It was suppose to be a normal day.
Well, as normal as his days gets lately. Come home straight from school, go to a photoshoot, piano lesson, - the whole jazz.
Don't get him wrong, it absolutely did start off like that. Then soon after he was home from his activities, he got the text.
The dreaded, anger inducing text. And oh man, did he get angry. Downright furious. How many times has he told her to leave Marinette alone? But then again, did he expect anything else from the girl who lied her way through everything? So no, he wasn't surprised, he knew this was something Lila was capable of doing.
"You... good?" he heard a voice ask but Adrien wasn't really paying attention. He was doing everything he could at the moment to not attract an akuma.
The little creature flew into his sight, gazing at him in concern. "Adrien?"
"We're going out, Plagg." He muttered, his lips set in a hard line. "I think it's time for a little destruction, what do you think?"
"Oh, sounds fun. But why?" Plagg responded, gulping down a slice a cheese before lazily landing on Adrien's shoulder.
Raising an eyebrow, Adrien stood up and strode towards his bedroom windows. "A certain someone needs to be taught a lesson."
Plagg snorted, getting ready to be sucked into the ring again. "I will only agree if it's that sausage hair girl."
Adrien winked at the kwami, muttering the phrase needed to be his alter ego. "Let's go have some fun, Plagg."

There was just one word to describe the current situation at the Dupain-Cheng residency.
Chaos.
"Chloé, don't yell." Kim hissed, placing a finger on his lips.
This only seemed to make the mayor's daughter angrier and she narrowed her eyes. "What did I tell you guys before?"
Hearing that, Alya sighed and slumped down on one of the couches. "That Lila isn't as awesome as we thought."
"Exactly." She huffed, her arm crossed, the scrowl not receding even a little. "Now, what are we gonna do?"
Nino raised his hands to his chest, a heavy sigh leaving him. "I know we've been suspicious about Lila lately, but let's wait till everyone shows up, yeah?"
Kim nodded and began pacing, his hands in his pockets. He was happy everyone agreed with each other and that what Lila did was at all not okay. But it looked like she only targeted Marinette and it didn't make any sense.
"Why does Lila hate Marinette?" He asked, turning back towards the group. "I don't get it."
Everyone in turn, frowned. What exactly did happen between the two girls?
"Do you think it started when Marinette called her out as a liar?" Sabrina spoke up, her eyebrows raised. "That's the first public disagreement I can really remember."
All around the room, sounds of agreements could be heard. It was soon after Lila transferred over to their class and almost immediately, Marinette didn't like her.
"I think the next time was when Lila said Marinette did all those things and she got expelled." Myléne added, the frown on her lips only deepening. "I haven't heard Marinette talk about her between those two times, really."
And as if on cue, all heads turned towards Alya, the best friend of the said girl.
"Did Marinette say anything that went on between those two?" Nino asked, sliding his hand over to hold one of hers.
Lowering her gaze, Alya sighed. "There were a couple of times, but nothing malicious. The only other time I can really remember is the day Lila went over to Adrien's house." Biting her bottom lip, Alya glanced back up to the group surrounding her. "For some reason, Marinette thought Lila's intention were not innocent at all."
"That reminds me!" Chloé interrupted, snapping her fingers as she pulled out her phone. "It was the same day this was sent to a few of us, right?" Finding what she was looking for, Chloé turned her phone around to show the rest of the teens.
Displayed on the blonde girl's phone was the picture taken by Lila and it showed her giving Adrien a cheek kiss.
Leaning back from the phone, Kim let out a low whistle. "Is it just me of does Adrien look uncomfortable?"
Nodding, Alix raised her eyebrows as she ran her fingers through her hair. "He definitely looks unc-"
"We're here!" Called out a voice, six people stepping into the room soon afterwards. "And I'm ready to fight a bitch." The girl in the pink dress said, a dangerous glint in her eyes.
"Thank you, Rose." Chloé nodded at her and turned back to face everyone else. "Now that everyone is here, we need to think of something."
Nino held up a finger, frowning. "Adrien isn't here yet."
"Oh, he is! He's helping Marinette with something." Myléne piped up.

I will go mostly in order of publishing (most recent first), with the exception of my two WIPs. I am also not going to include the single E fic that I have because... well, I don’t want to.
1. These Scars of Ours: The bright blue flash of Azula’s lightning was imprinted on her eyes.
2. Rewrite the Stars: The Upper Ring of Ba Sing Se was full of upscale shops and restaurants that Katara had taken to exploring while the others were all off on their adventures as a way to keep herself entertained and take a break from the responsibilities of planning an invasion.
3. Prove It (Tired of These Walls): It was crowded in the Upper Ring.
4. Of Fire Lords and Fire Ladies (So Sublime): The people of the Fire Nation loved him.
5. Anniversary (Crashing Waves): Three years.
6. When Night Falls (Obvious): Sokka watched as Katara and Zuko made their way to the beach together.
7. Remember When? (Feelin’ Sentimental): “Hey.”

16. Box of Secrets (Lock and Key): There’s a box on Zuko’s nightstand that she can’t help but wonder about.
17. Back Home (Tiny Shivers): The plane lands and Katara sits up straighter, little shivers of excitement racing down her spine.
18. A Life Flashes By (Caught in the Moment): It’s only a few seconds, but it feels like a lifetime.
19. I Can Hear You (Were You Lonely?): He could tell roughly the passage of time.
20. Owner of My Heart (Little Pieces): It was the little things, she realized later.
Well, I guess it’s pretty obvious I’m a fan of the “short sentence” hook method lol. To be fair, though, most of these are drabbles written for ZK Drabble December 2020 so I had to get into the meat of the story pretty quick.
I think my favorite line is probably “She’s yelling at him.” just because it makes me laugh for some reason, followed in a close second by “I’m in love with you.” because who doesn’t like a story that starts off with such a BOLD STATEMENT.

1. Why did you chose your url?
Short answer: I'm a word nerd.
(Slightly) Long(er) answer: My degree is in communications and social studies (specifically social inquiry) and you'd be amazed at how useless hard data is in that field without its qualitative counterpart; wordier, more subjective data was always more interesting to me anyhow and fiction tells us a lot about ourselves ;)
2. Any side blogs?
This is the side blog! My main is my original writing blog @whymanwrites where I hope to one day announce that a publisher has actually agreed to put my name on a book!
3. How long have you been on Tumblr?
Since 2015/16 I think. I had always lurked rather than actively participated in fandom but once I started posting fics, this Tumblr just kinda happened.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
I do not.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
Initially, it was my original fiction blog and it was to practice marketing myself on social media as publishers like you to have some experience with that (getting published is hard enough without having to learn that on the fly)! I guess the same motivation applies to this fandom account: I trial different types of posts, see what people like, and learn how to better communicate my stories to people who might enjoy them :)
6. Why did you choose your icon?
It's just a Canva image that looks close enough to me, haha! Pasty red head was all my visual arts creativity could come up with.
7. Why did you choose your header?
I honestly had to go check what my header is, I completely forgot! I chose it because it's a photo I took for an incredible human who passed away around the time I was setting up my blog. It reminds me of him and the inspiring way he saw the world <3
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
"Give me your best Fire Lady Katara meta!" apparently!

Oh, man, I am too pacifist for this... It takes a lot to get me to actively fight with someone.
15. How do you feel about “You need to reblog this” posts?
I'm not on the newsfeed enough to be exposed to many of them but generally they have the opposite effect to what the OP intends.

Depends on the game really! I don't usually take the time to play them but this has been fun.

How in the heck do you see who you're mutuals with on Tumblr?? I am Old and Don't Know the Things. Fame isn't an important trait for me in a friend, though... Some of the people I follow are friends and I think they're spectacular people though if that counts for anything!

Yeah... turns out there’s a lot more to realise.
(Or the fic where Marinette’s a ruthless flirt, Ladybug and Adrien are dense, and Plagg can’t stop laughing at everyone)

Marinette stuffs up but when she stuffs up it’s with class, alright? When there’s a problem, her own or not, she fixes it because that’s just what she does. She spews garbage and has the composure of a flailing eel trying to stand upright – but she’s a pillar source of entertainment for it. She’s a normal girl, with a normal life (except for the superhero thing), so excuse her for trying to be adventurous once and a while.
Adventurous, flirtatious; whatever.
She’s made it to school two minutes after waking up before and was recently (6th Grade Graduation) voted “Sweetest Classmate”, so yeah, she’s quite up there. And ever since (unwillingly) sprouting the wings of a brave superheroine she’s tried her hand at a bit of confidence, despite those continual dignity stuff ups she’s played off gracefully (the tripping happens no matter what, she can’t control that, okay?) The Guy may be the son of a famous fashion artist—that has, in fact, recognised Marinette’s talent and sent her self-esteem higher than Chat’s puns make her want to throw him—and is entirely out of her league,
But see, usually that would cease her pursuits, if not for, you know, the fact she’s an epic superhero and he’s the biggest snack she’s ever seen.
Kindness? A literal angel? Most wholesome grace?
A model?
As if she’s not flirting with that.
She shivers remembering the ignorant days (half a school day) where she was under the idiocy that Adrien Agreste of all celestial beings had the tenacity to be an entitled jerk with an inheritance long enough to rival the list of times Dupain-Cheng had sliced from Chloé’s lips through the years.
And yeah, that couldn’t have been further from the truth, but genuinely, genuinely, flaws and all, Adrien Agreste is the sweetest being she’s ever met.
That she’s stuffed up her chances with, countless times.
But she’ll work on that.
Chat Noir knows how to flirt. He’s not too relevant – her miraculous partner in battle, black suit clad teenage girl idol, the best friend she’d kill herself and everyone she knows for – you know, the least of importance right now. But she’s got to admit, he has some good ones when she’s suited up. Only difference between him and her is that on Ladybug, it’s all fun and games with no meaning. But with Adrien,
she’s serious.
(Most of the time. The lines are pretty eccentric.)
She loves him. It’s whatever. She doesn’t know if he loves her back but she’ll make it work. He can’t pick up a hint for his life — causing completely no progress— but the way her indications of affection propel over his halo is just a spanner in the mission to conquer his heart; a mere stain to the golden-hearted persona she adores so much; so much as a friend, too.
Because, you know,
“We’re friends,” Adrien tells his capped bro as though the suggestive nudges up the courtyard would lessen, an attempt that fails, because an arm is slung around him instead in such a buddy-buddy way he knows is saved for interrogating or persuading purposes.
“You didn’t hear what she said to you?”
How could he not.
He didn’t mind. If anything, he found it humorous. “Yeah, she’s just messing around like that.”
“Mmmhmm… sure,” Nino says in a way that totally isn’t assuring. “I don’t even have Alya telling me we should share a locker to hide in during an akuma attack. And we’re dating.”
“That’s because Marinette’s joking around. Since we’re friends.”
“Since you’re soulmates. ”
“Mmmhmm…” he mocks, cheek twitching, “sure.”
One-hundred percent sure, according to Marinette the next day.
It’s some chemistry lesson half the class doesn’t pay attention to because they’re overreacting (ha) to their assigned lab partners, and Adrien’s fine since he’s paired with Good Friend Marinette. And although he doesn’t like her like that – after all, Ladybug’s a thing – she seriously is lovely company without so much as an awkward fence (excluding the way she stumbles heading to the bench) to hinder their bonding (haha).
Because, for those in the back, they’re just friends.
She’s funny and kind and all that, talented too – class rep, master of the arts, always doing things for others. Her confidence is mystifying but not unappreciated. In fact, having a crush on her would baffle him since she’s so out of his league (he says, dressing up as a cat and going after a superhero) , or at least impossible considering how much she’s definitely kidding with her flirtatious behaviour. No matter what Nino says.
The equipment clinks on the benches as his partner sets up. Distracted by Chloé whinging about Alya for a lab partner, he’s oblivious to the manner about how Marinette scoots next to him.
“Look at us together. I bet we were paired because we have so much chemistry,” she says, out of nowhere, and yet completely expected at the same time as he turns back. “I guess we just work so well together.”
His lips tickle, but he sterns himself by moving an elbow dumbly, knocking a small beaker of water so the contents spill across a ripped page of discarded notes. Her old work fuses to the bench as the ink bleeds and they watch. “Apparently not.”
Marinette cracks a grin. “You suck.”
“You suck.”
“You—”
The lesson is a blast.
Marinette doesn’t know how someone can get any more dumb. Or is it dumber? Whatever. They’re tied for English, anyway (“The A + stands for Adrien plus Marin—” “Shut up.”). And she knows it’s not her who’s the dumb one because, you know, you need to have the supremacy of a genius to have the flirtatious skills she can dish out, possibly a degree of some kind.
Adrien’s smart, but he’s not—
He’s not there sometimes. It’s because of her absolute lack of progress (and she knows the lines are just Too Good for her to not be at fault here) that she often wonders if retreating to the long-abandoned pink-cheeked and shy character would’ve made things any more obvious.
Not that she thinks they can.
“When we get married, I shots the left side of the bed.”
Seriously.
“You’re only getting the prime bed spot if you take the most dishwashing days,” he plays along, musing irresponsible blond tuffs with the towel Kim’s tossed him as he slinks from the locker room. “That includes Sunday morning. Saturday nights are major guest nights.”
His lacrosse game couldn’t have gone better, even if Nino and Alya were babysitting and didn’t attend. He scored most of the goals and the pride warming Marinette’s expression as she greets him is what tops the cake. He still hears Alix, Kim and Ivan chatting jubilantly of their win as the door swings behind him.
“You’ve obviously thought about this before.”
Adrien snaps the towel at her, purposefully missing, but water that’s been tipped on his head spurs from it and Marinette’s composure is quelled as the assumption of sweat drives her over.
“You wish.”
Boy does she ever.
They break into step down the hall. Adrien pats down his arms and side-eyes her. Her blue pools of comfort are already beaming at him.
“I did that good for a marriage proposal, huh?”

She Noticed
She's noticed a some things.
Then more things.
And finally, it's gotten to the point where she needed to ask something. To ask him.
"Adrien?" She called out, her eyebrows furrowed. "Can I talk to you for a moment?"
The blonde boy nodded, quickly slipping away from those around him. "What's up, Alya?"
Making sure no one was around, Alya took in a deep breath. "I've been... noticing some things. Does," she paused, biting her bottom lip. She opened her mouth to start once again, "does Lila bother you? I see her touching you and putting you in situations that make you seem... uncomfortable."
By the way his eyes widen and leaned back slightly, she knew this caught him off by surprised. But it was his next words that shattered her.
"You... noticed?"
She was afraid of the answer she would have found, thinking she was prepared for the worst.
"Adrien, have you told her it makes you uncomfortable?"
He shrugged, glancing away from her. "I'm use to it, being a famous model and all. Marinette makes sure to get me away before anything really happens anyways."
This was not right. This shouldn't be something he's use to - regardless of his celebrity status. "If you're uncomfortable, she needs to be told to back off. No one should be touching you unless you want them to."
At that, Adrien's shoulders sagged, and he looked so helpless, it squeezed her heart. How could someone do this to him? When he opened his mouth to speak, she was afraid of what he would say. Afraid of what she knew he was going to say.
"I have told her." He stopped, caving in on himself as he stared at the ground. "But she doesn't care."
And that was it. She was going to tear-
"Please don't tell Marinette! She would murder Lila if she knew."
"Sunshine," she smiled at him, leaning in as if whispering a secret. "She won't be doing the murdering."
The rage filled her as she leaned away, hot, blinding, burning rage. She will not be sitting back as her friend gets harrassed. Not as long as she breathes, no one will get away with something like this.
"I will."

Alix came to a clear conclusion- Lila Rossi wasn't someone to trust and Marinette had a point. But after pointing out some rather obvious things, the class fully believes her and Lila needs to be stopped.
But what's wrong with a little prank? Besides, how many famous people does Rossi actually know?

I’ve been listening to this one a lot while writing my longfic Lightning Sun. The song by Halsey dives into the psychology of someone who fundamentally believes they don’t deserve love and/or doesn’t understand or believe how other people could love them. I think with all her abandonment issues, Katara would probably vibe with this.
“Easier” by TeamHodgins
Another one for the longfic feels. At the beginning of Lightning Sun, Zuko is in prolonged recovery from Azula’s strike, thus the lyrics, “I’m stuck, I’m stuck, I’m stuck here in my skin.”
The story is told mostly through the pov of Katara, who’s on a journey of self-discovery to understand her own issues with abandonment and what they mean for her feelings towards Zuko; hence, “Tell me it gets easier, tell me it gets easier, tell me it gets easier, that I’ll figure it out.”
“I’d let you win” by quinn darley
Pretty self-explanatory for Zuko. “I’d let you in. I’d let you win my heart again.”

Not listening to it much recently. Real longfic vibes, especially with these lyrics:

Before moving onto the fic recs, I just wanna make a quick note about my preferences. Most of the following will be rated M or above. I’ve been an honest-to-God adult for a few years now, so I like fics that deal with more mature themes and adult problems.
I’m also a slut for angst. You will find very little fluff ahead (though some of these have their moments). Proceed accordingly. And not to be a hipster about Zutara fic, but there are definitely some out there that don’t get enough love, namely my top three (listed in order).
What makes a fic really stand out for me? It’s pretty simple actually. It has to be something that’s a little different, a little off-the-wall, with vivid worldbuilding. But MOST importantly, it has to make me deeply feel something. If a scene sticks in my head even months afterwards due to a combination of vivid sensory detail and visceral emotional reactions, that fic will be on this list.

No, but seriously, this fic is so much better than it has any right to be. I will admit, the frame structure of the tale is not to my taste, and some plot points in the first act may seem contrived. But my god, do you go on a journey with this fic. Bc it was written over the course of four years, you actually get to witness mangx3 improve as a writer. By the end, the storytelling is 💋👌🏻 And if that’s not enough for you, at one point, Zuko refers to Katara—in her absence, mind—as both “my heart” and “my life.” I just... I die 💀

Aang is dead + the aftermath fic. The story is well balanced between both Zutara and the steambabies.

Kind of a soulmate au. Worldbuilding is top-notch. And the climax in the third act? My god, the imagery, the emotion, just... 😭

BluePaint bible. Constantly torn between wanting to read more Blue Spirit/Painted Lady fic and knowing that none will ever compare. (I say this as someone with a BluePaint outline in the works.) This is also like my go-to re-read, though I usually stop around chapter 73 bc of that scene *fans self* and also I can’t put myself through the partial heartbreak of the ending again. Waiting to start the sequel once it’s complete.

Fair warning: this fic is incomplete and abandoned. HOWEVER, it follows the story through most of the second act, so I still left feeling satisfied. It’s a soulmate au that ends with casually married Zutara revealing their relationship to the gaang, and there’s just something so delicious about that drama.
Hopeless by @zutaradreams
The structure of this story is so unique in the way it’s sandwiched between a prologue and epilogue told from a side character pov. Plus, it’s told out of order which makes it fun to put the pieces together. Zutara build a life in Ba Sing Se when all hell breaks loose. Also, steambaby! Another go-to re-read.
Gods & Monsters by wannabewonderbender (wannabend)
If you want BAMF Katara, this is the BAMF Katara fic. Ending is a little abrupt, but I enjoyed it all the same.
The Things We Hide by Lykegenia
The worldbuilding in this au is amazing. More BAMF Katara. And no spoilers, but the ending is exactly what I would want for Ursa.
The Fifth Column by chromeknickers
Be warned: this one is dark, with incredibly dubious consent. The final showdown kinda drags on a bit, but the worldbuilding is great. Ending sets up a sequel that’s never been started, so if that bothers you, probably avoid.
