My Kimetsu Academy Au Headcanons - Shinazugawa Kyogo

Shinazugawa Kyogo - Like his canon self he did hurt his family at one point. He was a part of the police force but back when the kids were younger he went through a series of events that caused him to go off the rails for a bit.
He failed to save someone from dying and his older brother passed away around the same time. He was receiving countless pressure from co-workers and the media. They were destroying his character and painting him as the fault for what happened to the civilian.
All of these events caused him to delve into drinking and gambling.
This lasted for a few months and caused him to miss the birth of his youngest son. {Something he deeply regrets currently.} He didn’t realize the harm he was causing his family until the day he threw a bottle at Genya and Sanemi. The two received their facial scars from that incident.
It was at that moment that he realized the damage he was causing to himself and his family. In order to prevent himself from causing his family more harm he decided to start living with a friend until he could sort himself out. {A long process of rehab and therapy later…and I mean much later.}
He eventually moved back in with his family. It took some time for his kids and his wife to trust him again but they got there. His oldest children Sanemi and Genya took longer to forgive him? than the younger ones. They were most weary of him but they did forgive him at some point in the future. But not without threatening to get rid of him if he were to slip up again. {Forgive but never forget.}
Kyogo eventually got promoted to police chief despite the horrendous media backlash he received in his youth. He currently has a great relationship with his kids and wife.
{Alcohol is banned from their home.}
(Just so we’re clear, I don't like Canon Kyogo, that bitch can kiss my ass and die. In my AU Kyogo is meant to be a flawed character that made bad life choices. Just because he had reasons for his mistreatment of his children and abuse of alcohol it doesn’t mean it was okay. Kyogo didn’t get forgiven in an instant nor did he have to be forgiven.)
In my AU Kyogo didn't beat his wife or kids. He drank at home and went out to gamble sometimes so he mostly neglected his children. (Which is still not okay.) He had never laid a hand on them or injured them until the night he threw the bottle at Genya and Sanemi.
To make up for his past transgressions, Kyogo {In the present.} dotes on his children. He doesn’t make it a show to publicly display his affections; he just does it in his own way. {Ex.) He puts in the effort to make characters for his kid’s bentos, gives them extra money, pats them on the head, and cuddles with them.} I legit have no idea if this counts as doting behavior, I'm basing this off my own experiences with a closed-off parent. T-T
Yes. He very much still does this to his first and second born. Sanemi doesn’t let him cuddle him, just head pats if anything but Genya lets his dad dote on him a bit more whenever he visits home. {Especially since he moved in with Sanemi. The white-haired bastard has been cold to Genya recently and the baby doesn’t know why.}

Shinazugawa head family! (whos still alive at least, minus Kyogo)
I dont have anything like. history/folklore/origin myth for them yet but present-time the Shinazugawa clan is generally known as barbaric and merciless in their endeavors and lifestyle. They train children from the moment they learn to walk and expected to give their life to help the clan, Kyogo as clan head (was) the latest link in the long line of war-mongers who thought that more land = better and used the clan as fodder to get more riches & reputation.
Said reputation was not improved by the clan's kekkei genkai, an ability to consume chakra and absorb it for their own use. the 'consumtion' is infamously mistaken as just plain cannibalism, because the most common method of getting another's chakra is from the source. Users who have the kekkei genkai have englarged fangs, slit pupils, and when the ability is activated, dark sclera. Those who carry the gene for it (even if they dont have it) have sharper canines and their pupils can stretch to slits.
the Kochos were in some deep shit with a lightning-natured clan & agreed to a marriage alliance in turn for protection, thus Shizu got stuck with him. It was almost good at first because Kyogo thought he could trust her with his back, but he decided she was too weak to do that and she turned into a glorified paper pusher.
Shizu was still a hard worker and did her damn best to make life even a little bit easier for those she saw, and when she had children she tried to shield them from the horrors the best she could. when she couldn't she'd at least be there to comfort them.
Teiko was the first child to die- she was being trained by Shizu as a medic since Kocho are well versed in iryo-jutsu, but Kyogo had her sent with a patrol group in one of the more contested areas and she was killed in the fight.
Koto was second- he was brought to a border battle and was subsequently killed in action.
Shuya was last- he was sent on a mission with Sanemi and a few other clansmen, it went south very fast and Sanemi couldn't save him.

When Sanemi got home after that to give a mission report, Kyogo completely waved it off as the usual casualties and was generally disrespectful and dismissive about it. Sanemi finally snapped. He started laughing & Kyogo told Shizu to get her kid under control, but she was still in shock processing that another of her children were killed. When he slapped her Sanemi went into a fit of rage and enhanced his muscles with chakra and sent his fist right through his chest.
After all that chaos was processed and settled out, Sanemi was then the new clan head. He his mother and a few trusted advisors set about fixing a lot of shit wrong with the clan and set about improving relations with the surrounding clans.
Kumeno were wary about the sudden change in authority but weren't adverse to Sanemi being head, Kocho were very glad that 1 they were still allied even tho Kyogo's dead 2 they still get protection & 3 that they're trying to change the deeply violent & toxic culture within the clan

The man legit had nobody left.

Masachika (One of his best friends), dead.
Kanae (It was proven that Sanemi enjoyed talking to her), dead.
Rengoku (Everybody likes the dude), dead.
Ubuyashiki (parental figure), dead.
Shinobu (He checked on her from time to time), dead.
Iguro (his besto friendo), dead.
Genya (No explanation needed), dead.
the only one remotely close to him that is alive was Uzui. (Sanemi saw him as an older brother.)

Also Tanjirou tearing into Kyogo would be so satisfying
They would be constantly teasing them, but they would understand completely. Tanjirou is really cute. For the first time, Shinobu starts blushing. Muichiro gets slightly worried because Yuichiro pays Tanjirou too much attention.
Tengen outright tells his siblings "NO"
Kyogo is afraid of Tanjirou now; the boy can't stop yelling at him every time he sees him. Tanjirou views family as something sacred that must be protected at all costs, so he definitely doesn't like that Shinazugawa in particular.
Sanemi and Genya watch Tanjirou yell at their father and think it's really hot.

Continuing my UM!Nezuko infinity fortress fight idea. Nezuko doesn´t really mind dying. Even when the blade is about to connect with her neck she doesn´t really care.
She reunites with her family in the afterlife and starts to slowly remember her life before she became a demon. It looks like she is leaving with her family.
Then she decides she has unfinished business, regrows her head through sheer will and goes to commit blood arson.
PS. I think good ending for her story would be either dying to Muzan and helping to drag him to hell afterwards, or to the sun after Muzan is defeated and reuniting with her family this time permanently.
Great minds think alike! I was actually planning for something like this in the story! I don't have it set in stone, but I'm working on concepts for it.
I love the idea of Nezuko dragging Kibutsuji down to Hell. Probably joined by Tamayo, and Hakuji, and all the other demons who have a strong hatred for Muzan. Some of 'em are just chilling(looking at you, Douma!), others are dragging that man into the fiery pits if it's the last thing they do.
Oh, and because the Kamado family is so full of love and care for each other, her family also join in on the party and watch over Nezuko in Hell.
And she becomes best friends with Shizu Shinazugawa. Which results in Kyogo getting a patented Nezuko Kamado Death Kick where the sun don't shine. Which he deserves.

I made a post ages ago jokingly pointing out that it was strange to have this shot with this line. Why not draw Genya beside his mother? Why have this random man and woman in the background? Why does the woman have a stripped obi - a motif related to the Shinazugawa family? Why is she wearing a purple kimono?
We know Genya had long hair even as a child so he can't be the man in western clothing... Me thinks, hm, it is Kyogo - Genya's father. Yes, they are dressed very nicely to meet a suitor for Genya 🤭

My Kimetsu Academy Au Genya Headcanons

Color - When referring to Genya's boyfriend.
So I wasn't quite sure what to call this but this is my interpretation of the Kimetsu Acadamy Universe.
I like to think that Genya has had difficulties with relationships but not because of his own doings. No. His brother's doings.
Genya has dated 2 or 3 people and every single one of them ran away crying from his home after meeting Sanemi.
At this point, Sanemi has a reputation in the Shinazugawa household for scaring away Genya's dates.
"It's not like I did it on purpose." LiAr
When Genya starts to feel like he's the problem in his failed relationships that's when Sanemi takes a step back.
He feels guilty about it so he decided to be a bit more lenient.
By that he meant not threatening any of Genya's love interests.
When Genya brings someone to the house because he's serious about them that's when all hell breaks lose.
All these dates at that point were ones he was on in Middle School. They weren't all too meaningful just small crushes.
But when Genya told them he had a boyfriend of 2 months.
Yeah. They wanted to meet him.
With Genya's mom's urging he invites his boyfriend over for dinner.
Dude comes in to find 7 glaring eyes directed at him.
(Psst in my interpretations of this Au Kyogo is not dead or a shit father. He has done shitty things but I'll touch up on this is another post.)
So Kyogo, Sanemi, and his five younger siblings are just radiating negative energy. The only saving grace of this dinner was Shizu.
Throughout this dinner, mans was being interrogated by Sanemi and Kyogo.
Didn't help that Kyogo was a police officer.
Honestly, he doesn't have any clue how he survived dinner that night but he wasn't scared away so Genya was happy.

I'm sorry if it sounds a little confusing. I left the boyfriend a bit in the air because I'm not sure who Genya would date. Like I have 2 people in mind and 1 of them is a crack ship.

Sanemi & Giyuu were about 16-17 when they both individually went on an undercover mission in the Kaze no Kuni capital city, they henged/disguised as fake personas Kazura (vaguely derived from kaze, wind) and Nakuu ('to lose')
Kazura is supposed to be darker skinned + two-toned eyes like that of Kazan no Kuni descendants & is sensible and confident but lazy, Nakuu has a hairstyle + facial shape from Mizu no Kuni & an outgoing enthusiastic and pretty sly personality
Giyuu put some particular effort into his disguise and really got into the character he was playing up, he also had fun with it where he could- and thats how he met Kazura. i dont have or really want specifics of why where how or such bc it ruins the imaginative bit of it ig? but while they were on the mission they were meeting up, they both knew the other was disguised but neither pried about it. they fell in love a bit, however it means, but as Nakuu's namesake they were never going to last. it was a mission and when it was done they would leave for home and never meet again.
but then they did :)
at 19 sanemi and giyuu had a political marriage arranged(forced) by Kyogo being a greedy fuck and wanting more trade from the Tomioka, in both the Happy & Broken marriage paths giyuu's the one who notices sanemi acting the same way as kazura in some ways and realizes the two are one in the same. In the Happy marriage its a thought that brings a smile to his face and a jest about how they fell in love twice, in the Broken marriage its only twice the heartbreak after the apathy sanemi regards him with and the loneliness that consumes him

humans evolving to combat demons? das crazy
so i've been thinking. about the shinazugawa family. and how both sanemi and genya each have a special thing about them that seems to help them survive against demons. and that got me really thinking.
humans probably developed certain traits to survive. during the demon slayer canon, demons had been around for at least a thousand years, which is plenty of time to create defense mechanisms against this overpowered apex predator.
so stuff like marechi and the whole demon eating thing are probably some sort of genetic mutation passed down through families, with marechi being the most common given that it's a blood type and not special organs.
this may also apply to mitsuri's increased muscle density; none of her siblings or parents were ever mentioned to have this, so it's likely either a recessive gene or mutation. this ties in to her increased appetite- her body dedicates most of the nutrients and sustenance she eats towards her muscles, so if she doesn't eat enough, she'll starve easily.
it's safe to assume that there's some sort of drawback to these traits, though. including mitsuri's increased danger of starvation. i also like to think that marechis have a natural resistance towards death- you can't kill them as easily as other people. however, they have poor eyesight (sanemi's colorblindness, even though it was trauma induced that doesn't just happen) and are more prone to conditions such as albinism (which sanemi likely has some form of. look at his hair. i'd say kyogo isn't the father but they look way too similar so. albinism it is).
as for the special digestive system/demon eating one, that is nowhere near as common as marechi or enhanced senses, but it's certainly happened a few times before. it was mentioned in the manga that kokushibo had encountered a slayer who did the same. there are likely other similar abilities, and the tradeoff is the lack of innate talent.
innate talent could be considered a dormant gene, and fighting demons can activate it in most people who have it. it was mentioned in regards to genya, who said he lacked it and it was the reason he couldn't use breathing styles. innate talent involves increased reflexes, the abillity to use total concentration breathing, and requiring less sleep. this particular trait is usually associated with enhanced senses and unusual hair and/or eye colors. some of these people have the potential to unlock the demon slayer mark. those with innate talent are also less likely to scar, which is why almost every character in that show has perfect skin.
enhances senses... where do i begin. i mean, they're observed in various people throughout the series, the prime examples being the main characters- the "kamaboko squad". those with enhanced senses are a subgroup of the innate talent group- you can have the first without the second but not the second without the first. however, they're also seen with many "survivor" characters- those who have survived the impossible or are the only ones left. these were simply developed to help evade and combat demons, and the people who have them are more likely to move up the ranks.
well. it's time to discuss yoriichi. the world really said "oh look a child to test our new invention on" and threw the demon slayer mark at him. he has innate talent, though it seems to be the most prominent in him as he not only has the potential to develop the demon slayer mark, he always had it and the power it granted. yoriichi never had any descendants, so this type of natural power was never really seen again. yoriichi was the first to truly utilize innate talent to the fullest, creating breathing styles that suited everyone's individual skills (and enhanced senses, if they had them). he really jumpstarted the whole shebang, honestly.
i'm done writing for now but i might make a follow-up/sequel to this sometime. idk.
