in a similar vein to my last post i very much think demo’d be so good with kids. i don’t know if he’d be a good dad necessarily with all that emotional baggage and undoubtedly enough generational trauma to permanently ruin a toddler within seconds but he’d be a great uncle, godfather, weird neighbor, etc.
consider with me here. uncle tavish with the eyepatch and the peg-leg. he looks scary but he tells great stories about wizards and wars and explosions and he leaves in all the gory bits. he’ll show you how to make a pretty good firework out of the cleaning stuff your mum’s got lying around the house as long as you won’t tell on him. he’ll help you pull pranks on your adult relatives and he’ll take the blame for them. he’ll let you sip on his beer and scrumpy if you swear up and down you’re grown-up enough and when you hiss and stick your tongue out at the alcohol he’ll tell you that means you’re probably more mature than him. he doesn’t seem that rich but he’ll buy you a dirtbike or a pony or a whole set of expensive action figures for your birthday and he won’t even act like it’s a big deal. there’s something so simply enjoyable to him about kids (kids that aren’t his), so kicking with wonder and fierce excitement about the world, and he does whatever he can to give them what he never got—the push to run around and discover and do what they want, and to spit and curse and play-swordfight in the backyard and everything else all the adults in his life never really let him do. really, under it all, at the end of the day he’s got the big dumb heart of an absolute bloody sap and he knows it, and it’s almost relieving to know he’s still got it after all these years. you know? it works out

Kinda along the lines of "if MC's family put a hit out on them", suppose an heir!MC went power-hungry (Or paranoid) and put a hit out on people, what would be the reactions of everyone (ROs, Yvette, Luka, Gramps) if they were the one that MC put the bounty on.
Ash
Would be utterly devastated. They'd probably fight off all of the hitmen's attempts and burn their way back to MC. Once they're finally face-to-face with MC, they'd just ask them the reason behind all of this and ask them to kill them themself. If there's anyone they'd rather die to, it would be by MC's hands and in MC's arms.
Rin
Would be seething in cold fury. There'll probably some hints of sadness and sorrow because they really thought they can trust MC, but that is eclipsed by the rage of the betrayal. Probably never going to be able to fully trust anyone else outside of their family for the rest of their life.
They'd pay MC the same courtesy, putting even higher bounty on MC's head. It'd be an all out war between the Morozovs and the Aikawas, no matter how good of a friendship Luka has with Takashi. It would be such a Pyrrhic victory for whichever family left standing that the result might as well be mutually assured destruction.
Santana
Would be devastated and in despair. Probably going to just give up and wait for their fate. After all, what else can they do? They're not good in combat, their power can't help them, they don't have any connections or resources that can get them out of the city or to safety.
Their only wish is to be able to meet MC again for one last time and ask them why are they doing this? Santana is a nobody compared to MC and their family, considering them a threat is laughable. Should've just told them if MC is now bored of them instead of this.
Skylar
Would be in disbelief and in denial. There's no way MC would do this to them, right? It must've been villains they have fought who got away and now hold grudge against them.
With their dual powers, it would be easier for them to fight off the hitmen. But also, they'd probably fly up directly to whatever ivory tower MC resides in, phase through and try to clarify it with MC.
But once MC makes it clear that it is indeed them, Skylar's just brokenhearted, disappointed, upset, and a lot of other mix of emotions. They swear they would be the one who take MC down, no matter how many years it would take, before taking off and leaving.
Luka
Honestly, for the first few weeks, he probably wouldn't know what to do and is probably shutting down emotionally from the overwhelming stress and grief. He doesn't understand why MC would betray him like this; he has sacrificed his youth to raise and take care of MC and he thought he was doing a good job. He also doesn't want to hurt MC because he cares for them and he promised his brother.
Thankfully for him, he's got a hitman with powerful ability as his boyfriend. Jackal, upon finding out about all of this, would be livid and curse out MC for being an ungrateful brat. He's basically the only thing anchoring Luka and he tries his best to protect him and to keep him from spiraling even further.
But in his heart, he swears, once everything starts to die down and Luka is somewhere safe, he will hunt down MC, even if Luka will end up hating him. Luka might've made a promise not to harm MC and to always keep them safe to Viktor, but Jackal has never made such promise to anyone so far.
So, yeah, the probability of MC getting rid of Luka through bounty is pretty slim considering he has Jackal, who has spent most of his life surviving the same ordeal. And not only Jackal's haemokinesis is really strong, but Luka's own teleportation ability makes him a very hard man to catch.
Grandpa
Deep sorrow... and emptiness. He knows what he has to do, for the sake of his only remaining son and for himself... It's probably the hardest decision he has--and probably will--ever make in his entire life, but in the end, he knows it's necessary.
Grandpa can be stone cold--even more than he already is--when he purposefully shut down his emotions and repress his feelings, and that will be what he does for MC. Even though MC might be the heir and probably de facto head of the family in Elysium City, the old man still has a lot of sway, respect, and fear among the members of the family and some of the city's elites and officials. Especially the branch in New York, it is still under his control.
He would declare MC a traitor and start to try turn MC's own people against them--probably not all, probably some decide to stay loyal to MC, probably some just see more opportunities to rise through the ranks under MC's leadership... But the number of those who do side with Grandpa would not be small and there will probably be some kind of internal civil war within the family.
He would also put a bounty for MC's head, higher than the bounty MC put on him and he would also immediately cut off any of the family's companies that are not directly under MC's name, effectively cutting off MC's supplies of money and resources as well.
In a battle of attrition, Grandpa would probably win, plus he’ll constantly surround himself with the strongest and most loyal of his men, and with his own power allowing people to do as he commands, it is going to be really hard to kill him.
Yvette
Would be scared for her life and depending on whether you reconcile with her or not, it can be either a sense of acceptance or a sense of regret. Maybe she’s just reaping what she sowed; after all, it is already some sort of miracle that she can even live this long without any problem despite having pissed off the Morozovs.
And now, after years of being under Viktor’s protection,of course, it’s going to be their chid who’s finally had enough. She knows she has no chance of fighting or even simply confronting MC.
Her strength has never lied in combat and her powers have always been used more as support, and now, as she’s getting older, she has started to pass her prime. But what she can do is use her powers to get away and escape encounters.
Maybe she’ll leave the city if she can, but she honestly doesn’t know what to do after—or how long can she keep evading these hitmen.

Pick A Card: Past Life Edition
Hello!! I came back with another pick a card reading involving, this time, past life themes. This reading will be a general one in which I’ll describe the general life, lessons (learned and unlearned) and obstacles they had to face so take what resonates and, please, enjoy.
Now, take a few breaths to calm down, close your eyes if you need it, and then choose the option that captures your attention.
Tumblr media
Pile 1.
(Native American, 8 of Diamonds or The Key in Lenormand, Carrot, Virgo, September, Knight of Pentacles in reverse, 4 of Cups, 4 of Pentacles, 10 of Swords, 2 of Cups).
Welcome pile 1 to your reading!! In your past life, you were a native American man who were born under in the month of September or under Virgo season. Now, being a native American doesn’t mean that you had to be necessarily from the United States territory, you could have even lived in Tierra del Fuego or in the Caribbean, but it still can be a possibility. I see with these cards that you lived surrounded by mountains or valleys, far away from the sea in general, and lived from what the earth naturally offered.
Now, I see different scenarios here so take what resonates. The first one is that your secure life at the tribe was boring for you, it seemed as if there was nothing exciting or new inside the world of the tribe. You wanted to see new things, to seek some action, to explore things beyond what your current life offered, to gain success. It is very clear that you had a lot of confidence in that lifetime but, one day, you took the chance by either escaping or going to war, passing away at a young age due to either an accident you had while going away or by the war. You left behind a lover or some connections who truly loved you. Either way, for some, in that lifetime you learned how to take a chance despite the possible dangers out there that could hurt you or even kill you. For others, you learned how many of those naïve ambitions for greatness and seeking things outside can destroy us in the end or block us from seeing what we already have. This is the lesson you didn’t achieve in that past life. Despite having a loving family or a loving partner who loved you deeply, you didn’t think about them when you left. You thought only on what you didn’t have or what you still had to achieve that there was no acknowledge of how much they meant for you until you lost them because of your death.
The other scenario I see is basically the same as the last one but with the difference that, instead of being born in a tribe, you were an explorer who travelled to America in died trying to achieve success there. The 1500s or 1600s are strong numbers for this pile.
Another scenario I see is that, just like the first option, you were a native American that was a slave and lived to served a richer family in which you worked in the farm. I don’t know why I thought of Brazil and those plantations of sugar or tabaco but, if you feel a strong connection to that place, this could be the reason. You were unhappy with the conditions you lived in and tried, eventually, to escape from the place that kept you captive, no matter if you left behind friends or family, but you were discovered and killed while trying to do so. The lessons for this group are the same. You learned to follow your call, your ambition, and to break those chains but, in the process, you didn’t think fully on the people left that depended on you to survive, especially if you were a married man with a family.
This is all I have for you pile 1, I hope it resonated.
Pile 2
(Celtic, Queen of Spades or The Bouquet in Lenormand, Hand, July, Sun, Knight of Swords, 4 of Swords, The Hermit, Queen of Cups, 5 of Swords)
Welcome to your reading pile 2!! Let’s dive into your past life reading.
Ok, this pile speaks to me as a highly feminine and spiritual one that may have had many past lives on earth, other dimensions, or it’s just an old soul in general. Why? Because the past life that came to me comes from very ancient times. It comes from the Celtic times so, if you feel connected to ancient cultures such as this one, then this is a confirmation that your soul lived through those times and in those cultures.
In that past life, you were a woman born in July or under the sign of Cancer who lived a peaceful life surrounded by nature and your loved ones. You were an emphatic person, a caring person, always with the energy and compassion to offer a helping hand to those who needed you. A healer, shaman, medium, these are one of the few words that are coming strongly for this pile. Maybe you learned, or your family in that life helped you, to use natural herbs or flowers to heal other people, to connect with ancestor so you could share messages from them to your close ones.
Anyway, from very early on, you displayed an astonishing interest in nature and the things that lived under the same sun as you. You were interested in getting to know de hidden side of things, to discover the potential use of the things that surrounded you, and to connect with energies beyond the physical real, that’s why, with time, you were considered one of the wisest members of your family. People kept coming to you for advice and, since you had a very big heart, you never said no to anyone. Maye in this lifetime people still come to you for advice even if you are young or others consider you inexperienced. Well, perhaps your actual body doesn’t seem to have enough experience but your soul have, so the wisdom you showed came from many lifetimes of experience.
Connecting with spirits, plants, and animals could have been some abilities you developed in that past life along with the knowledge of how to use some plants as a medicine so, if one of those resonates with you, then take it as a confirmation.
In that past life, you learned how to connect with your feminine side, with the intuitive, creative, and loving side of creation. Of mother Earth. Wow!! Seriously, this pile is a very powerful one with the level of evolution that it can be seen. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you incarnated in this time on Earth to increase her vibration and help those souls who are struggling so they can evolve as well. Now, the only unresolved lessons I can see here is that some of you feel conflicted each time you are not able to provide help for someone, due to circumstances or lack of knowledge, and you must learn that it is OK to say NO. If you can’t help somebody due to whatever reason, then don’t feel bad about it. We are humans. It is impossible to help all the people in the world. Besides, there is some lessons that people need to learn on his own.
That is all I have for you, pile 2. I hope it resonated and see you soon in another pick a card.
Pile 3
(Arts, Queen of Diamonds or Crossroads in Lenormand, Rolling Pin, November, January, 2 of Wands, The High Priestess, Page of Wands, The Hanged Man, 3 of Wands)
Welcome, pile 3, to your reading!!
In a past life, you were someone who was really interested in the arts, being that either painting, dancing or singing. Either that or you had a talent of some sort that you wanted to explore or share in relation to the arts. Sex here doesn’t look clear in this spread as it happened with the other piles, but that doesn’t matter in this case. The most important thing here is the rest of the story.
Anyway, you could have been a very pragmatic, realistic or private person with the January and November cards (those are months in which Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius lies on) but also a very unique and fiery personality who wanted to pursue his/her interest. You wanted to build something from your passion, to be happy and successful by doing what you liked, but it seems like you had to face many crossroads in your life to make a jump like that. And part of that crossroads may had come from the inner fears that you carried inside. This is especially true if you were a Capricorn because these individuals, when they are not developed properly, tend to be extremely realistic, pessimistic, can have a perfectionist tendency, so, at the end of the day, they tend to sabotage themselves more rather than help.
Now, having a realistic approach and planning your steps is a good quality to have too, especially if those areas have little source of income in comparison to other careers, and I won’t ignore the fact that life sometimes presents some obstacles of different categories that will turn our attention somewhere, but waiting too long for the perfect opportunity or scenario will soon turn into an excuse that hides the real motive of these delays: fears. Fears of not being good enough. Fears of failing. These fears kept you away of pursuing your dream so, during the rest of your life, you lived trying to imagine what your life would be like if only you had followed your passion. What could have been like. Amazing or a nightmare. A success or a failure. Every option came by your eyes each time the imagination of the what if’s returned.
In that life, you learned how to look things through different perspectives. You learned to be cautious, to make plans and don’t rush into things, to keep a suspicious approach before deciding anything and to think things through when an offered appeared in your life. That’s ok. But if you let those guarded feelings prevent you to take steps on any direction then it will backfire and increase those fears so, the general lessons of pile 3 requires, while making plans to make your ambitions a reality, to take steps forward. You must work along with the Universe in order to make your manifestations a reality. For example, if you want to become an author, first you must write a story. Then, send it to an editorial or sharing some samples with others so the book can be read by others. Writing a story and then doing nothing as if you are expecting to be published next day will not work. I’m sorry if this sounded kind of harsh but it is just an example to make clear where I’m going when I talk about taking steps.
That’s all I have for you pile 3. I hope it resonated and see you soon in another pick a card pile.

I have decidedly mixed feelings about Season 4 as a whole but The Freshman is a very very good episode.
It's also, however you choose to work it out, in the top three episodes of the whole series in terms of how much dialogue Buffy Summers herself gets [see note A below]. Which makes sense thematically -- if Season 4 is about anything (note that I said if) then surely it is about Buffy attempting to answer the question "who are you?" posed by the title of one of its stand-out episodes. Who is Buffy (and what is this show about?) now that high school is over? That's a question this episode will begin to explore.
Part of the reason I like this episode so much is that it's focused on the character of Buffy herself in a way none of the other season openers get to be. Half of the focus of S3's Anne is on a town where Buffy isn't anymore and the other half is on a girl who doesn't want to be Buffy anymore; S5's Buffy vs Dracula is .... it's about ... no, I can't lie, it's just shit, sorry (and Real Me, morally that season's true opener, is certainly about Buffy in a sense but it's about her as seen through the prism of Dawn Summers); Buffy spends most of S6's Bargaining dead and as such doesn't talk that much; while S7's Lessons is focused on setting up the Dawn-focused, back-to-high-school season that, in just a few episodes's time, the writers will give up on entirely (in fact we never see Dawn's new friends Kit and Carlos on screen again).
S1's Welcome to the Hellmouth comes close to the underlying numbers of The Freshman (in keeping with the rest of Season 1, Buffy definitely has a lot of speaking time in this one), but that episode is an attempt to introduce the whole world of the show as much as it is the character of Buffy herself. By design, the Buffy we meet already knows the basics about vampires and Slaying and destinies: the exposition Giles offers is for the audience's benefit rather than hers. Even having moved to a new town, Buffy is instantly more comfortable in the halls of Sunnydale High than she is on campus at the beginning of this episode.
Only S2's When She Was Bad comes as close to being purely about Buffy as this episode does, but it doesn't score very highly among the season openers in terms of raw speaking time numbers [see note B].
That's because while When She Was Bad is about Buffy and who she is after (not exactly) surviving the events of Prophecy Girl, it's at least partly about who she is as seen from the perspective of her friends and family. So we open with a scene of Willow and Xander waiting for Buffy to get back, we have a rare scene of Buffy's parents alone together discussing their daughter, we see that (in their own different ways) Giles and Cordelia and Angel are all worried about her although she resists their various attempts to connect with her. In her absence, the gang briefly debate whether she might be posessed -- that this might not even be the real Buffy at all. There's no such confusion about the Buffy we see on screen in this episode. Giles is reluctant to help her, insisting that he's not her Watcher anymore; Cordelia has left town and goes unmentioned; somebody who watches Angel will know that Angel tries calling but Buffy doesn't find this out. Unlike When She Was Bad, The Freshman is completely about Buffy's understanding of herself. With a couple of brief exceptions near the end, the perspective and camera remains tightly focused on her: we see what she sees, and only that.
The Buffy Summers of When She Was Bad was trying to cut herself off from the world and is saved by her friends; the Buffy Summers of The Freshman is trying to make her own way in the world without a familiar safety net and -- though she is reassured to eventually realize her friends are still around and still want to help her -- she also learns she can succeed even without them. (Arguably, this is a lesson she learns a little too well.)
Also Sunday was great and should have been in more episodes (and so should Cathy and Olivia, frankly, though they do at least appear again a little).
--
[A] Per Julian Freedland's timestamp data, Buffy's top three episodes in terms of absolute speaking time are 1) S1E05: "Never Kill A Boy On The First Date"; 2) S3E18: "Earshot"; 3) S4E01: "The Freshman" . Adjusting for the fact some episodes are just more dialogue-heavy than others, Buffy's top three episodes as a percentage of total speaking time are 1) S4E02: Living Conditions; 2) S4E01: The Freshman; 3) S3E03: Faith, Hope & Trick.
[B] Technically When She Was Bad is only the fifth highest ranked of the seven season openers by Buffy speaking time, with Buffy having 23.5% of all dialogue, but there's very little difference between third and sixth here: 24.9% for Anne in third versus 23.4% for Buffy vs Dracula in sixth; compare 30.8% for Welcome to the Hellmouth and 35.6% for The Freshman and either nothing or almost nothing for Bargaining depending on whether you treat it as a two-parter or one double-length episode.

i keep brainworming over your recent zombie au piece [kicks feet in air] tell me more 🫶 (if you wanna)
OUGGH GHDJFG IM SO GLAD 🫶🫶🫶T___T i think the AU fits AFTG especially really well!! My fav zombie apocalypse media is the Telltale Walking dead games so ... lots of inspiration drawn from that (and ofc Last of us for that good ol "oh they have immunity against the virus" trope") (also train of busan/TWD show for outbreak origin inspo)
How the virus outbreak starts in this AU: honestly have not thought about the specific details but the gist of it is that a deadly mutagen accidentally gets developed in a biotech lab while conducting experiments on animals >someone gets bit > starts to show signs and turns into zombie > more people get bit > everybody has the virus now, turns into a global pandemic
some char background/
Andrew and Aaron would have already been living together before the outbreak, and Nicky only lives likes 10ish minutes away from them. When all hell breaks loose, Nicky's parents get killed by a zombie hoard and he immediately goes to Andrew and Aaron to join up for safety. Andrew realizes that remaining where they are is only going to get them killed, so they drive his car out of the state in hopes to find a safer place (smart!).
I don't think Drew's group encounter Kevin and Neil until a few years later, when the apocalyptic world has become the norm and its all about survival now (maybe around 3-4 years?). The monsters have joined forces with different groups and even joined a few settlements in the past, but they find that they work best alone, just the three of them. Fortunately they have enough connections to make supply trades if its ever needed; Nicky's the interlocutor and peacemaker.
Kevi ... he would've still grown up in the Nest and played Exy in this AU. When the outbreak occurs there, the Ravens are trapped with the infected and it's basically a brutal death for all of them. Kevin and Riko manage to escape (with Riko ruthlessly killing a few teammates-turned-zombies on his way out, no hesitation!) Kevin and Riko have a very close relationship during the first few years of the apocalypse, but its more of Riko putting a leash on his brother and demanding him to do certain tasks. Kevin is strong and has lots of stamina, so he's incredibly reliable in an abundance of duties. Riko is also not above betraying groups they "befriend", and does not hesitate to kill or sell someone out when he thinks its better for their survival. Near the 3rd year mark, tensions between the two brothers begin to rise as Kevin starts to express his discomfort towards Riko's actions. They start to fight more often, and Kevin starts to rebel a little more. In turn, Riko gets increasingly paranoid about their dwindling supply stock/the fact that Kevin might betray him, so he ends up making a trade with a group of nearby raiders: Kevin for 6 months of supplies. Kevin, obviously, is horrified when he realizes this betrayal and deception. On the second night with the raiders, he manages to fight 4 of them off and runs off into the night. He meets Drew's group 3 months later. (btw kevin running off means that riko is now after him, because those raiders were not happy about what happened)
Neil!! He's in his last year of HS (still plays Exy for their team) when Mary convinces him to run away with her from their abusive father. In this AU she also steals a shit load of money from him and they take a plane to Georgia. The zombie outbreak occurs whilst on their run, and they manage to survive together for the first year. They make their way to South Carolina, but Mary gets killed during a crossfire started by bandits and...Neil is left alone now.
(note: I changed somethings regarding Neil/Kevin's relationship. Scratch them having past family connections!) He desperately tries to join up with a few groups, but all of them result with him either being assaulted or robbed from. The one group he finally finds and begins to feel a kinship with, he ends up being betrayed. Guess who the group is!! It's Kevin and Riko! After a near death experience with that, he's jaded, wary, and untrusting towards anyone. He's learned that staying alone gives him the highest rate of survival— that it's not the zombies that are the most dangerous. Those are easy to kill. A few smashes to the head and they're dead. But people, they're capable of doing the most evil, heinous things. (cue : " “It’s not the world that’s cruel. It’s the people in it.") oh also. he finds out hes immune after getting bit in the hand. He freaks out, introspects for a few days, and comes to the conclusion that he's going to kill himself before he turns. But it never happens.
3 years later, he's a seasoned veteran when it comes to surviving on his own. However, from a stroke of bad luck, he ends up getting hit by crossbow arrow in the forest while scavenging. This is how Drew finds him.
uhhh there's a lot more ideas in my head but I'm gonna wrap it up here because this got wayyy too long hehe thank you if you read it all... honestly this ask was very helpful because it helped me work out this AU in detail a lot more >:D

Hello my friend!
I was rereading your story "Of Capture Weapons and Lightning Bolts".
And I was thinking that Harry and all his magical family would spell the hell of UA. To prevent any invasion or harm to the students and teachers!
Imagine Shigaraki trying to destroy the gate only to be thrown off.
After all they didn't survive Hogwarts battle ( if it happens in your story) and didn't learn something.
Also during USJ attack where would Harry be ? And what would he do if he is at UA and hear about the attack?
The thing about Heroics and Healing Harry post Hogwarts is that he is intensely traumatized (rightfully so tbh the battle of Hogwarts is A Lot when you think about it) and working through that in the only way he can. He is technically a third year hero student, a retired hero, and the ghost that haunts Shouta and Hizashi’s classrooms all at the same time.
That being said he is very very protective of the family he has left and that stretches to UA at large and 1-A specifically.
He works with Bill and Hermione to add wards to UA. He shadows the students during training exercises. He waits for Mirio, Tamaki, and Nejire to return from their work studies with shaking hands and wild eyes.
He is basically at UA because he can’t stand to not be there and to get a degree so he can do… something in the future. Hell he might even follow Shouta and Hizashi and become a teacher. Anything that isn’t hero work. That isn’t him being the Chosen One all over again.
(He keeps his provisional license, however… just in case.)
So when the attack comes Harry is there, sitting at Hizashi’s desk when Tenya’s panic alarm (connected to both Hizashi and Shouta just like Harry’s rings through to Tensei and Nemuri) goes off. He disappears before he can even think about it, arriving in the USJ just in time to see the sea of villains and his dad jumping into the fray.
And Harry doesn’t care for that shit at all.
1-A (with the exception of a few of them) was always a bit… wary of Harry (with his too sad too old eyes and the way he flinched when they spoke about becoming heroes) but none of them were prepared to see him in action, carving a path through the villains to mirror Eraserhead’s and facing off with the monster that took out their teacher without hesitation. There are whispers calling him a hero. There are whispers calling him a demon. No one can believe he wants to graduate to go immediately into retirement when he has skills like those.
No one but Tenya who sees him, with his hands wet with Shouta’s blood and shaking like he’s about to fly apart, staring at the ambulance that took his father away.
Harry wanted a quiet life after Hogwarts.
Instead he picks up his title of hero again and throws himself back into the fight to protect the people he loves.

Hi! I'm trying to read up on the York princesses' early lives and I can find frustratingly few details on the same. I was specifically curious about their various childhood betrothals that ultimately never came into fruition due to the death of their father, but I can barely find anything online beyond the bare basics (essentially: the names of the people they were betrothed to). I was wondering of any specific details of all their individual betrothals survived, and if they changed across the years of their father's reign?
And in Bridget of York's case - since she's more elusive to find than her sisters - was she destined for a church path since birth? I've seen some sites claim that her grandmother Cecily Neville named her with no actual evidence beyond her piety, but I always assumed it was her parents who was more likely to have done so? Both Elizabeth Woodville and Edward IV were connected to St. Bridget and Elizabeth was also very pious.
You know a lot about this era so I hope it's okay to ask, sorry if the question seems out of the blue!
Hello! Sorry for taking so long to reply, I had to sit down and look up some things because the story of the betrothal of Edward IV's daughters is quite murky. I will talk about the betrothals that were done during Edward IV's reign because after that it's another thing entirely.
Let's talk about Bridget first. Was she destined for a church path since birth? There's no way of actually knowing this, but it's entirely possible she was. On a practical level, as the king's fifth surviving daughter, a competitive dowry to be used in a foreign marriage alliance would be hard to achieve (more about Edward IV and dowries in a second). More concrete evidence though does come from her name. I haven't found many noblewomen named Bridget in late medieval England but the one I did find, Bridget Holland (daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl of Kent, Richard II's half-brother), indeed became a nun. Like Bridget of York, she seems to have been the youngest of 5-6 sisters.
Saint Bridget of Sweden was a very popular saint in England and she was especially revered by the English royal family (who since Henry V's time were patrons of a Bridgettine monastery at Sheen, Syon Abbey). Elizabeth of York and Margaret Beaufort would go on to commission the printing of a list of prayers popularly thought to have been written by St Bridget. For the Yorkists, however, St Bridget held particular importance because one of her prophecies had been used to justify Edward IV's right to rule. Cecily Neville in particular owned a copy of St Bridget's revelations which she later bequeathed to her granddaughter Anne de la Pole who not only also became a nun, but rose to the highest rank of prioress at Syon.
Cecily Neville was Bridget of York's godmother. Traditionally, godparents were the ones to name ('christen') the child at their baptism. Of course, most time the parents had their input too before the child was brought to the baptismal font. Elizabeth Woodville was also devoted to St Bridget. Interestingly, Cecily left her religious books to the two granddaughters who became nuns: Anne de la Pole, which I commented on above, and Bridget. Bridget received Cecily's Legenda Aurea (a collection of saints' lives), a book about St Katherine and another one about St Matilde.
To me, it seems entirely possible that Cecily Neville might have planned Bridget's career as a nun from the very beginning. It's quite likely that Edward IV and his wife Elizabeth vouched for the idea too, considering how important St Bridget's prophecy had been for Edward's legitimisation as king, they might have made a promise/vow to dedicate one of their children's lives to the Church as many catholic people still do today. I've seen the speculation that Bridget was sickly/had some kind of impairment from birth that would make her less desirable in the marriage market but I don't think we need that as a reason for her going into a convent.
Now going into the other princesses. We already know about Elizabeth of York, right? First, she was betrothed to Warwick's nephew and heir, George Neville, as a way to appease him in 1469. Then she was offered to Prince Edward of Lancaster but Margaret of Anjou went on to choose Anne Neville which was probably for the best, as Edward IV's suggestion, at a time when Edward V was about to be born, was probably just a ruse. Elizabeth's hand was also used as bait to bring back Henry Tudor to England in 1476. And again, it most certainly was a ruse as by that time she had just recently been betrothed to the Dauphin of France. She would be known as Madame la Dauphine until France called off the betrothal in late 1482.
Mary of York occupied 'the rather unfortunate position' as Ross describes it, of being her sister's replacement in the marriage alliance with France in case Elizabeth of York died before the wedding took place. It would not be until 1481, by then a time when many doubted the French marriage would even go through, that Mary was betrothed to King Frederick I of Denmark. She would die the next year in 1482.
Anne of York was first suggested to marry Philip, the future Duke of Burgundy, in 1480 as a part of a tentative Anglo-Burgundian alliance against France that Burgundy desperately wanted but that Edward IV only toyed with to pressure France into honouring their marriage alliance and wed Elizabeth of York and the Dauphin Charles. In the words of Charles Ross, Edward IV's biographer:
Edward quite ruthlessly exploited the duke’s desperate need of English support to get Anne’s marriage on the cheap. Maximilian had wanted a dowry of 200,000 crowns with Anne; Edward, on the other hand, regarded paying no dowry as part of the price of signing an alliance with Burgundy. When Maximilian argued that it was quite unreasonable for the bride of one of the wealthiest heirs in Europe to have no dowry at all, he still had small success in persuading her father to release the purse-strings. The original marriage treaty, signed on 5 August 1480, was modified by supplementary agreements on 14 and 21 August, which effectively released Edward from paying any dowry on condition of releasing to the duke the first year’s instalment of the pension of 50,000 crowns which he was demanding from Burgundy.
Here we must remember that Edward IV wanted to marry Elizabeth of York without paying any dowry at all. On the contrary, France was to pay for Elizabeth's upkeeping until she was married to the Dauphin. Edward IV, whilst dealing with Brittany to marry his son Edward to Anne of Brittany, heiress to her father's duchy, established that if the Duke of Brittany had a son before their children married, one of his daughters was to marry the duke's new son, and that Brittany—not him—were to provide his daughter's dowry. Ross cites a Breton scholar that snarkily remarked that ‘to marry his daughters without dowries was the objective which this miser [Edward IV] set before himself in the last years of his life’. Harsh.
However, Edward IV did agree to pay Cecily's dowry! Although admittedly it was much cheaper (20,000 crowns) than Edward IV himself was asking for Anne of Brittany's hand in marriage to his son (100,000 crowns as the heiress of Brittany, 200,000 in case her father had a son). Cecily of York was first betrothed to James III's heir, the future James IV, in 1473 as part of a truce between England and Scotland that allowed Edward IV to go to war against France in 1475. The truce with Scotland fell through by 1480 and by 1481 Edward IV was committed to a war against James. The next year Edward was willing to back James III's brother Alexander against him, with the condition that Alexander was to marry Cecily ‘if the said Alexander can make hymself clere fro all other Women, according to the Lawes of Christian Chyrche’.
Alexander backed down after the English invasion of Scotland, and James III once again suggested Cecily marry his son and heir as part of the peace terms but Edward IV called off the betrothal for good later that year and demanded the repayment of the dowry portion he had already paid to Scotland. It seems Edward had decided to renew the war against Scotland by that time (November 1482) and back Alexander as king again. Amazingly, Alexander would go on to make peace with his brother yet again in early 1483. So by the time Edward IV died, Cecily's betrothal to Scotland's heir was cancelled for good. Richard III would wed her to Ralph Scrope, Baron Scrope's second son and a man that was part of Richard III's northern affinity.
I haven't found anything about Katherine of York's betrothal during her father's reign. She was probably too young, being born in 1479. EDIT: There was a plan for Katherine to marry Isabella of Castille's heir Juan as proposed in 1482. See reblog in the notes.
And that's it! Basically, Louis XI's peace treaty with Burgundy in December 1482 frustrated at least two of Edward IV's marriage plans. The Dauphin of France would marry Margaret of Austria (Mary of Burgundy's daughter) instead of Elizabeth of York. On the other hand, Burgundy, no longer in need of Edward IV's help, was under no obligation to go through with the marriage of Anne of York and the young Philip of Burgundy. Edward IV's falling out with Scotland also meant Cecily's betrothal was called out.
By the time Edward IV died the only betrothal that was likely to go through was Prince Edward's with Anne of Brittany, so whenever I see people saying that if it wasn't for Edward's death Elizabeth of York would be queen of France, Cecily queen of Scotland, Anne duchess of Burgundy etc I can only assume the person saying that doesn't know much about the upheavals of the 1480s — or Edward IV's own disinclination to pay dowries for the marriages of his daughters.
I hope this answer was of some help, and once again, sorry for taking so long to reply.

Ruby’s and Ozpin’s Mythology Allusions and How to Flip the Script on Ragnarok
Ever since Volume 6, I’ve talked quite a bit about how the possible allusions that a number of RWBY characters could have to Norse Mythology. Mostly how I think Ruby Rose herself has surprisingly quite a bit in common with Odin, and particularly how I think Ruby in many respects makes a far BETTER Odin than Ozpin does. Basically, I think the only thing Ruby needs to be a full-blown proper literary allusion to Odin is an eyepatch.
And of course, Ruby’s not the only one: We’ve got the more-well known cases like Nora being an allusion to Thor, Qrow and Raven being Odin’s ravens Huginn and Muninn and Ozpin having a few nods to Odin, even if I think Ruby ultimately has more in common with Odin. Then there is less obvious examples like how Yang’s missing arm and being her team’s most upfront fighter could make her a reference to Tyr. Or how Cinder’s fire powers, use of flaming swords and ties to Salem’s doomsday plot could make her a nod to Surtr. And I think we can all agree Neo could make for a perfect allusion to Loki.
However, there is one prominent Norse deity that has really stumped me for a while now. Not because I feel he HAS to be included somehow, but because one RWBY character has connections to them that throws a lot of theories into question.
Tumblr media
Specifically, I am referring to Baldr. And here’s why the absolute golden boy of Norse Mythology has had me so stumped:
You see, Baldr is the son of Odin and is a god of light and beauty and purity and general goodness and is basically beloved by all the Norse gods. He’s also invulnerable to harm from all things except mistletoe, which of course he manages to get killed by. Specifically thanks to Loki being his customary chaotic little shit.
Tumblr media
However, Baldr also doesn’t STAY dead. He’s supposed to be resurrected after Ragnarok when all the older gods, giants and monsters (Odin, Thor, Heimdall, Tyr, Loki, etc.) have been slain. From there he leads the other survivors of Ragnarok, mostly the other children of those other gods like Thor’s sons Magni and Modi, as well as surviving humans, into the new world that comes after Ragnarok.
Now, does quite a bit of all that sound a LOT like one RWBY character in particular? Friendly, nurturing, beloved by all their friends and family. Leads the new generation after the previous generation has fallen. Heavily associated with LIGHT?
Tumblr media
Yeah, as far as I could tell for a while, the best candidate for a Baldr allusion among RWBY’s main cast is Ruby herself. You know, the one who ALSO happens to have a lot in common with Odin?
Needless to say, this question of whether Ruby is an Odin allusion or a Baldr allusion left me rather stumped for a pretty long time now. After all, it’s just a bit hard for Ruby to be an allusion to BOTH. But recently, I think I may have finally come up with a way of rectifying all this. And it’s definitely one of the weirder theories I’ve come up with…
Because I now think there is another RWBY character that fits a lot of Baldr’s characteristics. Someone who was a very well-liked and respected leader (in his time), was very optimistic, is heavily associated with light, and unlike Ruby, HAS come back to life after being killed. A bunch of times actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, I’m talking about Ozma.
Specifically building off the reverence/respect/loyalty his followers show him (at least at the start of the show), the fact that he’s effectively an agent for the God of Light and how he’s been resurrected.
And you know how RWBY always takes its folklore/fairy tale/literary allusions and turns them around, flips the script or otherwise don’t play the narrative straight?
Tumblr media
Well, I now have a feeling that Ruby and Oz represent a role-reversed Odin and Baldr!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruby is effectively an Odin in the position of Baldr with many of his positive qualities, specifically a young leader of the next generation after the old guard has failed. And Oz is a Baldr in the position of Odin with many of his negative qualities, specifically an old, weary leader whose obsession with forestalling the end of the world has driven everyone away from him.
Tumblr media
With Oz, we basically have a subversive, deconstructionist take on Baldr that shows how his whole destined chosen-one status could crush even the most idealistic heroes. And on the flipside with Ruby, we have a subversive, reconstructionist take on Odin that shows how they can be a genuine heroic figure and leader who can lead their family and friends to save the world.
This also neatly explains why not just Ozpin, but all of the Oz’s seem to be missing a lot of the typically key elements of Odin, like a hooded robe/cape, a tall staff or spear or especially an eyepatch. I mean, the fact that Ruby pulls off the ‘Mysterious Hooded Figure’ look a bunch of times alone makes her a better Odin than Oz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going back to Oz, consider how Ozma is revered and remembered as this great, flawless hero in his own time and recounted in ‘The Girl in the Tower’, who also happens to die tragically, a death which sets off a series of domino’s that leads to a great battle that causes the end of the world. And then he is resurrected into the new world that came after in order to fulfill a ‘great purpose’ and lead/save the new humanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really, looking at Oz’s life from the start, his story really starts feeling like some twisted version of Baldr’s, where him dying and being resurrected after Ragnarok is only the START of his story. Where his being some prophesied leader/savoir figure was a role effectively forced upon him, and has now effectively crushed him. Even the way Oz constantly reincarnates could be considered a twisted version of Baldr’s resurrection: No matter what happens, Baldr/Oz just can’t seem to die.
And of course, this would create an all too effective contrast with Ruby being an allusion to Odin and basically flip the whole concept of the Norse Ragnarok narrative on its head: The whole point of Ragnarok is that it can’t be stopped, no matter how much Odin with all his cleverness, guile, trickery and knowledge struggles to prevent it. In that sense, we can consider Odin as representing the futile struggle against one’s Fate, while Baldr represents an acceptance of Fate.
Which means that Ruby representing Odin and Oz representing Baldr completely flips this idea: Oz’s ‘acceptance’ of Fate represents cynical defeatism and assumption that Salem cannot be stopped and that the Gods cannot be allowed to return because they too cannot be stopped. While Ruby’s defiance of Fate represents optimistic determination and a refusal to submit or give up.
If Oz is a deconstruction of Baldr, then Ruby is a reconstruction of Odin.
Consider how many times Ruby has achieved victory through cleverness and outwitting her opponents: Disposing of Neo at the Battle of Beacon, incapacitating Tyrian with a sneak attack, manipulating Cordovin to get a killing shot, exploiting the Lamp’s effect of freezing time to use her Silver Eyes, manipulating Harriet by needling her competitive streak, tricking Ironwood with the help of JNPR and Emerald, disposing of Neo again during the battle in the void, the list goes on.
Also consider how Ruby is both the first to be shown using the Lamp of Knowledge and the Staff of Creation. And how a major aspect of Ruby’s character is the pursuit of answers that her parents, mentors and leaders have either hidden from her or don’t even know themselves. In other words, a quest for Knowledge.
And then of course there are the numerous symbolic references Ruby has to Death just like all Silver Eyed Warriors. Just like Odin is a God of Death.
Odin is a clever trickster who wanders the world in a mysterious hooded cloak with a tall spearstaff often on a quest for knowledge and answers. Mostly in a doggedly determined quest to avert an end of the world that others have called inevitable. A so-called fate that Odin defiantly refuses to accept.
Tumblr media
Like I’ve said before; at this point I think the only thing Ruby’s missing is an eyepatch.

𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗔 𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗦
By the request of my darling @ginevrastilinski-ocs and @dancingsunflowers-ocs (as well as @luucypevensie, though she's already been infodumped to about my newest children), I hereby present to you my new OCs for The Chronicles of Narnia! I might not have their official intro posts up for a little bit, but please still fell free to ask me questions about them!
(Before I get any futher into this, there are a few things I should clarify in order for the lore surrounding these OCs to make sense: 1) my OCs' stories are purely based off of the movie canon because the most I've read of the books is the first chapter of The Magician's Nephew, and 2) I have messed with the canon of the movies like, a lot. For starters, the Pevensies never go back into their world at the end TLTWATW, so they remain the kings and queens of Narnia. For another thing I also completely messed up the timeline so that the Telmarines try to invade and take over shortly after they become the rulers after they've heard about the White Witch's death, and Caspian defects and offers help to the Narnian crown, both because he wants to save himself from his uncle and because he never supported the invasion to begin with - basically, I'm just rewriting most of the story after the first movie to my liking. I'm still figuring out the intricacies of what that's going to mean for certain important events in the last two movies, but for now, on to telling you about the OCs!!)
HEMERA:
Tumblr media
— Susan ship.
— Hemera comes from a family of Golden Witches - witches that have mastery over light and heat and solar energy depending on their power level. Her family comes from the same coven that the White Witch used to be a part of, and only a few of them, including Hemera's mother, were able to escape and survive when Jadis killed most of the coven and took over Narnia (yes, I have also very much made up my own Narnian witch lore).
— When Hemera is eleven years old, however, Jadis comes looking for the Golden Witches she missed, killing Hemera's mother, grandmother, great-aunt, and even her human father, and she is sent away to hide, becoming the only Witch besides Jadis left alive in Narnia.
— She spends the next several years in hiding, being sheltered by kind animals or sleeping in forests and being kept safe by the trees, until she hears that the prophesied Daughters of Eve and Sons of Adam have actually arrived in Narnia and are teaming up with Aslan to form an army against the White Witches forces, and she decides to volunteer her magic to help in the fight.
— Her magic isn't actually very strong or focused, however, because she's spent so long barely using it to try and stay safe, so she doesn't do much in the fight. But after Jadis is defeated and the Pevensies are crowned rulers of Narnia, Aslan suggests that they appoint Hemera as the Court Witch - a position rulers of Narnia before Jadis would always have a Witch fill, to help in any battles and provide council on magical matters - promising that he will give her lessons to help her connect more to the Deep Magic and her own powers.
— A hopeless little lesbian who takes one look at Susan with her bow and arrows and pretty much immediately falls in love (it takes Susan a little longer, especially considering the era she comes from, but she gets there).
— Definitely just as much a ray of sunshine as her powers suggest, but also not very good at social interaction since she's spent the majority of her time alone since she was eleven, so she's very impulsive and often just says whatever pops into her head (definitely a perfect contrast to Susan's quieter and planning-inclined nature).
— She and Susan are very much sunshine x sunshine protector.
— Becomes another sister to the rest of the Pevensies; she might have lost one family, but she definitely gained another.
ALARIC RYKER:
Tumblr media
— Peter ship.
— A teenage crime lord from Thorn Town, a small city far enough away from Narnia's capital to be mostly spared from Jadis's wrath when she took over Narnia, only having to suffer the eternal cold and the general decline in food rather than the White Witch's cruelty.
— Long before Alaric was born, a smuggling ring called the Shadowy Ravens sprung up in Thorn Town as a response to the lack of resources, stealing from Jadis's soliders and shipments going to the royal palace in order to give them back to members of the community. They began resorting to worse means of getting things as time went on, even killing a few of Jadis's guards, but Jadis never payed them enough mind to take action against them, and the few soliders who did try to get revenge for their comrades were not sucessful.
— Alaric was born a street rat, born to a mother who didn't even know who his father was and who abandoned him when he was a few months old, and he was taken in by the second-in-command of the Shadowy Ravens, who raised him like his own son and taught him everything he knew.
— Alaric eventually rose to second-in-command himself (after doing some less-than-ethical tasks to prove himself) and after both the Ravens' leader and his adoptive father were killed in a scuffle with Jadis's soliders, shortly before the Pevensies came to Narnia, he rose to become the youngest leader the gang had ever had.
— About a year after the Pevensies are crowned kings and queens, when the Telmarines start to invade, Peter approaches Alaric and the Shadowy Ravens, asking for Alaric's help and for soliders to boost their army. He's heard about Alaric's gift for strategy, how despite being so young and constantly underestimated he's managed to take down several more gangs who sprung up in the early days of the Pevensies' rule and tried to steal his territory, and Peter knows his men are strong and trained enough to fight the Telmarines, but loyal enough that they will only join the fight if their leader gives them permission.
— Alaric is pretty reluctant at first - he doesn't exactly have a great amount of trust in any Narnian leaders given how he grew up - but he also figures that not only do the four new kings and queens not seem so bad, but that even if they don't turn out very well then the Telmarines would be worse, so he agrees to lend his strategic knowledge and any of his men who are willing to fight to the cause.
— After the Telmarines are defeated, Peter offers him a position as the new head battle strategist of the Narnian military, and Alaric actually decides he's had enough of being a gang leader, of all the violence and worrying about an entire village full of people depending on him, and accepts it, giving control of the Ravens over to his second but also making sure that the Pevensies set up a new system that will provide extra resources to towns and cities farther away from the capital like Thorn Town. (He also accepts the offer only a little bit because he thinks the new High King is cute and brave and compassionate.)
— It still takes him and Peter a while to get together, mainly because Alaric has big-time trust issues and struggles to let down any of his walls, but once they do they're a surprisingly sweet couple, and the other Pevensies are more than happy to accept Alaric as their new future brother-in-law.
KAI HALLOWS:
Tumblr media
— Caspian ship.
— A pirate boy!! He was basically born on the sea, to a former captain of the Narnian Navy (Jadis disbanded most of the military when she took over and replaced them with her own soliders) and his wife. Kai was born on his father's ship, but it was difficult since no one on board really knew how to help a woman giving birth, and his mother died shortly after.
— After his wife's death, Kai's father retreated into the delusion that he was still a respected member of the Narnian military (despite the fact that most of the sea around Narnia was half-frozen and everyone in the surrounding countries were too scared of Jadis to allow his ship to dock in their cities) and ran his ship like a dictator, barely ever giving his crew a break and ignoring his son unless Kai had done something he didn't like, in which case he was yelling at him loud enough for the whole ship to hear. He treated Kai more like an insubordinate member of the crew than his son, and his actual crew did more of a job raising Kai than he did, taking it upon themselves to take care of the boy and raise him right.
— Kai was definitely a troublemaker and a bit of a rogue, always getting into trouble whenever the crew was actually allowed to dock somewhere, whether that was from pickpocketing or pulling some kind of prank on a local solider. Eventually, when he was fourteen, his father became fed up with him and left him, abandoning his son at a market in a city far away from Narnia and setting sail again, despite the protests of everyone on his crew.
— But rather than let that do anything to stop him, Kai located a large abandoned ship in the local harbor, claimed it as his own, and worked odd jobs until he had enough coin to fix it up properly. A few friends he had made in the city decided to sail off with him as the first crew members of the Golden Fish - the chosen name for his new ship - and as they sailed around more and more, getting used to thieving and being pirates in general, they picked up more and more souls looking for adventure, until Kai had himself a proper pirate crew.
— And a few years later, when the White Witch was defeated and ships started coming out of Narnia again, they were able to ramp up their exploits even more, until the Golden Fish and her crew were one of the most notorious names on the high seas.
— They're so well-known, in fact, that when Caspian wants to set sail to try and find seven Telmarine lords that he thinks will have the answer to stopping the green mist that has started to overtake parts of Narnia, High King Peter decides that it would be a good idea to contact the captain of the Golden Fish and offer him a large payment for taking the prince, his two youngest siblings, and their chosen crew along for extra protection.
— Kai agrees, of course - not only will he never say no to adventure or any amount of coin, but he suspects it might be good for his reputation to do business with the High King and not wind up in prison because of it - and he and his crew take the the prince, king, and queen, along with their chosen companions, aboard their ship to set sail on this voyage.
— He and Caspian bond over their father issues at first, but they get closer and closer over the course of the adventure, with Kai bringing Caspian out of the shell he was forced to live in when he was with the Telmarines even more than the Pevensies have over the year he's been with them, and eventually, of course, they fall in love!
— Kai also develops friendships with Lucy and Edmund - he and Edmund bond over being proud bisexuals with no time for hetero bullshit, and he and Lucy are very much badass WLW/MLM solidarity - and even when the voyage is over and they return to Narnia, Peter and Susan take an immediate liking to this boy who's stolen their friend's heart and managed to make him so happy (even if he does get the shovel talk of a lifetime from both of them).
Aaaaand that's it for info on my new Narnia babies!! It might take me a bit to get some proper intro posts for them, but you can still feel free to ask me whatever questions about them you want to!!
(I know I said Grace and @oneirataxia-girl have already been infodumped to about this, but I'm tagging them both because there's new info here, and I'm also tagging @endless-oc-creations because she loves Narnia as well!!)

i have two questions for you! the first is: could you tell us more about your decision making process with narcissa, and how you brainstorm and eventually write for her character? for context, she’s one of my favourite female characters, but very few books portray her as authentically and gut-wrenchingly painfully real as you do. my second question is i’d love for you to tell us about how you do your research when you write harry potter fics. you mentioned google sheets upon google sheets of research and i’d love to learn more. i think you’re incredible, and lionheart is one of the best, if not the most excellent, draco and hermione fics i have ever read. the way you ended volume i so poetically lives in my head rent free. i want it on my tombstone. ily so much!
Hello! Delighted to answer both. Talking about writing is my special treat to myself for actually doing it.
1. Narcissa: She's so complex! She's just a spiny mille-feuille of a creature, she's so complex. I wrote the prologue before I'd even outlined Book 1, so I had this idea of Narcissa, as a widow, attempting to somehow manage the legacy of these two enormous wizarding houses without allowing them to suffocate her son, whom she loves intensely and truly — her son, whom she loves enough to lie to the face of an immortal dictator just to know that he's alive. What's she like? And so I started picking through her backstory, like: what makes her tick? What does she believe, why did she marry Lucius, why is she the only Black of her generation that survives? And then, once I had the questions lined up, the answers started coming: she grows up sandwiched between Bellatrix and Andromeda, neither of whom are model pureblood daughters, so as a sort of reaction, she ends up becoming this Model Pureblood Gentlewoman, which is epitomized by her marriage into perhaps the only house as old or important as the Blacks. But she's still an heiress in her own right, which means she doesn't need Lucius either for his money or his connections — so theirs was probably a love marriage, or at least an arrangement she had some say in. And she's the last Black standing after two era-defining wars, despite the fact that she's in very close proximity to power in both of those conflicts, so she obviously has some serious survival skills and an intuitive grasp of how to manage people.
But she's also deeply damaged. She's lost her whole family. Bellatrix joined a cult and went off the deep end, Sirius and Andromeda ran away, and Regulus died. Narcissa is the only one who did exactly what she was supposed to do, and her reward was being abandoned by everyone she ever loved. She has baggage. Her life basically ended at the close of the First Wizarding War, and the only thing she has left to live for is Draco, who she knows that she's losing to influences outside of her control, but she doesn't have the power — or isn't willing to use the power she has — to stop him, because that's how she lost Sirius and Andromeda. Pushing too hard. She doesn't want to be Walburga Black. Her problem is that she remains a Black to her core, and for her, that will always mean certain rules and certain ideas. The possibility that Draco might be moving in the right direction — i.e., that her worldview might be outdated and profoundly misinformed — is incompatible with the fact that for years she has been sacrificing her own happiness on the altar of this Thing, this Idea, of the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Black. If 'pureblood' doesn't mean something, then Narcissa has ruined her life for nothing. She has lost her entire family for nothing. Reform? For what?
2. Research: God bless the fanwikis, because they are my best friend. If I need a date or a timeline check, the fanwiki is my first resource. I have a spreadsheet of important dates ranging from 1971-1991, just because the backstory with the Blacks and Snape and Lucius is somewhat involved (many irons in the fire!) and when I was writing Book 3, I realized that I needed to hash out what happened when and where all these people were at different points in each other's lives. (Like, did Sirius and Snape see each other during the war, or is Book 3 the first time they've crossed paths since the 1977? Surely not, right? But then... when?? And where the fuck has LUPIN been since 1981? That question took about an hour to hammer out.) I make these things sound like chores, but they're not: they're more like fun little writing side-quests that I get to do before coming back to the main story. A lot of it won't even end up in the actual fic, but knowing it helps me keep the text consistent, and it also informs how I write the characters.
I also keep a big list of "miscellaneous Information" at the bottom of my outline document. Yearly quidditch rosters go here; so does stuff like political factions, family trees, and (most recently) a full diagram of who works where in the Ministry of Magic, because I realized I'd invented a passel of bureaucrats and couldn't remember who was allowed to order whom around. I have short character profiles for people like Odin Davis and Prescott Parkinson, especially ones like Pansy's mom who barely appear, because I need to know who they are if I'm going to write Pansy consistently; I also have a reference sheet for hair/eye/skin color for everyone in the cast, because I don't want to get caught up and have to invent a reason that Theo's eyes are blue in one book and brown in the next. (E.g.: they're brown, have always been brown, will always be brown. #browneyedTheo truther.) Finally, I use sites like the HP Lexicon, the conceit of which is basically "odd lists of things you didn't realize you wanted." That link takes you to a list of Harry's Christmas presents for all seven years, which is bonkers helpful if you're trying to write a Christmas scene and you can't remember who gave who what and when.
I also make a point of keeping a copy of the books on-hand while I'm writing, because I want to make sure I'm not neglecting subplots (and, if I am, then I at least want to be neglecting them on purpose). Lionheart is canon divergent, but I want to minimize the divergences to things that I can attribute to a change I've made deliberately, not just because I forgot someone was there.
Finally, if I can't find an answer to something, I might consult Reddit or fan sites to see if someone's dug it out of the books. Names of odd second-cousins, really remote family trees, who's married to whom and why, stuff like that, I'll rely on word-of-mouth. Then, if I can't find something (or find it after a reasonable search) I'll just make something up. I console myself with the knowledge that most people will tolerate you getting Harry Potter's great-grandfather's goldfish's middle name wrong so long as it's in the service of a good story, which is what I hope I can offer.

BIO  - tw mentions of adoption
Growing up, she lived in a beautiful place, prestigious side, there was so much to see and she was able to see it all. Ivy enjoyed that, she was always on the go, and if she didn’t know a certain path, she made it her goal to study it, and memorize it. Her mind was open, she was quick to catch on to many things. This made her excel in her studies. She was the honor student of her class, and she knew she wanted to do something in business. Every day she’d take a shortcut to school, and find herself listening to the people in town playing music. Sometimes instrumental, and others acapella. She found that sound, she was drawn to, and like she was connected to the people.
She knew at a young age that she was adopted into the Chamberlain family. that didn't make her feel left out, or abandoned. If anything, her family chose her right? she eventually began University and had to learn to grow up on her own. it wasn't anything new considering her parents did whatever it was they felt like. the only person she could rely on was Freya--but even that was short-lived. Ivy decided to study art, she loved paintings and she felt as though art could transport a person back in time. since she went her separate way from Freya, that didn't mean she wanted them to be out of touch, unfortunately with Freya excelling in her career (or so Ivy thought). ivy realized there wasn't room for her in Freya's life.
After graduating college, she decided to move and found herself coming back to Huntsville when the storm hit, life wasn’t the same. Hearing about all these people passing, and that creatures still lurked at night, she was still plagued with fear. She tries to be hopeful, and positive, but that can only go on for so long.
PERSONALITY
Ivy can tend to be reserved at times, she is observant and would rather listen. she likes to see what is going on before jumping to conclusions. when she is in deep thought, she can appear to seem like she is ignoring someone. that is not the case. however, she is not afraid to say what she wants. she is passionate in her love for the arts and loves teaching the kids at the high school.
CONNECTIONS
Worth fighting for (x-inspo) : someone she was close to, and they became distant. They were close enough that they could have been something. But the distance separated them. Let me be your shelter (x-inspo): Ivy trusts your muse, she didn’t think she could have a real connection, but she feels safe around you. That is enough for her. Hurricane (x-inspo): she hasn’t made the right choices along the way. Your muse could have been a fling, or something to pass the time. Though oddly you two are good friends. A part of me (x - inspo): this person is like a true sibling to you. They understand you and frankly, you’re happy to have them in your life.

adoptive parent: kolya ivanov adoptive sibling(s): daisy hobbs other: winnie montague, walden smith deceased family: john & amilyn ashford (parents), lamar ashford (brother) pet(s): chippy - english bulldog
open for the taking -
(connection) best friend - you were one of the first people outside of his new family that he connected with when he came to town. likely one of the only other people that know of the vampire-hunter history he has.
(character) left behind - you are tariq's ex-girlfriend. you either lived in the same town as him, or went to school with him. after the murders, he essentially ghosted you, never speaking to you again once he moved. now, for whatever reason, you have made your way into san arcadius and he is trying to avoid you.
(character) family slayer - you are the one that killed his family. could be that you just came to town, or that you didn't remember what he looked like when he came to town. either way, once you find out who he is, will you try to keep your identity a secret or will you try to finish the job?
once upon a time -
tariq was the second born son to john and amilyn ashford. they lived a few towns away from san arcadius for as long as tariq could remember, but his parents had grown up in england.
growing up, tariq was under the impression that he lived a fairly normal life. his parents seemed to love one another, him and his brother, lamar, got along greatly, minus a few brotherly scuffles over the years.
the only strange thing, tariq found, was that his parents were very mum about their own childhoods. this frustrated him at times because he wished to know more about his family's history. other than his gran, he didn't know any other extended members of his family.
tariq was a law student at boyd, deciding it cheaper to stay in his family home while he went to college. he had been studying late in the library on a foggy, october night, coming home far past his normal time when he arrived to what could only be described as a massacre. there was blood everywhere, his family slaughtered.
before he had the chance the call the police, he was attacked. the man who attacked him had red eyes and before tariq's own eyes closed, he could've sworn he saw the man turn into a bat and fly out of the backdoor.
the case of his family's murders became a cold case. the two survivors: tariq and the family dog, chippy. though, tariq began to wonder if he survived at all, as he started craving blood, growing fangs, and being burned by sunlight. he began wandering the streets at night, not sure what to do or what was happening to him. it wasn't long after that he met, or rather was found, by koyla.
koyla took him in, giving him a family again by moving him into walden's mansion and explaining to him what he had become, a vampire.
a few years after he had settled, he began to dig into the one thing he had never been allowed to before: his family's history. he had originally been under the belief that it was a random attack, but he soon learned that was unlikely. as it turned out, his family in britain were renowned vampire hunters. once his parents had decided to start a family, they moved to the states to start a new life and relinquish their own bloody history to start anew.
tariq has still been trying to uncover as much about his family's past as he can and has been upfront with his new family about his findings, though he isn't keen to share any information with strangers. he finally feels he has footing again. a new father for this new life, a younger sister (which he always wished for), and uncles and aunts.
inside information -
after 'the night', tariq dropped out of law school. he now works at stitchcraft with koyla, mainly keeping track of the books and appointments.
he has always been a fan of anything that keeps his mind occupied, often can be seen working on a puzzle.
tariq is always down for a game of chess.
it wasn't until college that he became fascinated with astrology. he is always down to learn new things about it.
his parents had always encouraged both of their sons to do something outside of classes. while his brother chose the sports route, tariq picked the music route. he is very well trained on the piano, but can also sing and play accordion.
his dog, chippy, is far too lazy to chase walden's birds and can often be founding snoozing with one or more of them perched on his back.
after losing one family, there is almost nothing tariq wouldn't do to keep his new family safe.

We're so close to seeing the final 10 episodes of Manifest and I am so freaking excited!
I don't know if Ben and Saanvi are endgame or if they're even gonna go there, but they're definitely going to be getting closer in these last 10 episodes and it has been clear since day one that they have for sure come into each other's lives for a reason.
But anyway, I wanted to write a scenario in which they explore their feelings for each other, whether it comes real or not. I can't WAIT to find out on June 2nd!
Peace and love,
Renee.
...
Ben and Saanvi were equally exhausted as they were wired. Running for your life at a Top Secret Government Facility will do that to a person.
Knowing they'd gotten far enough away to evade the authorities and escape immediate danger, they began to slow the pace of their walk.
They were still a few miles out from basecamp and although desperate to get back to the others to tell them what they had found, they knew they needed to rest first.
They had no shelter of course and very little to eat or drink. Their surroundings were quite barren which left them exposed to the elements.
But they had each other, and the stars were magnificent.
After picking a particular patch of dirt on which to sit, Ben curled his legs up to his chest and shivered.
"Cold?" Saanvi softly queried.
He nodded his head against his knees. "Don't know why though, it's nearly Summer and the air's pretty warm."
Wrapping her arms around herself, Saanvi gave him a sympathetic smile. "You've lost body fat. None of us have had enough to eat these past few months."
She was right. You couldn't exactly order takeout while living off the grid.
The passengers had formed a sort of commune, a self-sufficient one. They had learned to grow their own food and had really only been living off that and the few basic supplies they received from trusted outsiders on about a once-a-month basis.
Being on the run from the registry was a case of self-preservation for them all. They knew if they had any chance of surviving the death date and saving the world, it wasn't going to happen with them all locked up in prison cells.
Despite knowing they had a bigger mission to fulfill, the comforts of home were missed by everyoneBen could barely remember the days of sitting in his living room in front of the fireplace - with his family. It seemed like a whole other lifetime ago. What he wouldn't give to live in the comfort of those moments again.
Ever perceptive to him as she was, Saanvi asked shyly, "Do you wanna…warm each other up?"
He turned his head to her, snickering bashfully at what it sounded like she was suggesting…until the look in her eyes confirmed it.
Off his immediate lack of response, she shook her head, feeling embarrassed. "Forget I said anything."
But Ben didn't want to forget. He wanted to be reminded. Of what it felt like to lie in a woman's arms, to be held gently and tenderly. To be wanted, to be craved. To be loved.
Pressing his palm to her cheek, the action already a good start to warming both of them, he brought his lips to hers. Against his mouth, her breath was sultry, by both meanings of the word. They became wrapped up in each other, no longer nervous or afraid. More fearful of not having a deeper connection than of upsetting the balance of the one they already shared.
There was an undefined trust between the two of them that had been there from the day they met. With that trust at the fore, they gave themselves unreservedly to one another.
Protecting the back of her brilliant, beautiful head, he lay her down on the unforgiving ground and covered her with every bit of the love in him he still had left to give.
No two people lived more in the knowledge that nothing happened by accident, everything that occurred in the universe did so for a reason and a purpose. To not find the purpose out of the slew of tragedy that had befallen them would be a tragedy in and of itself.
And so they were both equally unabashed in honoring their mutual feelings. For Ben, being with Saanvi and for Saanvi being with Ben, sharing their time, their intellect, their passions, and now in baring their spirits completely to one another, they each felt like the freest versions of themselves.
They both wept, crying with relief to be here together now as well as for all the lost time. Then again, they knew it had been time needed to heal, to grieve, to trust again, to relearn how to give themselves, mind, body and heart, to another person.
The years they had been in one another's lives had passed so swiftly, yet it felt like they had known each other forever in their souls. The journey they had been on was perilous beyond anything anyone else on Earth could imagine. Whatever happened next, Ben and Saanvi were bound forever.
They lay together, beating heart to beating heart. Satiated, content and more than warmed.
Sensing he may have been suffocating her for holding her so tightly, Ben released his grip on her a little but Saanvi whimpered and pulled his arm back around her. "Mm-mm, don't let go."
He kissed the top of her head and softly whispered. "No. Not until the very end."
There was nothing around them for miles and nothing comforting or safe guaranteed for their future.
But they had each other, and the stars were magnificent.

#HUNTSVILLEINTRO;
THE BASICS ;
FULL NAME: rowan lake
GENDER: female
PRONOUNS: she/her
AGE: thirty-four
DOB: october 4th
OCCUPATION: radio show host
RESIDENCE: the town
RESIDENT or VISITOR: resident
HUNTER or GATHERER: n/a
TITLE: the meme
FACECLAIM: dakota johnson
THE BIO ;
34 years old
originally born and raised in huntsville
rowan had a normal childhood growing up. she has no issues with it. her parents were present and she was well looked after.
as time went on, rowan became like any other teenager, she wanted freedom and she wanted love. she grabbed both by the horns and fell in love with a boy.
ruled by her heart and being a typical teenager thinking she knew better than the world, rowan slept with her boyfriend.
a week passed and she started to feel ill. brushing it off as a cold, she continued on with her normal routine of school, friends, boyfriend...
another week passed and she was still feeling ill, by week three rowan was throwing up and experiencing signs that pointed to another reason instead of a flu. a very kind old woman of a pharmacist saw the panic and tears on her eyes when she approached the counter and helped her find a test.
rowan bawled when she saw the tiny (+) sign on the test, her parents were going to kill her.
and if they could have they probably would have, they stopped talking to her and as soon as she was sixteen she was asked to leave the family home
rowan falling pregnant at 13 was A SCANDAL for the ages in huntsville
she got a lot of shit and lost majority of people in her life.
people hurled verbal abuse at her calling her every nasty name under the sun
ever defiant, rowan held her had high and carried on. nine months later her darling little leia was born.
a few months later and byeyeboyfriend, he split and left her to raise leia alone
she was made a cautionary tale by parents in the town who didn't want their kids to meet the same fate, a "look what happened to rowan lake" tale
she had it hella tough and people weren't kind to her because of the scandal.
despite the haters, rowan proved herself to be a diligent and capable mother, she studied at home while looking after leia and went above and beyond for her daughter
at sixteen, rowan got her own place juggling studies, jobs and a toddler. thankfully her ex-boyfriends parents were able to babysit while rowan worked her ass off to give leia the best life she could.
at eighteen she got a job in broadcasting and worked her way up, a few years later and she was broadcasting on tv
it was all going swimmingly, she was killing it at work, she was successfully being a mum, she was proving everyone wrong and she was being a role model for leia.
then IT happened. live on tv. out of town reporting on storm season, rowan was struck by lightning live on air.
it became a meme, it haunts her to this day
years down the line she can laugh about it sort of. she almost died and has an insane scar that runs from the left hand side of her neck right down across her back and ribs, but whatever as long as you found it funny.
since the paradox, tv is out of the equation, rowan turned to radio broadcasting. she hosts a successful show that keeps people entertained throughout the day
someone who never really found their footing of who they were as a person until later in life.
a woman who has no filter and no shame on topics.
a tv broadcaster with a plan who settled for radio, she’s not happy about it, she has emmy’s goddamn it.
her ignorance at the looming threat can be seen as stupidity, but it’s more fear of acknowledging it. she's terrified at leia being in danger 24/7
OTHER NOTES;
besties with celia
survived an attempted kick from sister hardy - she rolled out the way just in time
adores the life out of leia & will go above and beyond for her
is sure leia has some part of spreading the meme around but has no evidence
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS;
friends
old friends
co-workers
old-coworkers
neighbours
ex's
flings
ex boyfriend
leia's friends
radio show fans
tv show fans
people that want to terrorise her about the meme
will be updated to suit as rowan's time at huntsville progresses

Two-Toes Johnny [Johnathan Shine]
(I’ve already made an information post like this, but said post is pretty long; in fact, it’ll just get longer and more expansive as I develop new characters and stories for [The Future Mob Project]. And I’m worried that the sheer length will make readers lose interest when they click on a link to look for a specific character. So, I’ll be making separate information pages for each character while still maintaining the all-inclusive post. Got it? Good.)
Who He’s Based Off Of: Bob Muyskens (Muyskerm)
His Method of Work: Though he’s not really a hitman, Johnny still knows his way around interrogation and message-sending. His weapon/tool of choice is a baseball bat that was apparently an heirloom he just so happened to inherit as a teenager. It might not look like much, but neither will those who anger The Pentas Family (or their clients) after Johnny uses it to beat them black and blue.
Red Attire: Belt (Tawny Port)
Notes:
Now, to address the elephant in the room: yes, he actually does only have two toes. The right big-toe and the left middle-toe, to be specific. All that’s left of the other eight are scars, and exactly how he lost them is a total mystery. Sure, he might vaguely rant about the incident(. . .s?) from time to time—usually after he’s had a few too many drinks—but it just seems impossible for anyone to figure out what the hell happened, as well as why the hell it happened.
While he’s able to get tipsy or wasted, Two-Toes Johnny is nothing if not an experienced drinker. Working in the illegal alcohol trade will do that to you. When he’s not overseeing illicit spirits, he’s The Pentas Family’s primary bookkeeper, organizing all the money he and his peers rake in. He also has a keen set of eyes and ears, which he puts to good use each and every day. When you know what to look/listen for, it’s amazing how many details strangers can spill without meaning to.
He’s the owner/manager of Liquorty Splitz, a (what else?) popular liquor store in the Cove Port Inlets. It currently supplies alcohol to Aftertaste, Itchy Palms, and several other joints. The building is connected to the abandoned subway tunnels. (He also has a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend type link to a place called The Robe. It doesn't fall under Pentas control—it’s basically an open secret in the criminal underground as a whole—but ever since Johnny entered the mob, he’s sort of paved the way for Murdock and the others to occasionally use their free-time to pay it a visit.)
He carries a very rough-around-the-edges demeanor. Sarcastic, moody, blunt, quick to make snappy remarks or roll his eyes. It’s one of many survival mechanisms he’s learned over the years. Despite this, he still knows how respect and basic decency work. Earn his trust, and you’ll have an invaluable friend for life. (In such cases, the term “aggressive motivation/positivity” is an understatement.)
He’s a bookworm. His collection of novels is almost constantly threatening to grow bigger than his collection of vintage alcohol. He appreciates a lot of modern stuff, but he has a particular soft spot for the classics. In fact, he always keeps a few books in his desk at Liquorty Splitz to read on slower nights.
He has two tattoos on his face: a silvery little star just below his right temple, and the branch of a cherry blossom tree stretching along his jawline and ending near his left eyebrow. It’s not uncommon for him to trace the linework of either of them with his fingertips while he’s thinking. He claims that there’s no symbolism behind either of them, that they were the results of a couple drunken nights that took place a long time ago. (There’s a decent chance that’s true. . .but then, why does his expression occasionally turn soft and unreadable when he looks at these tattoos in the mirror?)
Standing at 6’4, Johnny is the biggest/tallest member of The Pentas Family. And he obviously knows how to use this to his advantage. As in, if he and his peers are in a violent situation, he’ll barely hesitate to pick said peers up by the waist/collar/legs and just. . .swing them in the direction of the enemy. Since the peers in question often have weapons on-hand, this method is shockingly efficient. (It’s typically not appreciated, of course.)

"Strolling With Master"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Artwork by: TheRScrooge on the left. ImfamousE on the right]
Eventually Storm joined the two girls and the three vampires continued on through the forest into a clearing where a little cemetery was set up. Storm explaining it was an abandoned one when some developers move things off the island and now was largely part of his family's property which, given his undead nature, certainly didn't mind. This lead to some discussion about where Storm came from (earliest memory was out in Los Angelus), how long had he been a vampire (revealing he was born one and been around at least since the 1970s) and his manor ownership (which he revealed was recent as it was a building his family had as a extra hiding spot that was given to him to start his own coven. He didn't expect to run into people so soon and it was a stroke of fate he ran into the same cave Sadie and Katie did, hence why his throne/coffin room wasn't ready yet). Plus that the island Total Drama was on was actually connected to the mainline, it was just secluded so the competition could take place in private. There was even a town past Storm's manor.
The topics soon turned to some myths about vampires:
Sunlight wouldn't kill them just strip their powers and make them no stronger then a normal human till next nightfall (when asked why media keeps stating it does, Storm answered it was hack writers getting their myths mixed up that it became commonplace. As well as using it to have easy outs to kill them off in their stories, plus largely for dramatic effect). They just had to watch their sleep schedule since they could still get drowsy if up too long.
Stakes would do the trick though, but then again who wouldn't that kill?
Garlic acts as universal allergen to vampires due to the strong smell affecting their senses, so to be careful around them.
They would be invisible to mirrors, least at night. But the reflection would come during the day. Cameras on phone could catch them just fine as they were digital and didn't use mirrors.
And crosses vary since it's a lowkey form of holy magic but depends on what fate a vampire followed when they were human to be affected, and even then can be bypassed given time.
As for powers, as the girls could see to Storm's amusement, they had flight along with super strength, speed, senses & agility, and the ability to cling to walls. They could even turn into various creatures like bats, wolves and cats too, though Storm mentioned the girls weren't ready for that just yet.
More importantly, that they now needed blood to survive. Though really didn't really need much, a least an ounce of blood to meet their quota and leave their victims stunned but unharmed, with only full draining needed to turn someone. Storm even had a few blood packs on hand which he had gotten from...sources. Though he admitted hunting and feeding does keep a vampire's senses sharp and basically like exercise to them, plus, y'know, it's fun being a terror of the night. That said he did have rules which were likewise imparted to him by his family: Keep bites clean, no messy gory feedings, no evisceration and dismemberment if they could help it and no needless cruelty, otherwise they could enjoy themselves as they wished during their nightly outings.
Storm then gave them the option to go feed on one of the packs or hunt and, unsurprisingly, the girls were all gung-ho for the latter which he figured as much, chuckling at their enthusiasm. It was just as well, he was very curious of this reality show they were on and steered the conversation into what the girls knew about their fellow contestants. The girls quickly catching on to his drift and smiling wickedly their newly gained fangs in response.
