hob can only follow the rules of the court as he understands them but he asks as many times as can possibly be polite what he did wrong and how he can make amends and he is not given an answer and all he has to go off is the knowledge that he made rue cry and that rue stood behind wuvvy at the duel and his last interaction with them was hurting them accidentally and he has no context he has no fucking context for why wuvvy is challenging him for all he knows rue could have put her up to it because they’re still wounded by what hob said he doesn’t know that rue was deeply touched by his apology and that this is about their caught feelings and terror of their own vulnerability he doesn’t know a damn thing he is just trying to do right by them

i've always loved this scene between kim and korn
at no point does it seem like a conversation between father and son. rather it's a conversation between two opponents.
but korn doesn't seem to see kim as a genuine threat (the whole season he doesn't seem to be doing anything to hinder kim's investigation or bring him back into the fold), but he does deeply distrust him. he doesn't offer more information than kim already has (kinn has a new bodyguard. he used to be a bartender), goes on the defense when kim pries more into his motivations ("why? are you interested?") and the second kim leaves, he checks the drawer kim snooped in.
i think it's an amazing way to show the dynamic between the two. now if only kim's investigation had actually gone somewhere.

hi. so i saw this gifset on the dash, and it's entirely too late for me to be awake doing this but i am now spiraling over kim's outfits. so anyway here goes nothing 👍
(below the cut is my descent into madness. you have been warned)
now when i saw these gifs i began musing in the tags, as one does, so here they are for context:

so once i started thinking i found it impossible to stop (as often is the case with this gay mafia business) and i decided to go through and look at each of kim's outfits. for science
now i know the fandom has looked at wardrobe stuff before, so it's very possible that someone has gone through this already. BUT! i'm already in way too deep here so i'm just gonna go ahead with this dfsdhgjsdf
kim's wardrobe is, to me at least, very interesting. you get a mix of things, depending on how he is presenting himself. for example:

it's hard to differentiate between these styles at times, and i think that's purposeful bc kim appears to dart between personas: beloved singer, distant son, solo detective... the list goes on
so first things first! i was largely right about the jacket thing! in most every one of his outfits, he has some kind of jacket on. however, the first time we actually see him without a jacket is actually in this scene where he gifts chay with the guitar:

okay so i was wrong about that. i think the jacketless look is definitely intentional on his part – to help him seem unguarded, especially since he is giving a gift – but the first instance is still not the scene i thought it was. however!!! there is one thing i'm really excited about, and it's about the next thought i had in the tags...
every time kim wears white it relates to chay.
now you may be thinking, wren. is that really the case, or is this claim a bit of a stretch? and now i answer.... *gestures helplessly* some of this may be a stretch! but i can explain, and i will!
let's look at the instances of kim in white then, shall we?

this, to me, is a quintessential wik look. far more approachable than the full black leather, and even his typical sleuthing fits (although a lot of it is in his mannerisms tbh, remember that withering look he gave big?). now this one miiiight be a stretch... but to me it still fits my thesis bc i feel like kim dressed this way for chay on purpose so he would look more like one of his peers. just my two cents

first sleuthing scene where white is involved. here, kim is investigating porsche's (and therefore, chay's) parents, and he gets a call from chay, which he ignores. everything and nothing in this scene is about chay; he's not in it but he actually is. (now if you're thinking, wren, that doesn't make any sense... you are not the only one. idk what i'm talking about. let's carry on)

our boy in songwriting mode! worth noting that, with the combination of the shirt and the pants, there is more white going on here than usual. here, instead of avoiding chay, he actively remembers him and even looks a little.. fond? *gasp*

the confession scene :') this one is particularly interesting bc it's the same jacket kim wears when he's in full dark mafia mode (more on that later). like most instances of kim in white, it's a dark jacket with white peeking through, and this scene might be the best instance of that. he reaches back when chay offers his feelings, and opens the door to.. a relationship? idk but something with emotions

NOW. here is the look that made me start this deranged analysis in the first place. not only is it sans mafia jacket, but it is a full white shirt! he cuddles chay on the couch! they talk (?) about their feelings (?) ... well i mean, he's clearly having a hard time being vulnerable, but at least there is progress being made :)

finally! the Human Shirt™ !! about as on-the-nose as you can get, really. while wearing a white shirt that reads "human" and no jacket, kim has, demonstrably, his most human moment in the show: he breaks down crying over chay. cue jeff acting his heart out while his own song plays in the background (why don't you stayyyy~)

it's a flashback scene, but we see kim watching chay in the studio. he's mostly guarded, but a little white comes through. good stuff

putting these together bc they are two different moments but the same outfit. 1) kim learns that porsche and chay have disappeared, and 2) he contemplates the state of things after korn's "death". i put the family moment here too especially bc of what he tells kinn: "you don't have time to think about other stuff anymore", basically "eyes on the prize". now perhaps this only applies to his older brother, but in the case that we apply it to him.. we can't really be sure whether he is sticking to his personal main goal or breaking from his own advice. i suspect the former bc at this point, he seems to see chay as his main priority, despite his family's situation (again idk if this makes sense, but just. go with it. lol)

dare i say? the sexiest example?? no mafia jacket, full white shirt, and yet, unlike the other white shirt instances, this one isn't about his emotional vulnerability with chay. no no, here he takes out six guys without much difficulty, in an attempt to protect chay (and then he leaves the bodies, but still! the love is there!)

in conclusion... idk what i am talking about, and frankly, if you are still reading this post i am very impressed lol. but yay kim's clothes and motifs, fashion as a disarming tactic, and white as a color of vulnerability!

Thoughts on this parallel.
When Pete said he had nothing left. He ment his humanity , dignity or self respect. He was empty and had nothing left for Vegas to take from him.
Vegas meant those things too . But not for Pete to take from him. For him to give.
I think he also meant he had nothing of value to give Pete, he no longer had the moniker of being the eldest son of the minor family. He had no home or power to give Pete.
I don't think he thought his love was of enough value to give Pete and have him stay. That's why he told him if he ran, he would be alright with that.
He was giving Pete an out. A chance to run away from this worthless man who had nothing to give. Because in Vegas's world, people only stay if you have something of value to give them like power, protection or money.
But not Pete. Pete stays because love is enough for him. It holds the most value.
He isn't a man who puts stock in things like power and money. As his tattoo says "There is no legacy so rich as honesty" Pete is honest with his own feelings. He's following his heart and knows Vegas is laid bare for him to see. A man with nothing left to give but his love is as honest as it gets.

i truly and wholeheartedly believe that brennan sat down with the full intention of making an autistic goblin and i believe how he described hob’s need to translate social situations into things he understands better (the usage of the military map) made it very clear he thought about this as an established trait beforehand. also the way he describes hob as feeling out of place among goblins and being so different from them, and even being viewed by the other goblins as strange and “freakish”, which to me clearly implies neurodiversity. there’s no reason for me to be saying this i know it’s not really a debate as to whether or not hob is autistic, i just absolutely love the idea that brennan did this, even if it the implication that hob was autistic wasn’t intentional.

#you all know my feelings on why did you follow me already - hello, i don't, please share with the class :(
the nice thing about posts from last august being circulated is that I get to inflict my thoughts onto a whole new group of people <3
so i'm pretty sure what I was referring to was this post (which later became this fantastic gifset)
basically that pete and vegas's main interactions started with pete being ordered to follow vegas, which then becomes pete following vegas again and again of his own volition, using his own agency, making his own choice. eventually leading him to the poolside.
it makes vegas asking "why did you follow me?" so much more loaded. because, from the second he hears pete's voice vegas knows he isn't going to shoot. that's why he screams like he does, his release, his escape has been taken from him because he knows he won't leave pete behind if pete asks him to stay.
so "why did you follow me" means why did he follow him to the pool when he could have let him shoot himself instead. but it also means why did he follow him back into the safehouse when he could have ran and vegas would have let him. it means why why did it have to be pete sent to follow him in the first place. why, in the great, cosmic scheme of things, was it pete sent to spy on him and set off this chain of events that led to him finding the only person who could crack him open and leave him vulnerable and bruised but seen and whole, the only person he could love like this, the only person that could make him stay.
why would pete take the agency that's been denied to him his entire life and use it to continue following vegas. why would he continue to choose him, one of the people that took his choices away from him?
eventually he gets the answer. as pete figures it out, from "I don't even know" in the safehouse to "because i'm hungry" by the pool and finally "I just want to follow my heart" in the hospital.
when pete chases him down to the pool it is not as a main family bodyguard following orders and not as a prisoner making dubious decisions. he's just pete. who wants and needs to save his heart.

i love this shit. i absolutely LOVE this shit. the betrayal of it? the honest love at the core of it that doesn't make it better or easier, just makes it more complicated, more messy, more painful?
rue believes in a fairytale kind of love, a true love that cures all ills and overcomes all barriers. as we’ve seen with the wager, they believe that love is always the answer. and as per their sabotage of the marriage, they believe that love is sacred and not to be sullied by such things as politics. so, it follows. rue cannot accept hob's love unless he loves them with all of his heart.
meanwhile hob cannot set aside the love he has for his court, because they are his family. rue has never had a family and feels no loyalty to their court. rue has just turned down a "promotion" (violent in nature as it may be) while hob has accepted one.
"does he love me more than his duty to his court? does he love me more than being a major?" NO. but your courts are not the same. so that doesn't mean what you think it does.
also like. rue has been on some level taking wuvvy's love for granted all these years. wuvvy, their only friend and confidante. wuvvy, whose love and whose duty are one and the same. wuvvy whose devotion to her duties are synonymous with her duties to rue. OF COURSE rue has a warped sense of what love is.
“you know i love you, right?”
“of course.” “that will be all.” only after that do we get “i love you too.”
rue thinks that love is a feeling. they do not see that for hob, and to an extent for wuvvy, love is what's left when the feeling has burned away - not a fleeting state of feeling, but a way of being and acting. love is duty. love is trust. love is choice.
i’m not saying hob or wuvvy’s definition of love is better. giving yourself totally to other people until there is nothing left, no room for your own independent desires, is not healthy love either. but i am saying that these two extremes conflict with one another. hob believes that love is fundamentally selfless. rue believes it’s fundamentally selfish. surprisingly, it’s wuvvy who has a mix of the two - wanting what’s best for rue, but stopping their confessed feelings from reaching hob for her own reasons. basically, there is no version of love that is inherently healthy and true and just. love, like magic, is a fickle thing.
they do not understand one another. they never have - rue, hob, and wuvvy too. they see themselves in each another even when what they're actually seeing is a mirror image - flipped, reversed. ultimately they're separated by a pane of glass, and if they really want it, they’ll have to force themselves through to mutual understanding with a lot of blunt force. watch out for broken glass.
i, for one, think this is the juiciest and most delicious shit i have ever seen. i am holding them in my hands so gently. i am biting and gnawing on them. i am savouring every second.

i've seen a lot of posts talking about how rue is right. but, to put it bluntly, they're not considering hob's perspective at all.
they're projecting their own experiences onto him and expecting the same actions as they took, which is extremely unfair to him.
they took the similarities they saw and romanticized them to the point that they ignored all of the ways that they're different, and then they threw that fact in his face like it was, somehow, his fault?
they knew that he is, before anything else, a soldier of the goblin court. he has fought and bled and watched his fellow soldiers die for the establishment upon which his entire identity and sense of self is built.
he made it clear earlier that day that he still is willing to suffer immensely for his court, that he can't even begin to think about what life without courts would look like.
he had said many times what the broken engagement meant to him personally and as an agent of his court. how his entire mission at the bloom was to find out what happened. and they got upset that he was angry and hurt that it turned out to have been them all the time? when he's made it very clear that he does not share their ideals about romantic love being more important than anything else?
they seem to have not considered at all how enormous of an ask they're making of him.
it's not about whether he loves being major more than he loves them. it's that choosing to put himself above his duties to his court and defy a direct order means abandoning all of his beliefs and values.
and that's not a decision that's easy for someone like him to make.
the fact that they don't acknowledge that at all means they don't see and respect hob in his entirety, and that's not what healthy, true love is.
in practically the same breath, they told him they love him and threw the parts of him that they don't like in his face.

oh my god, tell us more (about the arm tankhun fake dating fic in your head), please! :D
OKAY so the concept is. about 6 months post-canon, the main and minor families are invited to the destination wedding of one of their allies from a hugely powerful mafia family - it's a few nights staying on a private tropical island, and as a respect/trust/hospitality thing, it would be considered really inappropriate for guests to bring more than one or two bodyguards per group.
so Tankhun is like “well then obviously I can’t go?” because while he is now much better at leaving the house, he’s not quite ‘get on a plane and fly to a random island for several days of intense socialisation with incredibly dangerous near-strangers without a single Trusted Bodyguard’ levels of better.
he’s talking to Chay about it and Chay's like “yeah, it's kind of fucked up that everyone gets a +1 but not a bodyguard. how would anyone even know if your +1 was your bodyguard?!” and Tankhun's like “.....Chay you're a genius. Arm, I need you to be my wedding date.”
commence the fake dating shenanigans! they ‘reveal’ their secret, long-term relationship to the entire family, and then they’ve got to pretend to be a couple in front of everyone while Arm actually works as Tankhun’s bodyguard. as the only other person who knows their relationship isn’t real, Chay is helping to mastermind the entire operation. what Chay also knows is that Khun does actually have very real and Not Fake feelings for Arm - and you can be sure he’s going to be a menace about it.
luckily, Khun is being just as much of a menace in return - the wedding is the first time Kim and Chay have been in the same room since… well, everything, and Tankhun has watched them both silently pine for each other for long enough. background KimChay reconciliation era my beloved!
and so the usual fake dating antics ensue! lots of pining… plenty of acting out intimacy while wishing it was genuine… Chay putting them in so many Situations… lines slowly blurring between what is part of the act and what is real… and. obviously. there was only one bed.

something i’ve noticed is that while kinn is the one who likes to initiate conversations and hash things out, porsche is the one who likes to give verbal affirmation once the relationship is established. for example. he would say things like “last night was amazing,” “he is jealous that we are in love,” “you look great,” “smile, that’s when you’re cutest,” “you are really adorable,” “feels so good,” “so kind,” etc. most of these lil comments kinn doesn’t comment back, he usually just agrees or smiles. this is interesting bc porsche seems to put more weight on words of affirmation and acts of service (see: porsche always fixing kinn’s hair, being his bodyguard etc.), while kinn puts more weight on physical touch and quality time (see: kinn kissing him when he says “you never trust me” in ep 10, mutual masturbation scene / staying handcuffed to porsche in the woods etc.) as ways of expressing love/giving reassurance.
let me elaborate:
kinn often initiates conversations (see: asking porsche if he is okay multiple times, “are we good now?”) to clear the air — because his way of thinking is efficient and organized. porsche often avoids these confrontations and would prefer to forgive and forget (see: kinn apologizing for “that night” multiple times in the woods but porsche not really wanting to talk about it). this is because porsche is not used to talking about his feelings (i.e. not having parents to talk to, not wanting to burden porchay, having to put feelings aside to get things done etc.) or having them be important/listened to.
so, porsche uses words of affirmation to establish feelings because he was so starved of that for most of his life. mirroring this, kinn is also not used to verbal affirmation from loved ones. so when porsche offers this — he often doesn’t know how to respond, but is pleasantly surprised.
porsche also uses acts of service to express love, as no one has ever taken care of him. he takes care and protects the people he loves, often sacrificing his own feelings. mirroring this, nobody has sacrificed for kinn, either. he has always been the one making the sacrifices (inheriting the mafia job despite being the middle child, putting aside his love life and freedom to do a job he doesn’t want), and nobody has ever cared for him beyond what he can do for them (his father, his people, tawan).
so when porsche performs acts of service, (such as taking him out on a date/carefully planning, fixing his hair, coming back to save him, offering to cut off his hand, etc.) — this is completely new to kinn. he is used to people doing things for him out of obligation and duty. but with porsche, he rarely does anything he doesn’t want to do. he does these things for kinn by his own choice.
(see: porsche trying to “seduce” kinn by pretending he’s sick so kinn can look after him. this is an example of what porsche sees as love. taking care of someone.)
in return, kinn performs acts of service for porsche. he lets go of porsche in the woods, takes the bullet for him, gives his lucky gun to him, lets him borrow his phone to call porchay, gives him his own phone, pushes porsche out of the way of a bullet and cleans his wound, etc.
in contrast, kinn uses physical touch to anchor and communicate his feelings because he was touch starved for most of his life. the only touch he got was from callboys, and it wasn’t exactly loving or gentle. because he is so used to the trivialities of words, he often resorts to touch to speak louder. porsche responds to this bc he is equally touch-starved and lacked physical affection all his life.
additionally, kinn also uses quality time as a way to express love. he doesn’t take off the handcuffs because he knows he can only get this time with porsche if they are stuck together away from everything else. “we know each other so much better this way.” kinn decides to make it up to porsche by going over to his house and forcing himself to awkwardly sit with him and his drunk friends for hours. “if i didn’t care about you, why am i sitting here?” (see: kinn not being annoyed with all of porsche’s trivial demands on their date, instead looking fond. bc he doesn’t care how he spends time with porsche. as long as he is with porsche, he is happy.)
back to my original point. kinn likes to initiate conversations and gets straight to the point, especially when checking in on porsche. (e.g. “what now? [about us]” “are you okay with it? [kissing]” “are you okay? anyway damn. i just find it interesting how their languages of love differ yet they begin to incorporate and integrate the others’ into them — and how they respond to the other in their own language. this is their mode of communication. perhaps others won’t understand, but they do. and that’s what matters.
