could hear the sounds of the guards shouting. "Mammon, you better make it out so I can kill you myself." He barely made it through the doors and into the cover of night but he made it nonetheless.

A/N: This is my part for Levi's birthday collaboration! I paired with a wonderful artist (Twitter) who did such a cute piece (tumblr). Their piece is under the cut at the end of the story.
“What’re ya doin’ lettin’ him slip by you like that?”
“Don’t you dare blame me! I told you to go around the other way!”
“Hey, Satan! Quit tryin’ to run away, and get over here!”
“Not another step, Asmo. Stay away from me, Mammon! Get off, you idiot!”
You winced as you heard the loud ruckus in the kitchen from the dining room. The birthday party for Levi had dissolved into a mess of an afterparty. Beel was distracted finishing off all the leftovers, and Belphie had disappeared to take a nap. Mammon and Asmo had had their fill of too much Demonus. At some point during cleanup they caught Satan in the kitchen and had started harassing him.
“Hey, MC, do you want to go hang out in my room?”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah. I mean, the party is pretty much over at this point, right?”
An abrupt shriek from Asmo cut you off before you could reply, causing you and Levi to snap your heads in the direction of the kitchen. Almost instinctively, you went to sort out the trouble before the situation got worse, but Levi stopped you, shaking his head as you turned your attention back to him.
“It’ll be instant game over for you if you go in there at this point,” he warned with an incredulous look, like he couldn’t believe you would be willing to walk into a scenario where Satan could be armed with kitchen knives that he would gladly be using as makeshift darts.
“S-Satan, just calm down for a minute, would ya?!”
“I told you to leave me alone.” An explosion of what sounded like cast iron and metal clanging onto the floor heavily startled you. Levi gave a grimacing look over your shoulder as shattering crashes followed shortly afterwards. “I’M GONNA KILL YOU BOTH!”
“Ahh! Mammon, this is all your fault!”
“Wha--! You were in on this just as much as I was, ya bastard!”
The only thing louder than the destruction was the twin screams of panic and terror as Satan wreaked havoc just a room away. A thought that popped into your head was that hopefully he would be mindful of your bedroom in his blind rage. A second thought was that you hoped he would avoid destroying the skillet you liked to use when you were on cooking duty.
“MC, listen. An impending doom is coming. I can feel it in my bones. So, before it happens, I think we should make our escape before Lucifer comes back.”
Lucifer had left the house unsupervised to see Diavolo and Barbatos off, but he would be returning soon. You knew it would be a bad idea to be in the vicinity when he discovered the state of the kitchen, in utter ruins in the short frame of time he was gone. While you did feel bad for Mammon and Asmo at the moment, you knew whatever punishment that Lucifer would pass judgment on to them would be far worse than what Satan was currently doing. In hindsight of similar events, you knew this was unavoidable and decided to wash your hands of the problem before you got dragged into it.
“We should probably skedaddle before we get caught in any crossfires.”
“Yeah, agreed. Let’s go!”
Leaving the cacophonous commotion downstairs, the retreat to his room was a smooth success. When you passed the door frame, Levi shut the door and locked it. A preventive measure to keep two certain idiots that would probably try to flee to wherever you would be to lessen the severity of Lucifer’s anger.
“Ahhh, I can already feel myself recharging! Birthday or not, a party is a party, and I’m not cut out for all those high levels of energy. I feel totally drained.”
“So, what did you want to do?”
Despite his complaint of fatigue, his tired demeanor immediately lit up with energy. It was something you noticed before, but his recovery time after entering his bedroom was astoundingly similar to how your phone charged from a low battery to an impressive mid-range percentage in several minutes with the DevilishlyTurbo charger you recently bought. The comparison tickled you enough to make you giggle under your breath.
“Now that you’re here, we can play Devil Kart 8 Deluxe! This is an enhanced version that has a ton of new tracks and overhauled mechanics and new content that will be released in waves. A few waves have already been released, and I played a bit of it myself and put a ton of hours into winning the tournaments to unlock tracks and characters for, uh… for us to use. I wanted to play with you after the party, so I put my all into making sure I got all the content that’s currently available. I think there are some stages and vehicles you would like.”
Levi plopped himself on the rug in front of his television. He gestured to the open space next to him, and you sat beside him. Sitting so close to him, listening to him explain the game and all the stuff he unlocked for you both to be able to enjoy, you noticed a difference in his excitement from during the party. It might have been a subtle thing or maybe not, but the way his eyes flashed and the broad smile he had while explaining in his long-winded fashion all the new things the game included or brought back and would get eventually and the animated, wild gestures he made that almost bumped into you a couple times, it all seemed less reserved and more natural. It made you positively giddy watching him be himself.
“Anyway, I already have it all hooked up to the T.V., so we can race together with these instead of the gamepads. I bought them specifically to match the racing element of the game!” Levi indicated to two steering wheel controllers. A tinge of a blush reddened his cheeks as he glanced from the gaming setup to you. “S-So… do you wanna play together until my birthday is over?”
“Uh, yeah, definitely!” You grabbed the controller closest to you and gave Levi a cocky look. “I’ve been practicing a lot since you practically demolished me last time we played a racing game, but this time you’re going to get your butt kicked!”
He looked stunned by your laydown of a challenge, but you could see his competitive spirit coming out in the smugness of his attitude as he picked up the other controller. “You say that practically every time we play a versus game. If you want a chance to beat someone, you should go challenge Belphie or Asmo. No one has a chance of surpassing me at video games!”
“Yeah, okay. No being a sore loser over it when I beat you, then. I know how you can get super salty when you get bested, especially after letting yourself get too overconfident.”
“Shut up lol! I don’t know what you’re even talking about!” Levi had a pinched line that kind of resembled the condescending smirk when he had mouthed off, but you could tell his few losses were a bit more than skin level insults to him. “If you think I’m going to pull any punches now, then---”
“When have you ever pulled punches during a game?! You always play to win no matter what!”
“OMG, hurry up and choose a character already!”
You had a few good moments during a couple races, like how you stole his first-place position by using the most agonizing offensive item the game had, the bat banana peel, at the last possible moment or how you would knock Levi off roads to drop his placement and slow him down. Some of his rages were so legitimate you could only stare wide-eyed with a stiff smirk that was pinned in place by genuine nervousness. After a triple dozen races, the majority mostly won by Levi, the fiery retorts, heat-of-the-moment insults, and mocking jeers settled into more friendly comments about the game itself and the updated graphics and the characters that were being brought over from other games under Funtendo’s licensing.
Hours slipped by, and you could feel your eyes getting heavier as you tried your best to fight against your tiredness. You wanted to stay up as long as you could with Levi. Yeah, it was definitely past midnight now, but you were having a lot of fun. Stopping now felt like prematurely ending the moment, but exhaustion was waiting for you each time you blinked, lingering in that split second of darkness to persuade you to keep your eyes closed and submit to it. It was getting harder and harder to open your eyes again. You knew you had to tap out before you actually passed out.
“Levi, I don’t think I can keep going. I’m about to fall asleep sitting up.”
“Aww... Okay. You have been crashing into the walls and stuff a lot, anyway.”
You began the motions to get up so you could return to your own room, but Levi stopped you when he grabbed your arm. “Wh-- Hey! Where are you going?!”
“To my room?”
“Y-You don’t have to leave just because we stopped playing! I still, um, want to spend time with you. I know it isn’t my birthday anymore, but… I mean, if you’re tired you can just watch me play a game, instead!”
Levi leaned forward to where his handheld Funtendo console was docked and pulled it out. You watched him as he sorted through the menus and confirmations, before he turned it around to show you the opening title of the game he was referring to.
“There is this other game that I’ve gotten into called Anima 3! It combines elements of standard role-playing and simulation games in a really interesting way. It kind of has hints of dating sim mechanics, but the dating function itself isn’t really important. That part of the game is more integral when you start entering the dungeon at nighttime. The relationships you build in your daily life affect the battle levels and stuff, because the more you strengthen them, the higher the level you get for different types of power. Oh, do you know about tarot cards? The game heavily bases itself around the Major Arcana cards. Anyway, the relationships you work to maintain relate to the certain creatures that you use in fights. So, keeping the balance of social links and your strength up is super important! You pretty much have free reign during the day except for scripted events. This game is so deep and intricately well done with the way it weaves the plot between characters and their personal developments and friendships. I’ve even teared up at a few scenes, like this one where one of the characters that finally came back to the dormitory where the group lives – oh, yeah, he was a part of the original members before he left, because – ah, that is totally a spoiler, sorry – so, he comes back, and he starts to find a place with the group again, but something terri-- AH! I almost completely ruined his story arc for you! Uh, so, yeah, I mean, this game is pretty amazing, and it even has a really good soundtrack that I’ve been listening to nonstop since I downloaded it.”
Levi rambled and gushed about the details of the game and its story while he loaded up the current save slot. You were a bit lost on some of the context he was giving, but he was enthusiastic about showing it to you, so you just let him talk.
Once the game was ready, he brought himself next to you. Unfortunately, the jellyfish mobile was casting their lights on the display of the console from your spot, so you leaned more into Levi, trying to lessen the obscuring glare. That resolved your issue for the most part, but now Levi had his arm pinned uncomfortably. He angled the game so you could see it better and so you could get off him, but honestly, it just seemed to be more awkward, because now he was trying to reposition himself without ruining your viewpoint.
“Okay, this isn’t working,” Levi said after ascending a few of the dungeon floors. “Can you move away a bit?”
Puzzled, you scooched yourself apart from Levi as he stretched his legs out, spreading them open enough for a decent amount of space in-between them. He gave you a flustered look as he patted the floor twice. “How about you, um, come sit here, and then I can… uh, I mean, it’ll just be easier on both of us this way, okay?”
Hiding an involuntary smile at his embarrassed thoughtfulness, you sat yourself in-between his legs and scooted into what felt like an acceptable spot. You could feel Levi against your back. He was stiff and hesitant to relax, but he was simultaneously invitingly warm. This was so much cozier compared to the twisted, leaning position. Levi brought his arms around you, locking you into an open embrace as he held his gaming console in front you. You could both share the screen now without compromising uncomfortable postures now.
Or so you thought, anyway. Levi was struggling with adjusting with the way he was trying to hold the game. His arms would slightly squeeze you and extend forward, but then he would widen his elbows out and bring the console in too close. He fiddled with a range of different forms before he dropped the console in defeat, sighing dramatically.
“You’re going to have to be a little bit closer for me to be able to do this right. Here...”
An arm snaked itself around your waist, and Levi dragged you backwards with a smooth ease until you were completely in his lap. He closed his legs around yours, drawing in a knee so that it framed your left hip. This was basically a hug in all senses of the word with how he was holding you. The space was tighter but not too imposing. It felt more authentic than the spacious attempt you had tried to do, and from the relaxed shift of weight behind you, you could tell Levi felt better about this new arrangement.
Settling into Levi, you could feel his chest steadily moving, lulling you into a relaxation. It was a rarity to be this intimately close with him, and being inside his personal space, you could pick up whiffs of his smell. His scent was a slightly sharp and pungent smell, almost medicinal, but with impressions of a sweet and warm undertone that balanced out the more distinct smell. A soothing resinous-like odor that vaguely reminded you of the seashore. The enticement of sleep was more inviting with his arms around you, nudging you on occasion when his arms twitched as he pressed buttons. The soft clicks from the control pad only added to the lullaby of senses. Barely focusing on the game screen, the colors were becoming blurs and smudges as Levi played on, unaware of your drifting consciousness.
He had such a habit of losing himself into the worlds of 2D media, but he came back to reality when he needed to stretch his aching arms. A little bit ashamed and sheepish about the fact he forgot about you, he tried to play it off with just how immersive the gameplay was, running off with the excuse that Anima 3 was just that phenomenal and so on.
“So, what do you think so far?”
He paused for a reply, but silence was the only thing that answered his question.
“Hey, are you ignoring me..?”
Your lack of a response diverted just enough of his concentration that Levi finally noticed something was off with you. He glanced down, and his attention for the game diminished almost completely when he realized that you were dead asleep in his lap. He felt his cheeks flare up instantly as his brain tried to process this turn of development.
“Hey..! Whoa whoa whoa! Are you actually seriously asleep right now?!”
Self-consciousness of the situation and shocked nerves rattled him, and his hands started shaking, vibrating the game. It almost slipped out of his grasp, and he barely caught it before it dropped on you. Levi froze motionless as he waited to see if the sudden movement was going to cause you to rouse from your slumber. You were gone from the world, though, thoroughly beyond anything minor waking you up.
“Hgnahhh…” When he released a breath that had been unconsciously caught it came out as a weird, whiney sighing noise that made his heated cheeks burn more. Levi scrunched his eyebrows in dismay and ignored the mocking thought of how you would have definitely laughed if you had heard it.
Saving the progress in the game and turning it off, Levi placed it out of the way. A sudden wave of tiredness made his body feel heavy, and the warmth you were giving off only added to the effect of drowsiness that he didn’t feel like fighting off. Bracing an arm around you as he lounged back on the rug, moving cautiously so he wouldn’t disturb you awake from his movements, it donned on him as he cuddled with you that he was essentially being used as a body pillow. The blush he was sporting was probably a sight to see as it went in for round three of displaying his awkwardness.
Hugging you more onto him, your head rising and falling with each breath that he took, Levi made peace with his hangups and the high chance one of his brothers might barge into his room in the later hours of the morning, but for right now, he was enjoying his time alone with you. It was still in the remnants of his birthday and having you with him was a perfect conclusion to a day that was focused on him by his brothers and the royalty of the Devildom. It wasn’t too long before Levi fell asleep himself, unaware and uncaring of the wails of despair coming from the kitchen from sources that had strung up to the ceiling.

Leviathan Bday Collab 2023! Pajama Party prompt.
genre: fluff pairing: leviathan and gender-neutral mc ----------------- MC spent a month preparing for something very important to them, talking with their closest friends and making their plans were as detailed as possible. Buying gifts and decorations, making sure that everyone had time in their schedules and that they kept the date free, ensuring that they all had the outfits that MC had specifically chosen for this day. After all, it was their first year, and possibly the only one, in the Devildom, so they were going to make sure they experienced it in full, even if they meant planning everyone's birthdays on their own, something that they were perfectly happy to do.Once night fell on Leviathan's birthday, the fun had officially begun. The House of Lamentation was bustling with noise and excitement, there was a celebration in order and everyone was looking forward to it. No one was entirely sure what the night had in store for them, but they knew they would be spending as much of it as possible with the Avatar of Envy, per MC's planning.MC had thought about everything. The food, the decorations, the gifts, the games, the matching onesies that everyone would be wearing. They had saved Grimm and ordered limited edition Ruri-Chan items that they knew Leviathan would enjoy. It was his special day, and they would be making sure it was extra special, full of love and gifts that they knew he would cherish and enjoy. To the others it might look like something big that took too much effort, but to MC it was something that they would do for any of their friends, no matter the cost or the day.  The transfer student appeared to be a ball of energy all day, visibly excited, possibly more excited than the birthday boy himself. When the time finally came for the celebration, they were the first one in Leviathan's room. They were there so quickly, infact, that it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that they had been sitting outside of his door the entire time. But, now that everyone had arrived, it seemed a bit crowded, lightly shoving each other around to find somewhere to sit on the pallet they'd made on the floor, MC was determined to stay sat next to Leviathan, practically glued to his hip. It was his special day, afterall, and they were determined to make sure it was amazing. Everything had been planned in advance, nothing could possibly go wrong when it was all so well thought out. And so, they spent the night playing Super Smash Devils. A few, very minor, fights broke out, as was to be expected when there are 7 brothers and their friends playing a competitive game, but, overall, they had a lot of fun and plenty of laughs. Everything was going well, and exactly as MC had planned. Leviathan looked like he was having a lot of fun, Beelzebub was definitely enjoying the food that MC had ordered, some of which they had specifically prepared and themed after his interests. a 7-tier TSL cake, Ruri-Chan themed cookies, and cupcakes with icing designs that looked suspiciously like Henry 2.0. The expression on Leviathan's face when he saw everything was one of amazement and joy, it was obvious that he was happy and enjoying himself. He had fun throughout the entire night. He hadn't lost a single game in the time that they were together, he was overjoyed.  As the night began to end, MC returned with a cake that they had made themself, decorated with a sugar image of Leviathan's face. It gained a few laughs from the party, but the grin on Leviathan's face was something that MC would pride themself in receiving.  "The cake isn't very well-made, but I wanted to make something especially for you," MC grinned as they spoke, placing the tray with the cake in front of Leviathan, "it might not taste very good, but it sure is pretty." The grin never left Leviathan's face as he cut himself a slice, he hadn't figured he'd be eating his own eye on the night of his birthday, but it was interesting. If it were possible, his face lit up even more after he took a bite, it was easy to tell that he was enjoying it, there was no need for words when it was written all over his face, "Well, it's good I guess," was the only response he gave, rolling his eyes. But he was happy, and that was all the response that was needed.  When everyone had a slice of cake, Leviathan stood up, a smile plastered to his face. "I'm really glad you all came here to celebrate with me, I really did have a good birthday, and its all thanks to you guys." It was obvious that he meant it, the party was coming to a close and everyone would be going to bed soon, there was only one thing left for them to do. "Yeah, yeah, save the sentimental talk for later, I think it's about time that we sing happy birthday to you, birthday boy."

Party Animals
Tumblr media
April 8th, 10:17 pm, you are at Purgatory Hall making a single cupcake, and a cake, for Leviathan’s birthday tomorrow. You had asked everyone to help you prepare a surprise party for him. Feeling relief when they all agreed, under one condition, Leviathan has to eat the Celestial Realm syrup. It had not even been over a month since the incident with Luke’s mixup during breakfast. With much hesitance, you agree so you can have help for his party, though, now the theme will change. Originally you had planned a Rurichan theme, now it will be animal themed for the sake of help on Levi’s birthday. Luke had given you a recipe to follow for the cake batter, which smelled great and you wanted a taste but remembered about the syrup.
When the cupcake and cake were done and frosted you thanked Luke on your way out. Thanking him for both giving you the recipe and bringing the cake to the party. Once you were back at the House of Lamentation you checked your D.D.D. for the time, 11:52 pm. You head upstairs with the cupcake in hand, stopping at Leviathan’s door. Taking a breath you start to get nervous with a light blush forming on your cheekbones. Nervous because of the syrup in the cupcake, making you start to blush from getting hot. After a few minutes of just standing at the door, you finally knock. No response. It wasn’t a big deal as he was possibly busy playing an updated game or waiting for 12 am for birthday logins where his favorite character will tell him happy birthday. Knocking a few more times, there was still no answer, which you did finally worry about him.
Reaching for the door knob, you opened it. Surprised by the rare occasion that it is unlocked. Walking in you were surprised to only see Henry 2.0 in the room. Not a single screen was on, starting to worry for a different reason. Checking the time you see it is now 11:56 pm. With that, you decide to just check around, but rather quickly. Having walked through almost all rooms, you made your way into the kitchen from the dining room. There you find your other half sitting on his phone. Very focused as always that he didn’t even notice you walking around the kitchen. Placing a candle in the cupcake and lighting, checking the time again, 11:59 pm. You place it in front of him, then hold him from behind. Boom. 12:00 am.
“ Happy Birthday to you,” not giving him time to have a crazy reaction, you continue to sing to him.
“happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Leviachan~,” he is smiling and blushing hard as you sing to him, gently rubbing your arm that is wrapped around him, slowly looking to you,
“happy birthday to you… happy birthday Levi”
Being close with him in your arms, him looking at you, you give him a peck. He blushes hard then you redirect the attention to the candle. Looking as though he is in heaven, but also like he is going to pass out. You gently chuckle while he gathers himself, then he blows out the candle. Unwrapping the liner of the cupcake, bringing it up to his mouth, he took a bite into it, humming gently. Having forgotten about the Celestial Realm syrup you just happily watched him, then, poof, smoke. Once the smoke started to dissipate, you remembered as you saw his giraffe horns. You said nothing but smiled innocently, though, you already knew that Levi knew some spell happened. He got up from sitting and walked in front of the refrigerator. Eyes widening, followed by a scream. Luckily everyone else was aware that his reaction would be as it is.
Seeing his reflection he freaked out a bit. Looking back and forth towards you and his reflection. Finally stepping away he stared at you, he can’t be very mad but he was more so upset. Leviathan’s feelings had now changed to anger and embarrassment. Almost summoning Lotan, but was stopped by Lucifer, in demon form, walking in.
“I advise you to rethink your action, THIS INSTANT”
Lucifer was calm then raised his voice. The younger only gulped and stormed out of the room. You looked at Lucifer a bit teary eyed but visibly sad. Catching yourself before anything, you just nodded towards him as a thank you, then left the kitchen. About to go to your own room, you stop at the top of the stairs. Debating on seeing Leviathan before you head to your room. Easily decided, you go to Leviathan’s door, knocking and quickly saying the secret phrase. He can’t do anything except open the door, after all, you are his Henry… right? Within a couple of minutes there was no answer, but of course you respected how he enjoyed being alone but also, how could he not answer?! With that, you only barged in, his room looked the same as the first time you went in. Going to his tub, you saw him buried in his blankets. Silence filled the gap between the both of you, with his giraffe sense of smell, he knew you were standing there.
“Levi… I’m sorry, I didn’t initially plan for it to hap-” You were cut off by the other,
“ So you knew that you were giving me the syrup?” Leviathan’s voice got deep and stern.
“I-I’m sorry Leviathan, I truly am sorry.”
“That doesn’t matter MC! I had plans for today! Specifically for u- never mind, just leave me alone for now.”
The tone he gave put a sting in your chest. Respecting the birthday boy’s request, you leave his room, but not before kissing his hand. It wasn’t to get him to forgive you faster, you usually did it no matter the circumstance. You had a hard time sleeping, but you did as much as you could. Waking up you were surprised to see the otaku laying next to you in bed, right away you wrap your arms around him. Once Leviathan had woken up, you both had a long talk. Though you still hadn’t told him of his birthday party, only telling him that you wanted him in giraffe form for a fun difference. He believed it, then time came. Everyone had set up the Lamentation dining hall in animal decorations. Everyone was wearing their everyday clothes, only you and Leviathan animals. The indigo haired male was embarrassed though calmed down with you by his side, and of course time.
Cake time came, he held you in his arms  for his own comfort which you couldn’t resist from the one who isn’t very forward and confident; singing happy birthday, for you once again, to the third oldest brother. Taking bites of cake everyone slowly changed, to the birthday boy’s surprise no one was fazed by it. Asmodeus was bit down, but was reassured of his beauty which made him more open and tell Leviathan everything about the party planning. Anger from Leviathan was now towards his brothers for essentially bargaining you, but you took him away to be by yourselves.
You and Leviathan were in his room. You sat in his tub, pulling him in with you. Having him keep the light off. His room has a sort of ambience when its dark, the jellyfish gently light up, Henry 2.0’s tank is also dim, but enough to be awake for his own health. Leviathan rests his head on your shoulders, now being held by you. Eyes meeting every few minutes, looking to the jellyfish above you both then to each other. Finally you give up and kiss him again. This time it was full of love, gentle but deep, he reciprocated after a few seconds. Breaking the kiss you just smile at the tomato red face looking at you, cupping his cheeks.
“I love you Leviachan, happy birthday.” you smile and hug him. He has been nervous and overwhelmed while both of you are  tangled together in the tub bed, but builds his courage to speak to the one he deeply loves.
“Thank you MC-chan, I love you a lot as well… another great birthday for the books.”

The Adventures of Leviachan and the Case of the missing Ruri!`
Irritated at still not being able to find his figurine, Levi almost snapped at MC. He paused when he saw what they were holding. Blinking a few times, he blinked away his tears of frustration and wiped his eyes.
“R-right! Satan plays detective all the time when he loses things. We can do that too!”
Prompt: Detective
My written contribution to this year's unofficial Leviathan collab ^^ Thank you to the Moderators who organized it and for letting the fandom be a part of it!
Pairing: Levi and MC (Sheep-chan)
“This is not the last you will hear from me, Ruri-Hana! I will have my REVENGE!!!”
The sea monster on screen sunk into the whirlpool Ruri had created with her wand, disappearing below the water's surface before it became calm once again. Ruri floated above the waters safely, smiling triumphantly.
“No, Mr. Sea Monster. Not if I have anything to say about it! Ruri-Hana will always save the day!”
Levi had stood up with Ruri and flashed her iconic pose as she delivered her lines. Ruri-Hana and the Threat of the Seas had only been out for 3 days and within those three days, Levi’s already memorized the movie script word for word. The writing, graphics, animation, all of it drew him in and held his attention in a vice, and Levi, wouldn’t have it any other way.
The movie ended with Ruri flashing her iconic pose and the screen erupting in a burst of colourful flowers before the end credits. Levi reached over for his mouse to rewind the movie and start it again. It was a shame there was no end-credit scene, but that just meant he didn’t have to spend the next year worrying about a cliffhanger. While a second movie was teased, there wasn’t anything to back it up. Just as he was about to hit play, his DDD lit up with a text to come down for breakfast before he was late.
Levi quickly checked the time on his computer. The numbers 7:30 lit up the screen. He looked at his DDD again to double-check the time. He’d been up watching this movie all night… Groaning, Levi stretched in his gaming chair. Hearing his joints pop after spending hours in the same position was simultaneously reliving and painful. He could probably watch a regular episode from the series before- His DDD lit up with an incoming call from Satan. What could his brother want at this hour? Picking up his DDD, he answered the call. “Sa-“
“So you are still alive. Good to know. Come down for breakfast before Beel eats it all.”
“What- It’s 7:30. We still have half an hour before-“
“What “half-an-hour”. You didn’t forget about the meeting this morning, did you?”
Levi blinked a few times in confusion as he pulled up his calendar on his desktop.
“Levi…” a heavy sigh could be heard from the other end. “Get ready. I’ll save something for you. We’re leaving in 15.”
Satan hung up the call, leaving Levi dead silent on the other end. He was startled out of his shock when his DDD pinged with a message from Lucifer. Jumping off his chair, he grabbed his uniform hanging on the front of his closet and ran into the bathroom. He’d completely forgotten about the meeting for quarter-semester check-in. After struggling with his tie and buttons for a solid minute, he finally got his uniform on and grabbed his bag on the way out of his room. He texted Lucifer on his way down the stairs that he was coming and very nearly slid down the last step before catching himself.
Making it to the dining room, he avoided Lucifer’s stares and took a sandwich bag from Satan for his breakfast with a mumbled “thanks”. Grabbing his headphones, he plugged them into his DDD and put them on for the walk to RAD as he ate. Scrolling through his Impify playlists, he finally found the specific soundtrack from the Ruri movie and selected it; setting the rest of the playlist to play on shuffle.
Finally arriving at RAD, Levi didn’t bother taking off his headphones until he sat down and Diavolo began speaking. He pulled out the papers he needed for his part of the reports – progress on the afterschool curriculars for the tech department – and set them on the table. He half-tuned out the meeting, playing out scenes from the movie in his head and occasionally inserting himself into the scenes to fight alongside Ruri. He didn’t notice the meeting was over until Satan elbowed him to get his attention. Looking up, he could see the entire table looking his way. He blinked a few times before Lucifer cleared his throat, causing Levi to shrink into his seat after being put at the center of attention. “Umm… Yes? What was the question?”
Lucifer sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head.
“If you could pay attention now, Levi. I had asked if you had any improvements you’d like to recommend to your departments.”
Levi shook his head.
“Nothing I didn’t already bring up, no.”
“Alright then, I believe that settles all my matters. We’ll meet again next week, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel.” Diavolo grinned and settled his hands on the table, looking at the brothers as crickets chirped in the background. Varying degrees of confusion on each brother’s face.
“My Lord…?-“
Diavolo waved his hand dismissively. “It’s a human saying, Lucifer. Never mind. I’ll text Lucifer the meeting date and time for our next check-in. You’re all dismissed.”
The brothers all got up and broke off into their own smaller groups. Various conversations mixing as they left the council room. Lucifer stayed behind as he organized his papers. He glanced up at Diavolo from the corner of his eye.
“That was very… spontaneous, even for you.”
Diavolo pouted and put on his best puppy eyes. “Aww, but Lucifer, Levi’s into that stuff, isn’t he? I’ve been watching human animation to prepare myself for his party.”
Lucifer shook his head with a sigh and a slight smile. “That is the wrong genre of animation, Diavolo. He’s more into Japanese animation and their mobile Gacha games. Believe me, it’s not worth devoting too much of your time to.”
“Now now, Lucifer. Isn’t that something for me to decide?” Diavolo rested his elbows on the table and his chin atop his hands. His head was tilted slightly as his voice jumped up an octave as he questioned his friend. He smiled as Lucifer seemed to stiffen and swallow his wanted response.
“Right, it was not my intention to overstep, my Lord.”
Diavolo rested his arms and turned around in his chair to face Lucifer, one arm resting on the table, the other in his lap. He chuckled quietly and kept his aloof smile.
“I was only teasing, Lucifer. You needn’t stiffen up. Speaking of Leviathan’s birthday, what are you planning for it? I know you always try and do something special for your brothers.”
Lucifer filed away his papers and while he had every notion to cut this meeting short, he wanted to get back at Diavolo, and what better way than to tease him back? He smirked and glanced at Diavolo through his peripheral.
“There’s a little something, yes. I guess you’ll have to just wait and see, my Lord.”
Lucifer couldn’t help but chuckle at the immediate pout from his response. He stood up and adjusted the strap of his shoulder bag.
“I guess I can give you one hint. It’ll be quite, magical~ I’ll see you tomorrow, Diavolo.”
Levi shut off his alarm, groaning in annoyance to having been woken up. Snuggling into his body pillow, he mumbled about sleeping in for 5 more minutes when his door burst wide open, a shrill scream escaping him as a result. Mammon however was undisturbed by Levi’s scream and marched right over to the bathtub, effortlessly lifting his younger brother out of the bathtub.
“C’MON SLEEPY HEAD! TIME T’A-AAAHHHHH”
Levi’s tail had wound its way around to smack Mammon square in the chest, knocking both him backwards toward Levi’s door and the wind out of him.
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? YOU DON’T JUST WAKE SOMEONE UP LIKE THAT YOU IDIOT! YOU STUPID MONEY-GRUBBING SCUMBAG IDIOT OF A BROTHER! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT-“
“What’s all this ye-“, Beel had popped his head through the door. He heard screaming on his way to breakfast and got curious.
“This idiot decided to break down my door and just grab me out of my peaceful sleep-“
“You were awake-“
“Shut up, Mammon!”
“He was making sure you weren’t missing your breakfast, Levi… We told him to make sure you were awake before I ate it all…” Beel tilted his head in confusion, but didn’t help Mammon off the floor. “Did you forget?”
Levi stared at Beel, blinking in confusion as he tried to remember what was so important about today that they actually arranged this. Before he could come to an answer, Beel provided it for him.
“You knew you’d sleep in since we don’t have RAD today and you knew Mammon was the most annoying out of all of us-“
“HEY-“
“So you asked him to make sure you didn’t miss your birthday breakfast. You don’t remember that?”
Birthday… Breakfast…? Levi grabbed his DDD off the charger and checked the date. His eyes widened when he realized that Beel was talking about his birthday. It was already the 9th!?
“Satan’s breakfast smells so good….” Beel drifted away from the door, quickly making his way downstairs toward the kitchen. They already made sure that Levi was awake so if he didn’t get to the food in time, well, that was Levi’s fault.
“W-WOAH! WAIT UP BEEL!” Levi in turn had rushed out of his room. Satan had told him his present would have been Ruri-inspired meals of Japanese food for breakfast and dinner. He wasn’t about to let Beel just devour it all before he could even get a taste!
Levi raced downstairs, his demon form disappearing as he made his way to the dining room. Satan was coming out of the kitchen with Beel practically towering over him, waiting for breakfast to be served. An entire spread containing everything from omelettes with Azuki-tan drawn with ketchup on them to miso soup with flower cutouts of tofu were spread around the table while the brothers filed in.
“Just sit down, Beel! This is for Levi. I have more for you in the kitchen.” Satan plated the last of the omelettes with a sigh, placing a hand on Beel’s chest and pushing him back. His other hand pointing towards the kitchen “Kitchen.” Beel quickly turned around and went back to grab his portion of breakfast while the rest of the brothers, sans Lucifer, sat down. Levi was too busy admiring the spread that he didn’t notice Asmo coming up behind him until he felt the 5th born throw his arms around him. Startled, Levi yelped and seized. Asmo only giggled and nuzzled his cheek against his older brothers.
“Happy Birthday, Levi! Oh your skin’s feeling so rough- you haven’t been staying up all night binging and gaming again, have you? I’ve told you over and over again that you need a good night’s sleep to keep it nice and clear. Your eyebags are starting to form, dear.” Asmo had grabbed Levi’s face with both his hands, squishing his cheeks and frowning over his complexion. “Come to my room after breakfast and I’ll give you the Birthday glow up~”
Levi grabbed Asmo’s wrists and slowly brought them down from his face. “My skin’s just fine, Asmo. And I don’t have eyebags. They form after a week up anyways…”
“What was that,” Asmo tilted his head as Levi mumbled the last bit.
“N-nothing!”
“Not to interrupt, but you might want to eat it while it’s still hot and before Beel finishes his own breakfast.” Satan addressed the two with his hands on his hips. Belphie was already asleep at the table and Mammon had just made his way downstairs.
“Were y’a just gonna leave me there on the floor!?”
“Where’s Lucifer?” Completely ignoring Mammon, Asmo sat down and reached for an omelette and pulled out his DDD to take a picture while Mammon continued to gush over the food. “Oh Satan, these little drawings are just adorable!”
Satan smiled proudly and took his own seat, reaching for a bowl of miso soup. “The designs were simple enough. Ruri’s design though, man that took me 10 whole minutes. Drawing cats on my omelettes make good practice though.”
“Shtiw Shweeping,” Beel joined the group while carrying an armful of various dishes and some rice in his mouth. He didn’t want to eat alone in the kitchen after all. Placing his plates down, he nudged Belphie awake and gave him some boiled buffo eggs before swallowing. “He was up late last night. I could hear him sleeping when I passed by his room.”
Satan rolled his eyes and scooped up a spoonful. “Tch, of course he couldn’t even be up for this.”
“Easy Satan, you don’t know what he could have been doing last night-”
“I know what he was doing, Asmo. I’m just saying.”
Levi wasn’t paying much attention to the conversations around him. He was too busy with the breakfast in front of him. He took out his DDD and took a few pictures of the little customizations Satan mixed in with the breakfast. He wondered how much prep this would have taken. If breakfast was this nice, he couldn’t wait for dinner to see what Satan would come up with. “It’s even better than the official Ruri themed snacks and official meals. Thank you, Satan.”
Satan looked up at his brother and smiled. “Wait until you see dinner. Today and today only, alright, Levi?”
“Yes,” he laughed and grabbed a fork. He had taken the omelette with Ruri’s chibi face on it and with a heavy heart, cut into the design. Just as he did so, he felt something bump into his leg. Looking down, he noticed MC walking around looking seemingly half asleep. Picking them up, he set them in his lap. That immediately earned him jealous looks from the rest of his brothers. He smirked and grabbed a small bowl of rice for them to start with while he ate his eggs. It was his birthday and he intended to keep MC to himself today.
Lucifer did eventually show up near the end of breakfast looking like he’d spent all night marathoning his paperwork on the computer. Asmo immediately launched into a spiral over his appearance and invited him to join him and Levi in his room after breakfast for a spa day. Levi swallowed down his bite with some tea and blinked at Asmo. “I never agreed to that-“
“You didn’t say no either,” he waved his hand dismissively, “Ne- Lucifer, what do you say? A little one-on-one time with-“
“I’m busy, Asmodeus. Another time.” Lucifer walked by the dining room toward the kitchen to brew himself some coffee. Hearing the coffee pot going, Satan rolled his eyes.
Levi finished his breakfast and grabbed the soup MC was drinking. With MC in one arm and their soup in the other hand, he slipped out of the dining room back to his room. He knew his brothers would have some sort of party planned for him today, but that wouldn’t be until later tonight. He specifically requested not to do anything this afternoon. He wanted time to relax and prepare before socializing later with his brothers, Purgatory hall, and the royals. Everyone was invited and he was praying that someone told Solomon Satan was taking care of the food. The last thing he wanted today was food poisoning from Solomon’s cupcakes…
Sitting himself down in his gaming chair, he reached over to grab his headphones and a smaller set for MC. He gave them their soup and set the headphones atop their head. They could just listen to him game for now. He’ll pull up something 2-player later. Logging into his computer, he opened his game and wound his arms around MC on either side of them to reach his mouse and keyboard. Grinning as the game started playing.
About an hour later, he felt MC squirm in his lap a few times. “The round’s almost done MC. Just a second.” A few minutes later, the victory message played over the screen. A triumphant ‘Yes!’ could be heard as Levi pumped his fist. “Alright MC. What do you want to play? Devil Kart? Demon Crossing? There’s Demon Boy and Angel Girl? Oh! How about this new retro game I found? Immortal Combat! Apparently it used to be a big arcade game back in the human realm.”
Levi pulled up his browser to search for the website he found the game on when he felt MC tug at his sleeve. “Huh? Just a second MC, let me pull it up. Unless you had something else in mind?”
MC shook their head and pointed to Levi’s desk shelf. Several figurines, gaming controllers and accessories were organized on the shelves. Levi turned his head slightly in confusion. “You want to play with the console instead of keyboard? Sure- “
MC shook their head again and hopped out of Levi’s lap. They pointed to an empty section of the shelf. A small spot where there was no dust. A ring of a clean base could be seen, like something was removed. Levi rolled over and looked over the shelf. His eyes widened when he noticed that his special edition figurine from Ruri-Hana’s new Searise Monster Movie was missing! Bolting up from the chair, he started looking around the area in a panic.
“No no no no! It was just there yesterday! M-maybe it fell somewhere? MC, help me look for it! It’s a brand new special edition figurine- only 50 were made and the first 5 were signed copies! There’s no way I lost my signed copy of the figurine!”
He took everything off that specific shelf, looking through every single one of the shelves around the room. Around the computer. Behind it, under it, under the desk and his chair. He even took his blankets out of the bathtub to look for it! MC didn’t have any luck either, and feel Levi’s frustration and panic rise with each passing second, they padded over to the costume bin. They knew it was likely Mammon either took it or Levi just misplaced it, but they didn’t want the 3rd born running around the house in a rampage and summoning Lotan… Grabbing a hat and magnifying glass, they walked over to Levi and tugged on his pant leg. Irritated at still not being able to find his figurine, Levi almost snapped at MC. He paused when he saw what they were holding. Blinking a few times, he blinked away his tears of frustration and wiped his eyes.
“R-right! Satan plays detective all the time when he loses things. We can do that too!”
He grabbed the hat and magnifying glass from MC and went over to his cosplay trunk before pulling out a trench coat, a monocular, and a smaller magnifying glass for MC. He put the trench coat on and helped MC put on the monocular. He stood back with his hand on his chin, thinking. There was something missing… browsing through his shelves, he looked for something in particular…
“Aha! Yes!” Grabbing an Azukki-tan pin, he pushed it through the chain of the monocular and fastened it before grabbing one for himself and pinning it to the brim of his hat. “There we go. All set! The Mystery of who took the Special Signed Edition of Ruri-Hana Searise Monster Movie Figurine will be solved and the figurine returned to its rightful spot on its shelf! Let’s go MC!
Running out of his room, he looked behind him to make sure MC was following him. They were padding after him; looking through the magnifying glass. He couldn’t help but smile and blush slightly at how cute they looked like that.
“First, we’ll need a list of suspects! Now, let’s see. I was alone in my room all night yesterday. No one came to see me. I don’t remember if it was there when I woke up or not, which means someone must have stolen it between then and breakfast! No one was left alone in my room besides,” he looked down at MC for a minute, the two of them nodding their heads, “Mammon!”
Together, the two marched over to Mammon’s room, Levi taking the lead by busting down Mammon’s door much like he did with his this morning. “MAAMMMOOONNN!!! WHAT DID-“
MC cut Levi off by tugging on his trench coat and folding their arms. Shaking their head, they pointed to their magnifying glass. Levi looked down at the matching one in his hand and remembered. There were a few questions that needed to be asked first. Looking back at Mammon – who was still seated stunned on his couch – he pulled out a notepad from one of the coat pockets.
“Where were you this morning between the hours of- what time did I go to sleep last night…”
Mammon blinked at Levi for a few seconds before he realized the 3rd born was expecting an answer. “How the hell am I supposed t’a know!? I passed out after 11 last night cause I knew I had t’a be up to wake you up early today!”
“Okay so you weren’t in my room when I was sleeping. Then- What were you doing while we were all at breakfast between the time you came to wake me up and came back down?”
Mammon blinked once again at Levi, confused as to what the hell was going on and where all this came from. “Are one of yer things missin’ again-“
“Aha! I never said what was wrong! Only the guilty would kno-“
“Y’a only act like this when one of yer things are missin’, Levi. ‘Sides, why would I steal somethin’ from y’a if I’m gonna give y’a a gift anyways?” He rolled his eyes and went back to counting the Grimm on the table in front of him. “I didn’t take nothin’. I got off my ass- thank you for knockin’ it flat, by the way, then came downstairs t’a eat before Beel ate everythin’.”
“Is that so… And where did all this money come from, hmm? My Figurine is worth at least double so if-“
“I got paid yesterday, Levi”
Silence stretched throughout the room for a full minute before Mammon looked back up at Levi from the corner of his eyes. “Levi…?”
Levi was looking around Mammon’s room, stunned by his older brother’s responses. Hearing his name, he shook his head to clear his mind.
“Are y’a good?”
“You really didn’t take it?”
“I may be ‘scum’, but seriously Levi. No I didn’t take nothin’. Maybe tomorrow but- owww! The Hell!”
Levi narrowed his eyes at Mammon and struck him in the head with the bottom of his magnifying glass. Scoffing, he rolled his eyes and sighed. “Sorry… Do you know who it could have been?”
Mammon rubbed the top of his head and looked up at Levi with one eye before opening the other. “Y’a should be sorry. An’ no, I don’t. Ask someone else.”
Frowning in defeat, Levi looked at the Grimm on the table and took a small handful. Mammon jumped to his feet, tensing and trying to reach out to swipe the Grimm back from Levi. “HEY! Y’A DON’T-“
“You still owe me 300 Grimm for last week, Mammon. Don’t forget that.”
Leaving Mammon alone in his room, Levi left the room and shut the door once MC was out with him. He scratched the top of his head. “Okay but if it wasn’t Mammon… who else could it have been?”
He walked around the house with his chin in hand, thinking aloud. “I haven’t seen Asmo all morning. Satan was busy making breakfast. Belphie’s always asleep… Beel was by my room this morning! To the kitchen!”
Levi started speedwalking toward the kitchen when the sound of Beel’s stomach caught his attention from the living room. Coming to a stop, he backtracked to the living room and peeked over the sofa where Beel was sitting with Belphie asleep in his lap.
“Beel?”
“Satan won’t let me in the kitchen… can you get me something to eat, Levi? I’m hungry and Belphie fell asleep on me. I don’t want to wake him up…” Beel gave Levi his best puppy-dog eyes. He really was hungry but Satan won’t let anyone into the kitchen so they don’t eat the food he was making for dinner.
“Buddy I don’t think you’ll wake up Bel-“
Beel gasped as MC handed him a bag of popcorn. From where they got it, no one knew, but Beel now had some food. He reached down to hug MC tightly. “Thanks! Now I don’t have to wake Belphie up!”
Levi shrugged and took out his notepad. At least now he could have Beel’s attention without him focusing only on his stomach. “Where were you between last night and breakfast?”
Beel’s chewing slowed down as he thought about it. Swallowing, he tilted his head. “I was watching the New Super Devil Bro’s with Belphie last night, went for a midnight snack run, went to sleep. Woke up for more snacks because I was hungry, went back to sleep. Woke up for my morning jog, came back, tried to get a snack, but Satan had already started breakfast and wouldn’t let me in- he did give me a bowl of poisonberry’s though, so I ate those, took a shower, then found you yelling at Mammon in your room. Then we went to have breakfast.”
Levi put his notebook down about halfway through Beel’s recap of last night and this morning. There was nothing telling from any of that. “And you didn’t go into my room at all?”
Looking up at Levi with a bit of confusion, Beel shook his head. “No… is something wrong, Levi?”
Groaning, Levi sat himself down forcefully, hitting his head with the open notebook, mumbling into it. “Someone took my special edition figure and it wasn’t Mammon… Whenever Satan plays detective-“
“IT’S NOT A GAME!” Satan’s voice could be heard shouting from the kitchen. He came out with a hand towel, leaning against the doorframe. He smirked at the looks he got from the 3 in the room. “Demons have good hearing. You lost your figurine?”
Levi nodded and leaned back against the couch, turning his head to look at Satan. “How do you normally find things when you play detective?”
“Like I said earlier, I don’t play detective. I become a detective. It’s not the same. When did you lose it?”
“I don’t know… I’m pretty sure I had it last night. I didn’t even notice it was missing until MC pointed it out.”
“So it went missing between last night and this morning?”
“Yes, but Mammon didn’t take it. I checked. He and Beel were the only ones in my room…”
Satan smiled and slung the towel over his shoulder. “Are you sure?”
Levi tilted his head at the 4th born. “What’s that supposed to mean? Of course I’m sure.”
Pushing himself off the doorway, he waved as he went back to the kitchen. “Then good luck searching.”
Levi groaned and facepalmed, sinking further into the couch. “Yeah. Big help, Satan.”
“ANYTIME!”
“Why do I get the feeling he knows more than he lets on…”
“Maybe ask Asmo if he’s seen it?” Beel munched on the fistful of popcorn. He already seemed to have finished half the bag. Levi got up and slid his notebook back in his pocket. “Yeah- might as well. Detective Levi will find a clue somewhere! …It sounds better when Satan says it.”
“OF COURSE IT DOES-“
“SHUT UP SATAN! Geez, come on MC. Asmo should be in his room.”
Pulling out a granola bar, MC handed it to Beel before hurrying after Levi. Walking through the halls, they felt bad over how dejected Levi seemed to be with each dead end. Pressing themselves against his leg, they looked up at him. Levi looked down to see MC’s face. He pouted and pet the top of their head. “Don’t look at me like that… you’ll make me feel sorry for feeling sorry.” Laughing quietly, he gave MC a small smile. “We’ll find it today! Don’t worry!” Whether he was trying to cheer himself up or MC up, he didn’t know. He just wanted to find his figurine. He didn’t think he’d be able to enjoy his birthday party if he was too busy wondering where it was.
Reaching Asmo’s door, he lifted his fist to knock when the door swung open. The front of his shirt was grabbed as he was dragged inside. “W-WHOA! What the-“
“You actually came! Don’t worry about anything, I have the whole setup spread out! Oh we’re going to make you look perfect for your party! I just knew you’d come! MC darling, have a seat right there. I’ll get to you once I’m done with Levi, kay~?”
MC climbed up onto the vanity stool and kicked their legs, stifling a laugh as Asmo started doting over Levi. Pulling out their DDD, they pulled up Mononoke Land to pass the time.
It was about 2 hours later before they were finally released by Asmo’s clutches. Levi sat in the corner while he finished up with MC. “So you really have no idea where my figurine is?”
“Levi hun, I didn’t even know you had one-“
“Of course I had one! I’ve been talking about this movie a month before it came out!”
Asmo put down the brush and let MC hop off the vanity before packing everything up. “I don’t know what to tell you. I’m sure it will come up when you’re not looking for it anymore.”
“Jee… thanks… Let’s go MC.” Levi stood up and left the room with MC. Feeling his DDD buzz, he opened it up to the group chat. Everyone else began arriving for his party, but he wasn’t really feeling it. He looked down at his companion. “If I don’t show up, do you think anyone will notice?”
MC looked up at Levi, blinking twice.
“Right- of course they’d notice. I’m the Main Character for tonight.” Sighing heavily, he made his way to the living room. “We might as well see what Satan whipped up for dinner.”
Walking into the living room, he took off the coat and hat, laying them over the arm of one of the couches just as the Purgatory Hall residents came in.
“Happy Birthday Leviathan! Oh? What has you so down?” Simeon held a wrapped present but placed it on the table when he saw the look on Levi’s face.
“What’s with the costume?” Solomon held his own gift, gesturing to the coat Levi just took off.
“Hey guys, thanks. Oh, it’s nothing.” Levi shrugged and sat down. He could smell Satan’s dinner, but Diavolo and Barbatos weren’t here yet, so the food wouldn’t be coming out soon. Satan himself did pop out of the kitchen though. He looked over at Levi sitting dejectedly on the couch. “Still haven’t found it?”
“Found what? Did you lose something, Levi?” Luke perked up. He’d brought some cupcakes, carrying them over to Satan so he could store them safely in the kitchen as it seemed Beel hadn’t been allowed in there.
“My Special Edition Signed Figurine of Ruri-Hana’s Searise Monster Movie model is missing. I’ve been looking for it all day- well, MC and I have been looking all day.”
“If by lookin’ y’a mean harrassin’ us for it, then y’a, you were. Y’a still haven’t found the thing?”
Levi shook his head and glared at Mammon. He wasn’t really in the mood to celebrate as the others in the room exchanged looks on what they could do to cheer him up. In that moment, Lucifer came in with Diavolo and Barbatos behind him.
“The House of Lamentation, quiet? How often does that happen?” Diavolo’s cheerful voice carried through the room. “Happy Birthday Leviathan! Another wonderful year with the rest of your brothers and many more to come!”
Lucifer raised a brow at Levi’s lack of response. “Leviathan-“
“Right, right. Thanks Lord Diavolo. I guess…”
Lucifer sighed and shook his head. “Levi, what’s the problem.”
“He misplaced one of his figurines. You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you, Lucifer?” Satan looked at his older brother and raised a brow, knowing full well but wanting Lucifer to say it instead.
“Ah, this figurine perhaps?” Lucifer smiled and revealed the signed movie figurine from his inner coat pocket. Levi looked up and sprang to his feet when he saw it. His eyes widened as he looked between the stand and his brother.
“YES! Wait- how- when- Why did you take it!?”
Lucifer chuckled and held up a hand to calm his younger brother. “Easy, Levi. I simply had to borrow it for your gift. Now she’s still fragile and only lasts for a few hours. She might not be a perfect copy, but it was the closest I could get. You can come out now.”
From behind Lucifer, a small child sporting 2 twin piglets and a bright pink and white dress stepped out. Big purple eyes looked up and around the room in curiosity before her eyes landed on Levi. “Leviachan..?” She walked over to the demon and tilted her head to the side before reaching out to touch him. “You are Leviachan, right?”
Levi stood rooted to the spot the moment he saw Ruri step out from behind Lucifer. His eyes darted between her and his brother, as if trying to figure out if this was real or not. When he felt her touch him though, he felt his face turn a bright red before his knees buckled. Simeon just barely managed to catch him before he hit the ground.
Ruri looked down at Levi with a tilted head and confused expression. “Oh… did I scare him? Hmm? Oh hi, what a peculiar companion.” Ruri looked at MC who seemed to be handing her the Azuki-tan pin Levi had attached to their monocle. Looking down at Levi, they summoned some cold water to splash onto his face to wake him up.
Mammon stared wide eyed at Ruri for a few moments before looking at her and Luke a few times and snickering. “Hey- she’s shorter than the Chihuahua. Y’a ain’t the shortest one today.”
“I’M NOT A CHIHUAHUA!”

Levi jumped, a magazine lying at his feet.
“Ivel-chan was reincarnated as a slime in this life and she will have her revenge!”
He remembered crying buckets last week when they had killed her off. So what if she was a side character? In his heart, she was brighter than the protagonist who only gave fan service these days. At least Ivel-chan had character!
The door to his room flung over. Lucifer peeked inside, his eyes glimmering with sadistic enthusiasm. The twins, who were only toddlers, rested in baby clasps, one on his back, one in the front.
“Levi, dinner has been ready for ten minutes now. Do you want to come to the table or be fed right here?”
“Eep! I-I am coming.”
༺☆༻
“Mammon, don’t play with your food. Asmo, put the mirror down. Satan, don’t glare at your food,” Lucifer chided before feeding a happy Beel.
“Levi, remember that you have to show [Name] around the neighbourhood.”
Levi groaned because he liked staying indoors, “Why do I have to do it?”
“Because their family just shifted in yesterday and [Name] is the same age as you. So as good," Lucifer put emphasis, making Levi shudder, "neighbours, we must do our duty.”
༺☆༻
Seeing you for the first time made Levi feel butterflies in his stomach. You seemed someone out of his memory but that somehow made you feel more real than ever. Every word of protest he had been repeating to himself till then disappeared.
He has had crushes before, both reel and real but it felt different this time. It was as if he knew you from somewhere, and not in a I-have-seen-you-before kind of way but in a I-know-you-well kind of way. It made him feel uncomfortable. He felt violated, as if you could see right through him. He might not be too difficult to read, given that he was nothing more than a yucky otaku but he still had some secrets he wanted to keep safe and your vibe was completely off.
“Do I know you?” you asked, feeling a knot in your stomach that you could not justify.
The idea of letting a stranger show you around a new neighbourhood made you anxious, but the feeling that dominated you right now was curiosity, and surprisingly, interest.
༺☆༻
Levi wasn't that bad. He actually did a good job showing you the places that mattered. The arcade, the stores where the best instant ramen was to be found, the aquarium, and… an anime cafe, too. The last one quite surprised you.
You started hanging out together, mostly because you had become acquainted with him a little, and he seemed fun. He held the same opinion about you and made plans together, although all of it was in his room, playing games.
It felt as if you had lived those exact moments several times with him. Every time he leaned against you during an intense gaming session and apologised, or when he offered you new ramen flavours to try, you would be hit with a memory from a time unknown.
Even though your mind was foggy, you knew that the places you pictured him in were more beautiful than your memory could produce. To add colour to mystery, he was in some sort of an angel cosplay. It all felt really bizarre but it made you think about him more than should be considered healthy.
In his turn, Levi felt guilty that he just couldn't get you out of his mind. He was supposed to be a good friend to you. Wasn't it betraying you if he was, what he believed it to be, falling in love with you?!

The dreams followed soon. You could neither understand the significance nor discuss it with someone to come to a conclusion.
Those felt disconnected and unreal and you kept mixing the details in your head, not to mention the haunted look Levi had the day after you got one of the dreams.
One day, you decided to take him into your confidence. Slowly but firmly.
You said casually, “Levi, why do you look so tired today?”
He blinked and looked frightened, “Huuuu-? Me?? We-Well, there's something on my m-m-mind. I didn't know how to t-tell you this. I've been having strange dreams these days. I got one last night.”
You stopped in your tracks abruptly to turn towards him. He felt hot under your intense gaze.
“Wh-Why are you looking at m-m-me like that?”
“It’s just,” you began, extremely calm and intrigued, “I have been having dreams that I can’t explain for a while too. Maybe we should talk.”

“Is this the place?” you called out to Levi after reaching the top of the hill.
The poor guy had been running to keep up with you. Presently, he sat down to rest. Once he could breathe well, he looked around.
There were a few trees scattered around. Wild grass and dandelions had spread there for a good while, lending a weathered yellow look to the place.
It was hauntingly beautiful in your eyes.
“Y-Yeah, this is the place I saw in my dr-dreams. I have been too afraid to come here alone,” Levi said, almost breathless.
The place seemed to talk to him too.
You explored the place while Levi was content with glancing around from his spot.
A sense of nostalgia washed over you. When you glanced back at him, you knew that he felt the same.
On walking around, you came across a small pond that seemed to draw you in.
That's when you saw something shining between the rocks.
After nudging the rocks aside, you found a locket there. It must have been a pretty colour once but now it was rusted and impossible to open.
You didn't know why you hid it so quickly when you heard Levi calling out for you.
Maybe you needed time to think and figure it out yourself first.

You couldn't put the matter aside for later. The object seemed to call out to you so you put the controller down and turned towards Levi.
“Listen, I picked something up from that place.”
You pulled the locket out and showed it to your friend.
His eyes grew as large as saucepans, “Wh-What do you mean you just randomly picked it up? It could be bad, REALLY b-bad! We still don’t know what those dreams mean!”
You sighed and motioned it towards him, “But isn’t this better than to just speculate?”
He croaked, “The dreams make me uncomfortable… the place… I feel like I have been there before.”
You inched closer to him.
“I understand. Don't worry, I am here with you.”
He stared at you before his lips finally curved up in a smile. “Thank you. You are my true friend, my best friend even!”
Then he shrugged his shoulders, “I guess this is what a protagonist would do. Who am I to stop you? Let's see if it does anything.”
When he touched the locket in your hand, everything around grew dark.

You were transported to a place beautiful beyond expectations. A strong, shaky hand wrapped around your shoulder, surprising you. A quick glance revealed that it was Levi. He was wearing pure white robes and there was a halo floating on his head. You wanted to laugh and tease him but you couldn’t move.
“I love you, [Name],” he said. The pain in his voice and the fire in his eyes took you aback. “I-I promise that I will pr-protect you in the war.”
What war?
Your mouth seemed to have a mind of its own. Your hand intertwined with his and you found yourself smiling while your veins coursed with fear. “I love you too, Levi. I will not let any harm come to you. Forever, remember?”
“Yes, fo-forever,” he spoke shyly but there was a smile on his face.

The scene shifted. You were in armed combat with an extremely angry looking woman.
Damn! She was skilled. Every time she swung her spear, you thought that you were about to die, but your body moved meticulously to avoid the attacks.
“[Name], are you fine?” Levi screamed from somewhere.
The female angel raised her eyebrows and showed you a nasty smile before pointing her spear in the direction of Levi’s voice. Your eyes widened as you turned around only to find him busy commanding his army.
He would notice the spear too late! You launched yourself in front of him just before the fatal blow.
“[Name]!”
The poison flowed through your body with vigour, making you fall in and out of consciousness. Levi caught you just as you were about to give up.
With his features contorted with rage, he turned towards the female angel. She smiled triumphantly.
"SOLDIERS!" Levi bellowed. "Attack her!"
The woman got her spear ready and took charge while Levi's army flew past Levi at top speed.
The legion of angels he had been fighting looked on with hope.
The leader of the opposition commanded in a muffled tone, “Attack [Name] together while Leviathan is distracted. That way he will lose his intention to fight.”
Someone put a dagger through Levi's back but despite not understanding the source of the pain, he shielded you with his body. He prioritised you over his own life.
"Soldiers! Protect [Name]!"
It was too late. His eyes felt heavy owing to the poison in the dagger. He couldn't even see where his sworn angels were for the last time or who had been his nemesis in the end.
You both fell together. If you couldn't be alive together, then you two would be together in death.

“I wish we had a normal life together. Then, we wouldn’t have had to live like outcasts,” Levi whispered when he saw you struggling to keep your eyes open. “As long as I had a chance to live with you, I was happy being an outcast. It seems that our time is up now.”
Levi cried, not because of his condition, but to see life draining from your eyes slowly. “I-I am the happiest angel that’s about to die, [Name]. I am sorry I couldn’t protect you in this life.”
A tear ran down your cheek, “I am sorry too for breaking my promise. I couldn't be with you forever. I couldn't protect you in the end either… I hope we meet again, Levi. I will love you in every lifetime.”
Your hands were intertwined, a locket in your grasp. A locket that enclosed your happiest memory together.

The flashback ended and you both came back to your senses.
“Ouch!” you yelled and tried to pull your hand back. Levi had it in a tight grasp.
On seeing the fear etched on his face, you got quiet and took a deep breath. It had all felt so surreal.
“What just happened?” you murmured, the full burden of the flashback just setting in.
He looked at your entwined hands and noticed the absence of the locket. He felt a pang in his heart. He only knew that it had been important once but he didn't understand how. Surely it was no merch so why did he care so much?!
“I th-think it was the locket," he blurted out. "When we bo-both touched it, we finally saw the… the entire dream.”
A thoughtful silence filled the room.
You whispered, “I don’t think it was a dream.”
You squeezed his hand gently before looking at him with bated breath.
His lower lip quivered, “I don’t think it was a dream either.”
He turned his gaze towards you. His grip tightened, “D-Did I ever tell you that I am glad we met? I'm happy that you're not a dream. I want to keep knowing you, to make more memories with you. Will you let me?”

Two people, seated in a small room, forgot the game they had been playing and instead glanced at each other at the moment. Their eyes held tenderness and the advent of new love.
The vast world danced with endless possibilities for their future. No moment was wasted as they decided their own future, unsullied by their past but still keeping their spirit alive.
It was a life they wanted and that was good enough.
