My love! It’s been so long since I’ve written to you, my apologies. How have you been? I’ve been well. Missions have been stressful. Yes, if it wasn’t already obvious .. I myself am in the Demon Slayer Corps. Although unlike yourself, I am no high rank.

Perhaps that is why I adore you so much. The way that you’re so dedicated to doing what you love, and doing what you can to protect those who cannot protect themselves. It’s honorable. I want to protect you, but I know that you most probably don’t need my protection with how well-known you are across the Demon Slayer Corps.

My apologies, love. I got off-track! Anyways, I do hope you’ve been doing quite alright. Although I know you won’t be able to write to me back yourself, it still feels nice knowing that I can ask you these questions and talk to you as if you’re really writing back and that we’re consistently just exchanging letters back and forth.

It would be really nice if we actually knew one another personally. If we did, I simply wouldn’t need to be writing these letters, and I could instead express my love for you openly.

Would that be so wrong of me? To show you that I love you, even if you don’t feel the same way? I hope not.

LETTER FOR MY LOVER | Tanjiro Kamado x reader .. angst. For one of my best friends, @erikspartnerincrime !

NOTE : this does not follow the original series and its plots. For example, if any demon’s blood gets into a wound they will be turned.

PLOT — Tanjiro is dying. Laying and waiting to accept his fate at the butterfly mansion, he writes one final letter to you. He cannot face you and tell you that he is dying out of fear, and so a letter had been the second best option. You two had been former enemies too..was all the time you hated one another simply lost time?

Tanjiro Kamado smiled brightly at Giyuu Tomioka. “Do you think you know where the demon is?” he questioned the water Hashira curiously. The male he considered a friend turned to look at him.

“I’m quite unsure, to be honest. This demon is sneaky, that’s obvious. I’m sure we’ll find it eventually, don’t worry.” Giyuu ruffled Tanjiro’s hair with the ghost of a soft smile set on his features, however he turned away.

Immediately once he had, a demon lunged at the Hashira. Neither Giyuu or Tanjiro had any time to react, and yet Nezuko leapt in and blocked the demon. She lashed at it, blood sprayed across her .. and into one of Giyuu Tomioka’s open wounds. Giyuu winced, his eyes flying wide.

“Shit, shit..” the Hashira cursed under his breath. Tanjiro and Nezuko were fighting the demon .. but how long would he last? He knew once he turned into a demon that it was over. No.. he couldn’t hurt Tanjiro or Nezuko. He wouldn’t. The male shut his eyes tightly, clenching his fists as he struggled. His whole body .. hurt so bad..

Tanjiro ran over to Giyuu, his eyes wide as he was quite cheerful. “We did it! ..Giyuu?” he questioned, titling his head as Nezuko climbed back into the box she resided in, immediately drifting off to sleep soundly.

Giyuu lunged at Tanjiro, and Tanjiro had no time to react himself. Giyuu pinned him to the floor, baring his teeth with wide and angry eyes.

“Giyuu!” Tanjiro called out. “It’s..it’s me! Tanjiro!” he tried, however his attempts .. had been fatal.

As Tanjiro Kamado lay in the Butterfly Mansion helplessly awaiting his confirmed soon death, he asked for a pen and paper from Kanao Tsuyuri. Kanao had obliged, getting the two items he had requested. Then, he began writing to his lover .. Y/N L/N.

Y/N, darling. I know we haven’t talked in awhile .. I’m no longer on the mission with Giyuu. In fact..something happened. Y/N, I’m going to die. I’m so sorry .. but he was turned into a demon. I tried to stop him, I really did .. but there’s nothing we can do. Shinobu Kocho and Kanao Tsuyuri have both confirmed I am going to die.

Now, I don’t want you crying since I won’t be there anymore. All of the time we spent together was precious, although I wish there had been more time .. we spent most of our lives hating one another, and yet here we are now. I feel guilty that I’m not able to tell you this outright, but I’m scared. I’m scared of what your immediate reaction will be. So .. I’m writing this.

Don’t think that you need to avenge me. Giyuu had been a newly turned demon, and their first instinct is to eat. We both know that. So please don’t hate him. It wasn’t his fault. The blood of the demon we were attacking must have gotten into an open wound he probably had from former battles.

..I really don’t know what else to say. I’m really sorry, Y/N. But I’m not going to allow this letter to be sent until I am dead.

Love, Tanjiro Kamado.

Y/N L/N sat there in disbelief. In their hands held an open letter that they had just finished reading. Tears slid down their cheeks as they mumbled incoherently under their breath.

“No, no!” they began to yell, begging for this to all be a dream. However, they and their dead lover both knew it wasn’t. Tanjiro Kamado was dead.

And they never got to say their goodbye.
