Inuyasha rare pair of your choice:: 29. A kiss ..."as a promise"
Tumblr media
There were many things Kikyou was forced to lock away during her life; so many feelings she had to bury deep within herself in order to fulfill her duty as the Keeper of the Shikon no Tama. There was no room for self-doubt or sorrow just as there was no allowance for real happiness or whimsy.
Purity. It was her prison in life.
But she was no longer alive.
Walking the earth as a phantom, her partial soul confined to a clay body, Kikyou was no longer shackled to the expectations that had once weighed her down. In her death had been release.
Freedom.
All the freedom in the world to do as she pleased, act as she pleased, feel as she pleased.
For the first time in her existence, she could experience the fullness of life as it had been denied to her before. But to live a normal life was as unattainable a wish as holding an ocean. All she could do now was throw herself into the waters, allow herself to bask in it without fear of drowning. (She was already dead, after all.)
She was as much unbound to her duty as she was to the rest of society.
Free to hate.
Free to love.
Even her idea of love used to be confined to what was allowed. What was appropriate. A husband and children and domestic subservience. Those were society’s standards for a woman. A part of her stilled mourned the loss, but a greater part felt a great triumph to escape it. Now, Kikyou no longer cared for their rules or ethics, for their acceptance or respect. How fickle and selfish were their desires and affections.
But she could be fickle and selfish too now. She abandoned propriety. She captured what life she could to sustain herself, threw herself into a revenge-fueled quest for justice, beckoned the half-demon to whom she almost gave her heart and left him without explanation. She didn’t need him as a lover anymore. She didn’t need any man.
And so when it wasn’t a man who piqued her interest, Kikyou no longer buried the feeling, nor did she feel any shame. It wasn’t even difficult for her to wonder why the Wind Sorceress was so captivating to her. After all, she had an affinity for those who craved freedom as she did. A demon. An incarnation of her murderer. Being a woman was laughably inconsequential in comparison.
And because Kikyou was free to do as she wished, she let herself lean into her curiosity without trepidation.
For her part, Kagura had the power to animate the dead, but she had absolutely no control over the resurrected miko. Kikyou was an entirely different existence, and one that Kagura approached with caution. While Kikyou always made quick work of Naraku’s wasps, she allowed the Kagura to survey her without care. Why?
It wasn’t out of fear. If she truly wanted to, the priestess was more than capable enough to overpower the demoness. All it would take was an arrow or two, at least to send her away. But she was able to get near enough, closer and closer until the sorceress practically sat in her shadow.
(It was oddly reminiscent of another time and another love; a whole lifetime ago.)
The conversations came with time. Two even-headed women with winter etched into their veins. It turned out they had more in common than they’d expected. A dislike of crowds, a low tolerance for foolishness, and a vice-like grip on their desire to be free. So it came as no surprise that their mutual attraction was largely fueled by an innate, burning streak of rebellion—a delicious defiance against the half-demon that threatened Kagura’s heart and desired Kikyou’s.
Kikyou could give her affection and time to anyone she chose, and she chose what he saw as his servant. Not him. Never him.
Their companionship was a secret. Hidden behind barriers and nightfall, Kikyou let herself give in to her own desires. Light grazes eventually had them wrapped up together, and it was under a moonless night that Kikyou stole the first kiss.
It felt as scandalous as it did liberating—another part of herself that she’d stamped out awoke; rose from amongst the ashes she was formed by. And Kikyou laughed in the wake of its discovery. Oh, how she’d been so blind. All those days staring at the beautiful girls who got to dress up, and she had desperately believed that she wanted to be them. And certainly that was part of it, but it hadn’t been the full story, had it? So she kissed the Wind Sorceress again, and again, and when she felt Kagura relent and respond, it was a triumph. The fire of rebellion gave way to a different sort of heat—the spark of elation, the warmth of fondness—and they both ended up smiling.
But their circumstances weren’t lost on either woman.
“What does this mean for us?” Kagura asked, a hand on Kikyou’s hip.
“Does it have to mean anything in particular?”
The demoness smirked. “No.” Did she want it to? It was difficult to say. “But I will have to leave in the morning.”
“What will you tell him?”
“That I need to keep an eye on you more,” she replied deviously. “That I have no idea what you’re thinking or planning.”
Another kiss. They were smart women, knowing how to manipulate and keep their secrets close.
“So you’ll be back.” Kikyou said. A request more than a statement or question.
“If he permits it,” she grated. It was the best she could do. Kagura was a caged bird, as Kikyou had once been. Even off to roam, she must return back to her keeper.
Gently, Kikyou traced Kagura’s cheek, studying the firestorm of resentment and defiance in her red eyes, so different from her own and yet like a mirror of their hearts. The priestess found herself drawn in by the color, eventually coming to hover over rouged lips. “I’ll destroy him,” she promised with quiet certainty.
The romanticism of it pulled the sorceress in. In a hot breath she murmured, “I’ll let you,” before closing the gap between them.

ROUND ONE BRACKETS
Are these brackets even readable? I dunno. Either way, here’s the bracket!
Matchups (randomly seeded) under the cut to make them easier to read. Each matchup will last a week.
The winners of each bracket will face each other in one final match to discover who is the ULTIMATE magical boy.
Criteria used to decide who got in: 1) Use magic, or 2) Have a transformation sequence, or 3) Fight with the power of friendship (and sometimes that gun they found on the sidewalk over there) or any of the above combined.
edit: Magikal Nuko Len Len has been disqualified due to the only picture being available being disgusting. Sorry for making people uncomfortable by being ignorant and bad at observation.

I am a little behind, but the prompts from the @inukag-week and just this ship in general have me really inspired! Here’s another drabble that combines the “Intimacy” and “Scars” prompts from days 3 and 4. Under the cut for being a little suggestive, but it’s more an exploration of feelings than anything explicit.
My fill for the day 1 prompt "domestic" is here!
~~**~~
She could see them in the moonlight.
Youkai wounds healed quickly and seamlessly, the skin knitting itself back together until no sign there had ever been a wound there was left, until it was once again perfect and smooth, a canvas that neither time nor the pains of normal life could touch.
But Kagome could see them, every sing one of them, crisscrossing through Inuyasha’s beautiful skin. The cuts on his arms and legs from numerous demon attacks, the big spidery-like mark on his stomach from when Sesshoumaru had run his poisonous claws through him, gashes from Kagura’s wind blades, the remnant burns from fire and poison. She could recall every single battle they had ever had from the marks on his skin, against Naraku and his creatures, against the band of seven, all the way back to the thunder brothers.
She could see, right above his heart, the small x-shaped scar from Kikyou’s arrow.
She always started by kissing that one first. The one that had started it all. The one she knew had hurt most even among all his scars. The one they had healed together. He knew exactly where it was, even if he couldn’t see it anymore, and at first Kagome’s attention to it had left him ashamed and upset, an old pain coming to the surface, decades of hurt that had nearly destroyed them coming to light, but she had insisted, had loved and kissed every part of it, every part of him, until the poison had cleared and old bitterness had been replaced with peace, with trust on her, on them.
She always started with that one, but she showered devotion upon every part of his body, upon all the scars that meant that over and over again they had survived and found their way back to each other, scars that reminded her of all he had sacrificed for other people, of all he had protected, of how kind and strong he was.
Inuyasha hadn’t been used to love and affection, and she had delighted - still did - in the startled sounds she could pull from him, in this warrior’s surrender to softness and pleasure. She had drunk every shiver, every thundering heartbeat, and yet she still felt parched. She didn’t think she would ever have enough of it. She could kiss him for eternity and it would never be enough.
He still shivered as she kissed down his stomach, traced the edges of that spidery scar, and she loved it. She loved how she could pass her lips over the sensitive skin of his inner thigh and feel the muscles jumping under her, hear his surrender in the way he called her name, feel his fingers on her hair, always so gentle.
There were fewer scars on his legs, the moon creating shadows over his perfect skin instead of illuminating a map Kagome had long since memorised, and she loved these two, the reminders that not all had been pain, that there were still parts of them that were whole.
She had them, too, the scars. More than any girl her age in that other world ought to have. More than any of her old friends would be able to understand. Some far uglier than any man in that other world would accept. She wasn’t a youkai, her scars didn’t disappear to the world, they were always there for all to see; and he loved them as much as he loved every other part of her, sometimes perhaps even more.
She knew that, after she was finished, he would shower her with the same care and warmth, and she would look down into eyes that showed as much devotion as hers did as he kissed down her own path of memories of pain and strength. But that was unimportant to her at the moment. She only cared about the moonlight, and the smooth canvas spread out under her.
She would draw her paths in lines of kisses on his skin, and when she finished, she would have a map to the stars.

Sesshomaru & Kikyou shippy ship c:
Taken from meme: [x] ||Accepting|| @blossomingbellflower
Yellow= Not totally on board with this, but mostly there Blue= I'm on board with this Red= Very situationally agree with this
Tumblr media
Reasonings under readmore
I like it platonically= In a general-sense, from reading canon, I feel more platonic, mutual respect vibes from them. I did not really hint much of romance at all between them. I can maybe see general interest/curiosity from him to see a powerful human Miko, but he had respect for her and regarded her as Inuyasha's beloved. As such, I do not really see romantic interest from his side and nor would she have felt anything on her side in canon. HOWEVER, I do ship in rp, therefore yellow checkmark lol
Relationship goals= If regarding their personalities and their demeanor, they mesh together very well. They both have their flaws and areas to grow in, but have the maturity to understand that in themselves and be patient about it with others as well. They can support each other while also simply trusting each other as well. Also, power couple is relationship goals.
Aesthetically it's GREAT= Let's not lie here, both are gorgeous, how can you not think aesthetically it's great?
The impact/their story is more interesting than the ship itself= Like I said in the first bit- canonically I really don't see much basis at all for them to be a couple at all. I just don't. Sesshomaru knowing that Kikyo was once involved with Inuyasha at all would have prevented him from really seeing her in such a way. Knowing how he felt about Toga with Izayoi and what not, Sesshomaru (from my understanding and portrayal of him) wouldn't have thought of it. He would certainly never want for any stigma to follow him around that he may have done so out of spite towards Inuyasha for having Toga's consideration (ie Tessaiga). He's got pride and enough respect for Inuyasha. Story-wise both have integral roles within the plot and that in itself is very interesting.
I like it in theory= Mostly stemming down to how they would mesh well together, but being a couple would be extremely difficult and virtually impossible to do from my standpoint. I in no good faith believe I would be able to write Kikyo and Sesshomaru being a couple in the past timeframe given the baggage he has and how slowly he seems to mature from an emotional standpoint. By the time he gets over some baggage and what not, I dare think Kikyo would've passed on, i'm not gonna front. I sincerely think this. Hence, if I had to write a ship of them in the original timeline, it would have to be an AU or something.
OTP= I thought about it and out of the couples in the series, I think I do like the idea of them the most. Kagura and Sesshomaru are also up there, but hm. While I see what people are going for, I personally don't think that when Kagura died, he had loved her. He felt something for her, like sympathy and respect. He didn't love her (or at the very least he didn't understand/acknowledge that he did). He was disturbed by her death for sure, but I strongly doubt he could've thought that he loved her in a romantic sense. MY BOI IS TOO EMOTIONALLY STAUNCHED AND SLOW FOR THAT, OKAY?????? It took him how many years to even realize that huh humans can be okay? Wow maybe I do like having some around. I don't want them to die. Wow is this what feeling the need to protect something feels like? You gon' tell me a boy who took so long to realize this can figure out he loves someone in so little time? Don't EVEN. So yeah, Kikyo and Sesshomaru won out slightly. I went on a tangent, whoops
Would do/read fanfic about it= I wrote a drabble thing about it before so that should count. Kikyo and Sesshomaru both being characters with significant screentime, it isn't that hard to really dig into things and possibly come up with something good. It's a lot harder to do for lesser showing characters (ie Daemon and Elena, hence I didn't mark it in theirs). I wouldn't read though. I'm extremely picky when it comes to reading fics of a muse I write for.
I'm open to it= As one can imagine from my previous answers, i'm VERY situationally okay with being open to them. It really depends on circumstance and timing. Certain aspects can make it a lot harder for me to consider them as a ship in good faith to their characterization. If done well, I really do think they'd work well //motions to our ship that is coming along rather nicely. Another reason why i'm very situationally okay with it is that I swear, i've been approached by so many other Kikyo blogs and it's like they lowkey try to throw her at him and then get turned off when he's just-- stoic emotionally staunch boi. HELLO? You should know his brand. You expect him to be suave and cool? AYO YOU DON'T KNOW HIM THEN. I'm for srs. Different story when it's modern verse or something tho, I can forgive if there were some expectations there. Doesn't help that I've had issues with other Kikyo blogs so i'm very jaded lol.
Fandom ruined/is ruining them= I mean, I chose this very loosely, but also not. Truly, the franchise itself did Kikyo no favors in regards to the anime. The fandom that 'knows' her from the anime ruin her bc of their misunderstandings of who she is and what she stood for. Then there is the... you know. The thing we don't name or talk about. That very much ruined the SessKik ship in ways lol You can never convince me that's canon.

Hello~ hello~ ^^
For that ask post - how about Inuyasha? <33
Hey, Mirka!! ^^
Fandom: Inuyasha
Favorite Character: Kagome Higurashi, used to draw her a lot, with Inuyasha ofc
Least Favorite Character: Since there's a lot of characters in Inuyasha, we should focus on the main and supporting cast, so...I guess Akitoki Hojo? He's just so....bland and annoying. Not to mention his ancestor just tried to kiss Kagome in her sleep. E w
5 Favorite Ships: InuKag OFC, MirSan, SesshKagu, SesshKik (to a degree), and NarKik(to an even lesser degree, like crackship levels)
Character I Find Most Attractive: Kagome. Hands down.
Character I Would Marry: Kagome. She is WIFE MATERIAL ✨
Character I would Be Best Friends With: Sango. Get you a gal pal like Sango, supportive and capable of fighting off demons :D
A Random Thought: If you fucked Sesshoumaru during his dog form, it's totally bestiality, right?
An Unpopular Opinion: I'm not that fond of Shippou. Also, I was a fan of Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha being pretty good brothers fics.
My Canon OTP: Inuyasha X Kagome
My Non-Canon OTP: Sesshoumaru X Kagura
Most Badass Character: Sango. Forgot the specifics of how she got "killed" but she was buried alive and dug herself out and immediately went out for vengeance. Also, her weapon is awesome. She's strong, powerful, and really pretty. I love it when she has her hair up in a ponytail and .... Guys, I think I have a type.
Pairing I Am Not A Fan Of: InuKik (Inuyasha X Kikyo) Bro, I swear Kikyou would have been a tragic character and I could have cared even a bit for her relationship with Inuyasha if both her and the ship didn't feel so shallow??? And you can make the argument that that's the point ✨ "Their love is meant to be shallow, destructive, and immature!" then every instance of "Inuyasha loved Kikyou the most 😔" in the show is NULL because he clearly did not ???? Rant over.
Character I Feel The Writer Screwed Up In One Way Or Another: Miroku being such a sleeze was a turn off from an otherwise great character. Please everything except that.
Character I Want To Adopt Or Be Adopted By: I'd like to adopt Rin. Would probably be fun.

In InuYasha Movie 2 Castle Beyond the Looking Glass holds a much deeper history than just being the story of battling Kaguya. Within a small scene it's noted that when Naraku and Kaguya go face to face they already knew eachother especially considering they already had similar absorbtion powers. Not many delve deeper into the confrontation but clearly there had to be much more that had happened between the two. The true story between Kaguya and Naraku was not only a conflicting one but also one with a lustful romance. 50 years ago Onigumo was a bandit well known for his leadership and cunning plots. In the year of 1444 a female demon searching for the power of the heavens managed to overthrow and absorb the Celestial princess Kaguya. She stumbled upon the Bandit Onigumo through her mirror and watched over him, amazed that such a human could reach such feats as a bandit, slaughtered villages and created his own bandit army. Onigumo then suffered in a fire and was taken into a cave by the Priestess named Kikyou. Onigumo was offered a major deal by a spider demon to give him a new life as Naraku, combining their bodies allowing him mobility and strength. Kaguya noticed a flicker of jealousy inside of her because Naraku appeared interested in Kikyou, still she had overheard his plan against InuYasha and Kikyou. It was not her time yet to step in. After Naraku had tricked InuYasha and Kikyou against one another Kaguya gently approached Naraku in a manner to flatter him and take his heart. Naraku ultimately had seduced her in return. With Kaguya and Naraku as the Oniduo nothing could stand between the webs that bound them until... A Monk by the name Miyatsu who was Miroku's grandfather held many traits in common with one another. That being a womanizer. He approached the beautiful woman in the midst of a full moon night. Beyond her cosmetic appearance he had sensed a great evil from the celestial being. She was alone without her spider demon as he was on the search for absorbing more demons to increase his various abilities for his future plans to overthrow villages in quick blows. Miyatsu had apologized that he had to quickly dispose of such a beautiful looking woman but who was really a demon and used a sacred sutra specifically for demons of her kind like Naraku. He managed to seal her away and continued on with his duties. Naraku had acquired new abilities in the timeframe from absorbing even more demons. Shortly after he had noticed the lingering demonic presence of his maiden was no longer present. He returned to the place where Kaguya had resided and witnessed the monk Miyatsu but Kaguya was no where to be seen. Angered by what the monk had done to her, Naraku plotted and disguised himself as a beautiful woman and cursed Miyatsu with the wind tunnel for him to meet his death. Not only did Naraku curse Miyatsu for doing wrong to Kaguya but he had cursed his entire blood line of descendants including Miroku. 50 years later Kagome came through the well and awoken InuYasha from the sacred arrow. Naraku had done wrong to many people, he sought after collecting all pieces of the Sacred Shikon Jewel to rain supreme. He overthrew a castle and took position as a Lord. There he still continually thought of Kaguya and wished there could be a way to bring her back to his world. He grew with hatred and fed on others as his nourishment for revenge. Naraku created several incarnations one in which particular in his mind he wanted to be similar to Kaguya, as if it was their children. He made Kanna and gave her the abilities to use her mirror just like Kaguya would with hers. Given Kanna a white appearance like the moon itself, something that Naraku remembered was dear to Kaguya. He also made her older sister Kagura, both with similar names to Kaguya. Having similar dark hair and parted bangs like hers. He gave Byakuya illusion powers, another similarity to Kaguya. Hakudoushi meaning "White Child" based off being a moon child and Byakuya meaning "White Night". Kagura however wanted to be free and noticed how more and more distant and unfair Naraku had become from her and Kanna. She wanted to live her own life without being scared to make her own decisions. She wanted to become the wind. Kagura stumbled upon the leftovers of Kaguya and took up the time to find all the pieces to break the seal on her. Kagura had major plans in mind to pit Kaguya and Naraku against one another in an all out battle. She would use Kikyou being revived as a perfect reason to feed Kaguya's hatred. Kagura lied and told Kaguya that Naraku managed to purposefully resurrect Kikyou in order for them to be with one another but that when Kikyou was revived she didn't agree to any sort. Kagura went onto explain that Kikyou gave her one of the items they used to revive her, called "the stone bowl of buddah" without hesitation as they were not enemies. Kikyou's only true enemy was Naraku. Kaguya was furious of this and said not only would she take over the world but also absorb Naraku herself so he would not be able to leave her. Ever. InuYasha and his group fought Kaguya. Kagura and Kanna double crossed Kaguya with only a matter of seconds of being paralyzed and sent to an unknown realm. Naraku had emerged from Sango's brother Kohaku. There the two demons fought one another to see who would absorb who. Of course neither were the victor in a battle of three seperate teams. Naraku fled and InuYasha's group escaped the breaking tower. However Kaguya still lived inside her own mirror in complete isolation. Kaguya continues in her own mirror of stillness. Original theory and story by InuYasha Takahashi

Written for Femslash Feb on the Inuyasha-mothership discord! Fun to be playing in the Inu-world again. Kikyou and Kagura are a pairing I've never really considered before but make a TON of sense when I think about it, so I hope I've done them justice here.
Warnings for UST, blood, Naraku being super creepy as usual, etc.

The Portal Between Worlds (features KaguKik; E; complete) by @neutronstarchild
Ten years ago, a portal transported Inuyasha from the demon realm to the human realm. Now a half-demon alone in a world he doesn't understand, he will do anything to get home. When Onigumo brings him a book with all the answers, Inuyasha pushes aside his misgivings and works with the man. He just wants to get home, after all.
Kagome just wants to make an extra buck (and find demons), much to Kikyo’s chagrin. That is why she published Demons Among Us! after all. But strange things start happening when she puts the book online. As if people are using it to open the portals that it hypothesized… When Kagura and Sango join the fray, the stakes grow higher as they try to find the source of the portals.
When Inuyasha encounters Kagome, fate is not what it seems. Not one, but two realms are in danger for their survival. What happens when the final portal opens and an unknowable terror is unleashed? Can the Demon Hunters save the world?

I am going to glut!
9,10,J,K ♠️
♠️ - Sesshoumaru x Kagura
9 – Give a dark premise for them
what even is a dark premise their canon interactions are already pretty dark to me but ok Kagura working on Naraku's orders to monitor and spy on Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru immediately identifying her scent and capturing her to torture her for information.
10 – Give a fluffy premise for them
I'm a massive slut for hurt/comfort y'all!!! Have a short WIP excerpt from a future chapter in Obligatory:
Her body was still drenched in pain.
It hurt even to have her eyes open.
But still, Kagura snickered. Her throat was still not cooperating but she whispered. "You can't be falling in love with me or something, are you?"
His hand was warm where it lay cradled gently against her neck, and this close, she could smell the clean fresh scent of the laundry detergent that he used to wash his clothes.
His eyes were hooded as they travelled slowly across her face, peering at her through his long lashes. What was her face looking like? Was it studded with cuts and bruises? Why was he looking so...worried?
His eyes locked with hers.
Shimmering, burning, molten gold.
Her heartbeat thundered in her ears. Had he leaned closer?
"And if I said yes?"
The sleeping aids were starting to work. Kagura could feel the heavy pull of her eyelids as the energy sapped from her body.
"Fool." She whispered, even as she reached out with her good hand to pull him in.
Yes, 'fool'.
That's what she was.
She pressed her lips to his.
J – Give a smutty premise for them
AAAAAAAAAHHHHH I've been thinking of an AU where Sesshoumaru is a stripper and escort who gets hired by Kagura for whatever reason, and they get really attracted to each other for real kjshfkjdh
K – Who’s their “third” (for an OT3?)
Kikyou!! The aesthetics of that!!! Can y'all imagine!!! 😣😣😣❤️

“Hanyou No Yashahime” Tripartite Cast Talk
Matsumoto Sara X Komatsu Mikako X Tadokoro Azusa
Inuyasha and Kagome’s daughter and Sesshomaru’s two daughters play an active role in “Hanyou No Yashahime”. As an original anime with no original work (translator’s note: As in not an adaptation of something like a manga or light novel), the subject is the next generation of “Inuyasha” done in the same style. Being “Inuyasha” fans themselves, we had the three lead voice actresses talk about the charm of the series.
The main character design was done by Takahashi Rumiko!
Towa
A 14-year-old middle school girl. 10 years ago, she time traveled from the Feudal Era to the Modern Era and became the adopted daughter of Kagome’s little brother, Souta. Upon reuniting with her younger twin sister, Setsuna, after she time travels to the Modern Era with Moroha, Towa decides to return to the Feudal Era. She is Sesshomaru’s daughter.
Setsuna
14 years old. Towa’s younger twin sister. A member of the demon slayers led by Kohaku. She has lost her memories of her childhood and is unable to fall asleep. She has the gold rainbow pearl in her left eye. While she does not believe Towa is her older twin sister, she travels with her as she tries to take back Setsuna’s memories and sleep.
The 3 of you reacted shocked with “What you mean daughters?!”
Moroha
Commonly known as “Monster Killer Moroha”. A 14-year-old bounty hunter. When she puts on rouge stored in a shell with the red rainbow pearl on it, she becomes “The Country Destroying Beniyasha” and goes on a rampage. While she is Inuyasha and Kagome’s daughter, she does not know her parents and has lived mostly on her own apparently.
Komatsu: When the work was announced, the world was shocked like “Sesshomaru has a daughter?!” and we were the same. When I opened the audition documents, it was written that the setting takes place over 10 years after the conclusion of the original work and that Setsuna, who I was auditioning for, is Sesshomaru’s daughter. I thought “What does this mean?” and reflexively grabbed the last volume of the manga.
Matsumoto: I was handed Takahashi Rumiko-sensei’s character design and a simple correlation diagram. In regards to Towa, who I auditioned for, it was also written that all that was known was that she is Sesshomaru’s daughter. I was given lines without knowing the context or anything so I wondered what to do. However, at the same time, I was so happy to the point that I was like “The “Inuyasha” world is coming back!”
Tadokoro: I completely freaked out (laughs). Also, my manager knew I was big fan of “Inuyasha” and calmly told me before I looked at the audition documents “Azusa, you absolutely can’t miss out on this. This a huge opportunity.”
Komatsu: A lot of pressure!
Tadokoro: Then when I looked at the documents, I saw that Moroha, who I was auditioning for, was the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome. After getting excited like “They had a child~!”, I saw Towa and Setsuna and screamed “I will be upset if they’re not XX’s children!” (translator’s note: they’re referring to the mother)
Komatsu and Matsumoto: I know!
Tadokoro: As a fan, I worried endlessly but as a voice actress, I thought I couldn’t miss out on this. However, when I went to the studio audition, I was told “Keep the base but try to say these lines a little more like a middle-aged man”. I became flustered like “Even though she’s a 14-year-old girl?” … I felt like I didn’t respond properly and was really down going home.
Komatsu: Me too. Maybe it was because I was pulling too strongly from Sesshomaru’s image but I was told “Not only coolness but we would also like for you to show the cuteness of a 14-year-old” and I couldn’t make the switch the very well. I didn’t get the reaction that I got the part at all.
Matsumoto: I over considered the setting of (Towa) wearing a boy’s uniform and I was told “Don’t make her a boy”. After that no matter how many retries I did, the direction I took didn’t match up… I cried a lot when I got home like “I totally bombed it”. That moment, I realized that I had really wanted the part and was surprised. “Inuyasha” was a work that was more special to me than I thought.
Overcoming different boundaries, their feelings melt together
Komatsu: For me, “Inuyasha” was also a textbook on love. Especially the relationship between Inuyasha, Kagome, and Kikyou. It’s a little hard for kids to understand and I thought, “Why does Kikyou always get in the way?” and “Inuyasha too, make up your mind” but in a certain scene, Kagome asks Inuyasha “I… What exactly am I to you?”. In between the feelings of it can’t be helped that he overlaps her face with Kikyou’s and this has nothing to do with her, she properly checked what her existence meant to him. Seeing that, I realized. Not only in love but that’s important in life in general as well.
Tadokoro: It’s so cool isn’t it? She acknowledged all her feelings of jealousy and hate towards Kikyou and still saved her on top of that. She showed us her resolve to properly face her heart and Kikyou and accept them. It was so cool that I cried. Then when I became an adult, I came to understand Kikyou’s feelings and it hurt.
Matsumoto: Well she was also a victim… I think when you read “Inuyasha”, you become emotionally attached to each individual character because depictions that give you a sense that they’re “alive” are inlaid in all sorts of places. For example, the scene in volume 1 where Kagome offers food to Inuyasha whom she had just met. While Inuyasha makes his wariness known, he takes a bite of the radish in the next frame. I always laugh like “Even though you say it’s annoying, you’re still eating it!” but at the same time I feel that it’s really “like” him. From those ordinary depictions, over time we accept “something” without realizing it. That accumulation turns into a big emotion that overflows when you get to the important scenes.
Komatsu: At times when those complexly wrapped emotions sublimate, even sad endings become beautiful. For example, Kagura. Even though she was born from Naraku, she was guided to good through Inuyasha and the others who were supposed to be her enemy. Kagome and Kikyou’s relationship too but ally or enemy, good or evil, all sorts of borders are crossed and seeing drawings of humans and demons coming together I think is the charm of “Inuyasha”.
We haven’t been told the answers to the mysteries
Matsumoto: Continuing onward to “Hanyou no Yashahime”, the character I play, Towa, passed through space-time and got sent to the Modern Era at age 4. However, possibly because she was raised by Kagome’s little brother, Souta, even though she is Sesshomaru’s daughter, I feel like she’s also similar to Kagome.
Komatsu: While blood inheritance is important, the person who raised you has a big influence as well. Also, what environment you were raised in. Setsuna lost her childhood memories due to certain circumstances. So of course, she doesn’t remember her older twin sister, Towa, whom she got separated from at 4 years old. Due to that hole and being raised in an environment where you could be killed by anyone at any time, she gives off an air of not allowing others to get close to her. But just when you think that, there are times where you can feel that she’s actually kind and that makes it heartrending.
Matsumoto: Feeling she (Towa) needs to fill in the 10-year void with Setsuna who became like that, the highlight is seeing their relationship change as Towa closes the gap between them. Add Moroha in and there’s a lot of chattering.
Tadokoro: Moroha speaks in a vulgar manner (translator’s note: it actually translates to abusive language but abusive didn’t sound right to me) but in reality, I have a feeling that she truly enjoys traveling with the two of them. To her, those two are probably the first friends she has ever had. That form is so precious and I feel lonely when I wonder what sort of environment she grew up in. I wonder why she’s desperately earning money by slaying demons. We were only told who she was raised by but at this time, we have not been told things like happened to Inuyasha and Kagome.
Matsumoto: This includes who Towa and Setsuna’s mother is. This is something fans have been wondering the most but the answers will be revealed eventually and I have faith that this work will properly continue on what was drawn in “Inuyasha”.
Tadokoro: That’s why we would like everyone to watch over them until the very end and love the 3 Yashahimes as they survive with each of their individual strengths.
Komatsu: While there are a lot of cheerful episodes, there will be times when the inlaid depictions within those episodes will be collected in an instant which I think people will enjoy. For that, we will give it our all!
We Asked Takahashi-sensei!
Q: What did you especially focus on when doing the character design?
A: Series composition writer Sumisawa (Katsuyuki) requested me to draw the image of Towa as a white Sesshomaru and Setsuna as a black Sesshomaru. Upon reading the scenario, I designed them incorporating their father’s facial look. Moroha was the same, being Inuyasha and Kagome’s child. As such, I made it so that Inuyasha’s mischievousness came through.

Kagura x Adonis Parallel
I’ve read a lot of posts about the flower field where Kagura died. Those theories said that those flowers recieved the name of Anemone, and its origin comes from the Greek mythology of Adonis.
Tumblr media
Following the Greek Mythology, Adonis was a handsome human man, born from an incestuous relationship between his father, the King of Syria called Theias and his daughter, Myrrha. The King Theias used to brag that his daughter was much more beautiful than Aphrodite, but Aphrodite after hearing it decided to take revenge over him by making Myrrha fall in love with her father. The princess under the love spell of Aphrodite, laid with Theias after hiding her identity from him. What she didn’t expect is that she would get pregnant. When Theias learned that he was tricked, he hunted down his daughter in order to kill her, but failed in his attempt because Myrrha was turned into a tree (the Myrrh Tree) by the Gods. By the tree form of Myrrha, Adonis was born.
Having the beauty of his mother, Adonis was considered a very handsome man and a great hunter, being envied by the Gods Ares and/or Artemis. He was the love interest of the Godess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite and died in her arms after being attacked by a wild boar (sent by Ares or Artemis) during a hunt. By the mixture os her tears and his blood, the Anemone flower were born, and by the drops of his blood that reached the nearby river, the Adonis River was created.
When his spirit went to the Underworld, Aphrodite plead to Hades, the God of the Dead and the King of the Underworld, to let Adonis return to her, but Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Springtime, denied Aphrodite’s request, since she was also in love with Adonis. Aphrodite didn’t accepted Persephone’s decision and went to Zeus, that intervened in her behalf. It was agreed that during 2/3 of the year he would share his time in the Underworld with Persephone and on Earth with Aphrodite. The other 1/3 of the year left should be spent as he pleased, and he would always choose to spend it with Aphrodite.
After being resuscitated, he became a God, known as the God of Beauty, Fertility and Permanent Renewal. And in some places, like Egypt, he is also known as the God of Resurrection.
So, if we compare Adonis’ mythology with Kagura’s story, we have some points in common:
1. Their parents
Adonis was born from human parents and Kagura was created by a hanyou (Naraku, who was a human before giving his sick body to youkais to devour) with the help of a human miko (Kikyou) as said by Naraku himself (I don’t recal the episode/chapter that he did it statement, though).
In Hanyo no Yashahime, we see a version of Kikyou as the Tree of Ages (Treekyo) and in the myth of Adonis, his mother also became a tree (Myrrh tree).
Tumblr media
And we cannot forget that Naraku and the King Theias tried to kill the woman who helped they concieve their offspring.
2. The anemone
The flower anemone has three different colors and meaning:
White anemone flowers symbolize sincerity due to their delicate appearance.
Red and pink anemone flowers symbolize death or forsaken love.
Purple anemone flowers symbolize protection from evil.
When Kagura was dying, we see a field of white anemones, but the flowers beneath her and the petal that reaches Sesshoumaru are red because they are drenched with her own blood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just like Adonis, Kagura dies in the presence of her love interest.
Tumblr media
3. The Adonis River
Kagura and Adonis death have a connection to a river. It was said that Adonis died near a river that recieved his name after his blood touched it’s water. When Kagura was dying, she flew near a river that resembles Adonis River (now named Nahr Ibrahim, located in Lebanon).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And even if Kagura’s body was far from the river, Kanna did a memorial with her fan, dropping it in the bottom of a river, so by doing it, a part of her entered in contact with water.
Tumblr media
4. Underworld
Now, this part is not fully connected to Kagura, though. With Kagura’s death, her soul/spirit was still around in the form of the wind (but it was before the memorial did by Kanna). And when Adonis died, his spirit went directly to the Underworld.
In InuYasha, Sesshoumaru was the only one capable of entering the Underworld, since he carried the Tenseiga (a sword capable of bringing back the dead to life) and Aphrodite also could enter into the Underworld to claim for her lovers return, even if she could not bring him back to life thanks to Persephone request.
5. Resurrection
The last time we heard about Kagura in InuYasha, she was pretty much dead. But some watchers of Hanyo no Yashahime claims that Kagura is indeed the mother of the twins (Towa and Setsuna) and the legal wife of Sesshoumaru. But in order for this to happen, Kagura should be brought back to life and if we follow the Adonis myth, the only way for this to happen is if some powerful youkai (if we go after the line of thinking that youkai could be a representantion of God in this parallel) intervenes for her, even if it doesn’t mean she could be all the time hanging on Earth, just like Adonis couldn’t.
In my point of view, the only one with the capacity of doing so would be Sesshoumaru’s mother, since she holds a meido stone that can open a portal to Hell  and bring someone back to life that already died twice (and her kingdom is located in the sky... I mean, why couldn’t she be Zeus in this parallel, right?).
Tumblr media
But then, the role of Hades and Persephone would be left aside. Perhaps Kirinmaru could be related with one of those two figures and that is why Sesshoumaru approached him...
Tumblr media
I mean, in the Greek mythology, there are five rivers that connects to the Underworld and the first time we saw Kirinmaru he was inside a ship on a river... And this could be the representation of the Acheron river, also known as the river of woe.
Observation: I am truly sorry for my english typos. Since this post was a long one, I am certain that I did many mistakes.
I would also love to know your thoughts. If I really did go off-board with this theory and if you guys found another parallels to add on, let me know! It was really fun to write it, even if I sound like a crazy person. LOL
