My pet peeve:
Someone here mentioned how they once saw a 5k fic divided into three chapters.
I don’t know why this annoys me because it’s not like it changes the quality of the writing. I know a simple solution would be to just press the “entire work” button, but I just don’t like doing that.
Which is weird, because I’ve read one shots that are up to 50k words before. I don’t know if anyone else is like this, but I’m just much more willing to read a 20k one shot over a 20k word-20 chapter work.
I’m trying to get over this pet peeve. But I’m not sure if I can because I can be such a slut for long fics.
--
I don't care about chapter length for its own sake, but I doubt you do either if you really think about what was "wrong" with those 20-chapter 20k fics.
Your typical published genre fiction has chapters between 2 and 5k. (This question comes up like every two days in every writing forum of all time, and people have studied it extensively.) You'll get a 500-word prologue or sudden action chapter here and there to punctuate the rest, but if most chapters aren't over 2k, it's often a sign of a writer who isn't able to flesh things out adequately or who doesn't understand how to find a natural inflection point in the narrative.
It's not that a 1k chapter is bad in and of itself: it's what 1k chapter after 1k chapter often signals about the pacing and writing craft.
Not putting in chapter breaks is normalized in fandom, so it's not always a bad sign, but I think it's a more reliable sign of quality if 50k is broken up to some degree. If there are no chapter breaks and no visual section breaks of any kind in a fic of that length, I definitely take that as a bad sign.
--
In my original novels, if I have a chapter that is 5k, I'll take a look at it to see if it should be two instead, based on the content and flow. (5k is a very normal length for novel chapters, but my personal style tends to be more like 2-3k, so 5k is a red flag that I've missed a natural break point.)
But if an entire work is 5k, my experience is that it usually does not have a natural break point to divide it into chapters that feel organic, much less two break points.
And if it does, it's because it's 10k+ of concept shoved into 5k of author writing stamina and unwillingness to revise.

Easy.

That he'll drown in the black spaces of his mind, and that one day he will no longer exist. It's always been like this, the dark spots marking out moments in his life he can't remember. Where for just a moment he's someone else. Having a Dissociative identity disorder, he can't even be entirely sure he's really who he says he is. Then he meets Sherlock Holmes. A brilliant detective who when he looks at you can read your entire life story. John is immediately fascinated and afraid, half-wondering if maybe Sherlock can see the other personalities in him and half terrified of the thought of him finding out. Becoming his flatmate seems at once to be a wonderful and horrible idea. Yet as John's Blackouts become more and more severe and his other personalities begin to truly awaken and show themselves with Sherlock's help, the two soon discover that sometimes even the kindest person can harbour a demon best left untouched inside of them. Because not all of John's other personalities play nicely and some may be hiding secrets best left undisturbed...

Some advice on how to write a long form fic and actually stick with it / survive.
In writing communities, you will hear that there are two main types of writers. Planners/pantsers or architects/gardeners are some of the common names for the types, but basically either you make meticulous notes and plan the entire story out before starting, or you start with an idea and make it up as you go. (Pantsing comes from the phrase "by the seat of your pants".)
Note that these aren't black and white categories; MOST writers will fall in between, but that's normal with most types of things. I started out with a pantser/gardener inclination; I had a cool idea and I posted the first chapter with NO idea where I was going next.
What I learned in that decade of writing was that this will not get you through long pieces of work in a satisfying way. Character arcs are hard to get right, thematical consistency and payoff can happen but it's more luck and chance than your actual skill as a writer. There's always a few geniuses that can do it, but I do not recommend trying to stick to this method alone.
I fall significantly more in between these as a more mature writer after trying and failing at gardening alone. When I posted Like Father Like Son, I went and typed out one bullet point for each chapter I thought I would write. There were 13 planned chapters, so obviously this plan was not accurate – except I have remained true to almost all of the general plot points I had written down in January 2020 at the current time of September 2022. I just expanded on the plot by a significant amount.
As I got used to the tone and got more inspired, I came up with the idea to utilize arcs to break the story down farther. I decided 6 arcs felt right, with a vague idea of what each one would entail, and as I started each arc I would go back in and bullet point what I thought each chapter would be like in more detail. Things still had room to change and grow once I saw where each arc took me, but it is much less daunting to plan 7 chapters at a time instead of 40. It still gave me time to change the little things and have fun seeing where each chapter took me, but it also never left me stranded with no idea where I was trying to swim.
Once I hit the big climax / turning point, which is in Chapter 21: Flatline, I changed tactics a little. I've kept a doc where I write out scenes that I was too excited to wait for, and had accumulated about 20 different little scenes with no order. I put them all on sticky notes and grouped them until I got a clear path, and then I went and solidified the last three arcs in order to get character arcs and themes tied off in a satisfactory way. I had given myself enough time to really think about what I wanted to do, and now that I knew where I currently stood it felt effortless to fill out.
Now. Planning advice aside, how do you actually write a long fic? You will need two main things.
Stamina. This is a skill in and of itself, and unless you have completed at least a novel-length story before, you are new to it! This muscle isn't developed! The best way to throw yourself into training it would be challenging NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in either November or July. In thirty days, you have to write 50k which pans out to 1,667 words a day. I have challenged and won it twice. I totally pantsed both times, which means I think both novels I wrote are severely lacking in quality, but they absolutely trained me to think on my feet and just push through writer's block. It's grueling and at times painful, but the feeling of crossing the 50k mark on November 30th? That's why I've stuck with writing. Genuinely it is worth doing at least once, you WILL become a better writer even if that piece of work itself is a mess.
Find something you are wildly excited to write in every single chapter. Yes, every single one. You tend to start a story very excited about a few select scenes, but when I start a chapter I try and find at least part of it that I am SO excited to type. This will give you energy and I think people can tell when you actually are enjoying writing rather than slogging through it. Bored of the chapter you're writing? Back to the drawing board, there IS a better way to get from points A to C. Even one chapter I wasn't interested in in between two I loved could make me procrastinate for months instead of just enjoying getting back into the writing.

fic length by fic type (category & ship): hp fandom stats
more statsy conversation in the @hpsaffics discord -- @siriusly-sapphic and I were wondering how fic length varied with popularity of ship. @toastystats' findings that het works tend to be longer than f/f and m/m came to mind, and I was reminded that I've been meaning to check if some of these v interesting findings are true for harry potter fic, specifically!
so anyway I did not do quite that but did something kind of related:
Tumblr media
took the total number of works on AO3 (filtered for english only, no crossovers, wc>=1, and otp:true), sorted by word count, and clicked through to get the word count of the ~10th* percentile fic, ~20th percentile fic, etc etc)
(*full disclosure: i used google sheet formulas to get the page number and took the word count of the first fic on that page. so, nth percentile work +/- 20 works.)
"F/F only" = F/F -F/M -M/M &c
"excl. top10" = excluded the top 10 ships, "excl. top 20" = did that and then did it again, which IK may not precisely be the top 20 ships but hey. the most common ships left were Prongsfoot, Linny, and Tomione, at ~1k works each out of 78.5k.
this above is the master graph, zoomed in versions below because the scale of that graph is impossible to actually read
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
'smooth line chart' went a little wonky on that last graph but
Tumblr media
seems like the het ships DO tend to have long fics. feels like sevmione has a ton of both long (>20k) fic and midlength fic, and dramione has a lot of midlength (5-10k) fic, and jily more ~1-5k fic.
snarry has a lot of unusually short fics (<500, <1k words) that drag down the bottom-most part of the chart, but there's proportionally a lot of >20k longfic too. wolfstar surprisingly has much less >50k work than the other two mslash ships! in fact wolfstar & snarry have some real interesting contrasts going on there.
HP femslash is noticeably shorter than other types of works, ~30% shorter than mslash at every percentile and almost half the length of het works. the catch-up to mslash at the 99th percentile (or, conversely, drop-off of mslash?) is intriguing though!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
brief observation re. third graph: interesting -- in the mid range at least, wolfstar looks/behave a lot more like a 'rarepair' (anything excluding the top 10 ships) than drarry, snarry, or even "M/M -F/F -F/M".

Hello Favorite Author,
I hope this ask finds you well.
Will you ever grace us with the story of how Demon Dream took an innocent and virginal Priest and turned him into a cock hungry whore that likes to get bred on an altar?
It's no problem if you would prefer to keep that piece of fine literature to yourself but I respectfully implore upon your most generous grace.
Warmest Regards,
Some Rando That Keeps Refreshing Your Tumblr Every 5 Minutes
Aww 🖤 This ask is so sweet 🥺 I'm actually not feeling very well rn, but your words cheered me up! 😊
I don't know if I will ever like, write an entire 50k of that actual story (because I think that's what we're looking at here 😂) but I can certainly tell you some stuff that I want to write, from the time we see Dream and Hob get married in Kyrie Eleison, to when we see them again in Offertory.
(I say this now but no one knows what Dream is planning for me when NaNoWriMo comes around 👀)
CW: mildly spicy, plus a sprinkle of blasphemy 👀
Hob arrives with Dream in Hell, right at the gates of Dream's territory. Jessamy and Matthew are excitedly welcoming Dream back, but then--
--Oh? Who is this? A new friend? A new parent?! 🐶🐶 They're very excited, especially Matthew, but Hob is like, literally afraid of everything because God have mercy on him, he's in actual Hell now. 😭🙏 He is overwhelmed af. He is highkey praying the rosary in his mind and does like 20 Hail Mary's instead of just 10 per mystery. He clings to Dream who happily bridal carries him over all the thresholds until they get to the master bedroom.
And after the sweetness of their first night, I want to have some slow burn of Hob like, actually falling in love with Dream. (side note: Dream has been pointy horns over clawed feet in love with Hob since before they got married 😂) Like, yeah, he's totally hot, but there's so much more to him?? And he's actually nicer than some religious people Hob knows on Earth?? And he makes his heart flutter when he's near???
The situation escalates to where Hob is the one coming to Dream for sex (because Dream will never force him. No, no, no. Dream is willing to wait and have Hob be comfortable first 🥰).
They have schmoopy staring-into-each-other's eyes sex, with Dream always telling Hob how he's so beautiful and divine, and Hob just often looking away with tears in his eyes because he's never felt this good before. Like yeah, Dream makes him cum and that feels so good, but his heart also feels so full?
Menwhile Dream is worrying that Hob wants to go back. (And he will worry endlessly. He never tells Hob because man's got enough on his plate being in Hell and married to one of its lords after being a priest on Earth. And not just a priest, but a good Catholic one. It's the rarest of the rare pokemons. So Dream understands. It's a huge adjustment.)
Something something until Hob becomes comfortable enough to seek Dream out outside their bedroom in order to have something in his hole because nothing else would do.
Not his fingers, not his plugs, not the dildo Dream left him that is shaped exactly like Dream's cock... Nothing would do!
And at first maybe he's teary eyed and feeling so ashamed, asking for what he wants, what he's been needing since Dream left him like an hour ago to attend to his duties, but Dream is always so very patient with him. 🖤 He always gives Hob his cock, no questions asked, and kisses him sweetly while he works to take Dream's entire length inside himself. 🥰
Hob loves sinking onto Dream's cock just so satisfied and full, rubbing his lower stomach where Dream's outline is showing, cuddling up to him and not clocking anything else in the room. Like, literally, Dream's other siblings could be in the room and Hob wouldn't notice them until he has taken Dream to the hilt because he's such a horny little mess.
There will be large sections of the (hypothetical? 👀) 50k devoted to me showing how Hob spends his first few days or weeks in Hell being highkey afraid, him slowly getting used to life in the castle, and of course, the entire honeymoon month(s) that's just Dream taking very good care of him 24/7 and teaching him all the ways he could be pleasured. 😏
Hob definitely learns a lot of things about himself. 💯 He arrives in Hell so naive, not even knowing what a plug is for, or that he can orgasm when his prostate is massaged. But once his and Dream's honeymoon month is over (and okay, technically, their honeymoon month will last maybe like...idk, 90 days instead of 30), Hob is just. An entire different person, almost.
He still has his little religious habits that he's trying to stop doing (like saying grace before he eats or singing Christmas songs), but he's very willing to unlearn all the stuff he learned as a priest, and learn the truth straight from Dream's mouth.
(Examples: God can be whatever gender they want to be, that entire thing with Mary and Gabriel, how the phrase 'turn the other cheek' doesn't mean accept abuse, etc.)*
And then I want to end the (hypothetical?? 👀) 50k just before December 24 in the story, when Hob is happy as a clam, living his life with his loving husband and their two hellhounds, with all of Dream's subjects now believing in miracles, because Hob has brought life and laughter and happiness to Dream's territory that it almost feels like stepping in pleasantly warm summer sunshine again.
(And then of course Dream worries like an idiot because he mistakes Hob's happy humming to him wanting to go back to his old life. 👀 But thankfully that gets resolved in Offertory, so yay? 😊)
--
Notes:
'the entire thing with Mary and Gabriel' is based from a short story I read a long time ago on an actual published (fiction) book. 👀 It was dark, but I liked it anyway 👀
turning the other cheek - When Jesus is still alive and the Romans are still in power, this means that the person turning their cheek demands equality from the person who slapped them. It's an entire socio-economic thing. 🤷‍♀️ So when someone tells you otherwise, expecting you to simply accept more abuse because God/Jesus/the Bible says so and martyrdom is what gets you to heaven, it's not true at all. If there is a God, and if they are good, then they would want you to be happy and to be treated well. 🖤

Justified fanwork offerings for FTH!
Whoo! (as Boyd would say!) Justified has NINE! (9!) fanworks in the 2024 @fandomtrumpshate auction!
For the eighth year in a row, the volunteer organizators at Fandom Trumps Hate have put together a charity auction centered around fandom. It works basically like this:
Step 1: Creators offer to donate their time and labor in specific ways
Step 2: Donors bid on their favorite options
Step 3: The winning bidders donate the winning amount to the chosen charity (the list is available in the item description)
Step 4: The donation receipt goes to the lovely organizers
Step 5: In gratitude for the donation, creators gift donors a fanwork!
Step 6: Everyone wins! And nobody makes any money.
"This seems suspicious," you say. Don't take my word for it. Read more about it here!
What does this have to do with Justified? The creators below are offering their time and labor to the fandom!
nb: I put this together while waiting in line at the DMV, so always check the actual listings for accurate information!
Tumblr media
grydo2life is offering to write a fic of less than 5k words, up to an M rating. Do you love Tim? They do too! They primarily write Givenson, but will also write marshal gen fic! Bid on grydo2life for fluff, hurt/comfort, and angst with a happy ending.
schweinsty is offering to write a fic of 5 - 10k words, up to a T rating. Hurt/Comfort is schweinsty’s main area, with a focus on Raylan Givens/Tim Gutterson.
Tumblr media
AnneMcSommers is offering to write three fics!
The first is a fic of 20 - 50k words, up to an E rating, of a (much) longer version of any of their Justified stories!
The second offer is to write a fic of 5 -10k words, up to an E rating, with a focus on Raylan/Tim, Raylan/Boyd, Raylan/Boyd/Ava (OT3), and some AUs! In that second offer, poly ships and trans or nonbinary interpretations of canon characters are open!
The third offer is for a fic of less than 5k words, up to an E rating, with a focus on a post apocalypse Harlan AU, preferably OT3 Boyd/Ava/Raylan.
roaroftheninth is offering to write a fic of 5 -10k words, up to an E rating. You into a rarepair? They love them, including M/M, F/F, M/F, and poly ships, or friendship fic, with a focus on canon or canon-adjacent AUs with an interest in F/F ships, poly ships, and genderswap / genderbending.
WillowMcKinley is offering two options! WillowMcKinley has specific themes, tropes, and kinks in mind for this, so check that listing!
The first is a fic of less than 5k words, up to an E rating, with a focus on Boyd/Raylan or Raylan & Loretta (platonic).
The second is a podfic of less than 5k words, up to an E rating, with a focus on Boyd/Raylan or Raylan & Loretta (platonic).
I, @pawpawholler, also have an offer at Grace_Hill, AKA E_Greer. I will write you a fic of 5-10K, up to an E rating, with a pro-Appalachian focus on Raylan/Boyd or Raylan/Boyd/Ava. (I have a novel-length accidental baby acquisition plotted, if you’re interested and willing to bump up that donation accordingly.)
Bidding for the auction runs March 5th-9th!
Read about these offerings in more detail now at the links above. You can also follow @fandomtrumpshate if you want reminders!

Work Description: This is my first year doing MTH, so I'm very open on pricing and details! I don't have much specific in mind, so let's dream up something great together. In general, the higher your bid, the longer your fic. Max limit approx 50k, but I am notoriously bad at estimating word length once I get into a story. As for scheduling, I would like to try and get things wrapped up within a year, and the shorter the story, the easier that will be. I usually write primarily in the MCU with some comics influences. Open to platonic/nonsexual/etc pairings of any of the above offerings. Not really into domestic/fluffy AUs or most modern ones, unless it involves trauma, goat farming, or gardening. Would love to do some kinky ShrinkyClinks, or trans characters. Open to discussion about monster AUs. No matter what I'm writing, some humor always manages to sneak in, even if it's dark. You may notice that a lot of my work deals with non-con and HTP. I am totally interested in writing things that are NOT that, if that's not your cup of tea! That's just where I happened to get started with some of my writing. But, y'know, kink is always fun, and I'll gladly provide for your crackiest, darkest HTP desires if you like :3

Auction ID: 2003
Will create works for the following relationships: Bucky Barnes-centric - Any Universe Bucky Barnes/Any - Any Universe Steve Rogers-centric - Any Universe Brock Rumlow-centric - Any Universe Natasha Romanov-centric - Any Universe Tony Stark-centric - Any Universe Clint Barton-centric - Any Universe
Work Description: I am just starting out in my podfic practice, but I'd love to put your story to audio! You can see a few examples of my previous pods on my AO3 page. The most recent one is Haunted House by Rainbow_WinterBones, and that will give you the best idea of my current mic quality and setup (previous pods were done with an older mic.) The higher starting bid reflects the time needed for both recording and editing. The longest pod I've done so far is 20 min, about 4k words, but I'm willing to go for longer stories. The higher the bid, the longer the pod! They may take a while for me to start and complete, as I often have to wait until I am home alone for the best recording environment, but I will do my best to get them done by the 2024 deadline, probably earlier. I'm open to many pairings and any rating for podfic recording, but do be aware that I am an American who is not super practiced at doing accents in my voice work. I'll do my best, but especially for Wakandan characters, I'm hesitant to take on more than I'm capable of doing justice for. I'm also open to doing Hydra-focused podfics for any universe. Do feel free to DM me and ask more specific questions!

hello I started a new wip and am once again in writing hell
This question is mostly asking what is your writing comfort zone, like how many words do you expect to write when you start a project. I realize this is a difficult question to answer because most writers write fics of many different lengths depending on the complexity of the premise and how succinct you are at getting your point across. If you have a large range of story lengths you'll have to pick just one, sorry.

Here's a change from last year on my two Beta-Reading Auctions:
Please DO NOT bid if you intend on using this for the piece you are writing for FTH. This Beta Read should only be for fics that do not have a deadline. If you need a beta reader for your FTH fic, please use the Regiment of Fan Laborers. I do not guarantee any beta-read before the FTH end of year Deadline.
Please note that any fic given to me after October 1, 2023 for beta-reading may not be complete by the December 31, 2023 deadline.
I am super excited to be doing FTH again. Last year was a blast, and I had a lot of fun. So I'm excited to do this again. Bidding opens later today, so go see what's on offer!
And as always, a huge shout out to the @fandomtrumpshate team for putting this all together. They're the best!!

hello there! 💜💚 i hope you're well and have enough time for tea, baths and all the other lovely self-care stuff 💚💜
i would like to ask you a question... i feel a bit dumb asking this but... what are the different types of fanfics? like- i know what fluff, angst and smut is. and i know what's an AU, and more or less the concept of omegaverse (i think...)
but when is a ficlet a ficlet? or a oneshot a oneshot? what is a 221b? a drabble? idk if there are more but i guess i just don't really understand the differences between the lengths of them? does this make sense..?
i've been confused about this for a while and can't quite figure it out. if you'd help out i'd very much appreciate it!
ps: please don't be too judgy about me not knowing this *hides*
Hey Nonny!
AWW thanks!! I love tea, baths and lots of self-care, just very bad at giving any of it to myself, haha!
And NONNY, please know that there are NO judgements here at all! PLEASE don't feel bad!! Fandom isn't something you magically know overnight! <3 And it's always okay to ask! <3
Before I answer your question, I highly recommend you peruse the Fanlore Wiki; it's a good place for new people to learn about fandom terms and history, so check it out if you need further clarification, as my answers are based on my understanding of each of the things you're asking about from being in TOO many fandoms for TOO many years, LOL.
I'm not going to go into everything, since fandom is SO huge and there's so much about it that I can't cover it all, hence the link to Fanlore, so here are immediate answers to some of your questions:
Drabble: A fic that's exactly 100 words
A 221b Ficlet: A fanfiction exclusive to the multiple variants of Holmesian fandoms that's exactly 221 words long, and the VERY last word of the fic starts with "b".
Ficlet: A short story, usually under 1,000 words but can be a little more.
Oneshot / vignette: A short, single chapter "scene" fic, essentially a story covering a missing scene or an out-of-context situation. In a similar vein, there's Two-Shots, which is basically a oneshot but from two different perspectives (ie. First chapter is situation from character A's POV, and Chapter 2 is from Character B's situation).
Podfic: An audiobook of a fanfiction. If you prefer to listen to stories, rather than read them, there are a tonne of amazing podficcers recording stories in multiple fandoms.
Five and One (and variations of): A story that depicts "Five times that Character [verb] [insert situation here] and one time [insert contradicting situation here]". It's basically 6 one-shots in a single story that has the last "one time" situation be a feel-good FINALLY ending. Some authors split them up into single chapters per situation, and others write the whole story as a single chapter.
Meta / Metafic: An essay or story based on analysing a piece of media. The Fic version expands upon a theory within a given fandom so that the theory fits into the narrative of the show.
WIP: Acronym for "Work In Progress", which is an unfinished published story. Some authors "write as they post" while others finish multiple chapters prior to posting them, but only post chapters one at a time on a scheduled basis, which keeps people coming back to the story until the end. The latter USUALLY guarantees a full-story inevitably being posted, so it is the more preferred type of WIP.
Short Story: a story under about 10,000 words
Novella: a story between 20 and 50K words
Novel: Anything over 50K words. I think past a certain number (100K?) it becomes an Epic, but I'm not 100 on it. Google says it's a story that spans multiple "books" and time periods, so I'm not sure.
Hope that helps a little bit, Nonny, and PLEASE don't hesitate to ask if you come across some other terms you would like to know from a fandom-old's perspective! We love helping y'all out! <3 NEVER feel dumb, please. There's no shame in asking for help. And if someone made you feel dumb because of it, FUCK 'EM.

I’m curious, how do you decide when to extend works, like with snow globe just recently for example?
i guess it depends on the fic!
Tumblr media
at the center started as a collection of simple drabbles and ficlets, and then evolved into lengthier chapters with the occasional drabble interspersed throughout longer chapters, so there is a diverse range of chapter lengths across the 220+ chapters (some are <100 words, others are ~20,000 words)... so choices for when a chapter "should" end usually depends on whatever "feels right" for maintaining tension in the flow of the story (i.e., "which line would be the most devious cliffhanger?" 😂)
Tumblr media
meanwhile, snow globe was only ever meant to be a two-shot of 20-30k words... but each chapter is now more or less 10-15k words?? 😂 and as i was writing part iii this past week, i started to reach 10k... and i realized, "oh dear, i think this story deserves another chapter after all."
in the case of snow globe, the final scene has been written since august, along with a few critical plot scenes (two of which now appear in part iii), but as i get nearer and nearer to those scenes, i realize that "more" is needed to lead up to it, or to come down from it, or prepare/post-process, etc., and the next thing you know, 8k more words have been added 😂😅
in both cases, however, i had the final scenes already in mind before i started actually writing each fic! i reblogged a post like this a few days ago, but basically, my writing process for most fics is something along the lines of "having one scene in your head and then realizing that you need to write 20k, 50k, 100k of plot to get to that one scene" 😂🫠
similarly, sometimes when i get to the scenes, i look back at the unpublished stuff that comes before it, and i'm like "i don't need all this junk!!" and then i remove thousands and thousands of words and throw them all in a scrap file!
(sometimes i end up using the scrapped scenes later on, in a way that ultimately makes more sense for the story at that eventual stage, and sometimes those scraps never see the light of day! 😂)
thank you for the ask!! 🙏💖✨

So I’m making a game rn and my current plan is to price it at $10. Here’s the details of the game:
VN / adventure game hybrid, atmospheric horror elements but not really scary. made in RPGMaker MV cuz coding is hard
Probably about 3 hours for a first playthrough but depends on how quickly you read. A lot of it is reading a script that is dialogue between characters which, for reference, is currently close to 30k words and it’ll probably be about 50k??? By the time it’s done. if you play through every ending it might be idk 6 7 hours but i honestly have no idea
4 different endings but they only actively branch off very close to the end of the game
Variety of different dialogue choices you can make so each play through can be a bit different but the differences in script are not particularly branching — are self-contained within a single interaction, although they cumulate to affect the ending
All original music, art assets, script by ME and they’re all really cool and good and different. Trust me
My point of reference for pricing is To The Moon, which it’s somewhat similar to in length and gameplay (Mine has a decent bit more content wise in most aspects though) and it’s also $10
First solo gamedev project and first long one/for money but second game I’ve released (first being Feed 15 fish w/ Shelly. shouts out)
Target audience is probably people 20-35 who are more of a Media Analysis Crowd or an Art Games Crowd than a fandom crowd, if anything I’d like to actively dissuade fandom treatment. Probably also going to be strongly recommended for 18+ only although it isn’t NSFW, it’s just about being an adult and everything that comes w that
It will have a free demo that’s released a good while before the actual game so people can get a decent read on it from that
Do u think $10 sounds reasonable, too much/not enough? I think it sounds good but my only concern is the fact that it’s the first big thing I’m going to have released for money & I don’t have a big name for myself, so I don’t have a ton of merit or anything. and it’s also an RPGmaker game. Wel let me know what you think
