baby steps (bughead 6x12 au)

based in that depressing scene, because let's face it if this would've happened while bughead were together things would've been different

...

This wasn't how she thought her day was gonna end.

She was supposed to come back from work meet with Jughead at Pop’s, have dinner and go back either to his place, Archie's garage most specifically, or hers, her childhood bedroom at her mother's house, and cuddle until they fall asleep.

But plans changed, Jughead had a lot of papers to grade and the next issue of the paper to finish editing, so he probably will be working until midnight, and she didn't want to bother him.

Due her night plans being canceled she decided to take a shower maybe eat some leftover pie her mom left on the fridge and go through some papers she brought form work.

After showering and spending a good amount of time under the warm water to relax her body she put her underwear and fluffy robe on and before turning towards the door to go back to her room something caught her attention.

There was an unopened Tampax box on her cabinet, the thing is she didn't remember when was the last time she needed to use those.

Trying to not freak out she checked her period calendar on her phone to confirm something she wasn't expecting.

She was two weeks late. She was never late.

She froze for a second and tried to remember if there was a chance she could possibly be pregnant. After all she was off the pill since being captive by TBK , something her doctor recomended, but as far as she remembers Jughead and her have been extra careful since they got back together.

And then it clicked that it was that one time she knew for a fact they didn't use protection. She assumed that reckless night was the reason why she is two weeks late now.

Not wanting to bother Jughead she tried to sleep and worry about this tomorrow but, after half an hour staring at the white ceiling she decided to text him and see if he was awake. It wasn't too late, after all it was only 1am.

He responded immediately, inviting her over so they could cuddle until they fall asleep.

She just pull on her robe, left a note to her mom and walked next door. It wasn't necessary to knock on the door because he was already waiting for her outside.

"Hey you" he huged tightly, when she stared up at him he grabbed her cheeks and pressed his lips against hers.

"Hey" she said smiling after the kiss.

Once they were cuddling in bed, both of their robes hanging on a chair besides his bed, he broke the silence.

"What's on your mind that you couldn't sleep?" He asked, his hands caressing her right arm that was wrapped around him, her head resting peacefully on his chest.

She took few seconds before responding, she wasn't sure if she should tell him her latest discovery or just take a test and make sure to not freak him out, but she wasn't going to sleep anytime soon if she didn't tell him, it was eating her alive, so she untangled from his warm embrace and sat on the bed, facing him.

"Jug, my period it's two weeks late, and I'm never late... there's a chance I... might be... pregnant" he definitely wasn’t expecting that.

"Is it possible even though we used protection all times?" she knew he was struggling to find the right thing to say.

"Yeah, because there was that one time we didn't... remember... at the former blue and gold office?" she tried to remind him about that reckless time that could be the reason their lives were about ro change forever.

"Oh... right" he remembered "How do you feel about it?

"I don't know" she said honestly "I'm terrified, anxious but also confused, this never came into my mind until now, and I can't decide if this is something I want or not, you know?" She tried not to sound too harsh, after all If she was pregnant the baby would be his.

"It's okay, everything will be okay no matter what happens" he said pulling her closer to him, she could tell he was as nervous and terrified as her but tried to not show it to comfort her. "I'm gonna be there with you and we'll figure this out together okay?"

She nodded, small tears were falling from her eyes. He hugged her tightly and caressed her hair until she fell asleep.

She took a test the next day. They waited nervously the results walking around her room. When the timer rang they went into the bathroom and stared at the test together. Only one pink line was visible. It was negative.

She huged him tightly, relieved.

Both agreed it wasn't the time for a baby, they weren't ready for that yet. However this was the perfect opportunity for her to ask him something she had been thinking for a little while now.

"Jug?" She caught his attention, they were cuddling on her bed, trying to get some rest, the truth is none of them had a good night sleep, thinking about the possibility of how to fit an infant into their messy lifestyle.

"How do you feel about moving together?"

This was the first step.

1 - Did you have a theme in mind when you designed them? What was it?

So, for Tabitha, I wanted her to basically be the girl next door type of character. Just this kind hearted, near sickening sweet person that is practically impossible to hate.

My vision for Euric was this angsty, rage-filled man like 'nobody understands me' Jughead Jones type. He's more dimensional than it but that is definitely the basis of his character.

D was just hot, flirty, lowkey creepy character that you're both terrified by and attracted to. Mission accomplished apparently.

L was the classical best friend to lovers to type. Like the person who loves and adores you and is always there for you through thick and thin.

And the basis for A was essentially the broody, mysterious character that most people are afraid of but they have a heart of gold and are literally the nicest person ever when you get to know them.

if those are my crumbs, i will happily have my hand out for them.

i’m sure some people don’t think she should think he didn’t want to talk to her because of their talk on that walk in 5x05 (i think it was 5x05) but aside from that one sentence, he’s not reached out to her so his actions didn’t match his words there. which is fine, they’re gaining ground now. and to be fair, i think people forget that it takes a lot of positive stuff to drown out even a small amount of the bad so betty might have heard him say he didn’t mean the voicemail to come across like that (and she might think he’s just being polite—we don’t know what he said yet) but she definitely remembers the way it made her feel.

romeo alvara was born as seong jae ( surname, given name ) to a young mother who could not afford to have children and an unknown father, the woman’s only choice was to give her baby boy up for adoption. he was officially adopted by an american family when he was two years old, after having been in the process of adoption approval for the past year, and brought to america not knowing a word of english.

his adoptive parents tried for years and years to have a child of their own, they saw multiple doctors who told them a pregnancy was unlikely but they could still try. they were completely unsuccessful in the long run so it seemed that adoption was their only option. they’d tried in the united states to find a younger child that they just clicked with but were also unsuccessful, they were either too rowdy or misbehaved too much for their liking. so they turned to toddlers and babies, a social worker had suggested they could adopt from out of the country and that was ultimately the route they took. upon first meeting romeo, the two instantly fell in love with him and knew he was their son. the next year was full of paperwork and multiple trips back and forth between oregon and south korea until everything was finalized and they were able to take their baby home.

upon his adoption finalization, he was renamed, given the name romeo. he’d already begun learning korean so his new parents had begun teaching him english as well as hiring someone who knew korean to also teach him his native tongue so he could still maintain a sense of his native culture. for the next year, the three of them spent their time learning and getting to know each other. it was nice to have a family, romeo was quick to start calling his new parents mom and dad. he liked that it was just the three of them. but then a miracle happened, his mom had gotten pregnant. nine months later, she popped out a beautiful baby bay named theodore.

even though he was just three, nearly four, years old when his younger brother was born, his entire life seemed to be upheaved. all of the attention that was once on him was now on his brother and romeo did not like that one bit. instead of playing with him at the park like his parents would do pretty regularly, they’d be seated nearby with the baby giving him tummy time all while romeo was left to his own vices. television time was no longer his once theo grasped the idea of paying attention. instead of watching his big kid shows, his parents put on baby shows like sesame street and barney to keep baby theodore occupied. romeo wasn’t allowed to get a new toy when they went shopping but theo got to keep anything his little hands could hold. it didn’t take long for romeo to grow to resent his brother and it only seemed to get worse as time went on.

romeo felt like he was always competing with his brother for their parents’ attention. any of the major accomplishments that romeo had made never seemed to compare to the minor accomplishments theo had made. because of his hatred for his little brother, romeo absolutely hates talking about theo. they barely talk, not unless it’s about their parents or holiday visits. he changes the subject whenever someone brings his family up, even if it’s just about his parents. sometimes he feels like his parents would have given him up if they could when he was a kid which is an awful thing to think but with how his childhood had gone, romeo can’t help have such thoughts.

things to know.

okay so he’s not violent but he will threaten to punch your or kick the shit out of you if you annoy him which is honestly totally crazy because he just looks like this cute, soft, cuddly boy who wouldn’t hurt a fly and honestly, that’s basically true. he’s all bark and no bite. violence as his vice is him taking out his anger with punching bags. the only time romeo is a dick is when jealousy is involved, he just+ gets super competitive.

he’s got a thing for small girls because they make him feel taller and more... masculine. mans got some big hands, he loves holding hands, too.

romeo is almost always eating, he absolutely loves food and will say yes to getting food even if it means that he’s paying whenever somebody asks. the best way to his heart is giving him food, props if it was something you made yourself.

he loves attention but not when it’s in front of huge crowds, he gets kind of shy if tons of people are around. but when it’s a one-on-one situation, he eats the attention up.

So to quote myself I said about Veronica:

And this morning I think I figured it out.

Veronica is a smart kid who has been burdened with parenting her parents. In order to make this ok with herself, she takes in wounded birds and tries to parent her friends, but it's essential that the wounds her 'children' suffer from doesn't overlap with her own.

Archie's problem is that he is proactive without being strategic or particularly bright. He literally is the type to run into a fire because he is there and there's a fire and what else can a person possibly do?!? Veronica is expert at managing the consequences of impulsive bad decisions. She can help with that!

Betty has been raised to doubt and hate herself and is squashed by her overbearing mother, who is bad at parenting but at minimum doesn't need Betty to be the adult. Veronica can help with that! She has lots of ideas on how ro be a good mom! Mommy V wants to get Baby B all the nice things she wants- a cheerleading spot, patching things up with Archie, a surrogate sister...

Cheryl is another wounded bird who was the Less Valued Child. Veronica can help with that! This is not a problem Veronica has (and when Hiram tries it using Hermosa she busts that apart in a minute). She knows her value and she feels super powerful because she is in loco parentis to her own damn parents. So Veronica indulges Cheryl's tantrums and coddles her during emotional meltdowns.

The one person Veronica doesn't feel the urge to parent is Jughead and this is because he has exactly her problems, but with poverty added to the burden.

Criminal dad, in and out of prison✅

Spineless mom, who drags her kid into dubious enterprises AND burdens a child with managing the criminal father ✅

Threat of paternal violence ✅

Jughead has parental relationship with his younger sibling, where he casts himself as the warmly affectionate and forgiving parent he never had.

Jughead and Veronica are mirrors images of each other and therefore repel each other. They otherwise should be besties because of all that they have in common: bookworms, classic film enthusiasts, pretentious reference droppers, busybodies, opinionated and given to speechifying. They are both clever children with a persuasive schtick (Ms Type A Dominant Fixer/ Outsider Philospher King).

The two of them see right through each other in a second so they stay away in an act of self protection. Further, Jughead has a simmering resentment of how Veronica's wealth cushions her from the worst of what he has to try to navigate.

And finally, this explains why Veronica is reluctant to have children of her own. She's just so tired.

I need some serious help, y’all. I have so many ideas rumbling around up here, but have no clue what to write next. So tell me what’s up!

1. I Deal in Ice 2 - probably somewhere between 5-8 chapters about Betty and Jughead’s life after the events of I Deal in Ice.

2. The Perfect Mistake - takes Adderall to help her focus on her homework, buys it illegally. One day, her regular dealer is replaced by Serpent King!Jughead Jones. They help each other battle their demons. Probably 5ish chapters.

3. Stolen - Betty is dating the wrong guy, or so Jughead Jones thinks. With the help of his best friend, Archie Andrews, they make a plan to steal her from her abusive boyfriend. Probably around 10 chapters.

4. The Way Back - A sequel to Unhinged. A 12-part series depicting the road to recovery for Betty Cooper, heavily featuring bughead sweetness.

5. A Million Burning Stars - An angsty post-ROS reylo fix-it fic. (i love reylo and have always wanted to dabble in this fandom). Around ten chapters.

6. Helianthus - Sunflower Moments, but from Betty’s perspective.

The new girl sweet pea - part 5

The next morning

As you walked downstairs smelling some pancakes you smiled softly and headed into the kitchen seeing Archie making some pancakes. “MOMMY!,” Devitt squeals running up to you as you smiled picking him up kissing his cheek. “Goodmorng bubs.” You smiled holding him as you sit down on the chair putting Devitt on your lap.

“Good morning Arch, I’m sorry for coming hom..” As Archie chuckles “Y/n it’s alright you haven’t been on a date in a while you deserved it, plus is it alright with you if Jug, Ronnie, and Betty come by for breakfast?” Arch asked setting the last couple of pancakes down on the table. “Oh, that’s totally fine with me.” you smiled ruffling Devitt’s hair. “So, If you don’t mind me asking how did the date with Sweet pea go?” Archie asked as I blushed.

“It was amazing, I told him what happened between Devitt’s father and I and the real reason why I moved to Riverdale and that he can’t wait to have a second date with me.” You smiled as Devitt plays with my fingers and smiles. “You never told us about the real reason why you moved to Riverdale,” Archie said sitting down.

Hours later

“So that’s is the reason why you moved here, is to protect your son,” Ronnie said as you nodded at her. “So Y/n does he like dipping his fries in milkshakes like you and me?” Jughead asked as you shrugged. “I’m not sure, I never really tried if I’m being honest with you,” You answered as Jughead picks him up and holds him “Hey buddy what’s your name?” Jughead asked looking at Devitt as Devitt smiles. “I’m Devitt, I’m 3″ he responds and points at his beanie. “Devitt, it’s not nic..” “It’s fine Yn, you like my beanie.” Jug cooed at Devitt as he smiles and nods while Jughead takes off his beanie and puts it on his head and Devitt gasped looking at you. “Oh my lord you look like your father,” I said as Deviit claps his hands.

“So, what is the plan for today?” Betty asked smiling holding Devitt as Devitt plays with her fingers. “We can go to sweet water rivers and go swimming and then we can go to pops and eat and then have a movie night,” Ronnie suggested. “Oh, that sounds amazing, bubs do you wanna go swimming?” I asked as Devitt nods. “Sweet swimming it is,” Archie responded taking Ronnie’s hand.

- at the river-

“JUGHEAD!, careful he..” “It’s fine Y/n I got him don’t worry plus, Betty knows when enough is enough,” Jughead responded holding onto Devitt as he splashes the water. “Alright Jones she’s just worried about him she doesn’t really go out much give her a break!” Pea shouts as you look up at him. “Pea? what are you doing here?” you asked smiling as he smiles back. “Hey, beautiful and Ronnie invited me so you wouldn’t be alone.” He responded smiling as you looked at Veronica as she winks at you then jumping into the water followed by Archie and Betty.

“Thank you for coming, after this, we are going to pops after this and from pops back to Archies place to watch some movies if you would like to come,” you smiled up at him watching Jughead and the gang play with Devitt in the water. “Of course especially if I get to spend more time with you and Devitt.” Pea smiled wrapping his arm around your waist and pulls you closer as you smiled kisses his cheek “you are so cute Pea you know that.” you smiled as he leans in to kiss you as you kissed back but pulled away quickly when you hear Devitt scream in pain as you got up and up to Jughead and takes Devitt. “what happened?!” you asked worriedly checking Devitt to make sure he has no cuts or bruises as Pea runs up behind you and checks Devitt also.

“Y/n relax he just hit his head against the ro..” Arche tried to explain as you glared at him.” RELAX, Arch you should never tell a mo..” “babe shh it’s okay breathe, look he has a small cut on his temple.” Sweet pea responded and went to his bike to get some bandaids and something to clean it I sighed. “Sorry, mother instincts .” you sighed holding Devitt as he sucks his thumb. “it’s fine Y/n I’d be the same way if this was my son or daughter.” Arch responded, “were going to have fun for a bit longer then we will head out to pops if that’s fine with you Y/n.” Ronnie asked as I nodded.

“Yeah, go have some fun I’ll have Devitt with Pea and me.” You answered walking back to the towel you were sitting on and set Devitt on your lap as he cuddles into you as Archie, Jug, Betty, and Ronnie jumped back into the water. as Pea sat down next to you and handed you the bandaid as you shake your head “Thanks Pea but he doesn’t need it it’s a small cut it will heal.” You smiled softly as he nods.

“Y/n, can I hold Devitt? it’s okay if you say no.” pea asked as you looked at Devitt giving him the look if it’s okay with him as he nods softly reaching for pea as you handed Devitt to Pea. “Do you see Pea as a good father figure for Devitt Juggie?” Betty asked glancing at Jughead then back at you, Sweet pea and Devitt as Jughead chuckles. “I believe he will I see the way Sweet pea face lights up when Y/n and Devitt are mentioned around him.” Jug smiled taking Betty’s hand and spinning her around.

“He likes you.” You smiled as Devitt plays with Pea’s hair as Pea smiles. “You think so?” Pea asked as you noded. “Mommy?” Devitt said looking at you as you looked at him softly. “Yes, bubs?” you smiled at him. “Is he going to be with us forever, and be my new daddy?” He asked as Sweet Pea's eyes widen at the Daddy part. “That’s up for him to decided maybe if you ask him he’ll give you an answer but I’d love for him to stay.” you smiled as Devitt turned around looking at Sweet Pea. “will you please stay and be my new Daddy, you promised you won’t hurt my mommy,” Devitt said as Pea smiled. “I did promise that didn’t I bubs,” he said as Devitt nods. “Of course, I’ll be your dad will mommy let me move in is the questioned” Pea responded as Devitt gave you the puppy eyes. “oh how can I say no to that face,” you thought as you thought about it for a couple of minutes you nodded and smiled. “Yes, he can move in,” you answered as Devitt squeals.

“Alright, who’s hungry because we are.” jughead asked walking up holding betty’s hand as Ronnie and Archie followed behind. “we are,” you answered getting up along with Pea as he held on to Devitt. “Alright let's get going to pops than to Archiekins house for movie night” Ronnie smiled as the gang got everything ready to leave.

- At pops-

“Hey, Devitt tries this,” Jughead said handing Devitt a fries dipped with chocolate from his shake as Devitt takes it and eats it. “Ju..,” you started but Devitt smiled widely. “Mommy, may I have another one,” Devitt asked as you sighed but smiled and handed Devitt another one as he eats it. “He’s going to be hyper when we get to Archie’s house.” Ronnie laughed as I sighed rubbing my face. “Yes, but yall don’t have to watch him I do,” you said as Pea rubbed your arm and kissed your temple. “hey you have me now babe.” Pea smiled as he held Devitt. “At least we know that he likes it.” Archie laughed as Ronnie rested her head on Archy's shoulder and Betty wraps her arms around Jug's arm.

- At Archie’s house-

Everyone was enjoying the movie as soon as the movie was over Devitt and Y/n ended up falling asleep then soon after Archie and Ronnie fell asleep on the other couch, Betty ended up falling asleep cuddled up to Jughead. “Now, there are two.” Sweet pea said turning off the movie “So, Pea how does it feel now that you are going to be a step..” “hey don’t say that I will raise Devitt like he’s my own it doesn’t change the way I feel about Y/n I know that I will do whatever it takes to protect her, I’d don’t know what I will do if I haven’t ran into Y/n that day ever since I met both of them my life has changed in a good way though you know how it’s my duty to protect both of them.” He said as Jug nodded “I’m glad you are now in love I never have seen you like this in a long time.” He said taking off his beanie and pulling Betty closer and closing his eyes

“I’d do anything to keep both of you safe and I’ll make sure that if anyone hurts either one of yall I’ll kick their asses, goodnight princess.” He said softly and kisses you a temple and ruffles Devitts hair pulling you closer to him and falling asleep.

(that’s the ending of part 5 I really hoped yall like it I took a while to come up with more things to make this longer then repeating most of these things let me know what yall think. I wonder what's going to happen in the next part)

A/N: Hi everyone! I hoped you like this chapter. I'm so incredibly happy with the positive feedback I've gotten from the story so far! Thank you so much! ♡

“You’re late!” Midge exclaimed playfully as Rory approached the booth where she sat in the relatively empty Chock’lit Shoppe. Rory laughed, mumbling a brief apology before sliding into the booth. Midge already had a milkshake of Rory’s flavor choice waiting for her. She immediately took a sip, relishing in the cold, creamy strawberry deliciousness. Midge smiled at her briefly before it faded into a frown.

“What’s wrong?” Rory asked, growing concerned. Midge’s eyes scanned Pop’s to make sure there was no one eavesdropping before sighing.

“I just don’t know what to do about Moose,” she put her chin in her hand and stirred her milkshake absentmindedly. “I love him, but something is just… off. But with Fangs… Oh, Rory, with Fangs it feels so right. The passion. The spark. The hunger –”

“Okay, I don’t need to know that part!” Rory laughed before reaching across the table to grab her hand. Midge smiled before it quickly faded away again. “Do you love Fangs?”

“No, I don’t think so. But he gives me something that Moose just… doesn’t. Even before, when things were good, it just felt odd. Awkward. Clunky,” she shrugged and shook her head. “What do I do?”

“I think you need to be honest with Moose. It isn’t fair to keep lying to him, especially when he’s being faithful to you. You guys need to talk about it.” Rory squeezed her hand sympathetically.

“Yeah, you’re right… as always,” She rolled her eyes and sniffled. Rory grinned and looked down into her milkshake and took another sip. “Do you think I’m a sinner?”

“A sinner?” Rory snorted, almost spitting her milkshake back down into the cup. “What the hell are you talking –” She looked up to meet Midge’s eyes. She was cut off by her own blood-curdling scream. Her best friend’s cold, dead eyes emptily stared back at her. Blood and decay covered her face and body. Five knives were plunged into her torso, and two pairs of scissors pinned her arms in a “T” into the back of the booth.

“I am back from the dead,” Midge’s corpse hissed monotonously. “All those who escaped me before will die.”

Rory sprang up from the bed in strained sobs, screaming from the flashes in her head. Jughead burst through the door with his switchblade flicked out, his hair disheveled and one eye half-closed. Once he saw that there was no physical threat, he put the knife away. FP pushed past him and held his niece tightly to his chest, stroking her hair in attempt to calm her. Jughead sat on the end of the bed. She had stopped screaming, but the sobs carried on. She thought of the couple of nights that this occurred when her mother was alive, before her death. How her mother would climb into bed with her and stay with her the rest of the night. But she was gone too. And she wouldn’t have even been gone if Midge weren’t gone in the first place. She sobbed harder. After a while, FP convinced Rory to lay back down. He moved to the chair in the corner of the small room and nodded for Jughead to leave before laying his head back. He stayed there for the rest of the night.

In the morning, Rory rubbed her swollen eyes and headed down the hall toward the kitchen. Living with Jughead and FP was… different for Rory. When she arrived, it was clear that the trailer was in a state of constant disarray from the busy lives of the two men that lived there, but Rory had started to clean things up to keep herself busy when she wasn’t at school. It had been a few months since she started living there, but the nightmares hadn’t gone away. It was always the same dream over and over, an “alternate” ending to the very real last conversation she and her best friend had before the musical that fateful night.

“Hey sugar,” Gladys chirped. Rory smiled faintly at her formerly estranged aunt and mumbled a “good morning.” “How’d you sleep?”

“Like a baby.” Rory smirked bitterly. She knew she had heard her screaming last night. If both FP and Jughead heard her, there was no way that Gladys and Jellybean hadn’t. They hadn’t even been back in town for long and Rory was already done with the whole situation. Something felt wrong about her presence. Plus, she and Rory’s mom had never gotten along, so Gladys had almost the same passive-aggressive attitude toward her most of the time.

“Good,” Gladys smiled, taking a sip of her black coffee. “FP is out back. He has something to show you.” Rory gave a tight-lipped nod in response and exited the trailer. It was a bit nippy outside, and she was only wearing a cotton tee and some pajama pants. She crossed her arms over her chest. She heard some banging noises from behind the trailer so she followed them. FP stood among a medium sized Airstream camper trailer with the doors and windows wide open, and a few packed boxes sprawled around on the ground outside of it.

“What’s all of this?” Rory spoke up, as FP hadn’t noticed her standing there. He looked up and beamed at her, immediately walking in her direction.

“Hey squirt, how are you feeling this morning?” He asked, pulling her into his side and giving her a chaste kiss on the forehead.

“I’m okay,” she smiled up at her uncle. “How’s your back?” She asked sheepishly.

“Oh, don’t worry about me. Me and that chair are very well acquainted. Jellybean used to have nightmares when she was a little girl.” He reassured her. She suddenly felt very burdensome. She had been sleeping in Jellybean’s room since she moved in, but now that they were back in town, Jellybean had been sleeping on a cot in the living room.

“I think JB and I should switch living arrangements. It’s her room after all.” Rory insisted.

“That actually brings me to the reason I had you come out here,” FP grinned, pulling her with him toward the Airstream. “Your mom didn’t like living in the trailer with me and our old man when she was a teenager. ‘Hostile environment,’ and all that. I don’t blame her,” he sighed and absentmindedly rubbed his jaw thinking just how hostile that environment could be most of the time. He shook his head to get the memories out. “This was hers. I kept it when she left, just in case she ever wanted to come back… Now it’s yours.”

“Mine?” She blinked at him, dumbfounded. He gave a nod and motioned for her to go inside.

“Check it out. I got most of the boxes out, and we can take out anything else you want,” FP suggested as she looked around. She oddly felt like she was giving her mom a hug, just being inside the eclectic trailer. It was almost untouched by time, aside from all of the dust. It made her feel… Happy. She turned to her uncle and gave him a sudden, almost rib-crushing hug. He stumbled backward slightly and froze for a second before hugging her back. She mumbled a thank you into his chest. “You now have your own space. There’s a mini fridge that I had laying around, and the bathroom is back in the little ‘room’ behind the bed, but you’ll have to come inside for meals and showers, and to hang out with us, of course.” He chuckled.

“Thank you so much Uncle FP. I don’t know what to say.” Rory sniffed. He waved his hand to stop her from thanking him. Her phone buzzed in the pocket of her pajama pants. She rolled her eyes when she pulled it out and looked at the screen. Two texts from Peter to add to the however many unanswered previous messages. She hadn’t spoken to him in a few months, since her mom’s funeral.

“You should talk to him. He’s been coming around and asking for you,” FP sighed. Rory scoffed in return. “He lost her too.” She sighed and wiped a tear from her cheek, hesitating before finally texting him to meet her at Pop’s in an hour. FP rubbed her shoulder, then ducked out of the trailer. Not much time passed before Jughead appeared at the door and knocked on the frame before coming inside.

“Nice camper. Very… Bohemian.” Jughead chuckled, looking around the camper. He had never been in here before. In fact, the only knowledge he had of it before was that it was behind the trailer covered in tarps his whole life.

“Thanks,” Rory laughed, curling up into one of the two armchairs. “It’s all my mom’s stuff. I almost feel like I’m in a museum. I’m too afraid to touch anything because I might knock it over.” Jughead furrowed his brows and moved to sit in the chair adjacent to his cousin.

“You need to make it your own,” he began carefully. “This is your space. You live here now.” She nodded with a sigh and thanked him. He patted her shoulder in return.

When Rory walked into Pop’s, she could already see Peter waiting in a booth. She furrowed her brow and looked down at her phone at the time. She was early. He was even earlier. She frowned and started walking in his direction, and asked Pop Tate for her usual as she passed him at the counter. She suddenly came into contact with a body, which made her stumble backward, but the person didn’t budge at all.

“Watch where you’re going, princess.” Sweet Pea scoffed, pushing past her.

“Fuck off.” Rory spat as she rolled her eyes and flipped him off, anger bubbling in her chest. She took a deep breath before sliding into the seat across from her brother. He already had her milkshake waiting for her.

“You’re late.” He teased as he watched Sweet Pea exit the building with narrowed eyes.

“You’re late!” Midge exclaimed playfully.

Rory shook the flashback out of her head and pushed the milkshake away from her slightly. Peter frowned. “I’m early. You’re too early.” She retorted, crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back against the seat.

“How are you?” Peter asked timidly. Rory smiled bitterly.

“Peachy,” she laughed. She took a breath. He lost her too. “How are you?”

He shifted to gaze out the window. “Peachy.” They sat in silence for a moment. What am I doing? Rory thought to herself.

“Let’s talk about it.” Rory sighed, placing her folded hands on the table. He continued to stare out the window, but she saw a single tear slip down his cheek.

“It was my fault,” He rasped out before clearing his throat and wiping his face. “If I had just skipped the movie at the Bijou and went with her to the fucking store, none of this would have happened. I could have held them back. I could have pulled her out of the way of the crowd. She wouldn’t have tripped and wouldn’t have been… I could have just —” His voice broke as he choked out a silent sob. Rory furrowed her brow, shaking her head. Her heart felt like it broke all over again just watching the sight in front of her. She reached across the table to grab his hand and squeezed it.

Rory laughed before reaching across the table to grab her hand. Rory squeezed her hand sympathetically.

Rory gasped and jerked her hand back as if she’d been shocked. She shook the memory out again. It felt like her lungs had just collapsed and her heart rate was rising significantly. Peter quickly reached across to grab her hand before it got too far. He faced her now, looking her in the eyes.

“I’m so sorry, Aurora. I’m sorry that our mom is gone because of me, and I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you about dad. I have been so angry about it and had to keep it to myself, because we were ‘never supposed to know.’ I’ve been so hurt. You’re not the only one that was hurt by it! I am your biological twin brother. We are related. And I’m the one that’s stuck without you because ‘dad’ has legal custody over me. I’ve been drowning without you.” He sobbed quietly, making sure not to attract extra attention from the other patrons of the restaurant. Rory stared back at him, silent tears streaming down her face.

“It isn’t your fault. You’re okay.” She cooed as she squeezed his hand. A waitress came by and put food on the table in front of them. Peter quickly wiped his face and cleared his throat, but Rory didn’t even bother. Peter stared down into his food, absentmindedly playing with his scrambled eggs. It remained silent between them for a while until Rory lifted a piece of bacon and playfully tried to “force feed” it to him. He laughed and took the bacon from her hand.

“I missed you.” He smiled.

“I missed you, too, you freak of nature.”
