Stress
words: 878
Summary: Ingo comes home from work upset. You try to figure out why that is.
Pairing: Ingo/Reader
Ingo had come home earlier than expected. You were still preparing dinner when you heard the door open and your husband step in. His coat was shrugged off and hung up on the coat rack while his shoes were removed. He walked in, going right past you without a single word, and crashed onto the couch. Turning the stew low to simmer, you carefully placed the lid on it and moved to go check on the twin. His hat was laid on the coffee table while he lied with his stomach pressed to the cushions. Ingo's face was turned away from you so that you could not observe his expression (not that it would have helped much, admittedly).
Sitting down near his head, you threaded your fingers through his hair softly. He hummed from the contact and shifted a little. “Ingo, love, what's wrong?” you asked gently. It was rare to see him act like this, usually much better at hiding his feelings. The easiest assumption was something at work had stressed him out, but you wondered just what it was. “Hey… Lie your head in my lap, let me help you,” you demanded of him. He was silent for a moment while making no moves. When suddenly, he moved and pressed his head on your lap. Ingo had shifted to his other side, so now you could see his expression properly. His eyes were shut and mouth stuck in his usual frown.
Your fingers massaged his scalp while he lay there comfortably. Watching his shoulders drop, a tension in his body seemed to lighten slightly. Ingo was so strange at times. He was probably so used to having Emmet read his every emotion without so much as a work needed to be spoken. While you had certainly got better, you were not quite at the level of 'identical twin who has spent their entire life at your side' just yet. This was a case where you needed him to tell you. “… Ingo?” you tried again. He hummed. Lifting himself from your lap, he sat up. His soft, pale eyes stared at you while he coughed awkwardly. You giggled at his nervous actions and hugged him. The warmth of his body soaked into your bones, while your ear listened to the slow beating of his heart.
His arms came around you, and he pressed a soft kiss to your head. “I apologise for worrying you, my dear,” he spoke calmly, “I simply upset from something foolish.” You needed to know now. Pulling away from his chest, you cupped his cheeks. Such a handsome man would be cursed to frown, wouldn't he? Heavy, dark circles hung under his eyes in contrast to his pale skin. Had he been sleeping properly? What could have been bothering him so badly? How had you failed to notice? “What's wrong, Ingo? I'm your spouse… I only want to help you,” you tried to convince him.
He took a deep breath. It seemed he was in contemplation over whether he should tell you about what was bothering him. Hands grasped yours and removed them from his cheeks. Thumbs rubbed into them as he closed his eyes. “I admit this is ridiculous and something I should be more mature over, but…” another breath was taken as he spoke, “I saw this family at the station. The mother and father on either side of their son, holding his hands. He must have been no older than seven… They all appeared so happy.”
“Ingo…” you whispered, seeing tears welling in his eyes as he averted his gaze from you.
“All I could think is here I am as a thirty-two-year-old with no child…” he admitted, teeth pressing together alongside his brows, “Ah, I'm awful, darling… Why do I feel like this?” You leaned forward to press a kiss to his cheek. Nuzzling your nose against his, you pulled him close. Ingo cried for a few moments into your shoulder, hiccuping and sobbing. Had this been bothering him that much? Why hadn't he spoken about it sooner? You both had been dating for three years and married for two. If he had wanted to start a family, you would have had no reservations.
“It's okay, babe,” you rubbed his back and reassured him, “Do you want to start a family?” The question froze him. You could still feel the tears wetly staining your shirt, but his sounds stopped.
“… I do… Terribly, I do,” he whispered into your shoulder, “I want nothing more than to be a father…”
Poor Ingo… Had he assumed you did not? You were not opposed to it at all. Squeezing him to you, you heard him groan a little from the pressure. It was hard to believe that some people accepted his work act for how he truly was. He may have kept the Gear Station in line with his loud, booming voice and authoritative nature, but at home he wanted nothing more than to relax and loved. A hard shell to expose its gooey interior. Brushing your fingers through his hair one last time, you pressed another kiss to his ear.
“You know…” you spoke softly, “I'd love to have a kid.”
You didn't miss how a bright crimson overtook his pale complexion.

People can think what they want but I’ve seen the Clan merch again and how out of place Ingo looks and I feel like that he’s not truly and fully happy in Hisui.
Though I believe that he would never admit that. How could he admit that he doesn’t truly feel at home and happy in front of the Pearl Clan, his Saviors? I feel that would go against his morals especially when he’s got nothing to back up his feelings. He literally has no memories of his previous life and he also feels confused by what little he’s got left.
We don’t know how long he’s been there but how he’s still clinging to what little he has left, the memories and the pieces of clothing he still wears (I believe that tie and shirt could also be around somewhere still but given the cold weather he prefers to wear the thick and warm tunic to better protect himself from the cold) he is in his own way homesick. There is a sort of comfort and longing in the few memories he gets back, the way he clings to Emmets words even if he doesn’t really understand their meaning and the way he still questions his purpose tells me this guy needs to go home again to get back to his old self.
I dunno seeing the merch and after reading your recent fic gives me a lot of feelings about this topic. I’m glad he has Akari in your fics. A source of kindness and comfort in Hisui. I really hope Ingo learns to talk about his feelings of homesickness with Akari. She might be a child but she understands him better with that than anyone else. And she can give him the words of comfort he sometimes needs to hear as well!
Tumblr media
The Pearl Clan’s card really cemented that for me too. It’s what pushed me to finish my WIP for Comfort Him, as well as several lines he says during his time with you in the highlands, and at the training grounds.
It really shows he feels out of place, is still looking for his purpose, and feels incomplete - and that’s not entirely due to his lost memories. He holds onto the scraps he has and keeps them in his heart, and has been doing so for who-knows-how-long. That was all he had before the protag came along and helped him unlock more memories.
He is homesick for a home he can’t fully remember. He needs to go home :(
AND YES ANON! Ingo is just as lucky to have Akari around, as she is to have him around. They both help each other - Ingo helps her navigate this new, foreign world he’s come to be familiar with, and Akari helps him recall the old, former world they were both torn from.
In Comfort Him, it’s clear that Ingo was keeping his emotions in even if he didn’t realize it. He needs to let it out sometimes too, and Akari is probably the only one he can actually do it with WHO ALSO entirely sympathizes and understands what he’s missing. I’d love to write a follow-up fic where they both process these things a little more ^^

Last Chapter •||• Next Chapter
Dinner felt like a return to form for parent and daughter after the awkwardness. Kit talked excitedly about her day and how she couldn't wait for summer to finally begin. RJ in turn told Kit about more pleasant stories about his life as an adventurer and his former home of Apocalypseburg and Bricksburg. They went to the movie rental store next to the pizzeria and grabbed a movie for the two of them to watch, then headed home to finish homework and watch the chosen cartoon classic.
While the movie was playing, a generic guitar riff sounded from RJ's pocket. He moved to the kitchen to take the call, excusing himself to his little girl despite her focus on the show.
"Hello?" After a period of silence, RJ spoke again. "Calm down, babe. Whatever is wrong, I can fix it." It was this phrase that caught Kit's attention. She poked her head from behind the couch to listen in to her father's half of the conversation.
"So Unitron's decorated chief does want to drag me through a long trial? I know. I know. It doesn't mean he's -!... I have an entire kingdom that's willing to vouch for me. You can pick anyone off the street of the Unicapital." He paused. "I'm not going to Awntawp… by the way, Kit knows…. Yeah, she found out at school today. It'll make a discussion about a trial much easier… Please don't worry that pretty little head of yours. I'll be fine. They need Unikitty’s permission ta land in the Unicapital. He can't get me unless I leave… You know I love you…. Hang on. Gettin' another call. It's probably Emmet, since he would have been in the same meeting as you." RJ pressed the screen of his phone to change the call over.
"Hey, Em!... Yeah, Richie told me… He's scared, too… Don't panic! I'll tell you what I told him: I have an entire kingdom that's willing to vouch for me. This also happened a really long time ago. He doesn't have a legal leg to stand on to throw me in prison… See? If the queen has to write off on it anyway, the most that's probably going to happen is she's going to have to talk to me in person. You and I both know that a real conversation has been long overdue… I gotta go. I want to make sure that my daughter understands what I'm talking about, considering I know she's listening." With the acknowledgment of her eavesdropping verbalized, Kit turned her attention back to the movie, which was quickly paused by her father. He sat next to her on the couch and turned to her, face more serious than she had ever seen it before.
"I know you heard what I was telling your uncle and father. And yes it is about what you found out today. Sometimes, timing is… It makes you wonder if the bra… Man Upstairs has some literary timing." RJ shook his head. "Nothing is going to happen to me. More than likely, they're going to make me go to Syspocalypstar to present my case before Queen Wa'nabi and the chief of Unitron and…" He sighed. "There is a chance that they might send me to some place far away for a while. I'm not going to lie about that to you."
"Where would you go if they make you leave?" Kit tilted her head slightly, her horn flopping down to one side.
"There is a galaxy out there, a place called the Dryar System. It's a dark and desolate system, the most notable planet of it being a desert wasteland. A planet was found there a few years back that you may remember from the news reports: Awntawp. Unitron took it over and it became a prison, a place for only the biggest threats to the United Systems go. That might be my home for a while, if nothing goes well. I'm sure they'll let you visit, but I wouldn't want you to." RJ watched Kit's reaction and held her close to him when she looked like she was going to cry.
"Can Big Sister help you?" She spoke through warm tears.
"She might be able to. I know she will hear about this from any number of people. I expect her to be monitoring the skies for Unitron ships." RJ got to his feet now, walking towards the nearest window to watch the skies himself. Kit, after fishing out some tissues from her bag, rushed to her father to hug him, but no lights showed up in the night sky as the two watched.
It took what felt like a lifetime for RJ to check the clock. "Kitten, it's late. You still have school tomorrow.” There was a deep sorrow in the man's voice now, as if he was already mourning the worst timeline's outcome.
"Dad? Please don't leave me." The fear of losing her father left a heavy pit in Kit's stomach. The feeling that knowing her father's possible fate gave her made the anger of not knowing the truth of how he got there feel like a lesser issue.
"I will never. Kit, I will always come back to you." RJ led his child to her bedroom.
"Promise?" She stopped just under the doorframe, watery eyes looking up to her dad.
"I promise. Cross my heart." He knelt down and kissed his daughter's forehead. She nodded after a long moment of staring, giving her father as crushing a hug as a girl her size could. With a yawn, she disappeared into her bedroom and closed the door behind her. RJ stayed for just a moment longer, eyes boring into the wood. He whispered a silent prayer to beings he knew never were listening that things would stop getting worse before heading up to his room to get ready for sleep.
In the early hours of the morning, while the humans slept in the A-frame cabin, a signal came from the fist shaped ship in orbit around the planet. The signal held a single message, a single desperate plea: SOS. This plea was sent over and over again, waiting for someone who could accept the signal to hear, understand, and act. By the time the signal was even sent however, it was already too late.
When RJ awoke, he immediately looked at his alarm clock, which showed that it was almost 10 in the morning. He didn't remember his alarm clock going off, but he also didn't remember if he set it. He rushed down the stairs to wake his daughter, but saw she was missing. With a panic, he rushed to the house phone, where he noticed a note on soft, almost pastel pink paper on the refrigerator door. He grabbed the note from off of the door and subconsciously noted that it was written on the back of a flyer for a sale at some store in the local mall. The first thing he noted was that the handwriting was his husband's. That meant that he did get home sometime when he was asleep. The note read:
RJ,
It will take a while for Unitron to reach Meraki. We do still have time to discuss a legal strategy, which will include hiring a lawyer. I got Catherine ready for school and took her. I should be home soon.
Dr Fox has granted you a leave of absence. She said that something occurred at the office that afforded you this leave. You will need to let me know what this incident was so I can have that be investigated.
Richard xoxo
The words caused a wave of relief to crash over him. Kit was at school. With his nerves calmed, he could hear a steady beep coming from his study. Three dots lol. Three dashes. Three dots. S. O. S. His radio was only tuned to one signal: the signal coming from The Rexcelsior.
"What now?" He muttered to himself with a muddy mix of fear and exasperation as he rushed to the garage to master build a ship that could get him up to see what the signal meant.

*cracks knuckles* aight besties i woke up this morning having thoughts about a vague AU that probably has lots of plotholes but i gotta combine the two Loves of My Life TM
After the events of PLA, Akari and Ingo finally have the chance to go home. Except Ingo isn’t actually able to go home, because Arceus tells him he needs Ingo somewhere else. Something about people needing a “guiding light” and well, a conductor is the next best thing right? Arceus gets so confused with these human things sometimes….
So Akari gets yote back to Sinnoh Present while Ingo goes off on another Quest For God. Meanwhile Emmet, who has been searching for his brother this entire time, finally gets a lead. Some woman named Nayru says she knows where he is and how to get there! Win-win! Emmet, tired of hearing “maybe a legendary will have mercy,” takes her up on her offer despite the oddness. She kept saying something about a guiding light but honestly, Emmet could care less. He just wants his brother back and if he has to “go on a noble quest” for that, he will. As soon as Emmet agrees to the quest, Nayru conjures a blue light. Everything goes black.
Ingo and Emmet both end up in Hyrule, Ingo with survival skills and Emmet with a mission. They are both tasked with being a “guiding light” for the land of Hyrule as it waits for its hero to end the Calamity.
im still ironing out everything but essentially submas meets botw, they reunite and maybe they help save the world along the way. im debating on giving them magic as a buff but idk haha

Do you have any headcanons on how Emmet would react to Ingo and Volos relationship?
I'd imagine if Emmet sent himself to the past to find his brother he'd probably disapprove of Volo, Volo is pretty suspicious on his own but if he found out he's the reason his brother is there he'd most likely wouldn't understand how Ingo not only forgave him but is also in a relationship with him.
Even before Emmet found out he most likely already felt something was off about Volo
This got long again
Anytime Ingo starts to flirt around with ANYONE, Emmet is on guard. They're both attractive and get plenty of attention from men and women alike. Emmet isn't terribly interested in that sort of thing, but Ingo has been known to, very very rarely, flirt back when someone comes onto him (in his own strange way.) If someone is particularly persistent he might go out for coffee with them, but things never really progress past that, and Ingo has wound up terribly dissapointed and a tad bit hurt multiple times because of it.
The last thing Emmet wants is for Ingo to start to catch feelings for someone only to have his heart broken, so he becomes VERY protective whenever Ingo starts dating.
Assuming that Volo cracked and admitted he was involved in the mess that lead to Ingo being pulled into Hisui, it probably would have taken Ingo quite some time to forgive Volo. He doesn't remember what he lost, what his life was like before Hisui, and Volo swears on everything that he knows and loves that he didn't mean to cause Ingo's situation. It was a long series of, at this point very unfortunate, incidents and bad choices that lead them to where they are today. Volo, banned from Jubilife, on very shaky grounds with the two clans, entirely unsure what his future holds and whether or not Ingo will still be in it.
Volo gives Ingo his space, he'd wait as long as he had to for his love, even if Ingo never forgave him. Ingo gladly takes the time to think on what he has learned. He's actually the one who talks the clans down from just straight up exiling Volo completely, and it's while he's making these negotiations that he realizes just how painfully much he misses Volo, and that in this strange, unfamiliar world he had been such a bright light. He'd give just about anything to have him by his side again, to just go back to the way things were before.
Once vague peace has been made with the Diamond and Pearl clans on Volo's behalf, Ingo sets out to find him. They cross paths in the Highlands of course, and Ingo sits Volo down and they talk. It's a long conversation on a longer path of healing, but for all his mistakes, Volo admits that the biggest one was not recognizing how much of a blessing Arceus had bestowed upon him by bringing Ingo into his life.
They part ways that night with warm feelings and hope for the future. There is still work to be done, but they each rest easy knowing that they will see the other again soon.
Years pass by from the incident and people move past it. Ingo and Volo settle in, and despite their time apart for their jobs, it's almost domestic. Ingo is happier than he's ever been there in Hisui, and Volo can imagine spending the rest of his life with Ingo.
Then Emmet shows up.
I think if Emmet showed up to Hisui and found that Ingo was in a relationship with Volo, it would happen well past the dating stage of their relationship. They would have been together for a while at that point. He might not even find out about it from the two of them.
Emmet: I am Emmet! I am looking for my brother! Do you know where Ingo is?
Irida: Well, Volo's in town, so I imagine Ingo's likely staying in his tent tonight. They've been glued to each other every chance they get ever since they got together...
Emmet: What?
When Ingo and Emmet finally see each other, the flood of memories the appearance of his brother causes completely overwhelms Ingo. The twins spend the first hour or so reunited just half clung to one another, all but babbling about a lot of things that don't really make sense to anyone but them. All they're aware of is that this is Emmet, he says he is Ingo's brother, and he seems to have come from the same place that Ingo had.
Volo keeps his distance, just watching with a few members of the Pearl clan. He's simultaneously overjoyed for Ingo and the fact that he can finally remember who he was and where he came from, and absolutely terrified for what this might mean.
Volo feels like hiding, but before he can, Ingo and Emmet have calmed down a little, and Ingo is bringing Emmet over to him, seeming eager to introduce them to one another. He can see the warmth still in Ingo's eyes, and his heart beats a little faster. Ingo still loves him, Volo can see it, feel it.
So can Emmet. To him it's obvious just by the way Ingo is acting, the way he is looking at this stranger, Ingo's so head over heels for this man. His alarm bells are immediately blaring, but he does his very best to keep a friendly smile as Ingo introduces him to this man, Volo, his long term partner.
Volo is friendly enough, seems well composed, and clearly he’s been with Ingo for quite some time at this point if what he hears is true. There’s just something about him that feels off though, and with how messed up this whole situation has been for so long now, Emmet doesn’t feel like he can trust Volo as far as he can throw him.
But it’s hard to deny the way they look at each other...
After that Volo keeps a respectable distance while the two catch up, while Ingo does his very best to explain what exactly happened and how he ended up there in the first place to Emmet, and if he knows what Volo did caused his time traveling incident, then he would undoubtedly share that with him. Emmet is of course pissed off beyond all belief to find out that Volo was the cause of all this, whether he intended to pull Ingo into the past or not, and the fact that Ingo is with Volo absolutely baffles him.
Ingo tells him of how the two met, how much Volo helped him and was a friendly face in the beginning when it was the hardest for him to adjust. How they had become friends slowly, and that Volo had brought happiness into his life when he had been lost and confused and, though he wouldn’t admit it to pretty much anyone other than Emmet, honestly quite scared. Volo had helped him find his place there in Hisui, and make a home there.
Emmet listens to everything Ingo has to say, and it leaves him feeling terribly... conflicted. He’s never heard Ingo talk that way about anyone.
.
Later that evening Volo is approached by Emmet, and he’s immediately put on edge by the smiling man. He looks so much like Ingo, but there’s this palpable mood about him that puts Volo into fight-or-flight mode, but neither of those are valid options right then, so he just stays put as Emmet takes a seat beside him, away from the other villagers and prying ears. He has no idea what to expect, so he says nothing and gives Emmet a moment to figure out what he wants to say to him.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity to Volo, Emmet speaks up.
“I am Emmet. I know Ingo better than he knows himself in some ways. He’s very happy here.” Emmet says, his voice quiet, and he keeps his eyes lock ahead on the view as the sun sets ahead.
“...I would hope so, we’ve tried our best to make him as comfortable here as we can. The people of the Pearl Clan are kind, they’ve treated him well, I promise.” Volo starts slowly, hesitant, but it’s clear Emmet didn’t come here just to make small talk. “I feel a ‘but’ coming from you though.” He adds, and Emmet nods.
“Ingo doesn’t belong here.” Emmet said with a small shrug. “I came here to try and bring him home, to our time.”
That much had been obvious to Volo, but damn if it didn’t still hurt to actually hear it from Emmet’s mouth. He wanted to take Ingo away, back to a time that was likely so far away from where they were now. He couldn’t begin to imagine how long he would have to wait to potentially see Ingo again, because the idea of waiting even a short time seemed painful.
“But...” Emmet continued, pulling Volo from the painful thoughts slowly beginning to overwhelm him. “He is verrry happy here.... with you....I don’t understand, but I see that much.” He admitted, a low, bitter tone in his voice as he spoke. That fact didn’t make Emmet happy, he hated it, but he couldn’t deny it was true.
That brought a small smile to Volo’s face, and it hurt to hear.
“You’re right though, Emmet. He doesn’t belong here. Neither do you.” Volo says with a shaky sigh, despising the very words coming from his own lips. “I love him, and it’s my own damn selfishness that’s gotten him stuck here in Hisui in the first place. I can’t tell you how desperately I want to continue being selfish, to tell you that he’s here now, that he should stay with me and what we’ve built together. But I love him, and I can’t do that to him...”
“...It’s not up to either of us, in the end. The important thing is that now Ingo has his memories, and a choice on which life he wants to live.” Emmet says.
“...Right.”
Volo knew which way that choice would go.

Lol well /now/ you've got me thinking of sbh au ingo maybe delving into the catnip a bit /too/ much since it makes it easier for him to be affectionate with Emmet vs when hes sober. Catnip isn't a /dangerous/ substance on its own, but too much of anything can make you sick, which causes a great deal of concern for Emmet.
Emmet wasn't a narc. He wasn't entirely straight edge either. He wasn't often a user of recreational drugs, but he wasn't entirely opposed to it either. And sometimes he worried. About Ingo and how he seemed to be using catnip more and more frequently. Discovering that it could be made into a tea was probably the Worst thing.
Ingo was responsible enough to not do anything on days they worked. He needed his mind and reflexes sharp, in case of anything. For that, Emmet was grateful. But on stretches of time they had off, Ingo seemed to have been drinking more 'tea' than usual. The effects weren't bad, Ingo got clingy and needy and Emmet found him absolutely adorable and more than willing to happily give him any and all attention and affection he desired. Honestly, he didn't mind that part in the least. If he had that every day, he would be happy. But it likely wasn't great for Ingo to have it in his system all the time.
They were going to have a down week and Emmet knew it would be best to get out in front of this before Ingo became too wrapped up in his desire for being close. "Ingo. Can we talk about something?"
Ears perked in interest, Ingo's head tilted slightly to one side. "Of course! What is it? Is something bothering you?"
"It is about your use of catnip. It has been excessive and I am worried for your wellbeing."
"Ah. Has it really been that excessive? I assure you, I'm being careful, it's nothing to worry about."
"I will always worry about you. Is there a reason you have increased how much you've been taking?" Emmet's brow wrinkled a bit in concern. He was eventually met with a sigh and a warm hand cupping his cheek.
"Emmet... truth be told, there is. It is not a Bad reason. Though you may think me silly for it. But it's much easier to act more on my thoughts and feelings. You know how I have always been so guarded. It's hard to let down the barriers fully after so many years, even if I love and trust you more than anyone else I have ever met in my life. And you deserve to be loved, wholly and fully. Which is not something I think I can do on my own at this time. The use of catnip allows me to bypass those defense mechanisms that are only a hindrance between us. And I can express my feelings for you with every fiber of my being. Which is exactly what you deserve."
Emmet was quiet as he processed Ingo's reasoning. And after a long moment of silence, which only caused Ingo distress and made him nervous, Emmet let out a quiet chuckle.
"Ingo, you know that I love you right?"
"Of course I do..." Ingo pressed his forehead against Emmet's and for a moment they were just silent and enjoying the touch, the closeness.
"...Then listen. I do not care at what pace you open up to me. I have been patient so far and I have been fine. Knowing that you think so highly of me and that I am so important to you makes me happy."
"You are the most important. I just wish to do right by you."
"And you are, even without catnip! I love you at whatever level of affection you can achieve. I think I will much prefer to have you be as cuddly as you are on catnip when you are ready to do so. Even if that takes time. In the meantime, I can match that level of enthusiasm myself easily! I will make up for that current gap and drag you into cuddles whenever we are alone. Is that okay?"
With a deep sigh of consideration, Ingo nodded. "Perhaps I have been a bit nip-happy as of late. I can slow down on it."
"I would appreciate that. You do not have to stop entirely, just do it less. You are verrrrry cute when you are on catnip so I would not want to lose it entirely."
This time Ingo laughed. "Fine, we have a deal."
And he finalized it with a kiss.

Pokemon OC stuff, again, sorry~!
Regarding Kara and Kay's first birthday without one another, because Kara is in Hisui and Kay is in Galar. Each twin has a member of Submas with them during this time.
I'd imagine the first birthday after her twin goes missing (aka Kara got sent to good ol' Hisui) would be super hard for Kay. It's probably hard in general when someone you know and love is gone. Anyway. She was going to ignore it, to pretend it was just another day. She should've known better than to think her (and Kara's) friends would let her get away with that. Hell, even Emmet wouldn't have let the day go by without addressing it, and he would know how painful the situation is firsthand. Ingo's been gone for three years. Emmet has gone through this three times already. He didn't want to think of how it might become the norm, that he might never celebrate their birthday together again.
The day starts with a train ride to Galar. Leon had called Kay the night before and asked her to come home for the day. He never mentioned what the day was or why, but he didn't have to. If Kay and Emmet had any leads on Kara and Ingo, she would've refused. She contemplated lying. Emmet took the phone from her before she could and said they would be there, forcing her hand. Kay got angry tears in her eyes, but said nothing to Emmet as she went to "her room" in his home and "slammed" (closed a little more forcefully than usual) the door. She wasn't confrontational. He wasn't much for words. There was nothing to discuss if neither wanted to talk. So the next morning, they get up early and catch a ride to Galar. Silent all the way. Kay won't make eye contact with anyone. She's struggling to keep her composure, though it's no longer because she's angry with Emmet. It's...
How does anyone expect her to celebrate this day when Kara is missing and might even be dead? How do they expect her to behave? What is she going to say? What are they going to say? Nothing that happens today is going to fix her problems or make Kara reappear or anything. What's so important about a birthday if the one person you want to share it with--the one you've always shared it with--is gone?
The polite homebody Kay has been for most of her life takes over almost instinctively once she's back in Galar. Her smile is small yet convincing. If Emmet didn't know her as well as he'd come to, he might've even believed it. Leon is waiting at the train station for them. His mother and Hop are with him. They're trying so hard to show otherwise, but she can see the pity in their eyes. It makes her skin crawl. She doesn't need to introduce Emmet to the group as she's spoken of him enough and he's probably had a conversation in which most of Kay's friends and family have heard him, so he's known to those that matter. The group, now consisting of five people, heads towards Kara and Kay's home in Postwick.
The rest of their friends and family are waiting there, as well as all of Kara's Pokemon that aren't in the PC. All except Zamazenta, who went missing at the same time as Kara. Emmet stands awkwardly to the side while everyone takes turns hugging Kay. Kay also lets her Pokemon out of their balls. Her Joltik, Wattson, immediately jumps onto Emmet's hat on his head while the other 'mons go chat with Kara's team.
Everyone brought food so Kay wouldn't have to cook, because they knew if they didn't she would and no one should have to do that on their birthday. There were also gifts, and not just for her, either. She notes the boxes and bags with her sister's name on them, all piled neatly outside Kara's bedroom door. Her eyes grow misty and she has to swallow hard to keep up her facade of being okay. She doesn't open any of her gifts after confirming that none of them are perishable. They can wait until...later. She doesn't clarify when "later" will be, but the implication is there.
No one tries to overstay their welcome. The last to leave are Bede and Leon. Bede kept to himself the entire time, isolating as he had been doing for months now. (Remember, on the post about Kara, I mentioned she and Bede were dating. They'd just had their first year anniversary not long before her disappearance.) He approaches Kay alone and struggles to meet her gaze. Kay and Kara aren't exactly identical twins--Kay has purple eyes and red-and-yellow hair while Kara has green eyes and red-and-black hair--but there's enough similarities to make this very difficult. She reaches out to him, taking his right hand in both of hers and squeezing. On his right arm is the silver/platinum watch Kara had gotten him for their first anniversary to serve as a permanent replacement for the golden oversized one Chairman Rose had once given him. He'd worn it every day since. Some of the shine is worn away from how often he messed with it, but he couldn't help it. It was, in a lot of ways, the only thing he had left of Kara. Kay knows this. She knows she's not the only one hurting from her twin's disappearance, and that's why she didn't want to be wasting time here in Galar for a pity party or whatever. She and Bede exchange a long, tight hug before he leaves.
Leon comes to her after this. There's no polite smile. Just worry. She loses her fake smile and looks at the floor, unable to maintain any semblance of eye contact. He's not going to even attempt to talk her out of this seemingly useless pursuit of Kara and Ingo. He knows she needs to discover the truth and see it with her own eyes. And yes, he does believe that Kara is still alive out there somewhere. He just doesn't want to lose Kay, too. No one does. A lot of people love her just as much as they love Kara. Losing one of the twins was hard enough on Galar--and him. He doesn't know what he'd do if they were to lose both of them.
Kay reads between the lines. He--and likely the others--want her to come home. No, not just come home. Stay home. She hasn't been back in months until today. It didn't occur to her that her absence would matter to anyone all that much. She's not nearly as important as Kara. That's what she thought. Seems she was wrong.
And it's not like her search for her sister needed to be in Unova. Ingo had disappeared from there. Kara disappeared from Galar. Kay and Emmet were looking for resources any- and everywhere they could, from Pokemon to history books. The same could be done here, right?
But there's something she would have to face here that she wouldn't in any other region. Coming home to an empty house. Walking by Kara's empty bedroom. Facing Kara's absence directly on a daily basis.
Her heart can't take that kind of pain. She does her best to convey this to Leon, but the best she can do is, "I can't come home until she does." With a heavy sigh, he says he understands and doesn't press the issue any further. He wraps his arms around her and holds her more than hugs her for a while. Then, with much reluctance, he heads home.
Now there's just Kay, Emmet, and Pokemon.
Silent tears flow freely from Kay's eyes as she begins moving her gifts into her room. Champ and Mystic, her Machamp and Meowstic respectively, stop eating to assist her. Emmet sits and watches, the same thing he'd been doing basically since they got here.
Kara's Lopunny, Bunny, suddenly hops over to where Kay and Kara's mail has been piling up and starts sifting through it. Bunny is capable of reading, so she can find whatever she's looking for. She just remembered something she saw addressed to Kay that she believes the woman needs to see now. Snipelass, Kara's Inteleon, comes to help with her opposable thumbs. Their actions pique Emmet's interest and he approaches. Wattson is still on his hat.
Snipelass unearths an old-looking envelope with worn writing on the outside. It's super faded, yet still legible enough. It's addressed to Kay, but postmarked to not be sent until this exact date. How a letter that arrived today got buried is anyone's guess. The contents of the envelope are kinda bulky. Hmm. An old parcel delivered on this, the day of Kay and Kara's birth...
Wattson the Joltik uses his string to steal the envelope out of Snipelass's hands and takes off for Kay's room, and while the parcel is nearly as heavy as he is, he finds the strength to carry it and move faster than two fully evolved Pokemon and a grown man. He deposits it on Kay's head as she's exiting her room with Champ and Mystic, startling her before she quickly attempts to properly catch whatever her Joltik brought her. At the same time, Bunny, Snipelass, and Emmet just barely manage to prevent themselves from colliding with Kay and her Pokemon. The fact that so many beings seem interested in this worn out envelope causes curiosity to rise above the depression. She has to know what this is, now.
Kay takes a seat on the floor in front of the couch. Emmet sits to her right. Wattson is on her head. Bunny and Snipelass huddle together at her left. Mystic sits on the couch directly behind Kay's head with Akiza (Kara's Roserade) at her right and Luna and Morpheus (Kara's Gardevoir and Kay's Zoroark) at her left. Copier (Kay's Ditto) is to Akiza's right in their putty form. The rest of the Pokemon (Champ) (Kay's Florges, Aletris, and her "court" of five Flabébé) (Kara's Obstagoon, Diva) (Kara's Urshifu, Grumpy Bear) crowd in as best they can as Kay opens the envelope...
x-x-x-x-x-x
Kara doesn't handle her first birthday without Kay very well, either. It's somewhat easier to pretend the day doesn't matter, however, as no one else knows when her birthday is and, technically speaking, she shouldn't even be born yet.
At this point in Hisui, she's probably still working on the Dex and hasn't gotten all the plates yet, meaning she hasn't hit her breaking point and Volo isn't gone.
Though no one knows what might make the day different for Kara, her behavior is a bit off enough that anyone she's made meaningful connections with can tell something is amiss. She's more aloof and distant than usual. She avoids reflective surfaces like the plague. She doesn't return to Jubilife Village after leaving early in the morning and she doesn't go to either clan's settlements, or even the lands around those locations.
At some point, she winds up at the ruins of the Temple of Sinnoh, directly beneath where the space-time rift once was. She sits amongst the rubble. It's cold all the way up here in the Coronet Highlands, but since she hadn't planned on this, she didn't have a coat. All she has is the thin navy blue hoodie she was wearing when she was pulled from Galar to Hisui. (Obviously she's dressed in other clothes, too; this is just what's "protecting" her from the cold.)
She releases her Pokemon, including Dialga and Palkia, from their Pokeballs. Zamazenta is never in his ball, so he's already with her. He curls himself up around her as her team sit close by. Pyrrha (her H. Typhlosion), Bunni (her Lopunny), Float (her Floatzel), and Spaghetti (her alpha Tangrowth). Dialga and Palkia are much too big to join in sitting with the group, so they merely stand nearby. She pulls a couple of things out of her backpack (remember, she has her bag from her adventures in Galar, not just a silly little satchel) and puts one of the things on top of the other. A Cake-Lure Base and a candle. She asks Pyrrha to light the candle. All her Pokemon except Zamazenta (and D and P) give her a strange look, prompting her to explain it's a tradition for humans to blow out a candle on a cake to make a wish. Maybe it hasn't reached Hisui yet. At any rate, Pyrrha creates a tiny flame on the wick. Kara closes her eyes. A few moments later, she blows out the fire. She can't tell them what her wish is, as per the rules, but anyone who knows her can probably guess it.
Under her breath, she whispers, "Happy Birthday, Kay," before taking a bite out of the Cake-Lure Base. It's not good. Definitely not intended for human tastebuds and best mixed with other ingredients for Pokemon. Pyrrha eats the candle and Kara tosses the rest of the Cake-Lure Base aside. She then pulls her knees up to her chest, resting her head against them as she starts crying.
She shouldn't stay here too long. This part of Hisui is Lord Electrode and Lady Sneasel's domain. If they and/or their wardens came looking for her...No, she couldn't be seen like this. Maybe Ingo would be okay, but Melli could never be okay. Yet she can't bring herself to move. She knows the sky probably won't open up again any time soon. Dialga, Palkia, and all the noble Pokemon are no longer frenzied. She hasn't collected all of the plates or completed the Hisui PokeDex, and even if she had, there's no guarantee it would change anything. She's stuck in Hisui, possibly forever.
And this point, this spot in Hisui, this dilapidated Temple of Sinnoh, is the closest she can be to home. Her real home. The closest she can be to her twin sister. Kay. Oh, Kay. Poor girl must be so worried. How much time had passed for her? Was it one-to-one, like every day Kara lived in past Hisui was a day in present Galar? How long has Kara been missing there? What did everyone think happened? Did they think she...? No, she wouldn't have left her Pokemon if she did run away. They knew that. And she really had no reason to leave of her own volition. She was happy. She had friends, family, was starting to enjoy life, had a boyfriend, and had plans for the future. Arceus derailed everything because...why? Kara tried asking, both verbally and through text on the Arc Phone. No answer. How typical of alleged gods.
Kara doesn't leave fast enough. Lady Sneasler and Ingo arrive on the scene, which she only notices when she hears and feels her Pokemon shift to look at something. Her 'mons aren't threatened by the appearance of the Lady and her warden. Both have been nothing but kind to Kara. Besides, Ingo is in a similar position to Kara, except for some reason he's suffering from amnesia and has been here for roughly a decade. His memories have been returning more and more since Kara's arrival, but she wonders if that's really a good thing. Having the memory of her life before Hisui has only brought her pain. Maybe she would've been better off with amnesia, too...
Ingo greets her as she raises her head to look at him, addressing her as, "Miss Kara." She tries to hide the fact that she was crying, but is fairly certain it's useless. He asks why she's here. She gives the smallest shrug. He glances up at the sky, then back down at her. Realization. She's here for the same reason she wasn't at the festival celebrating the closing of the rift. He felt the same sadness, though to a much lesser extent. Because memory. It was both a blessing and a curse.
He asks if he can sit with her. She gives a small nod. Her Pokemon make room for him and Lady Sneasel to join them. The stone rubble ground is cold. Kara shivers. Pyrrha activates her purple flames to provide some heat. Her ghostly fire reminds Ingo of Chandelure.
After several long, freezing minutes, Kara mutters something Ingo barely hears. She admits to him it's her birthday. Hers and Kay's. Then she says more, a little more loudly, too. If she was home, she'd be turning twenty-one with her twin. If the days lined up, anyway. This is the first time she's had a birthday without Kay. Technically neither have been born yet, she says with a pathetic laugh. There's nothing to celebrate. She shouldn't be alive or exist right now. Realizing how dark that sounds, Kara goes quiet and hides her face in her legs again.
Lady Sneasler thinks for all of a second before scooping up Kara and shoving her in the basket on her back. No one was expecting it, so it takes everyone by surprise. Kara's 'mons (minus Zamazenta) fly back into their Pokeballs as Ingo stands again, unsure what his Lady is doing. Zamazenta gets defensive, growling at Lady Sneasler with his teeth bared. She says something in Pokespeak to him, which shuts him up but doesn't entirely alleviate his concerns. Kara tries to escape from the basket, mildly panicking. Ingo wishes he had something to say to calm her down. His lady is behaving strangely.
The Noble Pokemon takes off through the highlands with Ingo and Zamazenta following behind. Sometimes for speed, Zamazenta will put Ingo on his back and sprint/climb faster than Ingo can do himself. Kara in the basket just closes her eyes and hugs herself, confused and unable to do anything about it.
She is soon deposited in a cave somewhere in Coronet Highlands. Literally dumped out of the basket onto the ground. A quick look around and she realizes she must be where Lady Sneasler and Ingo live. It's definitely a homey cave. So the Noble wanted to bring Kara here for her birthday. Well, at least it's warmer than the ruins of the Temple of Sinnoh.
There's a fire pit, which Ingo hurries to ignite. After regaining her composure, Kara lets Pyrrha out to assist him. Lady Sneasler throws a blanket over Kara as Kara lets the rest of her Pokemon back out of their balls. Lady Sneasler sits on the opposite side of the fire as Kara, flanked by Dialga and Palkia, while everyone else assumes the positions they had before when they were outside. Kara absentmindedly leans into Ingo as they share the blanket in front of the fire. No one says anything.
Kara loses track of time there. It happens a lot when she spends time with Ingo. Why? She has no idea. He doesn't either, though it's the same for him. Maybe it's because they both fell through a rift into the past? It doesn't matter. She likes it. While she likes Volo and Adaman more, she can't help feeling guilty about feeling the way she does around them when she already has a boyfriend. (She feels awkward around Volo in general nowadays, too, because the night following her exile from Jubilife kinda sorta made her feel so bad she and he...well, anyway...) With Ingo, there's not a lot of guilt. Just comfort, really. Being comfortable with a stranger is odd. But hey, it's better than nothing.
She's *this* close to falling asleep when Spaghetti's (the alpha Tangrowth) stomach lets out the loudest growl. Welp. Someone's hungry. And if he's hungry, everyone else probably is, too. Kara gets up and pulls her large cooking pot out of her Bag of Holding (aka the bag she brought from Galar that's capable of fitting the curry pot, a tent, and every item ever despite its size). Time to whip up some curry. Bunni (the Lopunny) steals the fan for the fire from the bag, assigning herself that task. Float (the Floatzel) helps pull out the ingredients and he provides the water needed. Ingo, Lady Sneasel, and the rest stay back while the crew goes to work. Kara basically goes into a trance when she's doing this, which is nice for someone who's been feeling too much lately.
There's plenty of curry for everyone, including the Pokemon that Ingo has on hand. Kara serves it up in bowls, also from her Bag of Holding. She and he are the only ones that use utensils to eat. Pokemon gobble straight from the bowl, especially since most don't have the thumbs needed to hold a spoon. Ingo commends her on the delicious meal. Kara gives a small, sad smile. This is nothing compared to what Kay can do. The only reason Kara can do this is because she had to learn in order to stay out in the Wild Areas and go far from home during the Gym Challenge and the completion of the PokeDex in Galar. These sorts of things are vague memories for Ingo, though of course in his case they'd be related to Unova, not Galar. Regardless of how or why, Kara still did well, and she deserves to be complimented. She gets flustered and tries to brush it off again, but can't get the words out for some reason.
The warden and Float go out of the cave with the dirty dishes to clean them once everyone has had their fill. Kara is left alone with the other Pokemon and her thoughts. She wonders if Kay is handling this day well. She wishes she could talk to Kay, to let her know she's okay and trying her hardest to get back home. But without the rift, how could she reach her sister?
Then it came to her.
x-x-x-x-x-x
The old mail was from Kara! Somehow.
Even without the introduction, Kay would've recognized her sister's handwriting anywhere.
The parcel had a letter several pages long, written over the course of a couple days, starting on the day that would've been their birthday if they were born over a hundred years ago. There were also old photographs. Kara was in every one, standing with people Kay didn't recognize and usually wearing clothes that were too outdated to be by choice. The people in the photos were labeled on the back. Adaman, leader of the Diamond Clan. Irida, leader of the Pearl Clan. Volo. Cyllenne, captain of the Galaxy Team's Survey Corps. Professor Laventon. Rei, a member of the Survey Corps. Wardens of the Diamond and Pearl Clans.
How was this possible?
As the letter explained on the first page, Arceus had decided to take Kara to Hisui in the past, for some reason even Kara herself didn't know despite being there for months now as of writing the thing. She's trying to get back. She wants to come home so badly. And she's so, so sorry for what she must be putting Kay through, even if this disappearance wasn't by choice.
While Kay reads the letter out loud, Emmet takes the photos and focuses on one in particular. Kara with one of the wardens of the Pearl Clan. He's obviously older and his signature hat and coat have seen better days. There's a goatee on his chin. He seems more tired than he ever looked before. But...There's no denying his identity. Emmet knows in his heart who this older man is from the moment he sees the image.
Ingo.
Three years ago, his brother disappeared without a trace. Now he knows where Ingo went.
He interrupts Kay to share the news. She's happy for him, but also because this means they have a lead on their missing siblings. Ingo and Kara are together, just like Emmet and Kay. It looks like Ingo has been there longer than three years, though, so there must be a kind of time discrepancy or something between then and the present. Kay continues to read the letter for more info, believing Kara would tell them about Ingo.
Kara still has her memories, but she reveals that Ingo suffered amnesia when he arrived over ten years ago. He's slowly been recovering his memories since Kara arrived. She asks Kay to find his brother to let him know, certain Emmet must be as worried about him as Kay is about her. She also isn't sure Arceus is responsible for Ingo's presence, because he doesn't have an Arc Phone like she does and because of the memory loss. It didn't make sense to Kara.
With the space-time rift gone, Kara doesn't know how they'll come home. She's hoping that completing the task Arceus set out for her-- seek out all Pokemon--by helping Professor Laventon compile the first PokeDex will do the trick. There's also some ordeal with plates of the eighteen Pokemon Types that Kara's friend Volo seems to think might help. She can't make any promises. She wants nothing more than to be home. She misses her sister. She misses her friends. She misses her Pokemon. And holy shit does she miss indoor plumbing and air conditioning and central heat and beds that aren't on the floor and so many other modern luxuries she used to take for granted.
"I hope to see you soon. Love you, Kay. And happy birthday."
Kay is so overwhelmed. She sets aside the letter and photos before she bursts into tears so she won't risk damaging the already worn pages. Earlier, her tears were shed from sadness. Now, her tears are from joy. After months of stress, she finally knows what happened to Kara, and after three years, her friend Emmet now knows where Ingo is. She couldn't have asked for better news--her sister's return being the sole exception--and on her birthday no less.
Without thinking, she throws her arms around Emmet and hugs him, burying her face in his chest. He stiffens, caught off guard. It's only for a moment, however, because while he doesn't express it well, he's just as happy to finally have another lead on his brother's disappearance. He returns the hug. They keep hugging until Kay stops crying.
The only question is... How can they bring their siblings home???

Free willy 2 online
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't see why the first needed a sequel. The film doesn't do anything new or exciting and the film is pretty pointless.
Tumblr media
The film is terrible, considering that the first was decent. Kids who liked the first movie will probably like this one, too, but it felt like a retread for me.Īlthough I didn't mind not being able to see both of Willy's eyes at the same time, I spent much of the movie afraid they were going to train him to wink.As far as sequels are concerned, Free Willy 2 is as pointless as they come. Making friends with a whale should be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, not the stuff for a sequel two years later (with "Free Willy 3" and "Free Willy 4" already on the drawing boards). Because "Free Willy 2" offers essentially the same characters and the same situation, only less believable, I became aware of the manipulation. The first movie appealed to me because I bought into the characters and the situation. There is even a scene where Jesse goes for a thrilling ride in the bay on Willy's back. This time, Willy seems to almost understand English, responds to what Jesse says and gets involved in the plot. In the first movie, Willy developed the ability to nod his head up and down for "yes" and sideways for "no." This is not easy for a whale to do, especially when half of its body is out of the water. At one point, the harmonica slips from Jesse's hands and falls into the water, and there are a couple of tense moments until, yes, Willy surfaces with the harmonica in his mouth, and Jesse snatches it right off the whale's tongue. In this film, Willy is apparently able to hear the harmonica at great distances and comes straight to his master like a dog. You will recall that in the first film, Jesse was able to communicate with the whale by harmonica. He's turned into a glib liar, even explaining that Al Pacino is his father.Īnd there are sensitive scenes in which Jesse develops his first teenage crush, on a girl named Nadine ( Mary Kate Schellhardt), and Elvis tattles after observing their first kiss.
Tumblr media
Jesse, as played by Richter, has developed into a capable and intelligent kid, and Francis Capra does a good job of suggesting the hurts he suffered while growing up with an irresponsible mother. Emmet Walsh) want to place the whale in "protective custody," which is a nice way of saying they want to return him to captivity and sell more tickets. This leads to a subplot in which still more evil oceanarium owners (including the scheming M. When Jesse makes an effort to welcome him, Elvis' only answer is, " Whatever." Elvis is, in fact, a clone of the Jesse character in the first movie.Īs for Willy, after a tanker runs aground and an oil spill spreads ominously, marine life in the entire area is threatened. Jesse is not so happy to meet Elvis, a tough little kid who is hostile and aggressive. And Willy, who has been freed, is discovered again, and an environmental crisis threatens his home waters. Jesse's biological mother, who abandoned him and went to live in New York, dies - leaving him with a kid brother named Elvis ( Francis Capra) he didn't know he had. Life is serene, until two developments shake things up. This time, the film uses only animatronic whales, although their builders still have not moved their eyes any closer together.Īs the film opens, Jesse is living happily with his foster parents, and most of his behavioral troubles seem behind him. That problem has been avoided in "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home" (the closing credits helpfully list an 800 number you can call to save the original Willy). After the movie was released, some irony developed when it turned out that the whale playing Willy was itself in captivity. The villains in the original movie were guys who wanted to make money by exhibiting Willy. Only after he befriended a sad whale in the local oceanarium did he begin to get his life together and accept the love offered by Glen and Annie Greenwood ( Michael Madsen and Jayne Atkinson). What I liked about the earlier movie is that it wasn't really about the whale but about the young boy ( Jason James Richter), a troublesome loner named Jesse who was having a hard time adjusting to a new foster home.

thinking about twins getting reunited in hisui by way of emmet falling rather than ingo being returned to his own time in unova... pulling the ol switcheroo in that emmet also loses access to all of his memories in the fall save for his own name, but for ingo, when he sees emmet, it’s like a jolt to the system that sends a precious few memories flooding back to him. like, this is him, this is the man that’s been haunting the back of his mind just out of reach, this is EMMET this is his brother who meant and means the world to him. how could he forget? moreover, why can’t he remember more than this, even now?
emmet, for his part, realizes that ingo looks exactly like him and as such doesn’t doubt ingo’s claiming to be his brother, but the memory is just... not... there. no recognition of what little ingo recalls; there is at best only a passing sense of familiarity that could be missed were he not looking for it. still, surrounded by people he doesn’t necessarily understand in a place he certainly doesn’t, this is enough for him to take a preference to remaining by ingo’s side.
(i like to think that the first memory emmet recovers, ghost though it is, is dug up watching ingo battle in jubilife... the incredible sense of deja vu watching him point and call out his commands... it spurs on this overwhelming urge to stop what he’s doing and take a place at his side, to act as a mirror image. he can picture it, it feels like he’s done it before, he wants to do it...)

Ooh! Another idea for MerMay, this time much cuter and more wholesome: Bioluminescence.
Again, I can easily see the purpose of bioluminescence varying depending on character and species. A way to dazzle and stun a mate, a mechanism to ward away any threats, or maybe just a useful ability for sticky situations.
My favorite use it when it’s used to convey happiness and love.
Imagine being with your favorite hybrid and it’s pure heaven. Maybe you say or do something that just has them reeling, or it’s just that there’s a sense of bliss they so desperately needed. Either way, they smile at you and suddenly their body is softly glowing with a light that shines and dims in time with their beating heart. Spots and specks decorate their body like freckles, though it looks more like a galaxy has been mapped along their entire body. You literally light up their life.
Aww….
Eelektross Emmet is one glowy boy. It has many, many uses for him. When in deeper waters hunting, he often flashes his bright yellow colours to blind and make it easier to attack prey, but he also uses it to express himself.
Such as when you brought him a pool toy, and he chased it around the waters excitedly. When he finally caught it, his yellow spots were lit up beautifully in the evening light. He also tends to light up when he's excited to see you. He's just constantly glowing for one reason or another.
For Milotic Volo, his is extremely rare. Few if any have managed to spy a Milotic's luminescence. It is used to ward away prey in deeper parts of the water or lure in a mate in a display of beauty. (Or guide a few lost Feebas back to a safer area, but Volo certainly isn't going out of his way to help lost hatchlings.) His golden tail takes to an almost impossible glow, with the accented magenta areas lit up brightly. His long, pink antennae also join the light show, making him a fierce some sight in the deep for someone looking for a quick meal.
As for you, he never admits he does it, but you have watched him light up brightly with a beautiful shade of magenta quite often. He seemingly unconsciously glows around you, further evidence of him viewing you as hid mate. The sight is always gorgeous as he swims off from the dark waters at night, with his bright colours illuminating the otherwise murky depths.
(He probably uses the enteral beauty of it all to help his siren activities.)
Incomplete Eelektross Ingo accidentally glows and then freaks out trying to hide it. He isn't playing human very well when he suddenly has an electric yellow glowing from the spattered Eelektross flesh across his body. It's almost always because he got too happy. If you just pop in at a moment he's feeling particularly lonely, he's glowing in a dark corner of the station with a flustered expression.
Pretty much all the Depot Agents already know of their fish boss.

A Brief Submas Primer
Did you just find out about the Pokemon franchise’s most popular battle facility since the Battle Frontier because of a plot point in Legends: Arceus? Were you curious because your friends were talking about some weird train man and you have no idea what they’re on about? Worry no longer, because this mole person has you covered.
What the hell is Submas?
The term ‘Submas’ is a portmanteau of their Japanese trainer class title, Subway Masters (in English releases, they got the trainer class title Subway Boss). Note that I’m saying “they” - there are, in fact, two of them, and they’re twins.
Tumblr media
Ingo (Nobori) is the older of the two of them, specializing in Singles. He speaks overly politely/formally (more obvious in Japanese), has no indoor voice, will yell “BRAVO!” the second anything remotely good or exciting happens, has an overbearing sense of responsibility (it’s an older sibling thing, trust me), and became an accidental sex symbol on Pixiv (don’t ask, he probably doesn’t know either). He’s best known for being the “serious” one and notably has not been allowed to smile in-game to this day, although he was allowed in the anime and manga to be more expressive. He makes up for this by being very, very loud.
Tumblr media
love of my life Emmet (Kudari) is the younger of the two of them, specializing in Doubles. His dialogue is a lot more blunt and informal (again, more obvious in Japanese; the English translation made him seem almost stiff), and he’s actually the more excitable of the two of them and is nearly always depicted in-game in a good mood and smiling. This is a bit deceptive, as when he’s battling he’s actually very serious and intense about it, and he also does take his job seriously and will go through safety checks before battling in certain scenarios. He has a verbal tic of reminding people that he’s Emmet, probably because when you have an identical twin sibling you get tired of being mistaken for each other your entire lives, and another verbal tic of saying “very” as “verrrry.” He’s not irresponsible in the slightest but is still the goofball younger sibling to his older brother.
What, exactly, is the Battle Subway, and why is it so popular?
The Battle Subway is Gen 5′s most notable battle facility. To get to it, you go to Nimbasa City and enter Gear Station, which architecturally appears to be a combination of Grand Central Terminal and the late Pennsylvania Station (F in the chat). Once here, you can choose to do Singles, Doubles, Multi (2 vs. 2), or Wi-Fi battles (playing online with multiple people). You’ll face 7 opponents in a row; losing gets you booted from the train at a stop you didn’t intend to get off at, which in New York City is a regular commuter annoyance. Winning 20 in a row allows you to fight Ingo, Emmet, or both of them if you’re doing Multi Battles; you can then fight them again with their team aces if you rack up a separate winning streak of 49 battles. Like all battle facilities, this is a challenge and requires skill and luck in equal measure, but it’s a lot of fun if you enjoy pushing yourself in that way.
As for why it’s one of the most popular battle facilities to date, being referenced in multiple games since its inception in Gen 5? Japanese railfan culture is on an entirely different level than other places; the nation adores its trains, and for good reason. Throw in a set of weird-looking twins and you’ve got a recipe for success that you probably weren’t expecting. Here’s a poll done at the time of Pokemon Black and White showing the most popular characters; note that Ingo and Emmet are second and third respectively...only behind N.
Tumblr media
(When I found this poll, I found some people who didn’t believe it was real. Obviously, they were people who didn’t know about Japan’s railfans.)
Why do they point like that?
Japanese railway employees use a system called pointing and calling to reduce workplace errors, improve muscle memory, and overall avoid accidents. Pointing and calling originated at the beginning of the 20th century - because steam locomotives are Very Loud - and has continued to this day because it improves safety. By pointing at each indicator/task and saying it out loud as it’s performed, it actually increases focus and decreases mistakes, which is immensely important when you’re working with trains.
The New York City subway has its own version of point and call - there are zebra signs (black and white striped signs) at each station, and when arriving at a station the conductor has to open their window and point at these signs to ensure the engineer has correctly lined the train up with the platform, because if the train isn’t lined up correctly...well, passengers could step out and there might not be a platform to step out onto. Not a good thing. Anyway, yes, you can have fun with the fact that they’re required to point at every single station.
What Pokemon should I expect to see here?
Ingo and Emmet appear to share a lot of their team members, as you’ll see both of them using certain ones depending on what mode you’re playing. Most notably, Ingo’s ace is Chandelure, and Emmet’s is Eelektross:
Tumblr media
(The dynamic duo as they appeared in the anime.)
You’ll frequently see them associated with other team members, too, though. In Pokemon Masters EX, in order to allow them to work together as effectively as possible with the game’s mechanics, Ingo has his Excadrill and Emmet has his Archeops. Emmet is also frequently depicted with a surplus of Joltiks, because his Galvantula knows Cross Poison, a move it could have only learned from breeding in Gen 5.
Tumblr media
This is a full listing of their team members if you’re interested, or if you’re like me and enjoy trying to run their team in other battle facilities. (Yes, it works.)
Okay, OP, you’re from the greater NYC area. How the hell does your subway system actually work?
For whatever reason, a lot of people find our subway system intimidating at first glance. We have over 470 stations and counting sprawled across several boroughs, so it can be a lot for a visitor from a place with no public transit whatsoever or a less complicated system.
The truth is that the NYC subway system is actually three historical systems that were merged a long time ago - the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (the numbered lines [1-7] and the shuttle [S] between Grand Central and 42nd Street-Times Square), the Independent Subway System (lines A-G), and the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company/Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation (lines J/Z, L, M, N, Q, R, and W). In the 1940s the city decided to take control and merge them all into the modern Metropolitan Transit Authority that we know and love (?) today. If you’re interested in the history of the subway, you can learn more at the New York Transit Museum’s website!
To take a ride, you need a MetroCard, although these are in the process of being phased out for a new system called OMNY, which will allow you to tap your phone and use that as payment. Currently, the fare is $2.75. Every New Yorker ever will complain when there is a fare increase, even if that increase is minimal. Jumping the turnstiles to ride for free is illegal, but many people do it anyway. And yes, if you’re good, you can speedrun the entire subway system. I haven’t done this yet, but I fully intend to.
Do people actually fight on the subway in real life?
Yes, I’ve witnessed it, and it was far from the weirdest thing I’ve seen on the subway. You get used to seeing strange things when you ride regularly.
Are there really that many rats down there?
Yes, and they’ll be your friends if you feed them. Most of the time they avoid humans, though, but you can watch them skitter about on the tracks when trains aren’t nearby. One I observed at 14th Street-Union Station once was particularly smart and knew exactly where the train would stop, then stood just past that point and avoided being hit.
What about abandoned stations?
We have plenty, and if you know where they are you can look out the window for them as you pass through! If you’re visiting NYC, I particularly recommend taking the 6 train all the way to the end and staying on when it loops back around to go back uptown. You’ll pass through City Hall, the original terminus of the 6 line and an absolute masterpiece of architecture that has sadly been closed to the public since the 1940s due to trains being elongated since that time.
Tumblr media
City Hall is objectively my favorite subway station in the entire city. It even has chandeliers. I’ve often wondered if this is why they gave Ingo Chandelure in the first place.
OP, you’re a foamer, aren’t you?
Maybe. (Don’t get me started on the GG1, Mallard, or the destruction of Penn Station in the 1960s.)
Is there anything else I should know?
Actually, yes, a few things:
For whatever reason, shipping Ingo and Emmet together is called Blankshipping. I do not do this because I have a real-life younger brother and obviously am wildly turned off by incest as a result. It was hard to avoid it during the games’ original run, but it seems to have thankfully died down now, though it’s still out there in places. Tread with care.
People in the know might notice that both of them can be interpreted as autistic-coded characters. (As an autistic person myself, I feel very seen by the fact that they exist and are so much like me.) Take care when depicting them to make sure you’re not doing anything ableist by mistake (Emmet in particular got hit hard by this early on). If you’re not sure, ask a neurodiverse person!
Don’t touch the third rail, you’ll be electrocuted and die instantly.
The man whose voice you hear saying “Stand clear of the closing doors, please!” is named Charlie Pellett, and his voice sounds like that because he was born in the UK and tried to disguise his accent growing up to avoid being made fun of. He now has the most recognizable voice in New York City.
DON’T WEAR YOUR BACKPACK WHEN YOU’RE STANDING ON THE SUBWAY. Seriously, it takes up too much space, bumps other riders, and is generally a nuisance. Yes, this applies to the Hikers you meet in the Battle Subway, too.
Hopefully this guide helps you out on your journey into the world of the Battle Subway and the Submas fandom! I’m happy to assist with any more in-depth questions about our subway system/trains in general, as well as other inquiries. Just don’t send me your Arceus theories anymore, I’m trying not to think too hard about it because it makes me cry. And with that...
出発進行!

This is not a request, it is simply a doubt that has arisen in my mind; Do you remember the protagonists of Pokemon BW? Hilbert and Hilda? Well, let's say that I have read some fanfics of them as a couple, and in the vast majority of their fanfics it is seen that they meet in the battle subway (a fact that makes sense since in truth the characters know each other canonically for that event) and they fight with Ingo and Emmet. Apparently in a lot of fanfics after that, they confess their love and start dating, but I always wondered the same thing: Does all that romantic situation with teenagers happen in front of Ingo and Emmet?
How do you think they would react to seeing that whole scene? Would it all be awkward or would Ingo have to cover Emmet's eyes so he wouldn't see how they kiss? I would love to see how our boys would react to all of this! <3
-Crystal 💎
Oof. Well, I think it sort of depends on how everything happened. Like if the Subway Bosses saw those two encountering each other for the first time, they obviously wouldn’t assume them to be a couple. However, if the Subway Bosses first met them while battling, then it might be more funny since the twins will probably assume that they’re a couple (when they’re not).
I mean, Emmet probably wouldn’t say anything, he’ll just keep his suspicions to himself and Ingo (but maybe if the signs are clear that they both do like each other, then maybe he'll bug the shit out of them). However, Ingo might blurt out his suspicions around them. No, he’s not going to ask them “are you guys a couple?”. It’s more like if those two won against him and Emmet in a battle, Ingo might blurt out “congratulations, young couple” or something dumb like that. And then he would punch himself in the face for his mistake and apologize. This will actually make him lose sleep over. And Emmet might snicker at him for this.
But if the two decide to confess to each other in front of the Subway Bosses, whether the battle starts or ends. Then fuck yeah, it’s awkward as shit. Never in their entire life do they witness such cringe; the twins aren’t exactly known for love and relationship stuff. But it’s not like they’ll rudely interrupt or look in disgust. The twins are genuinely happy that the two confessed their feelings for each other. They’ll just be as surprised and confused as the one who’s being confessed to. So when all that is over, the twins will sigh in relief since they didn't witness a rejection thing and they might congratulate the two for this. And that’s about it.
But if the two confess somewhere else in the subway station, and the Subway Bosses just so happen to witness or hear it from a far away distance. Then it’s sorta less awkward here. They’ll probably end up eavesdropping on this live-action suspension tv show (Emmet being more intrigued than Ingo) since it’s certainly something you don’t see every day. And again, the twins are happy for those two (and perhaps a bit caught off guard since they didn't expect this and prays to Arceus that they didn't witness a rejection thing). But they might leave them be when it’s all over or it’s been going on long enough… Or one of the twins decided to run up to the two and scream swears.
If the two lovebirds were to kiss, Ingo doesn’t really have a reason to cover Emmet’s eyes because Emmet will probably cover his own eyes like a true man (he respects privacy-). While Ingo will probably just look elsewhere in the most awkward way possible. But I mean, if the two did something very inappropriate, like swearing, then Ingo would cover his brother’s eyes and ears and tell those two to get the fuck out. This is a Christian subway server. All we can do is hold hands here-
But yeah, the Subway Bosses would be happy for them. It genuinely brings them joy into their heart.

Idk how we feel about being "the dark™️ one" in scenarios, but man... I wanna gaslight, girlboss, gatekeep pla ingo. Like, being a big fan of his back in unova normal times, or someone he turned down, and seeing him when you fall into hisui. Realizing he remembers Nothing and deciding to use it to your advantage. Giving him an inch of information ("you were an incredible trainer in our time. You even worked at a battle facility!") then taking a mile ("the partner you worked with left after a few years:( you were alone") and just Being The Worst with him and making him feel like he has to rely on you since you seem to know him. :))
personally, i don't mind reader being Fucked Up, it's fun!! i REALLY kind of let this concept get away from me, lmao.
notes: 'bad reader' / reader is not a good person, unhealthy relationships, obsession, manipulation, stalking, ask to tag.
maybe you'd been a fan of him for ages, went barrelling down the path after a short but sweet chance encounter, but in your lonely life, you’d ended up just a little bit too invested. you don’t know how it got like this, but you don’t care! every scrap of attention you get from him gets you on such a high that nothing else matters. (you ignore the lows, the times where you can’t focus on your schoolwork or taking care of yourself and your entire body is tense with anxiety because he’d been active on his most visited train forum and his twitter, he’d liked stuff, but not your stuff, and he hadn’t responded to the thread in which you left a comment with purposeful misinformation on his favourite train model that you know he’d want to correct and he probably hates you and wants you dead now and and and-)
you know his entire schedule and all the strategies he liked to employ during battle, running fanpages and having notifs on for all his social media (and emmet's, and elesa's), zoning out and daydreaming about the life you might have together once you could finally get him to respond to your messages- you’ve been trying to follow him home from his shift (so you know where to send the flowers to, obviously!) but he keeps his chandelure around often, and it’s like the pokemon can sense your intentions. you can’t let yourself get caught, what if he thinks you’re some kind of weirdo?
but eventually you can’t take it anymore. you’ve tried your best to learn his interests and mannerisms, what he likes and dislikes, written out plenty of ways you could start conversations, and much more. you tried to make yourself perfect for him. you’re incredibly nervous while standing in front of him, flowers in hand. tongue going a mile a minute as you ramble about how much you admire him, how much you love him, that you’ve talked a little bit, of course, and would he like to go out with you?, and- (you miss his tense expression or posture, just how baffled he is by this. he’s no stranger to enthusiastic fans- but this is much, very much, in fact, even for him.)
“my sincerest apologies, passenger, but... who are you?”
it was the worst answer he could’ve given you and it’s like an icy fist crushed your heart. and for a moment, as you crush the flowers in between your fingers and throw them at his feet before turning on your heel, that you wonder; what the fuck have i been doing with my life? the tears run hot on your face as you make your way home, and you’ve scratched the inside of your hands raw with your nails to relieve some of the stress. by the time you’ve collapsed against the inside of your door, something else takes that thought’s place. you put... so much time and energy into this, so much effort, so much love, you know him better than anyone else, you’d been perfect, you’d been certain and he- he spat it all back in your face.
'love' had turned to vitriol, fanpages deleted and sockpuppets made to send endless strings of harassments and threats. with all the information you knew about him, you could also figure out ways to say the things you thought would get underneath his skin the most. you’d gotten banned from the battle subway because of your behaviour towards other challengers, always throwing a fit whenever you lost. nothing deterred you. that was, of course, until he disappeared. and you had nothing to do with it. it left you aimless and empty until, eventually, you were whisked away to another world entirely.
every single day being a struggle to stay alive definitely helped to keep your mind off of things. but then you just had to see him, and it had your heart racing. you didn’t know how to feel. a buried, almost-forgotten part of yourself rears its head. you can’t remember why you were brought here, nothing except a golden light searing into your brain. perhaps you were brought here to find him again, perhaps you were right all along- that even a god would offer their assistance to bring your love to fruition. your bitterness wins.
wouldn't this be the perfect opportunity to take revenge?
it’s not as hard to be nice to him as you expected. you feed him little bits and pieces about his past life, his occupation, the existence of trains, the city he lived in... you even drew out a little picture of chandelure for him! it all feels so painfully familiar to him that he knows you can’t be lying. but you never tell him about any of the people associated with him, and lie if he insists. and even if that doesn’t rouse the same feeling in him, he chooses to trust you. (”i’m afraid i still do not recall you... i apologize. we must have been quite familiar with each other since you knew me so well, yes?”)
no matter how you treat him, ingo would be hesitant to call you out on it, terrified of losing the only strand that ties him to his past life... being as aware of this as you are, you often pull away from him entirely for days at a time, obviously avoiding him or disappearing entirely! until the stress eats away at him more than he can handle, and he comes over and apologises for absolutely nothing, just to have you around him again. it makes you the giddiest you’ve been in years every time.

Hi! I was wondering if given the chance and Rosalie could have/adopt a child who doesn’t age fast and die like a human but isn’t a vampire (I’m thinking kind of like a teen wolf situation), would she take this opportunity to become the parent she’s always wanted to be? Would she be a good mother? Would she and Emmet be overprotective or cold? Because they’re different, How would she and Emmet treat them and What would that look like?
My previous answers to Rosalie and adopting/turning children here and here.
I haven't seen Teen Wolf, so that means nothing to me, but we won't let that stop us.
What will stop us, of course, is that I still don't think it'll work out.
What's Wrong This Time?
The first obstacle: Rosalie's going to have to notice this weird aging not vampire child. If there's nothing else that distinguishes them, and especially if they're young enough to still be a part of society, then the Cullens probably won't notice. The kid ages slowly, sure, but the Cullens only stay in a town a few years and don't pay attention to all the humans around them. And if the kid isn't very well integrated into society (ran away, was rejected by their original family, was an orphan) the Cullens are even less likely to notice as they'll just never come across this kid.
The second obstacle: vampire noses are very sensitive to what's human and what's not. Animals smell very tasteless and bland to them, it's telling that Carlisle didn't realize animals were a solution until he was starved out of his mind to the point where he's eating the equivalent of tree bark. Shapeshifters, people who aren't quite human anymore but not vampires, smell dreadful. They smell much worse than animals.
Rosalie... took note of that with Jacob and was not a fan. This kid smells rancid? Rosalie might pity them, but probably will never get close enough with them to go "WE MUST ADOPT" and then good luck convincing Alice whose visions are probably being blocked and gets the joy of their house smelling like god knows what for eternity. As it is, the smell's probably going to be Rosalie's first impression.
The third obstacle: this would probably be an older kid, probably somewhat close to Rosalie's age, just based on where Rosalie would be likely to come across such a kid. If the kid's a baby, that thing's going straight to Carlisle and is the talk of the hospital as it's just. not. growing. This newborn has been a newborn for an entire year, something is really, seriously, wrong here. That, or the parents already know, and they're not going to dump their baby on the weird Cullen family that moved to town. Basically, Carlisle would be working overtime but Rosalie would not be getting a new baby. And if it is a kid, who's too old... why would that kid want to move in with the Cullens? And vice versa, as the Cullens would be in serious danger of eating said child or else the child smells horrible.
Regardless, the child's life would be one they may have never wanted to live: constantly moving around, never forming ties with any real people, and living this empty shell of a life.
My point being, in this situation, I'm very doubtful Rosalie gets to become a mother. And even if the Cullens do adopt the child, why her? Yes, she desperately wants a child, but she'd have to take an extreme break from the high school routine for years. And Esme's already in the house and is Mother incarnate. More likely, Esme would take over.
Would Rosalie Be a Good Mother?
Parenting, in general, is really hard. Rosalie when turned was very young and has a lot of baggage. I think Rosalie would try very hard, she would love the child, whether it's Renesmee or the unlikely to adopt child above, but I don't think she's emotionally prepared to be a mother.
More, for her, being a mother is so tied into everything she lost. She has this very clear vision in her head of what being a mother, what having a child, will be like. In both cases you describe, neither child is quite human, and the ideal will not be the reality. Adding to that is that the Cullen way of life, in general, is not the rosy vision she'd have.
There will be very hard times, and I think Rosalie will endeavor to pull through them, but I think any child (Renesmee or otherwise) will realize that Rosalie has these unsaid expectations they simply do not live up to.
I don't think she'd be a bad mother, per se, and her heart would certainly be in the right place. But I don't think she'd be the perfect mother she envisions herself to be. And I think raising a child would be a lot harder and different than what she's built up in her head.
Would She and Emmett Be Overprotective or Cold?
Emmett, I imagine, doesn't care that much. He never seemed all that hung up or interested in kids. He's doing this for Rose. Sure, he likes the squirt, but he's not overly attached either.
Rosalie, I imagine would be overprotective. With Renesmee, she lived through the worst. The Volturi came to destroy the family, to destroy Renesmee, for the crime of existing. Renesmee cannot have accidents, the family cannot have any hint of breaking the law again, and Rosalie's now always worried about what might happen next.
With... mysterious child she's unlikely to adopt, depends when it happens. Probably still on the overprotective side due to worry. The kid lives in a house of vampires, even if they're not delicious, sooner or later one of them might accidentally smash them like a bug. In fact, it's almost inevitable. Humans cannot live in close contact with vampires, this is why the Cullens left in New Moon.
Rosalie would be terrified of this happening and would treat the child as if they were made of glass.
How Would Rosalie and Emmett Treat the Different Child
Rosalie would project a human child onto them. Renesmee has marble skin and grows like a weed? Doesn't matter, we're playing dress up anyway, this is great.
New child takes forever and a half to grow. Great, they get to be in adorable toddler clothes forever.
Ultimately, this isn't good for either Rosalie or the kid, but that was covered above.

Ashes to Ashes Jasper x Reader Part 1
It was an accident. A mistake. But Carlisle couldn’t just leave her there.
Two parents had been lost to a house fire, leaving a little girl to walk the streets looking for help. Once the proper authorities had been notified and the fire was put out, a social worker arrived at the scene to find the child, shaking and crying, with the town doctor Carlisle Cullen. The girl appeared to be fine, she was a little bruised up with a few scratches here and there, but she didn’t appear to have any burns. The social worker recognized the doctor and asked a simple enough question,
“Hey, aren’t you a foster parent? You already have the three teens right?”
Carlisle couldn’t blow their cover, so he said, “yes that’s correct.”
“Look I’m going to be honest with you, we’ve got more kids than workers and definitely more kids than parents, it’s going to take a bit before we can find her a new home. Would you be alright with holding onto her just until we can find her somewhere else to go? It would be a big help. It should only be a couple of days. Is that alright?””
Carlisle looked at the girl, wrapped in a safety blanket with tears in her eyes. She’d been through enough. Spending god knows how long at a police or fire station to be sent to who knows where to endure who knows what else wasn’t going to help her. At least he knew she’d be safe with him and his family until she could be placed somewhere else.
“Of course. Do I need to sign anything?”
“No, I’ll put it in the file system when I get to the office tomorrow. Thank you so much”
The two of them walked over to the child. She looks up at them with recognition. Everyone here knew each other, and she recognize them even if she didn’t truly know them.
“Hi what’s your name sweetie?”
“(y/n).”
“Okay (y/n) well this is Dr. Cullen, and he’s going to take you home with him until we can find you a family member or someone else to live with okay?”
“Yes ma’am. Hi Dr. Cullen.”
“Please call me Carlisle. You ready to go?”
“yeah I guess so”
To say that the others were confused would be one hell of an understatement. Esme and Rosalie recognized the look of trauma on her face and knew immediately that something was wrong. Their nurturing instincts allowed the child to adjust to the new environment a bit easier. Once the girl was calmed down fed and sleeping in the spare bedroom, all hell broke loose downstairs. Edward was not happy about this situation.
“Let me get this straight. You adopted a human child?”
“No Edward I did not. I’m not stupid. Her parents just died, and the system is a mess. We are just housing her until they find somewhere else to put her.”
“How long will that take? We leave in three weeks.”
“She probably has an aunt or a grandparent, or someone to take her. The social worker said it should only be a few days.”
Rosalie finally cuts in “Edward relax. The girl’s been through hell. She just needs a place to stay for a bit and acting like she is a burden is not going to help her. Besides it’s only temporary.”
“Exactly, only temporary.” Right?
Wrong. What they didn’t know was that the social worker never filed the case, nobody was notified and when it came time to move again she was just getting comfortable around the family. She was another child lost to the system. A mistake, but after all the girl had been through and how happy she made Rosalie and Esme, he couldn’t just leave her behind.
So that’s how you ended up with the Cullen family at 4 years old moving for what will certainly not be the last time. We’ll call it a happy accident. There was one big rule though that nobody was allowed to break: Nobody tell her.
This wasn’t actually the easiest rule to abide by because children are curious, and they say things they shouldn’t. The best example being that you noticed that your family’s eyes were all gold, but not yours. Your eyes are (e/c). Normal enough but not in your family. When asked Carlisle states that the eye color is a genetic defect and you don’t have it because you were adopted. You accepted this and many other explanations for strange occurrences in your house.
When you were around five the Volturi caught wind of your existence and to put it lightly they were not happy. They thought you were either an immortal child or at the very least you knew what they are and that means the Cullen family broke rule number one. Carlisle heard they were coming and had to call a family meeting. Edward sounded calmer than he really was.
“why do they even care about her? she’s a child! Do they think we turned her?”
“I don’t know why their coming, but they are an we need to put their mind at ease. We have nothing to fear Edward. We didn’t do anything wrong.” Rosalie joins in the conversation, voice laced with concern.
“I don’t know Carlisle, Edward’s right. Even if we didn’t do anything they don’t know that. We might be in big trouble”
“Who’s in trouble?” The family looks over to see (y/n) standing in the doorway to the living room. Esme takes care of this one.
“Nobody is in trouble dear. We just have some people coming over soon and we want to make sure they don’t think we broke any rules.”
“Who’s coming over?”
“Some extended family.”
“Do I get to meet them?” Esme looks at Carlisle for help. Edward tries to answer but Carlisle cuts him off
“absolutely n—"
“Yes, you do. Don’t worry dear everything is fine. Go back to bed”
“Okay. Goodnight”
They all say their goodnights and you go back upstairs to bed.
“How did none of us notice her?”
“We were too busy fighting, now Edward stop panicking it’s going to be fine”
“You’re going to get her, if not all of us killed.”
A few days later they did arrive. You met them in a field a few miles away from the house. They looked at you in confusion. Aro turned to Carlisle who stood far closer than normal to prevent (y/n) from overhearing any part of their conversation.
“She’s completely human.?”
“Yes. We ended up with her by accident she doesn’t know anything, and she doesn’t need to know anything. She’s perfectly normal and I would like to keep it that way.”
Jane cuts in, “How do explain us being here?”
“She thinks you’re extended family. Any question she’s had about appearances so far I’ve convinced her is nothing more than genetic defect. Eventually we’ll have to leave her but she’s a child with literally nowhere else to go.”
“Bring her here.” Carlisle looked back at you on Emmet’s shoulders laughing and hesitates. “We just want to speak with her. Bring her here and stand down.”
“(y/n), This is uncle Aro he and the others want to talk to you is that okay? I’ll be over there with the family if you need anything.”
“Okay.” You hop off Emmet’s Shoulders and run over to these new family members. “Hi. My name is (y/n) and I’m five. I’m adopted, but that’s okay cause my family loves me. You’re Uncle Aro right?”
“Yes dear.” You turn to Jane with a look of awe.
“What’s your name?”
My name is Jane.”
“Hi Jane. You’re pretty.” Jane smiles slightly.
“Thank you.”
You turn back to Aro. “Carlisle said that you think he did something wrong, but he didn’t do anything. I promise. The whole family is really nice to me, and they would never hurt me. One time a boy pulled my hair and Emmet gave him a look so mean he ran away. I promise they didn’t do anything, and Carlisle said that if I shook your hand that you would know I wasn’t lying.” You hold your hand out and Aro takes it. He seems dazed for a moment before looking back down at you smiling.
“I believe you. How about you go back over to your family and send Carlisle back over here okay?”
“Okay.” You bound back over to your family and tell Carlisle to go back over to uncle Aro.
“So? What’s the decision?”
“She lives. But we’ll be visiting her every year to make sure she’s oblivious. Let’s see how long you can keep up this façade.”
“You know you can’t keep this up for her entire life Carlisle. Eventually she’ll have questions you can’t answer. She’ll either turn or she’ll die.”
“She will do neither Jane.”
“Suit yourself, but you know the rules. Don’t break them.”
“We will return this time next year. Be ready.”
“I will. Thank you. Goodbye.” Carlisle turns around to find you on the ground making a flower crown while Rosalie was braiding your hair. “(y/n) come say by to your cousins and uncle.”
“Okay.”
Given the circumstances you grow up pretty normal. You make friends in your classes while you’re at each school for a few years before the family comes up with some strange reason as to why you have to move. You’re bubbly and happy and appreciate the inherent sanctity of human life. You take up sewing as a hobby, learning it from Esme who enjoyed nothing more than teaching you. You tried to join sports like cheerleading but with all the moving team sports didn't work. Emmet however did take you rock climbing consistently so there was that outlet for all your energy. You even enjoy your yearly visits from the “other side of the family.” Making small gifts for them each time they visit. At one point you even asked if you could go visit them instead since they live in Italy, but Carlisle said no in such a way you knew better than to ask again. Jane begins to return the gifts you make with her own, sometimes bringing small trinkets or even clothing for you. Carlisle is surprised when you tell them his decision, and Jane actually looks disappointed that you can't visit them. For two more towns and 12 more years everything is great. Until It was time to move again this time to somewhere Carlisle liked to call home: Forks Washington.

I mentioned the very basic premise of the Future Flung AU with the comic but I figured it wouldn't hurt to do a more in-depth explanation!
Oh Gosh okay this got Long so uh. Under a Read More it Goes!
After Ingo's disappearance, when the usual search methods turned up Nothing, he was pronounced dead. Emmet refused to accept it. Ingo was alive somewhere, he would Know if he was dead! So that meant it was up to him to find him! But it was something he had to do alone. When your entire world revolves around one person - your homelife, your worklife, your friends, your pokemon - living the life you've been living becomes nothing but a constant painful reminder of what you're missing. So, Emmet had to leave. He left the Battle Subway, Gear Station, he boxed their pokemon, and he walked away from everything to search for his brother on his own. Yes, his entire focus was still on finding Ingo, but now he would have a chance to breathe without everything reminding him of how empty things were without him.
During his search for information, clues, anything, some sort of space time rift opens up and Emmet gets sent 60 something years into the future. Except the trip wasn't exactly easy and when he becomes Aware in the future Unova he's in, he... doesn't remember anything. Not how he got there, not his past, actually the only thing he can remember is his name. Emmet. It's not much, but at least he has that. Though he does have an inherent fondness for Pokemon still, especially those little electric spiders!
He runs into a person who immediately recognises him from "my great grandma's photos!" and hearing he has amnesia, they try to help him out. A place to stay, a doctor's appointment to see what they can find out, and eventually directing him to the public library where he can look up old Subway Master stuff. Even if he can't remember anything about himself, there's no way he's not somehow related to them. Especially since he has the same name as one! Being the grandson would make the most sense because of how long it's been since the Subway Master disappeared. And the other one certainly wasn't alive to have grandkids. And he even has the coat and hat! Must have been passed down or something!
Emmet does as told and starts looking into the Subway Masters. He's supposed to focus on stuff about his grandfather, maybe something might trigger some of his memories? It's worth a shot! But in his research he comes across videos of the Multiline and he sees Ingo. The reaction is intense and immediate. He might have maybe fallen in love instantly. It's... probably weird to fall in love with your grandfather's twin who died under mysterious circumstances 60 something years ago. But he can keep that to himself. Its a parasocial relationship, its fine probably. Plenty of people have fantasies about people they'll never actually meet.
At least he thinks they're fantasies. After all, why else would he be having these sweet domestic and romantic thoughts about Ingo the more he researches him? They feel like memories, but no that doesn't make any sense. They have to just be made up, right? Those aren't the only sort of things that come up during his research. He doesn't actually remember anything about himself or who he is, but he has these weird memories (maybe?) of the Subway Masters' pokemon. Hunches and thoughts that aren't specifically documented anywhere. Like how Archeops liked getting chin scritches, or Eelektross had little yellow freckle spots that made it unique and cute, or that Chandelure has a spot on its body that made it melt when pet the right way. And Ingo's little smile when the pokemon were happy. No, that's also definitely just a fantasy. He'd look so handsome with a smile.
There are definitely a few holes in this AU and one of them is what exactly is going on with these space/time shenanigans, but those shenanigans do end up reuniting Ingo and Emmet. Except... neither of them are actually fully aware of who the other is and certainly not who they are either. Emmet looks at Ingo and feels as if this might actually be the Ingo he's been fawning over all this time, but he can't be entirely sure. Especially when Ingo himself doesn't have memories of being that person, though this person who he has met up with in this bizarre place and time does feel so familiar, the man in white.
So Emmet finds himself drawn to and quickly falling for this man who is what the Ingo of his fantasies would look like as a dilf. But oddly enough, just like his Ingo research before, he feels like he's... remembering? Things? Maybe? And more substantial than before, stuff he could honestly call memories and not just fantasies or whatever. And its all thanks to spending time with Ingo. It's a little weird but nice, getting to unlock these things that might help him finally remember who he is, and while he can't explain it, he's happy to get this chance all the same.
Ingo seems to be sort of recovering some memories of his own the more he spends time with Emmet as well. This place is still so foreign to both of them, but sometimes, something is familiar, or he suddenly gets a memory tied to something in an area or the like. Its a slow process but he's feeling more and more at home the longer he stays with Emmet in this strange new world.
They essentially fall for each other all over again, Emmet already having a bit of a headstart with being infatuated with Ingo from the videos, but Ingo feels it too, with how bright and sweet and enthusiastic Emmet is. A bit familiar but more than that, utterly charming, especially with how lowkey fussy he had been over Ingo and his physical health and recovery. And as that progresses to a physical level, their memory recovery speeds up too, until the point when they're finally intimate and afterwards they get a sudden boost and practically everything returns. They know who they are now! And everything is Right!
Except now they have to get their pokemon back from the boxes and they'll have to finally meet Emmet's friend's great grandma. Elesa is going to be So Mad that Emmet had barely aged any and that Ingo had aged Much Less than her. But they get to reunite and Elesa can fill them in on what happened after the both of them disappeared. Ingo gets forgiven, Emmet's in trouble for abandoning everyone and everything even before time shenanigans happened. But Elesa gets to see her best friends at least before she got too old.
And I think thats most of the main beats I have figured out! I am verrry open to questions as that may help fill in some blanks. The time shenanigans question is gonna be a mystery for a while longer cuz I need to sit down and seriously Think about it and maybe do some research and that takes some brain capacity I am Lacking right now. But questions about anything else are totally welcome if you have them! I hope to draw more for this AU soon at some poin!
