because no one else is fucking writing it up on tumblr and i want to remember this bonkers moment: for those who doesn't use tiktok or twitter/just haven't come across it, kate middleton has been "missing" for two months (last photographed on christmas) because she was supposedly at the hospital (later at home, somehow leaving the hospital without being seen) recovering in privacy from a "planned abdominal surgery" (that despite being "planned" she needed to suddenly cancel her engagements for), which is fine, but the total lack of photographs/video and history of coverups and mistreatment in the royal family made people suspicious and ask for proof of life (just a photo, the royal family is constantly being photographed), which didn't happen for 70 days, when a single photo of probably-Kate being driven by her mother popped up, but the photo was so grainy it didn't convince some people.

now today the internet is on fire because they finally posted a high-res photo of her with her kids (sans William, supposedly he took the photo), except it's so clearly-yet-subtly photoshopped around her head that it almost looks like AI generated it. people immediately started tearing it apart and then several media outlets (including AP) put out notices to their partners not to share the photo because even THEY believed it had been edited. so the royal family had to put out a statement, right? well the statement from kate's twitter (supposedly written by her, except we know from harry that they would put out press statements "signed by him" that he had never seen) says "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing", making the story that kate herself photoshopped a different head on the picture to idk, hide her wrinkles or something (hilarious notion that she would do this instead of someone on pr, especially when the photographer was supposed to be WILLIAM but now she's taking the fall), and then she signed it with the letter "C" (her full name is Catherine with a C), which as far as I can tell is something she does very occasionally (the last time she did it before this photo and the following photoshop statement that i could find is another family photo on christmas last year), but it's as if they're trying to affirm that trust us bro, kate is the one tweeting.

also now there's articles being posted about william's alleged mistress and out of nowhere there's a supposed paparazzi photo of kate driving around when days before the british media said they weren't going to post anything of her until she returned to royal duties, almost like they got the greenlight to do damage control. anyway people should get time to recover from surgery but this whole thing is either shady or ludicrous.

Jewellery like this is usually inherited buy can also be bought or even given as a gift. There is three kinds of jewellery in this instance: private, owned by the crown or owned by the state.

Private jewellery is owned by a single person and worn or lent at their own descretion. Private jewellery can be no less grand than state owned jewellery. This jewellery can be inherited by anybody the owner chooses.

State jewellery is not privately owned, it belongs to the country itself. It is not inherited but used by royal family. If a royal family is deposed, the jewellery remains with the state. Such as the French Crown Jewels.

Owned by the Crown means that it can only pass monarch to monarch, worn only by consorts or the monarch and lent to anybody they choose.

Noble jewellery is not quite the same. Much of it is owned privately but there may be one or two pieces designated as official jewellery for the title such as a specific tiara.

The Rules

Jewellery like this are not just trinkets to be borrowed by anybody. Usually the monarch (or titled noble) or sometimes the spouse, is in charge of designating who can be lent which pieces and for what occasion. Even if you are a super close member of the family, you still have to take what's on offer. Sometimes certain jewellery is worn exclusively by a certain rank say the Queen or the noble themselves and would not be offered to anybody else. For example, you will note that into today's royalty you will see certain royals repeating the same tiaras such as Kate Middleton who has only worn the Cambridge Lover's Knot, the Strathmore Rose Tiara, the Lotus Tiara and once, the Cartier Halo Tiara. Certain collections are meant to be passed on, such as the Consort's jewels but many Dowager refused to pass on their jewels such as Empress Dowager Maria Feodorovna after the death of Tsar Alexander III.

Treasure Trove

Now, just because a family has a throne or a grand title doesn't mean they have caches of jewels. Many noble families sold off their pieces to pay death duties, most only have a few pieces left today. As for tiaras most noble families would not have access to large quantities, usually only affording one or two. The Spencers for example own two, the Spencer Tiara and the Spencer Honeysuckle Tiara. This is an inaccurate protrayal in Downton Abbey, as the family have at least 6 but then again Cora is a Dollar Princess so it could be possible to own as many but it never made sense considering just how many times they almost loose the estate and never sell any off. While she certainly got on well with her father and mother-in-law, there was perhaps also a sense that William and Kate got on with them even better – and sometimes even gossiped about the Sussexes over dinner, as Harry suggested in Spare. Kate was also adored by the late Queen for the very reasons Scobie seeks to denigrate her in Endgame. She was “coachable”, “comfortable in her role” and “willing to bring the requisite smile and elegance to her duties as princess”.

Despite being comparatively less charismatic and an inferior public speaker, Kate was loved by the public for “never putting a foot wrong” – and carrying the mystique of someone who has never given much away about themselves. She was also a renowned clothes horse – and as a self-styled trend setter, the endless focus on her wardrobe appears to have irritated Meghan, who subsequently complained she had less help with her clothes and was forced to wear muted tones – even though she appeared in a vast array of colourful outfits.

It perhaps can’t have helped that when Kate was first introduced to Meghan’s best friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney, “she fangirled like crazy”.

Apparently the final season of The Crown isn't very good which is..... massively disappointing.

The general buzz is that the narrative pusses out and is terrified of portraying anyone as less-than-flattering, which UGH. Like as a writer I always really admired the writing in The Crown for how it balanced out the unsympathetic with the sympathetic with people who could easily be portrayed as simply monstrous. Like even Margaret fucking Thatcher ended up being a layered, complex character who had more going on for her than just plain villainy. But it still stopped short of making excuses for her. That is some incredibly skilled writing.

I know the issue of where to end it is a tricky one, but I always thought William and Kate's wedding would be the right spot, because it's the cycle repeating itself and another generation setting itself up for more absolute bullshit, end it with an ominous note amid the jubilation.

I want to get a good portrayal of why William is so fucked up and turned out being such a piece of shit. I mean, like father like son (like grandfather like great-grandfather), but still. Obvs, there's the messy Charles-Diana divorce, Diana's death, and then William being intensely sexualized when he was a teenage heartthrob, like yeah I can def see how that will fuck with you.

And then there's the fucking Middletons. I always found the whole narrative of Meghan being "Princess Pushy" funny because EVERY time I read anything about Kate's mother before Meghan came into the picture it was that she was a pushy social-climber who pressured her daughter into marriage. For real there's a lot you could dig into with Kate.

You don't even have to get into Meghan because honestly? the fractures were there long before she came into the picture.

AND I WANT AN EPSTEIN STORY LINE. I WANT IT SO BADLY. AND IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

So I have been following along quietly for a few months now. Not gonna lie, pretty burnt out on all of this. Pretty much at the point where the BRF needs to shit or get off the pot when it comes to Harry and Meghan. Strip the titles and give the US Gov a strict ultimatum, the UK or THEM. Take them off the royal website and shut down any and all connection to them for good.

I will tune in if there is a divorce. No way in HELL would I miss that. Especially since I have been dying for one since May 20, 2018.

As for the new book and Omid once again showing his true colors...yeah we all knew that was going to happen. I knew in advance this book was going to be a total dumpster fire and a pile on Kate. Don't need insiders or a psychic to tell me that...

However, it never crossed my mind he would claim Kate was one of the royal racists. I truly didn't think he, nor Meghan, would go that low. But alas, I was wrong.

I figured he would call out Charles as one of them but I thought he would claim William was the other.

Remember also, Meghan claimed that there were MANY conversations held regarding Archie, although according to Harry this was before Meghan was even pregnant and Meghan was never part of these conversations.

Back in 2018 before the wedding, we all know Kate was pregnant with Louis. Now I can see Harry inquiring about Kate's pregnancy and what it was like to prepare himself for future fatherhood. I can also see a conversation happening in regards as to who this potential baby would take after looks like since George looks like Mike Middleton and Charlotte looks like William. Heck, this conversation could have happened before he even proposed to Meghan.

What I can see happening is a casual conversation between Harry and Kate being mentioned to Meghan where Harry says "yeah we talked about what the baby would look like" and Meghan turning that into it being racist. Then over time the exaggerations begin and the next thing we know, Meghan has claimed on Oprah that skin tone was brought up and she was there...even though later corrected her saying it was before she was ever pregnant and she wasn't there.

So that's my thought on that...

As for Omid...

The biggest issue with him denying that he NEVER wrote the names of the royal racists and that it was a "translation error" is something he got right from the book of Meghan. Deny till you die or until they actually find proof you're lying.

Omid has already been caught lying under oath and he got a free pass. He is taking a page out of Meghan's book and expecting people to forget that he is a habitual liar or that he "misremembered" what actually happened.

However, we have the actual translator coming out and saying that the book she received included the names and that she did NOT mistranslate the book. All this woman needs to do now is show her copy of the manuscript she received (hopefully she still has it) and we have proof once again Omid lied.

Guaranteed though he will claim that the publisher must have been the one to change the manuscript and he is innocent...

Which either scenario leaves him without credibility or any future jobs because no publisher or network will touch him after this...

Some of you may have picked up this link. And it may be raising unnecessary concerns. I read an account by a former patient who clearly indicated that the hospital policy is no children. This is believed to be because they carry germs etc from school exposure that could spark other secondary infections amongst some of the other critically ill patients.

My view on this is that there is always face time and I am sure Catherine checks in with them via ipad after-school everyday. Also kids don't need to be exposed to abdominal drains and pipes and catheters and blinking blood pressure monitors. I never let my young children watch things like Greys Anatomy. To me the content is too scary. As far as we know these children have not been hospitalized ever, for things like tonsilectomies etc. So the last thing you want to do is frighten them at such a young age, when they one day need to get tonsils out.

Protecting their children i think should be their choice. Face time protects them from the scaryness of hospital.

I will do another reading on Catherine in general terms not card by card. Let's remember she is only technically due out around tomorrow. I suspect that when she does leave hospital it will be late at night or in the very early hours to avoid traffic and pictures. So no one should expect pictures. I think once she is settled at home we will get a KP announcement well after the fact.

The Kardashians have been trying to get in with the royal family for awhile. Back in 2011 - 2014ish, Kim kept trying to make friends with Kate. Everything from creating and posting ‘Happy birthday Kate’ video messages on social media, giving interviews about how much she loves Kate’s style, naming products after Kate, sending Kate gifts (which KP always returned unopened), matchmaking Prince George and North West together (here’s an example), and paying for a lot of PR on the one time Kate wore the same dress Kim did in 2012 and again in 2015 when Kate rewore it.

As far as we know, Kate never reciprocated or acknowledged Kim Kardashian’s efforts. And for all intent and purpose, Kim gave up on trying to make fetch happen with the royal family. But then Meghan came around, who’s much more Kardashian-like than Middleton-like or Windsor-like that made Kim’s royal aspirations more of a reality.

One of the things I’ve noticed about the Kardashians - Kim more particularly than the rest of them - is that they’re always looking for the next thing that will further legitimize their fame and further solidify their status as “real” A-listers instead of grifters that know how to hustle (remember, the family is only famous because they monetized Kim’s sex tape). Up until Kim married Kanye, no one really took them seriously; they were reality TV stars and WAGs. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But they’ve always wanted more and they’ve always used other people to climb up the fame ladder, legitimize their fame, and develop business opportunities.

Which is what Meghan (and Harry) are. They’re a business opportunity for the Kardashians, who’ve been slowly pivoting to more “behind the scenes” producer-type work than “on-camera” talent. They probably see Meghan as an opportunity to do more directing/producing/developing but the joke will probably be on them - they’re too business-savvy (individually and collectively) for Meghan. Meghan thinks she’s business-savvy like they are but she doesn’t come anywhere close. The primary difference between the Kardashians and Meghan is that they have follow-through, and she does not.

I don’t see the partnership lasting very long. Kris only works with people she knows and people who’ll listen to her/do what she wants. The way I see it, the Sussexes have been lovebombing the Kardashians to become family friends so that Kris will work with them. But that still leaves the “listen to/do what other people say” problem, which is probably going to be Meghan’s downfall. She thinks she’s the expert in everything, which will 100% cause problems with Kris.

And then there’s the WME of it. The Kardashians are WME clients (just like Meghan...hey, how about that?!). WME helped Kim get a role in the American Horror Story franchise. The Kardashians could also be friendly with the Sussexes because WME is making it worth their while.

Has Kate Middleton united America? For the past few days, we have been one nation under her spell.

The Princess of Wales has dominated Google searches in the United States ever since Kensington Palace released that now-notorious doctored photo of her with her children for Mother’s Day.

Her name search beat that of both ‘Donald Trump’ and ‘Joe Biden’ over the past week.

To say she has broken the internet would be only the start of it: rumours of her well-being are making their way into every newsroom, dive bar, and church fellowship hour across America.

My friends from all over the country text and call me to ask the same question: What’s happened to Kate?

They know I’m as removed from the royal family as anyone could be, but I’m in London and I work in Westminster, so they hope I’ve heard a theory that hasn’t made its way across the pond just yet.

Left-liberal pals who usually text me when Trump says something obscene now want to know when I last walked by Buckingham Palace.

Did anything seem strange? More right-leaning friends, who tend to send videos of Biden jumbling his words, want to know if it’s unusual in Britain to not wear your wedding ring.

Or did someone photoshop her ring out of the Mother’s Day photo, too? Is that even her hand in the picture?

I wonder if Kate knows she has achieved the impossible in bringing America together in this way.

I suppose that depends on where she’s been, how she’s been faring, and how much she’s checking the news – all questions that largely remain unanswered.

Either way, it’s an impressive feat and a wonderful service she has performed.

Sure, it would be nice if existential threats to the United States and its citizens were cause enough for us to find common ground. But I’m not going to be picky.

I will forever be grateful for this smidgen of evidence that, if the cause is compelling enough, America can pull itself back from the brink.

How did ‘Kate-gate’ go viral in a nation that isn’t even her own? The princess’s prolonged absence from public life has the right components to capture America’s imagination.

We are a country obsessed with The Crown and true crime. Since we rejected the British monarchy almost 250 years ago, we have rarely had the opportunity to combine the two.

The mystery of Kate’s movements and the online sleuthing required to discredit that photograph proved to be a golden moment.

But it’s the cover-up elements, which made the story stratospheric.

Like everything else in the States, conspiracy theories tend to be big – the more far-fetched, the more viral they go.

Trumpist QAnon talk has never appealed to non-partisan Instagram girlies, but speculation around a princess’s whereabouts make for perfect 20-part video series to add to your highlights reel.

That’s because Kate-gate is not your traditional conspiracy fare.

The big questions – what’s happened to Kate, where has she been – have not been whipped up from nothing.

Suspicion has been fed by a number of public-relations mishandlings from the Palace.

Stories have changed, a photo has been botched and is still being censored on social media.

This is particularly strange given the normal PR slickness of the Firm: a protective, ruthless operation that presidents and popstars envy.

Some of the rumours have taken absurd and dangerous turns. But it’s not only fantasists who have questions. Something seems to be happening; we just don’t know what.

We may never find out what Kate has been up to these past months. And perhaps we shouldn’t. Her medical issues aren’t our business, after all.

But we know what’s happened to her in the eyes of the public: Brand Kate has skyrocketed.

She and her family have become even more intriguing – the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Instagram and X accounts gained more than 200,000 followers combined in the days after the doctored photo was posted.

That intrigue has made the princess all the more sensational.

Kate is now a mega-celebrity. She has the kind of fame her sister-in-law craves so badly.

Markle’s tactic was to shout from the rooftops: to make herself and her point of view heard through every media platform and streaming service that showed any interest. It worked for a while.

Had a pandemic not scuppered her big moment, ‘Megxit’ would have been the story of 2020.

She and Harry still got to sit down with Oprah. Netflix charted their journey from the Palace to the Hollywood Hills. But attention quickly waned.

This week, the duchess finds herself doing what every fame-hustler must do in the fight for survival: launching a lifestyle brand.

Her Californian-inspired venture, called American Riviera Orchard, will be offering us fashion advice and gardening tips, along with another outlet selling artisan jams and yoga gear.

Yet as she pushes the cutlery and cookbooks, it’s absent Kate whose face is projected all over the world: a testament, if there ever was one, to the power of silence.

Given the long line of mess-ups from the Palace, this boost for Kate is a fairly good outcome.

The princess disappeared for a few months, and the world made its message clear: we simply can’t bear to be without her.

When she returns to public life, she will be more adored and loved than ever.

The rumours and theories will die down. The outpouring of support for the Princess of Wales will continue.

It seems likely that she will, as promised, resume public duty in the spring.

The future queen of England will return, radiant as ever, to stand next to her future king and her family, as if nothing ever happened.

We’ll watch on, always with the niggling feeling that there was something we weren’t told and that not knowing is the key to the charm.

Something like this was always coming down the pipeline. Whatever the reason Middleton’s disappearance from public life eventually turned out to be, it was never going to be something fun. And now we know the precise shape of that darker reality. This video was followed by commentary from journalists and online mouthpieces that anybody who speculated about her whereabouts ought to be ashamed of themselves. Helen Lewis wrote a piece for the Atlantic headlined “I Hope You All Feel Terrible Now.” But it’s not guilt the public ought to be feeling. It’s a more wide-ranging kind of disgust about monarchy in general. I don’t blame Middleton for any of this. She knew what she was signing up for in joining the royal family, sure, but I think it’s right and human to feel sorry for a mother of young children who has received a cancer diagnosis. That said, turning the blame on the public at large is disingenuous. Yes, the speculation online has been insane. People undoubtedly took it too far, with the TikTok sleuthing, the prurience with which many engaged in conspiracy theories about where she had gone. The jokes look in very poor taste now. But it didn’t have to be like this. The manner in which the palace went about handling this situation produced that situation. We’re in the odd but useful position of being able to compare what happened with Kate Middleton’s cancer directly with the cancer of another royal at the same moment, King Charles. There, the palace announced enough information to keep nosy hordes at bay, and they did it promptly. What the palace apparently decided to do here was to allow speculation to reach fever pitch over a period of weeks, release an obviously doctored photo of Middleton, blame her for the editing job, approve a grainy piece of bystander footage of her leaving a farm shop, and patch all of this up by trotting out a woman fighting cancer to sit alone on a bench and tell us, in the kindest words they could write for her, to leave her alone. So, a big part of why this feels bad is that massive public relations failure by the palace. But it is also, to a large degree, an inevitable consequence of the fact of whom the royals position themselves to be, and the friction produced by their status in Britain. It’s important to remember that Middleton is not a celebrity in any normal sense. The Kardashians, people of perhaps equivalent fame, do not owe anybody any information about themselves, although they choose to give out a lot of it. But the royals do owe the public, in order to justify their existence. Middleton is a person whom the palace deemed it appropriate to parade out in front of the world media just hours after giving birth to each of her children, hair done, makeup applied. A person whose job, that which she earns taxpayer money for, is to appear in public: to shake hands, to be photographed, to grace schools and businesses with her presence. And she has to do this in strict accordance with the palace’s idea of what a princess ought to be. Polite, modestly dressed, humble, uncomplaining, smoothed of any rough edges that might constitute a personality. The idea that a person like that could just disappear, and people wouldn’t wonder where she was, is ludicrous. The royal family turns its members into figures who exist purely as spectacle, as glossy, likable ciphers for monarchical power. They have taught the public that they exist for us to see. That’s a hard lesson for people to unlearn.
