Steampunk! Magic! Dinosaurs!
Comic sans presentation time! Been a while since I finished one of these :D
CW: war themes, character death. Oh and castration (past, mentioned).
Send me any asks whatsoever.
Also appreciating feedback on the alt text, I'm not very practiced and I feel it's a little all over the place hhhhhhh.
@thelaughingstag hi!
Edit to add: the transforming-into-trees idea was sparked by (spoilers for the guessing game lol) this post!

Kriekra (Deinonychus)
In the world of The king-eaters' grief, Kriekras - or as they're known scientifically, Deinonychus - are used as attack and war animals. Athanasios had to leave his favourite, Adler, behind when he left the army :(
They may or may not be identical to Deinonychus antirrhopus but my logic here was that there'd be a lot more epithets referring to visual/non-skeletal traits if the actual animal was around!
Referenced Scott Hartmann's skeletal but I don't know if I did a very good job lol.

Three songs for The Silver Chronicles, Life, Despair & Monsters and an Original Work of minet. Also I'm putting my WIP Wednesdays on hold, as I'm working on my newest "Intro Post" and some Masterlists. Anyway, listen and read below the cut:
Silva and Azriel's mother-daughter relationship in Silva's Hope is one of the key turning points of the fic (the underlying themes of motherhood not withstanding); it causes Silva to reevaluate her standing with both Eden's Gate and the Resistance in Hope County and motivates her to take a much more proactive rogue approach, seeking to push both factions towards a peace without spilling anymore bloodshed as there had already been (before she was just trying taking out her grief, pain and her bottled up trauma onto the cult that was similar to the two that took everything from her, and hoping to get killed in the process, a roundabout way to end her own suffering without dishonoring/abandoning the sacrifices made to get her to safety). It also gives her the chance to acknowledge and accept the death of her daughter Persephone; something she's been guilt-ridden about throughout her grief, never allowing her to make peace with it. Silva's upbringing was shaky, her childhood spent with a man who's intentions towards her were anything but pure, and her adolescence spent with the father she wished she had before things went to hell. Silva sees herself in Azriel; a girl harmed by the zealotry of a cult and denied the affection she needed and craved for until later in her life. Silva hopes to be the mother Azriel can rely on, as well as a fiercer protector. This song is both a mix of Azriel and Silva's perspective (in a way), though it's also Silva echoing promises Paul had told her (when he was a better person) but directed to Azriel this time:
youtube
"There was a time, I used to look into my father's eyes In a happy home, I was a king, I had a golden throne But those days are gone, now the memory's on the wall I hear the songs from the places where I was born
Up on the hill, across the blue lake That's where I had my first heartbreak I still remember how it all changed My father said
Don't you worry, don't you worry, child See Heaven's got a plan for you Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah
There was a time, I met a guy of a different kind And we ruled the world, I thought I'd never lose him out of sight We were so young, I think of him now and then I still hear the songs, reminding me of a friend, oh
Up on the hill, across the blue lake That's where I had my first heartbreak I still remember how it all changed My father said
Don't you worry, don't you worry, child See Heaven's got a plan for you Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah Don't you worry, don't you worry, child See Heaven's got a plan for you Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah."
Next song is for an Original WIP of mine called Mario: Mother's Boy, a kind of origin story for one of my OCs from The UnTitledverse, Mario Emmet, a quippy shapeshifting alien that feeds on fear, and his time being raised by his mother, Abigail Emmet, who had spent nearly a century prior masquerading as a human outlaw with the Van Der Linde Gang (and feeding off the terror of her enemies). The fic starts from 1979 and ends in 1988, ending a few months Mario's other story, The Adventures of Debra Holmes and her Amazing Best Friend Mario Emmet, in The UnTitledverse. Throughout the fic, Abigail struggles with raising her very impulsively instinctively driven son, helping him masquerade as a human while teaching him human morals and culture (while retaining some of their better alien traditions that doesn't call for the disregard of other's health), going out on hunts to feed both herself and Mario (all the while terror becomes a harder emotion to elicit from her prey, though thankfully fear isn't difficult for Mario to pry out of his own prey), making decisions that put her son before herself, something that goes against her species very nature, as well as face her own impending mortality as her lifespan shortens. But for Abigail, as long as Mario is prepared to survive in this world without her, then that's enough for her, even if the time they had together was never enough.
youtube
"I'm trying to hold my breath Let it stay this way Can't let this moment end You set off a dream in me Getting louder now Can you hear it echoing? Take my hand Will you share this with me? 'Cause darling, without you
All the shine of a thousand spotlights All the stars we steal from the night sky Will never be enough, never be enough Towers of gold are still too little These hands could hold the world but it'll Never be enough, never be enough
For me Never, never Never, never Never, for me, for me Never enough Never enough Never enough For me, for me, for me
All the shine of a thousand spotlights All the stars we steal from the night sky Will never be enough, never be enough Towers of gold are still too little These hands could hold the world but it'll Never be enough, never be enough
For me Never, never Never, never Never, for me, for me Never enough, never, never Never enough, never, never Never enough For me, for me, for me
For me."
Cyberpunk: Corporate Shutdown is a Cyberpunk 2077 fic apart of Life, Despair & Monsters, following Min-Ji "Vasilisa" Choi, codenamed to simply "V" (supposed to be the Roman numeral of "Five"/"Fifth" but in Night City, people are pricks, so that number became a letter), as she navigates through the cesspool that is Night City, the dominion of Arasaka on American soil. She is mentored by both Johnny Silverhand (in her head) and an old companion of his, Rico (who Arasaka had intentions to weaponize him but he managed to escape before they could touch any more organs... though he is fighting off the side effects of Cyberpsychosis due to almost being full-borg, something forced upon him by Arasaka), into the life of a Cyberpunk. They intend to burn down Arasaka and their main enforcer, Adam Smasher, along with it. However, Smasher isn't alone; he has a pet by the name of "Impulse", and it seems Militech want a piece of the action with their newest creation: "Inviticus", so helpfully designed by one Sir Enigma Malvolio.

"Young blood, run like a river Young blood, never get chained Young blood, heaven need a sinner You can't raise hell with a saint Young blood, came to start a riot Don't care what your old man say Young blood, heaven hate a sinner But we're gonna raise hell anyway
Raise hell, yeah Raise hell Somebody gotta, gotta raise a little hell Baby, drop them bones Baby, sell that soul Heaven, fare thee well Somebody gotta, gotta raise a little hell (Oh, my-my, oh, hell yeah) Somebody gotta, gotta raise a little hell (Oh, my-my, oh, hell yeah) Somebody gotta, gotta raise a little hell
Young blood, stand and deliver No need for a queen affair Young gun, gotta pull the trigger When the whole world running scared.
Raise hell!"

Stranger Things Halloween Special Review
Tumblr media
Synopsis: It’s Halloween Night of 1983, and Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Will are gathered at Castle Byers to tell spooky stories. When Will recounts the legend of the Child Eater of Hawkins, things start to get intense for the group as they begin to wonder if the legend is real..........
Observations:
One of the things I’ve enjoyed about the tie-in comics are the stories that focus on the Party and the interactions they have, even when they’re not dealing with the supernatural threat of the Upside Down. It’s nice seeing the group as friends having fun and engaging in their own small adventures. It’s why I’m a fan of comics like the Halloween Special, the Winter Special, Zombie Boys, Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons, and Tomb of Ybwen. It helps that comics like these are written in a way where it’s easy to accept them as part of the canon.
The one-shot comic has a similar premise to the novel Hawkins Horrors where the kids gather together on a scary night to tell urban legends about Hawkins. The big differences are 1.) The Halloween Special centers on only one urban legend (The Child Eater of Hawkins) whereas Hawkins Horrors contained a collection of horror stories as told by various characters, and 2.) The Halloween Special only focuses on Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, and Jonathan whereas Hawkins Horrors takes place after season 3 when the Byers have moved to California with El, and the characters featured in that novel are Steve, Robin, Nancy, Erica, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Max.
The comic itself takes place on October 31st 1983, about a week before the events of season 1 when the gate is opened, El escapes the lab, and Will is taken into the Upside Down.
There’s a running joke in this comic and Hawkins Horrors about Lucas trying and failing to make his stories scary and everyone giving him grief for it.
Will’s story about The Child Eater of Hawkins was genuinely creepy and the comic does a great job with its disturbing images:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The comic was written and published in October 2020, about a year after season 3 ended and the Duffer Brothers had written season 4.
The twist with Jonathan dressing up as the Child Eater to scare Dustin, Mike, and Lucas was funny, and I loved how Will was in on the joke! 😂
On a final note, it’s interesting how Will’s tale about the Child Eater of Hawkins eerily parallels Vecna’s arc in season 4:
Both are monsters who specifically target kids/teens and kill them in gruesome fashion.
Both of the monsters victims are seen as sacrifices: The cops in Will’s story specifically trap 4 teens in the Hawkins Library for the Child Eater to devour so that it’ll go back into hibernation (similar to Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT), whereas Vecna kills 4 teens (Chrissy, Fred, Patrick, Max) to open the gate in Hawkins (with Vecna even telling Max that she’ll be “the final sacrifice”).
Both stories feature authority figures covering up the deaths of the victims and try to keep the public in the dark about what’s really going on.
On top of that, am I the only one who notices the Child Eater of Hawkins looks similar to Vecna?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Coincidence?
This was a fun comic, and I recommend checking it out if you get the chance! :)

Thoughts on The Song of Achilles
Spoilers
"Achilles did not slur my name as people often did, as if in a hurry to be rid of it. Instead, he rang each syllable Pat-ro-clus." This is one of the many, many lines that broke me. It says a lot about Patroclus and Achilles in only two sentences
"What has Hector ever done to me?" Well, call me, Julius Caesar, because this line has stabbed me repeatedly. I read The Iliad first, so I had expectations, but man, does it still hurt
"Some people might have mistaken this for simplicity. But is it not a sort of genuis to always cut to the heart?" I like this line a lot . It shows how close the two of them became. Also, there is some genuis in saying what you mean, regardless of simplicity.
The fact that Patroclus realizes that his father's disappointment after he is to be exiled isn't for the crime but for not being cunning enough to cover it was cruel.
Odysseus, being the smug guy he is, just in general
Achilles has the most boyish, standard teen response after Thetis tells him she wants him to be a God. It really shows the divide of human and God in him. Also the contrast is kinda funny
"There is no law that gods must be fair, Achilles." That is both the truth and probably a warning
"Name one hero who was happy. You can't."
"I can't."
"I know. They never let you be famous and happy. ... I'll tell you a secret."
"Tell me."
"I'm going to be the first. ... Because you're the reason. Swear it." Laughter morphs into uncontrollable sobbing. Oh the dramatic irony.
Patroclus saying he could identify Achilles by touch alone is just WOW
"Useless information is my curse, I'm afraid." Me too, Odysseus, me too
Odysseus talking about Penelope 🥺
Polutropos- man of many turnings is now something I'm gonna utilize more often
I have now officially scarred both myself and my friend for life with the tales of "Mighty Tydeus, King of Argos, Eater of Brains," and Tantalus' eternal torment
The banter between Odysseus and Diomedes
THE SACRIFICE OF IPHIGENIA 😭
"The goddess is appeased" CLEARLY NOT MORON
The fact that Agamemnon could anger both Apollo and Artemis is pretty impressive underneath its massive layer of stupidity (a thought that returned to me from before when I read The Iliad)
Odysseus calling Achilles "a weapon, a killer" because "you can use a spear as a walking stick, but that will not change its nature" really drives home my conflicted feeling that are true for most of the Greek heroes, but specifically Achilles this time
"I hope Hector kills you."
"Do you think I do not hope the same?" THE GRIEF MY HEART
Backtracking here, but I like how Briseis and Patroclus had a close bond with each other
"I am glad that he is dead." THAT IS CRUEL WOW. AND THE FACT THAT ITS THE LAST THING SHE SAYS BEFORE HE DIES IS WOW
Pyrrhus: *exists* Me: go back to pre-algebra you're 12
I find it ironic that Pyrrhus was killed by Agamemnon's son Orestes, considering their fathers loathed each other. The dishonoring continues among generations, but reversed this time and ending with murder
THETIS LETTING PATROCLUS AND ACHILLES BE BURIED TOGETHER, HAVING BOTH THEIR NAMES ON THE TOMB AND THE BOTH OF THEM GETTING PEACE IN THE UNDERWORLD 😭

subluxation is a need and i would like you to talk about it
also please god talk about gardener’s question time. i’m so serious
thank you, pal, for two exemplary choices from the work in progress tag game list!
very funny to me that - having once declared yourself to not be a rare pair girly - you have come out swinging in favour of the two rare pairs on the list. the corruption continues apace...
Tumblr media
gardener's question time is the result of a prompt i saw last year for a rare pair fest - which i didn't have the time to dive into at the time but which has stayed gnawing at my brain ever since - for a post-war fic with severus snape/andromeda tonks as the pairing.
and you'd better believe i was intrigued...
we're still in the early stages with this one, but the basic idea is to bring these two together through the complexity of their grief. [cheerful...]
the struggle when writing things in which snape lives is, of course, how you approach the fact that he has been living according to a script which has now ended. for all the implication of canon that dumbledore expected him to survive [why does he tell harry at king's cross that he intended snape to be the true master of the elder wand, if he wasn't planning for his loyal spy to reveal his true loyalties by helping deliver voldemort's final death blow?], snape can be very easily viewed as having presumed - and maybe even hoped? - that he would die in the second war.
how he deals with - for the first time in his life - having no master and having the freedom to choose to live on his own terms is something i think is always interesting to explore.
but i think it's particularly interesting to mash into andromeda's own finished script - the fact that her war has ended so devastatingly, with her husband, daughter, and son-in-law all dead; that she has gone from being a grandmother to teddy's primary caregiver [and the resentments that brings up - as we've talked about before, i'm wedded to the idea that she doesn't really like harry and isn't thrilled that he's teddy's godfather]; and, most thorny of all, that her sister is dead and there is now absolutely no chance of bellatrix seeing the error of her ways and trying to make amends [which, while i loathe the common trope that andromeda and her sisters would reconcile easily, is something i believe it's entirely reasonable for her to have hoped could be possible, even if she recognised it's unlikely it ever would have been.]
snape's post-war relationship with the malfoys - presumably absolutely torpedoed by the reveal that he was a spy - also has parallels with andromeda's post-war reckoning with narcissa.
Tumblr media
the title is because andromeda wanting to grow a kitchen garden of medicinal plants [and healing through it! omg, a metaphor!] was the premise which sprang to mind when i came up with this. i may have been watching gardener's world [i'd risk it all for monty don] at the time.
Tumblr media
subluxation is obviously something we've talked about a lot, seeing as its development has definitely run alongside percy entering his post-war flop era in beasts.
for the uninitiated, it's - in the main - the story of what percy's year of working for the death eater-controlled ministry during deathly hallows looked like.
i think we've both been struck by the fact that pretty much every fic which deals with this question has percy offering some sort of behind-the-scenes resistance to voldemort's regime - maybe not as flashy as that offered by the order members in his family [although, let's be real, what the order actually does in that year is... debatable], but fundamentally aligned with the goodies against evil.
and, i want to be clear, all of the percy-the-resistance-fighter stories i've read have been amazing. but they've still never managed to shake me from my conviction that he probably... didn't do anything substantive against the regime at all. that he just fucked around and then, as the battle of hogwarts approach, began to find out...
and i am choosing to take 'fucking around' literally...
have a little snippet from this month's chapter:
Audrey's gripping his hand.
Her palm is clammy. His isn’t much better.
She was called back from her day off an hour ago. The Minister’s full support staff is assembled in a row against the wall in Meeting Room J. Biagio is crying. Clarice looks like she’s about to be sick.
Rookwood - Mr Rookwood, they have to call him now - is slithering up and down the line, snapping at anyone with wonky knots in their ties or lint on their robes. The hum of chatter rolls in from the Atrium. It sounds warm, the ordinary murmur of people greeting old friends or needling each other over Quidditch rivalries. The staff from the canteen mingle among them with platters of canapes - the Death Eaters have upped the usual standard of refreshments, but perhaps that’s part of pulling off a coup, Percy wouldn’t know - and champagne.
Hands are being shaken, and partners and children are being asked after, and holiday plans are being discussed, and absolutely nobody - not a single, solitary member of the great and the good of wizarding Britain - seems shocked to discover that the entire world has been upended in a matter of hours, on this completely ordinary day.
It's this which is so terrifying, that the Minister didn’t see any of this coming, but everyone else did.
Agnes Skim, who presents the six o’clock news on the WWN, kissed Mr Yaxley on both cheeks and asked if he and his wife were still coming over on Sunday. Mr Selwyn was laughing uproariously at a joke told by one of the Wizengamot’s most distinguished members as he showed him to his seat. Half of the Hogwarts governors are milling around the place, making cheerful conversation with mass-murderers. There are representatives present from Gringotts and St Mungo’s and the Diagon Alley Shopkeepers Guild. The Prophet’s chief political correspondent breezed in five minutes ago, gabbing away to Travers - Mr Travers - like he was an old friend.
Which, Percy supposes, he probably is.
The Unspeakables have crawled out of their domain to greet Mr Rookwood like some conquering hero, miraculously returned from a mission all thought doomed. And, out of all the mundane horrors of that afternoon, it is the sight of Mr Croaker - who sends his father a card every Christmas and complimented his mother on her hat at the last staff party - thumping him on the back and saying ‘bloody wonderful to see you, Gus’ and Rookwood saying ‘likewise, Saul’ and Croaker grinning and saying ‘this is quite the event, isn’t it? I hope he’s paying you overtime’ and Rookwood winking at him and saying ‘I shall pretend not to have heard that’ and both of them collapsing into laughter, which makes tears start to slide down Percy’s face.
But not for long. There is no time to panic, because Rookwood clicks his fingers at them and tells them to line up on the dais in the Atrium, as a hundred camera bulbs flash and blind them. Banners are draped everywhere, and while they show the Ministry’s insignia and not the Dark Mark, the fact that so many people are walking around with rolled-up sleeves makes clear that they are one and the same now.
The only comfort, he thinks, the only comfort, is that - as he looks out at the sea of chairs, signs affixed to them reading Avery - Dolohov - Mulciber - Carrow in elegant calligraphy, he doesn't see one labelled The Dark Lord.
A hush falls over the room as Mr Thicknesse, in magnificent burgundy robes, his hair slicked back, displaying his high forehead, steps on to the dais and places a series of notecards on a lectern. It is so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Percy wonders if the hammering of his heart is echoing in the room.
‘Wizards and witches of Britain,’ says Thicknesse, and there is an outbreak of applause. He holds up his hands to still it.
‘Wizards and witches of Britain. My friends.
‘This afternoon, following a special meeting of the electors, in which they voted unanimously in my favour, I was invited by the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot to accede to the office of Minister for Magic. It was my profound honour to accept the position. I am humbled by your trust in me to steer our great nation through this time of turmoil.’
There is another outbreak of applause, another barrage of camera flashes. And Percy notices that Lestrange is standing at the back of the room, talking to a man who greatly resembles him. Who must, he supposes, be his brother.
‘I have sworn before the court and swear before you now that I will uphold and defend the values - and the dignity - of the Ministry of Magic.’
In the years to come, he will look back and wonder whether he can pinpoint the exact moment when his life changed. If he can unravel a single thread from the tapestry of a hundred thousand ordinary days and follow it back to one pivotal second.
‘But I consider it my duty to go even further. I consider it my duty not only to defend the dignity of the Ministry, but to defend the dignity of magic itself.’
And he will conclude that he can. That he can trace all of it, every single bit of it, back to Rabastan Lestrange leaning forward, and accidentally brushing against Rodolphus Lestrange’s injured shoulder, and Rodolphus wincing - only slightly, but enough to make clear to Percy that he is not a monster at all - and revealing himself to be an ordinary man, who is tired after a long day and who aches.
‘Because are we not tired? Do we not grow weary at the sight of our traditions being torn down and soiled? Do we not feel crushed as more and more of our values are washed away, as the ordinary, hard-working witches and wizards of this country are told that they should be ashamed of themselves for their faith in the might of magic?
‘I will be a Minister for those people. I will be a Minister for those who are proud to be set apart by magic. I will rid them of the filth which pollutes their lives and forces them into compromise and shame.
‘I will bring them something clean and true and refreshing.
‘Something proud.
‘And pure.’

-Ode to Grief- "You are, of course, permitted to visit him," the king says. Pain lances through Gao Jianli's heart, as sharp and fresh as it was on the first day.
"Where is he?" the musician demands, forgetting where he is and who he is speaking to. There is no sword at his throat, no shackles on his wrists. Nonetheless, he knows he is as safe as a fly in a spider's web.
"The gentleman of Yan has been laid to rest outside the city walls." The king's voice is stately and just a touch pained, totally appropriate for the occasion. "The grave is unmarked, an old peach grove stands in place of a monument. Such a loyal man should be commemorated with the fruits of longevity, don't you think?"
Gao Jianli is barely listening, his heart is beating like a drum and his thoughts are galloping. Laid to rest. His beloved Jing Ke is buried in one piece. Not left out in the open to be torn apart by wild beasts, not burned on flaming pyre, the ashes scattered to the four winds. With his body whole and un-mutilated, Jing Ke's spirit will able to enter the afterlife. Gao Jianli will be able to see him again. The musician's hands tighten around his ji zhu, taking comfort in the familiar weight of the lacquered wood. He had not let go of his instrument when the guards dragged him into the throne room, kicking and screaming. Had clung to it reflexively, like a mother with her suckling babe, even while he was consumed by a fear so extreme it had bordered on divine madness. He had been prepared to beg for his life. How could he do so now, when he knew Jing Ke was waiting for him?
The king rises from his dais and walks down the steps. He uses the end of his own silk sleeve to wipe away Gao Jianli's tears. "If it suits you, we can visit his grave today and make sacrifices," the king says gently, "I think it would be very fitting for you to compose a song in his honour."
You want to hear me play. Gao Jianli realises. You want to dip your fingers in my grief and sample it like a fine wine. He feels wild. Like a man-eater. He wants to tear out the king's throat with his own teeth.
Notes under the cut
so the emperor's shadow is living rent free in my head now.
the title is a mix of the movie's chinese title "Ode to Qin" and Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" (yknow. another famous musician who lost one of his senses)
the characterisation of ying zheng is a mix of the movie (i really like the humanising portrayal of qin shi huang) and the historical record which shows that in his early years, he was capable of being very charming, humble and extraordinarily manipulative.
now i want a 5k slow burn where ying zheng is convinced he's in beauty and the beast "im just misunderstood! ur love will redeem me! pls be my pet musician!" meanwhile gao jianli is like "yeah, keep talking, it helps me aim..."
im just going to keep including more and more references from the song of achilles until i get sued
 Gao Jianli plays a guqin in the movie, it should actually be the much older ji zhu which is struck/plucked with a bamboo stick.

happy mollymauk week, everyone! as it's threeleaf day, I thought I'd use this time to spread the word about my fan novel trilogy to any enthusiasts who might not be aware.
The series is called “Devil & The Details”, but it’s more commonly referred to as “Devilverse” for short. The first two books are complete, and the third is currently being serialized.
Linked beneath the cut, we have an epic about Kingsley getting into new trouble on the seas, his captaincy of the Mollymauk, and ultimate rise to the throne of Darktow. While both Molly and Lucien make appearances — along with some other members of the Nein — the story is chiefly about Kingsley and his efforts to forge a unique path for himself. Since this is also a story where all three make an appearance, this trilogy potentially carries the dubious honor of being the longest threeleaf fic on ao3.
The goal of the series was to explore some of the things referenced by Taliesin about the ideas he wanted to explore with both Molly and Kingsley's existences, such as the notion of "soullessness" in mermaids and the philosophical concept of the tabula rasa. The overarching story is also about healing from different kinds of trauma, grief, breaking cycles of abuse, myths and realities of "the pirate's life" and "the resistance" as a concept, accountability, and how T4T love transcends petty things like death and fate. Think Black Sails meets Baldur's Gate with a Candide rising.
CW for: canon-typical violence and gay sex,* gore, mild body horror, frank discussions and depictions of slavery and genocide, cannibalism, suicide (especially in book III), and mentions (but not depictions) of sexual assault.
*There are also two short stories in the series that trend more towards the NSFW/PWP side and are about King and his love interest in the novels; their promo post can be found...
UPDATE: post deleted, flagged by tumblr censors since it's about two trans people in love, lmao.
The novels are written in what could be loosely described as historical fiction style, with other heavy influences taken from 90s anime and camp fantasy. They follow a standard fantasy trilogy setup, with the first book being more plotty, the second more character-driven, and the third currently shaping up to be a mix of the two.
BOOK I: Crowned Teeth (or, An Offering Revoked) [complete, 130,670 words]
We find Kingsley in dire straits after being betrayed by his crew and sold into slavery in the Hespet Archipelago. Breaking out with nothing to his name except a pair of enchanted pistols and a ragtag handful of other escapees, Kingsley vows to see himself avenged upon the leadership of the Tempest Fang.
BOOK II: Wine-Dark Sea [complete, 161,010 words]
With the Fang defeated and Kingsley trying to make things right in their absence, Fjord and Jester accept a quest to uncover a lost relic near the island of Glintshore. With the archdemon Maxima and the Abyssal Plane's intrigue unfolding in the wings, the three of them discover that there is more than what meets the eye.
BOOK III: Home to Roost [in progress, projected 300,000 words]
At long last, Kingsley and the other ex-Revelry members that make up the Diamond-eaters are sailing on Darktow. The long awaited showdown with the Plank King looms, and the archdemon Samiel plots to take the throne from Graz'zt. To his great misfortune, Captain Tealeaf catches the eye of both of them. To protect his new friends and ensure his path to the throne, Kingsley has to call on unexpected allies.
This is very much a labor of love on my end; King, specifically, is very important to me for many reasons. In case we never got the opportunity to explore his life and times on-stream, it was imperative to me that he get at least one story to call all his own.
If you want a proper pirate epic to tuck into, this is it!

~~~~~
The Comeback
Rated G for general. Some swearing and mature content.
Also inspired by a Tumblr prompt. 1st September 1998. Hogwarts. The first school year since the defeat of Voldemort. There is grief, there is hope, there is a dark robed figure in the corner that nobody had expected to see again. A mildly humorous tale with dark undertones. COMPLETE!
~~~~~
The Half-blood Prince

~~~~~
Monsters
Contains implied violence, death, and graphic gore.
One morning Remus wakes to find the thing he fears most in the world. He goes to the only person he can think of who won’t judge him – because Snape already knows what he is. A monster. COMPLETE.
~~~~~
Mostly Smut! **All contain explicit sex**
Seven Deadly Sins
Everyone thinks that Professor Snape covets the position of Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, which is true… in a manner of speaking.
To His Mind
Snupin! Extended version of a scene in The Rat and The Snake. The Order has a mole, everyone is a suspect, but when Severus Snape looks into Remus Lupin's mind, he gets more than he bargained for!
Prince and Crow, the Smut chapters
E for Explicit. Graphic sex.
Basically just all the sex scenes I left out of the main fic! Friends to lovers, becoming increasingly smutty, but also fluffy, as the relationship develops.

Blue Murphy
Bellerophon
chimera-killer, pegasus-tamer, eater of your own soul: icarus flew too close to the sun, but you flew too close to gods who would prefer to remain untouched. could you not find enough joy in being a hero, a husband, a father and a king? olympus will never accept your presence upon its mountaintop, so best quit while you're ahead, before your horse bucks.
Rooney Shepard
Patroclus
clever patroclus, beloved patroclus, poor patroclus: you do fall into madness, nor vanity, nor hubris. not, that is, for your own sake. love for that golden-haired man, sorrow for your countrymen; it is for his name that you don his armor, and for the dying greeks that you ride into battle. every piece of you is willingly given away, even if after you are gone there are wicked things done in your name.
Hunter Delaney
Achilles
best of the greeks, eager for honor, and quick to rage: you could easily live content and easy until you're gray-haired, but glory and fame call for you just beyond the horizon. you are not prone to self-reflection and trip into the same pits of wrath at bruised pride over and over. are you truly ready to sacrifice everything so that your name will be immortalized? is your fury what you want to be remembered for?
Sawyer Beaumont
Arachne
adept arachne, the things which you craft are born from years of careful practice, focused effort, and a drop of divine inspiration. your finished product shows the skills which you have honed over your lifetime, so take pride in that, but don't proclaim yourself a peerless artisan. and, by the gods, show humility when you've been beaten.
Blake Maddox
Cyparissus
young cyparissus, innocent cyparissus, it was all only an accident. your stag, finding relief from the relentless summer sun of Apollo under the forest's trees, did not deserve the cruel wound of your javelin stuck within him, and you did not deserve to inadvertently be the cause of his death. but grief does not care about intent and accidents, does it? even now, your cypress trees cry your mourning tears.
Riley Callahan
Icarus
what is there to be said of icarus? you were warned, yet you persisted, imprudently. but what of your first taste of liberation? the exhilaration that follows the first ray of the sun to touch you as you are, as a free man, makes you drunk on joy. we all know the foolish things that drunken people are capable of. was the fall as thrilling as the flight?

Rewrite tag
Tagged by @kaylinalexanderbooks and @illarian-rambling - thank you!
@kaylinalexanderbooks' snippet:
Jack scrutinized the castle before him. It stretched up, up, up into the sky--and as they were already in the clouds, Jack didn’t want to know how high the tallest tower was above the ground--how he wouldn’t like to be the poor bloke who was defenestrated from it. The castle was made of some sort of dark stone, giving it the unsettling feel of a haunted house. There was the cobblestone path, yes, but on either side of it, Jack realized that yes, they were still on clouds, though where the castle was, the clouds were dark and gray, and when Jack listened closely enough, he realized that there was a booming irregular pulse of thunder that shook the ground ever-so-slightly, enough to cause the stone beneath his shoes to rattle.
My rewrite:
The fact they were already in the clouds made the sheer height of the castle that much worse. Jack didn't even want to know how far the highest towers reached; already his mind was wandering unpleasant places, like how long he could fall if he was unlucky enough to be defenestrated from up there. He didn't recognize the dark stone the building was made of, although he didn't particularly want to, either; it emanated enough of an unsettling feeling Jack thought the answer could only be sinister. The cobblestone path leading up to it seemed firm enough, but on either side, far too close for comfort, there was still nothing but clouds, deceptively solid white and fluffy for something that would drop him like a stone at the first misstep. Under the castle, though, even the clouds turned ominous, dark, grey--and reverberating with forceful booms of thunder, barely audible at this distance, but shaking the very ground under Jack's feet.
@illarian-rambling's snippet:
With a tightness in his chest, Djek got that familiar, sneaking suspicion that he was in way over his head. He’d see it through, of course—his morbid curiosity was always keeping him involved in things normal people would’ve run away from at the first chance. Perhaps he could have a little more caution this time, though. Do a little research. Gods forbid, read something if he had to. It was quite the little maze of secrets he’d found himself in, but he’d make the best of it.
My rewrite:
Djek's chest tightened. Oh, he was in over his head again. Not that that would stop him. Normal people might run away from these situations he seemed to keep finding himself in given half a chance, but his morbid curiosity always ended up getting the better of him. He'd see it through. Perhaps with a little more caution than usual, though. A little research. Some reading even, if absolutely necessary. The secrets twisting around him surely warranted a little extra effort before they could strangle him.
My snippet for you (translated from The king-eaters' grief):
[Fisk is Ignaz' pet Velociraptor, also referred to as a bird here]
They sat down on a bench, and Ignaz showed Muriel how to carefully approach Fisk, how to recognize Fisk was at ease about her presence, and how to stroke through the feathers without disarraying them. It was odd watching the two of them like this. Athanasios himself had never had much of a desire to take care of children, but he didn't have anything against watching one for a while, especially under the supervision of an adulter adult. And Ignaz... he'd never really seen him as a father figure--when they became real friends, his children were already out of the house--but now it truly hit him Ignaz had in fact raised two little ones. When Muriel got bored of petting the bird--far faster than Athanasios would have assumed--Ignaz ordered her to stay within viewing range and sent her off to play.
I was going to keep it shorter but. I figured the first paragraph added some context lkdsjg

you are that which men dream to be: strong, courageous, and noble, with more intelligence than you know what to do with. and, like all men, you do not account for your overabundance of pride. you long for your name to be wrapped in glory and honor, and your journey home is only made longer by your search for fights to win and monsters to trick.

An Eighth Year Fic | Read Chapter 25, 26 | Rated E | 83k | COMPLETE
Excerpt:
“You know, you can’t cure me of this,” Draco said seriously. “I can’t just wake up tomorrow and not have been a Death Eater. I think that part of me will always be horrible.”
Part of me will always be horrible. Harry remembered thinking about that, looking at the part of Voldemort’s soul that had died at King’s Cross. When he’d come back to life, and lost his Parseltongue but retained a kind of emptiness.
“I don’t need you to be cured,” said Harry. “I just need you to want to try.”
The water lapped at their ankles. In front of them, the sun stretched languid and pink below the line of the mountains. And maybe it was just the glow of the sunset, but on Draco Malfoy’s face was something that looked like hope.
Tags: Rated E, Eighth Year, Getting Together, Secret Relationship, Incarceration Policy, Grief/Mourning, chapter-specific warnings in the notes, Fluff and Angst, Sexual Inexperience, Draco and Harry are little shits, this is both a love story, and a story of healing

fe3h support thoughts
Ingrid shouldn't have had an ending with Claude. The Claude Ingrid support is one of the worst support chains in the entire game. Entire thing just rambles on and on. It has the plot and structure of your typical C-B support where the two people start off antagonistic or have a misunderstanding but then come to realize the other person isn't so bad but instead of the usual 2 conversations this takes place over, the Ingrid Claude one drags on and on for FOUR scenes of this nonsense. It's the B support line formula that most of the other B supports use where at first they aren't on the same page but then come to appreciate each other. But for some reason their support just drags on and on and on and it doesn't add the depth you'd expect from an A support.
Ingrid's supports with Ignatz and Raphael where fine, I liked them though I think they could have done more with Raphaels. Loved having the two big eaters of the group have a support but Ingrid could really learn about grief and healthy coping mechanism from Raphael (most of the blue lions could really).
Pretty much all of Hanneman's paired endings should have been platonic. The hanneman supports are so weird in that for the most part they're good and they're all platonic but then halfway through some of the A support it takes SHARP turn and becomes romantic out of NOWHERE, it is incredibly jarring. Like they took a perfectly good non-romantic relationship and shoved in an unwanted romance last second.
I'm going to write a petition to give Flayn female friends. Flayn deserves more women in her life! Not even paired endings I just wish she had more supports with women. Some of her supports with men are very interesting or reveal more about her character but others were kinda just filler and easy could have been replaced with other supports.
I find the Shamir Claude ending funny just for the sheer number of positions of power Claude runs away from. Duke of Riegan? Outta here. Leader of the Leicester Alliance? Sayonara. King of Unified Fodlan? Nope. King of Almyra? My work here is done.
Hapi is the blue lion member of the ashen wolves with more supports with them than the other wolves but she shouldn't be. Thematically I'd argue either Golden Deer or a neutral 4th party like abyss is better for her. Golden Deer is all about outsiders and perceived notions, expanding worldviews and greater perspectives, the truth, and the way the mysteries and histories of the Church, Fodlan, Crests, nobility, the Children of the Goddess, and the Agarthans are all connected. Hapi's life story started because she wanted to leave her isolated village and see the world. Her life was greatly influenced for the worse by both the Agarthans and the Church, its because of both of them that she is where she is. She's technically from the Fodlan continent but she's not really a Fodlander either culturally or in perspective in a lot of ways she's more like Dedue who is from a separate culture. I think the devs made a mistake. Yuri is the one with all the history with Faerghus, he's a Faerghus boy through and through with Farrghus values and Faerghus ties. However since he's house leader the devs wanted to write him as the neutral 4th option when that doesn't make sense for him as a character. He was a part of house Rowe, he and Ashe have parallel stories, he probably knows the inner workings of the Farrghus court and nobility very well. Yuri should have been the Blue Lions support character instead of Hapi.
Sylvain, Ingrid, and Felix are especially close. Due to being the prince but more importantly closing off after the Tragedy of Duscar, Dimitri in recent years hasn't been as close to the others. Dimitri closed himself off after the Tragedy so I can see why he and Sylvain don't have an A support. Also while they knew each other in childhood, living indifferent territories, Dimitri's closest friends weren't Sylvain, Felix, and Ingrid.
Manuela and Edelgard's supports were about religion and how Edelgard initially viewed religious people as weak, relying on religion instead of standing on their own. Manuela shows her how religion can be a personal relationship that can make people stronger. It's one of the more interesting philosophical moments in the game (the others come in some of Claude and Linhard's various supports off the top of my head)
