Mar 2023 Seitokai Bookclub | とつくにの少女
Hi friends! The Seitokai Bookclub is STILL ongoing--the only reason why you haven't seen a post about it lately is because we were still reading コンビニ人間. However, starting on Feb 26, we will be reading とつくにの少女 (Totsukuni no Shoujo), also known as The Girl from the Other Side. If you're interested in joining us or want more details on how our bookclub runs, come join us in the server or feel free to message me/drop an ask (or even @litheah and @tokidokitokyo).
What if I've never read a book in Japanese yet? I'm not confident in my skills. That's fine! Not only do we always have a group vocab sheet that we collectively add to (anonymously), but we have ongoing discussions about whatever book we're reading. That means you're free to ask questions, send screenshots, rant about a character or anything like that. You'll definitely find me asking about certain grammar points or if using a particular set of kanji for a word changes the nuance in a particular sentence.
What's the goal of your bookclub? Well, we're interested in fostering confidence in reading in your target language without feeling that you have no one to turn to. Our server has people of all levels of fluency, meaning that there's always someone who can answer your question. And if we can't, we have people we can reach out to ask. We won't leave you hanging!
You don't seem to choose books I'm interested in--how can I change that? Well, we take suggestions and vote as a bookclub for what we'll be reading next. If your book doesn't win the first time you submit it, try try again! とつくにの少女 was suggested and in voting 3-4 times before it finally won (same with a lot of our other books.) Don't be discouraged!
We hope to see you there! | Seitokai's Nihongo Discord Server

TW: depression, dissociation
When I was in college I dealt with an ever-present catatonic depression that would last for months at a time.
I had this concept that I called a non-day which was when I would look back on a day and couldn't remember anything about it. Not sadness or boredom or loneliness or anything. It was like the day just hadn't happened.
It wasn't until I read Crimson Rivers this week that I heard the phrase dissociative amnesia and realized that's what I was going through then.

Es sollt ein handy app das alles automatisch übersetzt existieren. Vielleicht sollte ich es manuell selbst machen. Aber kopieren und einsetzen alles das ich lesen mochte klingt... nicht gut.

On Sunday I got a copy of the Silent Patient from Shakespeare & Co. Despite it being incredibly touristic I actually really love coming here! People rarely spend a lot of time upstairs, so it’s always so nice to use the reading spaces to go through a quick poetry book or to do some journaling :-)

DPxDC Prompt: I Got You Brother
Danny has been in Gotham for a while after things went south with his parents. But that's what happens when one's parents are convinced by the G.I.W. that Phantom killed "Real Danny" and took his place as a way to fill his sick obsession of "being alive" which - they couldn't be further from the truth - but his parents were so convinced by the evidence that they refused to listen. Vlad expected Danny to go with him and when Danny refused it made part of him snap.
Danny fled from his parents, the GIW and Vlad in the dead of the night. No family, no friends, nobody knew where he was and that was how he liked it.
He lived at the cave with the bats but refused their offer to come upstairs. He knew who they were and that they were safe but he also knew that if he took one step onto that elevator they would be his family. They would be his family and he couldn't risk losing another family.
He thought that living in the cave would prevent any of them from getting attached. So quickly his schedule turned into a cycle of patrols. Start patrols, stop in for lunch, patrol until dinner, patrol until breakfast, patrol again until lunch. Repeat day in and day out.
He told the team he didn't need to sleep and told them that he was fully a 'Ghost' from another dimension. As many details as he could keep from them the better.
Or so he thought.
Until after nearly a week of these endless patrol things changed. A fight with a particularly powerful ghost had wiped him out and while he managed to stay on his feet when he tried to continue patrol his vision blurred and his transformation dropped.
And so did Danny.
Danny wasn't even aware somebody was tailing him until a thick rope wrapped around his wrist and stopped his fall. Danny swung, hitting the side of a building with a tired grunt as he looked up.
Orphan.
"New brother! Got you!" Orphan called down to him as Danny tried to get his powers to respond, desperate to do anything to protect Orphan who was sliding closer to the edge.
Spoiler showed up within seconds, grabbing Orphan's ankles just as Orphan went over the edge and Red Robin grabbed Spoiler around her ankles. Frantic shouting echoed as Nightwing grabbed Red Robin around his ribs, the weight threatening to pull them all over before Red Hood grabbed Nightwing.
Danny reached up, trying to grab the rope when another wrapped around his free wrist from next to them. Batman was there and by his side was Robin, also there to help Danny and the others up.
He hadn't wanted a family.
He had run from who he was and the ones he loved.
But he found more people to love him.
It wasn't until Signal showed up - having been alerted to the situation and called to the scene - that Danny let the tears drip down his face.
He was home.

With the Contemporary and Classic Literature Book Club Jasmine welcomed Alessio, Cali, Noah and Selena to the first meeting of the Contemporary and Classic Literature Book Club. All based in Shoreditch, they planned to take turns hosting the club in their homes over supper with a theme or a twist. The first supper had a little bit of both and was inspired by the book they had read for the…

There's something about reading really great writing that's so relaxing. You can just sit back and let the words wash over you, knowing that you can trust the writer.

Apr 2023 Seitokai Bookclub | かがみの孤城
Hi!! The Seitokai Bookclub will be reading かがみの孤城 (Kagami no Kojou), also known as Lonely Castle in the Mirror in English. A movie adaptation was recently released in December (I haven't seen it yet), so we're all jazzed up! It doesn't matter which version you get! We have the schedule with both pages, sentences, and numbers written out. I have a full-furigana version (that also has pictures included), some people have the two-book set, some people have the original single copy. Everyone is welcome!

I can't afford a copy of the book. Message me. Or send a message in the bookclub channel of the server saying that you need a copy. Someone will help. We're aware that Japanese learning resources are not available or readily accessible in multiple areas around the world.
Hope to see you there! Server | Studygram | Server Instagram
You might see some familiar names from tumblr in the server 😉🤗 We don't bite and you can watch in live time as we scream in agony over book characters, obscure kanji, and plot holes in any given book that we're reading.

i NEED to know how he's dealing with the news
Sonic Prime was really entertaining and fun actually, i have only a couple comics and the fandubs as base of what these characters should act like, so i enjoyed it with a fresh mind and liked the interactions This was my first time drawing them, i am so very bad at them

Imagine being 9 years old and asking your dad about the things you're interested in doing when you grow up and he's like "No ❤️! But you can get married, have babies, and then maybe your sons can do those things ☺️🫶 "
#arya stark#one of those /wtf Ned/ moments#then people act like she invented misogyny cause she was like /uuuhhhhh no thanks that's not me/#/Arya is masculine/ and she's literally just a child who has interests outside of her patriarchy-assigned role#the way people read this and then demonize Arya for not silently conforming like people expect her to...#that's the ingrained misogyny from being socialized in a patriarchal society speaking babes 😭#cannot stress enough how Arya is just an average little girl and what makes her behavior stand out is their society's strict gender norms#her life + learning almost entirely revolves around the fact that she is being raised to be a wife and people resent her for wanting more :#she is NINE in AGoT and her parents are discussing her refinement because /In a few years she will be of an age to marry/#the way misogyny is explored in Arya's story is actually so brilliant and well-written (+ underappreciated) though#we feel the full weight of how restrictive their society is through her POV and get the experiences of lower-class women too#which is why it's so significant that George wrote her based on feminists who realized they wanted more than becoming wives/housewives#she's one of his key characters who will /change the world/ but people think he's sticking her on a boat bc she isn't feminine enough 😭#thank god he's writing the books and not any of these reductive hacks who thinks misogyny is subversive 🙏🏾#sidenote: would've loved to see this from her POV to get her feelings when he said this cause I'm sure it doesn't match Ned's perception#considering he views her main issues as being stubborn/difficult while we know about the self-esteem issues she has
