If possible, could you point me the direction of a good place to start to learn more?

The knowledge base I'm working from is that regularly read the bible in class in elementary and middle school because I went to a Christian school (non-denominational, majority black, not Catholic) and while they wouldn't hesitate to confiscate Junie B. Jones or Ramona and Beezus if I read it in class instead of paying attention, if they caugh me reading through 2 Samuel, they were much more hesitatant to confiscate my reading material.
